Canes schedule Michigan State for 2020, 2021

The University of Miami and Michigan State announced the signing of a two-game football series in 2020 and 2021 according to a press release on the school's website.

The `Canes will travel to East Lansing and the Michigan State campus on Sept. 26, 2020. MSU will visit Miami on Sept. 18, 2021.

"We are committed to continuing our tradition of playing a strong non-conference schedule," said Miami Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt. "The University of Miami is excited to announce this series against a very strong Big Ten Conference program. These types of match ups are great for our program and the game of college football."

UM has won all four previous meeting with Michigan State, but the two programs have not met since 1989. Three of the four all-time meetings have been decided by less than a touchdown.

In coming seasons UM has non-conference games scheduled with BCS opponents Notre Dame, Nebraska, Cincinnati, Florida, USF, Ohio State and Kansas State.

This season, Michigan State has gone from unranked in the preseason polls to No. 7 in the initial BCS rankings released last weekend.

That is excellent news, yet another school that recognizes that a home and home series with the Canes benefits both schools.

While SOME schools are dodging opponents, cancelling rivalry series, and hiding from BCS level competition, Miami and Michigan State are showling that they are willing to let the decision be made on the field.

Cool deal.

Maybe by then will finally be 10-2.

Anyone know why we always play the first game on the road?

That Randy Shannon interview on 790am was uncomfortable. He was getting pelted with difficult questions.

"Castrated Bull gator, I know U are not the one that is accussing anyone of having 15 screen names when that is you."
Nah, Bull Gator is a different person. I hae stayed out of your discussion with Bull Gator, because I don't have a side in that issue.

"Today U want to be known as Canes over Gators, AP agrees. Well I agree as well that Canes are over Gators. But slick no body on here cares about the Gators."
I have been Canes over Gators, Feral Cat, and some other names. I used to have just one name, but the Gator Troll likes to copy IDs, so I shift around a bit until he finally disappears.

"You are the only one that brings them up."
Nah, just in this thread there were IDs "Say What" and "K-Man" that also brought up the Gators. Of course, you could claim they were both me as well.

"A few years ago I was the guy that bashed the Steamer boy to death until he quit posting on here. "
I don't know who the Steamer guy is, and I am glad you trounced him. I am talking about the guy that goes by Curse of Art Kehoe, who got banned from the Sentinel and now posts on here and on the post 24/7/365 for the past three years.

"Dude you are the only one on here who has no guts or nuts for that matter."
Perhaps. Perhaps not. No way to prove it here.

"These other people that post are just fed up and tired of losing because of SHannon."
What a shock. I am fed up and tired of losing because of Shannon, Harris, Whipple, and the rest of them as well. I got no problem with that.

"He can't coach, he can't recruit, he can't gameplan, he can't beat Butch, he can't even hold on to players that have already signed with us."
I will add to that. When was the last time we were able to say we OUTCOACHED an opponent? Probably during the comeback against Florida, when we unexpectedly used the TE late in the game during a comeback. And that wasn't even Shannon in action. Each game we have won, it was due to talent overcoming an opponent, not scheme.

"Oh yeah he can't win either unless he is going up against a Duke or a FAMU or against a head coach as bad as him with less talent like Wandstache."
Or against a better coach with injuries, like against Oklahoma, or even a better coach with less talent, like Clemson, Wake Forest, or Georgia Tech.

"Give it up dude the fans are tired of SHannon's lies and failures. We need to pull a Minnasota and can shannon like they did Brewster who was a failure as well."
I will disagree there, midyear coaching changes don't work in college. If we make a change, it will have to be either well before or well after both the playing season and the recruiting season. March through June would be good.

Yep, and we have 5 of them, even with bad coaches like Erickson and Coker, so perhaps we can win one with Shannon as well. The Rangers are almost in the World Series, so miracles can happen.

BTW, folks asking if that is Latwan's actual text, it appears to be his facebook comments.

Yeah, he has a right to be pissed off. He is here based on what he thought was an improving team. Instead, he is seeing the problems INSIDE the system. If they aren't getting resolved, and he is being told to shut up, then yeah, back off, take the track scholarship, and get ready for when Randy (or whoever) is ready to work with you.

If your boss treated you like that, you would move on, so why should he have to sit through that?

FLORIDA GATORS RUN OUT OF GAS

Football News

By: Germaine Thomas—October 20, 2010

Gainesville, FL—Those weren’t Mississippi State cowbells you were hearing, it was the sound of Gator fans hitting their foreheads with ball-peen hammers as their way of celebrating Homecoming.

This past Saturday night a team motivated by sounds that help farmers locate slowing moving cows, who apparently has not yet heard of the forward pass, delivered the 3rd straight loss to the Gators at the Swamp, now forevermore known as the Cow Methane Pasture. Oddly, the methane was being produced by the Gator football players and coaches. That’s right, they stunk the joint up!

A number of questions were answered about the Gator football team. First, Urban Meyer’s offense without Tim Tebow is a darn good defense. All of those 5 star recruits that made Gator Nation feel large and in charge have begun to play and now the Nation feels puny and embarrassed. Those John Brantley Heisman Trophy posters are now lining the bottoms of bird cages. And the thought of being ranked in the top 3 had been adjusted to the top 10 and then the top25—and as of late Saturday night the goal is to stay in the top 50.

Unbelievably, the Gators could still qualify for the SEC Championship game. This can only be interpreted as a cruel pay back for all of those felony arrests. Chris Rainey is the new Gator poster boy for even the threat of murder doesn’t stop you from lining up on Saturday’s to play for the Mighty Gators, assuming you made bail Friday night.

One thing Gator Nation can point to with pride is Gator Athletic Director Jeremy Foley’ scheduling of only 4 away games this season while immersing in a number of cupcake games. Additionally Foley deserves kudos for steadfastly refusing to play the Miami Hurricanes. This…uh… astute decision insures one less humiliation for the top 50 Gators. Of course, Foley dropped the ball by not running and hiding from the Florida State Seminoles as this game will have the Gators ringing those cow bells and emitting methane like Elsie does after eating chili and drinking cold beer. In other words, the finely tuned excuse machine in Gainesville will be working overtime after this mauling.

Finally, it is clear that Timmy Tebow made up for an awful offensive scheme and brought life to teams that don’t seem to be motivated by their coaches. As Tebow’s taillights disappeared off into the sunset so did the Gators short stent as a team that was considered a national power.

Agree with Canes over Gators

Shannon made me sick when he said "Duke was a tough place to play" What the heck! What kind of stuff you been smoking Randy? The place is like a flippen high school field and there loaded with a bunch of 2 star players. You think it's a tough place to play cause you're sccared you'll get out coached. It's your job to make players believe they can run through a brick wall, that no team is envinsible, and no lead is safe, and any where we go and play they will remember how big and nasty the "U" is and that's the way it used to be. You go ahead and keep your palm on your chin, with that perplexed look and watch as the season goes down the toilet and all you had to do was be an a-hole and get these players fired up with passion to represent the "U". If you don't wake up so, you'll be in a recliner like us watching the game.

Mr. Hocutt, I believe you recently conducted a survey to see which teams we wanted as opponents. USC and Michigan were the winners of that survey. I don't see them on your up and coming list. Why?

I have a big problem with this Anderson thing. Why not get this guy some playing time? And do we really want him on defense?

I say give him a fast football chance. I bet Jimmy Johnson would. I bet Benny Blades would welcome him to the secondary.

The U must be careful with UNC. If RS loses this game, some changes MUST be made.

We have the team to beat FSU, but didn't.

That's the problem Cool Cat, we have more talent than anyone in the ACC. Fla. St had 4 returners on defense. We had at least 16 to 18 guys that started at some point last year on Dee and we couldn't stop them. Our O-line was the only question and for the most part they haven't played half bad. It's the play calling, the int's, the dropped passes, missed tackles and overall effort that doom us. The players have to be held somewhat responsible but ultimately it's up to the coaches to motivate and put the players on the field that can perform. I also realize that most of our staff has only been together a couple of years and it does make a difference, check Va. Tech out. Most of their staff has been together at least 20 years and how else can you explain their success because they defintely don't get the cream of the crop as far as stars go. They just simply out coach you.

This latest excuse for the Gators Chris Rainey threatening to murder a young girl is due to him having a concussion is by any standard the most transparent, absurd, ridiculous, insane, idiotic, slimy, contrived, moronic, stupid, misleading, whacko, inexcusable lie ever offered in an attempt to absolve a felon of any responsibility for his crime.

If anyone is wondering why the Gators arrest problem is only getting worse you have to look no further than this steaming dump truck load of horse manure they’ve floated as a defense for a football player.

This latest insanity encased in a lie courtesy of the powers to be of the Florida Gators proves they are simply not going to take steps to correct a very serious and ever growing crime wave sweeping the athletic department.

The NCAA should awaken from their slumber and come down sledgehammer hard on Foley, Meyer and company for allowing this to have happened in the first place and then making a mockery of the rules that govern society and college football by continuing to stage this off Broadway play, “The Bloods and Cripps” starring the Florida Gator football program.

"Did the Gators put those list of values up on a plaque next to TeMelons (Tebow) speech born from a loss? Or is it next to the "you have the right to remain silent" plaque?"

*********************************************************************************************

The above post is my hall of fame nominee as one of the best posts ever!

Canes over Gators, Hey bro I apologize, my bad. Saw the Gator thing and assumed it was that moron. Glad to see that U see the mess SHannon has gotten us in. But Erickson wasn't a bad coach it was the recruiting that he sucked at.

championships is all that matters;

After reading all of your daily moaning and crying I have only one question for you:

WHAT SIZE BRA DO YOU WEAR?

I think Hocutt's motive is to make big money of off marquee games and while nothing is wrong with that, it is kind of like throwing your team under the bus. There is a reason that the schools with deep pockets choose cream puff schedules.

2020? Where will we be then?

Manny,
Any truth to the comments Latwaan posted on Facebook?

What size pads do U need because u are certainly on your monthly cycle. It must be terrible being castrated. I'm still packin and you're still lackin. Later dummy

That's nice, I'd rather they meet in Basketball. Anyone else out there think Izzo would be a better FB coach than Shannon? Just saying

I with U, theres no doubt Izzo would outcoach that moron Shannon at his own game.

Randy Shannon is in the unenviable position of restructuring a program that many, who post on this log and other blogs, believe we enjoyed success because of the perception all of our players were thugs and renegades. And/or our head coaches prowled the sidelines like caged tigers growling and swiping their clawed paws at their players, coaches and officials.

This restructuring is a painful educational process that includes educating fans on the fact that times have changed and trying to recreate what occurred in the past in today’s environment is a ticket to probation, if not worse knowing those in the media and NCAA harbor a grudge against the Canes that they would desperately love to act on. To that point you have to look no further than the FIU game that broke out in a melee that paled in comparison to the melee that broke out in the press afterwards as they declared war against the “U” making the rest of the country wonder if there was even another team involved in the fight as FIU was never mentioned.

Florida is currently learning that even with so-called thugs it doesn’t guarantee winning. Further, in a world of political correctness, a world that now demands the NFL regulate how hard players can tackle one another and the media gets up in arms when players celebrate a hard hit, then you better know that change is upon us and if you don’t change you will be left behind or made insolvent.

The platform Randy is building will insure greatness for the Canes over the next 20 years. Many of the same people who are currently complaining the loudest are the very same people who screamed that due to Larry Coker the program was forevermore destroyed or best case scenario would take 10 years to rebuild. Yet today, these same people point to Nick Saban and other coaches as examples a to why Randy is such a failure because within a year or two they have turned their programs around. Ironically, these people who love to hate Randy, his coaches, the players and Donna Shalala and her administration conveniently fail to mention that Randy walked into a program by their own admission was crashing all around him, a program left for dead, where Saban and the others basically had talent and a solid program that required different schemes and not much more.

The Miami Hurricanes under Randy Shannon’s leadership will once again be ranked at the highest levels of college football. This will not be an easy ride as we are witnessing and like it or not will require more time that could equate to another year or two. During this restructuring period no matter how many facts you present to some or common sense thinking they are going to howl and demand everyone be fired, if not executed as they want instant gratification. I too want instant gratification, but those who have lived long enough and enjoyed life’s experiences know only too well this is not how the world works.

EXCLUSIVE:**MIAMI IS IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY** THEY ARE LOSING TOP FLIGHT RECRUITS IN THEIR OWN BACKYARD THAT ARE ALL DIE HARD CANES FANS. THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT THEY NOTICE THE SAME THINGS US FANS NOTICE ABOUT MIAMI. LOSING, NO PLAYER DEVELOPEMENT, LACK OF FIRE, ETC...MOCK MY WORDS_____IF WE LOSE BRIDGEWATER WE WILL PULL IN NOOO TOP FLIGHT RECRUITS THIS YEAR. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG AT THE U OF MIAMI AND IT STARTS WITH SHALALA. JACORY HAS LOST ALL CONVIDENCE AND PPL ARE BASHING THE NW CREW WHO CANT EXCEL AT MIAMI FOR SOME REASON. I GARENTEE U THO THAT THEY WOULD BE FIRST ROUND TALENT ELSEWHERE THO.

THE FANS WANT TO CUT TIES TO MIAMI NORTHWESTERN!!! U GUYS ARE ALL IDIOTS..UWANT TO CUT DOWN ON OUR HOMEGROWN TALENT TOO NOW!! MAYBE WE SHOULD RECRUIT IN WASHINGTON FROM NOW ON THEN. BRIDGEWATER IS A GOOD QB..HE HAS LIKE 15 TD PASSES AND 2 PICKS AND HES ATHLETIC.

THESE GUYS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE AT MIAMI BUT GUYS LIKE SAM SHIELDS, BRUCE JOHNSON, KENNY P., JAVARES JAMES ETC.. R ALL HAVING DECENT NFL CAREERS??? THE BEST IS NOT COMING OUT OF THESE PLAYERS AND THE SCHOOL IS HOLDING THEM BACK FROM PLAYING WITH SWAGGER BECUS THEY DNT WANT THE THUG IMAGE AND THATS SHALALA'S FAULT. THIS IS A SAD MOMENT FOR MIAMI AND THE FANS.

In 2020, Randy Shannon will still be rebuilding and be on his 9th Offensive Coordinator. Miami is a hard place to learn how to be a head coach.

When Shalala leaves Shannon will can summarily canned if the Won Loss hasn't improved and the Canes aren't contending for national titles.

"East Lansing is a tough place to play," quoth Shannon in 2020.

If they lose to UNC,they will be 4-3 and will probably end up with 4 or 5 losses for the season. Another mediocre year.

They need a top flight QB and lineman that don't get overpowered by Florida State or Wisconsin.

I think if Shannon doesn't produce at least a 10 game winner next season, he is toast.

Hire Leach. Even if they lose it will be entertaining.

Canes Fan,
Great speech, well written, but I been hearing that sermon for 4 years now. Instant gratification without thugs is impossible?, tell that to Saban. Sorry, I don't drink that kool aid anymore. Takes time, takes time, how many years we been hearing that sermon. Listen, there's nothing wrong with realizing that our system is broken and it doesn't have anything to do with the overuse excuse that we would have to bring in thugs to be successful.

Canes Fan - "The Miami Hurricanes under Randy Shannon’s leadership will once again be ranked at the highest levels of college football."

Can you offer any real facts that would back up that theory of yours? Just saying it doesn't make it so.

BoriCane76, man he is just living on broken hopes and dreams, Shannon walked into the same situation that Saban did at Bama. The biggest difference Saban can coach, recruit and lead a team to championships, and shannon can't do any of the three.

Thank U Moe, I too would like to hear these facts to back up Canes Fan's theory. Go ahead buddy we are all ears and eyes.

I was going to write something, but I had to walk 150 yards to my computer, so now I am unable to blog.

I would be happy to offer facts, but you and I both know you are not interested in facts only looking to diminish Randy, me and the program. Just as this person with the screen name... "championships is all that matters" ...has no interest in considering or thinking about others opinions or possibilities only his conclusions that everyone involved with the University from the administration, to the coaches, to the players are all no good and must be terminated.

But I’ll give it a try anyhow…

• Randy’s win loss record has gotten better each year for the last 3 years
• There has only been one arrest
• He is breaking in a new defensive coordinator who appears to be onto something and an offensive coordinator that is going through the sophomore year blahs.
• Over the last 3 years he has either signed or had a letter of intent signed by the nations #1 recruit
• This year he will be back to having UM players he recruited being once again drafted in the first round of the NFL draft
• Last year his QB was being considered a front runner for the Heisman Trophy before he fractured his thumb. This year the same QB is struggling as is the whole offense
• The secondary and entire defensive team already have more turnovers than the last two years combined
• While still needing work the kick-off coverage team has seen some improvement
• Berry has had 3 straight games where he rushed over 100 yards, with the rest of the carries spread out over a young running back corps, with Miller looking like a version of Barry Sanders
• Overall team speed has improved
• The defensive line has improved significantly with the arrival of the new defensive line coach displaying great technique, speed, agility and power over the previous years.
• Our Athletic Director has now reenergized the Notre Dame series, begged Florida to begin a home and away series which they balked at, signed Michigan State to a home and away series ad has us scheduled to play a game in the ‘new’ New York Yankees Stadium.
• The overall recruiting is miles better than it was with a stable of great young players who have already contributed and just today it appears the freshmen tight-end Cleveland will be seeing playing time and has been getting rave reviews in practice.
• Discipline is very apparent, which had all but disappeared and bode well for the future
• We have gone to 2 bowl games and this year with a little luck and a helluva lot of hard work will win the ACC and end up playing in a BCS Bowl Game
• A number of our players have been nominated for some of the most prestigious post season award, Bailey and Hankerson comes to mind
• Several times during the season our players have been named players of the week at their position in the ACC
• Our offensive line has dramatically cut down on sacks over previous years and with Seantrel and Linder and the other kid from Saint Thomas Aquinas this unit will only get better and could be the best offensive line in college football in a year or two

Well, there you have a ‘couple of areas of improvement…I am sure there are more, but knowing this is a exercise in futility concerning convincing you or the other guy that things are nowhere near as bad as you would like people to believe I will stop here.

Be well!

Go Canes!!!

Canes Fan - even if all the above were true (I'm not saying you are wrong) none of then guarantee elite status in the NCAA. Actually I do disagree with one point... J12 was never a valid Heisman contender - that was premature hype.

Ok wow 1st i think as far as gettign the talent level back to a top notch level shannon has done a great job. Second the questioning of randy isnt his ability to recruit its his coaching which after fsu loss where canes showed no emotion at all and got beat down is valid criticism. As for saban and meyer they had coaches prior to them that built up there talent bases. Say what u will mike shula did a great job recruiting at bama. Also ron zook at florida gave them national title talent. Which meyer used to win 2 national titles. Randy didnt have that luxary. I think we can now start to judge randy on his coaching though now that in his words they had the depth and talent to compete with anyone. As for msu on schedule im happy abou that yet another top notch opponent for miami. As for michigan and usc they have to be willing to do home and homes. Usc usually likes to do 2 and 1 and michigan hasnt shown a penchant for scheduling anyone other then nd outside of conference whose any good. So its not always miamis fault if others wont play us. Schools know randy is rebuilding the talent here in south florida and that in the coming years miami will be a tough team to beat. Is randy the coach to lead this team to a national title i dont know i think he deserves 1 more year at least to prove if he can or cant.

As I said...you have made up your mind to hate Randy, the players, administration and the facts are not going to change your mind. I've seen this crowd behavior throughout my lifetime and once it gets started it feeds on itself and in this instance as in most other instances it will do more damage than good.

You are already reading where the current players are seperating themselves from the fans and have taken to saying they will succeed despite the fans. You are also witnessing where recruits are saying how uncool they think the savaging of Jacory has been, but that's not even going to get the hardcore haters to even pause for one moment to consider the message as to what these kids are really saying to you and others.

Here's the deal, once it is no longer hip to be a Cane as far as the recruits are concerned (and in my view we are there) is the very instant the party is over for the "U's" football program.

Anyhow as they say you've got to do what you've got to do...but let me ask you one question...do you really think that by you and others from our miniscule fan base screaming fire Randy Shannon (which is NEVER going to happen for at least the next few years) is good for the recruits to read, thus signaling the program is a disaster?

Go Canes...beat Carolina!

This program is about to go into serious decline.

Recruits don't want to come here and we can't develop talent. This is going to seriously hinder our ability to win against the major programs.

Get ready for another rebuilding project.

Canesjunkie, you and the others are not getting it--there's not going to be another rebuilding project!

The players/recruits are disgusted with how the Canes fan base is slamming Randy and Jacory and as LeBron said; they are going to take their talents elsewhere.

The one and only reason the Canes have the history they do is back in the day recruits thought it would be cool to come to Miami, a school that had never won anything and do something special--there was no tradition, those cats decided to come make history, thus tradition!

Today's recruits and current players are starting to say the opposite of those early Canes screaming at the top of their lungs that they do not like the fan base any longer--hello--are you not getting this and the damage you and the other haters are creating????

Of course it doesn't matter what facts are presented to you as you are going to continue with your hate rants, which will become a self fulfilling prophecy...the ole catch 22...the more than fans complain, the worse the program becomes and the fans complain and hate more and the program becomes worse, the fans hate and complain, the program becomes even worse...soon---NO PROGRAM!!!

Im upset that the team and school I love has become a joke in college football. The idiots the post over at lamespace aren't any better. I'm going to root for a real team with a real coach...see ya.

I think we are starting to turn the corner and with the home and home series with Michigan State - it just proves it. We are back in 2020! I wish I had my delorean to go and see the game.

Hey Canes Fan what are you a personal friend of Donna Shalala? I mean you seem to speak like your word is law. I personally know several Hurricane alumni besides myself who contribute greatly to the university and it's athletic programs and they are tired of this team continuing to fail. As we speak there are many donors who are much more powerful and influential than any of us are and they are letting Donna know in no uncertain terms that this is unacceptable and that changes need to be made if this ship is not righted ASAP. So for you to come out and say that there is no chance that Shannon is going to get fired in the next few years shows how little you know about the inner workings of this program. You have a right to give your opinion and support randy if you like but don't come on this board and make false statements about what is going on because it makes everything else that you say lack credibility. That's all I have to say.

WE ARE TRULY THE DOOM AND GLOOM HURRICANE FANS...ALWAYS COMPLAINING, WHINNING AND TALKING NEGATIVE. THAT IS WHY I HOPE SHANNON WINS THE REST OF HIS GAMES....I WANT HIM TO DO THAT SO WE CAN SEPERATE THE RACES PEOPLE, HATERS AND JUST PLAIN NEGATIVE FOLKS FROM THIS FANBASE. wHEN WE WIN AND YOU STILL ARE TALKING MESS THEN YOU ARE REALLY NOT FOR MIAMI..YOU'RE JUST A BLABBERING FOOL.

Tell U what since U guys are so confident in your boy SHannon and I am so confident that he is not the great coach that U speak of, I tell you dummies what put YOur word on the line. IF Shannon beats a depleted UNC team by 30 or more which they should, Blows every other team out on their schedule by at least 20 pts including FSU in the ACC title game as well as whoever the BIG East sends to the orange bowl, and then next year Shannon has to win the National Title, then and only then will I quit bashing Shannon. Plus I will come on here and tell everyone U guys were right and I was wrong. But if he so much as slips just one game then U guys have to come on here and admit that Canes JUnkie, VOS, MOE, Tim and of coarse yours truely, were correct and that SHannon is just what we say he is and that is a complete failure. I am confident and got my sac full the question is do you guys have any balls in your sac's.
