Is Arthur Brown's Canes career over?

He came to Coral Gables as the nation's No. 1 linebacker in 2008. Now, Arthur Brown is leaving before even really getting on the field.

Arthur BrownAccording to UM's sports information deparment, Brown is not enrolled in classes this semester and has returned home to Wichita, Kansas. "It is unknown if he'll be returning, but he has not requested a transfer," UM SID Mark Pray told our Susan Miller Degnan moments ago.

Neither Brown, his father, or mentor Bryce Butler have been reached for comment.

Brown (6-2, 200) played in all 13 games for UM this past season, mostly on special teams and finished the year with 13 tackles. He recovered a key fumble in a win at Wake Forest.

He came to UM from Wichita East High as the top prospect in the country according to Scout.com. He was selected a Parade All-American and named to USA Today's All-American team. Despite starring in high school, Brown had trouble picking up more complex defenses in college. Junior Sean Spence told me earlier this season Brown had trouble recognizing when the run was coming and when the pass was coming and was often slow to react.

Now, the question becomes will Brown return?

The Hurricanes have recruited five linebackers in this class and are losing just one starter at the position, senior Darryl Sharpton. Spence, Jordan Futch (returning from a torn ACL), senior Colin McCarthy and junior Ramon Buchanon saw the majority of snaps last year for the Canes at linebacker. Freshman linebacker Tyrone Cornelius is already on campus.

Man this stinks - right before national signing day.Randy needs to get his act together.

Good luck young man. Whatever you decide U do what's best for U.

Arthur Brown to Transfer

Got some info today on Arthur today. He was in Wichita and did not attend Miami's bowl game. Was told that he plans on enrolling at Butler as to not have to sit a year. Why would he not transfer and redshirt. Did he use the redshirt this year or can you not use the redshirt on the transfer year?

What the he'll does RS have to do with him leaving. The kid couldn't smell the field. Didn't u read the article? He didn't know what was coming, a pass or run. Can't blame the coach for everything!

Another over-rated, under intelligent piece of dead weight I am glad to see move on. A great reminder before national signing day as to how bogus all these recruiting rankings are. They are a complete joke.

There's something weird about this, he'ss not transferring, instead he quit?? And where them bloggers at if he wants to play for another school he must transfer he can't just quit. Thanks for the write up manny lets see is actually going on

i think the pressure to got to him. rivals hyped him ... i really wished he would have stayed to develop into beast...seems like a great kid. Good luck

That is FALSE because he played in the Bowl Game.

its randy's fault? Please a walk like Cory Nelms has contributed more on the field than AB. AB might be a nice kid and I wish him the best but he has been invisible.

LOL Dwight - how is this Randy's fault? The kid was a bust and was never going to step on the field as a Cane. This is not a big deal at all.

I remember on that signing day being very thankful that Ramon Buchanon switched his committment back to the Canes last second despite indicating he was going to UF. Thank God for that one huh? I remember also that everyone was so excited about Brown and what a wonderful thing it was to get this kid.

I wish him well, but I bet Tyrone Corneleus and the rest of the 3-stars have a better UM career than Brown did. Still, I hope he finds his way to the pros somehow.

Timing SUCKS!!!!!

Great, another schoolie just got open...

Lets not turn this into a bash RS thing. He was a two year special team player. Not a big loss plus we have 4 guys returning with a lot of playing experince and five more freshman on the way. He was overrated just like his brother. Good luck to him but not a big deal.

From now on, Randy should only sign 2 & 3 star players. Forget the 5 stars. This ain't no babysitter club. Let the Gayturds have the overhiped 5 stars. Give me my 3 star Futch and 2 star Reed. 5 star must mean how dumb you r. Who cares about the 4 stars that are left. McCartney wants to go to WV, let him go. U either want to play for us, or not. If U even hesitate, don't let the door hit ya on the way out. ITS ALL ABOUT THIS U!!!!!!

When so many players leave the program, something is definitely amiss.

When so many top local players bypass the U, something is definitely amiss.

When NO elite recruits want to sign with the U anymore, something is definitely amiss.

When we can't even win the freakin' ACC Coastal, and we get blown out in crappy post-season bowl games, something is definitely amiss.

Where is the accountability?

Brown did play in the bowl game. I was there and I saw him. This has nothing to do with Randy by the way. If the kid can't hack it, well then it is time to go. Arthur is a good kid, so I wish him the best.

The good news is that now their will be one more scholarship available for a late signee.

Sad to see him go. Also sad to see him stay at 200lb. I know we have a history of great "undersized" LBs but its been a while since there was any physically imposing LB at UM. At 200lbs, we don't need more lightweight LBs like Brown, especially if they dont have the instincts to make up for it.

Goes to show that the star rating means nothing... There's more that goes into recruiting a player then his star rating... I will back Randy Shannon on that one and say I'm ok with our recruiting... It's his coaching come game day that kills me

I read that KSU blog thread and it said he was planning on leaving before xmas. WTF

Anyway, let's see what my bot RS does tomorrow!

Manny... Thanks for the news, but man,... I'm one sad puppy to see him go.

Arthur... if reading this, sorry man, that things didn't work out, as you were my pick of the litter, of the LB'ers class of 08.

Hate to see ya go, but I understand that relationships change, plans get mixed up and sometimes life gets twisted... So good luck to you and your future.

Cat5

OK, move along folks, there's nothing to see here!

LOL

Alright, who's next!...Step up!

Will the next Millionaire please sign in!

Good take Cane305. Go Canes!

All the more reason for the U to stay clear of the dreaded 5-star players. He joins the 2000 decade of 5-star flops we've had: Wright, Moore, Youngblood, Williams, Leggett(some services), & the Jury is still out On Forston and Armstrong. He didn't play against good comp. in Kansas and his high school coach probably let him freelance anyway. When's the last time we had a 5 star play like one? I will say this in closing unless we get stability in our coaching staff we are going to keep underachieving as a team. We've had way to many coaching changes in the last 5 years to build continuity and I know it has to hurt the players.

Dwight... need to verify, but with the class being full, we may have had to lose a ship to gain another ship before tomorrow and if he was leaving, maybe it was for the best, to do it now... but sometimes no-info is just as bad as guessing... Ya know what i mean?

Here we go with another reason to bash Randy again. If the knock on him was that he couldn't pick up defensive schemes then he obviously knew he was not going to get playing time @ Miami. I see him going to JUCO this year and then going to join his brother @ Tennessee ( No brainer there.) It's more of an opportunity for another LB to see the field sooner just like if you got hurt somebody else takes your place. I wish him the best of luck .

IS THIS THE UM HURRICANE FAMILY ????

Why do people on blogs bash athletes during these times. These are kids. We are all human and we are not all RAY LEWIS. Many people (so-called UM Fans) bashed ABrown from the start, along with ever other athlete who does not immediately play like a freak of nature. I don't know what happened on the field, but what we do know is ABrown NEVER COMPLAINED and was a TRUE CANE.

Enough already... do you have any sympathy - even at the end of his UM career, can you express support and encouragement. IS THIS THE UM HURRICANE FAMILY ????

ABrown - get an education, and pursue your NFL dreams elsewhere - you never know what may happen. Best Wishes.

Good luck Brown... Now get Shirley...

I guess those overHYPED Gator stars didn't win 2 national & SEC championships in 3 years. LOL...great point made there.

Good luck staying stuck in mediocrity, U. FSU and UF have clearly something attracting recruits over Randy Shannon and his recruiting team. Now you are seeing them having trouble developing their top tier talent, just like they did with Marve. I'm sorry to say but Randy is not going to get the U back to where it was 10 years ago.

Big slap shot bob; what part of this story you don't get?
The kid can't read or understand what the hell to do.
Maybe you should pack ur bags and tag alone with him?

This message is for Big Slap shots. Its obvious that you are a Randy Shannon hater. The is Back.We have the deepest team in football. The reason why Kids don't want to go to the U is because they are not going to get a guarnteed starting spot. And FSU and UF are rebuilding.Um is not.

Randy never give him a chance, not even in blowouts. He lost all his confidence.top recruits are looking into this.Randy stop playing favorites. He is more talented than Cook.

Where is the accountability?

Perhaps that amiss Head Coach Randy Shannon

Apreciate the love Shaun, but you just credited a phony. I do kow who it is but they're using my username, now on here and on SS. Big up to that loser!

GO CANES! brown who? maybe a better fit in some other type of deffense, good luck...

I think everyone should let this situation play out and see what happens. This kid came to miami with the expectation of playing a lot and probably starting his first year. He then thought his brother would be joining him the next year. By his junior year he thought he would have the option to enter the draft and be a high pick. Neither of those things happened and now he sees his dreams and goals slipping away. Reality is starting to set in that football might not be his future source of income. Heading back to Kansas is natural because of his reputation there. Hopefully he will find his way in football at the U or somewhere else.

Have you even gone back to look at your star list starting at 2002 to see which "stars" actually panned out for U? I didn't think so. Let's use Louis Murphy for example. Bet you didn't know he was just a 3 star, huh?

Remember, they are BcS Championships not National Championships. Also, put into consideration other teams were undefeated, and simply didn't get the "vote". Such a shame, but claim them as you must because YOU WILL NEVER HAVE AN UNDEFEATED SEASON! That's what REAL champions must endeavor. Hint, hint: ROLL TIDE!!!

Back to Arthur...

Sir Arthur Brown QUICKLY learned, like ToTo too, that he wasn't in Kansas any longer.

I guess the lack of picking up the schemes got to Brown, as well as the STIFF competition.

Nonetheless, I hope the kid finds a school where he can be the LB he hoped to be.

Good Luck Sir Arthur.

i thought brown was going to be the next ray lewis. the guy was fast as light. i thought he really coulda been a force out theere is they put him in a demarcus ware type of player.

More bad news for this program - this year's recruiting class is nothing to write home about and now this. WOW - this program is going in the wrong direction and someone needs to step in a fix it.

So all the other Lb's step up their game, Spence, Buchanon, C Mac, and Futch. Shannon coaches them up and even turns Spence into freshmen all American. But you fools gove Shannon the blame for not developing Brown, when we have a slew of other young LB's player very damn well. My theory is if he was playing any better than the other LB's he would have been on the field. You idiots really think Brown was the better LB and Shannon sat him on the bench?? If you dont like Shannon just say so, dont make up stupid excuses/reasons to bash the man.

When so many players leave the program, something is definitely amiss.

When so many top local players bypass the U, something is definitely amiss.

When NO elite recruits want to sign with the U anymore, something is definitely amiss.

AMEN NEMO2002!!! TOO MANY KOOL-AID DRINKERS!! WE REACHED OUR CEILING AT 9-4!!

WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY WE KEEP LOSING PLAYERS ON THIS TEAM, RIGHT AT THE LAST MOMENT ? IS IT THE CONSTANT TURMOIL WITH THE COACHING STAFF OR WHAT? WHAT GIVES?

I like how when RS cleans up the program by graduating players, taking a zero tolerance on crime, improves the overall record every year and doesn't cry about his contract but remains loyal to the []_[], the so called fans who don't sellout games bash him when minor operational setbacks happen that occur in every program in the nation!!!
Get some []_[]nderstanding people!!!!!

Never like to see any Cane leave, even the QB's that transferred out last year. Anywayz, Arthur Brown is still a stud and hopefully he clears up whatever is going on in his personal life and comes back becuz no matter what he is still a Cane until otherwise.
On another note somebody said that jury still out on Ray Ray Armstrong?? This kid is fierce! He's got the swagger The U needs!! Was just a freshman last year, trust me he will be a beast!

I was personally in class with Arthur just last week (he was indeed enrolled in classes earlier this semester) but was not in class today.

I didn't talk to him, but he seemed to be happy and has a girlfriend here at UM so it seems a tiny bit surprising he's leaving completely but you never know.

Quit bashing him. I wish Arthur the best in whatever he chooses to do

More bad news for the program? The kid can't read nor understand
the schemes, with saying this you have read the story and now you
don't understand why he left maybe you should have left with HER...

Gawd it's going to be funny in 10 years when we are still holding on to the 4.5 national championships and 2 undefeated season like the crumdegeon old dolphin players.

Ask yourself why is FSU beating us in recruiting n our own backyard? They have a worse record and a new coach. Is Burt Reynolds out there passing out $100 bills?

I am sorry but if we don't at least get to the ACC Championship game- RANDY MUST GO

I was just on another site...please let's get the details before you bash Arthur. We aren't even 20 y old yet.I truly believe he was going to get in "A" in our Coloring Class. He may not have been able to pick up whether it was a pass or run but he could color in between the lines!

Good luck Arthur

If Shannon turned Spence into Freshman All-American, what happened to him last year? Did anybody watch the bowl game and see the horrible LB play? Miami is one injury from having to play a true freshman at LB again, just 2 years after Shannon recruited 7. What a joke.

Arthur Brown should be the starting middle linebacker next year now that Daryl Sharpton is gone. Brown will probably be back.

Listen people- Why bash RS?

Arthur Brown just didnt get it. Period.

Sam Shields just didnt get it as WR. period.

Tyrone Moss got fat and didnt get it. Period.

Charlie Jones? Ditto

Those are but a few.

Please. These kids were so overhyped.

AB should have come out as a 3 star at best, and expectations would not have been so high. he then would have ended up at Mizzou, or Kansas State, or whatever, and fizzled away. Playing at this speed exposed him. Not that it hasnt exposed others, as well, but he too.
