Mike James: Wet and hopefully not wild!

Few will forget University of Miami running back Mike James' fumble at Maryland. James can't get it out of his mind.

As he was sprinting down the sideline, the ball was knocked loose by a Maryland defender and landed in the arms of lineman Joe Vellano, who rumbled for a 30-yard touchdown with 47 seconds left in the first half.

Fellow running back and James' apartment mate Lamar Miller said James obsesses on his mistakes and won't let them go. James, who calls himself a perfectionist, agrees. The only thing he vows not to let go in UM's home opener Saturday against Ohio State: the football.

What has James done to prevent fumbling against the Buckeyes? Wet his whole body at practice using a water bottle  -- and run!

"Oh man, I'm more than motivated. I've been mad for 12 days,'' James said Tuesday after practice. "Every night I got to sleep thinking about it. I wake up thinking about it. I go to class thinking about it. Everything else is irrelevant. I'm just ready to play the ball game.''

James said he has been wetting his arms, his body and the ball. "Usually in the middle of practice I just wet my whole body. Just in case it rains or I'm too sweaty I'm preparing for that. I get my whole body wet. I get a water bottle and just spray my whole body down. I used to do it my freshman year, but I just got back doing it.

"I should have never stopped."

James finished with 12 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown at Maryland. He also caught two passes for 21 yards.

Miller carried 18 times for 119 yards and a touchdown. He caught two passes for three yards, and returned four kickoffs for 100 yards.

James, you are to good of a running back to worry about 1 fumble. I know you will make up for it in the next game you play. Always look forward and not behind. What is done is done. Just learn from what happened and things will work out. The U is going to have a great season. Go Canes......

40% chance of rain on Saturday nigth - 0% chance of a fumble. Just bring the wood!

I am a fan of MIKE JAMES! Looking forward to the game on Saturday night!

MIKE JAAAAAAAAMES!!!!

Don't worry about it man. Trust me I know what a fumble feels like. Maybe not at the collegiate level but varsity high school I had 1 fumble in 4 yrs. It happened in my freshmen year and haunted me until I was a senior. Then my senior year I had a screen pass come to me and the DB picked it off. I chased him down and striped the ball back and brought it back to the line of scrimmage before I got pulled down. In some way it helped me get over it. I know you will get over this too. Bring the F'n wood on saturday and lay it across anyone's head that gets in front of you. I've been a personal supporter of yours since you got to The U. I know you can do this.

oh ya, fire shalalalalallalalalala

You got problems!

Hey Coach P, you need to do some homework on this woman before you speak against someone else. We never had the shapiro problem until she got here and then she raised the academic entrance standards. That, in turn, makes it more difficult for some of the highly touted athletes from around the country (let alone our athletically gifted State of Miami) to get into The U and end up going to fswho and gaysville.

Get a clue Coach P.

Fire the Hobbit!!!!

I'm with ltcdolphin a million percent on this one.

I was just reading the article posted by Susan about the Boosters not being allowed on the sideline during games and have to say that seems like possibly a good thing. The part that is stupid to me is the fact that Shalaber and the AD are not allowing former players on the sideline. Have they lost their freaking minds? Thats what makes the U the U, you pencil pushing morons. Thats part of our tradition. What Shalaber and Eichoist need to do is start investigating these boosters and do their homework. How the hell are U going to restrict former players that made this school and program relevant.

I'm with the rest of them that say Fire Shalala NOW!

UM is #38 in the most recent U.S. News college rankings. Shalala is not going to be fired. Sorry.

yea- and the entire lot of them - from the professors to rest of staff are bleeding-heart libs - that's why no $$ support from me anymore

Football polls
UM = 66
FIU = 43

We've hit rock bottom.

Mike James; Don't sweat that maryland thing! Crap happens! Now let's go an knock some heads. We owe Ohio st. some $ss kicking! GO CANES!!

20K Cane Fans ... 30K OSU Fans ... 25K Upper Tarps ...

Facts? UFelony is located in a trailerpark infested with bible-thumping ignorant 'necks.

Even if there were 6 people at the game, Canes would still play in PRIME TIME.

Gatards? Jefferson Pilot at noon. Or ESPN 360.

Inferiority complex. It's where you at, Gatr maggots.

I'm with this guy. FORMER PLAYERS DESERVE TO BE ON THE SIDELINES. THEY WERE NEVER THE PROBLEM, BOOSTERS WERE, PERIOD!!!

FORMER PLAYERS DESERVE TO BE ON THE SIDELINES ENCOURAGING AND MENTORING OUR YOUNGER PLAYERS TO MAKE THEM BETTER PLAYERS AND BETTER MEN.

SHALALALALAA YOU HAVE SUNKEN TO A NEW LOW YOU F'ING MIDGET.

LEAVE THE STATE OF MIAMI WHILE YOU STILL CAN WITH THE HEALTH THAT YOU HAVE.

BE GONE WITCH!!!!!!!!

shalalalala...

you are asking for real trouble if you continue this idea of not allowing former players onto the field.

But hey, maybe you have a death wish. I dunno because I don't know how stupid you really are. But you are showing us that daily with this BS.

FIRE SHALALALALA FIRE HER NOW!!!!!!!!!

James needs to move on. Anybody can make a mistake. He doesn't need to put too much pressure on himself or it will happen again. He just needs to be fundamentally sound. He knew he had the ball on the wrong side of his body on the play. That is why Golden preaches about fundamentals. Just play the way you're coached and things will work out.

MIKE JAAAAAAAAMESSSS!!!!

U CAN DO IT!!!

CANE NATION IS BEHIND U. WE LOVE U MAN. C'MON WIT IT!!!!!

BREAK OUT THE SWITCH AND WHIP THAT ASS!!!!

high and tight kid. wont ever have to worry about that issue again

Only problem I have coach p is that I know her history. If you did you know better.

Fire SHALALALALALA NOW

Wait a minute! I disagree with many of the posters on here. It is not alright to fork up the ball in crucial moments of the game. James needs to hype on this for the rest of the season for the rest of playing career. One play, one turnover, one penalty, and one lapse in judgement can change the outcome of a game, or the chance to play in the ACC championship, or a NC. YOU MESSED UP ROYALLY!!! DON'T FORGET AND LEARN FROM YOUR MISTKES!!! Stick it to zero state on Saturday, see you all there
!!!

Tell me a little about her history?

O wait........

You don't know anything about her history besides what you read.

And I just read today that the school is now moving up under her watch!

http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/09/13/2403967/um-gains-ground-in-college-rankings.html

Oh coach p you really ought to not jump so fast. Really can make you look foolish. If you really care check put her tenure at Wisconsin. Pretty bad.
Get back when you finish eating humble pie

Fire SHALALALALALA NOW

Coach P is a DOUCHE!!!!

Do some real research instead of looking up what the Miami Herald wrote up this morning.

FACT: Shapiro never set foot on the U until she got here.

FACT: While shalalalalala was at wisconsin, shapiro milked Coach Barry Alvarez for a Million dollars.

FACT: You are a douch coach p and a smelly one at that.

FACT: You love humble pie so eat up.

HEY COACH P

I really hope you don't actually call yourself a CANE FAN. Because you certainly don't sound like one. If you are, then you are the only one that likes this hobbit. Academically we were just fine in regards to educational institutions of the beautiful State of Florida. We have a great medical school, law school, marine school, etc... Is that not good enough for you? That's plenty in the eyes of many Floridians plus the fact that we bring in national championships. So a university (a private one at that) with great medical, law, marine campuses and national recognition as a football powerhouse isn't enough for you? Man you have issues that run deep.

Get a grip Coach P, you are a douche. You just don't know it yet.

Let me know how the humble pie was...Hope it was good and you learned something while you were eating it.

Easy does it caneforlife. Don't stoop to that level of coach p. Probably nothing more than a hearld troll getting the count up

You're right ltcdolphin. I'm simply emotionally attached to my Canes so I get worked up.

CANE FAN 4 LIFE

AND OH YA...

FIRE SHALALALALALA

Boise State hit with sanctions, loss of scholarships and hit with lack of institutional control for violations that included at least 75 athletes in at several sports. 75 athletes involved and the NCAA said it gave them a competitive advantage.

Where is Mark Mays call for the Boise State athletic department to get the Death Penalty? Where is the ESPN, Yahoo and Sporting World's outrage, 75 athletes? How many Mr. May 72, 75, 125 before your self righteousness calls for the death penalty for Boise State athletics? How many Mr.Selective Outrage Righteousness? How Many?

Shalala hired the best coach Wisconsin ever had, how was her football related tenure there bad? She generates tons of money for the school and has mad e UM the fastest rising school in the top 50 of the rankings. She's not getting fired, not unless they find out she was hand delivering money to players and personally administering stripper abortions

Canetilidie. Double that time plus a few years.

Agreed Anonymous Cane. Mark May is a DBag that's been hating on the canes for years. He said the same crap after the FIU fight he just can't stand us.

Canetilidie. Double that time plus a few years.

Very nice ltcdolphin, very nice. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm 32.

James did not lose the Maryland. Poor coaching decisions by the second coming of Nix and not using superstars Miller, James the right way in the running game lost the game. The OL is a bright spot.

Anonymous Cane: Here's Ur answer: Nobody cares about Boise State because they only play two good teams a year, and the rest of the schedule is a "tune up" for those games. They are the most overrated team ever!!! Their QB is so-so at best.

Mike James, it was not that you lost the ball. You got hit on the arm from the blindside and that's something that happens all the time. But what you can't afford to do is loose focus on this then something else pops up. Play the game the way you have always played the game. Or else you will take away from your overall effectiveness as a running back thus hurting yourself and ultimately your entire team. IT'S A NEW DAY! GO CANES DOMINATE!!!

Also Boise's worst violations were in sports like women's tennis and androgynous harry potter broomball. Only a couple were in football.

Posted by: SunnyDee

You want to bet? All people know about UM is this crazy scandal. Sad but true.

Posted by: 'Cool 'Cat

The OL was the bright spot? They couldn't consistently run block a defensive front consisting of freshman.

No blame falls on our suspended defensive players right?

MarkA. She was only president when he was hired and followed the Boards direction. Besides she left shortly thereafter to be with Hillary in DC.

Canetilidie Double that

Just read the no former players on the sideline deal....what an f'ing b**ch! Ed Reed can't be on the sidelines for his own school?

Stupid troll.

Did you not see the Maryland game championships and CANETILLIDIE....DH?

Ed Reed was on the sideline, they are letting players back on the sideline now after Larry Coker (NOT Shalala) banned players after the 2003 Fiesta Bowl where former players may have "rattled" the current players in OT.

BTW CANETILLIDIE...DH,

"Academically we were just fine in regards to educational institutions of the beautiful State of Florida. We have a great medical school, law school, marine school, etc... Is that not good enough for you?"

You have NO IDEA what Donna Shalala's job is at the University of Miami, do you?

Oh, and FIU fan - the Massey polls have UM at 48 and Florida International at 65.

ltcdolphin

Show me some of what you know???? Facts????

Name one thing she did at Miami that was wrong???????

Again, you no nothing!
