Frank Haith to Missouri -- Pending approval by Missouri Board of Curators

HERE IS THE STORY BY MICHELLE KAUFMAN AND ME THAT WE HAVE SO FAR ON HAITH...

The University of Miami is about to lose its men’s basketball coach.

Frank Haith Pending approval Monday night by the University of Missouri Board of Curators, Frank Haith will become the next Missouri men’s basketball coach, according to two Miami athletic department sources.

Haith was in Houston for the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament, and was still in Houston Monday morning, waiting to fly back to Miami to address his team – per approval by Missouri. He has two years left on his Miami contract.

Reached in Houston by phone, Haith told The Miami Herald he had no comment.

Missouri, a member of the Big 12 conference, is a school with great basketball tradition, and that’s something that Haith always craved in Miami. The Hurricanes drew few fans, and do not have a big following in South Florida.

Missouri approached Haith, 45, according to one of the sources, and asked permission to talk to him. The Tigers have been in the last three NCAA tournaments. Former Tigers coach Mike Anderson left Missouri late last month to become coach at Arkansas.

Haith knows plenty about the Big 12. He was promoted to associate head coach by Rick Barnes at Texas in 2003-04 after also spending 2001-03 there as an assistant. From 1992-95 Haith served as an assistant at Texas A&M, then came back to A&M as associate head coach in 1996-97. His first season at Miami was 2004-05.

Haith is 129-101 in seven seasons with the Hurricanes, including a 43-69 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference. This year the Canes were 21-15 and competed in the NIT, losing to Alabama in a quarterfinal. UM went to one NCAA tourney under Haith in 2008, reaching the second round.

Tony Hernandez is the acting Miami athletic director, and along with UM president Donna Shalala and key members of the UM Board of Trustees, would make the decision for a new hire.

One source said that any new coach coming to Miami would need plenty of confidence, knowing that the returning players are good, but that fans would only come in big numbers for a winning program.

The Hurricanes athletic department has seen a whirlwind of change in the past several months. Football coach Randy Shannon was dismissed in November by former athletic director Kirby Hocutt. Hocutt recently resigned to become the Texas Tech athletic director. Hernandez is a candidate to replace Hocutt.

Yup, Ur a destination School riiiet ?

When are U Cane fans finally going to realize and admit that Ur overall Athletic progam is nothing more than the floor mat in front of a revolving door ?

Shocka huh ? If U seriously think that he would even entertain the thought, U delUsional dopes are far worse of than I thought.

but there's always Katie Meier, Ur best on staff Coach that is about as talented as an average Boys High School hoops Coach...

This is a great opportunity for Miami to score big on a new coach. Let’s hope we do our research and pick a good one. “What would Hocutt do?”
.

Judus Priest! What makes any of U think that a “Top” Basketball Coach would come here to run his program inside a 6 k Bunker where 1,500 k show up ? What in the past even gives U a glimmer of hope that that is even a possibility ? U dopes are great at doing Ur research and picking Coaches in theory on paper… It’s just too bad that they are better at researching U and Ur spiraling Athletic cesspool programs and tell U no thanks , over and over and over and over and over, again and again and again and again …

U see the trend ? didn’t think so … U never will

Thank god. I will help Missouri's AD prep his resume, he will need a new one ready to go when he gets canned for this hire.

Christmas came early for Miami and its fans. I was not aware we were supposed to give out Christmas gifts this far ahead of time. Thanks Missouri for taking this awful coach off our hands.

Coach Haith, best of luck to you at Missouri. You did some good things at the U.

Now, how about Bruce Pearl? The guy has Miami written all over him, can recruit and will bring true ACC excitement (and fans)to the Canes.

Brodsky,
Wake up, man. The trailer
she's a burning!

NAME & ADDRESS

We don't care for basketball. The only basketball tradition in our U is the conference we play in.

Couldn't agree with you more. Here are my top choice for the new basketball coach at The U:

1. Mike Krzyzewski
2. Dean Smith
3. Roy Williams
4. Jim Boeheim
5. Phil Jackson(if the Lakers win he WILL retire form the NBA)
6. Pat Riley
7. Magic Johnson(He can start up his feud cross town rival Isiah Thomas at FIU)
8. Go back in the DeLorean and get Coach Wooden before he gets old.

Hahahaha, you must have nutted in your pants when you woke up, checked the University of Miami section of the Miami Herald, and saw an article that's making national news!

Just think, not only can you spend all day researching every aspect UM's basketball history and the specs on their arena, but there are going to be lots of people stopping by here who might respond to you!

GONNA BE A GREAT DAY! Enjoy my friend, enjoy.

BRAD STEVENS!!!! Go get him now (that's right, he is in the national champtionship tonight).
CANE4LIFE

There is reality, The U is a football school and there's nothing wrong with that. Basketball is always on the back burner. No rising coach would touch this job. Poor fan support. poor facilities when compared to other elite basketball schools. And as a tourist destination the city is second to none. But as a destination for a HS basketball player other universities offer more. Believe it or not kids in college can't afford to go to SoBe consistently, or to take advantage of other attractions the city can offer. The lone exception is the beautiful beaches we have. There is no basketball culture, no winning tradition, no mad fans in the stands, few visits to the Big Dance, low media visibility, few opportunities for TV games, recruiting contacts that are more fertile for other programs that The U. I can't see any coach looking at The U as a destination. Now the opposite can be said about the football program, except for fan support. The 2 programs are going in opposite ways. The new hire will be a hot assistant, no coach with a resume would take this job. Watch out, many of you are going to get what you wish, Haith leaving.

U mean like the 8 Coaches that Hocutt tried to contact and said no thanks even for an interview after Chuckie "turned" U down ?

The Pig is in a frenzy. Someone spiked his slop and Mommy isn't around to give him his lithium.

Gurgle, Pig. Just try to breathe.

It sure is fun to see all these Gaytor fans pile in here with their usual moronic comments just so that they can feel good about something in their listless empty lives. Hey dudes, dust off your Tebow pictures, and make sure to lock down the trailer door when you have to go visit the outhouse.

Two words: Frank Martin. Cuban American, coached at Miami High, fiery competitor, tough winner at Kansas State, needs to come back home.

Brad Stevens, are you kidding. He will only leave for an elite program, like Duke, like NC, like U Con. Not here. Please do you homework, name are nice, what you have to verify is viability.

this will end up like the football hire. a bunch of big high profile names will be thrown around by us then the athletic department will suprise us with an under-the-radar hire. you can win at miami but it will take the right coach. stevens wont come. smart had one good run who knows if he can do it again? the guy they hire will be unheralded young and hungry for this chance.

I wish fans would say "I wish" or "In a perfect world" before they type in the names of these coaches. Brad Stevens??!!! Why would he leave Butler and come to UM, please tell me? Stevens is only leaving for a top 5 school (Kentucky, UConn, Duke, UNC, etc..). He is not leaving Butler (where basketball is king) to come to UM where there are no basketball fans. Frank Martin, again, a case of a guy (even though he has strong ties to the community) who would be stupid to leave KSU for Miami. KSU has fans, they actually compete for the championship in the Big 12. Has Miami, ever competed for an ACC championship? Do you think we will in the next 5 years?

I love UM to death and I support all the coaches and teams, but some of our fan base is downright delusional. The only Coach that makes sense that has been mentioned is Bruce Pearl AND ONLY BECAUSE HE HAS FALLEN FROM GRACE and would take the job just to have one and to build back up his pedigree. If Pearl was not fired fort those NCAA violations there is no way that he would take this job either. We need to get an up and coming HEAD coach from a mid-major program or get a top assistant from a major program. The Sun Slantenel has a story about Mike Jarvis from FAU, he would be a good choice, but his age (65), would have me think twice about him. No good coach from a major program will leave their job for UM. The one thing I will say in defense of the fan base is that they will come out to support the team when they are winning. That has been proven and there were some decent crowds at the BUC this year. I love Miami and guys that post on this blog who are positive, but please stop with the pie-in-the sky choices. Miami IS a destination school for football, it is NOT for basketball.

Bruce Perl has spent thousands of dollars on an orange wardrobe. For what that's worth.

Forget Pearl, he's probably going to get a "show cause" letter from the NCAA. No college will hire him with that hanging over his head.

"Ex-Gator Moody Says Coaching Staff Panicked Last Season"

Urban quit on the girls from trailersville...twice! Donovan has already quit once on the school located in Armpit USA and will be doing so again before next season.

After 35 felony arrests word is the Gators will be playing all 4 of their home games at the Raiford prison yard. The players are happy as they will feel right at home and the fans see it as a two-fer where they can visit their family members while taking in a ball game against teams such as...FURMAN!

Amen brother,.

That's hilarious -where do you come up with such high end comedy. Next thing you know you will be crushing a watermelon with a sledgehammer.

Yeah, Pearl will be like Mike Leach. With issues pending over them (Mike Leach suing Texas Tech and Pearl with the NCAA) no AD or school will hire them. Even though lots of people wanted to see Haith gone (I wanted him to get at least one more year, but I am not saddened to see him leave) he was a good man who represented the Basketball program and University well. His problem was that he was not a very good coach and that is his main job at UM. He leaves us in a predicament. We have no AD, just an assistant AD, thus, whoever is hired will not be the new AD's hire. This can pose a problem and will make the job a hard sell for any current head coach, whether mid-major or power conference. UM said they have a time table of Fall for hiring an AD, so if they wait too long to hire the HC, that messes up recruiting the the basketball program. Even though Haith is gone and people are happy, the timing of him leaving, along with us not having an AD, puts the administration and program in a bind.

Good opportunity for Tony Hernandez to state his case for the permanent AD job.....make a great hire and the job is his. Shaka Smart an obvious candidate. VCU had no tradition before he got there and look at it now. Fans in Miami will come to see a good product, and that includes a coach who doesn't have his head up his ass. No one wanted to go to the BUC for continued performances of Haith getting out-coached. If not Shaka Smart, then someone with a Big East background and/or from the Pitino/Donovan coaching tree. (Look, you can hate the Gators all you want, but you gotta admit they have a hell of a B-Ball coach....we need to take a lesson and go fish in the same pond for ours).

Up to the same ole trick of stealing other posters screen names, eh racist. Must be brutal for you to root for a team with all of those black players.

You goofballs hired an assitant coach, with no head coaching experience who Texas was going to fire...what a joke!

You felons hired a coach on the downslide whose players despised him to lead your pathetic offense who is moving to Hicksville to retire...great catch Hillbilly's!

You will NEVER match the Canes football greatness and your jealousy makes us Canes laugh and smile at you little girls running around in circles while wearing your orange and blue costumes.

What does it say when the most famous person to set foot in the Septic Tank is Mr. Two Bits. If there's a hall of fame for mascots you clowns may finally be able to boast about something, although even the Canes mascot is more famous than what you losers have to offer.

It has become a national pastime for people to laugh at the Gators...LMAO!!!

This was hilarious!! Especially the Mr. 2 Bits line. That is what a Gayturd who trolls on a rivals site is worth, 2 bits.

LOL gators on this blog.

Please, Billy Donovan, if I ever have to see his forehead and greased back hair I will vomit.

Why are gator sports so -ay? And why do they constantly have girlie players with their long hair and bandanas and why are they so soft in everything?

The gator flop started everything. It demonstrated to the world what its's like to be a gator.

You all will forever be associated with the word FLOP.

UM will always be better than you. Accept it. And what's worse, is that its a private school with small alumni base, poor attendance, no stadium, and according to you all, bad facilities.

UM has still beaten you and your kissin cousins FSU more times. UM has as many NCS than both of your redneck schools TOGETHER. Gohome gaytr rednks , go home to your cousins. They be waitin'

Thank God Haith is gone. The people at Missouri have got to be the stupidest group out there to want Haith but really who cares we are done with him finally. Missouri is the show me state right? Well the only thing Haith can show them is how to lose and then Missouri will show him the door. Got rid of two losers in SHannon and Haith in six months time. All those years of suffering watching both of them screw things up has finally come to an end.

God golden isnt going anywhere in 2 yrs. First off u never know when paterno will retire. Rumor is shiano wants that job also. So golden may never even be offered the penn st. job. That said hocutt left to go home. Shannon was fired. So thats not even a good example thats like saying damn your coach was fired no one is gonna wanna coach u now u arent a destination job anymore cause your coach left. He was fired idiot. Haith was never gonna be a long term guy. I think his teams underachieved. Team never had fan support cause they werent winning. But u are right florida got themselves a coach with a great track record in football didnt they? oh wait i dont think he has coached a game as a head coach. Then your basketball coach quit on u 2 times meyer quit on u 2 times so yea u are destination u at florida Miami is the one no one wants to coach right i understnad the logic now.

Amen Brother!!!

The Gator cowards from Armpit USA have always been known as the "Flops".

What's their latest excuse (lie) for refusing to renew the series with the Canes? The big-bad Gators from the terrifying SEC scared to death to play a small private ACC college. How can that be? The Gators...a proud history of cowardice, cheating and losing!

Again, the college football world never tires of laughing at the team that runs from its own shadow…4 away games last year, 4 away games this year and trying to get it down to no away games period…real men…LMAO!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI0vfaq1WOU

Heck, everyone's leaving UM...
We should move to Conference USA or something,
cause obviously we can't compete in ACC in basketball and football...

Also Brodsky do you even now what you are talking about. Hocutt left to go home. Shannon, for all of his qualities didn't win when he needed to four years no 10 win season, 0-2 in bowl games and some really puzzling losses. And the only way Morris ever leaves if he is named the AD at Georgia Tech, or he retires. Let's see. How many years has Morris been at the U 18 years and won two national titles. If you are a Gators fan that means three baseball coaches have been there since Morris took over. And FSU though Martin has been there for 31 years with no national titles. so please do your homework.

adam. I think Morris' days should be numbered as well.

Good on YA. Numbered why, last year he led us to the Super Regionals, we have struggled at times. But Morris deserves to be here as long as he wants. But in baseball unlike in any other sport, you can lose recruits. Think of how good Miami could have been if we didn't lose four recruits to the majors

Larry Brown!!

Eudocimus,
You get it! Bruce Pearl has got the orange thing down.

Trouble with the NCAA? So what.

Bring the garb, orange suspenders and all, to Miami!

NO NO TO COACH CHEAT FROM TN. I may have not been a big fan of FH but at least he was honest. The facilities and the money need to be increased. The fact that Miami is a "football" school shoul have nothing to do with the approach and hiring of a new basketball coach. Get someone young with good recruiting skills. This is ACC basketball and an opportunity to make a mark. Again we do not need a cheater-this is his second "conviction"

THE U football has a tradition because of championships as does baseball. THE U basketball would have a tradition if they won championships, but they haven't. In Miami, you win and they come. Period. Too many smoking, hot chickas running around to be worrying about a bottom of the ACC barrel bball team. Ya digs?

Haith simply could not get the big fish (John Wall or Brandon Knight). Actually, I think he didn't land a single McDonald All American his entire tenure here. That's like football not getting a blue chip, ever. You gotta land the big fish (see dudes listed above) in order to make a run UNLESS lady luck comes visiting (see 2010/2011 VCU). Ya digs?

GO CANES!!!

It looks like Mike Jarvis is coming. Welcome to the U!

Is Trailerville the armpit of the USA? Ignorant Quran burners want to know.

BWAAAAHAH. YOU SUCK Pig.

Why won't U face it: UM is not a basketball own, is not a basketball school. rick barry could not put U on map. In fact, it's not really a baseball town, either, in spite of....

When U build an arena, they will come. haith is not better or worse than past u coaches.

Plz DO NOT bring Bruce Pearl to U. He is a big lier and cannot be trusted. He'll win, but the inmates will once again be free. U see, U will reap the RS loss; U will reap the Haith loss; Read the writing on the wall. U is not a sports town. period.

Hahaha, yup, I was right, all day long!

What a f*cking loser.

Hope UUUU guys are happy. Congratulations to coach Haith on his new venture and thanxs for all your hard work. I can't see Frank Martin leaving K-State. With that being said how about Cliff Warren. The coach at JU. A young sharp coach on the rise. A Shaka Smart type coach.
