The Hurricanes (2-2) take on the 21st-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies (4-1) at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va. seeking to avoid an 0-2 start in ACC play. The last time UM started 0-2 in the ACC? 2008 when they lost to North Carolina and Florida State at home in back-to-back games. Saturday's kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. The game can be seen on ABC in the Southeast and on ESPN throughout most of the rest of the country (except parts of Texas, etc). Here is your Canes' TV coverage map.
> ABOUT THE HOKIES: Virginia Tech is coming off a 23-3 loss to Clemson at home a week ago. The Hokies haven't lost back-to-back games at home since 2002. The Hokies rolled to a 31-7 win the last time the Canes came to Lane Stadium. UM has only won one of the last five meetings. The Hokies lost five starters on each side of the ball from last year's ACC championship team including quarterback Tyrod Taylor. This Hokies team still has plenty of playmakers on offense, led by star tailback David Wilson (7th in nation in rushing), cornerback Jayron Hosley (3 INTs) and defensive ends J.R. Collins (leads ACC with 4.5 sacks) and James Gayle (3.5 sacks). Virginia Tech's national rankings on defense: 2nd vs. rush (58.20), 4th in total yards (249.60) and 29th versus the pass (191.40). The Hokies are also currently ranked 2nd in the nation in time of possession (35:48).
> WHAT TO WATCH FOR THE CANES: There have been two big injuries on UM's defense in the aftermath of the Bethune-Cookman win: starting strongside linebacker Ramon Buchanan (knee) and defensive tackle Marcus Forston (knee) have both been lost for the season. The Canes, ranked 105th in run defense, will suit up four healthy defensive tackles Saturday: Micanor Regis, Darius Smith, Olsen Pierre and former defensive end Adewale Ojomo. Tailbacks Mike James and Lamar Miller have also been playing banged up for the Canes, who on the positive side should get more production this week from sophomore tackle Seantrel Henderson. Hard-hitting safety Ray-Ray Armstrong is also back this week from suspension UM. If there is something the Canes may be able to exploit against Tech it's special teams. While that may sound surprising considering Frank Beamer's team has shined for so long on that side of the ball, Virginia Tech actually ranks 117th in net punting. UM's Travis Benjamin has had long returns in back-to-back weeks for UM and may be able to break one. In two games versus the Hokies, Jacory Harris is 10 of 27 for 153 yards with one interception.
> MY PICK: Virginia Tech 34, UM 21. The Hokies aren't as good a football team as they were a year ago -- Clemson showed us that. But the Hokies still have plenty of weapons on both sides of the ball and it's hard to picture them losing back-to-back games at home. Are the Canes totally overmatched? No. But the problems on run defense are very real. This team sorely misses Allen Bailey, Colin McCarthy and Brandon Harris, who all were exceptional on run defense. Ray-Ray will provide a lift. But the Hokies know how to ground and pound. They ran for 251 yards against UM a year ago. And against UM this season, that's all you really need to be able to do well to have success.

Damn! Great game! I am proud of the fellas! The U!!!

dont let that last series fool you. this loss is ENTIRELY on our d, and on mark d. our offense, jacory, miller, amazing. the fake fg? please. if it had worked we would call it a genius, and that was not on anyone, and wasnt even close to why we lost.
no acc. no great bowl game. and not for the next two to three years after sanctions. canes fans.....we are heartbroken.
Posted by: inimounts | October 08, 2011 at 07:03 PM
What a shame that a fantastic offensive performance is shot to hell by a gutless, spineless defense and a stupid fake field goal call! Cannot dump this one on Jacory.
Posted by: Nebur | October 08, 2011 at 07:04 PM
That;s what you get for acting like a little biatch, Jacory.

Man, D'Afro is a horrible D Cord.

After the coaches review the tape they should all come to the conclusion that the receiver wearing # 1 should be benched. He is not capable of down field blocking or he simply refuses. Sit him on the bench and find a team player.

I feel bad for the OFFENSE....Miami's defense could not stop a high school team today.
However, Miami was playing with so many defensive players hurt...using under classmen at almost every position.
Great effort by the Hurricanes!
We needed one big stop, and we couldn't get it.
GO CANES!!

Jacory is having himself one fine senior year. Morris will be carrying the clipboard this year. QB rating 155

Where was the pressure? The hand full of times we did the Qb was retarded.
Posted by: Jersey Cane | October 08, 2011 at 07:08 PM
Not watching this looser again this season.. have better things to do...
Posted by: jerry | October 08, 2011 at 07:08 PM
Proud of the Canes for fighting back. A great job by Jacory in the second half.
It is obvious that we have no defense, no pass rush and a very weak secondary and that cost us the miracle turnaround.
But if the O keeps rolling, we will beat some teams this year.
Go Canes! Aw, man, that hurts!
Posted by: dbc | October 08, 2011 at 07:08 PM
I blame Jacory.
Posted by: Can't stand Jacory | October 08, 2011 at 07:08 PM
Jacory plays a great game and you brain dead idiot morons still bash jacory !!! get a life and go root for the gators!! we dont need idiot Cane fans !!! GREAT GAME JACORY AND LAMAR!!! THE DEFENSE IS TO BLAME FOR THIS ONE !! i question the def. coordinator for lack of game planning and adjustments!!

Man, you guys suck. Canes suck, Fins suck, hey maybe the Panthers will do something.
Posted by: Hurricane? More like Tropical Depression | October 08, 2011 at 07:10 PM
To everyone that is talking mess about Jacory.....knock it off. This man is doing his job. It's the defense that is giving up everything. Let's face it Miami needs a new Defensive coordinator fast. The Offense is there. If the Defense can't stop their opponents we will never win another game. Mark.D gotta go.
Posted by: 850cane | October 08, 2011 at 07:10 PM
Jacory harris has to be the stupidest Quarterback that we have ever had and this is the worse defense there has ever been at the U. Why in the hell would you throw a ball for a 15 yard out to miller with only 5 seconds to play. This ain't Boise. Other than that Jacory played a good game but he has no concept of time and situation. We are very close to being a good team but this defense has got to start coming together.
Posted by: championships is all that matters | October 08, 2011 at 07:11 PM
Jacory should have scored a TD on that last possession. What a failure that kid is.
Posted by: DepressedCanesFan | October 08, 2011 at 07:11 PM
Wow, what a slugfest! Miami has nothing to be ashamed of. The game went as it did (no game's perfect), but what a thrilling game. This game's performance will be a catalyst for the rest of the season. GO CANES!!!
Posted by: Lotsathings | October 08, 2011 at 07:11 PM
ive been a cane fan for more than 40 years and ive never seen a more crappy defense than this one..i like golden but i think he should have left his defense buddy behind,he is clearly overmatched and from watching doesnt seem to have a clue of how to run a defense.either he needs to do his job or get someone who has a clue..
Posted by: russ ellis | October 08, 2011 at 07:12 PM
What's the matter, Jacory? Can't make a 20+ completion when it counts? Loser. Can you say JaMarcus Russell?
Posted by: Rob | October 08, 2011 at 07:12 PM
This game's performance will be a catalyst for the rest of the season.
Posted by: Lotsathings | October 08, 2011 at 07:11 PM
I agree. Miami will keep losing.
Posted by: CanesSuckFest | October 08, 2011 at 07:13 PM
I don't usually post comments on this message board because a lot of dumb people think they're coaches nowadays but if someone wants to blame jacory and seriously place this loss on him can pound sand...
The reason we lost this game is because of the worst Miami defense in 25 years. Im proud of how the boys played today but at the end of the day I still believe in the U and there is no such thing as a moral victory. The road gets no easier so I hope our defense can figure it out but let's end that jacory vs Stephen debate
Posted by: Bobby Thompson | October 08, 2011 at 07:13 PM
If your high school recruit and play defense. There is 11 spots open for u next year.
Posted by: GFunk 37 | October 08, 2011 at 07:14 PM
FAKE FG. COME ON GUYS WE CAN DO IT!
Posted by: Worst.D.Ever. | October 08, 2011 at 07:15 PM
this is really disheartening, to everyones surprise jacory harris is playing excellent football, the offense is playing outstanding and the defense cannot help them out, its ridiculous to think this team battled back under pressure, they had the game won and left it to the defense and the defense made it easy. This is just disheartening and no excuse for the way this defense is playing.
Posted by: johnny | October 08, 2011 at 07:15 PM
Why can't Jacory score when it counts? Yes, the defense is pathetic, but Jacory is the QB, he needs to make it count.
Posted by: MIA3054life | October 08, 2011 at 07:15 PM
Donofrio must befired. That last td was on spende. He was out of position. He had no business being where he was. Left the middle wide open. What is his position? Yeah middle lb.
Donofrio si horrible. You meqn you coldnt hold this mediocre team to a fg? Pathetic
Golden i dont care ow good of q friend donofrio is he must be fired. Never mind the injuries. The defensive shemes were pathetic. You mean you couldnt put a safety in to prevent thet td?
So if our dbs are so pathetic why not put in finnie or crawford? That needs to be done or else they wil transfer.
Seriously i caanot and will not watch this garbage anymore. This is torture
B
Id rather be water boarded. Now i know how al qaeda feels
What did i say earlier?
This is the worst miami defense in the last 27 yrs. We vant beat these damned pretenders of the hokies. They win eff....en 10 games a yr and nver win anything
Peace out people im jumping off a bridge

U guys r retarded. No Jacory = a blowout by VT.
Posted by: ConeQue | October 08, 2011 at 07:18 PM
Defense can't stop anyone with just 4 guys rushing the QB. Jacory cannot be relied upon to make smart football decisions on a regular basis. Poor time clock mismanagement on the last series.

Come on MIA3054life:
Jacory and the O did thier job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: jack | October 08, 2011 at 07:18 PM
Im proud of the canes today. 2-3 but the team shows fight. They have been in every game. They are looking like they will turn it around. Man I love cfb
Posted by: CaneDolfan386 | October 08, 2011 at 07:21 PM
First. U'all Jacory HATERS sUck the bloody BIG pen!s!!!!
Second. DEFENSE-less Onofrio absolutely should FIRED at the end of the season!!!!! No if's, bUt's or maybe's. And I don't care if he's Golden's child!
Third. This lost is on Coach Golden too. No freakin' way does any A.C.C. coach take 3 POINTS of the board. Especially on the road in REDNECKburgh.
That was A chip shot for Wiecliewz-sp. if I evers saw one.
Fourth. Again, DEFENSE-less Onofrio's EPIC blUnder. Where the bloody fUc! was the free safety on that game losing fourth and one. Even at the junior high school level, a safety has to be the last line of defense.
Finally, I opined at the end of the Maryland loss, that Miami's offense would have to carry the squad the entire season.
And baby, I didn't realize how ABSOLUTELy terribe DEFENSE-less Onofrio's group was until after the Bethune game.
Yet, I still knew Miami could win in REDNECKburgh. Too bad on moi that I gave the Hurricanes defense the benefit of the doubt.
MAYBE this Cane team finishes with a 7-5 record. But that's a reach in the dark. If U'all know what I mean.

Come on MIA3054life:
Jacory and the O did thier job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: jack | October 08, 2011 at 07:18 PM
Yeah, except when it counted the most. All we needed was 25 yeards in those last 19 secs, and he couldn't get it. How can you win championships like that? Lets not even talk about the D until that jerk Mark is fired. And Golden needs to heavily scrutinized about that fake field goal. Nuts.
Posted by: MIA3054life | October 08, 2011 at 07:21 PM
The defense is this team's achilles heal. Nice game by the offense today. Well done, Jacory. We simply don't have the talent on the D side of the ball....this was clear after the game against Maryland. It was highlighted even more so against Bethune.
Don't judge this coaching staff until they have their own players with the proper conditioning and proper mentality. Golden will bring them around!
Go Canes!

MORE IDIOT MIAMI FANS POSTING BS ABOUT JACORY !!! GET OFF THIS MANS NUTS !!!! Brandon Mcgee has cost us two games!
Posted by: canesallltheway | October 08, 2011 at 07:22 PM
@Mia3054life homie it's not on Jacory. It's all on the Defense. That's who I put all the blame on.
Posted by: 850cane | October 08, 2011 at 07:23 PM
Is there any college footbal team in Florida that has pride on Defense ?
Florida gives up 41 points to LSU.
Miami gives up 38 points to VaTech.
FSU gives up 35 points to WakeFores!!!!.
What the Heck is going one here? Even though offense are juggernauts like they used to be, that's not the problem they are getting out on D, that's problem...
Posted by: Reuben | October 08, 2011 at 07:23 PM
Bro Jacory played good. Our defense sucks & our DC is the worst play call ever!!
