Preston Dewey, who plays for former Heisman winner Ty Detmer, latest QB to commit to Canes (w/video)

The 2012 quarterback competition at the University of Miami got a little more interesting Friday.

Preston Dewey Preston Dewey, a 6-3, 205-pound senior-to-be from Austin, Texas, became the third (and potentially last) quarterback to join the the Hurricanes' upcoming signing class when he called Hurricanes coaches to let them know he was committing to the school.

Dewey, who is coached in high school by former Heisman winner Ty Detmer, participated in a camp at UM over the weekend and shined at the TCU Elite 11 competition earlier in the spring. He joins Gray Crow and David Thompson as quarterbacks headed to the program. Both Dewey and Crow are expected to enroll in January.

The 11th overall commitment for the Hurricanes class of 2012, Dewey threw for over 1,500 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.
