Washington, Telemaque named ACC players of week

The Canes' 28-13 win over Duke may not have been a fine work of art, but two of their players are being recognized for their performances. Sophomore offensive guard Brandon Washington and safety Vaughn Telemaque earned ACC Player of the Week honors Monday.

Washington anchored a Miami offense that recorded a season-best 448 yards and did not allow a sack. As the Hurricanes’ starting right guard, Washington graded out at 97 percent while recording seven pancake blocks against the Blue Devils.

Telemaque had two interceptions to lead a Miami defense that forced five interceptions and two fumbles. Telemaque also had six tackles for the UM defense, which is tied for second nationally in turnovers gained among BCS schools. It is the ninth time this season that an ACC player has claimed multiple interceptions in a single game.

North Carolina receiver Dwight Jones earned Offensive Back of the Week honors. Jones had seven receptions for 198 yards and two touchdowns (all career highs) in Carolina’s 44-10 victory at Virginia. It was the Tar Heels’ first win at UVA since 1981. Jones, who had 119 receiving yards in the first quarter, had touchdown catches of 81 and 20 yards. He also had a 54-yard reception to the 1-yard line, which led to another TD. Carolina scored on its first play from scrimmage when Yates connected with Jones on an 81-yard touchdown strike. Jones’ 198 yards receiving rank as the fifth-highest single-game total in school history.

Two sophmores getting it done for The U!

That's right. 2 sophomores. There are a lot of positives onthis team. Dontlet the naysayers tell you otherwise.

This is a name we need to make noise about:

St Thomas QB Rudock. He is the real deal. Pro style QB with a good arm andf appears to have a good head onhis shoulders.

CAne coaches: Recruit him Pleeeeeeeeease!

recruit Rudock.com recruit Rudock.com

VT is a turning into a ball hawk and the O-Line is looking stout for years to come.

Now lets beat the agent money out of UNC!!!

Yeah BW and VT! Great to see these two young men developing into damn good football players. I'm a big BW fan. Let's have a great 2nd half boys!! ACC championship and OB here we come!!

Lizard. They know about Rudock. He's committed to Iowa (I think).

Their losing South Florida kids to Iowa....jes.

Great job guys.

Yeah, Shannon wanted Bridgewater instead. I guess that says all we need to know about Shannon. what a LOSER

EXCLUSIVE:MIAMI IS IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY. THEY ARE LOSING TOP FLIGHT RECRUITS IN THEIR OWN BACKYARD THAT ARE ALL DIE HARD CANES FANS. THE PROBLEM HERE IS THAT THEY NOTICE THE SAME THINGS US FANS NOTICE ABOUT MIAMI. LOSING, NO PLAYER DEVELOPEMENT, LACK OF FIRE, ETC...MOCK MY WORDS_____IF WE LOSE BRIDGEWATER WE WILL PULL IN NOOO TOP FLIGHT RECRUITS THIS YEAR. THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG AT THE U OF MIAMI AND IT STARTS WITH SHALALA. JACORY HAS LOST ALL CONVIDENCE AND PPL ARE BASHING THE NW CREW WHO CANT EXCEL AT MIAMI FOR SOME REASON. I GARENTEE U THO THAT THEY WOULD BE FIRST ROUND TALENT ELSEWHERE THO.

THE FANS WANT TO CUT TIES TO MIAMI NORTHWESTERN!!! U GUYS ARE ALL IDIOTS..UWANT TO CUT DOWN ON OUR HOMEGROWN TALENT TOO NOW!! MAYBE WE SHOULD RECRUIT IN WASHINGTON FROM NOW ON THEN. BRIDGEWATER IS A GOOD QB..HE HAS LIKE 15 TD PASSES AND 2 PICKS AND HES ATHLETIC.

THESE GUY HAE GOTTEN WORSE AT MIAMI BUT GUYS LIKE SAM SHIELDS, BRUCE JOHNSON, KENNY P., JAVARES JAMES ETC.. R ALL HAVING GOOD NFL CAREERS??? THE BEST IS NOT COMING OUT OF THESE PLAYERS AND THE SCHOOL IS HOLDING THEM BACK FROM PLAYING WITH SWAGGER BECUS THEY DNT WANT THE THUG IMAGE AND THATS SHALALA'S FAULT. THIS IS A SAD MOMENT FOR MIAMI AND THE FANS

There is also another factor as to why Shannon took Bridgewater over anyone else, but we won't get in to that here.

First off, Miami needs a new orange bowl and they need to get a president who supports the teams and the city. Next, Fans have a right to be critical but not to the point that they are causing the loss of confidence. You can be constructive in your criticism but the fans have turned into a negative recruiting tool that schools like UF and FSU are going to use against us. Ask why but don't Hate. When a team plays bad your more then welcome to question but at all times have faith in the players. The season is not over. Ohio St and USC built their teams on winning their conference every year. If you play in a BCS game every year because you win the conference a by product will be a shot at the National Title. You can't only see the National Title race and get angry and spit venom all over your team for ONLY winning the ACC and playing in the Orange bowl. If Miami wins 4 or 5 ACC titles like Ohio St and USC did then Miami will get a shot at the National Title sooner or later. And before you call for a coaches head let the season play out and support your team as a real 'Cane fan. You can call for his firing after the season is over but don't kill the season only 6 games into it and the ACC title still on the line and the Orange Bowl still on the line. Come on fans, If we support this team we can win our division and get a shot at FSU and a BCS game and the recruits will follow.

“I’m firm, but I’m still open to whoever wants to recruit me,” Bridgewater told me over the phone...

Sounds like the kid went to the Coach Shannon school of BS reasoning ?

FIRM ! but open huh Teddy ?

Recruitrudock.com

SCREW THIS PLAYERS THEY SUCK I AM NOT SUPPORTING A TEAM THAT GETS A BEAT DOWN FROM FSU. FOR THOSE WHO KEEP HOPING THAT WE WIN THE ACC THIS YEAR. UR ONLY FOOLING YOURSELF. MIAMI IS GETTING A BEAT DOWN SATURDAY.. QUIT SUGAR COATING THIS.. LETS FIRE RANDY SHANNON TAKE OUT J12 AND LETS MOVE FORWARD....AND I U THINK I AM NOT A BIG CANE SUPPORTER, YOUR WRONG.. LETS GO CANES

Its a verbal commitment. Everyone is Firm but Open at this point. Its not even Jan 2011 yet. Because getting mad at a kid is going to make him sign so much fast, I mean come on already and think about it. You catch more bee's with honey then vinegar. Let him look around, that way when he commits we know he is doing it for the right reasons and really wants to be a 'Cane.

Then quit spitting venom all over your team, If you go on Ohio States web site they aren't killing the QB and the team because they got punched in the mouth by Wisconsin. Alabama got punched in the mouth by South Carolina they didnt call for their coaches head. But for some reason two weeks ago Miami fans were riding high and going to win the ACC and kick FSU's butt. Then we got punched in the mouth and everyone (fans and players) started to cry instead of fighting and supporting each other. Two weeks ago no one was asking for Shannon to be fired. If he runs the Table and beats FSU in the ACC game and goes on to win the Orange bowl no one will call for him to be fired. So get over it and let the season play out. All your doing is spitting venom and killing a program you claim to love.

and of course someone will write "shannon is killing the program" and someone else will write "quit fooling your self we won't win the ACC or the Orange bowl until we fire shannon" and you know what with negative attitudes and the sky is falling thinking your right we won't do those things. Case in point VT drops the first two games of the season but they didn't give up, they didn't call for the coaches head, they didn't want the D-coordinator to be fired, they stuck together, fought and stayed with the game plan and what do they have for their perseverance, they have a shot to win the ACC and they believe they will win it.
IF Miami fans and players adopted this thinking and work ethic we could accomplish so much more. I am not a fan of shannon and I believe he has made mistakes, heck I even would love a little fire from him on the side lines but also believe that if we are to be successful as a team the fans base, the coaches and the players MUST have more back bone and believe in what they are doing. Even if we get a new coach, if our fans turn on the new coach he will be no better the Randy. Shut your traps and let the season play out. IF Miami losses to UNC, they can still win the ACC. Its all about what your believe you can achieve and with the fans base killing the players how can you not expect 19 and 20 yr old kids to lose faith and confidence in what they are doing. You might not like J12 or Randy, but they are Miami Hurricanes and they are your players. Call for their heads another day, support them today and see what might actually happen.

Oh yeah and writing in all caps makes your point that much more important by the way.

look no one in the country is doubting miami's talent pool, the talent of the players is not the question, jacory health is the only concern not his skill set, this time is missing heart, soul, and the drive to be best and the leadership on the field is missing..and randy is not allowing these boys be themselves he wants them to be cub scouts instead of hurricanes

randy and whipple are not running a widespread offense because they can't trust jacory right now. I think the future looks bright. Kelvin Cain, VT, Vernon, Ray Ray, etc. These guys are the future.

fastmoneycashmoney:

I agree that losing MNW recruits is a bad sign.

The recruiting class was bound to fall apart after the FSU game, that's the way these things work. These kids want to go to programs that look successful, that's not Miami at this point. It's going to be very hard for Miami to recruit now.

This is what happens when a coach doesn't win after 4 years.

It looks like guys aren't allowed to express themselves at Miami. It all just looks dull and boring.

I think UM have a good team but not a great team. UM fans are expecting too much too fast from this team. Think about it this way, half of UM or any recruiting class will be good players and you hope you can get 2-3 great players out of one recruiting class. Note: Coach Shannon is a good coach but UM recruiting will be down most of his tenure because UM does not offer the eye candy the recruits are looking for. EX: A big modern school, a big modern weight room and locker room. As time process, the swagger tradition fades because the recruits don't care about swagger and tradition like they did a long time ago. The serious fans and I do but we're not the recruits. I guess it starts with money. Money bring in the coaches, the coaches bring in the players, the players bring on the wins, and the wins bring in the fans. I know, that's easier said then done. GO CANES...support the Canes everyone!

Canes Junkie, I agree we are boring and dull to look at. The boys can't be themselves and express themselves, I mean who wants to see a guy score and hand the ball to an offical. Shannon and Shalala have sucked all of the life and fun out of our once proud program. Heck if I wanted to see dull and boring I would pull for Penn State, U can't get anymore boring than that. And you are exactly right about not winning after 4 years, no kid wants to go play for a guy that has all the talent in the world but can't win with it. At least with Butch we could see us getting better from year to year, we look like we looked in 07 just with deeper better talent.

Can you please update the UM national standing in "tackles for loss"?

They came in averaging about 9 per game and I think I counted ten on Saturday

AGREED.

for those that think our offense sucks, I have two words for you. Patrick Nix.

Our offense is ok...we just need need to execute. And I'm not putting this all on Jacory. When you have over 30 drops in 4 games, I don't care if you have Dan Marino back there, you're not going to move the ball.

Miami has the talent to win, and yes Shalala is sucking the life out of the team and Randy is not letting them have fun. But it won't help if the Fans of Miami join in and help suck what life is left out. Yes, the FSU game was going to hurt the recruiting class but getting mad at 17 year old kids for re-evaluating where they want to spend the next 4 years is crazy. The team needs the fans and needs to feel supported for better and for worst. If the fans turn on the team every time they lose and only get support when they win then of course its going to screw with their minds. But if we support Miami and they get lifted up by us and go on to win this weekend and get some confidence back they can run the table and the recruits will fall back to us. No one will argue that Randy took over a bad team 4 years ago and has improved the talent level. So, now he needs support to get over the hump. He doesn't need fans who are going to talk about how Miami is going to win the ACC and Miami is back and Miami is a top 10 team one week and then after a loss totally lose all faith and call for his head. You can question the program and what is happening but to destroy a program you love because they have a bad game or make mistakes is totally off base and all your doing is more harm then good.

First off miami doesnt lose recruits they want usually in there own backyard under randy. he has locked down south florida pretty good. That said Come on the one thing randy does well and everyone agrees is recruit. His coaching may be questioned but u cant question his recruiting. Second miami better start recruiting another qb. Id hope they get 2 in this clas but with only 14-15 scholorships available they wont end up top 10 class with so few players coming in. No matter how many top 150 recruits he gets thats just to few overall recruits. Miami has alot of young talent on this team No leadership from there veterns is a problem. I think its time to see byrd and aj at wr more with hank as well as streeter, hurns and thompkins ive seen enough of benjamin time for him to not dress for games hes not doing anything. Yea the strenth of this miami team has been its d in every game except fsu. Osu there offense kept giving osu the ball in miami terriotry .Considering miamis offense routinely keeps miamis d on the feild 2/3rds of the games they play its amazing they are doing as well as they are

Hey DMac,
To your reply that noone is bashing Alabama & O.S.U.'s coach after they both got man handled by South Carolina and Whisky, respectfully, have you noticed when we have gotten beat, it's been the same old way;dropped passes, misssed tackles, poor coaching, dropped passes, interceptions, missed field goals and penalties. It's looks like a re-run every time we get beat, all the above happen. I know you watched the Va. Tech game last year, as well as Carolina, well you saw the same thing this year at O.S.U. and FSU. The offense is stagnet and Jay-12 is gun-shy. The question everyone should be asking is why do we continually recruit QB's that don't run a pro-style offense? We have no excuse not to average close to 40 pts a game with the supposed great offensive talent we have but we have a Q.B. that floats the ball and the WR's can't catch a damn beach ball. Shannon needs to take bust some tails and start opening the offense up. As far as Roger's de-com, he does have a point who wants to play in this out dated system.

"If you go on Ohio States web site they aren't killing the QB and the team because they got punched in the mouth by Wisconsin. Alabama got punched in the mouth by South Carolina they didnt call for their coaches head."

.

Shannon has NOT won a big game or bowl game going on 4 years now ... OSU and Bama Head coaches have been Top 5 programs, won many big games and Played for National 'Ships in that same time frame. As for Spurrier, I'm sure 3 out of 4 Cane fans would take him right now to run the show in Coral Gables right now. U comparison holds no water.

Shannon is not beneath being critiized fairly, and this criticism is warrented. There are many former Cane players that have just about had it as well, but lemme guess, they're not real Canes right ?

If he runs the Table and beats FSU in the ACC game and goes on to win the Orange bowl no one will call for him to be fired. So get over it and let the season play out. All your doing is spitting venom and killing a program you claim to love.

Posted by: DMacUM09 | October 18, 2010 at 03:12 PM

And you would put down how much money at what odds for that to happen

Yeah, Miami in the Orange Bowl ...

They could buy 85 tickets though and show up.

Randy Shannon isn't in either Tressel's league or Saban. So the comparison is crazy.

They are 18, 19 and 20 year old kids. Confidence can be lost very easily when you feel no one in your home town is behind you and everyone that loved you a month ago hates you now. I mean come on, put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if 3 weeks ago you were the talk of the town and getting love from your home town fans and feeling that no matter what your fans would always have your back and then you have a bad, terrible, unthinkable game against your hated rival and get punch in the mouth. And all the people you thought you could lean on and support you drop you like a bad habit and then kick you while your down. That is just not right, The fans should have their hands out trying to pull their team back up on their feet instead of helping everyone in the Nation kick them while they are down. Thats not what fans do. Think about the Cubs fans who stick with their team from birth to death or Boston fans who stuck with the Red Soxs for 86 years before they won a world series. Thats what real fans do, threw the good times and the bad, sunshine and rain, you stick together. You might not like Randy but he can not and will not be able to do this all by himself. You can let the FSU game be a thorn that festers and ruins the season or it can be a rally cry that brings together a team and city who has their backs against the wall. Its up to each person to decide what they are going to do, but I know I am going to support my 'Canes and not pollute the team that I love.

Give Shannon ten years and Miami will still be terrible. Gene Chizik turned Auburn around in less than 2. Shannon is already promising Bridgewater the job already. How about the kid actually comes to campus and earns it? Ruddock will never come to Miami as long as Shannon is the coach and Bridgewater is committed.

Also, Shannon is a fraud. He keeps saying Miami only recruits kids that want to be Canes. So why not pull these offers like they claim they did with Patrick Peterson.

Finally, remember Shannon just said Duke is a tough place to play. How sad.

Props to both players.

lol @ the guy that mentioned Lil Edge, Bruce, Sam & KP as having great careers. Are you serious? Phillips is the 1 exception when he is not hurt. You cannot 1 name program that send all of their players to the NFL already that are great--some develope later than others. Hell, look @ Texas as an example. A good portion of their players are now balling when they didn't really produce while in school. It happens!

FastCashMoney how can you say they didnt have good careers. Phillips left early after having a few good seasons. Bruce Johnson is a decent DB nothing and Javarris was always injured and graig cooper split carries with him. Hankerson didnt really emerge into a playmaker til last year. Sometimes it takes time. Its going to be a very scary team once receivers start making the catches they need to.

Did you hear Shannon say he promised bridgewater the job? No, you didnt. Did you hear it from Shannon or Patrick Paterson that Miami pulled the offer, probably not, probably read it under someones blog comments and assumed it sounded good and another way to attack the program so lets run with it. Thats what I mean, people just shooting off their mouths and they wonder why the commits wont come to Miami. Kids dont want to play for fans who are going to love them one day and hate them the next. Most people dont mind constructive criticism but thats not what the Miami fans have been doing. If Miami was to win every game like the one versus Duke, I would take it in a heart beat because that would mean and 12-0 season. Look at LSU, they just keep winning. Who cares by how much, just win. The year Miami lost to Ohio St, Miami was killing people all year and Ohio State was winning close games and a few they probably should have lost but in the end both teams were undefeated and played for a national title. If Miami wins every game by one point I dont care they still won.

I'll be honest. I didn't like Rogers and Dorsett in the same class because they have the same ability and size. At least we keep the faster one:

Dorsett 4.30 in the 40.
Rogers 4.50 in the 40.

We still have Dorsett PLUS we have an open slot now for other top WRs in this class that we have offers to, but haven't committed anywhere yet:

Sammy Watkins 6-1/180/4.40
George Farmer 6-2.5/210/4.38
Kelvin Benjamin 6-6/210/4.60
Dominique Terrell 5-11/180/4.49
Tanner McEvoy 6-5/210/4.60
Odell Beckham 5-11/175/4.48

And to say you don't like how the offense is running. Do you not look at the players executing? Catch the ball more, and you're in love with this offense. The real question is, do you think you can come in and execute?

For those chicken little out there, we're fine. I don't want a kid that isn't true U. They are nothing but a cancer on the team.

GO CANES!!!

Am I the only one who usually stops reading a post if it is littered with spelling and grammatical errors?

Scout.com's interview with Dorsett. He's true U, and exactly what we want. We don't need these flip-floppers.

http://recruiting.scout.com/2/1009965.html

ACC Ship Game Or Done:
The former canes fans are also not helping out their team either. People can question the team and get upset but getting upset and mad and bad mouthing the team isn't going to help the situation. Taking shots at the QB and Coach isn't going to bring in the top recruits. Bad mouthing the program and dragging the player through the mud isn't going to help them win. You want them to win, then quit helping bring down the confidence and put your hand out and try to help pull up these 19 and 20 year old kids.

The former canes and fans* sorry haha messed up

Come on guys. Most of these people hating are gayturds pretending to be Cane fans. And if they're not I don't care what they say either. These recruits worrying about what the fans are saying, media, etc., I don;t want them. They will learn real quick, you have to have tough skin in this world. It is dog eat dog ya know?

I want a player to say he is hearing all this nonsense from fans and media, and can't wait to get in here to prove them all wrong. Now that's the true U attitude. Not this pansy crap Teddy and Eli are talking about. Grow up fellas. Grow some b*lls while you at it, too.

GO CANES!!!

Facts are facts when we get beat, we get the smack down laid on us. Even Herbie, on game day said we quit against FSU. The good teams will get beat bad once in a blue moon, it happens to us to frequently. The recruits weren't flocking down here before we got bombed by FSU. Their the ones taking over the state in recruting. I personally believe, and even though they jacked us, that we have more talent than them, especially on Defense, we just laid down. I still love em no matter what it just pisses me off when we give games away turning the ball over and lack of effort.

A true fan of any team does not bad mouth their team no matter what. Yeah I was mad that my team lost to FSU, but I still wore my jersey on Monday to school. The U isn't the same as it was years ago, but that isn't something that can be tought. Randy is the coach we need. The players are the players we need. If you naysayers would just shut up, and stop dogging them every time you get on here maybe, just maybe we as fans might be able to help this team get some confidence and win. I wouldn't want to win for some of you on here either. Support The U, or just shut up!

Let's get this straight right now. Most of us are here because we love our Canes. We spend our money to wear their gear and spend our money to go to the games. I hate it when some other fan comes in here and says WE THE FANS ARE THE PROBLEM. That's a bunch of BS. We want to win, PERIOD. We don't want to get embarrased on national tv, PERIOD. After 4 years, Randy Shannon has to take some responsibility for his win/loss record, PERIOD. I love this team and I take a lot of pride in the product on the field. Right now this team is falling short of Hurricane pride. The last two games may make some of you happy but not this Cane fan. It's not in our DNA. There is a brand of football we play that brought us to this team and right now that is missing. "we'll get them next year" doesn't work around here. If we are going to lose it better be scratching and clawing and not with tails between our legs. That's why I'm upset. Having said all that, I'll be there Saturday night to put my money where my mouth is. I better not pay all that moeny to travel from Pensacola and bring my family to see a team not playing hard. The Canes fans who accept that kind of team and continue to make excuses for this team need to question how much they actually love this team. Because if you do truly love this team and our history you would be hurting and angry and embarrased. So let's get out there Saturday and play Hurricane football! What I saw the past few weeks is not Hurricane football.

DMacUM09 I admire your effort, I wish more of the "Fans" would use common sense. It is funny how all the people who claim to have had season tickets since the 1970's and are not going to buy anymore tickets are ridiculous and I hope they stop buying tickets because we do not need those bandwagon fans.

recruit rudock recruit rudock.he'll have dorsett as well. Why not?
He can decommit from Iowa. Stay home, be the next Ken Dorsey.
