UM names Seahawks' Fisch offensive coordinator

His name began popping up a few days ago. Now we know Seahawks quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch has accepted the University of Miami's vacant offensive coordinator position.

Jedd Fisch

"We are thrilled to announce Coach Fisch as our offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach," UM coach Al Golden said in a statement released by the school. "Through the process, it became abundantly clear that Coach Fisch wanted to be back in college, and more important, he had a passion to be at the University of Miami."

"On background, his credentials and skills are the right match for the pro style offense we will run. Jedd has learned from the best coaches in the game, both professionally and on the college level, and he has taken those experiences to develop his own unique approach. On the field, he is a thorough communicator and devoted to skill development at every position."

"I have to thank Pete Carroll and the Seahawks organization for allowing us to move on this hire during the NFL Playoffs. I can guarantee to you that there will be a lot of UM coaches watching the Seahawks with Coach Fisch and Kelly Jennings, as well as the Chicago Bears with Devin Hester and Greg Olsen on Sunday afternoon."

Fisch, 34, joined Pete Carroll's coaching staff last February after one season as the offensive coordinator at the University of Minnesota in 2009. Fisch's offensive rankings at Minnesota: 109th in total offense (last in the Big Ten), 100th in scoring (also last in the Big Ten), 75th in passing and 111th in rushing offense.

Prior to his stint with the Gophers, Fisch coached receivers for one season with the Denver Broncos, spent four seasons as an offensive assistant (QB/receivers coach) with the Baltimore Ravens and three seasons with the Houston Texans (2001-03).

A University of Florida graduate, Fisch began coaching under Steve Spurrier as a graduate assistant in 1999-2000.

SOME CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

> Served as wide receivers coach for the Denver Broncos in 2008. The Broncos finished the season as the No. 2-ranked offense in the NFL. Denver was the No. 3 passing team in the league in 2008 as well.

> Tutored two Bronco wide receivers who finished in the top seven in the NFL in receiving yards during 2008. Brandon Marshall tallied 1,265 receiving yards on 104 receptions with six touchdowns. Meanwhile, Eddie Royal recorded 91 catches for 980 yards and five scores.

> Worked with quarterback Steve McNair during 2006 season, when McNair was named to the Pro Bowl and set a franchise record for completion percentage (.630, 295-of-468).

> Helped receivers Derrick Mason (68 receptions) and Mark Clayton (67 receptions) form one of just four tandems in the AFC that featured two players with 65 receptions or more.

Yikes!!! Those are very scary numbers in Minn. Now you got me thinking, if this is a good hire???

Really? 34 yrs old, and had the worst Offensive Stats in the Big Ten and he's coming to the U? Really?

Manny point out something we're missing here, b/c this doesn't sound too promising.

Please point out something we are missing, great that he is a young guy but living here in Seattle our team has only had one good game and the rest of the season our quarterbacks have been ugly!

Yeah This guy doesn't excite me what so ever. I want a young coordinator though, so hopefully this Hire is ambitious and we she the production on the field!!

He obviously sees something in this guy that the numbers do not show. He is recommended by some big-time coaches, and he has worked on the staffs of some run-happy coaches. We will see.

What the hell???? Get Whipple back if that's the case because his OC #'s @ Minn. were atrocious!! I'm a ride or die U fan and I'll give him a chance but damn Golden WTF??? Anyway, be prepared for the gatyturd/piss-nole fans to KILL us today on this forum/blog guys.

Wow! This is the first hire by Golden I am a bit skeptical about. Hopefully there is more promise here than what meets the eye from his Minnesota stats. I like his personal story and I think he has a strong work ethic so hopefully his knowledge of being the OC will match.

Give the kid a chance he did a pretty good job here with the Seahawks and with the Broncos and all do respect to the Gophers he didnt have a lot to work with and went against Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Michigan State with far superior talent. He is just starting out for the most part.

Do you think that Pete Carroll would have chosen him for the Seahawks if he weren't good. This guy will be good!

not so good stats at Minnesota but Miami players are more athletic and faster...besides, this guy was recommended by the likes of NFL coaches Mike Shanahan and Bill Billichik...only time will tell!

Hey guys, Look who was O-Coordinator for! Would your stats look anybetter play calling for that talentless team. Hey he didn't recruit those players he had to work with. Now had he been at Texas and his stats looked like that, I'd have a problem Too! If you don't have a whole lot of talent to work with, them stats aren't going to be so hot.

Stats at previous coaching positions are meaningless. Miami led the ACC in total offense this year, but what did that translate into?

What was Chizik's record at Iowa State? 5-19? How'd that work out for Auburn?

Calm down everyone. Let Golden make his moves and judge him on results after two or three years. Pete Carroll made this guy the quarterbacks coach after that season with Minnesota. You think he didn't know what he was doing? Golden also sees something here. Let's hold off on the defeatist attitude for at least a few games. Go Canes!

This is not a good ENOUGH HIRE for the U.Florida get freaking Charlie Weis from New England, Norte Dame, and the Kansas City Chiefs we get freaking Jedd Fisch from Minnesotta who havent won anything in over 30 yrs and Seattle who got in the playoff with a losing record are we FOR REAL !!!! Dont tell me that he is a young Belechick !!! We will be the worst team in florida before we are one of the best again.

Minn ran a spread the year before Fisch got there, so he was trying to implement a pro set offense with spread players, second rate spread players at that! He is unproven at best, but you have to like the fire he brings and the recos he comes to town with. Billichik, Shannahan, Carrol, Spurrier.....all some of the best to walk the sidelines. My only gripe is that he's a gaytor, but if you read his bio, it says he only went there to be around the best coach at the time. And as die hard a Hurricane as I am, I have to admit, Spurrier WAS the best college coach of the 90's IMO. Even Spurrier hates UF these days!

I really doubt Pete Carroll would recommend him to a staff that his son is on. Even moreso, since he will be his son's direct boss.

lets be honest here, what kind of player goes to Minnesota to play football...suck ass players that's who. How many stars did those players have? If any... You work with what you got. I'm not defending this guy at all because I have no clue who the f**k he is, but if you have garbage talent to work with you will be in the dumps, period. Now there is Golden, D'onofrio (I think that's how you spell it), McDonald and others together plus with the hotbed talent we have here in the dirty south, c'mon lets see what happens and if it doesn't pan out Goldie will toss him super quick. One thing I can say about Golden is that he handles things decisively and quickly (from what I have seen so far).

ANYONE WHO IS READING THIS************

WE AS FANS NEED TO PUT EVERYTHING THAT WE HAVE SUFFERED THROUGH ASIDE. THESE PLAYERS ARE OUR PLAYERS, NEIGHBORS, SONS, FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS, ETC... WE NEED TO STAND BY THEM. SINCERELY,

CANETILLIDIE...DH

P.S.
TO ALL ORANGE AND GREEN FANS....LETS RATTLE JOE ROBBIE STADIUM AS NEVER BEFORE.

Wow! I am in shock. How will this help in recruiting going up against Wise at Florida and Fisher at FSU? He is going to have a hard time selling it.
Golden is asking Cane Nation for a lot of trust on this one. I sincerely hope he is up to the OC job or we are going to be in a lot of trouble.

I'll give him a Wait/See approach, BUT, Canes fans, he'll always be a GAYTURD!
CANE 4 LIFE

One year in a state that may have two division players a year ? Judging one year at Minnesota is not a fair measure of what he can do. I trust Al Golden's judgment. The gators & noles who infest CANE message boards will get their jollies out of this , but we'll see who's laughing a year from now.

Another Gator coach here, and the oc?

What experience does fisch have as an NFL OC?

Comparing him to all these coach greats is like comparing telemaque and rayray to ed reed & sean taylor without yet playing a single down.

This sounds like EXACTLY like Shannon hire of that other young hire named: PAT NIX !

David, I agree. I'll give Jedd and Golden time to get some wins in 2011, then recruits will see the results. Let Florida have their Charlie Dumb and FSU's Bimbo. Go Canes all day baby!!
CANE 4 LIFE

So the Gayturds get Muschamp and Weiss, and we get Golden and Fisch. hmmm i'll with hold judgement but by it's cover, it kinda shows how far the U has fallen and how fast the rest of the teams are rising.

They better right this ship FAST or the U will become no better than Tulsa year in year out.

Clankkkkkkkkk off the rim. But OK, lets see what happens. Guys that know way more about it think he is up to the task so I'll sit down and watch.

Oh, and don't be using Chizik for any comparisons. He would have been 8 and 4 or 7 and 5 this year if it weren't for Newton falling in his lap. The experts are already saying Auburn will be 8 and 4 next year after Newton breaks for the NFL and the Tuberville Kids start graduating. We all know what a miracle is and Chizik had his this year.

I shouldn't have said that I should worry about the Canes. But I hate the whole Newton Auburn story. He was nothing more than a hired gun, and no where near being a student athlete. College football need less Newtons and more Lucks.

what is Goldens fascination with everything Pete Carroll? I am not a football genius but I think that I might have found a slightly better candidate to wow us! Rob Chudzinsky for one...could we afford him? Probably not but it would be worth a shot, we might have to pay him close to 1 million. He was 35-3 as our OC and won a NC. At 41 he is still young too!

Come on Golden...Fisch...really? I hope you see something that I don't.

1st - He's a Gator grad who's avg. stay is one year. He has 1 year of oc ex.

His only year as MN OC in 2009

109 ranked O
75 ranked passing
111 ranked running

he leaves MN for Seattle and the new OC did:

77 ranked O
57 ranked passing
86 ranked running

Looks like MN did better without him!

Don't like this hire at all.

Completely unproven as an offensive coordinator but an up-and-comer with a huge work ethic - exactly the mold Golden is looking for.

Read this and feel better:

Good Stats Coach P. Scott: Rob Chudzinsky wants to stay in the NFL. Why would he downgrade from an NFL OC to College OC for less money?

The issue is not only that he has been unproductive as an OC. He is from our in state rival. Haven't we learned anything from the Hill situation? Later, after being exposed to our recruiting base, who is to say that Florida won't hire him too, even in a different capacity, and further their desire to penetrate this area? They certainly have the resources. A better hire would have been someone who has demonstrated more productivity as an OC and not a graduate of one of our in state rivals.

WHY THE HELL WOULD WE BRING ANOTHER

GAYTURD

INTO the MIAMI FAMILY ????

He will turn and run back to Gville too and take all our secrets .....

I have to finally say, you idiots have surpassed all of my expectations now. you wouldn't know a good coach if he hit you in the face. how did charlie weis do at ND with 2 1st rd QB's? how did the chiefs do this past weekend against the ravens and those ex-canes?
take a step back and realize we have a true CEO now for our program. before the internet, cell phones, etc..you guys wouldn't even have known who the hell howard's, jimmy's, or dennis's coordinators were before they maybe were mentioned in a local paper or on tv during a broadcast. the coaches in place share the ideal's that golden has. if they didn't, they would not be hired by him. if you believe in BIG AL, then lay off these new hires and wait and see. BIG AL plans on running the ball 50 times a game next year anyway. if you have watched his Temple teams play, you would know that. we will be a grind it out smart football team that wins ugly for a few years. as he gains trust in morris, we will score more points. you bandwagon fans better get used to winning just like the pittsburg steelers did when bill cowher was there. we are going to play the same type of football. we will be smarter, more disciplined, more prepared, more physical, and finally tougher than our opponents from here on out. we will instantly be transformed into the nasty SOB's we used to be. if you are not on board for that than go cheer for auburn or oregon and their sissy spread option no huddle fastbreak teams. we are getting back to basics and starting a new era that will re-write the legacy of the U. this winning style will not mirror what we had in the past...but the National Championships will. one of you morons could be the OC but at the end of the day, you would do what BIG AL tells you to do just like the coaches in place now.

Scott, Chud would be sweet for obvious reasons but his aspirations are much higher than the job he had 6 years ago. He's in line for another NFL coordinator position and if that goes well maybe a NFL HC in a couple years.

I say he's ours so we are going to give him a chance,we"I"need to just get behind Golden Al and support our team like never before. I have already changed my mind about Al and I love the DC.

Manny,
Good job, man. You have left the Sentinel in the dust. Is he on vacation? He has the same article about the UM Clemson basketball game up. I, and all Canes, are depending on you to keep us updated. Right now we are bleeding. Please shed some light on this new hire soon.
Manny 2 Other 0

In the heat of the battle Coach Golden will run the show

Coach Golden knows what he is doing and I have loved every move. Young, hungry and ready. Some of the people on this blog are out of touch, we will only be "The U" again if we support the team and get to work on distancing ourselves from the tired and failed policies of Randy Shannon and company. New Direction, New Heart and New Brains. They have impressed so far and made all the right moves. No one knew Jimmy or Dennis before they came and a lot of people were upset about those hires. Coach Golden knows that production and winning will win you all over and I am sure that he does not give one crap about your under educated football opinions.

Another former Gator as coach here? And this time as the OC!!??

What experience does jeff Fisch have as an NFL OC?

Manny, the word is that NFL OC & former UM OC Rod Chudzinzki is IN TOWN. Can you PLEASE holler at Al Golden ear to hire, and for Shalala & Hocutt to pony the money to get an actual Experienced (NFL) PLAYCALLER, hire a real NFL OC?

Remember Hocutt: "Money will not be a factor ! ". Well, Locutt you can't saving and expect different RESULTS!!

This sounds like a Shannon hire when that other young coach was hired named: PATRICK NIX !

Most of you are a bunch of mindless babooms ,
the guy is not even here five minutes and you're bashing the poor guy.

what a bunch of morons.

lol @ some of the clowns that post here. I bet some of these clowns probably think Brittany Spears is the best singer ever due to the amount of records she has sold.

Hey hopeternalist.....wake up. Chud doesn't want to go back and be a college OC. I'm not making this up like most people do here. He has been quoted numerous times in the press that he is only interested in NFL jobs. If he's in town, then it's to interview for the Dolphin OC job, as has been quoted here and in the Sun Sentinel.

Look, what has Muschump & Weiss done, nothing. If Weiss was so dam good how come he got canned. What was Texas record this year with Muschump there? 5 & 7. To tell you the truth, nobody has a clue what any new coach is going to do to after they play and they recruit. Everybody wanted Rich Rod & where is he now? You Have to recruit and surround yourself with good coaches, who buy, into your system. Names are just that, names. Look how good Saban was in the pros, he sucked!Nix had very little experience as a coordinator before he got here, at least these guys have been coaching for some time even though they are young. These guys, being young will be hungry as dogs, and I guarantee they will motivate these players and get rid of this laid back surfer dude mentallity that we have.

Who cares what school he went to. It has absolutely nothing to do with his abilities or professionalism. Nobody in this business would get hired if decisions were made by people as stupid as posters such as SebastiantheIbis.

This sounds pretty good to me...

"Fisch comes to Miami after studying under two-time college football national champion Pete Carroll, two-time Super Bowl Champion and Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan as well as Super Bowl champion and former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick. He has also worked with a three-time Pro Bowler Matt Hasselbeck this past season and began his coaching career as a graduate assistant to current South Carolina head coach and former Florida Gator Steve Spurrier."

Thank you MiamiMoe. I am so tired of these people that just know names, whether they are good or not, and don't background.

Golden made his first big error...a fawking Gator with very limited play calling experience...DISLIKE!

UM SERIOUSLY NEED TO GIVE THIS KID A LOOK HE BENCHES NEAR 300 LBS SQUATS NEAR 400 SUB 4.4 VERT 36 SHUTTLE 4.3 5'9 170 CORNERBACK JUST AN ATHLETE CAN PLAY CB.S.WR.RB. COACH BY HERBERT JAMES FORMERLY OF UM STARTING CB ON 91 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM & I QUOTE "THIS KID HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO EXCEL AT THE NEXT LEVEL, THE WORK ETHIC IS AMAZING THE KID GETS IT AND WANTS TO BE COACHED" JUCO KID HE HAS 2 YEARS LEFT BUT MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO GET A YEAR BACK. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEWZcF0ayZ4

Mike33076, does not this wreacks Patrick NIX?

I heard Chud when Shannon was getting rejected left & right, ie., dick koetter, John mcnulty...

Now Mike, I KNOW CHud is in for the Dolphins, but we competed with Jaguars for Dick Koetter!... and only Loss because of $$$.

Could we not PONY Up this "MONEY IS NOT ISSUE" dollars that became UM recent new mantra? This new money can cause reconsideration! If U got it, walk the walk!

He was the OC at Minnesota for ONE YEAR before accepting his current position with Seatle...give the man a break

People it was Minn. Yeah MINN! Uick someone name an offensive skill player in the NFL from Minn....crickets....
So he is good enough for Mike Shanahan, Brian Billick, Steve Spurrier and Pete Carrol(whats ties all them together? Hmm maybe all of them have some type of Championship ring on their finger) but hes not good enough for the ignorant U fan? Idiots.
Stop with the CHUD talk. HE DOESNT WANT TO COACH COLLEGE! What don't you people understand about that? He is an NFL coach now. Jesus you people are stuck in the past.

I HATE THIS HIRE:....He was offensive something when Houston sucked big time, he then goes to Baltimore WHO had no offense during his period there, then goes to Minnesotta and they were last in offense in their conference AND one of the worst in College Football, his only GOOD thing was being asst to WR coach at Denver (but they were already good!!!)...to top it off HE IS A FUC&ING GAYTURD!!!!!!!!!!!........
