Bridgewater latest to 'de-commit' since firing

Miami Northwestern quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, one of the stars in the University of Miami's 2011 recruiting class before Randy Shannon was fired hours after the team's loss to South Florida on Nov. 27, said Monday he's no longer committed to the Hurricanes.

Teddy Bridgewater "I'm just going to keep my options open, see who the next coach is," said Bridgewater, a U.S. Army All-American who is considered the second-best dual-threat quarterback in the country by Rivals.com.

"I can't tell you what he's going to do," Bridgewater's mother, Rose Murphy, told The Miami Herald Monday night. "because I don't think he knows what he's going to do."

Murphy told The Miami Herald her son got a visit from UM assistants Wesley McGriff and Tim Harris Sr. last week. Murphy said she believes that's when her son told UM he was planning to take official trips to other schools and was going to re-open his recruitment.

Bridgewater, who threw for 2,606 yards and 22 touchdowns in 12 games this season, has become the third UM player since Shannon's firing to de-commit from the program. Albert Louis-Jean, a standout in Brockton, Mass. considered the 12th-best corner in the country by Rivals, and Vero Beach High offensive guard Marcus Jackson, considered 13th best at his position nationally by the same publication, were the first two players to de-commit after Shannon was fired.

The Hurricanes have four remaining commitments: Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas receiver Phillip Dorsett; Tampa Alonso High defensive end Anthony Chickillo; Miami Belen linebacker Nick Menocal and Milford Prep School (N.Y.) defensive back Jeremy Davis.

UM athletic director Kirby Hocutt said the day after Shannon was fired he would honor the seven commitments. UM is only expected to have between 15 and 16 scholarships available in its next signing class.

The Hurricanes canceled their first recruiting weekend scheduled for Dec. 10-11, but still have not canceled the following weekend. Several top-tier players including Rivals' No. 1-rated receiver George Farmer (Gardena, Calif.) and No. 2-rated offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio were supposed to visit UM this weekend. Those trips to Miami have yet to be rescheduled for later dates.

The day after Shannon was fired, Chickillo, an Under-Armour Army All-American, said he had 50 phone calls and text messages from other programs trying to scoop him up. He said he remains committed to UM, but wants to see who the Hurricanes hire as coach.

"I'm still committed," Dorsett said last Friday. "It's tough. But Miami has always been my dream school. They've always been loyal to me and I'll always be loyal to them. I'm a Hurricane at heart."

Gainesville makes list of 25 smartest cities
by Chad Smith

ADDAZIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave it to a fan from the only school in Florida to NEVER go undefeated to trot in here with census data about crap that has nothing to do with going undefeated in football!

How much are you paying Meyer again? Seems to me that money would have been better spent making sure Mullen didn't take the REAL playbook to Miss State!

ADDAZIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trolls love coming to the Cane blogs. They enjoy our news more than their own pathetic schools. If things were so great at their own school, they probably wouldn't have time to be on here. I guess Sean doesn't have enough to do as a diehard member of the Justin Beiber fan club.

Nice job gaturd. Keep quoting, who is that again, portfolio.com? LMAO! Print that out and send it to Addazio. He can use it for page three in his Playbook!

I think one of Gainesville's most intelligent acts was the decision to burn Quran's.

...or when the UF football player stole that wallet off a dead person......yeah, that was really intelligent too.

Gainesville is just overflowing with intelligence.

Don't tase me bro!

I agree....Morris will possibly be the starter for three years....why should Bridgwater come here....for the better...trust me...no more QB'S from NW...to skinny...Bridgewater sits the bench behind Morris...

once again-MLeach. with the talent that is on this team with the speed and his offense what an exciting product UM would have to sell. Give him credit for winning at TxTech with little help from the adminstration and not having the recruiting base that UM has. He graduates his players, no drug arrests, and not one player has been critical of him-other than James dad who is a meddler and expected preferential treatment for his son.

If UM is down over the last 20 years, then what does UF's 1-7 record against UM over the same period of time say about U?

Posted by: The Gipper | December 07, 2010 at 07:06 PM

It says that for 12 of those 20 years Florida and Miami didn't play because U backed out of joining the SEC after initially agreeing to do so. Instead U stayed hidden in the BIG LEAST, that pizzzz poor league U boast about going undefeated in? U clucks hold onto that one like it's Ur useless baby blanket that's time to let go of. It's beyond weak, even for a Cane clod. Then U had another chance to join the Big Boys, but ran to the B-Ball Conference ACC and Big Sister of the Big Least to carry on Ur Fraud of a MAJOR POWER football program where U have done exactly jack squat since whimpering in 7 yrs. ago. And I'm not saying U ran from the Gators, U RAN FROM THE OVER ALL COMPETITION. That's a fact that ALL College Presidents and A.D.'s across the Country know it, but U'd never admit it because by doing so U would disprove Ur false bravado of, ANYONE, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME. (which by the way, a dozen other teams used that same cry for years before Mira Sr., Kelly or Kosar got curly hair number one). But the blind visionaries that were Ur Prez, A.D., Alumni Dir. and trustess of Miami thought the EASIEST and most logical road for ALL Miami SPORTS teams was the ACC and it was a monetary mistake. (btw plenty of U wussy Canes fans were calling to head back to the Bid East on ALL forums/blogs these past 2-3 weeks because the ACC was just to tough and the ACC Refs have it out for U. The refs again huh? And U know who U are Mr. n Mrs. anytime, anyplace, anywhere hypocrites... So now Ur stuck in Mediocrity in a mediocre Conference and any of U with any sort of self realization and honesty knows it. U made it, lay in it. It's what U are.

Just what have U done lately ?

Last Football meeting? 23 point Win Gators.

CHECK

Last Basketball meeting? 20 point Win Gators.

CHECK

Last 2 Post Season Baseball Meetings, Regional/Super ?

CHECK, CHECK, CHECK, CHECK,

Ur ohhh for Ur last 6 U time warped tick. Join us in the 21st. Century anytime.

Welcome to the here n now U Fool.

Any more kids decommit since 4:30? Jeez, U only have 4 left huh ? Yup, strrrong Head Coachless Football Program U have going on down there Skippy. And it ain't getting any better til after last years Recruiting class moves on.

That High profile Homerun Head Coaching search ?

Gruden- U gullible dopes- U were the violin and Chucky was the string genius
Peterson- nope, no chance
Paterson- naw, no way
Whittington- try again
Mullen- thanks for the 500k a year re-up
Edsall- will recruit, but not live in Miami
Leach- DESPERATE, good fit for U @ Desperation U
Cristobol- Better gig @ better rising program
Rabbit out of a hat- Abracadabra ... Nada, zip, zilch
Randy again- some of U that have mentioned it. sadder, U mean it
Wannestache ? Good luck, he's all Urs.

Wannestache is on line 1 with Kirby. Enjoy.

pssssssssssst, Ur 33-23 since 2006 ... 2-FAMU-UCF-S.Fla. Wins each. Charleston S., Marshall, FIU wins plus 4 over Duke and 2 over Wake... Ready for the real math there U blind moron?

yup='s That's 18-23, over 5 years verses barely decent out of Conference and ACC competition ! EXPLAIN THAT U Windless Hurricanes ? I won't even go into record verses ranked, road ranked and the ZERO Signature wins...

But, lemme guess, U would have given Randy another year right ? Because Duh U has the best talent in the country right? Jesus, do U people live in a Cocaine snow globe down @ Sun-tan U ?Do U even remotely halfway realize just how stupid U and Ur fellow clueless caniacs sound by even mentioning that nonsense in public with total conviction? Obviously not. To the insane, the sane are insane but U are certifiable.

But U want to puff up and pop off about 1987 and 1991 ? Ur kidding right? What are U. a Notre Dame fan of the mid-80's teleported into 2010 ? God, U two fan bases will hit it off great out in Texas and Chicago in 2012. Ur both relic mirror, has been past images of Urselves. And that, is pathetic. Especially when Ur the last to realize it.

Now go and break out the white loafers n linen jacket U mid-80's, O.B. still in denial final game watching Cane Switeks ...

Ole Miss 2008, that's not "back", and that's the best you've ever dished up!

UM could have trouble finding right coach

'Canes job not as appealing to some as a decade ago

Coral Gables — The first person Miami Hurricanes Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt pursued after firing Randy Shannon a week and a half ago was Jon Gruden.

That didn't work out, but it showed how high Hocutt is aiming for a new coach.

Whether he'll actually be able to make that home run hire many associated with the program feel he needs to and expect he will is another issue. Money won't be a problem, Hocutt has said.

But some believe the Miami job simply isn't as appealing as it was when Butch Davis left for the NFL a decade ago. Shortly after Shannon's firing, Mark May said on the air that Miami "is not a marquee program," adding, "This is not 2001. It's not 2002. It's 2010."

Still, fellow ESPN analysts Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler said on a conference call Monday they believe Miami remains "an elite job" for coaches.

"There are some challenges that are very obvious that you have to deal with that are a little different from some of your other elite jobs," Herbstreit said, noting UM's facilities compared to those of top programs, as well as the distance from campus to Sun Life Stadium and poor home attendance.

"I'm not saying that's a deal-breaker," Herbstreit said of the latter two, "but if I'm a coach that's definitely a concern."

Fowler said the situation won't be easy for whoever steps in as Shannon's successor.

"Finding someone who can maintain what he was able to achieve with his team off the field and win more games and win championships and do it with a flashy offense that's going to capture attention is very, very difficult," Fowler said. "And that's perhaps why there aren't people lining up for it. Coaches are very aware of that set of challenges."

Andy Staples, senior writer for SI.com, said Miami is "a great job" for the right person.

"If you're already at a school that has great facilities and great booster support, great fan support and a lot of money, then no, it's not a good job for you," Staples said. "But if you're an up-and-coming coach who wants to win, who might be in a place that is kind of a lower-tier school that will not ever compete for a national championship, then you'd be crazy not to take it."

It's hard to know the level of interest in UM from the candidates on Hocutt's list. More should be known the next few days.

Hocutt expected to speak to some candidates in New York, where he was Tuesday for the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame awards dinner, an event attended by the nation's top coaches and athletic directors. Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, who along with Connecticut's Randy Edsall is believed to be at the top of the list, was among those who planned to attend.

Longtime former UM assistant coach Don Soldinger, who would like to see UM hire Mike Leach, believes "it's going to be hard to attract" many coaches who aren't familiar with the dynamic in Miami.

"It's very different than any other college atmosphere," Soldinger said. "It's not like Florida. It's not like a Florida State. It's not like Clemson. Mississippi State, which is in the middle of nowhere, has better facilities, better crowds than Miami."

To stress his point, Soldinger added of Mullen, "Why isn't he interested in Miami?"

Mullen's interest in UM isn't known, though he did say Sunday he's working on a new contract with Athletic Director Scott Stricklin and plans on being at MSU "for a long time."

Herbstreit said Miami needs a coach that will come in and "win big."

"There's a personality they've got to be able to find that fits Miami," Herbstreit said. "Butch Davis — if I were to look for a blueprint of what I would try to shoot for, that type of coach: a guy who can motivate, who can be a disciplinarian, who can be a father figure.

"If you can find a guy that can fill all those needs and you can put a good staff together and you're able to recruit, Miami will be right back to winning championships."

.

It's only just beginning Cane Fan ... Put on Ur seatbelt. It'll get a lil bumpy ...

One of the greatest teams in UF history had arguably one of the worst teams in UM history "on the ropes", deep into the 4th quarter, at home, in front of 90 "large" at the Swamp...10-3...

(((((((((((((((crickets)))))))))))))))

ADDAZIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Longtime former UM assistant coach Don Soldinger, who would like to see UM hire Mike Leach, believes "it's going to be hard to attract" many coaches who aren't familiar with the dynamic in Miami.

U got that right Donnie ...

(((((((((BUZZARDS))))))))))

Call me when UF finds a coach that can put together a Perfect Season, worthy of admiration in a state that demands perfection from their champions.

106 tries (YEARS) later...Swing and another miss...

"It's very different than any other college atmosphere," Soldinger said. "It's not like Florida. It's not like a Florida State. It's not like Clemson. Mississippi State, which is in the middle of nowhere, has better facilities, better crowds than Miami."

And yet UM owns every significant college football record in the Great State of Florida. It's not even close.

Got Undefeated?????????????????????????

ADDAZIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We dont need bridgewater go after brisett from dwer he is better maybe will get oleary with him.bridgwater isnt as good as harris or morris now he shows he is a guitter and his word is no good anybody who decommitts is a losser we dont need them.

Don't want Bridgewater anyway. He's a great HIGH SCHOOL quarterback. I'd rather see him as a WR in college. He'll never be a top college QB. You can take that to the bank.

I think Oleary is going to FSU. I'm really not too concerned with this class. It's a small one. I'm just glad Kirby is taking his time and not rushing to make a hire. It would be nice to have a good coach here for 10 years or more. Joe Rose is supposed to have Leach on tomorrow morning. I think they should at least be thorough and interview the guy. My picks in order of preference:

Butch Davis
Terry Bowden
Tommy Tuberville
Mike Leach

Big Papa you're right on target with the talent at WR what the U needs is a passer like the kid from Stanford not a guy who is an accomplished jump ball passer. That's a luxury not a championship strategy. In my heart I'd luv coach Harbaugh but if there was a chance in hell that he'd leave Stanford Michigan would've fired Rich Rod a while ago. Think Norv Turner, Edsall, or ...and I can't believe I'm suggesting this but Dave Wanstedt would be good at the U with that talent base.
I can't beleive I typed Wanstedt being from chicago but I think that he's a better coach than he showed at Pitt and he's not really an NFL level HC so b4 i get attacked I know he sucked with the Dolphins.

Miami firing Randy Shannon was a mistake all along! The players coming out of Miami come out of the inner-city. No football coach in America understand this culture!! Whomever becomes the next Miami Hurricane need to control the psychology of these players and help them graduate!! or ELSE Miami will get in trouble with the NCAA!!! as Thug U!!!

Out of the names supposedly being strongly considered I like Edsall, Mullen, Harbaugh, and tuberville with Harbaugh being my top choice. Hocutt should offer Harbaugh the sun, moon, and stars to come here. Sumlin would be a huge mistake!!! He is another Shannon but I doubt he get's the job anyway. Al Golden is another guy who they should definitely consider. Get to work Kirby we need to start firming up recruiting and start to focus on the team again. Don't let this drag out any longer! Identify the guy you want and go after him and get the deal done already!!!!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jim-Harbaugh-for-The-U/181347108546490

OUT OF ALL THE CANDIDATES WHO ARE SOMEWHAT POSSIBLE...

TOP 2:

1. jim harbaugh
2. butch davis

OTHERWISE:

3. mark richt
4. tommy tuberville
5. bobby petrino

IF NOT, THESE WOULD SUFFICE:

6. greg shiano
7. gus malzahn
8. dan mullen
9. mario christobal
10. randy edsall

THE REST WOULD BE BAD HIRES. INCLUDING LEACH.

Oralando Cane this is not the non internet days my man. Recruiting is covered very well and your not going to find hidden gems anymore. Well you wont find as many as we had in the early 2000's. Geez people kill me with these hidden gems and coaching them up talk, Bro this is 2010 andwe havethe internet, if we did not have the net than guys will fly under theradar but not anymore. Anyway I have confidence in any coach we get because he will be a way better gameday coach than RS. RS recruited OK and it showed on the field, or he recruited good and couldnt develope the kids. We will find out next year if the kids that he recruited were as good as advertised if the next coach can take them to the next level. RS really screwed up at the QB pos the most important spot. Promising kids they would start like J12 and TB, we should recruit heavy at QB ala USC when Pete was there, create comp at that spot and everything will fall into place. Dont settle on Morris find more QB's that know how to run plays under center and that are not just spread QB's. Its like RS recruited spread QB's and wanted ti implement a pro offense, that equals disaster at the position. Give me Butch or Tubby and this program will be turned around next year with guys who know how to run elite programs.

Wow, Sean "the Curse Pig" Wilson has free time on his hands. Not much going on at Greynolds Park Maintenance crew these days.

Trailerville top 25 "smartest" cities? If by "smart" you really mean loaded with trailertrash then, yes, it is. Otherwise, there are 25 college and Silicon Vallet towns just in CA which blow Trailerville away.

Typical insecure Gatard trash. Making up statistics to cover the trailerpark and large public diploma mill.

What will Gatard trash do when Urban quits again? Or will it be Billy D? Can't keep track of the quitting coaches dying to leave that roach trap.

Travis why would Sumlin be a mistake ? His offenses have been productive just like lock a boy in the closet Leach. Or is it he of the wrong color barrier for you ? Not that I think he is at the top of UM's wish list. As for all this J12 bashing, I guess now that all the Shannon Bashers got their wish it's time to go to J12. Look he made poor decisions but when he was winning big games, alot of you fools would have worn pink shoes just like him if he did make it to the Hiesman presentation. I'm sure it's going to be an open competition in the spring and summer and may the best QB get the job but whoever it will be BOTH will be better coached.

Cane360, the Gators 5 losses were to teams that are all currently ranked. Gators didn't lose to USF and wouldn't have lost to Virginia.

Meyer is the only head coach in FL with a NC, and he's got 2 in the last 5 years, he's well worth his salary.

Like I've said all along - next season will be U of M's worst season EVER. Look what's happening now: 4 possible recruits changing their minds because of the disgraceful way they treated Coach Shannon. And don't expect any kind of game at this bowl with Notre Dame -without Coach Shannon, the Canes football team will be BLOWN OUT OF THE WATERS!!!. Next football season, expect to see a whole lot of players either decommitting, not coming to U of M, transfer and be willing to sit out a year rather than keep playing for a sorry staff without Shannon, or at best, play below mediocre. If this ship gets right before 2020 in football, it will be a miracle!!!! And Shalala, Holcott, and the Shannon haters will only have themselves to blame.

Dave Wansteadt from Pittsburgh just resigned. He coached the dolphins and was on Jimmy Johnson staff here at the U during the hay days. Miami is a lot better place to be during the winter than PA. Will see what happens

Honestly....... Bridgewater needs to go to Vi Tech or someplace else. Miami doesn't need another WAY undersized quarterback and we sure as heck don't need a friggin quarterback that likes to think he's a runningback on the side. " Duel threat " QB's won't win you a championship, ask Micheal Vick. Find a real quarterback. South Florida QB's don't cut it. They need to recruit a QB out of the west coast or midwest or even the south east. Pretty much anywhere except south Florida.

Gainesville included in america's smarters cities? LOL. that bodes poorly for america. Was that stat complied before the Quran burnings or after? Before Dont tase me bro or after? pre or post Channing Crowder?

ha ha ha ha. Trying to rationalize his reason for living.

believe me. Gainesville is a dump. Nice if you like a land locked shole surrounded by rednks and farms. Cows chickesn and pigs, and yes, gator bumper stickers on pick up trucks.

"Florida lost to 5 ranked teams" and "Florida would not have lost to Virginia and beat USF" If that is the most pathetic statement I have ever heard. IS that why Gainesville is the samrtest town?

well, UM beat Pitt who beat USF. What does that tell you?

Finally, for the Gainseville faithful: Timmy Teblow's status at Denver is in limbo now that his second boyfriend (after he and Urban broke up) Josh McDaniels was fired. Oh No. Could it be? Could it be that people are now realizing what everyone knows, that the Gimmicky Gainseville offense produces crappy NFLers? When was the last time a gainseville-U player scored a TD in the NFL?

Sean Wilson walked into a bar, and ordered a beer.

The artender asked for ID, and Sean pulled out a picture of a pig.

The bartender said "I want YOUR ID, not your mother's!"

He was kicked out of the bar, and wnet home to steal IDs like Gators steal bloody credit cards.

Hopefully our new coach has the guts to tell SHALAYA , the fat ugly one, that he will recruit and run the football team his way and winning football games is the priority not graduation rates!

Shut up and get back in the kitchen.

If the Hurricanes don't sign Mike Leach, Butch Davis, Tommy Two-tone, or Pe/atterson, they would have been better off keeping Shannon.

None of these "up and comers" that currently make up the list are going to be able to recruit like Shannon.

You're absolutely right. Kirby had no plan and fell to the opinion of the masses. Now recruiting is taking a serious beating. Please please please let's go after Vince Lombardi's great grandson, Tyrone Luscious Lombardi. He can also build depths and is very down with the kids from da streets

All you posters who want to jump on Hocutt have absolutely no clue as to what he is doing, who he has talked with and who he plans to speak to, you have no clue as to who is interested and who isn't, you want a PR disaster named Leach...there is so much ignorance posted on this board that I read it just to get a good laugh.

Al Cane your are just plain ignorant and your post prove it to be so. What a bunch of losers. LMAO.

Is that you Kirby or the racist Sean Wilson?

There's no doubt Florida sucked this year @ 7-5 (all-ranked teams), we all know this ... FSU the last 3-4 years as well. So tell me just what has Ur EXCUSE/REASON been the past 5-6 years in The City Beautiful ?

Can't answer a simple question or U have no answers, just more of the same excuses ?

Let me guess, U have to revert back to 5>3 right ?

Did anyone hear Herbie on Joe Rose this morning. He said that he's been asked by several coaches about the UM position. He said if the Canes were to get any of them, it would be real exciting down here.

I wonder if we could get Wikileaks to find out who these coaches are?

Nahh, Sean, you stuck pig. I like 26>25.

The difference in the records is that if the crap you peddle all year is true, i.e. that UFelony's recruits are all 5 star studs, then there is no excuse for 7-5. You post ad nauseum about how Miami's recruits are all 2 and 3 star so a poor record is understandable, from your point of view.

But 7-5? No excuse, even for trailertrash like yourself.

Sorry, Sean. Now, please give me the address to your trailer so I can visit.

donna s. and kirby need to do the right thing and get leech stop wasting time. Tthey're are so caught up with image that they won't hire a coach because he punished a kid for doing something wrong and his dad made a stink about it bcause he has a job at espn. go get leech

ok...what about dave wannstedt? he just resigned from pitt and he is a former cane assistant, also hear tommy tuberville is interested. i don't know how it would work, but now that josh mcdaniels is available, could they take a look at him also? i like the idea of a coach from the "glory days" but i think that's what's gotten us into this mess. we have to move forward and be a national force, not just be a has been that can't move on from the fact that college ball has changed, kids have changed and everything's just changed. we have talent, now it's time to find someone that's going to DEVELOP the talent. you have to give randy credit because he found the talent, there's no denying that. now someone's gotta mold that talent to win. look at the NFL, every team has talent. all those guys were all americans, all conference or whatever, even the guys on the worst teams in the league. coaching is so vital to all of this and hopefully when dr shalala and AD hocutt back up the brinks truck to pay megabucks, hopefully the do it to the door of a coach who can actually COACH and has a plan and good assistants who can also coach!

Posted by: Try to concentrate on the year 2010 and forward | December 08, 2010 at 11:40 AM

Why are you even here? Nothing better to do than troll cane sites? Still coming here after your team had the same record as the Canes? At least were doing something about it. You on the other hand are stuck with Addazio, the dive play, and your three headed QB attack......

Sean, it is easy to spot a loser argument when:

1. a loser starts one, i.e. someone like you; or

2. whenever it starts with "at least," as in "At least the Gatard's 5 losses were to ranked teams."

You lost, Gatard trash. Hyped recruits bring higher expectations so losing to ranked teams only means the Gatard recruting hype was garbage, much like what lurks between your mother's legs.

You are a Pig, Sean.

Anyone we get will be better then RS.

Well since UF needs a coach now - who will get the better one?

Let's see whose program is more favorable in the public eye?

I couldn't have said it better myself. That's the reason I come here. To see how unbelievably stupid people are and everytime I think they can't get any dumber, they just prove me wrong, over and over again. It's quite entertaining. Morons.

Good. I've had enough with these thin running backs who can make a few throws. I want a big, tall pro-style stand in the pocket type of QB. This is QB-U, but when was the last time we had a good one?!
