Fisch in the building; other Canes updates

He's in the building. According to University of Miami spokesman Chris Freet, new Hurricanes offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch arrived at his office Wednesday morning and could start recruiting as early as Wednesday night if he finishes his paperwork/recruiting exams with human resources.

ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter reported Tuesday afternoon that Fisch, who was the Seahawks’ quarterbacks coach when hired by UM last week, was a candidate to replace Jeremy Bates as the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator. Later Tuesday, ESPN College Football reporter Bruce Feldman reported through a source close to Fisch that he was “100 percent committed to being UM’s offensive coordinator."

Got to love the world of coaching. I think we've all learned that at any moment anyone can bolt for another job. Remember how Jeff Stoutland was so happy UM had retained him? Where is he now? Money always talks.

> I've been told not to expect UM to hire an offensive line coach in the very near future (24-48 hours). With Al Golden out in California recruiting, he's made this recruiting weekend his top priority. Really, there is no major reason to hurry either. The Hurricanes made their more important hire -- offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach -- last week.

As for possible candidates: former USC offensive line coach Pat Ruel, a UM grad, would be a dream hire for the Canes. He's now available that Tom Cable was hired to replace him with the Seahawks. The question is money. Ruel made NFL dollars and Stoutland just left for more money at Alabama.

A lot of people think former offensive line coach Art Kehoe is a real possibility. I would be surprised if Golden is somehow able to pull that off.

> For those of you wondering about the available scholarship count -- figure its right around 16 for now. According to Freet nobody on scholarship has asked to leave the program yet.

Are there possibilities? Yes. Freshmen linebackers Kevin Nelson and Travis Williams are two some wouldn't be surprised to see leave.

> For those of you inquiring about early enrollees for spring football, three commitments have a chance to do it: Miami Central CB Thomas Finnie, Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy defensive end Olsen Pierre and Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy linebacker Antonio Kinard. They must be enrolled before Jan. 31 to practice this spring. All three are currently trying to get through admissions, etc. according to a source.

> Former USC tight end Blake Ayles has not enrolled at UM and there is no guarantee he will. Ayles, who caught 14 passes in three seasons with the Trojans, told the Los Angeles Times he planned to play for the Hurricanes. He would be eligible to play immediately if he ends up at Miami. But a source said that remains up in the air.

"Money talks in this business."
As opposed to what other business? Is it so rare for money to talk in a certain business that it's worth pointing out the obvious?

lol... what business does money NOT talk in... anyone of us would bolt our current jobs for considerably more money... could we have landed a guy with integrity? ...how refreshing!

Bout time!!! paper work should've been done Monday morning! But welcome to 'the U' glad to have ya

Let's get it!!!! We need QB or two!! Get on a plane or get in the car an go get him/them!! THE U!!

Anthony Chicalo told CaneSport that he doesn't appreciate some of the comments he's been reading on the message boards. Teddy B's mom said the same thing.

Isn't it about time we cut out this BS? If you wouldn't say it to their face, then don't write it here.

We are only hurting ourselves! This world is global now! Everyone hears everything.

Ok that helps for this weekend/week of recruiting with two big time WR's coming in. I still think he is here until the NFL lockout is delt with same with UF's O-coordinator. They will go back to hold NFL's jobs once all is said and done with.

I agree!

Manny, yet people get upset when a recruit changes his mind and goes to another school or decides to take other visits. They get ripped for not "keeping their words" Coaches lie to their face continuously. Stoutland was probably recruiting the day before he quit on UM also. So for everyone ripping kids for looking around.....you are idiots. You are the same people that would "quit" on your companys if offered $1 more an hour. Morons.

I agree with all of the above...we shouldn't be ripping on kids for having doubts about what college they will go too. And no kid is life/death for a recruiting class. There will be another must-get DL next year that we'll all 'have to have' or we'll lose forever.

We'll get who we need in the end. We have great coaches now (knock on wood), so let's just get to practicing.

I'm glad Jedd's on board. Big recruiting weekend. We have some depth we need to sure up, and a playbook to pass out. I'm looking forward to spring ball.

Go Canes!

I agree with Use your head and 202cane!!!

Finally, the OC arrives! Now let's get going and recruit your head-off!!

We need 2 QBs and another excellent WR!!

If A. Chickallo doesn't want to be a Cane - SEE YA! Coach Golden wants players that want to be here and if you don't have the swagga and intestinal fortitude then take your panzy arse somewhere else. Bye bye Bridewater Bye bye Chickallo. We need old school U ballers not shot callers.

Go 'canes!

he probably doesn't appreciate you annihilating his name either... Chickillo is a legacy... he's coming here... something tells me he and his mother and his father all know that knuckleheads come on these sites much less the creature trolls that are fans of other teams that come on Canes sites to troll...

I would not consider Canesport and the idiots that run it a news source. Gary Ferman said Whipped was not going to be the new OC after Nix was fired. Gary said Gruden was going to named new head coach several weeks ago. He was wrong in both cases. Gary is just an idiot with a blog. I have no idea why people would pay for his or any other rival site.

I would pay even less attention to what is said on the boards. I don't think Chicalo is worried about, or at least he shouldn't be.

With the OC "in the house" and soon to be "on the road again" this month has been a wild and crazy ride. To those new recruits who have recently said "Yes" to the "U" - welcome. To those who did not waver; thank you for staying the course - confirming your commitment. You will have no regrets.

Chicago cane who said that we have great coaches now? Coach Golden and his staff have not coach the sidelines yet. Before you make a comment about having great coaches you should hold your statement until midway through 2011 season.

The Canes have the talent to compete with anybody...all we needed was coaching. I'm not gonna stand here and pretend like I know anything about Golden, but the way that I see it...there is no way that he could be worst than what we had. RS was a feel-good story, hometowm kid that played for and coached the hometown team. If RS would have won a championship, Hollywood would've made a movie about his journey. Simple and plain, he was not a good HC and he was a mediocre DC to begin with. The only thing that I would like to know is, how does a man that came from the innercity turn his back on kids and schools from the same side of the tracks that he came from?? The only thing that I know about Golden is that he hit the ground running and has not stopped, he invited the ex-players back, and he opened up his armas to all the local schools...from both sides of the track. The dude is a hussler and with hard work, dedication, and the existing talent we will rise...Like a phoenix chilling in the ashes of calle 8, The U Will Rise, The U Will Rise( mark my words, son)

How do you know that he turned his back on them? Because he didn't offer schlorship(s) to certain players? If Randy was getting on some of the HS coaches for not being professional that sounds like a man that is trying to make a difference to me!

Of all the potential recruits we have coming in, Chickillo is the one You cannot say is a pansy and lacks fortitude motown filly. This fellas motor never stops running and he does not take off plays unlike some 5 star prima donnas we had through here recently. Some of the stuff he did at the Under Armour All American game was spectacular to say the least. He could go sign most anywhere he desires. The fact that he has strong family ties to the U says a lot about his family life and upbringing to uphold a family tradition. please engage your brain before flapping your gums.

I hope that A. Chickillo signs with us!!

He's a great player, and will make the U and even better football team.

I also hope that K. Nelson stays!!!! He has the potential to be one of the best MLBs in UM history.

If Chickillo waivers bye bye. You either play for us or get beat by us.

Go 'canes!

CaliCane - note the "knock on wood" comment immediately after I said that we had great coaches. I know that the greatness of these coaches is up in the air...my comment was an expression of hope. Relax.

I'm commenting on a previous blog made @ me. Hey Negative Nelly a.k.a 202Cane, unlike yourself who is probably a gator or seminoles supporter, I don't want to lose Chikillo's services unlike yourself who probably started watching college football 5 mmnutes ago. We are not talking about Matt Patchan's kid here (BTW, has anyone seen him lately ??) This is a 3rd generation kid who to me bleeds cane and is one of the most dominant defensive players I've seen in a while. Normally yes I would agree if he wanted to go elsewhere god bless but this time as a Canes fan I don't wan't to part with him without a fight. This is a kid whom his grandfather and father played here and and this crazy world of recrutiing and the here and now, Miami Needs to fight to get this kid on campus. I'm tired of hearing about how kids would have went to miami but weren't recruited enough or at all and I know he committed to the previous coaching staff but as we have all rallied around a new staff, it's time for the new staff to get this recruit.

Motown Philly Cane, I love the quote "you either play for us or get beat by us". Those are Jimmy Johnson's words. Chickillo, your a potential 3rd generation Cane. It's in your blood. Welcome to The U! Forget Will Muskrat, Charlie Dumb and all the other sissy Gayturds
CANE 4 LIFE

These kids read these posts but they dont know if they are gator flamers posting or what. They really just need to stop paying attention to the imbecils posting on these pages. taking what people say to heart on these pages is just a waste of time. half of the negative jackholes are just that complete loser jackholes. no life no family no nothing just bitter bitter bitter with nothing better then to beat on some highschool kid's choice of college.

I do not remember the convo but I have no idea how you feel I am negative towards The U! Whether we lose by 30 or win by 1, I always supportive of what the guys are doing on the field. I am Canes fan until they bury me!!

to add to my last post i could just as easily go to the gator sites and write under 20 differ names attached to 20 differ gmail hotmail and yahoo email addresses and no one would know the diff

we CAN NOT! I REPEAT CAN NOT! GET RID OF TRAVIS WILLIAMS AND/OR KEVIN NELSON! BOTH ARE STUDS AT THEIR POSITIONS N WE HAVENT EVEN GIVEN THEM A SHOT!TW RUNS A 4.5 N NELSON HAS THAT U SWAGG WE HAVENT HAD IN YEARS! CUT TRAVIS BENJAMIN OR DAVON JOHNSON, BILLY SANDERS OR DARION HALL U CAN EVEN CUT WIECLAW SINCE HE WONT BE OUR KICKER NO MORE! C'MON MAAAN!

@Motown. You are a flaming idiot. What swagger?play by us or get beat by us? Didnt you see us get whopped by Virginia and South Florida. That sure is some swagga. We need this kid, so shut your pie hole!

To ask people not to comment on kids is an exercise in futility and stupid by the way. People will comment for the same reasons as they are reading, because its a global platform. If a kid is so sensitive about what someone that doesn't know him says then he is nieve to the real world. Hows he gonna react when a stadium full boos him, when a coach rips him or a commentator/columnist says something he doesn't like? People be real, you're never going to get people not to express themselves.

It was cold both days.

WE WANT CHICKILLO!! HE IS []_[] FAMILY!!

GO CANES

The bottom line is this:

If a kid does not pick UM, the only we need to say is, "Good luck."

If a kid picks UM, the only thing we need to say is, "Welcome to The U" and other positive messages (The 1st comment on the Kevin Grooms article yesterday bashed him. Not only questioning his football ability but also intelligence. How low of a human being do you have to be to do that?).

If a kid who has orally committed to UM and wants to take other visits the only thing we should say is, "Have fun" We should be confident enough in our program, traditions and legacy to know that if a kid wants to be here, NOTHING will sway him. And if he does get swayed in a different direction, then it was never meant to be.

Chikillo & other potential recruits, DO NOT WORRY ABOUT BLOGS, don't you realize anyone can claim to be a hurricanes fan on the internet? Dont worry about these boards, most of the time it's a fan of another school claiming to be a Cane. Follow your father footsteps, continue the legacy.

Go Canes!

Someone in the know, please explain why K. Nelson would transfer??

Great post, Brooklyn!!!

Motown Philly Cane shut up. You're an idiot.

What is all this crap about saying "BYE BYE to kids who waver?" True canes are the guys who suit up and play hard for The U. I hope Chickillo chooses to be amongst that group, his farther and grandfather certainly did.

Seantrel committed somewhere else before he decided to come here, but suits up and plays hard now and has a chance to be one of the all tim Cane greats. Is he not a true cane because he wavered?

Chickillo seems like he has potential to be a great player and fans should be excited that this guy is considering UM and hope he comes!

I am a season ticket holder and huge Arena Football fan. Is Jedd Fisch another George O'Leary? When I first looked at his bio I was thinking this is good. Being a fan of the arena league and looking to see if he had a coaching card I discovered he was NEVER an assistant coach with the NJ Red Dogs. As best as I can tell he did not work at all with the team in '98 and in '99 he was an intern working with the coaching staff. The coaching staff in '98 was John Hufnagel (HC), Frank Haege (DC), Jeff Hoffman (FB/LB), Pete Costanza(WR), Joe Moss (OL) and Frank Mattiace (DL).
Now in '99 it was Frank Mattiace (HC), Frank Haege(OC), Pete Costanza (WR), Jeff Hoffman (FB/LB), Joe Moss (OL), Amad Field (DB) and Jedd Fisch football intern.
Just saying with Al Golden not knowing him this guy may be a fast talker.

You probably dont even go to the games!

I swear there are some idiots on our blogs. You are an idiot if you don't want Chickallo to be a CANE. Did you watch the under armor game. that kid is just like jered allen of the Vikings. he's a game changer. we need that. Chickallo and Vernon would be awesome next year that frees up Robinson # 56 to move back to his natural position linebacker. Think before you speak you should of learned that a long time ago.

Golden is already better than the two jackwagons we had before. At least he can recruit and coach players.

Open Letter to Mr Chikillo:

You are a cane, bro'. It's in your DNA, unlike many who have played here. You can't go anywhere else. You were born and bred to wear that U on your helmet. How would youfeel wearing that g-y a&& blue and orange with the lizard logo? How would you feel if one of your teammates came up to you and pecked a kiss on your cheek? Blaahhhhhh! Or how would you feel if fans in the stands held up signs that they have a man crush on you? See, that happened in Gainesville. It will never happen with the U.

The U is the U. No comparison. Every program wants to copy.

Forget about the du-- a&&es who post here. We, the cane fans want you here and the 305 needs an athlete like you here. Right now!

Dea Anthony Chikillo: If you want to see why you should commit to the U, check out the You Tube video entitled, "Florida Sucks"

That says it all.

@Motown. You are a flaming idiot. What swagger?play by us or get beat by us? Didnt you see us get whopped by Virginia and South Florida. That sure is some swagga. We need this kid, so shut your pie hole!

Or how would you feel if fans in the stands held up signs that they have a man crush on you? See, that happened in Gainesville. It will never happen with the U.

Right - because there are no fans in the stands.

Any SMART/INTELLIGENT 'Canes fan who is over 23 yrs. old (that is when some of the machismo and bravado wears off and you hopefully start to use you the brain that God has given you) knows that: 1) You do not bash kids on a blog for making a decision that is about the FUTURE OF THEIR LIVES. People who bash these kids are only thinking about the future of their team for the next 3-5 yrs. 2) These kids, their parents, friends and relatives read these blogs. It may come across as you just stating your peace, but some of these "so called" fans are very vicious and attack these kids play, family and character, with out even ever seeing the kid play a single high school game, much less meeting them. If I was a kid who really liked a program and during the recruiting process I am deciding on schools and I see that I am constantly being bashed by the fans of the team that I really like, while the school who is a distant second I am continually getting encouragement from their fans, I would be persuaded to go to school #2. I want to play for people who have my back, not for people who are dragging my name, my families name and my character through the mud! It is not about being a spoiled athlete, prima dona or being soft, it called human nature. So hopefully all of the intelligent (true) 'Canes fans will give these kids love during the process and no matter where they end up, whether it's with the "U" or not. BTW, not trying to pick on any of these kids, but we got Willie Williams and Arthur Brown, both 5-Star, top 5 rated, can't miss kids. How many conference championships or NC's did they bring us? Again, 1 kid does not make the difference. Stop bashing them and just wish them all the best. BTW, A.C., we need you man, complete the circle. Follow in Grandpa and Dad's footsteps!!

Here is a link to a Jedd Fisch video - you can meet the coach and learn something at the same time:

http://miasportsguy.com/featured/miami-hurricanes-offensive-coordinator-jedd-fisch/

Try it - you'll like it. If we had more like this, there would be fewer haters / bashers / general idiots in the blogging world.

Do you all actually think I read this crap?

I will attend the college that best fits me, I could care less about stupid computer nerds blogs.

Do you actually think I would change schools based on blogs? Have you noticed, all schools and papers have the same crap.

What a bunch of DAFYO!

The correct expression is "I couldn't care less" - as in, "I could NOT care less".

As you have it written, it means that you actually DO care about what is written on the blogs.

WE WANT CHICKILLO!! HE IS FAMILY! We want Nelson and T Williams. And I wish T Bridgewater would rethink his decision. I feel he will greatly regret it about mid-October, if not sooner.
We Want Golden and staff to keep this intensity. It naturally carries over. I am a female and can't wait for Spring! I may take off Signing Day. Coach Al and staff are on a mission, I LOVE THE PASSION!
Stadium Issues
it will never be the OB, they sold our OB soul to the Marlins and they will regret it, just wait and see what happens at that site. The ghost of the OB lives forever in our hearts. We can improve Sundeath oops Sunlife
here are my suggestions to Mr Hocutt:
1. NO jumbotron commercials on television breaks, pound the music and get the band playing. We lose so much with those stupid commerical breaks,Well, EXCEPT Sebastian chasing Alan Baily and the purple hippo dancing to the music. I nominate, The dancing Bear, #77 Seantreal to replace AB. Love that kid! So glad he came to the U. We love you #77.
2. Get an updated music list from our team, we should not be listening to Dolphin music, two totally different groups of people are involved.I am a 4 decade old fan, so you can guess I am not that young BUT my IPOD cranks all the U tunes on the way to game I get fired up to "Are We Ready", and no Start Me Up by Rolling Stones is found.
AND crank it up! Geez I can hardly hear it and I sit in front of that section. And I have 20/20 and both ears in are aid free.
Check the capacity at most college stadiums other than Ohio State and Michigan and a few others, they hold around 50K. Other than that USF mess, we average 45k to 50K. I am a season ticket holder, it is discouraging to have our fans so spread out in that stadium. I suggest they close the top, adjust our ticket prices accordingly, for one year. When the Golden Era gets a year under their belt, and some of the fickle fan base wants to get in on the best college band wagon, they will sell out every home game. I go win or lose and give it to anyone that gives that lame excuse, I can't watch this. I am a teacher and those tickets are hard to afford, but I will never give up my Saturday JOY & pain (yes its been painful recently, but I love my team and they need us in good and bad. The Good is about to return, I feel it in the air.....Jimbob and Will are a nervous wreck right now.
Jump on aboard the U band wagon. We don't discriminate. GO CANES
