Jacory, Berry, Miller return to practice

Perfect Wednesday evening here at Greentree Field at the University of Miami.

Practice is over, and there were some welcome additions to this session -- Jacory Harris, Damien Berry and Lamar Miller

Quarterback Harris, recuperating from his concussion, came out of hibernation to face the sunshine. J12 was wearing his white jersey with black shorts and no pads. He did not wear a helmet. He threw passes during individual drills.

Harris will not play Saturday.

‘‘Just a little bit, that's all he did,'' UM coach Randy Shannon said. "He moved around a little and just threw some balls to receivers and that was all.

"He's been happy every day. Last week he was happy and he was happy at the game. He has a lot of enthusiasm. He's always going to be up."

How is Harris helping current starter Stephen Morris?

"He talks to him, communicates with him all the time,'' Shannon said. "All the quarterbacks communicate and talk amongst each other. He talked to him in the game a lot, which was good. Anytime you have a guy like Jacory who has been in the fire, it's always good to talk to somebody
like that."

What's the next step in Harris' recovery?

"The medical staff will let us know," Shannon said.

Also returning were running backs Berry and Miller. Berry has been rehabbing a leg injury, and also caught the flu, which apparently has been going around the team.

"I wasn't feeling too good. I had a little stomach virus," Miller said regarding his absence from Tuesday's practice. "It's been traveling around the locker room."

Miller said Berry's addition was important. "It felt good to see Damien Berry back on the field. He's been rehabbing a lot -- like three times a day and we're glad to have him back. To me it looks like he's 100 percent. It looks like he's ready to go this week."

Left tackle Orlando Franklin did end up coming to practice, but he took no reps. He is expected to play at Georgia Tech.

> Tight end Asante Cleveland was there today, but he was on the sideline in shorts and his jersey and didn't practice.

> Also there fully dressed, but not practicing when we were out there at the beginning: defensive tackle Josh Holmes, who has sat out four of the last five games.

> Wide receiver Allen Hurns was not at practice.

Keep up the good work.
First!

Keep JSKINNY out for Good.. he sucks and so is his daddy(shannon) who babies him into failure...Lets keep Morris on the field and give him a chance to shine.... Dont go to the games until Randy shannon is fired........

SHANNON is not a good coach...WAKE UP people!!! he is in the way of the UM program...If u r considering coming to the U(don't waste) ur time under Randy.. Go to another ptogram that can develope u and win games.... FIRE RANDY NOW!!!!!Jskinny UR NOT A GOOD QB...

Extremity report, we are so weak physically now that we don't even have a legitimate injury report. Good one.

Wow......what great fans you are......tell the lifeline of your team not to come to the the university......thats great work for someone who wants the team to win.......

miamicanes1.....how is the coach in the way of the program......

MiamiCanes1 is a loser. Obviously he is perfect in his job and everything he does. Just support the university! They are laying it on the line.

MiamiCanes1 must be a conservative by wishing our leader to fail. I also think there are better choices for head coach, but I want the Canes to win ever game and recruit the best players.

How do I get to see the Ga. Tech game this Saturday.....I live in Dayton OH.....dpease@woh.rr.com

I guess you would call a concussion an upper extremity, His ints are definitely all in his head.

GO GT... Put another nail in "CANDY RANDY"s coffin. The sooner he is fired the quicker the CANES can get back to their National Championship Days and the more losses "CANDY RANDY" has the more pressure the Trustees will have to get rid of him. SHANNON! MAN UP AND RESIGN!

If, a big if, we beat GaTech with Morris at QB and
If Shanno puts in Harris and he loses at VaTEch- Shannon should be gone
big ifs just opinion

GO CANES BEAT G.T.TO ALL RECRUITS COME JOIN OUR FAMILY.GO SHANON SHUT THE HATERS UP.SICK OF U NONE FANS.WHY DONT U GO TO 7734 N GET OUT OF MIAMI.HAVE U HUGGED YOUR KIDS TODAY?

speedy recovery to harris

Unbelievable. Shannon should be fired... Do not go to the games until Shannon is fired.... What great fans. You guys make me sick. I am sure you guys are not real fans. By the way, who are the Canes going to replace Shannon with if he is fired? Who?

maimicanes1 - do yourself a favor and stop following and "supporting" the Miami Hurricanes. They don't need you.

To everyone hoping the Canes lose out so Shannon gets fired - the board of trustees had an emergency meeting the monday after the Virginia game and they came to the conclusion that if UM fires Shannon before the end of the 2011 season, they will not have enough money to hire a replacement (not a top-tier replacement, an up-and-coming, low range salary replacement).

RANDY SHANNON WILL BE COACHING THIS TEAM THROUGH 2011, AND JACORY HARRIS WILL LIKELY BE HIS STARTER.

If you can't handle that, jump off the bandwagon - not like UM's getting any support from it's "fans" anyway.

Dont waste time responding to miamicanes1
Thats just 1 of the racist seanwilson523@hotmail.com
many ids
He will change up to another id to spark up another way to get attention very soon

Love the title, Manny. I can understand not wanting to give the national media any information, especially BSPN and SI, but local reporters should have more access.

electric square. you are the racist. save the U fire randy mark, miami canes 1, you are the true fans who want success at the U not a mediocre team who quits. its a shame the coach? who taught them to quit won't. save the U

to all you canes fan,who hate coach,it's all about race and you are the fans, that we as in true cane fans we don't need.go team up with one of the other fla teams.

I still believe Randy Shannon can be a good coach. He just must be willing to learn and change. Hopefully he will do both of these things. You cannot just stick with something to prove you are strong. Sometimes strong is stupid.

MiamiCanes1 must be a conservative by wishing our leader to fail. I also think there are better choices for head coach, but I want the Canes to win ever game and recruit the best players.

Has nothing to do with being a conservative. It is just another one of the many alias's the gaturd faithful have. If you want to talk politics on a Cane site, go to canespace. Ask for Canechick.

Great we have our dumba** concust QB who couldn't read a defense with a clear head helping Morris lol. PLease disregard anything jacory tells you Stephen.

Wanting Shannon out has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the fact that he is a terrible coach.

I'd switch him for Mike Tomlin right now if it were possible.

You're the real racist.

FANS NEED TO GIVE SHANNON A BREAK. I'VE WATCHED MOST OF THE GAMES ON TV THIS YEAR AND WAS ABLE TO SEE THE UVA GAME IN PERSON. THE FIRST THING I TOLD MY WIFE AFTER THE GAME WAS THAT THIS TEAM IS NOT AS TALENTED AS US FANS WANT IT TO BE. THIS IS A 8 TO 10 WINS TEAM. I THINK THAT WE WANT THIS TEAM TO BE BETTER THEN IT IS. UVA WAS MORE PHYSICAL ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL. OUR D-LINE IS AVERAGE AT BEST AND THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A STRENGTH THIS YEAR. WATCHING ESPN THIS WEEK DAVID POLLACK DID THE GAME CALL FOR THE MARYLAND GAME. HE COMMENTED ON THE SAME THING. THAT HE DID NOT SEE THE TALENT LEVEL THAT EVERYONE SEEMS TO THINK WE HAVE.

JUST SO EVERYONES AWARE:

theres 2 people(or possibly 1 who likes to argue with himself) who post 90% of whats on this blog. its a derogatory fan of another team(supposedly a gator fan) who tells people to not go to games, tells recruits to stay away, and makes offensive remarks like marble mouf, jskinny, and radio shannon... and an "alleged" cane fan who goes on every blog known to man instigating and inciting conflict from opposing teams fans. he attacks every person who criticizes the program, and writes his senseless delusions as to why our team is perfect in every way. he calls others racists, claims we aren’t true fans, and that we do nothing except tear down the players. both of which post under a million different names. Point is: enough of the division! theres too much frustration being directed at each other. Ignore the clowns. theyre both idiot losers who are trying to create a rift in the fanbase. Lets have a constructive discussion on here for once.

BACK TO THE STATE OF THE U:

There is nothing wrong with our fanbase. its just as crazy and passionate as any other bigtime schools fanbase. We aren’t unrealistic in our expectations for this football program. We expect a 10+ win team every year who plays hard and with heart. If we win the NC... GREAT!as long as we were competing for it. But what I see right now is an average team. No NC, no BCS, no ACC championship, no ACC coastal, no 10 win seasons. Instead we are a middle of the road acc team, a 9 win team at most with studious and good character players, but no fire. No proper coaching that can take us to the next level, as well as a starting quarterback whos abilities are severely limited. Experience isn’t the issue. We are led by juniors and seniors. Nor is talent. Look at what the scouts are saying. Its to be expected that there wouldn’t be large crowds when the stadium is 30 min away, is a pro stadium, tickets/parking are overpriced, and theres a lot to do in Miami. Plus the football team doesn’t play hard consistently, doesn’t play with swagger, makes mistakes, hasn’t progressed, etc. you cant expect people to show up when the product on the field has not been as fun to watch. Former players can see that something isn’t right with The U right now. Whats really funny is some people think they’re more of a cane than the great former players are and call em out when they criticize whats going on lol. The administration(and maybe not even randy considering he said NOT winning the coastal wouldn’t be a big deal) isn’t dedicated to being an elite football team and they haven’t taken steps to help the cause. They need to develop a vision and hold people accountable. (same with shannon: he preaches competition, but doesnt practice it. dont be afraid to bench players!) Stop settling for mediocre. But most of all fans (which I know the rest of you actually are), you can criticize the heck out of them,(i personally think its a good thing up to a certain point... in order to toughen them up. i think too many people baby them when theyre not performing...) but in the end support them.

you all have lost ur minds its not randy jacory whipple its the team its football its game u might have heard about it its a team game you win and lose as team if you told me randy shannon is goint to have the succses frank beamer has had even though it took till now and by now im talkin since mike vck ill wait and be patient think of these years as humble pie

Anybody other than Coker is an improvement over Shannon. Shannon may indeed be here this year and next and if he chooses Harris as his QB then that is his choice. Too bad his choice is going to be career suicide. Neither can win a championship at this level and if not after this year, then next year will be his last here. By the way shannon's wagon is broken with square wheels, so no we aren't going to ride the crazy train supporting a loser.

The trustee's do have the option of changing their minds as well. Losing and having to hear about it kinda changes a person's mind. Not to mention losing money.

What happened to the original title of this blog? What did Randy or Jacory's feelings get hurt and feel someone was picking on them. Poor babies. Somebody called our report an extremity report and made fun of us. Better call the Herald and scream racism or something stupid cause I can't blame Travis Benjamin for it this time. Or can I?

you all bought into the hype of the media and players bs what else would they say yeah i think we r gonna self implode yeah right dont be mad at the team cuz like i said its a team game so be mad at espn or whoever else pated the u on r back in the summer be mad at ur self the man never made a promise it was always 2011 u just got thier hopes up but thiers still twelve quarters left so be a fan

Oh please with the excuses, this team is full of seniors and juniors that have started since their freshman year so they should be better than what they have been. Its not the players fault, they play like they are coached. Dan Mullen has made more improvement at Mississippi State in two years than Shannon has in almost 4 years, plus he is in Starkville where the recruiting is no where as good as it is in Miami. Face it Shannon can not develop talent or win championships.

the U has plenty of money to hire a decent coach.
they have decided to not pour money to make this a top flight program.
in the short term you will save money.
long term you will have an even emptier stadium and empty suites.

do the right thing.
fire randy, let him have his payday.
get a new guy in here.
lifetime assistants make terrible head coaches.
we not only hired one, but 2.

we need to right the ship and get someone new in here.
its been 10 yrs since we have had a decent coach.

SHUT THE **** UP WITH ALL THIS FIRE RANDY ****... GO CANES!!!!!

If they would go ahead and fire him and hire us a real coach then we will shut up.

"Left tackle Orlando Franklin did end up coming to practice, but he took no reps. He is expected to play at Georgia Tech."

expect at least 3-5 false starts from this dude.

This is not about race.. is about the U.. the tradition of winning National titles most of u in this site forget about... shannon is not producing he is making things worst for our program... FIRE SHANNON and lets start again.. under shannon we are going to keep getting our a...* beat and made fun of. is that what u true fans want? i dont.. and i dont care about graduation rates either...we are not harvard

To the Canes Players and Randy: win at GT and all this stupidity on the blog quiets down.... for a day or two.. because we have the most spoiled and rude fans in the nation!

GO CANES OR GO THE F* HOME!!!

If we can't get either Jim Harbaugh from Stanford or Petrino from Arkansas, then there's nothing to talk about regarding other coaches. I don't know if the above poster is correct regarding our financial problems, but it's likely that major programs will outbid us for those two and we're hampered by the fact that we just extended Shannon for 4 years. That means he'll be coaching another year at least.

Regardless of what you think of Shannon as a coach, it is ludicrous to think he's not dedicated to winning a national championship and that he's ok with 8 win seasons and no titles. It's probably killing him more than anyone that he hasn't gotten it done. That doesn't mean he'll turn into a great coach, but keep the criticism pointed in the right direction.

I have said it before and I'll say it again...every coach you hire should get to take his first recruiting class from their freshman to senior years. That's next year for Shannon, since his first class was a patch job from Coker. You don't always go linearly from the bottom to the top. Sometimes it's 3 steps forward and 2 steps back before you finally get there. There were some misses in that first recruiting class that left holes this year where we didn't expect them. With the young guys displacing some of the failures in the first class and plugging some of the holes, who knows. Maybe next year was always more realistic.

Point is though, we're going to find out, because Shannon isn't going anywhere.

Go Canes!

Ok, we get it. You want Shannon fired. Now STFU!!!

Coming on here every damn day saying fire Shannon has got to be the most idiotic thing to do during ANY given day.

When will we be able to post under our real identities so the trolling on the entire internet can stop? Get a freaking life people! Go see your shrink, I'm sure he/she misses you.

GO CANES!!!

Now we name replacements. Like you really have a clue. You people crack me up...

Stop living your lives through others, and go live your own life. Sitting here crying about NOTHING you have control over is pathetic. Would love to get back to talking about football, and stuff that takes a little more intelligence rather than all you freaking cry babies.

Here are some points to consider:

The 80's are over.
Scholarships are now 85 instead of 125.
BSU, TCU and Utah have been going undefeated for years.
Oregon is #1 not OU, FSU, THE U, Notre Dame, Nebraska or even Alabama.
Mack Brown is losing.
Urban Meyer is losing.
Nick Saban is losing.

What else you want?

GO CANES!!!
Every year it'ds a "voted" champ instead of legit earner of the crystal.

UM does not put tuition or hospital income towards athletics and none of the big donors want their money going towards football. The entire athletic program is self sufficient, and when all the hundreds of thousands of dollars they make from the football program comes in they put it into the athletic pot.

They are going to be building a community-type "science and technology park" in overtown and a brand new multi-multi-multi-million dollar science building on the main campus to facilitate high resolution imaging of the human brain.

So yes, they do have money they could be putting towards athletics, but if you know anything about UM, you know that they won't.

360 - it's never been a legit earner, before the BCS you just had split national championships and more controversy (if that's even possible).

It seems a few people on this blog worry to much about race. I don't care if the dude is white, black, red or yellow, I just want to see improvement form week to week. The reason everyone is on Shannon, is because this team plays lack-luster. One week we look like we could beat anybody, the next we stink. It goes this way, it seems every other week. I could see if this was 2008 all over again but 85% of the guys starting are veterans. When I see the dropped passes, ints, missed fgs & extra points, not to mention poor tackling, I see a team that is not disciplined and being coached up. Big time teams play consistant football which this team does not, at least up to this point. Can they change it around the last 4 games, sure! Until that happens, Most of the true blood Cane's fans are going to gripe and call for a change. After all, I can stand only so much, Pop Warner type football and that's what I've been witnessing every other week. If Shannon and this team want to make a statement do it on the field and quit making excuses!

Not true - I don't like laplanders.

Their semi-nomadic reindeer herding lifestyle emboldens our enemies and weakens the resolve of our allies.

GO BACK TO SAPMI AND TAKE YOUR TRADITIONAL GAKTI CLOTHING AND SINEW WOVEN ANKLE WRAPS WITH YOU!!!

randy put the team together. they are randys guys so the blame should rest with him. j12 is not the answer. he was good in high school but look at the team around him. today, he can't possibly lead or inspire because he throws int after int. it is fitting that his last play as a cane is an int.

im for the new kid.

Shannon might not be going anywhere, but it doesn't mean we can't critize him. Yeah it might annoy some of you, but losing doesn't?

We're the only major college football program in South Florida....and we can't win!?!?!

Here is the formula for a future winning program: Play Spence, Cain, Miller, Morris, Berry, Henderson, B. Harris, TB, Ray Ray. Then bring back jimmy Johnson as a consultant to help with alumni stuff. let former players come back. If U know that Mike Irvin is in the hall of fame, don't U also know that he can help the program?

There is a place at the U for RS. And whipple, too, that Marc and not Spencer.

Get rid of Ford, Aldarius.

randy shannon = wade phillips

Michael Irvin is intimately involved in the promotion of UM football. He's on the promotional poster every single year.

Jimmy Johnson would have a six hour commute to come in to the Coral Gables campus every day, I don't think he has any interest in a job.
