Canes could end up without QB in '11 class

Teddy Bridgewater is taking his talents to Louisville, Ky.

The nation's No. 2 dual threat quarterback and a top recruiting priority for the University of Miami before Randy Shannon was fired decided over the weekend according to his mother he will be following his Miami Northwestern teammate and favroite receiver Eli Rogers to Cardinals Country. Both players were recruited by former UM recruiting coordinator Clint Hurtt.

"Man, more than anything it came down to playing time," Bridgewater told Scout.com "With me enrolling early I can come in and compete for a starting spot. When I visited I had nothing but love from all the coaches but especially coach Hurtt and coach [Charlie] Strong."

Bridgewater was committed to UM until about a week after Shannon was fired. His mother, Rose Murphy, was unhappy with the way Hurricanes fans reacted to her son de-committing from UM. "Every kid has to look out for what is best for them," Murphy said. "Teddy is a great kid, hardworking kid. He doesn't deserve all that hate."

Bridgewater was once considered the centerpiece to UM's 2011 signing class. But the Hurricanes may not end up signing a quarterback in this class at all. Most of the best ones have long been committed to other programs.

> The Hurricanes picked up their first commitment under new coach Al Golden over the weekend when 6-6, 280-pound prep school defensive lineman Olsen Pierre announced he was going to be part of the class.

Pierre, a former Temple commitment at Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy, visited UM over the weekend with three other players: Brockton, Mass. cornerback Albert-Louis Jean, Vero Beach High offensive guard Marcus Jackson and Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic High punter Spencer Roth.

"I had the best time of my life," Pierre told Canesport.com of his visit. "[Golden] recruited me to Temple, and I'm the only one from Temple that he's taking with him here. He's been recruiting me since my freshman year [at Rahway High School in New Jersey], saw me grow."

Louis-Jean's father said his son will announce his final decision at a press conference at school on Jan. 5. Jackson's recruiting coordinator Pete LeDuke said last week he would make his final decision at the Under Armour All-American Game in St. Petersburg on Jan. 5.

Big Shot Bot,

First you need to know, last year Shannon used all of his scholarships for 2010 and half of this years.

This means:

We have 15 total scholarships to offer this year. So, in reality we have a bunch of top quality redshirt freshmen coming available for next year. That's a very good thing.

So, we went from 7 commits - lost Teddy his boy friend and another that left us with 4 before the Golden hire. Since, we've added 1 and along with the known recruits that showed up Saturday
there were 10 surprise recruits show up. That's never happened before, here or else where. That's a very good thing, too.

"You can come here and win with Us
or go elsewhere and get beat by Us."

he wont win anything in the big east we are probably better off without him

Mephistopheles,

I agree. Very good point.

See ya! Dont know why we were recruting him anyways. Sounds like he was leaving even if RS was staying. Dont need kids who dont want to be here. Look at FL, Meyer's gone but kids are staying. A kid wants to be here or he doesn't. We need a QB in this class. Golden has some work to do. Saw a report that the top OL from Dematha replaced Miami with Auburn in his top five.

Besides, any kid at 18 who whines b/c he wants to play w/ his friends is a douche and is scared. And then to top is off his mama is out fighting his battles for him. Teddy knows we are playing grown up football not powder puff right? Kid needs to grow up!

Jacory Harris clone...RUN...RUN...RUN for the hills!

Bottom line is that TB left because Golden started recruiting another QB. I don't know what kids are thinking these days. You are not guarantee a starting position or even playing time because of what you may have done in high school. You are given a chance to compete for job and whom ever is best will win. We don't need players with this kind of attitude here. This is part of the reason why our "top recruits" did not translate to wins on the field. Come to The U and if you're the best, you will play. We cannot be taking kids who are afraid of competition.

Come on folks, leave Bridgewater alone. He made his decision and I for one wishing well. I don't know enough about him but hey he was loyal to Randy, and I understand that too. I just think he had a better chance here.
Golden will find a good QB. Just be patient, and let all this guys have fun today calling the U loosers. We will have our day.

Bridgewater spurning the Canes for Louisville points to fundemental problem Golden needs to fix. Kids in 305 dismiss the U these days

Most of these negative posts are coming from Gaytor fans who use this medium to upset our recruits. I would think that TB and his mother would be smarter than to read what a bunch of Florida Gaytors are writing while impersonating Canes' fans - These Florida Gaytor fans have no life and all they do is come on these boards and try to post ignorant comments about Miami's recruits.

That having been said, I'm not sure TB is receiving the proper advise - I mean, Louisville, really? You turn down a shot to lead Miami a team that is on the national stage every year and puts the most players into the NFL and turn it down to start for a team that is mired in obscurity and where nobody will ever know you name. That is not a wise move, yes you may get to start sooner, but nobody will know you are alive in Louisville. If you would have competed and started for the Canes, the chances of you playing in the NFL would be 100 times greater. But, good luck to you in Kentucky..., if you think Miami's fans are hard on the players, wait until the KKK comes after you if you start losing in Louisville....

@LOL at UM....What have the Noles done recently...top recruiting classes dont get u championships. You have no WR and no QB..better hope all those defensive prospects work out.

For those concerned about Golden's ability to recruit . . . do your home work!

His recruiting class at Penn State was 11 and 1.

He's proved his ability . . . to recruit, to coach, and to be a successful game day coach.

"You can come here and WIN with Us
or go elsewhere and get BEAT by Us."

LEASSSSSSSSSSSE EVERYONE!!!!!! STOP WITH THE 305 MIAMI SWAGGGER!!!!!! THESE MIAMI KIDS WANT A SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT!!!!!! THEY HAVE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE ARE SPOILED ROTTEN!!!!!!!!!! DIFFERENT ATTITUDES OF RECRUITS IN OTHER CITIES, COUNTIES, ETC… IN THE STATE OF FLA!!!! ANTHONY CHICKILLO IS A MAN OF HIS WORD!!!!- SOMETHING THAT MIAMI KIDS NEED TO TAKE NOTICE!!!!! BEST OF LUCK TO ELI AND TEDDY THOUGH!!!! JUST STATING THE FACTS, ITS NOT THE 80S ANYMORE THE MIAMI KIDS DON’T PLAY OR HAVE A CHIP ON THERE SHOULDERS. THEY WANT THE EASY WAY… THEY DO NOT WANT TO WORK HARD!!!!!! IT IS THE TRUTH!!!!! YOU ALL KNOW IT TO!!!!! OTHER KIDS IN THE STATE OF FLA ARE JUST A GOOD . WHY SHOW SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH LOVE TO KIDS IN OUR BACK YARD AND THEY DON’T SHOW ANY LOVE OR COMMITMENT BACK???? YOU SEE HOW MANY 5STAR KIDS FROM MIAMI THAT WE HAVE ON THIS TEAM FROM MIAMI ARE BUSS.-CAUSE SHANNON FAVORED THEM.

GLAD WE HAVE GOLDEN NOW BECAUSE HE NOT GOING TO PLAY THIS FAVORING MESS! GET READY TO COME HERE AND WORK HARD AND EARN IT WHERE YA FROM MIAMI OR NOT!!!

Come on Cane fans you all as did I had to see this coming as soon as Morris stepped on the field and started doing something the media fell in love as did we. So I knew that Teddy was going to waiver if he had to be red-shirted next year. I am hearing about this kid Nova who is a decent QB anyone hear anything else on him.

He was not following Hurt... Louisville was his only other option. Just goes to show you how good he actually was. Morris is our man and he knew that now that his provider was fired he would not get playing time. Smart move teddy, see you in the Cfl.

Please list the players that golden has sent to the NFL from temple in the past 5 years..please show us what he has done...

Teddy,
I ain't mad atcha, as a matter of fact i'm glad. You did us a big favor by not taking up a recruiting slot. Oh, by the way, we didn't need you anyway. We need a true pro-style QB. It wouldn't of been good for you to try and learn this system. Look at your boy Jaboney, he throws as many td's as he does int's. You are a good athlete, just not what we were looking for. Adios!

If you're looking for Muskrat Love it is on Gator Clause, not here. Trailernation is bored again.

Yes let's compare UF's OCC with Miami's. We both played USF. OSU definitely better than FSU. Appy State better than FAMU. Miami (Ohio) wins their conference. Pitt doesn't. Then Pitt fires their coach and takes Miami of Ohio's coach. Schedules are mostly even. Go to the NCAA statistics for overall schedule difficulty including conference games and UF's schedule is ranked harder than Miami's. Facts are facts.

Bridgewater= Jacory Harris same type of player. We need a Pro Style QB, not a dual threat.

Really? Felt nothing but love? Big baby. He said it. Came down to playing time. He was afraid of competing here but not at Louisville. His mom needs to stop whining about the fans. Fans are like this everywhere.

They need to go after proset QB's anyway. These skinny spread an doesn't work.

------

sounds more to me like the fans need to stop whining about these HS players trying to decide where to go. i bet 9 out of 10 people that comment on TB never even saw a video of the kid in a game. And all this B!tching sure isn't helping the recruits or their parents decide on Miami. use a little tact and act like you have some class.

that aside, i don't know that a dual threat QB is what we would of needed, and news is Golden is going after Rudock and a prior Pitt commit, Nova.

WHY DOES EVERYONE TALK SHYT BEHIND COMPUTER SCREENS. LEAVE THE KID BE AND LET HIM CONCENTRATE ON HIMSELF. A PART OF RECRUITING IS HAVING PLAN B RECRUITS. GOLDEN KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. JUST WISH THE KID GOOD LUCK, HOPEFULLY HE UTILIZES THIS OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A CAREER IN SOMETHING THAT MAKES MOMS PROUD.

Are all you posting on here ladies. You all sound like a bunch of scorned little bit$%^& who's man has left. Miami football sucked this year and will continue to suck. No one wants to coach or play there. I think most of you are U.K. fans just ragging on Cardinal Teddy!

Are we really getting excited about the GOLDEN ERA..this guy lost his last two games in the MAC..no bowl games..yes he is excited to get out of that mess..

Teddy might be heading into oblivion but at least there is a chance he might not get there. If he would come to the u, then he would be guaranteed a oblivious career and being 4th maybe 5th best in the state. But keep thinking Golden snagging all of those northeast kids is really the best thing to do in this state.

Who cares. Go spew your concerns on gaturd clause. Thats what its there for. This is a hurricane blog. All of you turds need to take your mullets and jorts back to your site.

BTW, pitt's coach was not fired. He resigned and stayed on in a consultant position. Kind of like Urban Liar.

Yes d-bag. Temple. I would ask you the same about Muskrat Love at UF but he's never been a head coach.

If something stinks its Trailernation. They are making their regular visits. Mommy is at work, so they have free use of the computer.

UF = Ultimate Failure

The kid made a decision based on what he thought was best for HIM. I think the competition scared him. Even though HE said he likes competition a few weeks back. Kids want to play right now sometimes that's a good thing but most of the time it's bad. Playing behind Morris would have given him only 1 year to start if he couldn't beat him out.

The U is a brand, you don't go to or leave Miami because of the coach. A ProCane has scored at least one touchdown in 137 consecutive regular season NFL weeks. I wanted Leach because I think he would have been best for the talent on the team. To me Golden isn't a bad pick, he just wasn't the best pick IMO. If he is who all the experts say he is then we will be loving him. Look at all of our past coaches when they came in. None of them were big names, most didn't like them including Jimmy.

to miss bridgewater as soon as he start a game at UL.and loose what do you thank going to happen bad comments from people, its life,im not the one to talk about people,he said he may play soon,so what you are saying is that you felted you could;nt come and beat out the QB,s at miami for the starting job.as a cane fan im gladd you are gone,we dont want you,you are what I call a COWARD.

Leave em alooooone!!!! Lol but farreal it is what it is. teddy might go to louisville and be the next denard robinson and if so more power to em. Personally I don't think deep down he really wanted to be a cane. But, as a true canes fan, I look at this situation like, what he eats won't make me sh*t. So as a good sport I say good luck to t.b. Wish em lots of success but for here on out he no longer concerns me or should he concern any other canes fan. I'm only concerned about those athletes that wears the U on their helmets and that's it!!! Even the ones that throws 4 picks against osu lol I love em all. canes4lyfe....

it just amazes me that these commits jump ship so quickly because the head coach leaves..what a joke, i thought you came to the U to get a good education and to play for one of the premier programs in college football, not because you like the coach and he did not even give Golden a chance..just another average player who the U doesn't need...his loss and the U's gain

I understand that it is Teddy's future and he has every right to go to whatever school he desires to attend. But, this shows he obviously he didnt want to be here, so good riddance. We don't need people afraid of competition, if this kid is about taking the path of least resistance, he won't ever achieve anything.

GOLDEN ERA....LMAO

teddy will be great, we want him, probably need him but his best friend is goin 2 louisville and hes following him so let him go cause he aint worht 2 scholarships in a year where we only have 15..

We need to go after smart pro style QB's and stay away from QB's like Jacory and Teddy. Hopefully Golden will get the QB from St. Thomas Aquina or someone else that fits better the Pro Style offense we will be running now.

@ temple really?........(golden) are you kidding me!!! I didn't know the coaches were the ones out there playing. But I do know golden seems to have all the right criteria needed to be a great coach on any level. And time will tell. But I'm optimistic and to all the doubters, be prepared to eat those words

Look at what we've been reduced to?! Attacking kids about where they want to go to college! That's baseless!

You guys sound like stalkers! UM's problems haven't been recruits - it has been some of the WORST coaching I have EVER seen! I think that it will stop.

Why is there such a hubbub about where Golden coached?! The question is can he be a head coach! RS proved that he could not run a team - Coker did too! I think Golden can - his teams if nothing else overachieved - that's what a head coach does! He amplifies his talent!

One more point about recruiting - we had the #1 class a couple of years ago and it got us kaput! and Auburn didn't have Cam Newton a couple of years ago!

more than half you Cane fans are idiots. Losing TB is a big deal! Hate all you like, but this is not the 80's or 90's, playing at UM is not what it once was. UM can not afford to miss opportunities like this. Now we have another hole in a recruiting class.

we want winners this guy acts like a diva and doesnt like competition best of luck to you fighting to be bowl elgiable next year..as for the U we will be fine

stop the madness ,if the kid wants to go to a different school let him. im not sure he would fit into a pro style offense but it has nothing to do with what school he is from, is he smart, is he white or black, is he jacory or any other NW player. the only real question is would he have been what the U needs. and for the record they are very good players randy just did not coach them up well enough. good luck to the kid, but he may find that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

A lot of you so called Hurricanes fans are really heartless. J12 a Dual-threat QB ?? what team have some of you been watching? Look alot of commitments have been made based on relationships with coaches and Miami is no different so that is why we had decommitments. Alot of you don't mind that Bridgewater went elswhere because of the fact J12 has lacked production but if he did have a good career @ UM, you all would have salavated to have Bridgewater. Best of luck to you TB and E. Rogers as well. These are just kids people !!!! They are allowed to pick and choose where they want to go that's recruiting. Alot of you complain about the talent being recruited here but you also complained about players like Kelvin Cain and Asante Cleveland and I think they are going to be important players for us next season. Show some class and cheer for the recruits who do come here because they want to be here and move on from the ones who go elsewhere.

We need another Cali. kid at QB.

Gee maybe Mr. Golden is already showing all you pathetic gaturds and sorrynoles why we will soon destroy you with the hide the women and children ass whipping of the good old days!

I recall Mr. Golden saying in initial press conference there will be no more tolerance for a sense of entitlement. said you will have to earn the right to play and to carry the legacy of the U.

Oh, Teddy's mommy was upset that people were mad at her kid for toying with the U. Guess they should root for kids that don't want to sign? And Teddy laves because he will have it easier and not have to beat out good QB's for playing time. He wants it handed to him.

I LOVE Golden already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You Guys are blinded by your own nose..Miami is not the place to be anymore..it's Notre Dame..it's Michigan..it's UCLA..without the money..ITS A HASBEEN University..It will remain that way with Donna Kirby and now Golden...the days of Broke Schools winning NC are over...look at the last 10 yrs..all NC teams had money to burn..Miami did it 2001..but since then there are less scholarships and everyone recruits south florida..Bama will be back on top..because they are commited to winning at any cost..have a spring game vharge 10 per person $960,000..that can pay for a good Off. Cord..

I am going to Maryland beotches. See ya next year.

I am a big advocate and supporter of Black QBs. However, I am very disappointed with Teddy's reasoning for not sticking with The U. That is not the attitude of a Warren Moon or Doug Williams, great Black QBs who dared the systems they were in to allow them to compete. Early this summer when I heard Teddy say that RS told him he would be those only QB in the class, that sort of made me shutter. But, now to follow-up with this is highly disappointing.
As far as skinny, spread QBs, I really believe both J12 and especially Teddy could, with lots of hard work and on field disciple, transfer their skills into very marketable pro-set QBs.
As a fan of The U, I do hope Golden tries to make a push for STA's QB as well.

Man, more than anything it came down to playing time," Bridgewater told Scout.com "With me enrolling early I can come in and compete for a starting spot.
------------------------------------------
If you read between the lines you'll realize we're better off without him. As far as Rodgers...we need chiefs, not indians.

If he is who all the experts say he is then we will be loving him. Look at all of our past coaches when they came in. None of them were big names, most didn't like them including Jimmy.

The last highly touted quarterback recruit The U brought in from NW hasn't exactly lit the world on fire, so I couldn't care less that Teddy Bridgewater is headed to Louisville. His excuse is that he wants immediate playing time?! Since when are NW players so afraid of a little competition?!
The U didn't win five national championships with kids who think like him. They're much better off without him, in my opinion. Bring in the kids who WANT to be here. Bring in the kids who are willing to work and sacrifice to become better players, regardless of who they're competing with for playing time. Bring in the kids who are fearless, determined, and are passionate about The U. That is what Miami Hurricanes football is all about.

So much for Randy being this great recruiter who was the difference maker. The high rated type of kid that Randy was getting were guys who really wanted to be at the U and who were self motivated to be here all along.

In other words, for the most part Randy was at the mercy of divas like Teddy to gather the talent we needed. If the kid really was not into the U like Teddy, then at the whim of the moment they may or may not come to the U. Boy, great recruiter!

It's obvious that the U, not Randy was the real recruiter. Randy's awful cold, stand off, secret lock down demeanor toward almost everyone were taking the U farther back every day.

His nonexistent ability to communicate and build deep and meaningfull relationships should have made all of us see that the type of winners and competitors we needed to sway away from other good recruiters were not coming in large numbers with Randy in charge.

Wow, give Golden just a couple of years to go full speed ahead in recruiting kids and building relationships with high school coaches.

Can you imagine what type of hungry, competitive animals Golden will get here with his charisma, intelligence, energy and ability to communicate and build relationships? Compared to the old regime there is no comparison!

I LOVE Golden already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
