Rogers decommits, could Bridgewater be next?

Miami Northwestern receiver Eli Rogers told me Wednesday his dream is to spend the next four years catching passes from his best friend Teddy Bridgewater. Now, it looks like that might no longer happen -- at least at the University of Miami.

Teddy Bridgewater Sunday, the 3-star receiver told Canesport.com that he has decommitted from the Hurricanes and he's reopening the recruiting process.

"I'm open to any colleges that want to talk," Rogers told Canesport. "Coaches know about [the decommitment]. They said they can understand my reasoning and that they're still recruiting me and still see me the same. I told them I just want to open back up my options and they said they're cool with it."

No word yet on whether Bridgewater, one of the nation's top high school quarterbacks and the only QB in UM's 2011 signing class (at the moment), will do the same.

On Wednesday, when I drove to Northwestern and spent about two hours watching practice, Bridgewater told me he was still planning on being a Hurricane. But he also said he was a bit disappointed by the Florida State loss and what he's seen from UM's offense this season. He also admitted he's been having second thoughts about his commitment.

"I’ve been paying close attention," said Bridgewater, who went to the UM-FSU game. "The season is going good so far. But it could be better. They have to improve in some areas.

"More can be done in the offense. I paid attention to the Florida State game. Third and 10, Third and 8, they came out unbalanced. I’m just asking myself 'What’s going on? Why aren’t they opening the offense at this point of the game?'"

Bridgewater also said he's been paying close attention to the way Jacory Harris has been struggling and the way he's been criticized by fans and the media.

"I’ve been paying close attention to that," Bridgewater said. "That’s the one thing that stands out. It’s something to think about. The way he’s playing, the way he’s been treated, everything. He’s playing good. The wide outs have to help him also. I talked to coach. He said the past five games the wide receivers have dropped 30 passes. That will bring a quarterback’s confidence down.

"Everywhere I look, everyone on TV, the internet, everybody is dogging Jacory. That’s something I really don’t like because he comes from the same school I play at. He’s my role model. Seeing that, seeing him go through that it makes me wonder do I want to go through the same thing. It upsets me a lot. It upsets the coaching staff, the alumni, everybody at Miami Northwestern.

"People need to keep the faith, don’t give up, don’t give up on Jacory or the team."

Bridgewater said he thinks the biggest thing Harris needs is competition.

"From what I’ve seen, I would like to come in and play – or push Jacory at least," Bridgewater said. "I think that’s the one thing he’s missing. I think he feels like he has no one there to push him. He might be a little relaxed or something. That’s one role I’d like to play."

Bridgewater said a number of schools have continued to recruit him over the past few months including the University of Florida, South Florida, Louisville, LSU and Michigan.

"All of them want me as a quarterback," said Bridgewater, who at times has been dubbed by some recruiting analysts as a better receiver than passer. "I’m paying attention to everything. It’s like the whole recruiting process is rebuilding. At one point, I thought it was over. Now, more teams are showing interest."

Stay tuned. I'm guessing this story is far from over.

EXCLUSIVE:MIAMI IS IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY. THEY ARE LOSING TOP FLIGHT RECRUITS IN THEIR OWN BACKYARD THAT ARE ALL DIE HARD CANES FANS. THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT THEY NOTICE THE SAME THINGS US FANS NOTICE ABOUT MIAMI. LOSING, NO PLAYER DEVELOPEMENT, LACK OF FIRE, ETC...MOCK MY WORDS_____IF WE LOSE BRIDGEWATER WE WILL PULL IN NOOO TOP FLIGHT RECRUITS THIS YEAR. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG AT THE U OF MIAMI AND IT STARTS WITH SHALALA. JACORY HAS LOST ALL CONVIDENCE AND PPL ARE BASHING THE NW CREW WHO CANT EXCEL AT MIAMI FOR SOME REASON. I GARENTEE U THO THAT THEY WOULD BE FIRST ROUND TALENT ELSEWHERE THO.

THE FANS WANT TO CUT TIES TO MIAMI NORTHWESTERN!!! U GUYS ARE ALL IDIOTS..UWANT TO CUT DOWN ON OUR HOMEGROWN TALENT TOO NOW!! MAYBE WE SHOULD RECRUIT IN WASHINGTON FROM NOW ON THEN. BRIDGEWATER IS A GOOD QB..HE HAS LIKE 15 TD PASSES AND 2 PICKS AND HES ATHLETIC.

THESE GUY HAE GOTTEN WORSE AT MIAMI BUT GUYS LIKE SAM SHIELDS, BRUCE JOHNSON, KENNY P., JAVARES JAMES ETC.. R ALL HAVING GOOD NFL CAREERS??? THE BEST IS NOT COMING OUT OF THESE PLAYERS AND THE SCHOOL IS HOLDING THEM BACK FROM PLAYING WITH SWAGGER BECUS THEY DNT WANT THE THUG IMAGE AND THATS SHALALA'S FAULT. THIS IS A SAD MOMENT FOR MIAMI AND THE FANS

Everybody has an opinion. These 2 young men have a right to theirs. They are good HS players, period. No guarantee they can even play here. If they come good luck to them. If not it was not meant to be. If you are a HS player now, chances are you do not know who Kelly, Bernie, The Blades, Edge and others were; well you heard the names. These kids hear and look up to a different generation of Canes...far cry from the old days. They have to do what is right for them, not us. Seeing the overall condition and position of the program, at 17 or 18 I can see where doubt exists. There are more attractive situations available now, exciting programs going places, not mired in the Top 25 to 45 programs. The school has backed off of football, many kids who want to play here cannot make it grade-wise. It is a tough position right now, we can only wait and see.

Teddy and Eli, not all of us canes fans hate Jacory or Shannon. Some of us see the dropped passes that could result in TD's, first downs, or a 65% completion rate. Some of us also realize that Jacory doesn't call the plays, the OC does! So, if hes' launching the ball down field and there is actually a receiver there it must be because that's the play he's been given to run. Some of us realize that if he's running around for his life, and the defense doesn't respect the run, it's not his fault.
Take a look at the games on Sunday and see how many players are from the U. Do you really think you can go anywhere else and get the same exposure as you'd get at the U? Don't like what you're seeing out of the offense? Come make the difference. The U is the pipeline to the NFL, don't miss the chance.
It's all up to U.

GO WITH VIRGINIA TECH. Next year they DEF. have a chance at the NC with a good QB on their hands, they'll have Evans, Williams, Wilson and Ogelsby running for you, you can be a receiver and get passes from your HS best friend, who would replace Logan Thomas, DO IT. Virginia Tech needs a national champinship trophy and you guys just may lead them there. Miami is going nowhere despite what the angry fans say, Tech has the best fans in Football. They will travel ANYWHERE for ANYGAME in the tens of thousands.

First off, Miami needs a new orange bowl and they need to get a president who supports the teams and the city. Next, Fans have a right to be critical but not to the point that they are causing the loss of confidence. You can be constructive in your criticism but the fans have turned into a negative recruiting tool that schools like UF and FSU are going to use against us. Ask why but don't Hate. When a team plays bad your more then welcome to question but at all times have faith in the players. The season is not over. Ohio St and USC built their teams on winning their conference every year. If you play in a BCS game every year because you win the conference a by product will be a shot at the National Title. You can't only see the National Title race and get angry and spit venom all over your team for ONLY winning the ACC and playing in the Orange bowl. If Miami wins 4 or 5 ACC titles like Ohio St and USC did then Miami will get a shot at the National Title sooner or later. And before you call for a coaches head let the season play out and support your team as a real 'Cane fan. You can call for his firing after the season is over but don't kill the season only 6 games into it and the ACC title still on the line and the Orange Bowl still on the line. Come on fans, If we support this team we can win our division and get a shot at FSU and a BCS game and the recruits will follow. Finally, I don't like when a kid is scared of criticism but he is a KID and only like 17 yrs old and also has the right to think about what he wants. Everyone knows anywhere you go you will get criticized when you play bad. That being said there Miami is a pressure cooker and we expect the best. I hope he comes here, but if not I also wish him the best being from my home town I support all my Miami boys (unless they become gators or noles haha jk).

P.S. There are still 'Canes fans who believe in this team and believe that we can still do a lot of good. We win out we will have a 10 win season, We will have a shot at FSU, We can win the ACC, We can play in the Orange Bowl, which is a BCS game worth millions last time I checked and if people who just think for a second we could have an awesome recruiting class with all the prospect still uncommitted. So, I am asking all the fans who keep trash talkin Miami to just calm down a little bit. Even if we lose again let the season play its self out and stay positive. If you look at the best teams in the nation one thing they all have in common is a believe that even when things go wrong they have a chance to make a change and still believe in their season and team.

What's all the freaking out about? I mean what did fans, coaches etc. expect? The "U" has beaten Duke, FAMU, Pitt (who is terrible) and an overrated Clemson team who just lost their third game of the season to the "U"s next apponent N. Carolina. All the while getting whooped by Ohio State and Florida State. No recruit is going to commit to a program whose football team is playing the way the "U" is. If the "U" fails to meet everyone's expectations this year and not make the ACC Championship game then what top flight recruit will want to come here? Not to many. Lets face it. With N. Carolina, G. Tech and V. Tech still on the schedule, going 3-0 against those teams looks nearly impossible. Hope I am wrong.

As true Canes fans we have to keep the faith. Bridgewater is exactly what J12 needs a youngster to challenge him. The offense will be fine, no body was complaining to much last when we started 3-1. We flat out got beat by FSU, OSU we did give them that game. We are going to get there. Teddy and Eli if you are true CANES you know where you belong and we need you to help get us back to the top.

Go Columbus....

Well, RoboCane, judging by what you guys have been saying there isn't much reason for them to go to Coral Gables.

How about no more QB's from northwestern. Lets'get back to finding QB's like the old days.

UM really...I mean really need to keep Bridgewater mainly for recruiting purposes (I believe Bridgewater is a good player too). Remember these players are young adults. They want to go to a university that's winning and bringing in other top recruits. The recruits keep up with who's going where and did this guy commit and so forth. So, if they lose TB it would hurt but not kill them. UM should go after 2 more QBs anyway. Coach, please don't put all your eggs in one basket (it's called insurance). Honestly, I think UM had some really good players. Recently the transfers and decommits may or may not have wanted to compete but we don't know the entire story and saying they're scared of competition seems to be the logical bellout answer. Some players you have to be cultivate and some players are mentally ready to compete but as a coach you have to know your players and adjust accordingly. I said that to say, Coach Shannon is a good coach but he has to learn that this is a new era and todays recruits are not the same as it was back in the day. The players are in S Florida. UM have to change their recruits tactics and philophy a tad bit to bring in and retain recruits.

Recruits come and recruits go, but my miami hurricanes stay eternal.

U/M does not need wimps like Eli Rodgers who can't stand criticism or news articles that might be critical of him or his team. Eli is a quitter. The U does not need quitters they need leaders. Every player should go to a college with the thought of making it better in their sport. There are thousands of high school players that would love to be recruited by the U and given a scholorship to play for them. No player is an island. The main unifying word in every sport is TEAM. There is no place in any sport for the words ME or I. I guess Eli is a ME or an I. An integral part of every sport is being able to take criticism where it is deserved. Fans pay good money to see a sporting events like football and expect players to play their hearts out. If not the players and coaches deserve to be criticized by both the media and the fans. I think Eli did the U a favor. Let some other college offer this quitter a scholarship.

I'm glad that bum decommited , hopefully teddy's next. Then we can go out to Cali an get a real QB ! Somebody that can throw more the ten yards without it floating up for grabs. Somebody with more HEART then these boy's. Northwestern ain't SH_T !

i was reading bridgewater comment today and im so sick and tierd of this punks who think that their good and then they laid a moose egg...if u dont want to come here ... then get your sorry ass elsewhere punk....it sounds like you are another JH...we need winners not loosers....

I 'd hate to run into the biological children of UM Fans. I bet they are a bundle of nerves. U Fans claim to love the school therefore U find it necessary to degrade anyone affiliated that does not live up to your standards. I'm sure you love your own flesh and blood a million times more than you love the program. It's safe to surmise if Jr. makes an error, Big Daddy is all up in that mug (spit flying and veins popping) telling him how he's disgracing the family.
I got an idea UM Ballers on what to do with that "free" (forget all the physical trauma U endure week in and week out) education that these "Kill-The-Coach" fans like to refer to--study psychiatry then open a practice in the Greater Miami area. You'll make a fortune in no time with all the business you'll get from the children of these rabid, hate-spewing UM fans. But take heed....cover your couch in plastic 'cause these sad-sack offsprings are going to be a nervous, dingo dog-like, pissy mess.

Well, the truth is the truth. The media's job is to report the truth, not sugar-coat it and say everything is okay. That is what the Nazis did and look where it got them.

I don't hold it against the kids at Miami NW. They don't know anything about anything. This is where teachers and parents have to guide them. Good luck with that happening.

If the kids are not coming because the team, facilities, administration, and coaching suck then who can blame them?

If you are blaming it on the media, you got a lot to learn. if you think its different any where in like you lost your mind.

JulesFIU07, I stick by what I said. I really dont care where they go. Criticism will exist wherever they go. I will not be caught hanging on every word of some 17 year old who gets offended by alumni/fan criticism.

I was just laughing at the juggernaut part. lol

RoboCane, I am pretty sure people thought the same way about BSU.

In response to Rogers' decommitment, NW recruits haven't done Jack outside of Spence. The Canes need to start cherry picking the best player from NW, Central, St. Thomas, Booker T, Columbus, Norland, Carol City, South Ridge, Homestead, Killian, South Dade, Miramar, Dillard, Hialeah, Palmetto, Gulliver, etc & build a winner like they did in the old days. The NW project is a failure & we need the fusion of the past. That's the way Schnellenberger, Johnson, & Butch did it & that's the way we'll have to do it if we want to do it again.

Soft kids - they are not the tough kids from the hood that Miami used to get... these kids are watching Spongebob Squarepants after getting killed by VT - losing and watching cartoons... yes, I see why you would say they are hard core....

There seems to be a lot of extra pressure on the kids from Miami, playing for the U now a days. They didn't have that back in the day, because the U was always winning. It's plain and simple...WIN, and these kids will be put on a pedastal. LOSE, and the fans are going to be throwing you under the bus. It happens everywhere. If a kid can't take the pressure, and perform on the field at this level than I would rather not have em here anyways!

Who really cares if these two go elsewhere???? Northwestern players are hit or miss anyway....Fortson (miss), Johnson (miss), Spence (is ok), Streeter (TBD), Thompkin (TBD), and Jacory is "Jacory"....

At what point do we allow "verbal commits" determine how a college football program is to be run? This is beyond ridiculous and some of the comments are just as bad.

It amazes me on how soon we forget how bad things really were on offense when Patrick Nix was running the show. Mark Whipple has done a lot for this offense and yet people want to blame him for it. Wait a minute, is it not the receivers dropping good throws from Jacory? What about the poor throws and poor decisions made by Jacory?

At some point, one has to look at player development. Jacory throws a very catchable pass and has all the physicals tools and demeanor to be very succesful at Miami. He [Jacory] is in the perfect offensive set for his skill set. However, Jacory has failed to grow in the mental aspect of the position. Reading defenses, throwing to the flat, and using check down receivers instead of primary receivers.

If one takes a real close look it is plain to see that until Harris grows his game in the mental aspect of the position. This team will continue to be a 9-3 type of team. A team that shows flashes of brilliance, but never quite lives up to it.

Stop blaming Randy Shannon and Mark Whipple. It is not all their fault. Stop letting "commits" run the program and focus on what we have.

What is absolutely hilarious is that UCG settled on Randy Shannon, he was not the first, second or third choice for the AD and Shalala....ohhh until he (blackmailed) everyone into hiring him because he could get all the Blue Chip inner-city players in the Miami Metro area...

So what's next ? He got many of those kids in the last 3 years, they SUCK and he cannot coach...What now ?

The University of Coral Gables outside of the minds of all you loser wanna-be CANE ALUMs that barely obtained a GED, has got to be one of the least desirable head coaching jobs in America.

Do any of you realize how ridiculous it is talk about National Championships every year when you lose multiple conference games each season?

Why would any recruit want to play for that Communication Train Wreck BUFFOON.

Donna: CUT YOUR LOSSES and SHUT DOWN FOOTBALL.

Has anyone asked why "recruit a spread QB when you run a pro set"? That is the question. It simply makes no sense. It is difficult to guage the transition.

Wow... They haven't even reached um yet and already these ( High School!!) players are being bashed

Eat would u do... I'd decommit

Can't see the reason why we keep bashing every QB that comes thru this program. The problem isn't these kids, it's the way they have been developed. This program has needed a good QB's coach for years now. Does anyone seriously think that Berlin, Wright, Feeman, Marve, and Harris all totally sucked as players BEFORE they got here? Does anyone doubt that all might have done just fine somewhere else where they were properly coached? The bottom line is that this coaching staff doesn't develop players at all.It hasn't for YEARS now. Players REGRESS here, and it's not just QB's. Look at some of our kids that didn't get drafted by the pros but signed as free agents with teams in the NFL. Some of these kids are STARTING now. Coker was such a dumb*** that he couldn't figure out WHAT to do with Devin Hester for God's sake! The Bears sure found a niche for him easily enough!

We need to send a message to this administration and its athletic program: SPEND THE DAMNED MONEY AND GET DECENT COACHES! If we need a fund drive to do so, JUST DO IT! Why spend money on extensions to stiffs that will eventually have to be fired anyway?

Get out now, Teddy. The I owns the U. The I is on the rise!
