Mom says 'it's not over yet', but Brissett does

Palm Beach Dwyer quarterback Jacoby Brissett was so worried about how his mom might react to the news of him picking the Gators Friday he decided to text message her two hours before his basketball game. It didn't make his announcement any easier to take.

His mother, Lisa Brown, didn't hide her emotions after Brissett told a gym full of spectators his future was in Gainesville. But like it or not, the 6-5, 225-pound U.S. Army All-American said after his game, he's sticking with his decision whether it hurts mom or not.

"I feel good about my decision," Brissett said. "I've thought to myself since Wednesday where I could see myself next year? It came down to UM and Florida. And I just had to follow my heart. And my heart [was] with Florida."

For what it's worth, Brissett said he went back and forth over his decision "about 25 times." Then, he made a final decision on Wednesday during school."

Still, Brown, a long-time Hurricanes fan, said she will try to sway him to pick the Hurricanes before he faxes his National Letter of Intent on Monday.

"I'm going to try to talk him out of it," she said. "He hasn't signed it yet. He's just orally committed right now."

Brissett said he was planning on sending his letter of intent on Saturday.

So why wasn't mom happy with her son's decision? It seems while she felt good about Gators offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, she was upset by the fact she hadn't met coach Will Muschamp yet.

Brissett said he's not worried about the impeding competition with Jeff Driskell at Florida. In fact, he's looking forward to it. "He just has to show me he's better than me," Brissett said. "That's all it is."

The Gators are scheduled to come to Sun Life Stadium to face UM in 2013.

IM so Over it.
Morris and J Harris. Get your ass ready to win some football games. No Excuses we can get it done with them guys we are going to be committed to the run and our running backs are bad ass. We needed defensive players anyways.
Let's get to work fella's and I can't wait until spring practice starts i'll be there.

He can go to UF. Dont want a player who doesn't want to be here. I still think it has alot to do with playing BB. UF dosn't care because they get depth and driskel will start. And maybe Brissett beats out Driskel, hard to believe, and Driskel will leave. Let him go be with his friends.

Some of you Miami fans are some of the biggest hypocrites and make me sick. Would I have loved for the kid to come play for Miami? Sure. But I'm not going to rip him for choosing UF. It is what it is. This 18-year-old kid chose UF for whatever reason.... wish him good luck and move on!!!

@Tony Smith: eat sh^& and die bro. For one you never ever in your life disrepect a mother that guided her child to a good successful path in life. You (Tony Smith) & everyone else who is disrespecting Mrs.Brown. Now clearly and evidently she doesn't feel comfortable with Will Muschamp and team.

Now for "Golden" she sat down with him and talked with him something that Will Muschamp didn't do. Brissett just think about what your doing You see they have the #1 Qb in this class. They already made it clear that if he join their team they will change their offense just for him.

Best of luck to Jacoby. I wish him great success.

We blast kids that switch away from UM to Louisville saying that they are afraid of competition. Clearly that is not the case with Jacoby. I respect that he is willing to go compete against the #1 recruit at his position. That takes B#lls!

I wish he would come here, but if he chooses not to, then good luck to him and let's go find us someone to fill that QB need like Savage or a JUCO transfer.

I am not concerned for two reasons: (1) He would not have started in 2011, and (2) Coach Golden will get us two great QBs in 2012. It is in 2012 when we really need a QB or two to give Steven Morris competition.

I wish Jacoby Brisett the best at UF, although I agree with some of the comments above that he's going there to be a backup.

His best chance will be to transfer afterwards to another school, just like Cameron Newton did.

This kid may have the physical skills, but the rest - time will tell. In the meantime, pull the offer. We don't need prima donas.

All I can say is this......Brissett be prepared to ride the pine while that same friend of yours out there starting and interviewing with the press (Matt Elam) after having a good game.

Mom get in his a## and you know what u and him discussed and you're already comfortable with Al Golden. But if he signs that letter of intent Monday he might as well be prepared to be redshirted. Most likely be prepared to transfer or ride the pine. Jeff Diskel is the guy they wanted all along.

Remember this kid we will see you next yr and I'm quite sure that Miami Defense will make you pay for the wrong decision that you've made. We have some quick agressive db's and not to mention linebackers,D-line. Kid by the time Miami play Fl it's going to be one hell of a game. Come to the "U" and be winner like your mom wants you to be. Besides she knows that the U will get you into the pros.

I will say that I don't understand how you can go back and forth between schools.....25 times over the last couple days, then say your heart is with UF?????? Doesn't make sense to me. If he just said, "I'm going to UF", that would've sounded better.

Anyway, I wish him well. Good luck at UF.

Sean Wilson toots the skin flute!

If he does not want us , we don't want him -- this will be his mistake , but good luck to him . But don't forget we do have 3 coming back - none of them lived up to expectations, but perhaps under new coaches with a new system, better practice and better preparation , one of them may surprise. In the final analysis you go with what you got- you work with what you've got and make them better.
GO CANES

as a huge cane fan and alum this hurts but here are the facts.Did anyone see brantley play. he was pathetic all year and driskell and this kid new it.Both could vie for playing time asap.Muschamp watched the same film and new he needed help. He got out of austin quickly after his defense was pasted all year long.Look at what coach golden has done in 3 weeks, more than randy did in 3 years.Next years tricounty class is much stronger than this year.He will find the right guy, lets move on.

All I wanna say is if the kid doesnt wanna be here then so be it. Let him be, we will be fine without him. I would rather have someone who wants to be here than a guy that would rather be at a program with three or four starting qb's. To me that speaks volumes on his character and his thoughts on his talent level.

Who give a f u k they don't know if he is going to be any good mo one knows and plus you have to be really smart to be eligible To get into the U BABE YEA!!!

Don't know enough about the kid and its not my job to judge..I am a Canes fan and suport them win or lose ..Kid does not want to go to the U then good luck to yea and find a QB who WANTS to be here!! GO CANES!!!

All of U fans think that Brissett is the answer and probably haven't seen the tape on this kid. Do you all know who he looks like.......Jacory? His arm is not strong and he lofts the ball same way.

I think it's great that we get to use the scholarship on another kid. Stephen Morris has what it takes to run the helm for the next 2-3 yrs. We'll get a better recruit next yr.

Why would U want a kid whom most of U say will ride the bench elsewhere?

Brisset should have asked himself who the last black Gator qb was. Uh, nobody, because Gville is Deep South. Chased Newton off, making Burton play wr. Hope he likes to hoop cause he will never play qb there.

Peter, God is a myth so that is irrelevant.

The kid picked UF, it where his heart is, I hope he sticks with his decision.

I really like the Savage kid out of Rutgers...can we still get him?

no joke driskels better so i dont know what he expects to gain

its really not as big a loss as people make it out to be though. 1. we'll get someone better next year. guarenteed. 2. savage will likely transfer here and hes better anyways. 3. he wouldve added nothing more than depth at this point so his impact wouldnt have been felt anyways. morris is more than capable of being a game manager. which is all he needs to be right now with our running game. jacory is not. he throws too may floater picks.

Wow. The good thing is that UM coaches treated Brissett's mother with respect. He apparently did not place a high value on this fact, or on mom's opinion. He does not have the HEART for the U. Move on.

Perhaps he wants to be a b-ball player, because unless he is great, it's bench time for this kid at UF. But he can complain to his longtime friends, no?

So, let's go out and get Tate Forcier. Way more heart and competitive fire. He would be a difference maker right away. Hunt him down for the Canes! The kid can play!

Cane Nation no worries the QBs are coming, just not this year. brisket will back up drisket a uf and we will sign two outstanding QBs next year. No worries, with Morris as out starter the two incoming QBs for next year will have time to learn and all will be good at the "U" once again. We need more than a QB, we need some horses on the "DL" and that too will be taken care of next year. The future is bright for us. Quit looking at the clouds when the sky is a beautiful blue with lots of sunshine.

It is so disrespecting for everyone that's bashing this kid's mom. Her concerns maybe more about her son than UF. This kid doesn't want to play at the U, then so be it; we'll be fine. Coach Al should call his mom and tell her he appreciates her efforts but he doesn't want anyone that has doubts about playing at the U. It's really not that serious, he's only one player; the U will be fine.

I'm fine with his decision. If you don't bleed orange and green, then you shouldn't be at The U. Period. He's got guts going to UF considering playing time is going to be hard to come by, but that's his choice. He's a Gator now anyways, so I couldn't care less how much playing time he gets. As for his 'Canes-loving mother, God bless her. She's only doing what any good parent should do, and that is to make sure their son or daughter has considered the potential ramifications and consequences of making such a life-altering decision. I don't think it should be her telling him where to go because at the end of the day it's his life, but giving him her two-cents so that he can make an informed decision is fair game.

See ya in the 2013, Jacoby. It will not be a fun homecoming for you. Bet on that. GO CANES!

MAN THAT WAS CRAZY. HE IS NOT THE FIT FOR US IF ITS NOT IN HIS HEART TO BE AT "THE U". YOU ALL HAVE SOME GOOD POINTS,EXCEPT FOR CHRIS IN FT.MYERS...ANYWAYS MORRIS IS THE FUTURE AND MAYBE HARRIS CAN BE DEVELOPED FOR HIS LAST YEAR.WE'LL GET SOMEBODY NEXT YR AND THEY'LL PAN OUT.I HAVE FAITH IN "COACH G" AND THE RECRIUTING CLASS OF 2012 LOOKS GOOD,WEJUST HAVE TO KEEP'EM BY WINNING IN 2011. ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY AND MY GOD ITS BEAUTIFUL.

its to bad kid chose florida. hope he likes riding the pine. Thing is if momma wont sign his loi he cant fax it in. There was a story a couple years ago about a kid chose one school dad wouldnt signe loi and he had to switch schools in order to sign loi to go to a school. And ended up going where dad wanted him to go instead of his choice. So u never know if momma isnt happy and wont sign his loi and if she makes his life a living hell he might switch.

Mayne, I hope he changes his mind or is at peace with the decision he makes family and all before he signs the paper. If he goes to UF then I wish him well.

It doesn't make sense to compete with a recruit in the same class as you when you can compete against all QBs that are learning the system together. Plus he has to believe that the next few years recruiting will pick up for Miami based on the impression Golden left on him. Next years recruits is who he will be throwing the ball to and Golden seems to have a better plan to recruit like the Jimmy Johnson era.

I wish him luck in being a successful QB no matter where he goes, but he has a better chance to start here than anywhere else in the nation. Maybe as soon as next year if he learns the playbook and the two scholarship QBs struggle like they have in the past.

It is obvious that uf wants UM not to have Brisset more than they want him. If he changes his mind, fine, if not Golden will move on and still make UM a champion.

Best of luck in Florida lets move on. Frankly he did not want to play at the U so hopefully he will start in Florida in his senior year.

Yeah, self-absorbed Brown Eyed Douchebag. Kerry Baker was Oj Anderson's QB in the late 70's. I was in the stands on those Friday nights at the OB. Si what.

You are still the Pig. Ignorant and pseudo - intellectual as ever

Die, Pig.

U idiots fans always say you want players that are not afraid to compete. now this kids decides to go to Florida and compete against the no.1 QB in the country and you clowns are talk smack about that. Hypnotics and idiotic all of you are. I can't blame him for wanting to learn under Charlie Weis who developed Tom Brady instead of UM OC who no one can name, but know that he was a student at Florida and has play zero football and has developed no one!!! UM fans are a joke!!!

AL GOLDEN CAN NOT ATTRACT TOP PLAYERS, HE IS NOT A "BIG SPLASH"...KIRBY HOLCUT IS TRASH..HE MUST GO NOW!!DONNA TOO..FROM JOHN GRUDEN TO AL GOLDEN..WOW..it will get worse. ANYONE HAVE THE NUMBER TO FIU'S TICKET OFFICE?

Hey, unreal --- last two years we had OC Whipple who "developed Roethlisberger" and we all saw how that worked out with Jacory / Steven / AJ / his son.

No matter what we've still got a healthy competition between J12 and Stephen Morris with a better offense.

Jedd Fisch vs Charlie Weis?

No brainier btw who is Jedd?

Like the way Weis wrecked ND - hope he does an encore with the Felons ... THAT would be unreal

He made a great decision.

Why would anyone want to go with that train wreck Miami program? They are terrible. They have recruited horribly. Players have regressed there. They have no fan support. They have a lousy campus, facilities, etc. The only thing they have is some 1980s art deco stuff lined up on a beach that used to be popular 25 years ago. Miami has been and still is on a MAJOR decline.

The Gators have a great coaching staff, amazing support, facilities, a real college campus and feel and dont forget play against the best competition and talent in the land. Not to mention the SEC has won the last billion National Titles.

If you want to win, be a winner, play against the best, make it to the NFL, go to the SEC, and he did.

Loved hearing those boo's at the end of it, and the folks sitting there on their hands.

So be it,,, go be a gayturd,,,, we will survive.

I see a position change. Hope he knows how to play TE.

Hidden behind all this is the angle that the kid chose FL because it took all the pressure off him. He knows its on Driskell because he's "the man", so if the kid beats him out there's huge upside available...if he doesn't, so what...nobody expected him to. At UM, he would have had enormous expectations to revive a down program, and if he didn't perform (according to unrealistic expectations) the fan base would chew him up and spit him out. Not saying the kid doesn't like to compete, just saying that perhaps the mental expectations on choosing UM were too much for him to handle.

No brains. He might start as a senior. Might! When intelligence is absent, you cannot expect a smart decision. At the U, or if FSU was on his map, he'd start midway through his freshman season. Again, the obvious, no brains!

<~~~~Embarrassed UM supporter here, terrible President, AD, HC and Athletic administration. Been this way for years. Can we get a President that has a clue about Sports, an AD from withing the program and not from Hicksville, a head coach like Chud or Wiston Moss who bleeds UM and has done it on all levels coaching?..Get rid of the the mid western clowns and bring in Pete Garcia.

I have to give this young man his props. Our "fans" are funny. On 1 hand they bash Teddy because he might be able to start right away for UL, but then they get on this kid because he isn't scared off by who is there. Good luck to him. We are going to kick his ass 2 years from now though.. lol

KWII.. He wanted to go to Univ of Washington, but pops said hell nah.. lol

You know we can't have it both ways. A lot of you are saying that Brissett shouldn't go to UF because they already have 4 QB's ahead of him. But if the shoe was on the other foot, and U of M had 4 QB's ahead of him, and he had gone to U of F, then everyone on this blog would be all over him because he ducked competition. How many time on this blog have people said, we don't want him he transferred, or went elsewhere because he didn't want to compete. The kid's going to Fla, it's a loss, best of luck to him, hopefully we get Savage. Savage may be better suited to the offense in the long run anyway.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You completely miss the point...the kid was not motivated to go to Trailersville to compete agains Driskell...he was motivated by his high school coach and wanting to hang with his old high school friends. And guess what? He doesn't care if he plays a down of football, BECAUSE IN THE END HE'S GOING TO BE A BASKETBALL PLAYER!

Let him go.
Let him go.

Let's see QB depth at F_U:

2011- Brantley, Murphy, Burton, Driskel... (others), Brissett
2012- Driskel,Murphy, Burton, Brissett, others
2013- Driskel, Burton, Brissett, others
2014- Driskel, Brissett, others
2015- (Maybe Driskel), others, Brissett

LOL. That boy may not play a down.

Agree with the post that F_U got him so that UM wouldn't get him

Jacoby- You were their second choice, why would you want to gosomewhere were you are the ugly step child? No disrespect to stepchildren.
