The Miami Hurricanes have themselves a new kicker.
Matt Goudis, a former Michigan commitment and senior at West Hill Chaminade, Calif., told Canesport.com Sunday he has pledged to join the Hurricanes' 2011 class after visiting the campus this weekend.
Goudis (6-0, 165 pounds) is ranked the No. 12 kicker in the country by Rivals.com and the No. 5 kicker by Scout.com. Goudis made 12-of-16 field goals as a senior, including a long of 55 yards.
UM is losing All-ACC First Team specialist and senior Matt Bosher to graduation. Bosher handled the punting and kicking duties for the last three years. The Hurricanes received a commitment from Moorpark Community College's (Calif.) Dalton Botts before the Sun Bowl. Botts (6-3, 200) is expected to handle the punting duties.
Gadbois becomes UM's ninth commitment for the 2011 signing class. National Signing Day is Feb. 2.
> South Ft. Myers High School defensive back Dallas Crawford, who visited UM this weekend, told Canesport.com he's moved UM up to No. 1 on his list.
Asked how far in front the Canes are, Crawford said "I don't know till I go to North Carolina next week and Southern Cal the 28th."

things r looking up but next year recruiting will be much better with a early start.

WORD on DALLAS!

Haters are bad mouthing Canes class in the media (mostly papers in jax and Tallahassee). This class will wind up being praised by the time it's all done. Look we have a small class so it won't rank nowhere near the top. But the quality of guys coming in will be contributing. So let's relax and Be happy we get some needs filled and not worry about our class rankings. We do need to land at least another QB though. That's the only emergency I see for this year. We need something new to add to the competition.

Here's hoping he has a more memorable career than Jake Wieclaw
Posted by: rbleigh | January 16, 2011 at 11:44 PM
with the addition of highly touted RB steve braddy from miami ferguson, the 2012 class is already looking promising..

Why would anyone in the right mind commit to SoCal. It's going to be a dead zone for close to 5 years. Any Commit there will more than likely go through a coaching change to boot while he is there. Haden will surely boot Lane Kiffen to the curb as soon as he can. He was Garrett's hire.

Well too some people, the glitz of LA is a powerful lure,, especially if they've lived in FL all their life. California is a pretty cool when yer 18 years old. I know. I went to Northern CA when I was 21 in 1972.

so we have 4 commits for 2012 right? Duke Johnson the next Frank Gore
Posted by: caneinga | January 17, 2011 at 01:57 AM
Huge pickup. Wieclaw was stick behind Boshet but he never did anything. Getting a K and a P was very important and now we have them.
We need Crawford and a big name DE and CB, but this class is small and mostly about depth as we transition towered the 2012 class. Things look good so far.
Go Canes!

Any updates on JAke Rudock? Any word whether Golden has been able to sway him away from Iowa?
Chikillo plus 2 more QBs are a must.

I am hoping for Brissett....might be a reach but he could play immediately if he learns the play book.

So indicative of Randy. Ended up using Bosher for Kick offs, FGs and punting. Guy graduates and the cupboard is bare. Brilliant recruiting.

Canemutiny, Brissett is headed for UF:

Chikillo is as well.

Excellent news, the prior regime said nothing about a post Bosher era. This is very good news
Posted by: cane75 | January 17, 2011 at 09:14 AM
Brisset watched basketball game at UF with Charlie Wies yesterday. I would say that ACC basketball would be more interesting anyway. This kid is a stud quarterback.

Jack Daniels coach at Dwyer is UF alum.

The one good thing about Al Golden hiring is it will finally rid UM of Kid Kirby Holcutt. UM is falling fwd fast.
Posted by: unreal | January 17, 2011 at 09:24 AM
Sports Extra last night called it 'bizarre' for a HC to hire an OC they never met.
I'm a little perplexed too. Seems unprecedented.
What's the feeling from bloggers?
Manny, care to comment?

BUT CAN HE TACKLE?
Posted by: MH | January 17, 2011 at 11:17 AM
The kicker from Miami Norland is much better. Great upside, because he's self taught.
Posted by: Imanit22 | January 17, 2011 at 11:28 AM
what's the latest on the recruites from this weekend? what r they saying.
Posted by: b-zo | January 17, 2011 at 12:15 PM
U herard it from me 1st K.Grooms just commited to the U.
Posted by: B | January 17, 2011 at 01:06 PM
Via twitter from blustein:
We have learned that Hollywood South Broward RB Kevin Grooms is a Cane!
Well done Golden, but we need CB's, LB's, and QB's. Hate to nit-pick though...this is a great get.
Posted by: ChicagoCane | January 17, 2011 at 01:30 PM
Never mind...Grooms is a future CB according to ESPN:
"He is an undersized running back/scat-type on offense, but his future in our opinion is as a cover cornerback."
So well done again!

Brandon McGee tweet today-"coach Williams taught me something I never knew before. Gonna be an interesting year" hmmmmmmmm sounds good to me.
Posted by: sickofthefans | January 17, 2011 at 01:33 PM
Unreal. Get real. Hope you eat crow bia.
Posted by: sickofthefans | January 17, 2011 at 01:34 PM
Coach Golden,
In addition to CBs, we need 2 QBs now!
This is a critical position.
Posted by: UM Fan | January 17, 2011 at 01:39 PM
Manny,
Are any QBs visiting in the next 2 Scheduled Visit dates?
Posted by: UM Fan | January 17, 2011 at 01:41 PM
At 6-0, 165 pounds, isn't he a little small to be replacing our leading tackler?
Posted by: OldCanesFan | January 17, 2011 at 10:59 PM
If these so called rumors are right and we lose Chikillo it will be a major blow. He was a commit when Golden arrived, if the Gators lure him away its a bad mark against Coach Golden. Sorry, I won't just blindly drink the Kool-aid.
Posted by: bob sullivan | January 18, 2011 at 01:55 AM
Chikillo isn't going anywhere!
