Signing Day may extend past Wednesday for UM

Al Golden and his staff are scheduled to talk to reporters about their 2011 signing class at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. But Golden may not be able to talk about all of the players who end up inking with Miami.

In addition to several west coast recruits who will be announcing later in the day/night, Palm Beach Dwyer quarterback Jacoby Brissett could end up waiting a few days to make his decision known to the public. The 6-4, 200-pound U.S. Army All-American, who trimmed his list down to UM, Florida and Wisconsin on Monday, could wait until his basketball game on Senior Night Friday to announce where he's going.

"Right now, his mother and I are both trying to convince him to do it on Wednesday at school," Dwyer coach Jack Daniels said. "But I think he wants to wait until Friday. We'll see what happens."

National Signing Day is just the beginning of the signing period for football recruits. They have from Wednesday until April 1st to pick a school. UM could still end up hosting a few other potential recruits in the coming weeks.

> As it stands, the Hurricanes have 15 commitments. Junior college cornerback Byron Moore of Los Angeles Harbor Community College will announce at 11 p.m. tonight if he's going to UM or Tennessee. Moore finished his season with 42 tackles and seven interceptions and will head to his next school with three remaining seasons of eligibility left.

Moore will make his announcement on an internet radio show called The All-Star Approach.

> According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Rutgers has given former quarterback Tom Savage permission to transfer to either UM or Florida.

Savage, a freshman All-American in 2009, announced three weeks ago he was transferring after losing his starting job last season. He threw for 2,211 yards and 14 TDs and 7 INTs as a freshman. He played in only two games because of injuries and ended up on the bench last season.

> As I told you guys last week, former UM coach Randy Shannon will be on ESPNU on Wednesday as a special guest. Shannon, who was a candidate for the devensive coordinator position at UCLA, could end up looking for a job in TV in 2011 according to the Associated Press.

> Booker T. Washington defensive tackle Elkino Watson, who visited UM two weekends ago, said he will announce at 9 a.m. on Wednesday his choice between UM, USF, Florida and Louisville. He grew up a Canes fan, but didn't receive an offer from UM until a few weeks ago when Golden took over as coach.

I spoke to him at school for about 10 minutes Monday. Here is his interview:

Hey Jake -

Have you seen the weather? Are you sure you wanna go to Iowa? Really?

So many internet tough guys on this blog talking smack about teenage, high school KIDS & an ex coach, player, alumn of the school.

Everyone has an opinion. Right, wrong or indifferent. The STUPID opinions are like gas...it's strong, offensive, yet with no substance & they do not need to be shared. And by sharing it on a blog, it's like letting a silent one rip in a crowded elevator. Tough guy is willing to share as long as he's anonymous.

The Golden Age is here:

I agree with you, but it's not the kids fault. The media has created a huge revenue stream by developing the recruiting circus.

Additionally, we shoulder some of the blame simply be participating in the various blogs.

Again, I am sickened how the media and big business has corrupted college football over th elast number of years and now it has trickled down to the high school level...and if you're paying attention they are now sticking their greedy fingers into youth league football.

Yep, the main Internet tough guy is that Curse Pig Sean Wilson. Genus a sack of useless blubber. Also posts as Purple Drank and Rawpimple. A self-loathing slob.

I wish Coach Shannon well. Support YOUR brethern unless they come after you, then stand up and fight. Regarding kids in the spotlight, this is a reflection of the self-centered culture in which we now live. If you ask adolescents what they want, the most frequent answer is FAME. Not fame for curing cancer or bringing world peace, but fame for itself. Not good... But they didn't set the game up this way. The adults did.

But these young athletes are thrust into the spotlight, so let them enjoy it. Why not? At the UM, it will be about Team and Us, and they will have the chance to mature, as young kids often do. These coaches will create that opportunity.

A lot of folks are underestimating Morris as QB. The kid has skills, is very samrt and is tough. He can carry the load for a resurgent UM and become an outstanding leader for us.

I hope Jacoby Brisset comes in as well. He is a talented kid with lots of promise. We would welcome he and his family to the Canes Family!

Hey, the future is looking up! Go Canes!

Another big time recruit we need, we lost on...what happen to all these big recruits visiting miami...not one has chosen miami...seems miami has become a vacation for recruits....cant win NC's w/ 3 star players...lost a 2012 player to FSU also..recruiting hasn't gotten better

RS didn't get the UCLA gig because the HC didn't offer him the position. RS gets his buyout no matter what job or salary he gets next season. But he is no longer the HC at the U, so all you guys move on, leave him alone. Geez. If I was RS I'd be pretty happy with the money I've made......he does make more money than any of you doesn't he.

Mike I agree with you. Can we stop with the damn Shannon bashing once and for all !!! my goodness alot of you really need to get a life. Shannon had his method of coaching. It didn't work. okay fine move on. Funny thing is for all of the belly aching you shannon bashers do how come you don't bash Larry Coker as well ? I hated the way Coker went about recruiting but when he was fired I let it go. I really qusetion if alot of you are fans or not ? Alot of you think that miami should just show up and win a national championship. Well guess what people alot of work needs to be done and if you can't fathom that thought then maybe you should go and cheer for the gators or seminoles but as for me win or lose I'm gonna watch and enjoy Miami's road back to promincence no matter how long it takes or who the coach is if it's Al Golden or Osama Bin Laden or Elvis. Just give me a break with the Shannon bashing.

I keep reading where some members of this blog are contending that UCLA didn't offer Coach Shannon the defensive coordinator position or he didn't get the job.

That being said, would those who are sharing that information kindly direct me to where you are reading said information.

Thank you!

Makes me wonder about recruits who think they are bigger than the program that is offering them a quality education and opportunity of a lifetime. They seem to crave the attention they don't deserve. I guess it is all about them,...... in their minds.

Enough of dissing Randy. HE IS STILL A LIFETIME MEMBER OF CANE NATION!! He spilled his blood at the U for God's sake!! OK, he did not measure up to our expectations coaching-wise. Prior to Schnellenberger, many coaches did not measure up. It happens.

If you Shannon bashers continue with your venom, potential recruits will read how "supposed" fans treat other members of the Cane Nation, and say to themselves, "Why should I go there? They have no loyalty. No sense of family!!"

The Cane Nation is like no other because we take care of our own. Randy is still one of our own!!

Something tells me that the Randy bashers did not even go to the U because we treat our own much better than this!!

You know, there are too many senseless, irrelevant, irrational, and downright idiots who post on this site. Shannon was not the worst case scenario that we could have hired four years ago, even with what is going on now. What Shannon accomplished in recruiting and academics in four years cannot be matched by Coker’s s useless years at the “U”. Sure he won with players recruited by Davis / Shannon, but without Shannon’s prior placement as an assistant coach and primary recruiter prior to Coker’s reign, we would not have been in a position to win. If Golden wins in 2012, the year after, or in three years, Shannon’s mark will be on our program; irregardless of what some of you idiots think today or tomorrow for what it matters. If ESPN or any program offers him a spot to speak his mind about recruiting, as an expert, so what! In reading some of these posts, what right or cause do you have to write or speak about grammar, syntax, prose, or proper use of the English language – spoken or otherwise? Get off the guy’s back; if Shannon would have quickly won championships, the same senseless, irrelevant, irrational, and downright idiots speaking against him today would be front and center sounding his praises. Get a life and stop bashing someone who has made a difference in society, the “U”, and his personal life; even if it is not to your satisfaction.

It looks like we have another Drama Queen on our hands with Brissett. I'm now worried that he spends way too much time looking at himself in the mirror.

Enough already! Make a decision.

It's crazy how people wish bad on others.
Moore if you want to go to rockytop so be it.
go win 5 games. UM 10 pro bowlers this year.

Im cheering for the Packers too. Hope Sam Sheilds wins a Ring. He played his butt off this year for the Packers

Boy, I can't wait to hear Shannons insightful analysis. He'll make George W. Bush look like a great public speaker.

I do feel bad for the guy...while he may not have been head coach material there is no denying he is a top DC. That was proven over many years. I am sure someone will pick him up.

here here DRE. glad he's gone, but nothing but love for RS tried to do. always a cane.

Kids today don't care about Pro Bowlers from the past. If they did UM would have it easy. It's the whole package and we can't compete with a lot of schools especially when we put 25k in the stands on Saturday, lose to USF, and can't win our bowl game. Friggin Perriman's kid choose UCF?@!!!

First, we don't lose a commit we never had. We never had Moore. Second, I don't know how many more commits we have, but needless to say we need a QB or two, hopefully Bissett (#1) and Savage (from 2012)are coming; we need two or three DT's, hopefully Jalon Grimble, Phillip Dukes and John Jenkins (just to name a few) are coming; we need a safety or two, and another one or two OL would be nice. It ain't over 'till it's over!

I agree, Randy is a Cane and always will be. He was a great player and defensive coach. But not a head coach. He is very loyal to the U. So give him some credit. We are not all perfect at everything we do. He is p;art of the Cane family.
