« Benjamin seeking consistency | Main | Morgan, Jackets are coming after Jacory »

Injury report: Van Dyke, Nicolas out

The Hurricanes released their injury report moments ago and it looks some sort of bug is going around.

> Probable: DE Eric Moncur (groin).
> Questionable: WR Aldarius Johnson (groin).
> Doubtful: OL Ben Jones (illness), RB Damien Berry (illness).
> Out: DE Adewale Ojomo (jaw), OL Cory White (lower extremity), LB Levi Paalua (upper extremity), DB DeMarcus Van Dyke (concussion), DB Jojo Nicolas (illness).

Here is some of what Randy Shannon was talking about after practice.

> Shannon said there was no way his team was able to fully simulate the speed of Georgia Tech's Triple Option offense and he expects his team to take awhile in adjusting to it Thursday. "It’s still a different speed when you get in the game," Shannon said. "You always try to catch up to it. It may take the first quarter, may take the first five minutes of the game to get accustomed to it. Once you get accustomed to it, you’re OK.

> Shannon said it's important for his team to get off to a fast start. "We need something to happen for us early. Maybe a big play defensively, maybe special teams and get the crowd into it and get the momentum going," Shannon said.

> Shannon said while he would like for the Canes to force Georgia Tech to throw more than they want to, he said the Yellow Jackets have shown a consistency in sticking with the run even on third and long. "Third down and eight, they’ll still run on you. If you don’t have them 3rd down and 14, it’s hard to get them in those true passing situations," Shannon said. "When you watch them on film on third down and 10, they’re still running the fullback dive and still running the option. As long as you don’t give up the 75 to 20 yard runs. If you give up eight, 10, 15 yard runs, you’ll be OK. Because you’ll line up and play again. The long ones are the ones that demoralize you.

> UM picked up its 17th commitment for its 2010 class Tuesday when DE/TE Andrew Tillman from Dorchester Boston College High picked the Canes.

STRIKE A POSE

I'm nervous. Don't have much faith in our D. I am just banking on our offense to outscore them. I hope J-12 can top his week 1 numbers. We should be able to throw it all over these guys.

Contrary to what many believe, I think this game is going to be a low scoring affair. Our O needs to come firing on all cylinders and the D needs to get a turnover or two in the first quarter for us to win running away.

Goodthing fa da jumbo screenz. I'm in the nose bleed. First ticket ever

Maybe I can hang out with the hurt players, I'm pretty good with my hands.

Thanks for the commitment update, Manny. Game should be another gauge for the team to see their progress.

Go Canes!

Manny,

Any word on the expected crowd? Has the university announced how many tickets have been sold yet?

Marcus Forston is getting pumped for this game. He cant wait to be on his back again.
Although I think Miami is vastly improved and will only give up 375 yards on the ground this year. I am so ready for this game to start.
I am going to hang out with my Canes buddies and eat some Tropi Chops from Pollo Tropical.
If we lose, it will be because we are too young, or Jacory caught a cold.

I've been told more than 65,000 are expected. Not a sellout though.

I guess Vaugh Telemaque is 100% - good news there. Sec. 113, Row 19, 40 yard line here I come.

From up in Beantown, Tillman is a great athlete, smart kid. Great addition to an already impressive looking haul for the Canes.

sec.144 ROW 6 at the 30. TURDS SUCK IS A CLOSET FAN. HE WILL COME OUT WHEN TEABAG ABANDONS HIM.

Did our QB actually state that our offense cant be stopped? Why dont we wait to prove things on field before we give fodder for the opponents defense. That could come back and bite us! Im a little nervous about this game, I think we are overlooking these guys.

Manny, The new recruit's last name is Tallman......not Tillman.

20th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, i'm stylin' you b*tches....

If the Canes can take the GT heat in the 1st quarter, they win...

If it's still a game in the 2nd half....yikes...

You guys can talk all you want how Miami is sooo improved from last year. The only improvement is going to be the amount of rushing yards the Jackets pile up on you convicts, GT 31 Miami 20. See you on your NFL home stadium, ha what a joke.

There is no reason GT fans should post here. What have you done? You get hyped, and overhyped, and Calvin Johnson this, and Triple option that, you beat Georgia, and then what? Youget smoked in a bowl.

DO SOMETHING BEFORE YOU SMACK TALK!

Haha, funny a UM fan talking about doing something before you talk smack? Really, since when has Miami done anything? Talk after you finally walk, dont run that trap untill you have. 5 in a row after Thursday.

lol u dont have faith in our "D" ur not a true fan! lets go miami! da "U" is back

GT 35 the U 17.

Yeah DO something. Like:

Win a NC in this century

NOT choke despite your year-in year out expectations.

NOT choke despite having a) the best receiver in cfb (CJ), and two of the best rbs in cfb (Choice and Dwyer- By choking I mean, losing to teams like LSU, etc etc.

GT fans are all blah bl;ah- pretenders never contenders. Just like the Housewives of the ATL- So all you posters from GT- Go back to atl and have a glass a wine with Ne ne.

GT deserves to talk smack, they have owned us the last couple of years. We better step up and take care of business.

I want us to blow this team out so bad it hurts!!!!

Remember, Mr. Nole, the more games Miami wins it looks good for your noles to have only been beat by them by 4. So, you should actually root for Miami.

1. Paul Johnson coaches Georgia Tech. Randy Shannon coaches Miami. Mismatch.

2. Tech just got a crash course in how to handle a Thursday night game. The home team will be pumped and will start fast. The visitor must ride out the first quarter and stay close, which is doubly important if …

3. You’re a running team, which Tech is. The Jackets can’t get too far behind. But they won’t. Indeed, their capacity to control the ball and the clock will help douse Miami’s early fire. Which means …

4. It will come down to execution. That’s a mismatch, too. Miami beat Florida State because FSU is even sloppier than the U. Tech can get sloppy, but not when it matters. And, in case you haven’t noticed …

5. Tech owns Miami. Even Chan Gailey beat the Hurricanes. As Inspector Clouseau would say, “The case, she is sol-ved.”

Let the GT smack talk begin.

The reporter and the GT fans aren't worried at all. Are they that good?

GT RULES, what you don't understand is these are different kind of players from the one Gailey played against. Even last year, it was because we were young. This year if you guys win I will give all the credit to your team, but if we win, don't be a sour grape. The bus stops here. Your little streak of beating us will be over. I said last year, and will say it again that was the last time we lose to a yellow fly.

Hello GT Rules, welcome to Manny's blog.

1. Why do you think PJ is a better coach than RS? Is it just for the triple option Offense? We have coach Whipple calling our O, who defeated PJ coached Georgia southern in the 1998 Div-IAA national championship game.

2/3. The visitor should stay close? I thought the visitor should always out score to quiet the crowd. Closer games favor the home team.

4. Miami wasn't sloppy on Offense. They weren't that bad on D too against FSU, but couldn't get off the field on 3rd downs. I would expect a sloppy performance from the D again.

5. Doesn't mean much at all. True GT has a winning streak going, but the teams are different every year. That's why they play the games.

Correction:

GT nationals championships -- 1917,1928,1952,1990

I guess that would make Princeton, Army, Yale and Harvard quite the powerhouses as well.

I will give them credit for that 1990 Championship though.

Save a lion one lion at a http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOnion#play/all/uploads-all/2/tByP3Q-zTUwtime...

Jus got off the phone with the playmaka himself. He has a radio show in Dallas so I try to get in as much Hurricane talk as I can. You know he pulling for them Canes.

One more day of talk then its game time. Something has stuck with me for a long time during these three years. Some reporters who report on the teams have great insight. Manny is one of em. No butt-kissin here. I remember three years ago people were asking Manny who was gonna end up the QB. Obviously Harris was younger so I expected Manny to go with Marve. But he went with JH. Manny said he reminded him of Dorsey with a better arm. I was like huh? I could see more mobile better QB....nahhhhhhhh. Manny I jus gotta say you called this one right on. You knew this kid was special. Your Tuesday chats were filled with two QB system questions last year. I know you don't miss those but you always gave JH as your answer to the better QB question. Great reporting Manny. Ask those tight wads at the herald for a raise.

Well I see there are some loons posting on here from gt. I also see some on here that posted on the ajc blog posting all this canes rule, canes will crush gt. gt overrated. gt sucks.

should be an exciting game. when is miami going to get in the chick fila kickoff game. next year it's lsu unc.

more ironic than sustaining an eye injury from a product which is meant to protect you is when you suffer an eye injury at the hands of your optician through a lack of care or simple medical negligence.
