Injury report for Virginia: James, Phillips probable

The Miami Hurricanes still have a significant number of injuries they are dealing with. But this week it looks like at least a couple guys could be coming back against Virginia.

Running back Javarris James, who missed the Wake Forest game with a lower extremity injury, has been listed as probable alongside safety Randy Phillips (torn labrum). Defensive end Andrew Smith, who did not play against Wake Forest, was not listed on the injury report and is expected back.

Senior defensive end Eric Moncur (groin) has missed three games this season including two of the last three and is listed as doubtful.

Out -- as expected -- safety Ray Ray Armstrong (lower extremity), fullback Patrick Hill (ankle), safety Jojo Nicolas (upper extremity) and linebacker Sean Spence (lower extremity).

CLEANING UP THE BLOG: For those of you who continue to post offensive and obscene comments, The Miami Herald is now taking measures to ban you from posting here in the future. All I've ever asked you guys to do is to avoid posting comments that are over the top. If you don't want to be banned or have your comments deleted you should stop doing whatever bad things you've been doing. Consider it your final warning.

As for the regular posters who contribute to thoughtful, meaningful discussions I apologize that this has taken so long. Please continue to do what you've been doing to make Eye On The U a fun place for Canes and college football talk.

You rock Manny!

And thanks for the Twitter notifications when you put up stories, they really do help!

Cleaning up the Blogs!

Great, start with pedro and the other 30 names he uses. It's almost impossible to enjoy this site after this KID get's on it!

Any news on what is wrong with Ray Ray? I watched the game that he played last and I never saw him get hurt.

cleaning it up.......about time..

let's clean up the turds that have nothing better to do on this site but talk about a christian virgin moyle, foley and the 24 frauds, and a coach who takes no blame for his action

go canes beat uva!!

Cleaning.....up the.....blogs? It's about time, Manny. I might actually start posting again.

Coach P.. I dont think ne one is saying ne thing but i think Ray Ray is suspended and they just list him as injured

Thanks, as always, Manny! Especially for cleaning things up... IT'S ALL ABOUT THIS U!!!!

Hey Jesse, Ray Ray has been seen in an air cast around campus. He's injured.

As I sit here and ponder my hard core addiction to Cane football and my obsession to them winning and dealing with the heavy heart when they loose I have to remind myself to keep it in perspective. My co-worker told me about her friends son who is 5 1/2 years old and battling cancer for the last 2 1/2 years of his life and will not make it and all he wanted for Christmas was Christmas cards from all who love him. How selfish are we. Football is just a game, not our way of life. Lets just enjoy what the Canes can give us, win or loose and be satisfied that we all have our loved ones and our health. From Yooper Cane in Upper Michigan.

Does anybody know if Pat Hill is going to get a medical redshirt!? We could use him next season. He has been out since the 2nd or 3rd game.

Andrew Smith should help the DL stay fresh.

I really enjoy your updates Manny and also good to see you're cleaning things up.

With the Cane recruits coming in and maturation of the players that are here today, I think next year should be a much stronger, less injury prone, and more resilient team. Incoming class looks solid. Although--maybe it's just me but, I would like to see more offensive linemen recruits. Hopefully more will get picked up.

Having said all that, this really has been a good year. If you don't believe me, look at the 4-4 GA Bulldogs and the 6-2 USC Trojans. They've consistently had gonzo recruiting classes and look where they are.

Canes have earned respect.

I missed the eye gouging thing, what ahppened?

I'd like to second CaneDunn's question and raise him one -- I'd like to know about Pat Hill AND Richard Gordon for next year? Any news on them redshirting? Anyone?

Thanks Manny and keep up the good work!!

My question is that if Ray Ray and Spence...god forbid...have injuries that may last until the end of the season, are they both eligible for medical redshirts?

And I guess my other question is, does anyone know the requirements for a medical redshirt?

Nevermind, I found it from the website AllExperts, it says that the proper term is not "medical redshirt" but rather "medical hardship waiver" and it states:

Medical Hardship Waiver

If a student-athlete suffers a season-ending injury or illness after competing in a limited amount of competition during a particular academic year, he/she may qualify for a medical hardship waiver which would allow him/her an additional season of competition during the five-year period of eligibility. To qualify for a medical hardship:

(a) the student-athlete’s injury or illness must occur in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition or subsequent to the first day of classes in the student-athlete’s senior year in high school;

(b) the injury or illness must occur prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport and must result in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and

(c) the injury or illness must occur when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests/dates of competition or 20% of the institution’s scheduled contests/dates of competition in his/her sport (whichever number is greater).

Manny U rock! It's been nothing short of unbearable on here with Pedro & Co. posting their garbage!

This team is going to walk through a lot of adversity over the next few weeks and we do not need a bunch of Gator fans posing as canes coming on here pissing off the real fans.

As it was pointed out earlier on the sentinel blog, if you critique UM these people will use your posts to support their position. If praise UM you are an idiot, and if you are new to blogging, you will never come back.

I honestly think these fools think they are influencing our recruit's with their rants! Jacory told Manny he likes to read the blogs sometimes, can you imagine having to read through the garbage that Pedro & Co. were posting yesterday?

This probably will not stop these moron's completely, but it will go a long way to create a geat place to debate UM athletic's.

Thanks again Manny!

Go 'canes!

Thank god these clowns are gone! Thank you Manny you the man! Now back to this injury report is Ray Ray suspended or injured? Does anyone know the truth?? I was really hopin he would finish the year the kids fun to watch and to me the defense played with more intensity with him rather than phillips it may be just me but I think he brings the fire and intensity when he is in the game! Get well soon ray ray we sure could use your help kid! Go canes and blow UVA out please!!

So newspapers need to make money...
On the internet.
And they aint.
And they're dying.

Since the Herald's gonna assign staffpeople
to monitor this blob - for the schmucks anyway...

Try a new model, Navarro.

Instead of a subscription...
or pretending ads on the web actually pay for the work y'all do.

Why not make us all spend...oh, like $50 bucks..

Every idiot comment -- i.e. rude, swear-riddin, or pro-Gator -- the etards make - you deduct $10. At five, they're out...MH keeps the cash. At the end of the season, whatever we have left -- y'all at the herald make a deal w/ "preferred" advertisers where we can spend our Cash...

Other than that?
keep it up, mang
...and dont let the sentinel get you down...

CANES, baaby

Does anyone know if the Miami UVA game will be televised and if so what station? Thanks

Hooray!

Slimeball gator fans will no longer live on this blog!

Only coverage I've seen is espn360...

3 lb's, now I understand why we don't blitz, it will wear those guys out. Play every lb we've got....so stubborn!!!!

Alright my man Manny. About time to put some accountability into the blog! I would have posted more before but I didn't want to read some offensive posts... lol

Now its a new day!

From what I have seen from the new recruits, we should have the right personnel to create depth that would withstand the injuries that kicks it about this time of the year. Hope we survive with wins all the way to the end.

Good! Now maybe more logical posting.

Oye, Manny thanks for getting the broom and getting these trash talking punks off the blog. Finally we will have sensible conversation without half the blog being post about how bad the canes do from pedro and his homie's.
We got hit with the injury bug this year but its all good cause we still in the fight. Keep fightin CANES

Wow it is about time. It seems like two or three individuals have been here posting under assumed names for the sole purpose of saying derogatory comments and I am glad the Herald is going to remove these posts or ban the users. There are plenty of great fans who want to post on this site but have been kept away because of the imposters.

The game this weekend should be interesting. Unlike Tyrod Taylor, Sewell is a runner first, passer second. We need to prove we can stuff the QB run. Also, Al Groh has always featured the TE and loves to screen which is what teams have been doing to our defense lately. Virginia's pass defense is ranked high but other than Duke, they haven't played a passing team, so I think that is misleading.

This team is starting to remind me on 1984. Great offense, young defense. We score alot of points, and we have been giving up alot of points. Every game is exciting to watch. Think about it. What have been the best games to watch this year even if you were not a fan of either team? FSU-Miami, Miami-GT, Miami-Oklahoma, and Miami-Clemson are definitely in the top ten. Sure, I would like some boring wins but this team has been exciting after several years when it has been very painful to watch.

I have really enjoyed this year and I wish the Sanes the best against against Virginia. Last year was the revenge game for the OB. This game is about the players taking it to the next level. I think they will.

Its true, to many people have no respect, kids read this and UM fans who want to engage in serious dialouge about their team. hey the team has been depleted by injuries. Everyone dogs shannon, well he played for the U, was raised in MIA. U know he bleeds orange and green. I do think Whipple should open up the offense even more. Hey Coker was a nice guy but he pushed us back a few years as far as progress. We are almost back.

Hey #1 canefan. I saw on espn where the game is only on ESPN 360. However on dish network channel 455 it is part of ESPN Gameplan. You can pay per view the game for $24.

God Bless America

As I sit here and ponder my hard core addiction to Cane football and my obsession to them winning and dealing with the heavy heart when they loose ...

just so U know, when a redneck in a nascar race spins out, it's called "loose" ... When the Canes don't win , it's called "lose" ...

U'll get uoosed to it

Say what ?

U didn't "loose" ?

U win

game is on channel 4

I'm getting the game on my local CBS channel through a Raycom broadcast. Check your local cbs channel or ESPN game plan.

Thanks for cleaning up the posts Manny. Some of those guys need to just go away as they're only here to start trouble.

Thanks Manny! It's about time the offensive jerks get off this board. Constructive criticism is never a bad thing, but some of theses poster are just straight hateful. Us cane supporters thank you!

Coach P.. I dont think ne one is saying ne thing but i think Ray Ray is suspended and they just list him as injured

Posted by: Jesse | November 05, 2009 at 07:59 PM

Ray Ray is in a soft leg brace stabalizing his knee, he could be done for the season

In Southwest Fl the game is on CBS/ raycom.

One thing is the fiorst amendment, but a paper has all the right to limit not onlt inappropriate, but also obnoxious posts. Furthermore, these jokers would come on here and talk trash about UM, 90% of which made no sense and was all hateful. Now, anyone knows that fans always talk smack to each other, butthese guys were over the top, mean, rude, repetitious, and silly.

One thing is having a gator or seminole friend and talking smak to each other for 5 minutes, then you stop and move on. These rants were the same always. So am glad they were limited. I for one admit, got caught up in them out of sheer reaction, and sometimes they sucked me in. I know, had this been going on perso n,I would have laid some wood on someone. But most people don't do that UNLESS tyou guys have ever been to the Sw(du)amp.

That said, I hope more than 30,000 cane fans show up. Its goingto be a beautiful weekend. I think that having 42,000 at the very important Clemson game was pathetic. We UM fans should be ashamed! 60,000 plus like againstOk would have made a HUUUGE difference. Clemson would undoubtedly have put 80,000 in their stadium against us.

Yeah- Virginia's Groh likes bubble screens. That's how they killed us with the TE 48-0 (notto mention we had a toxic team of quitters) in 2007. They saw waht Wake did, and I am sure they will try to repeat it. Contain the Qb from running and we are golden!

Offense- run the ball. Don't stop if you go 2, 2 yds. keep running it. lanes will open. Just don't fall behind early.

What is the official injury for spence? I'm tired of the "extremities" term. I check the website every day to see who is healthy and who isn't and I never get a straight answer.

Cleaning up? Start wiht Sarasota Cane. He attracts the rif raf as he goes on other blogs and usually starts it. Check out the Gator Blogs on the Herlad and Sun Sentinel

Hey Cane fans stop whining about posters on your site. Follow Sarasota Cane, MTX Cane Jahomo and Ibis1966. They live on the Gator blogs. They are usually the first to post on the Gator blog or any Gator story. I don't even think they post anything on the UM blogs. If those guys weren't posting constantly over there, I doubt Gators would be posting on the UM blogs.

well it is a sad day in the U.S. when no one can post a negative comment on a blog. I understand that the name callling or bad words or other over the top should be gone but a blog is place to vent to write to express or feelings.

It is sad that so many kool aid drinkers do not see the reality of UM fottball. They only see the past and are so bent on trying to elevate this poorly coached, poorly trained and just plain bad.

Stop with bring up excuses and except the fact that this years team is not good. Maybe next year yes but this no.

If you want banned for having an opinion one way or the other that is up to you but remember that is what happened in Cuba, Russia, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and et al. Vivi The Republic.

What's the deal with Lamar Miller?

What about all the vaughn Telemaque comparisons to ed reed he has done nothing this year that would make me compare anything to ed reed! Reed was a ballhawk and always made big plays VT has done nothin big this year! I was really expectin him to make big plays this year! What do you true canes fans think about VT and his lack of production this year? Like big plays ints pick 6s etc etc??

I'm with everyone else on the blog Manny. Cleaning it up is a great idea and should be extended to those who are not only over the top but whose only purpose is to consistently disrupt the conversation for others. I'm glad it is happening and that the Herald is supporting it.

WHat a relief to see all these comments - and not a one abusive, obscene or criminal. Just talk about the Canes for once.
Thanks, Manny!
