Grading the Canes: UNC Report Card

RALEIGH -- About to head home with a bunch of Canes fans here from Raleigh-Durham Airport. A couple quick thoughts and then the grades:

Jacory Harris -- In the grand scheme of things Saturday's loss didn't mean a ton. After Georgia Tech beat Duke, all UM was playing for was a chance to play in a BCS Bowl. There was no guarantee that would happen even if the Canes finished 10-2. Now, does it really matter if they play in the Gator Bowl, Peach Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl or Meineke Car Care Bowl? Not to me.

-- Regardless of how bad Jacory Harris played Saturday, don't look for it to weigh on him very long. Harris was down in the post-game press conference. But he has a room full of 100 teammates and coaches that have his back. If Robert Marve or another quarterback who was capable of really running the offense was around, we might have seen Jacory sitting on the bench after his third pick. But there isn't that guy. You're going to have to live with Jacory's mistakes for now. He's just a sophomore. I have faith he'll get better.

Before I go, here are my grades for yesterday's 33-24 loss to the Tar Heels.

> Quarterbacks: Although it really wasn't all of his fault, the Hurricanes lost Saturday because Jacory was at his worst. It wasn't just some of his throws, it was his decision making. He admitted so himself. Not only did he force balls into double and triple coverage, he didn't put the right touch on passes either -- preferring to float the ball in instead of firing it in. Does Jacory have the arm to fire it in? Yes. Does he do it enough? No way. That's something offensive coordinator Mark Whipple has to focus on more with Jacory next spring. Like I said, he can't take all the blame for a career-high four picks. LaRon Byrd got out-jumped for the first one even though he had four inches on the UNC safety who picked off the pass. Byrd admitted as much afterward. Still, it was worst his day as a Cane. Grade: F.

Graig Cooper > Running backs: Miami didn't have a great day running the football. But when you only carry the ball 25 times and throw it 50, it's hard to. North Carolina's front seven is one of the best in the game, but still struggled stopping UM's running game consistently. Graig Cooper finished with 63 yards on 15 carries. We never saw Javarris James. But Damien Berry had a really good day. He had six carries for 46 yards. My question is this: with UM trailing 23-17 in the fourth quarter why didn't we see more of Berry and less of Jacory throwing the football deep? That's something I wish we could ask Whipple, but will never get a chance too. Still, a decent day for the backs. Cooper had 7 catches for 37 yards and Berry had two grabs for 50. I think it's safe to say we should have seen more of them than we did, especially after UM got back into the game in the fourth quarter and when Jacory was still struggling. Grade: B.

> Receiving: Nine different receivers caught passes Saturday. But none other than Leonard Hankerson's key fourth down grab in the third quarter that led to Miami pulling to within 23-17 really stand out. The fact Byrd got outleaped for a ball was inexcusable. He dropped a key pass on the opening drive. Hankerson dropped a touchdown too. North Carolina's defense was good. But I still expected more from this unit and they didn't deliver enough. Grade: C-.

> Offensive line: There are more than few misleading stats to make you believe Jason Fox and company had a decent day. One, UM's offense produced 435 yards. Two, Jacory Harris won only sacked twice. Here is the stat you really need to look at QBH: Quarterback Hurries. Jacory was hit or pressured 11 times. UNC's T.J. Yates? 3 times. It's hard to feel comfortable in the pocket when one out of every five throws is under pressure. Grade: D.

> Front seven: These were on the verge of being heroes Saturday. But as linebacker Darryl Sharpton said afterward, when the Canes needed a stop down 30-24 in the fourth quarter "we fell apart." Ryan Houston, contained most of the afternoon, ripped off five consecutive carries on the game-sealing drive and tallied 32 yards. That was the ball game. Sharpton finished with nine tackles and Colin McCarthy had a season high 13. Ramon Buchanon had a career-high six tackles. But where was the pressure? Josh Holmes had a sack. But Miami only pressured Yates three times. That's not nearly enough against a beat up UNC offensive line. Grade: C-.

> Secondary: DeMarcus Van Dyke wanted to redeem himself after last year's fiasco. Didn't happen. He got burned by Greg Little on a 29-yard touchdown pass. No, he didn't get any safety help. But what else is new with this UM secondary? Ultimately, UM didn't get enough pressure on Yates. But he shouldn't have been 17 for 31 for 213 yards and a touchdown. Miami had one pass breakup -- and Ramon Buchanon achieved that when he deflected a Yates pass as he threw it. That's called not getting the job done and playing too far off the ball. Grade: D.

> Special teams: Matt Bosher was once again MVP. He averaged 46 yards a punt and had one pinned inside the 20. He made a 39-yard field goal and had a touchback on a kickoff. He even made a tackle on Greg Little to prevent a kick return for a score. UM also did a pretty decent job fixing its punt protection woes. The decision to have guys point out who they'll be blocking before the snap only led to one delay of game penalty and five clean punts. And Mike James and Graig Cooper did a decent job giving UM good field position. The bad? There was a huge block in the back penalty on Thearon Collier's punt return in the fourth quarter. Instead of having the ball at the UNC 46, Miami started at its own 35 with 11:41 to play. Still, a better day overall than last week against Virginia. Grade: B.

> Coaching: Remember when some of us were thinking Mark Whipple might be gone after this season? Probably not going to happen anymore. Not only is his star pupil second in the country in interceptions, but the offense isn't as good as it should be week in and week out. But my biggest beef -- aside from Whipple continuing to call for Jacory to throw deep even after Miami had rallied to bring the game within one score -- was the clock management before the half. Miami was on the UNC 32 yard line and there were 14 seconds left on the clock when Jacory was sacked to end the half. UM had one time out left and didn't use it and instead the clock ran out. If UM connects on a field goal there, it's a 33-27 game in the fourth quarter and Miami still has a chance on the final drive. Instead, it was a nine-point game and out of reach. Grade: D.

I know this won't be popular opinion, but JH is overrated and it has nothing to do with his dismal performance yesterday. I have believed all along that Marve was the better of the UM QB's, but JH always got the hometown support. By no means was Marve perfect, but the arm and wheels were simply superior to JH. Would he have been a better QB fit in Caneland? Probably not because the JH supporters would have always haunted him and I'm not sure he could have handled that mentally.

Those JH floaters just about give me a heart attack 5 or 6 times a game (and those floaters were there last year too, don't kid yourself). I'm still hopeful that JH will develop because he is an exceptional leader and tough, composed kid. You can never take the heart away, but I think a lot of Canes' fans have overrated his athleticism.

Then again, what do I know? I was one of those guys who thought Tom Brady was a 1 year wonder and N.E. should have gone back to Bledsoe.

Just a frustrated Canes'fan after the Clemson and N.C. losses. It's not all on JH because there have been countless letdowns on all sides of the ball (O, D, coaching and special teams).

Please prove me wrong Jacory. Go Canes!!!

P.S. - Could some Pop Warner coach vo;unteer to give a coaching staff a 101 course in clock management?
Prove me wrong Jacory and

The D has been playing better overall the last 2 games. Young guys getting quality playing experience. I'm holding out hope that the D will be NASTY next year with all these guys coming back. Agree that Berry looks like a stud...give him the BALL! Loved the fake punt call. I think we could really take off next year but we need to get these growing pains out of our system...VaTech, FSU, NC should be at home but road games at GaTech, OhioState, and Pitt. Need to be at our best

Well, perhaps our D line will be improved next year but that's not where our biggest difficulty lies. That's reserved for our O line. Unfortunately, things aren't exactly promising for the O line next year. We lose some people and those spots will be filled with green troops. I expect to see more of what we've been seeing lately. Whenever we meet a team with a strong D line and front 7 our QB will be under pressure and the possibility of losing will increase.

WhY cant we win a 330 game

UM scoring and points allowed since 1993, after ten games in a season:

These kids show me no heart at all. They are just as bad as Coker's Clowns. We should have kept NO ONE from that era as they have a loser's mentality. That includes Shannon.

Just no fire there to go out and win.

I didnt read through everything so I dont know if this has been brought up yet

Manny,STOP POSTING THE "WHY WE SHOULD FEAR *insert team here*"

You're killing us

Just remember, there was incremental improvement under Butch Davis until the roster was finally at full strength in 2001.

After ten games:
1995: 7-3 (sanction year)
1996: 7-3 (sanction year)
1997: 5-5 (roster reduced to lowest point)
1998: 7-3 (first year 25 scholys were given)
1999: 6-4
2000: 9-1
2001: 10-0

Keep in mind that even in the darkest season of 1997, Butch Davis still had a veteran, senior quarterback in Ryan Clement who was a talented, very fiery leader. And in 1998 he had a senior Scott Covington to guide the rebuilding Canes.

In some ways the 2007 Hurricanes were even more depleted than the 1997 version. Clements and Covington were definitely better than Wright or Freeman, and Miami's wide receivers from that era were better.

Next season is the true test of Shannon's abilities as a head coach. If they only improve to 9-3 (I expect the Hurricanes to drop the finale against USF), then there is legitimate reason to begin to wonder if Miami may be close to peaking under Randy and will not get over the hump.

For comparison, here's Mac Brown's record at UT during the first 10 games. He had a much stronger base of talent to work with (his predecessor Mackovic left a good deal of talent):
1998: 7-3
1999: 8-2
2000: 9-1

Also, keep in mind that although Mac now has Texas as a consistent national championship contender, it took the hire of the correct defensive coordinator to get them there in 2005. That was EIGHT seasons into Brown's reign. Will Shannon get that long at Miami?

Tony Cane Do you have anymore inane stats? If so please post immediately.

I am looking for tix for Duke, does anyone have good seats that I can buy for the same price as a McDonalds value meal or a Subway footlong?

Anyone who argues that Marve is a better QB than Harris must have an awful short term memory.

To be successful, your quarterback needs to be a leader (both on and off the field). Marve was anything but, and it showed. Indeed, he was a distraction with his arrests and petty selfishness.

Harris, poor performance against NC and all, is clearly a leader. This was the first time all season when he appeared to crack under pressure; the rest of the time, the young man is unfazed. By contrast, think about all of the improbable, game winning drives he's already led this team on--including last year, during Marve's tenure.

Jacory's rapport with his teammates is obvious. Marve never had a whit of it.

Harris all the way. If you want Marve back, I have a simple suggestion: buy a Purdue jersey, wait to watch him (maybe) play over the next year or two, and stop posting here since you have no clue what you're talking about.

Sorry SEC, I guess they just baffled your mind or your weak heart. Just keep pondering them my friend. I have a strong suspicion that you bear a striking resemblance to a starfish from an acclaimed Nickelodeon cartoon.

Its sad to see all these so called fans demanding perfection, but yet those are the same fans that fail to show up at a game. Yes, it was it bad game for the offense, but the 2 int's returned for scores were more on the offensive line than Jacory. Yes, he forces the ball down field, but all he is trying to do is give his receivers a chance. As far as forcing the ball into double and triple coverage he needs to work on that, use the underneath route. The thing that gets me upset is that this is the first year under this offense and defense and some of us are expecting perfection which there's nothing wrong with that. But, let's see where we at in Nov. 2010. Let's give our staff a chance with these kids. We're not losing that many players this year, so next should be bright.

“Perfection is attained by slow degrees; it requires the hand of time”

GO CANES, GO CANES, GO CANES

Still hard to accept. I'm a Canes fan all the way. But I'm fixed upon the fact that we get more and more discombobulated as the season goes on. why? I still think JH can be a good q-back. I'm just so concerned that the team doesn't have that mean hungry attitude that was our strength in the championship years.

Whether it is coaching or the qb, there are simply too many int's being thrown. Lets hope Jacory bounces back like kurt warner did after he threw 5 picks a couple weeks ago.

AS BERRY BEGAN TO GET SOME REPS, I WAS AMAZED TO FIND OUT HE IS A JUNIOR!!!
He consistently gains yardage and when we need the extra push for the first down he finds the way. There are a lot of U fans seeing the same.
Why is it #2/#5(when healthy) get the majority of the playing time? This kid is getting the shaft, just another demo of our coaching staff's poor judgement or ability. time for a change? I'm just sayin.

still nobody has answered why are running that stupid reverse with t. benjamin. It has never worked once.

This team is still young and will gwt better next year with more depth at every position.
however clock management should have been fixed.

Also what is our o-line going to look like next year.

Hey Guys,

Just got back in the country and saw the highlights, what a bad game the canes played. There are so many more important things to dissect about the game, but what I want to know right now is what happened to Jacory when he was about to make the touchdown saving tackle on the first interception that was returned on him. He was right there...about to hit the guy, maybe push him out, when he folded like a chair. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?

Very frustrated right now.

Daniel...maybe u didn't know benji is uhh...fast and it worked againist fla state

Dont too much stock in the D playing better. Virginia is a terrible offense plus they were playing with their backup QB in a 30 mile win. NC came in as the 107th ranked offense and Miami managed zero takeovers plus they wilted on the final drive.

Stop comparing this team to the rebirth under Davis. Davis is a master talent evaluator. Look at how he has rebuilt the UNC defense in 3 years. NFL players all over the place on D. Now look at Shannon. Van Dyke, Brown, VT, and so on have all underperformed or gotten worse at UM. Outside of Allen Bailey, what defensive player recruited by Miami is a legit stud.

J12, i know who benji is and your right it did work against FSu, but that's it Everytime i see it , the defense reads it easily. However , since benji is a playmaker he makes something out of nothing. BUt sometimes it looks like the defense knows whats coming.

That is my fear, Kane. That we may have maxed out at 10-2, 9-3 in the ACC. We may never be good enough to go 7-1, which is what it will take. In one or two years, North Carolina will be at the same level that Va Tech and Georgia Tech are. The ACC Coastal is going to resemble the SEC in terms of difficulty.

That's becuase the unpredictable whipple has become a bit predictable...big play try big play try big play try, try to throw a screen three times in a row...int punt or td just the way the past couple games have gone not really trying to establish the run, but pass then run...plz from the ppl I have heard blame this on Shannon...he doesn't call the offensive plays...nor did he throw the 3 pics

WE`RE THE BEST 7-3 TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. GIVE SHANNON A CHANCE GUYS..HE`LL GET IT RIGHT. TEAM IS LOADED WITH YOUNG TALENT AND MORE COMING IN. J12 IS GOING TO BE A GREAT QB THE NEXT COUPLE YEARS..WATCH OUT. ALL THOSE RECEIVERS WE HAVE WILL ALL BE PLAYING ON SUNDAYS.THE RUNNING BACKS..OUR WELL IS BOTTOMLESS..LOOKING FOWARD TO OUR BRIGHT FUTURE...IT`S ALL ABOUT THE *U*...REMEMBER, WE HAVE A VERY YOUNG TEAM. LEAVE J12 ALONE..HAD A BAD GAME, THAT`S ALL.

can someone explain to me how randy is an excellent recruiter? good recruiter...yes. excellent? not a chance. he had 1 great yr when there just happened to be 11 studs from miami who i probably could have recruited to miami. other than that, what has he done? has he gotten any big name QB? any big name TE? any big name OL? nope...all he has done is recruit the speed which is all around dade county (which he damn well outta be able to seeing as he grew up in the same hood as most of these kids...not a big task to be able to lure them to miami). and some of yall make it out like he has dade county locked down. he gets plenty of talent from that area, but far from anyone he wants.

It's nice to see that there really are some people out there that know a little something about football (FIUFantasctic, Snug, In Randy We Trust, etc). I absolutely cannot read one more post on CaneSport's message boards. That has got to be the biggest collection of absolute morons I have ever seen in my life.

You guys should see the stuff that is written over there. I don't know if it's a bunch of old morons that have never played before or what but they are just absolutely clueless. I really cannot comprehend how people spend a lifetime watching football, yet don't know ANYTHING about what they are watching, It's just unbelievable.

Just had to get that off my chest. God, I hate those guys.

where's the hunger?

coaching and lack of fire is holding this team back from reaching their full potential. next year is do or die. dont cloud the facts. our wins dont show as much improvement as you would think:

FSU- absolute garbage. 5+ losses. we beat them with last second luck.

GT- nothing but a one dimensional system. lovett was only hired to stop GT's option. he did it with UNC last year. this year he did it with us.

VT- completely trounced. pathetic effort and did more b*tching about the cold and rain then actual playing. terrible tackling and sp teams.

OU- overrated win. 4+ losses. 4/5 of their OL went to the draft. 2/3 WR went to the draft. bradford hurt. gresham hurt. broyles hurt.

FAMU- who cares. wasnt even a huge blowout like it should've been.

UCF- "same as FAMU". closer game because of crowd.

CLEM- lost to a very talented team(parker, spiller, ford, bowers, sapp, etc.) however, coaching blew the game by playing "not to lose" and poor clock management.

WAKE- pure luck. if not for a muffed punt we lose with poor effort, bad coaching, and poor QB play (the comeback saved him).

UVA- finally a dominant performance. still bad special teams though and they played a backup QB. not to mention UVA sucks a**.

UNC- atrocious performance all around. too many issues to sum up in one post but the worst part was the lack of heart/fire/hunger.

oh btw i agree with you daniel. that reverse play by T3 sucks. we've run that all year and its never worked once. a 12 yard gain against FSU doesnt even count. that play loses 5 yards almost every time we run it.

ooster- you dont know what you are talking about. You can't compare teams and you can't undermine opponents in the ACC. remember, Clemson was beaten by MAryland, and NC beat VTech. FSU is better than people think, with or without Ponder, and we beat them there. UVA I believe, beat NC. So what, Jemell Sewell is a running QB. We still would have beaten them.

Oklahoma is still very good. BArely lost to Texas

Wake beat Stanford.

Stanford beat USC and Oregon

Should I keep going?

But there are some real good and valid points here:

JH's ints are a horrible eyesore. He has the most ints of any D-1 Qb in the top 50 in QB rating. No excuse for his ints. He needs to throw it away, punt, or take the sack. turnovers almost always = a loss. His ints basically contributed to all of our losses ina ahuge way, because rbs are not fumbling.

Damien Berry should be the #2 tailback. Javarris James is done and I doubt he will play on Sundays. Even a healthy #5 doesnt run like Berry does.

Our TEs should be getting 5-10 throws a game. period.

While critcizing JH, Very few are pointing out how pathetic the O-line is.

The DBS have stunk. A lot of talk. No performance. Where are all the ints youpromised us this year?

Brandon Harris got schooled again vs NC. That's 2 out of the last 3 games that he has been awful.

Hankerson has the dropsies. That will never be different

We are young and injured (on defense), always a bad combination. However, we still were more talented than UNC and should not have lost.

Berry should be the starting RB. I want to see how that change would effect the offense. He seems to have the ability to run through the first tackler, as well as find the holes and follow his blocks extremely well.

Spence, Forston, Ojomo, Armstrong, Nicholas, Futch will all be back, the defense should be much better next year.

I am torn over having more patience vs. frustrated that the team does not perform. This is Shannon's third year of his coaching tenure which has been marked by assistants leaving as well as QB's bailing. He was the Def coordinator so the lack of viable players on D must fall on his shoulders as well.

However, next year add those injured players on D, let the QB actually learn how to play QB in a pro set offense where he makes some reads, and we should be much improved next year.

Go Canes, btw lower the prices so we can have some fans in the stands next year, I heard they have faced reality and cut prices for the noon Duke game.

I agree about lowering the ticket and parking prices. Should have been done in the beginning of the year.

Manny- updates on Moncur and #5? Sean Spence's injury? Will Hill be back this yr? what's the word on the street regarding JJ's draft choices/position?

One thing keeps driving me crazy all year!

When Jacory throws a pic, it seems like nobody on O wants to take down the returner!

Vs. Clemson, Aldarius had his intended pass picked off and jogged behind the guy as he took it in from 20.

On Saturday, the same thing! 2 pics, nobody willing to take the guy down. When we don't get guys down, then stupid crap like the foward latteral come into play. That situation could've been avoided by TAKING THE GUY DOWN.

Besides Jacory, everyone should be diving head first for the ball.

Jacory killed us, but we can't bite the hand that feeds us....

When I saw the GT score, even I felt like crap. I can imaging the players....

What a horrible game. Let's hope we can bounce back and finish strong.

ooster- you dont know what you are talking about.

No he does not.

Lack of fire? Are you freaking kidding me? Talk about having no idea what you are talking about. Typical idiotic South Florida fan. Doesn't say it's our crappy O-Line or the injuries that have decimated our defense our Jacory's bad passing day. No. What does this genius come up with? Lack of fire. Typical moronic answer from a clueless moron.

The []_ _[] is Back!

Well tell Jacory to stop throwing pics. Is he still up for the Heisman?

Agree with your comment "The U is Back" given that we now know that our QB is going to throw picks in every game, someone should teach our O line how to tackle. Against UNC they looked like a bunch of Gumbie dolls getting bent and run over by the UNC defensive team after each pick. It was embarassing

Well the only excuse I can come up with was how sunny it was in the first half. We weren't prepared for all the sunlight and then when it got darker in the second half we were confused.

guys...9-3 is harder than you think....our d is our problem..yes this is the first time in our losses that Jacory has not put us in position to win and the d blow it..but he had us down by 6 and the d crumbled...the d is horrible...Not ONE nfl guy not one....sharpton chases the play all day he is a good back up at best...the front 7 is a joke...this week we will be facing Thad lewis..he will destroy us if we continue to play d way..and in two weeks the bulls think we are there bowl game...two very tough games..( hard to believe that,) duke and usf tough games that is where this program is...I predict Jacory has the best game of his career against duke and shows his resolve......GO CANES..but the D should be embarassed to wear the uniform...there flat out bad and no talent...forget the injuries

nealtrom- I agree.

Nice breakdown Manny...

All u guys are typical bandwagon fans. Blame lack of coaching and lack of talent it's the only excuses u guys can come up with. You guys are a joke. Just cuz we go 3-1 to start the yr. You guys expect national championship. Be realistic guys. Stop daydreaming.

Before u gators get ur painties in a bunch, I'm pretty sure Tebow threw 2 pick six's vs. a way worse Miss. St. team. Ponder threw 4 pics vs. Clemson I believe.... It happens.

It was Jacory's worst game by far, and Canes fans shouldn't expect such a horible performance again.

So just support the guy. honestly, at this point we have no choice.

The []_ _[] is Back!

Back to sucking as usual. Where is taylor Cook. He should have stayed. Better arm, more brians and probably would have done a better job then Jascary "Int" Harris.

Damm when will the ewwww get a real qb not an imposter brought in only to get the other bulls. Package deals don't work all the time. This time it has not.

I can only laugh at ANYBODY that can defend 9-3 like it is a good thing. It is a different era of Hurricane football, that is for sure!!! Also, the Canes aren't even 9-3 yet! Anyone defending 9-3 for the Hurricanes is being injudicious. If there is one thing we have come to know about Shannon's teams is that they refuse to play good defense and they typically start the season strong with extremely lackluster and underperforming finishes. I'm not sure what I find more disappointing about this team... the way they play defense or the way they play altogether. They play football the way they are coached to play football and that is downright scary. I'm trying to find patience in Shannon but it is difficult when he coaches so underwhelmingly. Here we are AGAIN wondering why we aren't playing for the conference championship. I'll tell you all one thing... it's NOT due to injuries!!! AND the skill level on the field is PLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLenty good enough!!!

Lack of talent. But the recruiting classes that are coming in are top 10. 6 guys out of 7 are gone for the yr And they are on D. Your lucky our D has kept us in games toward the end of the yr. And those of you ripping Bharris for getting beat. Don't jump on his D!ck next yr. O yea he's up for awards already this yr. It's called development. And we are goin threw it right now.

guys...9-3 is harder than you think....our d is our problem..yes this is the first time in our losses that Jacory has not put us in position to win and the d blow it..but he had us down by 6 and the d crumbled...the d is horrible...Not ONE nfl guy not one....sharpton chases the play all day he is a good back up at best...the front 7 is a joke...this week we will be facing Thad lewis..he will destroy us if we continue to play d way..and in two weeks the bulls think we are there bowl game...two very tough games..( hard to believe that,) duke and usf tough games that is where this program is...I predict Jacory has the best game of his career against duke and shows his resolve......GO CANES..but the D should be embarassed to wear the uniform...there flat out bad and no talent...forget the injuries

Not one NFL guy? Are you serious with this post? I'm just speechless.

You are correct that the D is a big problem but then you go ahead and lose all credibility and show your stupidity with saying not one NFL guy and no talent.

Allen Bailey will definitely be in the NFL. Colin McCarthy will definitely be in the NFL. Sean Spence will definitely be in the NFL. Moncur will be in the NFL. Brandon Harris is a sophomore and a Thorpe Award finalist and probably will be in the NFL. Robinson is too early to tell. Telemaque is too early to tell, etc.

You are a moron. Go hang yourself.

Why was Sam Sheilds not playing against UNC?? I didn't see him listed on the injury report? Van Dyke is bad and hope McGee can step up next season and start in his place.

ItsaCanesThing, 2 great posts. Are all fans this irrational and stupid or is it just the fans down here. It's really ridiculous. You cannot have an intelligent conversation here.

It's nice to see that there really are some people out there that know a little something about football (FIUFantasctic, Snug, In Randy We Trust, etc). I absolutely cannot read one more post on CaneSport's message boards. That has got to be the biggest collection of absolute morons I have ever seen in my life.

Damm when will the ewwww get a real qb not an imposter brought in only to get the other bulls. Package deals don't work all the time. This time it has not. Pedro plzz bro go kill urself. Ur a joke who doesn't know his left from right.

Not ONE NFL guy? Are you dellusional? That defense is STACKED with NFL guys.

Allen Bailey
Brandon Harris
Joe Joseph
Colin McCarthy
Eric Moncur
Randy Phillips
Darryl Sharpton
Sean Spence

If Bailey comes back this year and that is a HUGE if (I wouldn't) then he could go on to be a first rounder the following year. Joseph, McCarthy, Phillips and Sharpton will not be first or even early rounders but they WILL be on NFL rosters next year, every one of them. You make yourself seem fairly naive with your awareness of the team with comments like that!!!
