Negative recruiting against Canes was hurdle that led all the way up to Signing Day

CORAL GABLES -- The first thing Al Golden did after putting the finishing touches on UM's 2012 signing class Wednesday afternoon was thank everyone who helped him put it together.

Jawand BlueEveryone got a shout out: UM President Donna Shalala; school professors; the wives of his assistant coaches who never saw their husbands; the fans and boosters who lent their private planes to allow Golden and his assistants to fly all over the country; the current players who hosted recruits; the recruits who became early enrollees and the longtime commitments who recruited the recruits on the fence.

Nope, this job wasn't easy. The way UM arrived Wednesday to a Top 10 nationally class of 33 recruits (second most in the nation behind Troy St. and Tempe who each brought in 35) was grueling process, a job only made tougher by looming NCAA sanctions, a 6-6 season and a whole lot of negative recruiting.

"This was the most grueling six or seven weeks in my career in 17 years in the business," said Golden. "I can't remember any time when we were at Temple and we took over that we were facing anything harder than this.

"It was an incredible effort in light of all the things we encountered, all the obstacles in the last couple months. I won't sit here and tell you we didn't get absolutely crushed by opponents [with negative recruiting]. They saw a soft spot and they took it, went after it."

> The Hurricanes dealt with another dose of negative recruiting Wednesday after West Boca Raton linebacker JaWand Blue switched out of his commitment to Virginia Tech and picked Miami.

When Blue called Virginia Tech assistant coach Charley Wiles by phone, Palm Beach Post writer Matt Porter was there with Blue and overheard their conversation. According to Porter, Wiles tried to sway Blue by touting his program’s success in the ACC and cleanliness – a shot at Miami following the Nevin Shapiro scandal.

Without naming Virginia Tech directly, Golden fired back close to the end of his 40 minute press conference Wednesday: "At times [negative recruiting] can enter in the realm of vicious. I heard that happened today. You give them enough rope, they hang themselves. Let them say all those nasty things. At the end of the day when you're in the pressure cooker, how you react in front of recruits and their parents says a lot about you and the program. You lose kids, we wish them good luck."

Golden's fight is far from over. Until the NCAA hands down its punishment, UM will continue to get pelted. The good news for the Canes? None of it really appeared to affect the 2012 class Golden was able to put together.

Miramar All-American cornerback Tracy Howard said the NCAA investigation really didn't play a factor -- playing time did. Blue told 760 ESPN in West Palm Beach all he was thinking about was staying home and that he trusts the Canes aren't in big trouble. Same with St. Thomas Aquinas defensive end Jelani Hamilton.

> Golden said the reason UM's class grew to be so large wasn't because of fear of impending NCAA sanctions but rather the departure of key underclassmen. So how many scholarships are available should a player come along? According to Golden, none.

> Golden said of the class: " I think it personifies and embodies what we're looking for. Lot of guys that want to be Miami Hurricanes. Lot of guys that understand what it means to be part of the tradition, not only how they play, but conduct themselves off the field, the passion they exhibit, the toughness. [They come from] a lot of championship programs, a lot of captains. A lot of tough guys. I'm probably a little surprised we're ranked as high as far as all the rankings and that stuff goes. Primarily I'm surprised because so many of them came from [UM camps]. A lot of the guys that came from the camp are under the radar. We've never been catalog shoppers."

> Golden said he looks for in players at his camps is character. "Our guys, if they're under the radar guys, we really don't care," Golden said. "They came to the camp - Jake O'Donnell and Dwayne Hoilett come to mind. I didn't care if either one of them had any offers. What we saw at camp with their speed, the tenacity they exhibited. Those are guys we need to get in the program. Herb Waters is another guy who came to camp and did a good job. We're not worried about the stars. We're grateful we have the recognition that goes along with having a highly ranked class."

> So when did Golden begin to believe UM really had a shot at luring Tracy Howard? After his in-home visit two weeks ago.

"The last couple weeks we started to build some momentum there and I just felt he was listening more. Then we had an opportunity when we went into the home, I think I left out of there and I felt good. I sensed something different. I think the more we talked to Tracy about football, academics, commitment to core values, I think the more his family understood. I think Shaiy and Tracy Sr., they were looking for something to carry on with the young man."

> On late addition Dequan Ivery, a 6-1, 300-pound defensive tackle from Lake City Columbia, Golden said: "A lot of people chase stars down the stretch. I kept challenging the staff to find me another nose guard in this class or next class. He's on the strength team, over a 400 pound bencher already, has leverage, can bend. He wanted to be a Hurricane."

> Golden likes all four players UM got from Palm Beach County: "[Receiver] Angelo [Jean-Louis] had a great week at Under Armour. All the coaches said `Who is this kid?' He did a great job up there. Gabe Terry is one of those guys, finished runner up in wrestling in his weight class, has a 3.6 (GPA) and the tape that he had. A beautiful young man, had a chance to visit with him during the season. He'll play [strongside linebacker] for us. Jawand [Blue] is a late addition for us today not because of his talent but because of scholarships that were promised before we got to him. He communicated with us down the stretch. We're grateful that he decided to join us. He'll help us at linebacker. [Receiver] Robert Lockhart I think is going to be a really good player. He'll be with us in May. He brings us length. That's a really good group in an area we haven't done great in. "

> Westminster Christian quarterback David Thompson has the green light to play baseball, Golden said. " He's going to help both programs out, is a tremendous young man. We'll see which way it goes. Coach [Jim] Morris and I have talked about how we'll manage it; we're both on the same page there. The wildcard is pro baseball, the draft. We'll see where that goes. [Quarterbacks] Preston [Dewey] and Gray [Crow] are doing well. Those guys are doing a great job for us and we're really excited about them competing. I think we've improved that position."

> Golden said cornerback Brandon McGee isn't running track this year and is instead focused on football by his choice.. walk on linebacker Nantambu Fentress apparently has interest in playing baseball... Golden confirmed Dallas Crawford has been switched to running back. "Dallas was a wildcat quarterback [in high school]. We ran him on scout team, will take a look at him [at running back] in the spring. We can always move him back to DB."

Good job coach G.. This is a Butch Davis type class.. Cant wait for spring practice..

Get'em trained up GOLDEN AL

"Dont care about stars" Refreshing. Looking for a certain kind of player. Tough Leaders, something this program has been lacking. Good luck to all these kids that joined the U family.

A lot of times in the past, we lost games to teams with players who had character, and won against teams with star players. I can see both, star power and character in Golden's recruits.

As for negative recruiting, a word of warning to those that played that card: You never know what deck of cards you'll be holding in the future, deal with caution.

example of the star system and its problem is Denzel Perryman. He wasn't highly touted but he really preformed for a freshman at linebacker.

That VA Tech coach is a disgrace. I'm sure some of these coaches say things like that all the time, but the player had the courtesy to call him and he still reacted like an animal. I love Golden's comments on the situation. It seems like he got a great group if young men in this class. Go Canes!

Ur 24 hour fake Christmas is over... Back to reality... Multiple skill talent bolted and gutted any type of play making ability that U had to move forward instead of stepping backwards. U replaced them with exactly 4 Freshman kids (a RB-WR-DB-FS) and the rest are all flips of the coin. U have ZERO experienced depth and U'll be crowing, like in 2008-2010, how Ur a "Young" team for the next 3 years as Ur perpetual excuse, again. Sanctions will cripple U and Ur Golden Boy will say buh bye after yet another 6-6 2013 campaign...

So U dolts continue to spout off in Ur delUded Cane patented ways about an overall average Class, although strong in numbers is UCF-S.Fla.- and FIU'ish in overall bulked talent. It's understandable since this is how U've become conditioned over the last 10 years continuing to except it as Ur standard.

Bottom line. Ur still Duh same U U've been since 2003 and will continue to be so through 2016 with this non program backboned 2012 class and the next 3 years of 15 average kids a year schollies coming in behind it to barely keep Ur .500% 50/50 ways cycle alive...

It's what U are... A NON-Top-20 program. So enjoy Ur latest and last 24 hour Top-10 achievement for many years to come. Albeit a mirage...

*** Five-star commits: 0 -- Four-star: 11 -- Three-star: 16 -- Others: 6 ***

That's twenty-two...22...TWENY-TWO kids that are either 3 star reaches that NO-NONE-ZERO TOP-10 School even offered and another 6 UNRANKED D-2 blocking dummies and 4 year scout teamers...

U Cane fans enjoy Golden's magic tricks, slight of hand and silver tongue like the little no nothing face painting football fanatics that U are... All 15k of U.

*** One Step Forward... Two Steps Back...Ur Forever Young. ***

now U enjoy Ur Annual Hoops NIT run... Baseball on the road Regional beatdown and Spring game where U might Win one...

"butch davis type class"??...there will NEVER be a class like that EVER in college football...

BOY or should I say OY...that's a LOT of HATE so early in the morning Fiddy! Obviously, U must be from one of the "BIG" schools in the state. U know...the ones with all the high expectations year after year and under performance during the season.

That is a VERY destructive force U r living with! U really need some HELP! Please do Urself and Ur family a favor and seek some help B4 U HURT Urself!

Btw, the U isn't going to GO away...Ur nightmare is just going 2 GET BIGGER!

Minutes after announcing Wednesday that he’d sign with the Miami Hurricanes, Miramar cornerback Tracy Howard conceded he “never really gave [the ‘Canes] a chance” before making his official visit there this past weekend.

“I told myself, ‘Man, I don’t want to go to Miami.’ When the coaches called me, I was like, ‘Man, I don’t want to talk to them.’ I didn’t want to go to Miami,’ Howard told reporters at his signing ceremony.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the first thought is always the best and most truthful thought young man ... And it's exactly what this kid will be thinking when all the hoopla wears off in a week when he realizes that he became emotionally compromised with all those dUmb U fans tugging at him... sure he'll play right away unlike at Florida, but his delusions that he wants to win and why not do it at home for his hometown team will become his worse nitemare after 3 straight 6-6 non ACC 'Ship Seasons...

"What the hell did I do? I married who?"

This Kardashian Diva is ALL Urs ... And his above quotes tell U exactly what he really thinks about U, but will now deny.

why is it that FSU and UF fans have trouble with the English language? What kind of college graduates are these characters? College rejects, most likely. I am curious as to what the average salary is for FSU and UF graduates after 10 years, assuming they even can get jobs!

Hey Fiddy, blow me.

Fiddy - the last four years of five star wonders got you 6-6 with a signature win against Furman.

Knowing that, you come on here to make yourself feel better about not landing a single one of your targetted recruits yesterday and losing Tracy Howard to boot.

Talking trash about our football and baseball programs when you know 5>3 and 4>0, is kind of stupid, don't you think?

When you watched Tracy pick the "U' yesterday and pet up the "U", that really stung, didn't it?

Correction: put up the "U"

*** STAR dUd IS ALL URS!!! *** STAR dUd IS ALL URS!!!

Wow! if Golden can do as well as he did with the NCAA anvil about ready to fall, i can't wait to see what he can do with a clean slate.

Fiddy is Soldy is Curse. You know; the blog Pig.

He luvs these young kids in the way he luvs KAK. Just listen to his nonsense.

But he usually only posts after midnight because of his Costco security guard gig

He is a loser. "Blah blah blah Cane Cluks...blah blah""."

All the same garbage. What a loser you are, Pig.

Poor Fiddy, trying to say Howard is a three star that regrets his decision.

Fat Drunk and Stupid is no way to go through life son....

That is the funniest response I've seen in a while. CANETILLIDIE is the most ignorant blindly homer cane fanatic that there is. This guy is completely of his rocker. Pretty obvious that he lives in a very small bubble. I wonder how jakked he is when sitting in the empty upper deck trying to avoid getting in a fight and watching some lowly chump team beat the stuffing out of his beloved canes?

great class , great speech -this guy is GOLDEN now the coaching needs to take this group to the next level - and quickly , Good Luck to the new Canes

Negative recruiting? HUH??? I do believe that coaches simply TOLD THE TRUTH! Recruiting battles have been fierce since the beginning and that will never change. EVERY PROGRAM gets trashed by the competition. For UM to cry about this shows an abundance of insecurity. Seriously.

Or should everyone expect programs to say flattering things about other programs???? PLEASE! Just because the competition makes it clear that the U is about to get nailed by the NCAA, that DOES NOT constitute "negative recruiting." It's called DUH TRUTH. Idiots.

- Golden years
- The Golden age
- The Golden....whatever

It is highly advisable that fans stop using these silly catch phrases. Long term, they will be detrimental to the program's reputation.

*** U ... Fiddy/Fiddy U, talk is really cheap. That's why they actually play the games on the field. You can talk about all the negatives about a recruiting class, how badly they'll perform because of the class's start rate. But you know they still play the games on the field, and on the field, and on the field both teams were 50%. even with all your top 5 recruiting classes. So just shut up until the games are played on the field.....you sound stupid.

@Tyoical Cane Dope

First lets correct your spelling...it's typical not tyoical..

Second.. You refer to DeQuan Ivery as an overweight Marcus Forston clone. That's pretty original, but take this into consideration gaytard trailer trash...Marcus Forston was an overrated fat douche who did nothing for us due to the fact that he was never "developed" much like the rest of the recruiting class that candy randy brought in during his time at The U. Now we have a "REAL" coach who knows how to take talent and develop it. The players that are being brought in are not divas at all, but hard working blue collar athletes who want to prove something. Not highschool divas who believe that once they signed with The U that they were done and nothing else was needed and a crystal football would just be handed to them. Reference 2008 NWCrew class that made a huge exodus off the team once they realized that they had to work for their jobs once Golden and Co got there. Those punks didn't have the work ethic to be on a college football team. Jacory Harris should have gone to FAMU plain and simple. If Marcus Forston stayed in the gym and stuck to his nutrition plan then he would have been in better shape reducing all of his injuries that kept him off of the field for the majority of his time at The U.

Before you type something down, at least think it over before you do so because otherwise you make yourself sound like a douche. Wait you are a douche. Problem solved now go kill yourself.

talk is really cheap

That's all U do, done and will continUe to do the next 6 years...

You actually thought that "tyoical cane dope" was funny with his remark? What do you do when you actually read or hear a really comedian, crap yourself? That guy is trailer trash but then again if you found his remarks to be funny then you must live in the double wide next door to him and share the same internet.

1. Hell ya I'm a Cane Homer and So F'ing What???

2. I've stood by my team since I was a kid and never turned my back on them, even during the Pell Grant suspension years.

3. I'll always be a Canes Fan Till I Die, so what you are going do about it? Are you going to hitch up your double wide to your dying ford pickup and pray that you can get out of the swamp, and make it down to Dade County and stop me?

4. I'd tell you to go and F your sister but you probably just did that before you read this and are so stupid that you'll go and do it after being told.

Ah trash comes from many different places and has many different smells. Some come from trailerhassee and the rest come from trailerville. Either way you guys still suck and we still own you guys. Both of your national titles "combined" equal ours. We own the series on both schools and ever other school in the state.

Guess what, we're on our way again. Thanks to Golden & Co.

GO CANES !!!!!!

We are fortunate to have Coach Golden leading the U. He is the real deal. He is looking for young men of character. That type of kid will learn, play hard and wear the U with pride. He will be coachable and about TEAM. It is a really strong recruiting class.

Now, on to the roller coaster, UM will get some kind of slap by the NCAA. They may want to make an example of the U. They make take it easy. We may all feel relieved, or bummed once again. Get ready and let's put it behind us.

But we have got the right guy leading the program. It will begin to translate to the field. I do believe the U will rise to prominence, and field some hard-nosed, all out for 60 minutes teams. Kids of character, talent and good coaching will make that happen. It will end the long drought of mediocrity...

Fiddy and Silly U Dopes are all acting Delusional..

Ahh the taste of sour grapes dripping off the chin as the realization that Coach G really dumped it on your heads and you CAN'T taste it..but it is SOUR anyway.

You both knew that you had Tracy and Coach G dazzled and put a move on that left Moosechump reaching for air..the 'U' won Gayturds none.
What a picture..

Please read dbc..again and that expalins it all. Thanks dbc you said it.

Congratulations on the Class Coach G and all your Coaches and supporters that made this Class one of the top 10. We are very proud of your hard work and utilization of that immense talent in the state of Florida...Great job.
Go 'Canes.

"the U is about to get nailed by the NCAA."

And you know this is true, Pig? How do you know this? Are you on the infractions committee?

Typical Gatr Trash. They have nothing to feel proud about for their 6-6 underachieving trainwreck so they have to bash the Canes.

Bravo, Trailer Maggot. BTW, wasn't Urbie's last class a top 5 too? That got him 6-6 rieeeeeggggght?

And we know Urbie is light years ahead of Muscrap as a coach. So Muscrap will be at best 6-6. Then all you Gomers will go shoot up your double-wides because there is nothing else to do in the Trailerpark.

I can see that the Alachua County Detention Center computer room was opened a few extra hours so it's Gator inmates could post their ridiculous posts and rants and raves about the U's recruiting class. Besides being unable to to use the English language correctly, numerous spelling errors and showing their ignorance by opening their trailertrash mouths they really displayed how clueless they are. They are proof positive that ignorance is BLISS!

It is so unfair that the NCAA can drag out these investigations over years - they're going to hand down a penalty that will NOT take into account the hardship UM has faced living under this cloud for so long.

We know we're getting scholarships taken away, I'm sure Golden would even volunteer another year of a bowl ban or maybe even two just to get this thing over with so we can move on.

There will always be haters. Lets be honest, all fans. All of our instutitions stunk it up last season! Now remember you excitement for whoever last NSD. Now did any of those wow you saturday after saturday? Like Bobby Bowden said years past, "there're all superstars till the hitting starts". Be happy the kids that did choose your school and those well that didn't. In the end nothing said here will affect the development and play of these young men on the field. We've all seen Big 3 flame out the last "few" years. Why do you think Urban left? He was winning the recruting acolades, but losing on the field and didn't see things getting any better. Urban QUIT on his so called prized recruits and UF.

16 *** and 6 */** Unranked kids for a total of basically 22 nobodys will sink Ur lack of talent depth for years to come. That’s an ENTIRE CLASS of below average non elite talent that will drown Ur program for years and years. Adding to that U’ll have 15 schollies a year the next 3 years while adding another 30-35 of the same */**/*** non-difference makers from 2013-2015. And that will be Ur deathblow as far as National Rankings, relevance and ACC contention through 2016 … U’ll counter with the *** Ed Reed and Co. protocol. It’s not the same anymore. Those kids don’t fall through the cracks anymore and U should know it. Besides there’s 1 *** like that for every 10 that aren’t and U know it…. Well U should.

Amazing how U Canes can just brush that aside as a mirage. But U’ve been doing it for nearly 10 years now, so it’s something Ur use to doing as an involuntary reflex .

Kind of like the poster above that states, “Golden will have Duh U competing for National Championships in no time.” Really ? I’d seriously ask U if U really believe that to be just not true, but even a remote possibility. But I know Ur answer, U’ll just regurgitate 5>3, 6-6 , Tebow’s gone … blah blah blah.

U guys are screwed long term the next 5 years. The intelligent Canes hope for the best but know it. The ones that don’t are so pathetically starved for the long gone days of beyond yesteryear, that their deluded washed brains won’t allow themselves to admit it.

So congrats on what U think is such a stellar “Top to Bottom” Recruiting class that is filled with 22 kids that would make up an entire Class for the likes of UCF, S.Fla., Wake, Perdue, W.Michigan, Pitt, Iowa State and all 40-80 average programs… Congrats, U got 8-10 good kids and 4-5 that everyone wanted. Congrats, but they will not be able to sustain being the nucleus of a Top 10-15 team over the years with only the 45 schollies left to hand out the next 3 years. U may not know it, want to admit it, but that’s the truth. It cannot be done. No matter what Coach Golden does and how much U praise him. He knows it. U are lucky in one respect. Though U’ll have an overall roster of average overall talent the next 4 years. They will be well Coached and competitive to a point in the ACC. But certainly not like the ELITE 2 deep rosters of the BAMA and LSU’s and Top 5-10 programs of the College football landscape. And defiantly never like the best College football team I ever witness in person… The University of Miami 2001 Football Team.

hey, when the record is done playing ... lift the needle, return it to the beginning and play it again.

1. Hell ya I'm a Cane Homer.

lemme guess ... During Fan days, the Spring game and after games, U actually get in line and go around like a herd of sheep with 5-15 yr. old kids asking for 19-22 yr. old College Football players autographs?

Don't answer... I already know.

2. I've stood by my team and NEVER turned my back on them ever...

Que ? U just got done throwing Fortson, J-55 and the NortWestern 7 Under Ur Yellow Cane short bUs... And what about Cane foe life Candy Randy ?

Lemme guess... selective memory right?

And guess what? We are on our way again thanks to Golden & Co.

Gee, where have I heard that before ?

"I can see that the Alachua County Detention Center computer room was opened a few extra hours so it's Gator inmates could post their ridiculous posts and rants and raves about the U's recruiting class"

I laughed pretty hard at that one. Nice work, Anonymous Cane.

I'm excited about the class Golden signed, and our future.

Wow. Look at that post by Solid Soldy.

What kind of unemployed loser has time to type all of that garbage much less research it.

This dude is straight loser.

Again, don't address me Pig unless I command you.

Go back to your Kak dreams.

This used to be a pretty good place to talk "U" football and now its become my dad can beat up your dad nonsense. Just a shame. But on a lighter note, Golden pulling in a top 10 class with everything that's going on at the "U" is amazing. Go Canes!

Hey Soldy - you really think a UM fan would call UM 'Duh U'? Takes one to know one, you should recognize other trolls.

Fair point on throwing the northwestern kids under the bus though, those kids were UM players, they don't deserve the hate from their own 'fanbase'.

To the guy with a million handles....

Just because I point out a player, a coach or a group of players doesn't mean that I turn my back on my team. That's the difference. I love my Canes thru and thru. Some people just can't understand that mostly because they just want to see such a historic program go down the toilet. After this recruiting process proves otherwise. We brought in a great class with some elite players and even stole a few players from opposing teams. But your ignorance will never allow you to see that. You're far to blinded by your hatred for The U. Personally I wish that Marcus Forston would have stayed another year so that he can prove to everyone that he wasn't a bust. He actually got invited to the NFL combine which shocked alot of people because he doesn't have any numbers to base an invitation off of. If Tommy Streeter had stayed another year would have easily have meant several more millions of dollars coming his way. Same goes to Lamar Miller. Jacory Harris was thrown under the bus by every Cane loving fan in existence, that's a fact. So I guess the rest of CaneNation aren't Canes fans simply because they didn't like their QB, right? Especially with a better one sitting on the bench with ten times the arm that would have never under thrown a pass to any receiver. How many TD's were blown simply because our WR's had to slow down for the ball allowing every DB in the league to catch up and defend the play??? Get back to me with that one you f'ing idiot.

Talk all the garbage you want troller, you're simply jealous that I'm as passionate of a fan as I am and that Miami is getting back on track with real hungry players and real hard working dedicated coaches. The kind of coaches that never say that duke is a hard place to play at.. ref: candy randy.

Before we had divas and now we have blue collar players that want to earn their job. That gives evidence to the mass exodus of NWCrew players that headed off to the NFL even before telling their coach. Go back to the Miami Herald for that information that was quoted from Coach Golden.

Come up with real facts before you speak. I know that copying and pasting is very easy but it's even easier to say something when you actually have intelligence and use it. Redneck garbage.

Sex with family members is not right. You should stop but you probably won't.

I'll just say this - Tracy Howard is no different from those northwestern boys. Extremely hyped, he's going to want to play right away based on talent alone, and he's almost certainly going to leave after his junior year for the NFL.

I don't hold any of that against him, I'm thrilled he signed with UM. But I'm curious to see how Golden treats him - it's easy to play the kids who put out the most effort in practice when someone else recruited them and promised them the world. Tracy Howard single handedly turned Golden's class into a noteworthy event for UM, he's going to expect immediate playing time.

But either way Tracy Howard is going to have something those northwestern boys never did - a coach who's interested in cultivating their talent and physical abilities.

how is the VT coach a disgrace?? because he's upset a kid he's been recruiting, and that has been committed for several months.. a kid that was on an official visit the prior weekend, and reaffirmed that commitment.. decides to back out the day he's supposed to sign? who wouldn't be upset? VT showed him interest all along.. the school in his backyard didnt until their other option bailed on them. The real idiot in all of this is the boca raton hs coach.. talk about hanging your student/athlete out to dry. what a joke. Also.. Wiles said nothing inaccurate during the entire conversation. The U has a history of issues with the NCAA and is potentially going to face sanctions in the near future.

No disgrace in being upset but Va Tech should be completely humiliated that a coach representing their university would be so unprofessional as to throw a temper tantrum like a little 8 year old when a kid decides not to go to his program.

I would love to know what V Tech actually said that was negative recruiting. Because saying your school has success in your conference and is clean are actually two very good reasons to go to a program. When Golden is selling the "tradition" of Miami to prospective recruits does that mean he is negatively recruiting towards schools such as South Florida because they lack the tradition?

there are always two sides to the story. My guess is, Blue reaffirmed his commitment to Wiles on his official visit.. LAST weekend, after having been committed to VT for months.. Only to call and back out at the last minute. So.. Wiles said he had been lied to, doesnt matter if the kid is 18 or not.. that's old enough to lie right? Either way, you think Golden and his assistant coaches don't say anything about other schools to potential recruits? My guess is they wouldnt like their calls with recruits to be publicized on twitter. Like I said earlier, the disgrace in this situation is the HS coach who allowed the reporter to listen in anyway.. and the reporter for not having the sense to decline.

Ok I can't believe I'm saying this but here it goes....

from the post..Eudocimus01 | February 02, 2012 at 01:15 PM

I actually agree with Eudo on this one. Someone write this down, make a footnote, something. A professional coach would have wished him good luck and see you next season from across the field. That's it. In this case an unprofessional member from the VT coaching staff had a hissyfit. WWWUUUUAAAAAAAAA I didn't get the recruit that I wanted WWWUUUAAAA!!!!

GO U!!

For good coaches, stars are helpful, but not everything, Golden is basically saying give me a 6'2 , 6'3 223 talented but raw kid with a good attitude, a quick 1st step and the desire to be great, and he can turn them into a contributer

Big D, it was the pejorative tone and what was implied rather than the actual words. Take it as you wish in the end it doesn't matter but it reflects poorly that a grown man has a temper tantrum over the decisions of an 18 year old kid.
