Canes climb back into Top 10

The Miami Hurricanes are officially back on the nation's college football map.

For the first time since 2005, UM climbed into the nation's Top 10 rankings Sunday when they leapfrogged 11 spots to No. 9. The Canes, 12-13 under coach Randy Shannon in his first two seasons, hadn't been ranked in the Top 10 since they went into the Peach Bowl ninth and then lost to LSU 40-3. The Canes climbed to as high as third that season before suffering the first of four losses to Georgia Tech.

But now, an impressive 33-17 Thursday night win over the Yellow Jackets on national TV has put the Canes (2-0) back on the national landscape and ahead of their next two opponents -- 11th-ranked Virginia Tech (2-1) and 10th-ranked Oklahoma (2-1).

UM is ranked 13th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll.

Top-ranked Florida remained the nation's consensus No. 1-ranked team in both polls.

Can we get an injury update please. Anyone???

...what does Florida have anything to do with UM after 2 wins and 10 remaining games? Can someone explain to me why a team in a separate conference we don't play this year is in this discussion?

I'm jacked over being 2-0. But again, restraint and common sense, people.

Well for one we have shifted the national discussion away from UF for a few weeks during their "Greatest Season Ever".

Two, we compete for the same recruits, thus it's nice to point out that they duck UM, and that they are inferior to UM.

Three, we HATE them, and it drives UF fans crazy when we compare UM to them!

Four, did I mention we REALLY HATE UF?

Go 'canes!

ItsaCanesthing, are you serious? a blackout? thats just stupid. it doesnt even make any sense. none of our colors are black. i dont even own a black shirt lol. if anything white out or green out.

maybe herbie loves us cause he feels bad knowing his buckeyes got away with murder in the 2002 NC. :)

canethang, couldnt agree more.

vt's offense doesent look like anything to be scared off... put pressure on tyrod and he stops going through his progressions sorta like..... brock, wright, freeman, oh yeah and marve... just cant let him scramble for 20 seconds behind the line of scrimmage...

and i think whiplash will do his thing on offense and put up 30+ on hokies...

Just curious...

Because there are gayturd fans in here constantly bashing the Canes.. kinda quiet now that Tenessee looked good against them. It'll be nice when they loose not to see them anymore. They play a team with an offense to go with a good defense and they are looking at a LOSS!!

You know what I like about being number 9. Now The Canes have to play like champions. They would not hang with Bama right now. I know the OU game will be a Gameday game. ESPN wanna preview that DEC 12th Documentary and they story building around Miami is getting stronger. You need stories like that. Most teams were scared to play Miami and was down 14 pts by the end of the first quarter. I always loved when UM was high cause teams give us their best game which brings out the best in our players. No time to shy away from greatness. You embrace whats happening. UF is feeling the heat believe me. Especially now when kids are saying hmm I wonder if Miami will accept my commitment Miami don't have many scollys left I bet they land a top ten class by choosing the best in state recruits left. Luc, Dunkley, Clements, Linder, L. Anderson are must gets to stay on top. We have the ability to compete in every game this year. Miami is one team I believe can handle the hype. FSU ain't so bad so Tebow and company better be wary of them. I know some think UF runnin but they can't run forever. The football Gods are setting up the greatest college football of the 00 decade...maybe ever. Jacory wanted to start last year and we see what momentum and following a qb can do(brady manning brees big ben...leaders). This year is setting up to be one of the best.

Harris will get injured and it will all crash down. He's frail. Your season will be Kaput.

keep U fingerz crozzed bltches....LMAO

Hey canes fan stuck in bama.. me too,i'm in mobile looking to start a canes club for game days where U located??

What game were you watching? Whipple built a force field around Harris! I counted a half dozen times where Harris could have pulled in the ball and taken off running, but why? There was a force field around his receivers as well!

UF on the other hand could not have won the game without Tebow throwing his body on the line like another log on the fire! You can spin it any way you want, but that hit with Bailey could have EASILY knocked him out of the game!

Go over to Gator Clause and read Jo's "Don't Panic", excuse laden article! I mean really! UF has played one game, and already UF is in crisis mode. Not a way to start "THE GREATEST RUN IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL HISTORY", now is it?

I guess Meyer is already talking about bringing Brantley in against KY, I assume in passing situations. That is a clear sign that Meyer is not impressed with the Mesiah's pocket presence.

I know you "D" Bag! You read EVERY word of this! You must be SEETHING that UM is getting so much press right now! You said 0-4 out the gate, remember? I hope you didn't put your money where your mouth is!

Go 'canes!

LOL F*ck the gaytor fans and there team!

i was talking trash to my friend saturday night about how terrible uf looks so far and there cream puff schedule, he got so angry he decided to give away a free $50.....he bet me UM would lose to VT and that aint happening.

i love free money, especially from idiot gaytor fans.

GO 'CANES!!!

WHAT!,

That's awesome!

If that was UF's "Bonzai" offense that they showed us on Saturday, then might I suggest, hari kari?

(This shyt just writes itself!)

Go 'canes!

UF is sick from all the cupcakes!!!
HAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA

I can't breathe!!! My chest is splitting!
AHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

You read every word of it "D" Bag!

We are only 2 games into the season and 2 games into a 4 game gauntlet. I am VERY excited about our immediate future and I am pleased with the attention/ranking. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. When I think about this whole thing I realize that many of us wondered, ESPECIALLY myself, if we would even BE in this position right now. I'm not trying to spoil the fun but let's go on ahead and see how our team and coaches perform now that they are appreciated and quite possibly EXPECTED to win. The Cane mystique has a large part to do with being under-appreciated and 'dissed.' Virginia Tech must be given the same respect as FSU and GT were given as far as preparation or else this is all for naught. Let's stay focused on VT. Let's all put our energy on VT.

Does anyone know when we will see Ray Ray play???

I havent been this excited in a long time about football at the U were back on the map!! We have to stay focused and take it one game at a time and focus on shuttin down Taylor if we do that game will be over they cant hang with our offense if jacory gets protection its simple play like we been playing we can beat any team in the country! we must fix special teams though that could easily lose us a game!! GO CANES!!

Does anyone know when we will see Ray Ray play???

Posted by: DaUisbackJH12 | September 21, 2009 at 05:32 PM

When he is ready! The kid is just a freshmen. Someone wrote that they saw him on special teams. I have not seen his stats, and I do not remember him doing anything remarkable at the game.

Go 'canes!

Ray Ray gonna be the next Sean Taylor saw him play in high school he is a ball hawk and a very good tackler!! him vaughn and Brandon harris are gonna make our secondary good for a long time!!

GO CANES!!!

LB, it's just that gator blowhards like to poop on everyone's party. They do that with all the teams they play, and the the U. They just can't stand the thought that we always hand gatorpoop to them on a platter when we play against them. It is obvious that the gator program is on the decline, UB's gonna dart for ND and they are going to return to their rightful place at the top of mediocrity (give 'em some credit!) Also the gator program is all about propping up teblow, you saw his rage at his team mates because he wanted to carry the ball in. He is in his 11th teat at the swamp. it seems.

go canes !

down w UF !

we're back on the map. back in the spotlight. we're #9 in the country. huge game this weekend against vtech. the expectations have soared. everyones patting them on the back.

the pressure's on.

and pressure can do one of two things to people. for the good, it helps them fold, but for the great, it helps them focus. how will this team respond?

will this be the miami of old? the miami with swagger? the miami that dominated great opponents? the miami that embraced greatness? or will this be a team that folds under pressure? we'll find out saturday, in blacksburg.

Who do we have to contact to blackout the stadium vs OU. ???? If it's a 8oclock game it's a must. Lol let's get the ball rolling.
Go canes.

Sagarin ratings: No BS, no bias, no love, no hate. Just pure numbers, sos, ws and Ls:

UM #1

LOL. Where is Kehoe now?

OPEN LETTER TO UM HURRICANE PLAYERS:

Men- The team has now cracked the top 10 for the first time since 2005. Many of you were still in high school. Some were just getting here, and the following 3 years, well, you more than anyone know how that's been.

YOu haven't won anything yet. Nothing. Zilch. NAda. Two superb TEAM wins were stepping stones and a showcase of what this team is capable of doing.

But you haven't won anything...yet.

You haven't won anything.

Don't rest on your laurels.

So keep working your tails off. Work like there is no tomorrow, because this short-lived success can dissappear in an instant: a missed field goal, a fumble, an int return, a missed tackle. Enter the next series of games with these thoughts in your minds: Destroy your opponent! Leave nothing on the field, Give no second chances, give no quarter, yield no ground, outwork, outmuscle, outhustle every single guy in front of you. Your predecesors in 2001 had that attitude. Ask Jon Vilma. Ask Ed Reed. For them it was all business. But they had a couple of hiccups during the season (Boston College and V Tech) that almost costthe best college football team of all time a shot to eternal glory. But that winning work ethic gave them the ship. At the end of the day, AJ, and Dorsey, and Clinton and Gonzalez' pictures still sit on the front of those magazines holding the crystal.

I still have those.

And that theam will forever be remembered.

ACC is a bunch of mediocore teams.

Once a team can put pressure on Jacory, that skinny legged QB will be throwing that ball up for grabs. Then Randy Shannon will be calling his 10th timeout of the half. Clueless man, just clueless.

How about a squib kick Randy??? BAWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHHA

Dude has no clue. None!

P.S. How is Marcus Forston doing??? That dude spends more time on his back than Taylor Rain. Dude is always on his back and getting hurt. WEAK!!!!

P.S. How about that 20 something ranked recruiting class WAAAaaandy is bringing in. That should really help especially in the coming weeks with all the NEXT YEAR talk.

P.S. Guess who is in the top 5 again in recruiting??? Yeah, you guessed it. Gators keep reloading while WAAAAaaaandy makes excUses.

Guys stop worrying about Florida. We dont play them. We play in the ACC. We have to worry about our own team and games and not some other team we dont play. This year isnt our year anyway, it is next year. Florida is good and give them credit but we are building for something in the future. I'm gonna go now and post on the GaY South Florida Blog.

Does anyone know if AJ will play this week??

Weak. Canes just want a circle love fest on their message board and not all opinions. Why not just have Manny post a thousand responses under different monikers? Ohhh wait.

Rayray's been playin a lot on special teams. he's always psyched up and talkin trash every chance he gets - definitely one of our most animated players. Often the first player off the sidelines to congratulate on a big play. he'll get his chance.

DB ready to pick UM over Gators

Matt Shodell

Gainesville (FL) High School DB Devont'a Davis was going back and forth between Miami and Florida as his leader recently.

And now Davis says he is back on the Hurricane bandwagon.

"Miami is No. 1 right now. In a week or two I might decide."

Davis is being recruited to Miami by coach Micheal Barrow.

"I've been talking to him - he just sees how I'm doing in school, things like that," Davis said. "We have a real good relationship."

Davis has two factors drawing him to Miami - his Godbrother, Kevin Nelson, is already committed. And he loves how the Canes are playing right now.

"I watched Miami's game against Georgia Tech - it was a very exciting game," Davis said. "I didn't think Miami was going to come out with a blowout. It was great."

He adds "That kind of thing helps with recruits. Just winning, I like to win, recruits like to see winning."

Of when he might make a commitment, Davis said, "I think I know where I want to go now, just have to check it out with my family, think about it."

So far this season Davis's team has as 2-1 record. In the most recent game, a 41-17 win, he had eight tackles and returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown.

Hiliary Duff called Jacory and asked for her legs back.

Frank Beamer: Early schedule benefits Hurricanes
by Jorge Milian

Much was made prior to the season regarding the difficulty of UM’s first four games. But the one built-in advantage to the early slate was the extra days the Hurricanes had to prepare for its game last week against Georgia Tech and Saturday’s showdown with Virginia Tech.

UM had nine days to get ready for the Yellow Jackets and the triple option. The results were obvious in last Thursday’s 33-17 victory at Land Shark Stadium.

The Hurricanes now have eight days to work on the No. 11 Hokies.

“I don’t think there’s any question that it helps you,” Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said on Monday. “I think if you have a couple days extra for an opponent, it gives you extra time to look at your game plan and check it out on the field and revise it if you need to.”

A couple other notes from Beamer and Virginia Tech:

…..The Hokies rank last in the ACC in rushing defense, allowing 200.3 yards per game. Each of Virginia Tech’s three opponents have had one player go over 100 yards rushing. “We’ve played some good folks and tackling more consistently is an issue,” Beamer said in explaining his team’s porous defense. “A couple of times we didn’t get in the right gap and didn’t get the right leverage. We have some young guys there that are learning quickly.”

….Only winless Virginia (13) has allowed more sacks through three games than Virginia Tech (12). “There’s no question we need to improve in that area,” Beamer said. “Sometimes it’s just been getting beat. Sometimes they’re bringing more than we can protect and you have one running free. It’s a little bit of their scheming and us not reacting. And sometimes it’s just physically getting beat. But it’s not all on the offensive line, that’s for sure.”

….UM quarterback Jacory Harris leads the ACC in passing average (328 yards), passing efficiency (184.1) and total offense (326.5 ypg). The sophomore was named the ACC’s Offensive Back of the Week on Monday for the second time in three weeks. “I think he’s got great pocket presence back there, he’s throwing the ball accurate, he doesn’t get rattled,” Beamer said. “He’s playing very, very well for Miami. When their quarterback is playing well…they’ve got a lot of talent around him and it’s showing up.”

….By the way, the ACC announced on Monday that UM’s game against Oklahoma on Oct. 3 will be played either at 3:30 or 8 p.m. A starting time will be announced no later than Sunday at noon.

Hey, you juvenile basta*d, why are you being an impostor? We know who Sarasota 'Cane is.

of course we do. He's the homosexually obsessed "mycanes" who spends a great part of his day talking about homosexual topics and gay bars.

Yes, we all KNOW who he is.

Thanks for having my back Turds Suck! Did I just give props to a guy named Turds Suck? Classic!

But hey I don't need it, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

The guy has no game! Everything I write is original, and most of it is funny. Those clowns have been using the same tired schtick since I started blogging at the Sentinel over 2 years ago! It's never funny, always bitter! I would hate to be that dudes dog/kids when his team(s) lose!

Shyt, the 'phins just lost!

Go 'canes!

UF is using swine flu as an excuse for the fact they s*ck. 2013 is right around the corner losers. We'll even let you play with Tebow...since he will be in the arena league. Keep calling out AJ Highsmith too...you just might get him one day.

Recruits that like to see winning are a bunch of jackasses. Players with true confidence are difference makers and don't care about what has happened before they join a team. Go to UF baby....it's the feeder school for the NFL 3rd string.

ABC are a bunch of jerks...who are they to tell us when we start the game. I'm getting my fatigues out of the closet this weekend.

marlininseattle:

I wouldn't want Tebow on my team because he would require a salary that is comensurate with his ability. The guy will not be a good NFL QB because he will have to learn the fundamentals like footwork.

I'm not a proponent of the spread offense for an NFL team and I want my fullback or TE or special teams guy to hit someone.

I especially don't want a bible thumper who's 'saving himself' to alienate the ballers in my lockeroom...or cry when we lose a meaningless game and promise to 'work harder'.

Nice college player, but schools is out when Ed Reed and Ray Lewis are out there trying to hurt you.

We look fast in person, but on TV we look even faster...

This dude does great highlights....btw.

brandon Washington, when it is all said and done, will be the best player to come out of UM since Warren Sapp. There, I said it.

Check out CAL leading the PAC-10. Sort of puts the last bowl game in perspective. Canes will be undefeated going into the ACC championship against the Noles.
