Miami Hurricanes officially announce seven early enrollees

So, we've heard all along that up to eight, nine -- even more -- young pups would enroll this semester to take classes and participate in spring football practice. The Hurricanes announced seven this afternoon.

Others might be announced in the near future. In these situations, it usually comes down to paperwork involving academics.

For UM's sake, the more the better, because the school can only sign 25 newcomers on Feb. 1, known as National Signing Day. The kids who come in for this spring semester will be counted among last year's signing class.

Here's the release we just received from the University of Miami:

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The University of Miami and head football coach Al Golden announced Tuesday that seven student-athletes have enrolled early and joined the Hurricanes' football team as participants for the upcoming spring semester.

Gray Crow (Clearwater, Fla.), Preston Dewey (Austin, Texas), Ereck Flowers (Miami, Fla.), Taylor Gadbois (Dallas, Ga.), Ladarius Gunter (Montgomery, Ala.), Raphael Kirby (Stone Mountain, Ga.), and Josh Witt (Weston, Fla.) have all begun classes for the spring semester, which commenced today, Jan. 17.

The early enrollee positional breakdown is as follows: two quarterbacks (Crow, Dewey), two offensive linemen (Flowers, Gadbois), two linebackers (Kirby, Witt), and one defensive back (Gunter).

Crow hails from nearby Clearwater, where he graduated early from Countryside High School. He stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs a solid 230 pounds. He was ranked a three-star prospect, and threw for more than 1,600 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior.

Dewey enters the university as a highly-recruited prospect at the quarterback position. He was a four-star prospect and No. 133 overall regardless of position in ESPN's Top-150. Though he lost the bulk of his senior year to a wrist injury, he shined at the Elite 11 Camp hosted by TCU.

Flowers joins the Hurricanes from nearby Miami Norland High School, where he helped lead the Vikings to a 15-0 season and a 2012 Class 5A State Championship title. Flowers earned a four-star ranking at offensive tackle from both Rivals and Scout, and earned a No. 200 overall ranking regardless of position from Rivals.

Gadbois arrives at Miami after a half-season spent with Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Va. The Georgia-native stands at an impressive 6 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 300 pounds. He was ranked a three-star prospect by both Rivals and Scout.

Gunter begins his career as a junior after two seasons spent at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas. Originally hailing from Montgomery, Ala., Gunter had 24 tackles through seven games played at Fort Scott this past season. He had three tackles for loss, forced two fumbles and returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown.

Kirby enrolls as one of the most decorated players in Head Coach Al Golden's 2012 recruiting class. The Stone Mountain, Ga. native transferred to powerhouse Stephenson High School for his senior season, where he finished with 121 tackles, 18.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss. He was the fourth-ranked outside linebacker according to Rivals and earned an overall ranking of No. 89 regardless of position.

Witt makes the short trip to Coral Gables from his native Weston, Fla. where he starred at Cypress Bay High School. After playing quarterback through his sophomore season, Witt made the switch to linebacker and finished his junior season with more than 100 tackles. He earned First-Team All-Broward County honors from the BCAA after a 100-plus-tackle, 14-sack senior season with the Lightning.

The spring schedule officially begins on March 3, when Coach Golden and staff host their first practice of 2012.

 Stay tuned.

First off, great way to keep your commitments and stay true to your word gentlemen. Secondly, a whole hearted welcome to the University of Miami. You are attending a topl level academic and athletic institution and you guys are showing lots of devotion and commitment to the program with this NCAA situation still up in the air. You are a great example for other young men who want to wear the Green and Orange and be champions. Your commitment to the school, program and team will not go unrewarded. You all will be part of the class the class the makes the 'U' make a u-turn.

Great news.

Welcome to the U !!!

Welcome to the set.

Man I can't wait to see these guys in the spring game. I heard that Gray Crow has been eating and sleeping inside of the gym plus he's been going to tons of camps all around florida. He's got a nasty throw. There's almost a whistle on the ball after he releases it. Preston Dewey hurt his non-throwing hand (wrist) and missed his senior year but if you look at his highlight tapes, old #11 comes to my mind but with a slightly stronger throwing arm. Same timing, same intelligence. Josh Witt - people are concerned with this kid cause of his size at LB. Lets all remember that he switched from QB to LB and he plays with a never ending motor. That's honestly, the best hitting QB I've ever seen in my life, lol...Flowers will be great just need to get him into the weight room. Gadbois is a kid that I haven't stopped drooling over for over a year. This kid will die for us. Funny fact about Taylor Gadbois...This kid has been painting his bedroom orange and green since he was little. That came from an article that was quoting his dad. Kirby is gonna put on a show for us and I can't wait to see Ladarius Gunter play DB for us. Him with Dallas Crawford, Davon Johnson, Deon Bush, and Nate Dortch will hopefully be the pieces that we have been missing in the secondary.

April 14th will answer a ton of questions for us all at Joe Robbie Stadium.

I'm gonna try to see if I can head out to the Fort Myers scrimmage in March I believe. I got my tix for Battle of Florida this weekend saturday at FAU!!!!

GO CANES ALL DAY EVERYDAY!!!

college players heck NFL players need constant supervision, Dre Kirpatrick, from Alabama who announced he will skip his senior season was arrested in Florida, holding the goody bag, aka, Weed, whatayouknow??? that little 20 sack just cost you millions player,,,

Click Ur heels together 3 times and say, there's no place like the 80's ...

Or mid-2000's, right ignorant Gatr Trash?

Stop living in the past. Your 3 year window closed and it's back to living in the stench of the trailerpark for another 100 years.

The U is back!!! The U is back!! The U is back!
The first Golden crop has arrived, ACC coastal is ours. ACC ship for sure. Undefeated season and NC is our destiny. No one can stop us now.

I hope to see at least 3 to 4 more early enrollies, so we can add the other missing big star recruits Coach golden spoke about.

So, there were a bunch of positive comments, no mention of the Gators, and Curse Piggy comes back with the following:

1. A reprint of his past rants.
2. A reuse of the Dorothy theme, for daring to be hopeful and positive. I am SURE that no Gator fans are being hopeful and positive on their blog, right wicked witch?
3. A fake overreaction that was not stated by any canes fans.

Sad and desperate trolling in reaction to good news, despite the fact that Curse Piggy has predicted undefeated seasons for his Gators every year, only to back out of it after they finish their home only patsies. Good thing they moved Furman to the end of the year, if they had faced them to start the year they would have missed their bowl game.

Go check Gator Clause to find out about those Gator early enrollees, eh?

Hopefully Kirby can be our next Perryman. Welcome to the |_|

@Cane Fantasy Time Maaachine
The U in the 2K has played in just as many National Championship games as the Urban Meyer-Tim Tebow led Gators (during the best run in Gator history) in the 2000's!

So these references to the 80's as if it was the last time The U was championship caliber or relevant just displays your ignorance!
The U has won at least 1 National Title in each of the last 3 decades, and this one wont be any different!

So try clicking YOUR heels together 3 times and saying: "theirs no place like The U!"

Alright fella's welcome to the da U. Josh Witt may not have the size @ this moment. But from looking @ his highlights, man this kid is something special. I can see him getting some playing time. Then You have Kirby coming in lord have mercy on the ball carriers. Gunter I saw a little bit of his Highlights and i'm impressed I just hope he turns out to be something like "Antrell Rolle" or "Phillip Buccannon". We haven't had a shut down corner in a long time we're do for one. Gray Crow picked up some size alright. Well Gray always remember to stay focused on the field and learn how to read defenses. And most of all stay in the weight room as well with the camps. Preston Dewey samething to you as well. Ereck Flowers & Gadbois fella's we need holes openning for the Rb's like jesus parted the red sea. I want to see a back to catch "Willis Mcgahee" numbers. What Lamar Miller did was ok but it wasn't superb. But Eduardo Clements & Duke Johnson will do it. I just hope that we can land "Tracy Howard" if we can get him then we'll be alright for sure. Brandon Mcgee,Jimmy Gaines,Ray Ray Armstrong,Vaughn telemaque guys be prepared to get your spots taken because if you guys played like u did last year u don't deserve to step one foot on the field. New incoming secondary we need more picks. Work with the NFL players in the summer. Receivers get with Mark Duper & Micheal Irvin,Andre Johnson. Work with those guys when they come. Also Reggie Wayne. Rb's work with Willis Mcgahee,Clinton Portis. Secondary work with Ed Reed,Benny Blades,Antrell Rolle,Kenny Phillips. We need the U to be dominant again. We've waited so long for this please do not give us a crappy season. Raymon Buccanon u have alot of competition so if I was u I'll live in the gym & film room. I'll walk around campus with my playbook in hand reading it every chance I get.

That's a good looking group right there.

we need a dt more than anything

We need DT, we need WR we need O line, we need LB and secondary too, also need RB and who is going to be the QB. Apart for that our team is set. Good thing Golden Boy can play any position.

A fake overreaction that was not stated by any canes fans.

I take the credit for this one, the others aren't mine, but they are funny.

Got to love the haters....stay scared my friends....you should. Even with possible "sanctions" looming....AG and staff haul in what some are calling "the motherload". The haters can't stand that regardless of any "sanctions" that may be coming....incredible football players still flock to our school. Our 6th is on the horizon....it may take two or three years....but....it's coming. The U will be the first ACC team to win it all.

Joe you are right to point out that everyone is scared of the Mighty canes of the ACC. And everyone knows Golden is not only the best coach in the planet but he has also recruited the best players in the nation by far. In fact he is so good at it that we are already turning down a bunch of 5 star kids since we got no more room for them. No other school can compete with us and they are very scared. Our Great Golden has also informed the big bad NCAA to take their so called sanctions away so we don't have to worry about that anymore. It will be this year when the mighty canes of the ACC come back and rule the land with Captain Golden in charge!

FSU won 2 NCs after joining the ACC in '92 and no we are not winning anything anytime soon. We DO have sanctions coming. I can't feel good about Golden yet. Look at how we lost to Boston College at HOME!!!!!, BOSTON FRIGGIN COLLEGE who won 3 games before they played us. Golden needs to come out and win something before I praise. So far, he comes across as a snake oil salesman to me. We SHOULD NEVER have lost to BC - our last game of the season.

Welcome to UM guys! For the most part college is what you make of it. Work hard and enjoy your classes. Work hard and enjoy football. If you work hard and are have patience then the world is yours!

You can bet Gaytors and Noles realize there will be more top notch recruits selecting the U over trailer town and the capital. Golden is recruiting for 2013 also and influencing potential future stars by holding the many camps. Gaytors look at your roster and kiss goodbye to 88% of the top notch South florida players in the future. It'll take time but not as much time as it has taken the Gaytors repeatedly.

88% - what equation did you use?

Perhaps he rounded up on 87.5, which he can do because it is an ESTIMATE.

BTW, 87.5 is 5/6ths, or five of the six guys that you were getting from down here will instead choose to stay closer to home, play in a better stadium, get a better education, and have a better chance at getting into and succeeding in the NFL.

True Canes, you are completely right.

Miami should not have lost to Boston College.
But then...

Oklahoma State should not have lost to Iowa State.
Stanford should not have lost to Oregon.
Oklahoma should not have lost to Texas Tech AND Baylor.
Wisconsin should not have lost to Michigan State.
Oregon should not have lost to USC.
Virginia Tech should not have lost to Clemson, TWICE.

Upsets happen, even to good teams with good coaches while motivated by a chance at the title game. Miami's seniors were told that this worthless game would be their last, and they proceeded to mail in their last game. It happens.

Hopefully, next year, our seniors will be motivated with the chance at an Orange Bowl berth to win those games, right?

"Miami's seniors were told that this worthless game would be their last, and they proceeded to mail in their last game. It happens."

It wasn't a worthless game. It was a game to end the season on a high note, with a winning record, and set the stage for Goldne's second season. If the seniors thought it were worthless - that's on Golden and staff. Again, Boston College won THREE games. None of those upsets are equal to that loss.

You're a moron if you think the result of the BC would influence the teams first game of next season one way or the other.

I hope, "it happens" HASN'T become acceptable at The U because if it has we are truly wallowing in mediocrity.

No it's cool, let's lose to 3 win teams.

I believe the OSU loss, which cost them a shot at the BCS title, was a bigger upset than the 6-5 Canes losing to BC.

Still, I am not mimimizing your statement, it should not happen next year, just saying that fans of other teams, even LSU, have games they can point to and say they should have won that one.

Hearing that NCAA is going to come down hard on the Canes. Literally going to hurt the program.

All I am saying is that anytime that the Canes lose to a 3 win team at home is ridiculous. It shouldn't be brushed aside. It really is a black eye for the program. GOOD coaches wouldn't allow that to happen. I don't care if he wears a tie or has a 300 page book or calls warren sapp. I just want a winning program that I spend my money on to watch on Saturdays. How many top programs lose to 3 win teams?

My opinion and it's my opinion only is that Golden isn't there, yet. I am not getting my hopes up for the 2012 season.

If your support of UM is predicated on their winning then there's no reason you should be spending money on them next season, they may very well lose games.

But you're a terrible fan. FYI.

Posted by: Real Talk

By attendance the last few seasons, quite a few of us are terrible fans.

True Cane - Fact.

No, you're a bad fan because you care more about Miami than your Gators.

WELCOME TO THE []_[]!!!

Ladarius Gunter should compete right away, an incoming junior who's played two year as a cover corner - can only help.

Kirby's from the same town as Kenneth the page and Childish Gambino. Population 7,000.

Echo the comment of Cane4life and other Canes.
Welcome to the U and the UM family!
Great to have you and your families on board, beginning your journey of making Miami strong in this, the Golden era!

Your absolutely right true cane. It's really funny how your a terrible fan because you are not sipping the kool aid. We had some good players to leave early and it will be a lot to ask of these freshman coming in to take us where we need to be. Bc held the ball for almost 38 min in that game. That is terrible any way you look at it. It might not have hurt our team going into next season but it sure didn't help. We won one close game against usf and lost like 5 close ones. Exceptional coaching could have won us two or three of those games.

Welcome to The U gentlemen!
@truecane- man, kighten uo a little. Everyone has already dismissed the 2011 season! It was train wreck, Golden is now established. Eventhough he got kids last year he only had a few weeks to do it. This year's class speaks for itself and the classes will only get better. The Canes in 2012 will compete and I hope we shock the world but we have to be realistic too, give Golden 3 solid years of recruiting before you doubt. Embrace what he has done so far. Golden is a beast and has brought the label back, he is selling our school, our program to blue chip kids and let me remind you. All this with sanctions coming. Just wait until the U is in the clear....it'll be on like DONKEY KONG!!! GO CANES!! I STAND WITH THE U!!!

So, Gunner Kiel initially committed verbally to IU, then a few months later around December he d-committed and committed to LSU, when LSU was the clear favorite to win a NC, then a month or so later he de-commits and commits to Notre Dame. That is the kind of garbage coaches are faced with. Kids who won't keep their words, or verablly "commit" on the spot while crossing their fingers behind their backs. This commit stuff is junk. Pure junk. It is meaningless till they sign. Dont know why the media has fallen for this circus, and in facts perpetuates this circus. We need Eddie Goldman- he is ready to "commit"!

"Golden is now established"

Hmmmm, time will tell.

Typical cane dumb logic at work.
UM is worse than all the losing teams listed above, much worse.
BC is worse than all the winning teams listed above, much worse.
Cane dumb logic gotta love it.

See, that isn't so tough. You are skeptical. YOU HAVE GOOD REASON TO BE. But then, when Miami lost to UVA at home 48-0, and lost to USF, that was also true.

As for getting your hopes up for 2012, let's be reasonable.
They are an 8-9 win team.
They still will be behind VT in their division.
They will be over 40% freshmen.

Nobody here is saying the sixth ring is coming next year (other than the guy pretending to be a Canes fan).

Just saying we are doing better, improving in conditioning, effort, fewer penalties and turnovers, and attitude. That will translate over the next couple years to 10 or more wins per season.

Hopeful? Yes.
Delusional? No.
Skeptical? Not really.
Beating down the declining Gators, Noles, and Hokies, and getting an ACC crown in 2013? Quite possible.

Typical cane dumb logic at work.
UM is worse than all the losing teams listed above, much worse.
BC is worse than all the winning teams listed above, much worse.
Cane dumb logic gotta love it.

Aww, widdums getting ignored and needs some attention?

Show me where I said Miami was better than OSU, Stanford, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Oregon, or VT. Oh, that's right, I never SAID that.

OSU was a 28 point favorite. 10-0 teams shouldn't lose to 5-4 teams.
Miami was only a 14 point favorite. 6-5 teams lose to 3-8 teams more often than 10-0 teams lose to 5-4 teams, since 6-5 teams have weaknesses that 10-0 teams don't usually have.

Five games difference (10-0 versus 5-4) is bigger than three games (6-5 versus 3-8).

5 > 3, but we have been telling you that for YEARS and you still can't handle that math.

Cane logic works just fine, you just can't understand it because it uses facts.
Troll logic though, it uses no facts, just insults and specious attacks and twisting of words.

Now please don't interrupt the grown ups at the table, and go back to your card table. We will send over some Jello soon enough.
