Gore visits practice, injury report for Maryland

Former Hurricane Frank Gore reportedly stopped by Thursday's walkthrough practice in Coral Gables as UM prepared to face Maryland Saturday at Sun Life Stadium at noon.

Gore, who ranks second in the NFL with 1,039 all-purpose yards this season, watched most of the practice and afterwards he spent time talking with Lamar Miller and running backs coach Mike Cassano. Gore's 49ers have a bye this week before playing host to St. Louis next weekend.

The Hurricanes also released their injury report. No surprises here as quarterback Jacory Harris (concussion) and starting tailback Damien Berry (lower extremity) were listed as out along with defensive tackles Josh Holmes and Curtis Porter.

Third-string quarterback A.J. Highsmith (wrist) is listed as questionable. The Hurricanes are trying to redshirt him.

As expected, Shannon announced senior offensive lineman Joel Figueroa had season-ending surgery on a lower extremity.

@WestCoastCane

U made a good point, the team doesn't look like it's getting better as the season goes on. That has becomed a trend. I don't belive RS is the right fit, but I also know the school isnt going to fire him after they just gave him an extension. Miami seems to get worse towards the end of the year when most teams are getting better. Look at VT. I hate then, but they lost to JAMES MADISON and probably will play for ACC championship. Why, because they got better as the year went on.

True I would be there if I could but I live in VA. I'll be watching though 12:00 ESPNU

Im not a Randy Hater... quite the opposite. There is defenetly a problem with the program, but its not game mangement, its certainly not a lack of talent, the real problem is player development. This is not a recent problem but an on-going one. Every year we see the same players drop t5he same passes, throw the same interceptions, miss the same tackles. We do not see any improvements. On a year to year basis we expect the game to get slower for these guys, for them to be able to correct and improve on their mistakes, why isnt this happening? Why is it that guys that had little to no productivity at THE U seem to be standouts in the NFL... We continue to blame and attack Randy but I think some blame needs to be placed on these positions and strengh coaches aswell...

Everyone talks about how much talent we have, and this and that. What freaking talent? I haven't seen crap on that field.

Dropped passes <> Talent
False starts <> Talent
Holding <> Talent
Out of position <> Talent
OLB playing MLB <> Talent

And for the FIRE SHANNON morons. What does yelling that crap here really going to do? What in the world are you trying to prove? If you can go do a better job then go do it. If you are not turning in your resume to Kirby then STFU!!!

And then we go off to talk about how much better kids are once they get to the NFL. Like the TALENT around them, and the competition, and the fact that they are getting PAID doesn't have anything to do with that extra umh.

6 turnovers to ANY team and you will lose. What in the hell does SIX TURNOVERS have to do with coaching??? Man, y'all are freaking morons!!!

GO CANES!!!

Hurricanes CB Brandon Harris has been named a semifinalist for the Thorpe Award, given annually to the nation’s best DB.

I haven't had the time to read all of the posts, so I apologize if this has been mentioned, but someone had broached the idea that RS going to his 5AM practice schedule might be detrimental to the team. Apparently, former players have expressed that the hot and steamy afternoon practices they endured built both physical and mental toughness that carried over to Game Day. I know there are MANY issues to fix to right this sinking ship, but this might be one of the 12 steps.
I am also cautiously optimistic that this Morris kid might be the spark we need to get back on track...always keep the faith.

Lets Go After Gruden Please...

Randy is not the future of UM does he quality with the past coaches who have succeeded at miami ? Uhm Hell No. sure he has the talent to win a championship but its obvious he's not the right fit, i also say lets fire whipple to because both have been outcoached on multiple ocassions this year, yeah you can partially blame harris for not living up to his expectations this year, but to all of us canes this year is a major melt down, if it wasnt for the stupid play calling in the 4th quarter against virginia im pretty positive morris would have scored and we would have had a dramatic win to a horrible start of the game, if we dont do something it will continue to go down hill, with recruiting and everything

What in the hell does SIX TURNOVERS have to do with coaching??? Man, y'all are freaking morons!!!

6 turnovers has everything to do with coaching. That wasn't the first time we've had multiple turnovers.

Posted by: REAL CANE..

Yes, exactly. The only player who has developed is Hankerson and he had to go work with Mark Duper.

Brandon Harris has always been a good player.

Yeah, Hankerson is good but he's dropped about 6 passes himself. Someone mentioned the other coaches and I do believe it's time for a new special teams coach, which is another area we are terrible at, Swasey, is another one who should take a hike and I'm not sold on Huff, I haven't seen any improvement in our WR's.I'd like to see whipple's offense run by a true pro-style QB and it doesn't seem that we can recruit this type of QB. Maybe it's time to change offense and go to an Oaklahoma type spread.

"The cost for Gruden is tooo DAMN high"

We need to bring back Rob Chudzinski!

REally gt lost there startign qb and rb for the year and u dont like our chances? lol im sorry thats funny. As for randy i think hes improved as a coach every year. I believe this team can win out not sure if they will beat vt. But they can. The talent is there. morris looks pretty good in 4th quarter if there is one complaint we should have its why wasnt morris getting more reps prior to last saturday its clear he is the second best qb if not the best qb on this team. Had he gotten some reps against famu and others miami beats virginia even if u dont like the game plan. Virginia was putting 10 men in the box also miami had to pass. To loosen that up. If jacory doesnt go down early miami wins easy. That said vt will be a very tough game as will maryland. maryland is a much better team then gt right now.

LaRon Byrd commented that the Canes under estimated Virginia.

It appears that when the players respect and take an opponent seriously they typically perform well (ie: Pittsburgh, North Carolina--OSU was a different story). Yet, the teams they should walk over it appears they play down to their level. And last week actually played under an inferior opponents level.

This is a pattern we must break...starting tomorrow!

ESPN is reporting Jacory will be out for 2 games.

It is real simple, people.

Attitude reflects leadership.

How does that principle fit with the Hurricanes this year?

Simple. How Jacory goes, so do the Hurricanes. How many times have we heard that?

If Jacory hadn't gone down we would have won easily? What are U nuts? Harris did not do jacksquat but throw an interception. We looked as bad with him as we did with WHipple in there. Morris played like a Cane. He is without a doubt the best QB we have on this team including Harris. We better be glad harris is out 2 weeks. That way we have a chance to win. Oh I forgot, Shannon is still head coach. At least for now anyway.

I think if we can beat Maryland we are in the driver's seat. MORRIS FOR HEISAM

C'mon man--you've got a guy directing racial hate at the black players on the team you love and you get mad at someone defending our players against this type of hate?

I'm not lecturing, at least I'm trying not to lecture, but if you love a team and they've lost every game and some low-life starts calling your players stupid and subhuman becuase they are black then that's the very moment that the win/loss record become irrelevant and we all come together to slam this hater.

Hmmmm let's see ... The World's most successful rapper, Eminem, a white skinned man, that has the vocabulary of a 9th. grader and cannot put a sentance together without multiple grammatical errors ... The World's most successful golfer, Tiger Woods, a brown skinned man, that could probably teach post grad English Lit. So, I ask you Canes Pride, oh mighty purveyor of all things race, does that in fact make me a racist or simply an unbiased human being stating the obvious truth a blind man could hear, minus any racial malice or bigotry what so ever ?

And yes, you are lecturing and losing the debate handley. Some people regardless of race, simply do not speak the English language with proper diction and enunciation. Randy and Michael(although Irvin corrects himself from time to time) are constantly victims of that fact. And as a CEO of a College, higher education's Football program and a T.V./radio announcer and talk show host, those traits do not bode well for either in those professions. That's not racist, and if either tried to become ESPN talking heads, they both wouldn't make it through the first 2 minutes of their monolouges before being told, "thankyou very much, we'll be in touch." Would that make the decision makers at ESPN racist ?

Bottom line, when Shannon and Irvin talk, it hurts the ears, unless of course it's the ears of someone else that speaks in the same fashion.

"C'mon man" How about U ?

once again, how about U ?

Hmmm suppose Miami's R.B. Coaches don't teach n preach ball security, Q.B. Coaches ball protection and NOT throwing into coverage, W.R. Coaches grabbing n tucking catchable balls and Defensive Coaches hat on the ball and rip n strip the ball carriers... Nawwwwwwww.

Yeah, what does Coaching have to do with turnovers ?

U need to try 180Cane, cause Ur Azzbackwards

support the U regardless. Win or lose. To only support them when their winning is called a bandwagon fan. And the class of 10 class has produced Stephen Morris and Seantrel Henderson. The U can still improve. Georgia Tech needs to get it done tonight and then we need to win out. Stop with the negativity though. We need to show recruits that they will be loved if they come here not ridiculed for making mistakes. We forget they're kids coming out of high school. If you weren't a diehard canes fan, would you really come to the U to get threats for missing a tackle or throwing a pick? For many of these kids, this is the highlight of their playing career. Let's help them enjoy it and stand by them. GO CANES!

U would have made a great German foot soldier. Ask no questions, question no orders and follow along blindly.

It's time for all involved with the University of Miami's Football Program, top to the bottom, to be held accountable and make US, the paying fans enjoy OUR invested experience after SEVEN YEARS and counting of the same, "We're Back", not ONE Signiture win B.S. ... NOT ONE !!!

There's no need to rush Jacory back, let's see what Stephen Morris can do.

That starting job should be up for grabs next year, but I have a feeling Shannon will mess it up.

THIS IS A PREEMPTIVE STIRKE AGAINST THE HATERS

Morris is a freshman, 4th string quarterback. He will most likely make mistakes and the Jacory comparisons (good or bad) are not only brainless, but absurd.

Maryland has a 6 & 2 record and is in the race for the ACC title game (don't ridicule Maryland's schedule). When the Canes win don’t start with your nonsense about how bad Maryland was, which is your way of belittling the win, the kid’s effort and of course Randy Shannon.

Thank you for playing along and…Go Canes!

Posted by: Morley Safer

Morley I couldn't agree more. This season is playing out just as I anticipated. The guy at the NCAA store laughed at me when I ordered my MORRIS jersey back in August. I usually wear that one at away games. This weekend I am wearing my DEPTHS jersey.

Go 'canes.

With Jacory out for 2 weeks and Berry out for this game that is gonna be the excuse not to show Shannon the door. The kool aid drinkers will say he didn't have a full team, they were young, guys were out of position (kinda like Shannon in the article above) etc. What happen's next year when B Harris is in the pros, Bailey is in the pros's, Hankerson is in the pro's, Franklin is gone DvD is gone(not that important i know) Ryan Hill gone. These guys are all starters/contributors at important position's and as of right now who has demonstrated the ability to replace them ? Henderson will move in place for Franklin but that is it. U can bet your ass that the we are young crowd will be back in full force next year

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So, you’re a connoisseur of the English language. And you’ve taken it upon yourself to constantly point out to the world those who do not speak as you would have them do so. Interestingly you reserve your harsh critiques for black men affiliated with the University of Miami. Why is that?

Having just read your review I couldn’t help but notice that during your 1950’s Mississippi evaluation of Randy and Michael your numerous spelling and grammar errors. Normally I would not point this out, but my intent is to further establish what a fool you are, the key word being “intent” as the fool part is a given. Just as your “intent” is not to in passing mention the uniqueness of Randy and Michael’s speech. Your intent is to take a trait, not uncommon amongst African Americans, and use that as proof that anyone that speaks like that (African American) is not smart…like you! You think you are being clever in the way you go about your bigotry, but trust me, you are anything but clever.

What I do know, which anyone with a grain of common sense also knows, if those comments I have been reading are yours, then you are the pinup boy for this year’s racist calendar.

The punch line to all of this is I deplore political correctness. I detest those who play the race card as a means to win every argument. But, when I come to this site and read the garbage that you post, again assuming you are the one posting the hate, I am not going to turn a blind eye to this type of cowardly, bigoted behavior and would hope that other civilized human beings that read your thinly veiled hate would be enraged as well.

In terms of intelligence, your post above is tantamount to someone coming to a gun fight armed with a rubber knife!

I hope nobody is fooled by my d-bag antics on here. I never get tired of taking other peoples id's and trying to get cane fans to argue with one a other. Why you ask? Because what's a loser with no life, girlfriend or friends to do? This is my life. (Or lack thereof)

There's no courage like keyboard courage. (Gator troll motto)

FIRE RANDY and HIS CIRCUS CLOWNS starting with J12.. i hope that he does not come back at all... i should send the UVA player a check for knocking the F*.. out of harris...for those of u who keep supporting RANDY... ur only wasting ur money because this team is not going anywhere under his leadership...

Shannon was never a starter for the CANES. The truth is that Shannon was an affiramtive action hire (I wish it would have worked) and he has failed. He has had four years to get us back to being a top 10 team and he has not done it. It is time to fire him. It is too bad that he is not man enough to resign. Once the Trustees see fans BOYCOTTING the games and the alumni donations down, Randy will be gone. FIRE SHANNON!!!

jesus.. can we please just talk about football. i actually go to um and its annoying to see the petulence of 30 men.
talk canes 'ball for once

Face it people, Randy is not going anywhere. Add the injury to Harris, theirs definitely no chance he goes.
However, if they did fire him, who in the hell are they going to hire to replace him? Who?
Boycotting the games is not going to accomplish anything. The stadium is 3/4 empty already.

...just wish they could pull it all together finally. BTW - quick survey how many of you here like Obama but not Shannon?

I dont know if AJ will show up more but I expect we will see LaRon become more involved with Morris at QB

I wont see the game. My mom took my TV and Xbox last week for rubbing one off on her cat while I was watching The View. Man, Joy Behar is hot!!!

OK halftime…come on GT
Holy sh*t...did you see how the racist mocked us on the sun sentinel? Look at what the captial letter spell? go away you racist pig!

Timing
Accuracy

Go ‘canes and GT for one night only!!!!

In all honesty, I am more sick of Randy then this guy!!!

I will be in section 69 with bull gator and westcoast cane watching them enjoy footlongs and cosmos..

Go 'Canes!!!

Sean, dont you have to find out what Justin is doing right now?
Or is it more important to you to stay on this one last site and keep the racist comments going?

Anybody buying my latest posts above using all of the aliases? Anybody?

Justin Bieber just banned me from his website cus I asked him if we could exchange naked photos. I hate Justin (sad face)!

Urban Meyer and I see the same psychiatrist. The psychiatrist says Urban has pee-pee envy. He tells me I envy Urbans pee-pee.

Oh yeah! My psychiatrist asked me if I know the definition of 'irony'. I told him no and don't have time to learn the definition cus I'm busy hurling racial hate at the black University of Miami football players and coaches, while at the same time rooting for the University of Florida's black football players and coaches.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

My vote is for text messages from Chris "where's my dinner b**ch" Rainey

I thought this was the DUH U's year back to national prominence?!!

STEPHEN MORRIS WILL LEAD DUH U TO THE PROMISE LAND***

The hundreds and hundreds will witness it tomorrow

***Promise Land = Soul Glow Bowl

Randy's nickname is double negative.

What can be more intimidating then Urrrbs list of core values he makes his team follow
His team knows to never break those values or there will be hell to pay

Urban's two National Championships rings are a little intimidating, no?

I will say that the word smith Randy wields a double negative as if he were Zorro.

The last time the U was relevant the ipod hadn't not come out.

Bridgewater aint not coming here cause he aint got not competition with jacory and morris

Guys, I need some advise. Which poster should I hang up next to my collector's edition Justin Bieber? David Hasselhoff (Knight Rider version), My Little Pony or Miley Cyrus?
