CB Brandon Harris leaving Canes to enter draft

University of Miami junior cornerback Brandon Harris has decided to forgo his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

Brandon Harris "I have decided I will declare for the draft this year in 2011," said Harris, 20, who started 13 games this season and had 44 tackles, a team-leading 10 pass breakups and 1 interception. ‘‘It's been a very long season. It has been very draining."

Harris, projected by Scout.Inc as the 32nd best overall prospect (currently the last pick in the first round), said the NFL draft advisory board told him "some good things and what I wanted to hear. I'd rather not get into the particulars, but I felt I was in a good position at that point.

"It was definitely a long process and you want to make sure you feel comfortable with what you're doing because this is a decision that will affect the rest of your life.

"After talking to my family and talking to my mom and my dad and my brother, we just felt like as a family, we weighed the pros and cons of staying and leaving. I just decided it was in my best interest to take this great opportunity I have in front of me and pursue my career at the next level.

"The overriding factor was being able to live out my dream. I've always wanted to play in the National Football League since I was a child. To be this close in the process, it was just something I couldn't turn down.

"I met with Coach [Al] Golden and his staff [Monday] afternoon and after speaking with them, everything else was history. That was it. I came to the conclusion it was a good decision. To see how supportive he and his staff were, they told me they'd continue to be there for me throughout the process.

"He's a very nice guy. We both handled it like men, and handled it like professionals. He's been in this kind of situation before and it was not a huge surprise for him."

Harris said he also consulted with former UM coach Randy Shannon and told him "how much the decision meant to me. He knew it was a huge decision for me. He never tried to sway me one or the other because that's not the type of guy he is."

Harris, the Miami Herald's Athlete of the Year in Miami-Dade when he was a junior and senior at Miami Booker T. Washington High, said he was "excited but also nervous. I'm spending a lot of time with my teammates and they're very excited for me. I'm nervous to be leaving them because I love them and know them so well."

> Harris father, Tim Sr., was told Monday by Al Golden he can remain on staff as a community liason. The former USA Today High School Coach of the Year woul eventually like to get back into coaching, though.

"I'm going to stay here for now," Harris Sr. said. "But the goal for me eventually is to be in a position to coach. I'm going to try to wait my turn. But I like to develop young people and I can't get that out of my blood."

Sounds to me like if Latwan Anderson really wants to be a DB @ UM a slot just opened up for him. It also sounds like if he doesn't want it, opportunity just knocked for a recruit to come in and compete. This is no real surprize many canes declare early wether we would like them to stay or not. Harris is no different. Congrats to him and his family.

I'm a cane, too,

I've read and heard the same stuff.

I'm feeling pretty good about next year beyond.

Why? And please correct me where I'm wrong - with facts only!

1) Coaching staff with a PROVEN PAST of great player development.

2) Existing better than average talent.

3) PROVEN ability to be game day coaches.

Just those three points bode well for next year.

How can fans say a young man with an opportunity to pursue his dreams is making a bad decision. He's done everything right and weather he gets drafted in the first or second round he's able to live out his dreams. Good for you Harris and me as a canes fan wish you nothing but the best.

Can't blame him for leaving, you gotta get teh money while you can. I do think that another year would have helped him, ala Hank, but each person has to make the best decision for themselves. McGhee, Jeremy Davis, and hopefully Latwan Aderson is still on the team

One things for sure about next season, we should beat VT and OSU, lol. VT is losing major starters and of course OSU will have their Fab Five out of the game, lol. So that's at least 2 wins right there.

easy now, your talking about the same pathetic team that lost to UVA, Usf, and got cremated by ND......no game is a gimme with this group of underachievers

Too early to make predictions.

Anything can happen between now and August including spring training injuries and transfers. Not saying we won't do well, but a lot can happen before opening day which is when I'll make my prediction.

Love what I'm hearing about the recruiting methods however.

Beating OSU won't be that satisfying if we can only beat depleted teams. I would rather beat a strong OSU with a decent ranking.

Tough loss for the Canes. I don't think Harris lived up to expectations, as he was supposed to be neck and neck with Patrick Peterson (Johnson) coming out of HS. At the same time, his loss shows the lack of talent at the U. Losing an above average player feels like losing a Heisman winner at this point.

Jim Harbaugh last four years: 29-21. Randy Shannon last four years: 28-22.

Should have kept Shannon

The smart business decision for Brandon Harris was to stay at UM. I'm sure he was told that he's one of the top CBs in the draft and will probably go late first round, but if he slips to the early or mid second round the difference in money for the first four years of his career is going to be staggering.

He could have gotten a reputation as a shut down corner and gone top 15 if he had stayed. That would be worth million more over the life of his rookie contract.

Unless he thinks he overachieved this year and can't repeat his performance. Then it's a good call.

That's for your commitment ot the U over the years. I am happy for you and you should have no regrets for making this decision. I look forward to watching you on Sunday's and will get excited before every game when you introduce yourself to the football world before each game with: "Brandon Harris The U" Defensive backs from the U have a long history of success in the NFL and I think it would be no different with Brandon. He has put in the work and its now time to get paid$$$$$$$$$$$$

i hope the nfl looks at the bowl game and how he got burned by floyd..as singletary would say we want winners

Harbaugh

Malcom Floyd schooled you son, so did the USF wr on that last drive. You would make so much more money if you stayed, got better and leanred coverage schemes better. You were out of position 50% of the time, and your number of ints dont impress anyone. I dont know who is feeding you this bs, but all you have to do is look at Hank- one yr and he will earn money. Had he left last yr, the money comparison vs this yr would have been unreal.

Imagine what Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, reggie Wayne, Brandon Lloyd, or Wes Welker will do to you...

Should have stayed, man.

"These guys are trying to contact everybody."

McCray said recruits' names were drawn up on a huge white board on the wall in what is probably best described as a war room.

"It was so many (names) - and they were watching DVD's, highlights," McCray said. "They were going down different lists - there could be 100, 200, 1,000 kids on the different recruiting lists. And they were checking out everyone. Man, those guys were working. They were busy."

Listen and learn ... The only reasons why U are in contact with soooo many kids is this.

First, the Top 100-200 players no longer seek Ur program out. Ur NOT relevant on the National Scale... Ur last three games and regime implosion proves that.

Second, The only kids U have a chance to land are the lower ranked *** and higher ranked ** and that is it. And there are 500-1000 of those kids out there. U should be use to it. a 3rd of Ur team are those average players, and after next season 2/3rds. of those turds will make up Ur Roster in 2012.

Deny all U want, but U have Zero Talented depth (maybe 2 O-Lineman that's it) and after the last 2 years recruiting that Randy completely bungled, added to this and next years continued average classes ... U'll be right there with the B.C's, Virginia's and Wakes talent wise in the ACC...

But by all means, dream on. U do that like a ***** .

.

And if U want to follow a script as how to search and hire a New Head Coach in a few years after Golden dUmps U, just follow what the Gators "Program" has done. What Foley pulled off and the Asst. hires that followed is Institutional protocal that U could only dream off.

Lemme guess now, Rich Rod will be Ur New O.C. right ?

No top flight O.C. wants the backwards promotion.

When an Offensive **** kid axes Coach Goldie what type of Offense he'll run, all he can do is B.S. and say I'll get back to U on that one.

Pathetic

Some of that isn't even true.

lol @ the thought of the guy being only above average. some of you guys are funny as hell.

“I am going to miss running out of the smoke and playing in a Miami Hurricanes uniform,” Harris said. “It is exciting, nerve-wracking and unreal all at the same time. I’m ready to focus on training and I promise I will do everything I can to uphold the legacy of The U on the NFL stage.”

what happen to upholding The U while playing at The U????

I bet he doesnt even care that during his career at UM the team sucked, I wonder if the NFL team who drafts him will give his daddy a job like Shannon did to get Harris to commit to UM

sounds to me like taking advantage of the opportunity to make MILLIONS of dollars is the right decision to me... i find humor in the comments begrudging this kid for that... and it doesn't really matter what anybody thinks about his decision anyway including me... but i'm happy for the kid... i don't even understand why he even struggled with the decision... it's too easy...

I'm confused are there any Canes fans on here. When has a Cane that has been drafted been a bust. Not too many undrafted either. Alot of you undercover gayturd fans are killing me on here. As far him getting burned in the bowl game. One touchdown he fell, the first touchdown that was scored he was in the nickle spot. Not his strength by a long shot. So all you fake fans (dolemite especially)who hate on everything Cane. Leave us be. Doesn't tallahassee or gainsville have a paper. Hate from there. Love all my TRUE CANE FANS!

Nice try Sean Wilson, I can smell your sewage a mile away.

Best of Luck Brandon but if you're leaving because of the cba then good. But if you're leaving because of draft position. BAD Decision because you might sneak into the second round but could fall to the third. Just an opinion from the wise. You would have grown more than you know if you had stayed but best of luck anyway.

he won't make it past New England's last pick in the first round... just a word from the wiser!!! ...and luck has nothing to do with it. There is nothing bad about a decision to go make a boatload of money.

Brandon Harris is trying to get paid...I'd do the same thing if I was him.

With all the stuff happening at U, it's probably the vest decision. I mean, it's a gazillion dollars a year, or come back to some uncertainity.

Good Luck, after getting burned by a Fighting Irish Receiver who torched you for 109 yards. Your size is a problem, too bad.

what did yall see in brandon harris that was good. he couldnt tackle. he was also scared to tackle and our secondary was not good. teams never threw the ball cause they didnt have to when they could run over our line and linebackers. he was nothing special. what good wr did he lock down in his career. two of his ints were against famu. he should go if they think hes a first rounder. it still wont hurt us. even fresh faces can come in and take bad angles on running backs and pass deflect a ball thrown directly in your hands. i know this team in and out. i look at game film constantly thoughout the week so i know what im talking about. just look at every game this season. we stopped no one who ran the ball. we stopped no one on third down. him leaving probably helps us in terms that other corners will be guided by real coaching and will progress. if yall disagree, name one wr he locked down.

no you fcking gator troll. its because they are also recruiting 2012 players too. how did all thoses #1 ranked recruiting classes treat you this year gaytor? matt patchan and johm brantley 5 star recruits really panned out fpr ya didnt they?

I love how so many people bash the kid, but then say, make the "U" proud. Give me a break!! I personally wish that Brandon came back for next year, but he is not. THAT IS HIS DECISION!! Brandon has done nothing but represent the program well on and off the field. Do I personally wish he made more interceptions? Of course I do. Did he get beat several times in his last game? Yes he did. That stated, he was a player who constantly gave his all. When a teammate did not make a play he stood up and encouraged them. I constantly saw him go up to his teammates on the field and on the sideline and verbally try to keep their morale up. Brandon was also great in the community (most of you do not know or care about that). He was also great in several interviews both locally and nationally (he was on local stations several times and I heard him on ESPN and Tim Brando's Sporting News Radio show several times). He was always articulate, sincere, came across as a team player and represented the school well. So get out of your self centered worlds for a second and congratulate Mr. Harris on his move. When he succeeds in the NFL, you all will be the 1st one saying to your friends who root for other teams "their goes my boy from the U".

Brandon, wish U would stay but hey go get that green. Best of luck to U and hope to see U starting next year in the NFL.

Quarterback Jeff Driskel is expected to arrive at Florida on Friday, and now the Oviedo Hagerty star comes with one of the nation’s top awards.

Driskel was selected as the Maxwell Football Club’s National High School Player of the Year on Tuesday after accounting for more than 3,000 yards and 35 touchdowns this season.

Hagerty, who said he plans to move to Gainesville on Friday to start the spring semester, is spending the week preparing for the Under Armour All-America Game. The top-rated quarterback in his class, Driskel could compete for a starting spot.

.

Very well thank you ... How's this U Dumb Cane Cluck.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Eleven of the Southeastern Conference football squads are represented on the 11th annual SEC Coaches’ All-Freshman Team, it was announced Thursday.

Florida led the way with five selections, while Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee had four each. Georgia, LSU and Vanderbilt each had three representatives on the team.

AP Trey Burton Florida 6-2 222 Venice, Fla

DL Sharrif Floyd Florida 6-3 301 Philadelphia, Pa.

LB Jelani Jenkins Florida 6-1 223 Olney, Md.

LB Ronald Powell Florida 6-4 248 Moreno Valley, Calif.

RS Andre DeBose Florida 6-0 192 Sanford, Fla.

.

That's the most players in the Nations Best Conference ...

U had one Fat Azzzz O-Lineman in the Nation Worst Conference ...

8-5 ... just like in 2007 before all the STARS rose again for a 2 year 26-2 Run with 2 SEC 'Ships and yet another Crystal Ball in 3 years...

Wats Ur 7-6 gonna get U except another 4 year Ulcer and yet another in over his head, Head Coach ?

U really this stUpiid Sean ?

And it still got UFelony 7-5. That is the definition of failure b

Fits you about right, Sean Pig Wilson. Canes own your every morbidly obese waking moment.

The U.

Who will be our starting corners next year ? Do we have any recuits or RS freshman/sophmores that are ready ?

well this is disappointing from a fan perspective... i definitely think he wouldve benefitted greatly from another season in college though. def be a 2nd rounder. this draft class is gonna be too loaded with corners this year for him to go earlier. especially with patrick peterson, aaron williams, and janoris jenkins declaring. plus he's got prince amukamara and jimmy smith coming out as seniors. and maybe even ras-i dowling if he gets healthy and has a good combine. still, brandon has alot of upside. just needs to be coached up. good luck #1.

Dont address yourself in the 3rd person, Pig. Another 7-5 fiasco in trailerville, Homecoming loss and coaches quitting await. It will be beautiful to behold.

Is it possible for trailerpark stench to get any worse. We'll find out in 9 months.

You suck, Sean "the cancerous Pig" Wilson. Or do we call you Curse Pig? Or Soldy? Or Rawpimple? Or just unemployed douchebag?

driskell sucks!! saw him play this year and he can't throw for shyt another Brantley lol. The dude is highly overrated and will be exposed especially trying to run a pro style O not Urbans gimmick high school O he ran in high school.

Not sure who's more possessed you or the Gator troll, but intelligence wise, it's a dead heat.

Why don't you both just go away and let the sane people here carry on.

U enjoy those last 3 U Games there did U Sean ?

It's always so nice to end the Season with a WIN like EVERY OTHER State of Florida Team that went Bowling this year leading into the next season of great expectations...

U are a laughing stock
