Oh man you are witty...I can't tell you how many times that has happened.

wow that's weak manny u let gatots talk trash for years before u stop them I didn't swear at all and u delete my post wow

same with mine, jacoby. Selective censorship.

But I could care less if spring ball isplayed at O-town, L-town, f-town (ft lauderdale lockhart) or I-town (Immokalee). real canes will go anywhere to see the U. Look at that dump in Orlando called the Citrus bowl That's smack in the Orlando crk neighborhood.

Gators: Go away. Go to your doctor-suing, pie-eating, gastric bypass getting coach, who nearly destroyed Notre Dame football (like shannon did here), and your 5-7 no-bowl for Texas new Head coach.

Did anyone ever see how hard Tim Tebow worked out? His work ethic was contagious and that is why his team was winning national championships when our guys were happy because they didn't end up in Randy Shannon's doghouse.

Stop calling it swagger.

If you read between the lines you find that this team has been lazy since Butch Davis left. Coker didn't know how to motivate these players to fly around during practice and that is what Shannon did well.

When Shannon was around these kids learned to fly around in practice, but they didn't do any of the extra work in the weight room or film room to improve their position on the depth chart. Shannon and his staff tried to allow the players to take the initiative to eat drink and live football when no coaches were around but they didn't learn to do it on their own.

Now we have Golden and hopefully he will be able to get these kids focus on football 24/7. If he can do that successfully then this team will be better than the best SEC team. It's not swagger it's hard work and determination. Year in and year out the teams that do the extra things to be prepared mentally and physically are the ones that win championships. These past few years all we have done is try to make these coaches happy by pushing the right buttons and avoiding the dog house. The right buttons for Shannon was academics first and fly around during practice, but excellent practice sessions alone don't win games. All they do is help us go through the emotions. Its the extra work that you put in that makes you a great player. But few of the players were like Leonard Hankerson who took the initiative to be better by eating drinking and living football. He was as bad as Lance Legget when it came to dropping the ball, but he wanted to improve so he trained during the summer to become the best wide receiver we had this year. The sad part is he is not the most physically gifted of all the wide receivers but his hard work paid off.

So don't talk about swagger cause swagger is a word we made up. What really matters is doing all you can during a workout or practice until you can go no further and somehow someway you find it in you to give a little more of yourself to football just to make you better. You give a little more of yourself in the weight room practice field or in the game. It's not swagger. it's who worked harder to get the win and the wins only add up when you work your butt off months before the game is ever played.

^^^ Keep in mind that these kids are coming out of High School and they have not peaked in their physical development so the star rating doesn't really matter as much as we think it does. All the star rating means is that a kid is capable of contributing right away in the collegiate level.

What matters most is how mentally tough these kids are? Are you tough enough to go above and beyond what the coaches are trying to push out of you?

The reality of it all is very few people are willing to put the extra effort to be the best they can be. Very few of us will stay later than expected to complete a job we are paid to do for a living and the same mentality applies to the kids who play football. That's why it's up to the employers or in this case the coaches to give the kids a little extra on their plate to practice.

The only thing that has impressed me about Golden is that he has added an extra workout after the routine workout in the weight room for Swassey to enforce. Allowing more practices to be open to the public will help the kids get rid of those butterflies they have when they actually get in the game, but the extra position drills is the biggest difference he has done that will pay off in wins.

These kids can't be counted on to do extra work on their own so it is better to make it mandatory.

Johnny, STFU!

so I'm assumming you think randy shannon used to hold open practice and extend an invitation for former players and high school coaches!!! Dude randy shannon was a horrible coach!!! thats why he's still unemployed!!! he sucked in every aspect of the game, he sucked at everything that someone can suck at!!!!!!!

Since it appears I've touched a nerve here...Let me follow this up. Its not a racial issue its a brand issue. Golden has been talking about the U and its brand. If you want the U to be known as a great school, with a professional offense and a professional NFL stadium...why the hell would you put the Spring game at a high school stadium in the middle of...lets say a less than desirable location? I like steak, a nice filet, but I'd prefer to enjoy it on a real plate with cutlery, not on a paper plate with a spork and plastic knife. Its all about presentation of the U....

Star rankings are highly overrated. Only one player on the Steelers and Packers starting rosters was a 5* player coming out of high school. The MVP Aaron Rodgers did not have a scholarship offer from a D-1 school. Not one!

Posted by: Coach em up

So Stephen Morris is going to win the Super Bowl and be the MVP?

DBC and Washington Cane im in Vancouver BC so add another CANE fan to the Northwest.. Love what Golden is doing. I hope there are alot of alumni come to spriong practice.

The hell you talking about? Morris had a few D-1 offers. Just because every school in the nation chases a kid doesn't make him automatically good. Look at Kyle Wright, Jacory Harris, Brantley. Everyone wanted them. And they didn't pan out. List could go on and on.

@ Just wondering.

You like your steak, but before it is a piece of steak it is a fattened cow. You have to go to the farm to get the cow. Consider the practice field and possibly where the spring game will be played as the farm and the cows are the incredible athletes that live around our practice field as the cows.

It's all about recruiting and how many kids are going to drive or take a bus to Sun Life stadium to watch a spring game?

Personally, your previous comments rubbed me the wrong way, but I understand you are only looking at this from a fans viewpoint, but fans don't play the game. The kids we recruit in south florida are the ones who play the game. So don't come across as being too good. I know that wasn't your intentions but that's how it came across.

Right now Morris is better than any QB the gators have on their roster......

If Virginia Tech can run the ACC year in year out with mediocre recruits based on rivals.com and scout.com and put them in the NFL then the star rating is overrated. However, I won't say that it is totally overrated. It has a lot to do with the coaching staff getting every ounce of talent from these kids. If Va. Tech could land some top notch talent in Blacksburg that are ready to play right and with the talented coaching staff they have in Blacksburg then the sky would be the limit. Every year their three star and two star recruits beat our five star and four star recruits.

All that matters for our recruits is wearing the Orange and Green uniform and that U on their helmets. All that matters to recruits that choose to play for schools like Boise State and va. Tech is getting better.

Wearing Orange and Green does not mean a thing other than you were better than most of these kids coming out of high school but they will be better than you coming out of college because they are not satisfied with their achievements. Wearing Orange and Green may mean that you have a free ride to the NFL cause they respect the talent level, but players like Sam Shields left a lot of money on the table and so will players like Allen bailey and Graig Cooper but watch them blow up in the NFL when doing the extra stuff is mandatory.

Are we not going to recruit any qb to come in and compete for playing time in 2011? Are there not any junior college or H.S. candidates left to recruit? Of course, how good can they be at this point in time? They would be the leftovers. This was and still is a big need and unfortunately looks to be a big miss on the part of the new coaching staff. Needless to say we lack depth at the most critical position on the field.

Here's an important question...will the spring game be played in the ghetto or at Sun Life stadium?

Posted by: Just wondering | February 07, 2011 at 09:48 PM

You know what I'm wondering??? How is it that a person can live without a brain...I guess you can answer that question you racist jerk! But I guess you are a Gaytor fan so that answers my question the best... by the way, how many teeth do you have left?

Gaytor Sam: 50,000 rednecks show up to watch some cars make left turns for 10 hours, all it takes to get a bunch of rednecks to meet somewhere is for there to be lots of beer and chewing tobacco - what else is there to do on a Saturday in Gaynesville a/k/a deliverance country?? Most of those fans are already tired of banging their sister and they fish and hunt every other day, so football is about all there is to do up there when the fair is not in town.... let's see how many hillbillies show up when you lose another 5 games this year in the SEC? Go worship your Tebow statute and leave the Canes' site to people who have more than 5 teeth in their mouths.

Hmm look what is going on at Sun Life in a few weekends

Monster Jam presented by Feld Motor Sports (Event Over)
When:Sat 2/20/10 (7:30PM)
Where:Sun Life Stadium
Address: 2269 Dan Marino Blvd Miami, FL Map
Cost: $10 - $30

Wonder who will have more tix sold - Monster Jam or the home opener.

BY the way, over a 1/3 of the students at UF are from Broward and Dade County.

Now I'm wondering if some of you people get the point...Is the spring game for recruiting or for the fans? I for one think the Spring game is about the fans, not just recruits....but if you think the game should be at these kids' high school stadium for recruiting purposes, play the game at Northwestern or STA's place or some other local high school that has the better recruits you want. If its about the fans, play it in the best arena we have. I don't recall seeing USC, Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Florida, Notre Dame, Georgia, or any other major program playing their Spring games in high school stadiums for recruiting purposes...but I guess Miami is different than those programs. Yeah that's it, Miami has the secret weapon in recruiting....play the spring game at a crappy stadium.

Manny and everyone else, we get the point! There were things that Randy Shannon did or didn't do that weren't effective. We have a new coach now, so let's get off of his back. Al Golden was brought in to do what Shannon didn't, so don't live and die on everything that he does. He's here to make a change in the direction of the program, but that doesn't mean we have to use every opportunity to drag Shannon's name through the mud. Let's look forward and embrace the changes that Golden is bringing with the hope that it'll materialize on the field and the classroom immediately!

Stop complaining and living in the past already!! I'm done now.

GO CANES!!!!

Very simple - It's because the cost of having the spring game outweighs the number of "fans" and ticket sales for a spring game

If you are honest with yourself you understand that we have a very fickle fan base and at very small school. Most 'fans' who attend UM games didn't go there and the loyalty they have was from the old glory days.

Discipline is what missing....acc championships......natl tiltle.....go canes, who cares where the games is being played at as longs as these kids are playing and staying out of trouble and trying to be better in life. we've been down for too long, all hurricane nation need to come together and get behind golden and his staff to put some trust in them that they can get the job done. ,we asked for a new coach guess what........hello, we got one, so let's go U Family, quit with the back n forth with the negativity,we got a coach that is now communicating with us,thts more than RS done.......GO CANES

I am looking at the Spring Football Schedule and there is no one team on there we should loose to. #6 BABY. THE SWAGGER IS BACK!!!

GO 'CANES!!!!!

Nice point CaneGrad00!!! That's how it all started!

Gatard trash, saw those turd fans fleeing in the 3rd quarter against Miss State. Great fans?
Naaaaaah. Just hillbilly whitetrash looking for something tondo on a Saturday in the trailerpark.

I was STRONGLY in the camp of those wanting a coaching change. I am NOT, however in the camp of those that dishonor Randy by name calling and such.

He is who he is. Unfortunately, we didn't know the walls he built around himself due, most likely to his history would be extended to protect his players, and EXCLUDE everyone else. he allowed his allegiances to those who marched in step with him to govern his player choices ON the field.
He recruited where he felt a "connection."
All this led to a bad situation at UM.

However, I still believe that RS gave us ALL he could give, considering that wall. No way he could leave himself vulnerable.

I'm not apologizing for him. Just trying to understand.
I think the gig brought back too many memories. I';m willing to bet he will do better things AWAY from it all.
Lets give him a little respect for who he still IS...UM, champion.

Don't mean to pontificate. I just feel for the man.

LOL ah man, I hate embarrassing 'ish like this...come on!!! and FU 5Titles for pointing it out, but hilarious lol

Oh, and PLEASE lets stop the stadium battle that divides our UM nation.
I realize I have no right to talk, as I live in a cushy little burb south of Nashville.

But I'll say, if y'all think Traz is a bit dicey, try going to a games at Morgantown, W Virginia, with a bunch of urban white folks armed with beer bottles aiming to do damage to our beloved Canes.
Been there, hated it.

Still, we need to get the city fathers to somehow make tropical Park (or somewhere close to campus) a reality for the U.

Can you just IMAGINE the expectations, the ENERGY that would be injected into the true, MIAMI fan base?

You want the players from your back yard, but you dont want to go to their neighborhoods and watch them play their Spring Game. There are kids 8 and 9 yrs old that get to see a UM Spring game and will take that with them until they are highly sought after seniors in high school. That was the point. You people kill me with the ghetto talk.

And @ Johnny and David C.
Who ever said Shannon didnt want ex-players around?? He didnt have to extend a open invitation b/c players were always allowed and have always been treated like family. Do you have to extend your parents a open invitation to come to your house?? U people are ridiculous.

Afraid to go to the Traz Powell Ghetto?? This is the Mecca of Miami High School Football. Milander, Tropical, or FIU. No one cares, the best players and biggest games are played at TRaz Powell and Shannon was genuis and making UM's presence felt out there.
There is constant hysteria that the big bad black people are going to rob and kill you. There has and always will be a connection between low income and crime and this extends beyond races and ethnic groups. Make guns illegal for everyone and the playing field will be level. Oops forgot, there are some people just afraid of others and have that hysteria. They'll keep supporting the NRA and the right to bear guns, and have them all stored up waiting the the big bad guy..

Looking good that Forcier will be goin to the U

Either go visit the part of town where most of these guys come from or stay home until you grow a pair.

Really? O.k. tough guy. Not going doesn't make me weak...and going certainly doesn't make you tough. I am a teacher and taught 2 years at Carol City Sr. High...doesn't get any rougher than that. I've been there, I know and I choose not to go with my pair intact. Jerk!

Posted by: spike | February 08, 2011 at 10:58 AM

Not going because you are scared makes you weak. Calling someone a "jerk" makes you a p*ssy.

Hey c*cksucker, Miami is already known as a great school and not for the idiotic reasons that you stated. Miami has 5 National Titles and puts players in the NFL, in both quantity and quality. They can play the spring game in the middle of the street every year. Miami is better than Florida in every way. Always has been, always will be. @sshole.

Looking good that Forcier will be goin to the U

Michael, if your post is indeed fact, we need a pool here as to when Forcier will get the nickname "Frenchy." LOL

He was the wrong guy in Rodriguez's system, but deserves a chance at the U. I seem to remember he had a more than decent 1st year at Meeechigan?

Actually, the first guy is right and you 2 are ignorant dumb f*cks. White is a race and Cuban is an ethnicity. So, the original poster is obviously part of the white race. @ssholes.

This guy's homosexual fascination with Randy Shannon is f*cking ridiculous already. Hey @sshole, your boyfriend was one of the WORST coaches in UM history and probably the worst Division 1 coach in football during his tenure. Get that through your thick @ss skull. That guy is f*cking incompetent. Sit back and watch as he gets passed over for yet another coaching opportunity in Maryland. Idiot.

R, I like your style. I had been wondering the same thing.

Canadian Cane,

Your initials wouldn't be DF would they? True or not, we now number 3 strong and are international as well! They'll never stop us!

R, you make some good points, but why the thinly disguised profanity and insulting other posters? Unnecessary. It takes away from the impact of the good things you are saying to us.
Go Canes!

I have come to the conclusion that the only thing 5 star ratings tell us is who hit puberty and who is just hitting puberty. However, they are not an indication to how good a player will be to a school.

After going back to 2002 recruiting classes on rival.com website very few of the 5 star recruits ever lived up to their potential. Of course we had a lot more that did not live up to the hype but we were not the only ones. Tennessee had several QBs and running backs that never materialized. So did FSU and and Florida. Those were the four schools that I am most aware with and I noticed that they had a lot of bust. Very few players ever live up to the hype like Reggie Bush and Adrian Peterson. Julio Jones barely lived up to the hype if it were not for a better performance his senior season.

All that matters is how hard the coaches will push them and how much these kids can take once they reach their physical potential. The hardest part is the mental capacity that these kids have that determine they will turn into great players. Shoot Rivals had Kyle Wright as the best QB coming out of high school about the same year Aaron Rogers came out. Not to mention Ryan Moore was a 5 star WR but I would take Leonard Hankerson all day over Moore.

Lorenzo Booker was another 5 star recruit, but he never gave us the problem that Greg Jones did.

A man playing against children is typical in high school when people hit puberty at different stages in their life. However, the NFL there are no kids. Somewhere all of those 5 star ratings don't mean a thing once everyone grows up. All that matters is your work ethic. That is why i won't be surprised if we have NFL caliber players in this recruiting class that flew under the radar because their bodies didn't quite develop in time for them to be considered studs coming out of High School.

The ingredients to win championships is not so much in the star ratings as it is in the work ethics of the player.

Stuff it, no job Pig. Still sucking your momma's teat after all this time, Pig? Self-loathing slob.

Big deal, former players and high school coaches. What about fans?
For those of you with selective memories, dementia, or blinded by Golden Fever, I remember spring and pre season practices being open to fans, especially under Dennis, clearly one of the greatest coaches to be run off by UM politcs. We were not penned up in far distant enclaves, but actually inside the ropes , free to roam. I recall standing near a two on one drill where Naji took a big hit and his mother exclamed...get off my baby!

Getting Forcier or Savage won't mean a thing on the field in 2011. That is our priority - 2011. As much as I like everything else I've read about Golden this was a big miss on his part in the recruitment process going into next season.

R, I like your style. I had been wondering the same thing.
