Miami Hurricanes officially announce seven early enrollees

So, we've heard all along that up to eight, nine -- even more -- young pups would enroll this semester to take classes and participate in spring football practice. The Hurricanes announced seven this afternoon.

Others might be announced in the near future. In these situations, it usually comes down to paperwork involving academics.

For UM's sake, the more the better, because the school can only sign 25 newcomers on Feb. 1, known as National Signing Day. The kids who come in for this spring semester will be counted among last year's signing class.

Here's the release we just received from the University of Miami:

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The University of Miami and head football coach Al Golden announced Tuesday that seven student-athletes have enrolled early and joined the Hurricanes' football team as participants for the upcoming spring semester.

Gray Crow (Clearwater, Fla.), Preston Dewey (Austin, Texas), Ereck Flowers (Miami, Fla.), Taylor Gadbois (Dallas, Ga.), Ladarius Gunter (Montgomery, Ala.), Raphael Kirby (Stone Mountain, Ga.), and Josh Witt (Weston, Fla.) have all begun classes for the spring semester, which commenced today, Jan. 17.

The early enrollee positional breakdown is as follows: two quarterbacks (Crow, Dewey), two offensive linemen (Flowers, Gadbois), two linebackers (Kirby, Witt), and one defensive back (Gunter).

Crow hails from nearby Clearwater, where he graduated early from Countryside High School. He stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs a solid 230 pounds. He was ranked a three-star prospect, and threw for more than 1,600 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior.

Dewey enters the university as a highly-recruited prospect at the quarterback position. He was a four-star prospect and No. 133 overall regardless of position in ESPN's Top-150. Though he lost the bulk of his senior year to a wrist injury, he shined at the Elite 11 Camp hosted by TCU.

Flowers joins the Hurricanes from nearby Miami Norland High School, where he helped lead the Vikings to a 15-0 season and a 2012 Class 5A State Championship title. Flowers earned a four-star ranking at offensive tackle from both Rivals and Scout, and earned a No. 200 overall ranking regardless of position from Rivals.

Gadbois arrives at Miami after a half-season spent with Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Va. The Georgia-native stands at an impressive 6 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 300 pounds. He was ranked a three-star prospect by both Rivals and Scout.

Gunter begins his career as a junior after two seasons spent at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas. Originally hailing from Montgomery, Ala., Gunter had 24 tackles through seven games played at Fort Scott this past season. He had three tackles for loss, forced two fumbles and returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown.

Kirby enrolls as one of the most decorated players in Head Coach Al Golden's 2012 recruiting class. The Stone Mountain, Ga. native transferred to powerhouse Stephenson High School for his senior season, where he finished with 121 tackles, 18.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss. He was the fourth-ranked outside linebacker according to Rivals and earned an overall ranking of No. 89 regardless of position.

Witt makes the short trip to Coral Gables from his native Weston, Fla. where he starred at Cypress Bay High School. After playing quarterback through his sophomore season, Witt made the switch to linebacker and finished his junior season with more than 100 tackles. He earned First-Team All-Broward County honors from the BCAA after a 100-plus-tackle, 14-sack senior season with the Lightning.

The spring schedule officially begins on March 3, when Coach Golden and staff host their first practice of 2012.

 Stay tuned.

Can U beat a Johnson winning the game for the Lady Canes ?

scrappy scrap-ons

this blog is now closed

dumlogic- sit down with your pseudo analysis and pseudologic. UF beat 1 team with a winning record: Furman.

Bitter and jealous p-unk that you are.

Furman. That says it all.

Canentally you said "we had a crappy year. You had a crappier year."

Fact is we had a better year by several measures:
1- our record was better
2- we played and won a January bowl game
3- we won our last game played
4- we did not lose to any inferior or underdog teams
5- we played much, much better competition
Now we did have a crappy year by Gator standards
You had the same type of season you are used to for the past 8 years

5>3>2, but < none in a decade,
You lost to BC and Maryland
You play in the ACC and can't compete
You cheated & bribed recruits and players for over 8 years and still could not buy a winner
Analyze that
My posts are far form bitter and jealous, they are articulate and amusing,

The State of Florida is looking to establish an online university. This state continues to cut the value of a public education.

Gatr Trash, the flushing sound you hear is no longer just the sound of dinner in the trailerpark, it is also the value of your diploma.

White Trash in the House
Repeating your lies doesn't make them true, it just makes them old lies, fool.

Dumblogic I see you used your dumblogic on the your first three facts. Come on Dumb. Our record is better. Duh you played more games. You won a bowl game. Who is to say we would not have won our bowl game if we had not turned it down. Winning the last game. Not the first time that the leaders on our team did not show up when there was nothing to play for. Hopefully that stuff is over....Would you not agree that the best way to compare two teams is to look at their common opponents? Simple question.

Canentally

Compare what? We both beat the same team and we both lost to the same team. It ends there. You got to get over the moral victories, the close losses the almost won. All those are losses.

So all my points are valid.

You say "Not the first time that the leaders on our team did not show up when there was nothing to play for." Well that is a big part of your problem, some leaders you have. Isn't Golden in charge? The Golden One who cannot do wrong, or was he distracted negotiating that extension for being mediocre?

You say "Who is to say we would not have won our bowl game if we had not turned it down.

The past 5 years say so, and the fact above about not showing up the last game of the year.
The fact that Joke-ory plays his worst at the end of the season, so does the defense. Same poor results, different coach.
Sorry silly cane, you don't have an argument

Whiners all of U!!! Grow the F up already!!

This is the season where Golden's recruitment and coaching shall be judged. Last season was a mulligan due to dealing with candy randy's guys who duck out the back door...See NWCrew Exodus for further details...

This is a team that is being put together with actual hungry players, not just lil'kids wanting to wear a jersey and run through the smoke. These are kids that can hit, run "correct" routes, and are ball hawks. I can't wait to see these guys April 14th at Joe Robbie. The secondary and Dline are my only true concerns but I think the bugs will be worked out. I can't say that for McGee but hopefully now that he is committed to the football team more than the track team he can pull his head out of is @#$ and play CB for once in his life. He's the fastest guy on the team (4.27-40) yet he can't turn his hips fast enough to keep up with anyone that puts a move on him. I personally think that he should have been converted into a WR or return man and nothing more. Now with Ladarius Gunter (JUCO DB) in the picture with 2 years of experience as a true "cover corner" can show the rest of the DB's what it's like to actually play the position at a higher level. I have high hopes for Finnie, Crawford, Armbrister, Bush... I think these guys will put on a nice show for us all.

I have a good feeling that Darius Smith will anchor the Dline nicely and with Chickillo at the DE spot with whoever else shows up to take the starting positions will do a decent job. I'm not concerned with our LB's. With Perryman running around Ramon Buchanan back from rehab, Eddie Johnson, Kelvin Cain, and James Gaines we're looking pretty good. Perryman will leave his mark on the U, for the rest, they need to show us something. Cain to me has plenty of promise. Plus I can't wait to see what Raphael Kirby will do. This kid transferred from his old high school to a powerhouse football high school and dominated there.

Ray Ray and Tele better shape up or will sit down for the entire season. Golden doesn't give 2 sh$%s if someone is a senior or not. The best will play, period.

2012/2013 will be the seasons where Golden & Co will be judged thoroughly. All questions will be answered. Honestly, I see a couple more guys to be asked to leave for the pros to make room for others who are willing to work instead of looking for a handout.

P.S.

SOMEBODY FIRE THE HOBBIT ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO CANES ALL DAY EVERYDAY!!!

BATTLE OF FLORIDA THIS SATURDAY BOCA RATON FAU STADIUM!!!!!

Canetillidie: I am as well. Always will be. And I agree with your post. 100%

This blog is for cane fans. Not whiney, soft, pi55ant gator fans that state the obvious (our team has been better than your team since 2006, our team has won more national ch in the last 4 years than your team, your team sks, our team doesnt. You live in the pat. We don't, but we still like Tim Tebow. Our school is better than yours. Let's make fun of Bryan Pata). You know all that loser jazz.

I agree Golden will show what he is truly made of next year and 2013. Last year was a wash. having Jacorry Harris as his number 1 QB is essentially handcuffing a coach. Golden had no choice but to praise him publically before the start of the season. What was he to do? Say that he can't read defenses, check down, or throw with any zip? But the true test is getting the team to play hard all 4 quarters, all season long. Like the bOise states of this world. Like bama. That requires a change in attitude. A change in the type of kid thatthey recruit. That change is happening.

Records indicate that Miami has beaten Florida 6 of the last 7 times they have played. That says it all!

CANETILLIDIE....DH

Preachin' to the choir my dude. As I analyzed the tape of our D-Line I see a line that should dominate the ACC next year. Duke won't know what them! We are going to CRUSH Bethune Cookman

corpus - Boise are perpetrators, watch what happens when they have to play two real games in a row.

Canetillidie - I watched some highlights of Gunter, he's obviously a natural at the position (smooth looking, probably has pleasing 'hips' to Golden) but he sure didn't look like he was a difference maker in junior college.

Most of his highlights were of tackles after the receiver caught the ball, and none of them were particularly big hits. Didn't see any interceptions in a five minute video.

He seems like a Mike Williams type player, he'll contribute but I doubt he's going to be a leader in the secondary, could be wrong.

I have much higher hopes for Finnie and Crawford than I do Gunter at this point, we'll find out a lot by how Golden uses those guys in the spring game.

Either way we're in MUCH better shape than last year, and I really hope that Ray Ray and Telemaque step up to solidify that secondary like they should have last year.

Canetillidie. Well done. Really good when someone that really knows the stuff. Especially fire SHALALALALALA now.

Nice try jerk, how can you know that Gunter won't be a leader and a playmaker? What proof do you have? Can you see into the futre? Let me guess, you're just kidding about that too?

I apologize to my fellow Cane fans for trying to have a actual conversation with the gator trolls on here. I had hoped that by showing that they were no better than us this last season with a actual comparison of two games we have in common they would have calmed down some. My mistake.
The recruiting this year is shaping up nice. I do not get excited about the class until they sign on the dotted line on signing day. Speaking of signing day. Is anyone going to The Signing Day Party the U is putting on at the BankUnited Center. Hurricane Club members get in free. Fans pay 1$. Everyone pays for food and drink. Golden and staff will introduce the signing class with a highlight reel. For 5$ you can then go to the mens BB game against Maryland. Sounds like a great night. Wish I could make it.

Wrap Ur mental midget minds around this lil * to your 48-40 overall Football record the last 7 Season at Duh Peeeee-Ewwwwwe ...

Minus Wins against Doormat but tough Venue Duke 7 Wins ... UCF 3 Wins ... FAMU 3 Wins ... USF 2 Wins (should be 3 but U lost @ Home?) ... Marshall 1 ... FIU 1 ... Bethune 1 ... Nevada 1 and an on probation Houston 1 ... ( I'll leave out sorry Wake and Virginia since U barely split with them) ... Can U begin to Calculate wat Duh U been cooking the last 7 Seasons since 2005 ? Well Can U ?

Jj you r posts are as bad as jj's hair.

sup guys how's everyone's sunday??

Eudo...Give Gunter a chance. None of us have seen what he can do with this coaching staff. But in his highlight tapes, it's very obvious that he's much better than the rest of our DB's from last season. Honestly I don't know what you are trying to refer to the "hips" remark but I'll just assume that you're bringing back up the post where I mentioned that Brandon McGhee has slow hips and can't turn himself quick enough to mark man on man to anyone. Gunter has been able to stay in stride with guys who clocked faster than him in the 40. Y do you ask??? Because he has quicker reflexes and yes faster turning hips.

Marty McFaggot......Since this is a new handle from a new person or a personality switching idiot I'll just be nice. The garbage and rats that were once on this team are now gone. REAL..HUNGRY..ATHLETES.. are here now. Chickillo will be the true leader IMO of the Defense. Maybe you didn't notice but he started as a true freshman for us last season and will continue to dominate at his position. If our older DT's can stay healthy, they will dominate and rip open holes for Perryman, Cain, E.Johnson, Gaines, and Kirby.

Ltcdolphin...gracias amigo.

Corpus...Thanks as well papo.

Don't know if anyone else saw but the Battle of Florida game was an absolute blow out of death. I honestly felt bad for Howard Schnellenberger coaching the South side with Wes Carroll(FIU) at QB and some other hacks after he was taken out of the game. Honestly it was one of the most atrocious games that I had ever seen in my life. Love to see that Lee Chambers continued to show his true colors by giving up big plays left and right. Ojomo was picking fights on special teams so that at least brought me some entertainment. Jojo Nicolaus continued as well to show that safety isn't his spot either. Gave up 2 TD's that went right passed him. I did see that the North played exceptional and Mike Williams playing his DB spot for the North provided good coverage and 2 good hits too. OOOhHhhhh that reminds me...Lee Chambers got RRROOOOCCCKKKEEEDDD on punt coverage. I'm amazed his head didn't pop off..Other than that, FAU has a decent 30,000(+/-) seat stadium. Even the liquor at the bar was decent. The only negative I had with the bar is that they didn't supply any Bicardi 151..........DAMN U ALL TO HELL!!!!!

OH YA, FIRE THE HOBBIT!!!!!

FIRE THE HOBBIT!!!

SCHNELLENBERGER FOR SCHOOL PRESIDENT/AD!!!!

Records indicate that Miami has not won a bowl game 6 of the last 7 times they have played. That says it all!

scUM "fans" are slow to realize their world of college football ended in 2004

the Battle of Florida game was an absolute blow out of death. The South got blown out. It featured several cane players on D.......No Wonder!!!!!

Welcome to the 'U' guys and we are proud to have you on board with us..

Buckle up for a great ride and the 'U' legacy will continue..

I look at what Canetrash has written and I wonder how many MAJOR players in the NFl and players whose names were mentioned in the palyoff games are Hurricanes that makes us proud as 'Canes fans to support our team..

Bringing up irrelevant bowl games and trash talking our team just shows that someone (YES YOU CANETRASH) is scared to death of what Coach Golden has done to rebuild.

I suggest Canetrash that you grabage is waiting, so go ahead and place it in the trailer, and become familiar with your worry beads you are going to need them.

Go 'Canes.
