Bridgewater latest to 'de-commit' since firing

Miami Northwestern quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, one of the stars in the University of Miami's 2011 recruiting class before Randy Shannon was fired hours after the team's loss to South Florida on Nov. 27, said Monday he's no longer committed to the Hurricanes.

Teddy Bridgewater "I'm just going to keep my options open, see who the next coach is," said Bridgewater, a U.S. Army All-American who is considered the second-best dual-threat quarterback in the country by Rivals.com.

"I can't tell you what he's going to do," Bridgewater's mother, Rose Murphy, told The Miami Herald Monday night. "because I don't think he knows what he's going to do."

Murphy told The Miami Herald her son got a visit from UM assistants Wesley McGriff and Tim Harris Sr. last week. Murphy said she believes that's when her son told UM he was planning to take official trips to other schools and was going to re-open his recruitment.

Bridgewater, who threw for 2,606 yards and 22 touchdowns in 12 games this season, has become the third UM player since Shannon's firing to de-commit from the program. Albert Louis-Jean, a standout in Brockton, Mass. considered the 12th-best corner in the country by Rivals, and Vero Beach High offensive guard Marcus Jackson, considered 13th best at his position nationally by the same publication, were the first two players to de-commit after Shannon was fired.

The Hurricanes have four remaining commitments: Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas receiver Phillip Dorsett; Tampa Alonso High defensive end Anthony Chickillo; Miami Belen linebacker Nick Menocal and Milford Prep School (N.Y.) defensive back Jeremy Davis.

UM athletic director Kirby Hocutt said the day after Shannon was fired he would honor the seven commitments. UM is only expected to have between 15 and 16 scholarships available in its next signing class.

The Hurricanes canceled their first recruiting weekend scheduled for Dec. 10-11, but still have not canceled the following weekend. Several top-tier players including Rivals' No. 1-rated receiver George Farmer (Gardena, Calif.) and No. 2-rated offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio were supposed to visit UM this weekend. Those trips to Miami have yet to be rescheduled for later dates.

The day after Shannon was fired, Chickillo, an Under-Armour Army All-American, said he had 50 phone calls and text messages from other programs trying to scoop him up. He said he remains committed to UM, but wants to see who the Hurricanes hire as coach.

"I'm still committed," Dorsett said last Friday. "It's tough. But Miami has always been my dream school. They've always been loyal to me and I'll always be loyal to them. I'm a Hurricane at heart."

Well, at least we're not the only sinking ship in America. We paid only a milli for our 7-5 record. UFelony paid over 4 milli for theirs.

I seriously doubt the next HC is going to promise TB he'll be the only QB in this class.

No news here. Move along.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, 2 Crystal Footballs and 2 Conference Rings since 2006, while Ur 20-22 verses deecent out of Conference and ACC teams ... Minus 3 Duke and 2 Wake wins, that would be a 15 and 22 record since 2007. Wanna talk about 2005 n 2006 ? Thought not.

So yeah, pretty good return on that investment up in Title Town, wouldn't U agree?

First RS should have been fired. His teams were not progressing, or developing. Second RS did a lot of good in the community, and developed true student athletes. Remember whether you guys like it or not the U is an institute of higher learning. Part of a coach's job is to graduate player, unfortunately RS didn't win games, which is also part of his job. Third, any recruiting defections hurt. It hurts because it reduces the needed influx of talent the U needs, and it hurts for future recruiting efforts. Kids go where other kids go. It also gives recruiting inroads to other coaches. So it not good. I know if I was being recruited I would like to know who the coach is of the institute I'm going to. So all these people saying let them go, we don't want them sound so idiotic. Finally, hopeful we'll get a great coach, who can recruit the right players to get the U back where it belongs; atop the BCS.

Yeah but they won 2 NCs. I would take that everytime!

TEDDYBEAR just needs to go to UF so we can beat the F...*out of him. okay cry baby go somewhere else.. u are a replica of JNOODLE... we need to have better standards.. the only thing that we are getting from Northwestern is BULL CRAP!!!!

We need to put our energy and focus on revenge versus Viriginia.

C'mon gatornation quit coming on here taking shots at the canes. We have our own problems. Looks like Urban was lying when he said he was confident in Addazio. Rumor has it we are looking at hiring the OC from Ok St.

I'll go back to biting my pillow again!............be gentle

Manny,

What's the latest on the coaching front? Has Kirby Hocutt met with anyone? What is the update? Any information would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Alex

Hello sports fans and "U" lovers, I just want to keep you up to date on the coaching search. We are in the process of luring a yet to be named coach to this once great university. As You know this search can be pain-staking and I want to get the best possible coach for your buck. As you know we are tight with our cabbage and spend it wisely. Hiring coach Shannon to sheepherd our program was a great investment for you tightwads dollar. Yes, the results weren't what we had hoped for but it didn't bust our pockets in the end. You can't fuss at me for that blunder.
I will get you tight-wads a good coach, even if I have to charge more in tuition. Just be patient and I'll try to have him in place by Jan. 1ST, when most of the bowl games are over.
The recruits who have decommitted so far are few but we only had 8 to begin with. They'll come back, if we get the right guy in here, when ever that may be.
Thanks,
Kirb

HMMMMMMMM. Alleged top 5 recruting classes last five years only to be pounded by Alabama then follow that up with a 7-5 puking? Not to good a return. Future looks bleaker than even during the Zooker years.

2 title in the last 14 years? Not a good ROI. Next year looks like more of the same triple-crap offense and no defense.

It will be a "drown your sorrows in swill" type fall in trailertown USA.

The real downfall with the mighty gaturds began with Mullen's departure. The next year Timmy leaves. Now all they have left is a three headed QB joke and Addazio's two page playbook.

Jump-pass anyone? LMAO

What Miami needs is either Butch Davis to come home or they need to hire Mario from FIU. Like I mentioned before the comparison to tressell at youngstown st. Give the man a chance to put the U back on the map.

Commits mean nothing anymore, only counts when they sign. Lot's of schools sign kids that are not highly recruited and do just fine. Need to stop coddling these kids, if you want to come to Miami come, if you don't then so long. When we don't have a coach this will happen, right guy will fix it and in the long run we will be fine. Rivals, Scout and ESPN are wrong all the time, just look at what has become of our #1 class, so much for that. Need a coach that creates leaders and not followers, we have followers right now. Stop living in fear, one kid does not make or break The U, and stop the whining I am sick of it. Look at an NFL lineup and read the schools they went to, bunch of kids that went to places you never heard of or what we consider second tier schools. Find those kids and coach them up, Ray Lewis was not highly recruited and many other greats were not either. Yes there are cant miss kids and we have to have some of them, but a great team will find some underrated gems and make them great, that is something we have not done a while. Win and they will be lining up to come to The U, that is all it takes.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Folks,

The above post say's it all.

As I posted earlier, the 'experts' all agreed that our roster was made up of the best talent certainly in the ACC and possibly in the nation. That being said, the next coaching staff has plenty of talent to work with next year (thank you Randy Shannon) and anything they add from this class would be gravy.

To the real Canes fans on this site: Be patient as Kirby does his job and come next year we will all be happy. With our enormous and athletic offensive line, stable of the best running backs in the country, a top flight receiving group and two experienced QB's our offense is going to be great. And our defense has real potential and will hopefully be more consistent.

Lots of kids decommit from schools. I am not sure Bridgewater would fit a prostyle O in terms of physical characteristics. He could develop with time however. I would like to see UM recruit a drop back passer with a strong arm and decent speed. Does Andrew Luck have any clones out there?

It is important to get the coaching issue resolved. However, if it is a name hire, we might have to wait until after bowl season. This will not help recruiting, and may shift the focus to JC players. To the kids who remain Cane commits, Canes nation salutes you!

I note that Indiana, Minnesota and Colorado have hired head coaches. However, only one of those is from a team (Oklahoma) that is yet to play their bowl game (And who isn't thrilled about the Sooners-UConn matchup?).

Let's get a coach on board ASAP and not further dimish the U, our prospects for the future and our recruiting prospects.

Our kids need hope and a positive climate in which to flourish. No more paranoia. The only "us and them" should be next week's opponent (and the refs and certain media types, of course).

And team, let's bring the fire of all the history to the UM - ND game! Canes, show your talent and your passion, because you can be assured that ND will show up for 4 full quarters and try to take it to you! GO CANES!

Per Rivals.com, Mike Leach will NOT be interviewed.

Thank you very much. I'm so glad that Kirby Hocutt is not as retarded as 99% of you morons AND doesn't give a sh*t what you idiots say/email him. Well, on to your next idiotic suggestion. Carry-on morons.

it likes the coach from temple is coming now....

Kirby is under the gun right now. What ever decision he makes, details what direction the U goes. So all U RS haters can now have somebody to not like when the wrong person is chosen.

U coaching radar: Edsall, Humlin, and yes, Cristobal. How did Cristobal blend that talent and win those games.

We should consider the coach of St Thomas Aquinas as I think they have the same budget and attendance numbers as ours and he knows the kids in South Florida.

Al Golden: Penn State grad.

Up and comer.

The good and the bad of it:

As soon as JoPa leaves Penn State. He will be on their list.

The good; he must have something, to be considered by them.

The bad; JoPa's clock is tick'n.

We need a reasonably long term commitment.

The '06 and '08 titles are a Fing joke by State of Florida standards. Not only did the refs have to set those title games up for U, even they couldn't gift you the Ole Miss game during the greatest season in UF history.

0-106 Undefeated seasons. And don't give us the SEC schedule crap, 'bama did it last year and Auburn is going to do it this year.

ADDAZIO!!!!!!!!!

Ur like the same fish that gets caught over n over again U Cane Carp... How'd it work out for U and that 2008 # 1 Recruiting Class with all those Bull Sheeters from Northwestern there Skippy? 7-5 as Freshman and 7-5 as Juniors huh? Now that's real developement there pal. Want some real facts and not dreamt up biased bullsheet delusional cane tard speak ? Those '08's got Ur pathetic head coach Sheet Canned, combine that with a below average recruiting class last year where JUST ONE guy contributed this season as a starter, so far just 6 average commits for next year (U'll finish strong when Gruden changes his mind right?), Ur 5 best players, Hankerson, Franklin, Bailey, B. Harris and Bosher are all GONE, but U want to pound Ur chest about how the Gators are in Trouble? A program that has won 13-8-13-12-7 wins the last 5 years? U seriously take stUpidity to a whole nother level Canesrule/Sotapop... U better worry about Ur house that has already crumbled around U Dummasse. Ur program is in such disarray, U can't even face the real facts as just to how urgent Duh U's situation truly is. That's delUsional at its very core U hump. Top programs, every 4-6 years, spend a year or two tops at most during the rebuilding process. Newsflash U incredible Cluck, Ur going on 8 STRAIGHT YEARS rebuilding and being completely off the relevant radar. But wait til next year, right ? To refresh U, knowing Ur attention span is limited, Ur coming off another failed season, AGAIN, looking for a new Coach, again, and NO Head Coaches with half a resume WORTH A DAMN are lining up to take over that no facility, no Stadium, no fan base, no direction program... AGAIN ... DO U EVEN GET THE DIRE URGENCEY of Ur present situation? Well Do U ?

But, U keep doing what U do best these next 4 years U dumb Cluck ...Let The Gators fill Ur noodle daily, hope other teams beat them to make Ur winless day better and continue to be delusional as to actually what is truly going on down in that shytdump in the Gables while lapping up all the Kirby n Donna and other blinder wearing Canespacehead dopes feed U.

Peeeeeeeeeeee U... Going on 10 years of Stank. Must be a Cane Thang.

ps- Got Driskell ? No ? Gotta tell U... he's certainly no Jacory...

btw- Who's going to win the Heisman next year? J-35 or SM-8 (4 games) ?

think a young JOSH McDANIEL would make a great college coach at the U, he runs a pro style OFF. seems to be a smart young man and is a BELICHICK man. i think it be worth checking out he's as good a choice as the other names for the job .

Like trash to trailers, Sean Wilson will use the time frame that best suits the Gatard argument. 3 in 14 years. Wow, Canes have 2 in 20. So for all your posturing and throat-clearing about resources, recruits, money, etc., that is exactly one more championship. Big deal. Seems Gatard trash is not getting a good ROI.

Next year? More of the same. Beat down by South Carolina. LSU will pound you. Bama or Auburn will too. Ditto for FSU.

It truly sucks, to be, a Florida Gatard.

Mike Leach gets my vote. We need to score points, period. He will make it happen. Nobody else wants the job anyway, same as when Coker was fired. Randy wasn't the first choice to replace Coker, but he wanted the job.

Wasn't Brantley Driskell before Driskell? How did that turn out? Patchan? Weren't you the same 'tard who claimed he had practiced with the ones in August when in actuality he was injured all year and did not see the field?

You are a dope, Sean. A loser. You are the blog cartoon. Your life must really suck.

I can tell you, however, if your address is ever posted, I am coming to find you. Always check under your car before you get in. You know, someone may be hiding under the El Camino waiting to do you harm.

The Mickey vs. Minnie bowl, pitting UF v Psu, two programs on a steep decline, will not sell out because lack of interest fro Gaturd faithful. Thi despite the less than two hour trip by bus to Orlando from Trailetrashtown USA. Fake Kehoe is getting slapped at SS site and Steve has hit his mute. Button.

Dope post of the day goes to that formely muted mutant the entire last month ... U guessed it. Canesfool, once again comparing anything Canes, to ALL things Gators ...

Have fun playing Ur 2010 Seasons Bowl game, in the year 2010, again U Dope.

Be seeing ya again after New Years.

Place holds 51,500 ... There will be 51K Notre Dame Fans there. 7,500 with Miami alloted tickets ... Congrats Cane Nation. U should be so proud. One of the most attractive bowl games of all, CBS will be basking in the highest Nielsen’s after Oregon vs. Auburn. Can’t wait to sample some real Mexican food in El Paso. Cane Nation is about to overrun the State of Texas like the Cotton Bowl against Texas just a few years back. Hope it won’t be as cold for this game.

Are the State Chumps Fightin’ Turds from Trailertown USA in a bowl game? What about State Champ Noles?

Is there such a thing a mexican meatloaf?

Hmmmmm meatlaof

DAVE WANNESTADT is available - let's bring him home Kirby!!!!!!!!!!!

We need to reach out and bring Butch back to town or go after Mario. Like I said tressell was at youngstown st before he went to ohio st so give Mario a shot.

Mullen about to extend at Miss St., looks like we're on to the next candidate. I guess it's Edsall. We're getting close to Cristobal and Leach territory.

Help!

I am obsessed with the comments section of a newspaper blog, and I cannot seem to get a job or a life because of it.

Please, send me some advice on what to do with this problem to SeanWilson523@hotmail.com.

Hurry, I might have to change that address if my mother finds out I was on a computer again.

Why do some of you morons constantly talk either about the gators or racist on this site. I could see talking about the dam Gators if we were playing them or some dope got on here and wanted to defame the "U" but even, just ignore it. Really all we should have to talk about now is who the hell am I going to hire as your next coach. Are we going to be able to get recruits back on board with us. How many of you are coming to support us at the Sun Bowl.

Damn there are a lot of losers on here. Don't u losers have jobs or a life? All u do is come here and talk shyt to one another like some teenage girls. All u gys are some queers.

A dollar to a donut.

It's Tuberville or Phillies McDermott, period!

Or maybe Edsall, or . . .

if Leach is the coach, do you think he recruits Bridgewater? I don't think so.

Posted by: Canesjunkie | December 07, 2010 at 09:54 AM

Ahh, dude the AD already addressed that he'll honor all of em' 7 commits, so it does not matter who the next coach is, those guys can come if they choose to.

Look I collect coins and stamps so I have a job. You should be aiming venom at Sean Wilson the racist blogger. He claims that we lost Bridgewater who I predicted would beat the Gators in 2013 by himself.

teddybear is full of bull crap....he is the JNOODLE clone... go somewhere else punk... ur not the real miami deal

kirbycostcutter/sean
shut your cakehole and never post here again
go back to your gator blog where you belong fatboy

Bridgewater would be the kind of QB Leach would love. (spread-shotgun).

Hey Twinkie I'm not in the same boat as your boy Sean.

Of course hes not Sean
Hes just another clueless bandwagon fan that claims to know everything about Miami football
You can be sure he has never been to one of Teddys football games but has still figured out what type of QB he is going to be
And like every other Miami fan that acts like him, you know hes never been to any Miami games either

I guess you missed this Troll. Care to comment about UF's pathetic record...in ANY era?

Remember that last "dive" of Tebow's at the end of the Ole Miss game in '08? Classic! And the plaque they hung on The Dump to commemorate the event? Pathetic!

What's UF's record against UM over the 20 years U say UM has been down? Exactly!

GOT UNDEFEATED?

I totally agree with Orlando Cane and Canes Fan. Like I said before, we only have 15 scholarships to work with and the recruits who really want to go to UM are comming for UM ! Menocal, Davis, and Dorsett so I'm not worried. Finding the right coach who is going to be committed to Miami is more important this offseason and if the right coach is found, the recruits will come. Alot of you have no clue on COLLEGE football not sell your soul to Mike Leach football and like I also said before, the kids who decommitted are just that impressionable kids who see all the hot schools on tv and want to go there but Bridgewater, Jackson, and Louis-Jean said they are going to wait and see who the new coach will be so all is not lost but you fools want to bash them and call them all kinds of names. If the right coach is found, I think Bridgewater comes back. His mom has had an illness and I'm sure he would like to be close to her. Let's get the proper coaches here first !! I'll wait ! The talent is there, we just need good coaches.

Sean, why don't you post as Curse anymore, you sick blog Pig?

You are a one-trick pony, Pig. Or should I say Sean the Pig?

U better worry about Ur house that has already crumbled around U Dummasse. Ur program is in such disarray, U can't even face the real facts as just to how urgent Duh U's situation truly is. That's delUsional at its very core U hump.

Well, do U, no Coach U ?

Manny, why can't you have a chat when it says that you are going to have one. You have not had one since October. That is almost two months.

If you either do not want to have one or are too busy, tell the Miami Herald to stop listing that you are having one.

Bridgewater, thats all he is Bridge with water, eroding it,go to hell

How's that fence Ur building around S. Florida coming along Cane Clucks?

Hey, maybe the 50 or so of U Tards that are actually making the trek back to the Ol Country El Paso to veeeeesit relitives at theeee border can take some peeeeectures of the feeeeeence for some constructions ideas...

Ur feeeeence has beeeeeen breeeeached in N. Habana .

Ahhhhhh Speeeeeeecs and Meeeeeeeks together again in the "Whose ore Irrelevant Bowl"

Maybe U can get Randy to write up a Hallmark Post card for the occasion .

How's that Undefeated Season Ur building up in Gainesville "D" Bag?

Doesn't look like Auburn and Alabama had any trouble pulling off the feat, and they play in the REAL SEC! Not that abortion you call the East!

What's the o/u on Meyer's "Great Escape" this year?

Do you want to take Tebow's plaque down, or should I?

What's it like to be the only school in Florida to NEVER reach the promised land?

What do you tell your kid's when they ask you why UM has a better head to head record than UF?

If UM is down over the last 20 years, then what does UF's 1-7 record against UM over the same period of time say about U?

ADAZZIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

U enjoy that "The 21st. Century Who's More Irrelevant Bowl" game now U hear ?

Gainesville makes list of 25 smartest cities

Portfolio.com unveiled its list of the smartest metropolitan areas in the country last week, and Gainesville made the top 15. To boot, Gainesville was deemed Florida’s smartest city, beating out Tallahassee, which ranked 34th nationwide.

The rankings were based on Census data for education and income, tallying how much of the city’s population had higher-education degrees, how many were high school dropouts, etc. For its study, Portfolio defined a Gainesville market that spilled outside of the city limits and had a population of 259,587. (The publication has posted a .pdf of the full 200-market rankings and a slideshow of the top 25.)

22. Outback (Jan. 1): Florida (7-5) vs. Penn State (7-5). I know this one sounds glamorous, but Florida's offense has been dreadful and Penn State's hasn't been much better. At least we don't have to watch Florida's 15 extra practices.
