Good morning.
It appears that the biggest concern, quite literally, for UM this week will be the left tackle position.
Senior Orlando Franklin was hurt in the fourth quarter of the North Carolina game, and he was limping pretty badly at practice this morning. He has a hard black brace over his left knee, with his left ankle and outside back end of his shoe wrapped heavily.
Franklin couldn't practice, and we're not sure what, exactly, is injured. Ankle? Knee? Orlando has worn the brace before. He also has worn one before on his right knee.
For fans who love watching young Seantrel Henderson do his thing at right tackle, today he took the place of Franklin at left tackle. Jermaine Johnson was playing first-team right tackle.
"He’s getting some reps. You’ve got to prepare for everything,'' said center Tyler Horn of the 6-8, 355-pound Henderson. Horn earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week for his performance against North Carolina. "Crazy things happen in games. Anything can happen. You always have to be prepared. It’s one of those quality-control type deals."
Guard Joel Figueroa was not at practice in the beginning but was seen in street clothes at the end of it. He has missed three games in a row.
--SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN

The future starts now for our young O-line. Let's set the tone Mr. Henderson.

Open your eyes and see that most fans don't want Shannon. I'm sorry if this is news to you, but it just goes to show you don't attend games.

Don't attend games? You, yourself said you did not even watch the North Carolina game much less attend. Do you really think anyone thinks your a Cane fan?

Didn't see the game but the score says enough. Hope they can keep it up.

Look familiar?

To have the confidence to put Seantrel at blind side tackle says alot. This kid is going to be something special.

CONSISTENCY. Great job Canes. Still can't say enough about the intensity. Let's string a few of those games right on to the ACC Championship. Great defense IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD Sat. Finally. I am still horse from the game for trying to get more tight-end usuage. Not 84, not 9, but No. 82. That dude has the same build as Winslow, but he is also a great route runner like Shockey. He is also consistent like Olson. Nice effort Cleveland. Keep the troops fired-up!! Go Canes!! CANE 4 LIFE

Frankin was hurt while the game was no longer in doubt. There was not reason to have the starters in there at that point. This injury could and should have been avoided.

Don't let up now Canes. This is usually the time of year when we suffer a loss and our season tanks. Keep the intensity and focus up and win football games. The fans are behind you....go get it done...ACCCG or bust.

Time for the big guy to do his thang. Go get em Seantrel.
Posted by: TheSergeantMajor | October 26, 2010 at 11:14 AM
I've been around football long enough to know when a team is starting to take a turn...I don't know what happened last week, and I don't care BUT I know it worked, so keep it up...with VT, Spence, and Brandon in charge we'll be ok...
Posted by: ted | October 26, 2010 at 11:20 AM
Big Sentrel, Harland Gunn, Horn, Washington and J Johnson...then Ben Jones, Malcolm Bunch, Linder and McDermont on as reserves...great depth there even with Fig and Franklin out..Kudos to Shannon for building that depth...we'll be fine on the O-line...
Posted by: canesallltheway | October 26, 2010 at 11:48 AM
I agree canezfan, Why were any of the starters still in with 4 minutes to go. Franklins probably going to be out a couple of weeks and you might as well red-shirt Figs. The O-Line will be really tough next year.

Notice to Recruits. Shannon does not lie about your opportunity.Love the Big O but Seantrell is a beast. Say good bye to him in 2 1/2 more years. Always a method to Randy's recruiting.

The offensive line played well.
Big test will be coming up when we play Virginia Tech. As usual they are in the mix of things. Currently, they are 4 wins and 0 losses in conference play. Georgia Tech is 3 wins, 2 losses in conference play. The Hurricanes are 3 wins, 1 loss in conference play. The big test for the offensive line will come with these matches coming up.
Posted by: worried hurricane | October 26, 2010 at 12:48 PM
Without a doubt our focus should be to run the ball down Virginia's throat. That will set up our play action pass game and allow us to throw downfield. Hope whipple is smart enough to realize this.

Now for my weekly plea...
Install the Wildcat Formation.
Thank you.
PS: This is especially important should we run into a sloppy field or windy day or a combination of both during our final games.

Always a method to Randy's recruiting.
Haha not to knock you or Randy, but there wasn't any method to this one. He's a beast , everyone knew it, and Lane Kiffin could only keep his lie up for so long. We got a little lucky, but who cares he's a Cane now
Seantrel is the man, bought my orange #77 jersey before the FSU game and plan to rock that on gameday for years to come
Posted by: mark | October 26, 2010 at 04:04 PM
I think maryland will be a tougher test then gt. Gt has issues on offense in games ive seen. Teams with speed can stop them . Miami has that speed. They dont have a fb anymore to run people over like they did with dwyer so the power part of the triple option is non existent its basicly the qb and rb now. vt will tough. The reason they lost to a fcs schoo was they played on 4 days rest after a tough monday loss to bsu. If they had been able to play the fcs school on normal rest they win easily.

I'm happy for Telemaque. I'm picturing Benny Blades in his ear right now. But, somebody MUST take charge of the DL. How are the long runs happening?
RS is a good recruiter. The jury hasn't come back on his coaching abilities. Keep it up VT, but do even better against UVA. And maybe, just maybe, UR teammates will get some motivation from U. And don't be scared to talk those receivers down and frickin' intimidate them, just like Blades used to do.
Now, who's starting at tight end Saturday? Anybody know? Anybody seen Chase?
Posted by: Cool Cat | October 26, 2010 at 06:25 PM
I know i have bashed Telemaque on here before but the kid is finally starting to step his game up and i was so happy when i saw on T.V. him getting in Whipple face and yelling at him for coming out with that same B.S. playing calling that he came out with against FSU at the begining of the UNC game. Dude might be trying to get Shannon fired or he cant pertect Jacory because when he does. It hurts the offense. The next 2 weeks are cake walk teams and Lamar Miller desperately needs more carries. We have been missing that kid the past 2 weeks. LETS GO HEAT!!!
Posted by: Sporty-j | October 26, 2010 at 06:55 PM
This is where the negative come out this game. Most of everyone is missing the point here. The main starters were in the game during the fourth quater like last weeks Duke game. In these last two games, when we had control, I was blogging live during the games with Manny & other bloggers saying why are the starters in the game late of the 4th quarter. People are not looking at this serious right now & when Horn, Berry, Hank, or Seantrel gets hurt during one of these games late quaters it will be bad. In the 4th quat if we have control, it will be a big issue during that time and reporter will be having a field day with this topic. Someone needs to get this message to the coaches (Not just Randy)now before to late. Its getting to late in the season & with bowl games around the corner, it is not a good time to be playing Russian Roulette. Manny & I was pushing this issue on the blogs. I know we have back ups at line right now, but why risk a starter. This is crazy & its only the beginning. Im getting my fussing out now.
Posted by: B Dot | October 26, 2010 at 07:03 PM
Gotta agree B Dot, The back ups should have been in after the score became 33-10 but when the season has been like it has, I also understand not taking a Win for granted. The Duke game wasn't sealed until very late in the 4th qtr though so there wasn't a whole lot of work for the backups to get in that game. But I do feel Whipple or Highsmith along with the other backups could and should have gotten more work in the UNC game.
