Jacory will travel to Atlanta, help Morris

University of Miami quarterback Jacory Harris has not let his concussion get in the way of his team spirit and good nature, say his teammates.

During the game against Maryland, Harris encouraged freshman starter Stephen Morris from the sideline, providing reassurance and helping him cope with his new responsibility.

The Hurricanes veteran quarterback is expected to do the same Saturday when UM (6-3, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) plays Georgia Tech (5-4, 3-3) at noon in Atlanta. Even though Harris has been ruled out for the game, he will travel to Atlanta and continue helping Morris.

"He said he's been doing it for so long he kind of felt like a coach that day -- coaching up a young guy, a guy that looks up to him," said defensive tackle Marcus Forston of the quarterbacks' interaction last Saturday. "So that was a good thing."

Morris said after his second-half debut at Virginia that he had already begun to emulate his role model by staying calm and composed. "I learned that from Jacory, actually," Morris said last week. "Jacory is the calmest cat I've ever seen. I just try to mimic him in all the ways possible. ...It was all good."

Cornerback Brandon Harris believes now that Morris has emerged, the healthy competition between the two will only make the Hurricanes better.

"It really does a lot to build character and maturity on this football team," Harris said. "A lot of people don't look at it that way. They just look at it as a position battle and controversy."

Harris said the team is rallying around both quarterbacks.

"There's no picking and choosing on this team. Everybody understands we're in this together. Whatever outside forces say, and whatever they want to do to separate us, that's not going to happen.

"[Jacory] understands that he's down and he wants the freshman to be successful at this point. He has to do what he has to do to help this football team win. Jacory understands, and that shows a lot about his maturity and how much he really cares about this football team."

Center Tyler Horn believes Harris has too strong a will to be intimidated or upset about Morris' emergence.

"He doesn't really pay attention to that kind of stuff," Horn said. "He doesn't. He's our quarterback and his role is as our quarterback and that's the leader of the team. He knows that."

Said linebacker Sean Spence, who played with Harris at Miami Northwestern High: "I don't think it affects Jacory. If anything, I think Jacory is happy for him to [have gone] out there and won the game for this team.

"Just being the competitor jacory is, he wants the best for whoever is on the field.

Forston, another former Northwestern Bull, smiled when he was asked about Harris being out at practice again this week.

"You never know what's going on in his head, man. Like I've been saying, with all the things that happened to him, he's going to keep on playing and keep that smile on his face."

Jacory is only going to stay in the public eye. He knows that if Morris has a better game this week they will want to say it was Jacory helping him. And to B harris , noone is trying to separate the teamates , we just want the best players on the field.

"During the game against Maryland, Harris encouraged freshman starter Stephen Morris from the sideline, providing reassurance and helping him cope with his new responsibility.

The Hurricanes veteran quarterback is expected to do the same Saturday"

Stephen! Don't listen! Wear earplugs!

I only hope - for both players - that the competition is truly open for the best player to start each week. I feel the JH hasn't had to worry about this and hence has not kept improving the way I think many of us here thought he would.

BTW - how the heel did you guys lose to Virginia? Still can't get my head around that one.

Pathetic, incompetent head coaching. Thats how we got beat. Same story every year.

What advise JSKINNY is going to provide? how to throw interceptions? Dont listen to his s..* Morris, do your thing... JSKINNY u Need to stay the F...* home and allow this young man to develope his game..He does not need your advise..he knows how to play with the swagger on!!!!

Stephen Morris is our best QB right now.. Jskinny U suck.. How are u going to provide advise for someone if u have not taken care of businees? ur just a joke.. and SHANNON is too. FIRE CANDY RANDY AND TAKE JSKINNY WITH U. shannon plays favorites and does not allow the best players on the field.

for those of u who keep supporting RANDY.. i hope u are ready for 8 or less wins a season.. if u are happy with that kind of record each year then u R not a passionate cane fan. People you keep forgetting that the only reason people know today where the U is at, is because of the FOOTBALL program.. 5 times national champs... not because we graduate the most players... CANDY RANDY is a sorry coach.. after 4 years and we are not even close to an ACC title?

The modt animated ive ever seen randy shannon in an interview

The most animated I've ever seen Randy Shannon in an interview

text you're link from

Miamicanes, you are already wrong. He win more than 8 last year and will likely do so this year.

After being crushed by a 1 - 4 Virginia football team, and a BLOW OUT loss at home from the hands of Florida State. I am now a Sean Wilson Fan Club Member. Sean Wilson is a fine american and a straight up Truth Speaka....god bless america, and sean wilson! But, Miami has been doing good things off the field.

Sean Wilson was RIGHT!

Pay that man his money....

What J12 is doing what was missing from this team for years now and it sad to read what you uninformed fans are saying on this blog. Leadership from your upper classman is big for a football team development. Despite what some you may think about Jacory, this young man was winner prior to coming this program. He has a alot to offer this young man. Jacory did not have a mentor, and maybe if he had, some of the mistake he made would not have happen. This is a good move in the right direction towards senior leadership. I hope the others in that 2008 class will follow his lead!!! Jacory continue to do what you are doing. This type of leadership is long over do!!!!

Jacory Harris is a class act.

Stephen! you are our hope for salvaging this season.

Don't listen to Jacory. Avoid him. The only thing you can learn from him is what not to do.

When he speaks to you, put your fingers in your ears and say LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA.

Is it necessary to put down jacory when saying something good about Stephen Morris. Our fans have a combined IQ of 30 (if I round up). You see it in the stance with the idiots screaming dumb stuff and cursing like a bunch of idiots. When they ask me why I don't go to games, its not cause of the team, stadium, or cause I'm a fair weather fan....its cause I don't want to be in the same close area as complete a-holes....

stands, not stance

Unfortunately the negative comments are affect more than the positive ones.

You can have your say, but there isn't a damn thing that's going to be accomplished by it.

I'm with you 'Canes. As I said, I've been here for 33 years, I'll be here for AT LEAST 33 more.

G O C A N E S ! ! !

Well then we will accomplish just as much as Shannon has then want we? In fact after he is canned we will have accomplished more, because then we can go after a real coach, not a puppet.

We have got to have the worse football and basketball coaches collectively in the whole ACC. Maybe in the whole country as well.

What good is Harris going to be in Atlanta? Whats he going to do tell Morris how to be a failure? Or maybe throw a lame duck int? Or maybe how to find his little happy place on the sideline where nobody can find him hiding but the cameras.
I can hear it now, Stephen man please don't go in there and light them up to bad. It will be tough for coach shannon to put me in next game if U look too good.

I don't make the calls at the top.
I wasn't calling for Hurricane Howards head in '79. I wasn't calling for Coach Jimmy's head in '85. I wasn't calling for Butch's head in the mid-ninties.

I do ,though, support my 'Canes.

Yes, we've won "only" 2 NC's in 20 years. How many teams have won more....1??

1 NC in ten years...maybe 3 teams have us there??

If you dont like this team, then just go away...it's very simple.

G O C A N E S

Does Jacory get to go to the lockeroom? Does he get a post-game meal?

Would want to see him in a Latwan Anderson situation.

championships - you sound like an entitled, spoiled little brat.

What do you not understand about UM not being able to hire a new coach if they fire Randy Shannon?

No sh*t they would be better if they fired Shannon and hired an established coach, but they can't do it.

If UM isn't putting enough resources into their football program to satisfy your g*ddamn standards then you should seriously consider looking for another school to "support".

UM never has spent a lot of money on their football program, and they never will.

It's disgusting that we have so called fans who throw out so much negativity towards our own players.

J-12 can help Whip Jr. call the plays after ..

Fresh-17 gets jacked up trying to do too much ...

Miami D ready ? riiiiiiiiiiiight .

U'll look really good in ALL ORANGE n Green helmets against Va. Tech ... and it'll all mean nothing. U'll have nothing to play for .

Bowl game ? yeah, U'll travel right ?

next year

BIG CANE says:

November 11, 2010 at 8:29 am

Morris, a true freshman, has better judgement in 6-quarters than Harris has showed all season, not to mention the kid has a gun for a arm! I am not hating on Harris, but let the young-gun play. GO-CANES…………

.

WWOOOOOOOOOOOOO HHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

MORRIS GOTS 3 TD's n 4 INT's in 6 Quarters So Far !!!

Them Kinda Numbers Will Get Cha RECORDS !!!

YEEEEEEEAAAAHHHHH !!!!

Mo-17 be da next ? ... Jacory, right ?

Relax..cane tards:

Yeah like the gaturds, right? The U - of Felons is still riding Teblown's jock this year and thatis whythey may end up in a nice bowl even with a 7-5 record!

Oh God, please let us play the turds in a bowl please please please

USED TO LIKE J HARRIS, but after seeing the Kid play, let him get game experience the last three games plus the bowl game and let it be an open competition next year.

J Harris simply has not progressed , the kid has shown great poise , LET HIM PLAY,is that simple.

that is all...

Hopefully, the qb's push each other and the team gets better.

DALLAS CRAWFORD, a 2011 Miami prospect from my town of Fort Myers, FL is to pick his college today. CRAWFORD can plany quarterback, running back, or defensive back. He has more Int's than any DB in FL. His has thrown for more yards as a QB in Lee County, FL history. Flat-out playmaker. Come on DALLAS, pick UM. CANE 4 LIFE!!

DALLAS, bring WR SAMMY WATKINS with you to the U (SAMMY is also from Fort Myers, FL--the home of Deion Sanders and Javon Kearse)

Hmm... I stopped reading the sun-sentinel UM blog a while back because of the viscous hate spewed by some. After looking at it today, it looks like the herald & ss has switched places.

There is immense hate here while over there it seems to have constructive dialog. People are still disappointed. Express what they don't like about RS, j12, whip or the program in general. But no hate...

75% of the negative comments on this blog are from gator trolls. Because their team has the same record as the Canes they have to post as a disgruntled Cane fan to keep from looking like bigger dooshes than they already are. To the supposed Cane fans slamming the players you are the self entitled fans we can do without. You never actually go to the games, puff your chest out and talk shyt when the team is good, and slam the program and players when things get tough. I guess you don't remember the fire butch banner that was flown over the OB or the way you whined like little bytches when he bolted to the browns........

and dallas crawford is gone.
just like that south park episode.

- We lost to Virginia
- Survived against Maryland
- Our Head Coach is an imbecile
- Stephen Morris is going to get benched
- We will probably lost to GT and VT
- Another crappy bowl (maybe)

That's why the blog is negative. What are we supposed to look forward to, recruiting?

All the competition in the world isn't going to give JH a strong arm, or make him a good runner.
I agree that Shannon plays favorites. Reminds me of my H.S. football coach. If you went to his office every day and kissed his a**, you played. Never having been an a** kisser I didn't play that much, though I was better than most of the guys who played my position. Shannon should start watching Fox News, you know, "fair and balanced."

When is the last time we actually had a vet QB work with a young, up and coming QB?

Like Shannon said, "This 2008 class is the foundation of what we are trying to achieve."

I hope we, the fans, start understanding that...

And it seems to be working great for Morris, huh? Only to think if Harris had a vet QB on this team helping him back then. No one was able to teach Harris from their mistakes, but Harris can now teach Morris from his mistakes. And I don't see anyone here complaining about Morris.

Some idiots on here say for Morris not to listen to Harris. That can go on the shelf with all the other dumb comments on here. It's actually helping more than you realize... But you never played, coached or organized a football team so how the heck would you know anyway?

GO CANES!!!

NO DISRESPECT TO MORIS, HE'S A GREAT QUARTERBACK, BUT IF COACH WHIPPLE WOULD HAVE DESIGNED THE SAME TYPE PLAYS FOR HARRIS, HARRIS WOULD BE LOOKING VERY AWESOME ALSO. HE STILL LOOKS AWESOME IN MY OPINION. HE STILL HAS MORE THAN A YEAR OF ELIGIBILITY LEFT AND HE'S SECOND ON THE LIST OF TOUCHDOWNS BING THROWN AND HE'S THIRD ON THE LIST OF THE MOST YARDS EVER BEING THROWN. PEOPLE WAKE UP, THIS YOUNG MAN MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT. THE THING MOST PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE IS THAT MOST OF HIS INTERCEPTIONS COMES WHEN COACH WHIPPLE HAS HIM TO THROW LONG TO BENJAMIN , WHO IS ONE OF THE FASTEST RECEIVERS IN THE NATION, UN FORTUNATELY HE IS ALSO ONE OF THE SHORTEST.STREETER IS A VERY BIG RECIEVER TRY THROWING THE BOMB MORE TO HIM , THAT'S WHAT ENABLED MIAMI NORTHWESTERN TO WIN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. THEY USED HIM AND NO ONE COULD PLAY HIM . PLEASE, A LITTLE MORE CREATIVENESS ON THE OFFENSE WOULD HELP. ICE, YOU'RE STILL MY QUARTERBACK ALL WAYS HAVE BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL. PSALMS 50 PSALMS 100

If we lay on the porch this weekend there will be 100% negative comments on this blog. Shannon either rights this slow sinking ship, by winning out the rest of the season or he has to can a few coaches (Swazey, & Panzy + Barrow) for starters and if this on again off again crap continues next year, he will be gone.

- We lost to Virginia
--I think anyone playing with their scout team QB will lose this game. I think anybody with 6 turnovers would lose this game, too. But heck, we were darn close to coming back and winning though, huh? And it's funny that it was the defense that lost this game not the O.

- Survived against Maryland
--I think when you play with a green QB and only run 10 plays from scrimmage the entire game, any team is going to hang with you. Maryland was also 6-2 (3-1) that just hung 62 points on Wake Forest. So what's wrong with Maryland in your humble opinion?

- Our Head Coach is an imbecile
--I think if you two were to take an IQ test, he'd blow you out!

- Stephen Morris is going to get benched
--How did you get a VIP pass to practice? Morris can beat GT running 10-15 plays. Morris cannot beat VT running 10-15 plays. We need Harris back to give us more on offense sense he is our veteran.

- We will probably lost to GT and VT
--There you go again with that dang crystal ball of yours. Where can I get one?

- Another crappy bowl (maybe)
--Again with the crystal ball...

What are we supposed to look forward to, recruiting?
--You need to work on that list of things to look forward to in life. If Miami Hurricane football is the only thing, I feel sorry for you.

Now: Basketball news.Ugh!

UM has more dawg teams than Alaska.

Isn't that right, Curse Piggy?

Your name is Sean, right? The guy with all the women, money and intelligence.

Give me your address. I would like to visit.

Maryland beat Wake Forest, that must mean they are good.

I'd lose an IQ test to Shannon, yeah right. Anytime!

We're going to the first annual La Carreta Bowl, son.

360 cane........ur a tool.
classic apologist.
ur part of the problem, not part of the solution.
how low have you set the bar now?
are you part of the fanbase that jumps up and down and hi 5s his mom when we have a high graduation rate?

randy is not a good coach and now he cant even recruit.
he makes up more excuses and continues to throw players under the bus while having an unhealthy loyalty to the 2008 class.

we are stuck now because we signed him to an extension cause he cried about recruits not believing he would be around.
if i was a recruit that would be a selling point.

Speaking of recrutis, we haven't had any in over 2 months. What are we waiting for?

who would want to commit thr future to randy?
honestly.

let them be a team. they may not be undefeated. they may be living up to your unrealistic expectations. but why question j12's encouragement and tutelage as disingenuous? as far a a true quarterback competition i think there will be one come spring because of the flashes morris has displayed. the game planning and play calling need to improve regardless of the starting quarterback. the coaches need to play up their strengths and put the players in positions to succeed. and demand proper execution.

LOL @ "Help Morris". "Okay you your receiver being double covered you laub the ball over there".
