What will Canes 2012 depth chart look like? Here's my best guess minus Lamar Miller

When the Hurricanes football season ended Nov. 25 it felt like we had a firm grasp as to who was coming back next season and who might be leaving early.

Will Lamar Miller stick around? The consensus feeling was running back Lamar Miller would probably go and there was a chance defensive end Olivier Vernon and safety Ray-Ray Armstrong could join him. Since then, none of those three have announced anything, but receiver Tommy Streeter -- who at one point said he was coming back -- and defensive tackle Marcus Forston, who missed two seasons worth of games with injuries, decided they were heading out the door.

Could other unexpected third and fourth-year juniors follow suit? Absolutely. Who will leave? I've got no leads. But the more I think about the situation with Forston, the more I believe Al Golden had no problem letting him out the door. Anyone who has battled injury or has sat on the bench for 2-3 years without making an impact will probably be encouraged to leave, freeing up precious scholarships the school needs to load up on this next signing class.

Although Golden said in his press conference he believed "the worst was behind us" in terms of what sanctions UM could be facing from the NCAA, I've heard on my travels throughout Miami-Dade and Broward high schools over the past two weeks Golden and his assistants have been telling recruits "scholarships are limited." Several local coaches have told me UM is anticipating losing scholarships and thus is doing its best to create room by encouraging some current players to walk. Again, just what I'm hearing from outside -- nothing concrete from UM.

That being said, UM's depth chart will look awfully young next year. That's an enticing sell for freshman who want to play right away, but not necessarily a good look for an improvement from 6-6. Here's is the projected depth chart at the moment, assuming Miller leaves (rated second best RB by NFLDraftScout.com) and everyone else returns:

OFFENSE
QB: Stephen Morris, Jr. | Ryan Williams, Jr.
RB: Mike James, Sr. | Eduardo Clements, Jr. | Darion Hall, R-So.
FB: Maurice Hagens, Jr. | John Calhoun, Sr.
WR: Allen Hurns, Jr. | Rashawn Scott, So.
WR: Phillip Dorsett, So. | Kendall Thompkins, Sr.
TE: Clive Walford, R-So. | Dyron Dye, R-Jr. | Asante Cleveland, Jr.
LT: Seantrel Henderson, Jr. | Jermaine Johnson, R-Jr.
LG: Brandon Washington, Sr. | Jeremy Lewis, Sr.
C: Shane McDermott, R-So. | Jared Wheeler, R-Jr.
RG: Brandon Linder, Jr. | Malcolm Bunche, R-So.
RT: Jonathan Feliciano, R-So. | Jermaine Barton, R-So.

DEFENSE
DE: Anthony Chickillo, So. | Shayon Green, R-Jr.
DT: Adewale Ojomo, Sr. | Jalen Grimble, So.
DT: Curtis Porter, Jr. | Darius Smith, Sr.
DE: Olivier Vernon, Sr. | Olsen Pierre, So.
WLB: Denzel Perryman, So. | C.J. Holton, Sr.
MLB: Kelvin Cain, Jr. | Gionni Paul, So.
SLB: James Gaines, Jr. | Eddie Johnson, So.
CB: Brandon McGee, Sr. | Dallas Crawford, So.
CB: Thomas Finnie, So. | Kacy Rodgers, Jr.
SS: Ray-Ray Armstrong, Sr. | Andrew Swasey, Sr.
FS: Vaughn Telemaque, Sr. | A.J. Highsmith, R-Jr.

SPECIAL TEAMS
K: Jake Wiecalw, Sr. | Matt Goudis, So.
P: Dalton Botts, Jr.
KR: Phillip Dorsett, So. | Davon Johnson, Sr.
PR: Phillip Dorsett, So. | Kendall Thompkins, Sr.

> Now, this depth chart didn't have a single incoming freshman included in it because obviously they haven't officially signed a National Letter of Intent. But if you look at the players UM has committed at the moment, it's obvious receivers Angelo Jean-Louis (Palm Beach Central) and Malcolm Lewis (Miramar High) and running back Duke Johnson (Miami Norland) all have an opportunity to come in and help right away on offense and special teams.

Defensively, there are huge glaring holes and needs in the secondary and at linebacker. The most college ready linebackers are considered Raphael Kirby (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and Reggie Northrup (Jacksonville First Coast). The true freshman corner that could make an impact is Coral Reef's Vernon Davis. Little known JUCO corner Ladarius Gunter -- a recent commitment -- could also play right away as well as any other junior college additions.

So what do you think of this depth chart and the outlook for 2012? Discuss.

At K-St and at ND are two of the 4

That is a sad depth chart indeed. The saddest part? I can tell if it's secondary or qb......we will not go anywhere with Stephen Morris as our qb. He throws way too many picks, costs more games than he wins, and.....well, isn't that enough? We are in trouble, and hopefully fisch sees he doesn't have a qb.....the problem is that most of the great qbs coming out of high school are already taken.

Bethune Cookman and So Fla at home

IF YOU LOOK AROUND THE ACC, ALOT OF TEAMS WILL BE YOUNG NEXT YEAR. WE COULD WIN BUT WE COULD ALSO TAKE A STEP BACK. YES, MILLER AND STREETER WAS OUR OFFENCE LAST YEAR, BUT THEY WERE THE BEST AT THAT TIME. LIKE THE BEST NEXT YEAR MIGHT NOT EVEN BE ON THE DEPT CHART NOW. I SAY YOUNG IS BETTER, BECAUSE THOSE OLD HEADS ARE STUCK IN THERE OLD WAYS, WHICH IS LOSING. NOT GOIN ALL OUT. ONLY GIVES EFFORT WHEN THINGS ARE GOING GOOD. GLAD THESE BOYS ARE LEAVING, WE ARE GLORIFYING MILLER AND STREETER FOR STATS BUT THOSE UNTOLD STATS WERE WHEN THEY WERE AT THERE BEST, WE LOST THOST GAMES. STREETER DID DROP THE TYING BALL TO WIN AGAINST VIRGINIA. WHAT GOOD DEFENCE DID MILLER RUN THROUGH. VIRGINIA, SOUTH FLORIDA, FSU. HE DID NOTHING AGAINST GOOD TEAMS AS WELL AS STREETER. MOST OF THEYRE YARDS CAME FROM PLAYING GARBAGE DEFENCES. YALL STAT READERS ARE BEGGING FOR PLAYERS TO COME BACK AND REALLY DONT UNDERSTAND. DONT YOU KNOW MILLER AND STREETER KNOWS THEY WERE ONLY GOOD AGAINST INFERIOR OPPONENTS AND MAY NOT GET THAT LUCKY NEXT YEAR. SO WHY NOT LEAVE AND GET THE MONEY. THEY KNOW THEY ARENT WHAT SOME OF YALL THINK. ITS LIKE GOING TO GET A FREE CHECK, WHY NOT.

we have another year left of Brandon McGee. Oh No VT is happy to know that.

White heron. So now when talking to five titles you change your idea. Which is it. The first one or the second one??
Stick around 5 titles, you see the pattern. But it looks like white heron and 5 titles is one in the same so it looks like someone is responding to him.
White heron you even live in Miami??

Canes suck period! And I love the Canes, but what recruit wants to play in front of 10,000 fans a stadium thats not your and garbage facilities?

All the money UM have you mean to tell me they cant upgrade the football facilities?

It doesn't matter who we have in the secondary, if we don't get no pass rush, they are going to get lit up. I think we had 23 sacks all year and if i'm correct 6 of those were against Betty Cookman. Can anyone remember the last time we had an A-A DT? Now we have one Verbal at that position (Little)and he's only 6'1. We got none last year, well we did get Corey King, to come in August. We need somebody like Eddie Goldman, who's on campus this weekend and a life long Canes fan to boot.Better show him some serious LOVE. I believe int he Golden one but his lack of urgency in this area, has me baffled. You can't wait till the last minute to try and shore up that area. We still have 2 LB's swaying in the breeze (Northrup & Burgess)Everything else looks pretty good, as far as bodies & depth, now lets finish with a few WOW factors.

I am not interested in explaining myself to someone who only wants to instigate me into an argument so he can get his boyfriend to praise him.

You're pathetic and I'm not at all interested in your opinion of my opinions.

Here's the comment I made 4 days ago that you were so desperate to refute. Go ahead and explain what a flip flopping troll I am, I'm sure canetillidie will validate you.

"dbc - that's a great point, I think players should have 6 years tuition to finish their degrees. Playing football is a full time job, not enough time to take a full college load in 4 years.

As far as the money stuff I lean more towards paying players and making the college game more professional (which it is anyway) than trying to propagate the farce of amateur student-athlete football."

Mac J,

The Golden One, did bloody descent, with leftovers that Randal bestowed on him. No, the temple job wasn't a Buckingham palace gig but he did at least show those urchins how to over come the atrocities, that had been laid on this perenial laughing stock of a program. I'm sure he had to get used to coaching this kind of so called talent, who were more accustomed to lavish praise, than the no star Temple players. Now that he sees how the other side works, he will be better for what he had to go through this year, with a bunch of out of shaped Prima Donnas. He got Jabboney to forget his color blindness, for all but one game, of course it just happened to be his swan song. I really don't see where he got out coached in three games. We lost because this is the culture these zeros were used too but i will give them credit they didn't quit but if Randy had been here we would of laid on the porch against K.ST, FSU & VA. Tech.

Say it ain't so but Tulane will build a footabll stadium. Let's see, what dinasours are left, UCLA, Stanford, Oh and Da "U" that don't have their very own "build it and they will come" stadium. I'm sure it can be discouraging for players to look up in the seats and see a paltry 35K, in that caverness stadium, that seats what, 80K. We need a Home stadium and if Fla. Atl. can build one why can't we? It stinks. All we need is a 45K seat palace.

PLEASE folks sign the #Stadium4Canes petition!! http://www.change.org/petitions/hurricanes-fans-for-a-hurricanes-stadium

Eudo, white heron, 5 titles. You do have cut copy and paste. But you did not do the whole entry, the replies, your lack of answers , but more importantly what you wrote back then and today are two different things. It's obvious you missed communications 101. Thanks for showing all that you are not consistent nor back up what you write.

Alrighty, then, Five titles. If you don't like what I write, then just scroll on by and just ignore it.

Why are you so invested in this?

Just scroll on by bubba, and ignore it.

I just think Soup is a disrespectful and arrogant assh--le who deserves to be called out. His site is not private, it's publicly accessible. He is a public person whether you like it or not, and based on his arrogance and ego, he does like it.

He should let people state their honest opinions and stop censoring opinions he doesn't like and maybe I'll stop calling him out.

Either way, Im free to call him or anybody else I like out.

Tom Thumb Popadak aka Skreetz aka Blog Drama Queen aka 86Cane throws a hissy fit and says he's shutting down canespace for good or until his period is over.

Dude has finally gone over the edge. He doesn't realize he's a laughingstock.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

And with those last few comments that is the official and final end of Canespace.

It has been fun. It has been real.

But at this point it is no longer real or fun. Good bye and good luck Canespacers!

Happy blogging...

Here are your and your boyfriend's brilliant replies and for any answers to your questions refer to my explanation to Five Titles above.

"Hey white heron, is this another case of not thinking before typing. You suggest 6 year scholarships, wow. Do you want the U ever to be relevant again?? That idea would make it almost impossible to be a contender again. Is it only for football?? What about all the other sports?? Maybe all scholarships should be 6 years because college life is so hard and rigorous.
Comon man think before you write.

We are in big trouble. All the seniors graduating and no experience at backup. Golden is recruiting as a second level school with USF and GT. This is before the sanctions hit.

Eudo, white heron, 5 titles. Exactly what I wrote. You really are good at cut and paste. So now we clearly can see you wrote two different things and have yet to answer from the other blog?? And it seems you have had a great exchange with yourself.

What recruits are being hosted this weekend?

WTF is this one guys obsession with Canespace? I get that youre banned from there. Your man crush on that guy is very creepy

Cut, paste, copy, glue... It's like kindergarten all over again. Don't forget to stay within the lines douche. Honestly white ibis wishes there were more gays in the world so he wouldn't feel so alone in his mother's house, sorry roommates house. Rent's late bit@h.

hahahahha all of your personalities are still no match you f'ing pathetic douche who munches on shalalalala crotch. I bet you wish your girlfriend/sexmaster shalalala was president of the united states... I wonder what scandal she'll bring to the white house. God Help Us All.

GO CANES 2012 HERE WE COME!!!

That macj tool has now been banned from every Hurricane site but this 1 I see. Another blogger thats nothing but a leg humper. Dont you need to go back to your Nebraska blog and pump that school up you moron. Or should I say bUbba. The next time someone understands what the he!! you are saying it will be the 1st time

Cane#1: it's bad, isn't it. Any worse and we would be the trailer garbage from UFailure.

That is the worst looking depth chart I have ever seen.

I think the death penalty might be a blessing.

Holy crap, I could put together a better group of players visiting the dining room of a fantasy football draft.

Rawzit, dont you have a gator site to go ruin? Its friday night so I know you trailorville boys have that bbq rat and zima on tap. Grab your milk crate to sit on before its gone

Any word on who is going to transfer. I am hearing that once the NCAA gives UM a 5 year bowl ban, that many of these young players will leave. I think next year the Canes might only win 3 games. I dont think Golden is that good, just because he has a cool name, wears a tie, and has cool hair; does not make him a good coach. U is not doing anything.

ALWAYS LOOKING FOR THAT 'HOPE' YA MORRIS WILL BE THE QB NEXT YEAR SO STOP LOOKING AND GET BEHIND HIM.

UM football is in the gutter.

herbieibis-

why dont you just create a typepad account? then you can post at canespace again...

Manny, why do you start rumors about recruiting limitations? Golden has already announced that he will get all scholarships for 2012. What he is referring to is there are so many recruits coming in that he only has a limited number of spots available...NOTHING at all to do with sanctions...

Ray Ray....Go Away! You can suck in the NFL.

I bet after looking at that depth chart Al Golden is begging Temple to take him back.

It all starts at the top, and Sha-la-la is your typical lib ideologue who actually believes UM, one of my alma-maters is the NYU of the south, but in reality came onto the national scene because of the football program. As she has continuously raised entrance requirements for incoming freshmen football players, will be hard to ever reach the level of the mid-late 80's or in 2000-2003.
The lib even supports Obamacare.

next two years 7-5. end of story. Catching the heavy weights in the SEC is a pipe dream of those living in the past. The U isn't interested in chasing that dream. All that is required of Golden to earn his money is a competitive ACC squad. Please people get a grip and enjoy life in the ACC.

Yo CANETILLIDIE, in regards to your "FIRE THE HOBBIT!!!", I totally agree with you!!! We need to go back to the post Pell Grant scandle and pre Shalala's standards!!! As a whole, you can't expect super athletes to be geeks and vice versa!!! Kids that possess a combination of those two God given qualities are rare.

@LoyalCane

Right?!?!?!

This is all that I'm asking for. If this is done, players like Kevin Grooms, Amos Leggett and many more can ACTUALLY attend the school of their dreams. Kevin Grooms had everyone literally drooling over him and he came straight out and said don't bother because I'm going to the U. Thanks to shalalalalal, that reality never came to be. Same goes for Amos Leggett. He's another that had a ton of schools all over him and he stated that Miami had the lead until our Coaches had to tell him that he would have to go to prep school to make his dream come true. Some players want to play and don't want to wait like that, I can respect that. Others like Taylor Gadbois was told to go to prep school and he did without question and never faltered when he said that The U was his school of choice since childhood. Some will do what they have to do to get to where they want to go and that must be respected but if we make it practically improbable for these players to come down south then something has to change. I think Golden will do something about that in the coming years. We'll see..

Side Note...

Allen Hurns had shoulder surgery and will most likely miss spring.

Anthony Chickillo had a "minor out-patient" type surgery and Golden said that he'll be good to go for spring ball.

2012 is looking interesting to me boys.
