Ray-Ray Armstrong is no longer a Miami Hurricane.
The senior safety and former top recruit in UM's 2009 class was dismissed from the football team Wednesday morning -- about a month after he reportedly discussed interaction with a booster via Twitter.
Although UM has yet to explain why he was dismissed (InsideTheU.com reported Armstrong's interaction with a booster), the school did say Armstrong can continue to be enrolled as a scholarship student to complete his degree, or the university will grant him a full release should he elect to transfer to another institution.
Last season, Armstrong was a candidate for several national preseason awards before being suspended by the NCAA for the first four games of the season for accepting impermissible benefits from former UM booster Nevin Shapiro, whose relationship with the University of Miami is the subject of an ongoing NCAA investigation.
Armstrong was later suspended in November for game after going to dinner at Prime 112 steakhouse in Miami Beach with a friend who owns a public relations company that works with professional athletes, then tweeting about the dinner. He was later cleared of any wrongdoing in that situation.
He played in seven games as a junior in 2011, earning a start against Duke. He finished the season with 34 tackles, an interception and fumble recovery. Many believed he would enter the NFL Draft after the 2011 season, but he chose to remain with the Hurricanes. But he decided to return.
Earlier this month, Armstrong was named to the preseason watch list for the Bednarink Award, given annually to the nation's top defensive player. In the spring game in April, he had an interception and a fumble recovery. He finished the spring listed first on the depth chart.
Defensive backs coach Paul Williams said in May Armstrong had shown improvement this spring, but still needed to be more disciplined.
"Just run the package, that's what I tell him," Williams said. "Every now and then he wants to be too aggressive. He just needs to run the defense. But he's gotten better. Looks like he's bought in. We need him to step up and be a leader."
Armstrong played in 30 games in his career at UM and finished with 134 career tackles, two forced fumbles, six pass deflections and four interceptions. He finished third on the team with 79 tackles in 2010 and was named All-ACC Second Team.
Rivals.com ranked Armstrong as the nation’s No. 13 player, regardless of position, as a senior at Sanford Seminole High in 2008.
With Armstrong gone, the Canes will likely turn first to redshirt junior A.J. Highsmith, who switched to safety last season after serving as a backup quarterback his first two seasons at Miami. Highsmith, the son of former Canes legend Alonzo Highsmith, finished with 12 tackles in 11 games last season. He was listed second on the team's depth chart at free safety behind Armstrong.
Fifth-year senior Vaughn Telemaque, who has started all 25 games in the last two seasons, is the team's other starting safety.
Other returning veterans include: Kacy Rodgers (6-2, 213, Jr.) and Andrew Swasey (5-10, 205, Sr.).
UM recruited seven defensive backs in their 2012 signing class. Former Miami Columbus standout Deon Bush was the top rated safety in the group. He was ranked sixth overall at his position by Rivals.com.

gatorsam, your logic has a fatal flaw. You are looking at preseason rankings which are, for the most part, garbage. UF at 25? Georgia at 6 and Arkansas at 9? That will not hold up. Georgia is not a top 10 team. UFailure is not top 25 so all of sudden the schedule is less intimidating. Clemson may or may not be worthy of an 18 ranking.
We saw last year how UF was ranked 12 going in and how horribly wrong that was.

I could care less what some magazine selling igit dick says when it comes to who has the toughest schedule. The eyes don't lie and Georgia State, Furman and Jacksonville state tell us all we need to know about how strong and confident the SEC teams really are.

SOS is a legit measure of a schedule's worth (ask LSU in 2003). How did the SOS stack up for the big 3 Florida schools last year?

Four words, Pig: Tracy Howard Gatah lock.
Remember that, Pigfat? You are still as stupid as can be.
"Tracy Howard Gatah lock." Ahhhh, I still remember the smell of burning Pig when he punked the UTrailer on national TV.
Then we didn't hear from the bog Pig for 3 weeks.

"Like I said before play somebody out of conference that is really good in their house and win and then the boys from the SEC will truley have the respect the Canes have."
U r such a delUsional fool. The SEC HAS all the respect in the world. Ur sorry canes have none.

Gatr Sports: You don't go on pre season predictions, you don't go on prior year's results, you don't go on official NCAA SOS stats, so you just pull it out of thin air in your opinion because Alabama or Georigia don't play USC in LA the SEC is not the best oonference. Maybe you should have your own show on ESPN.

Damn volleyball master can you come up with something of your own or are you capable of copying and pasting only? You would think that going to a private school would have taught you something but I guess being original wasn't one of them. You simply like to follower the leader.
-You can't come up with anything original.
-You play volleyball as a competitive sport. Still laughing.
-You can only copy and paste which is the equivalent of a kindergartener coloring within the lines.
-You talk as if you have actually done something with your life. You're in highschool, you haven't done 5hit kid.
-I willing to bet you were dumb enough to vote for Obummer. Thanks for contributing to the economical crisis that we're in. Next time simply don't vote.
-You play volleyball as a competitive sport. Good Lord!!!!!hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
You are absolutely pathetic. Plus you have still avoided something that I called you out on earlier. You want to be here and talk 5hit then claim your colors. What college do you represent kid? Come out with it or come out of the closet already, the rest of your volleyball team has. Volleyball hahahahahahahahahahahaha.
GO CANES ALL DAY EVERYDAY! YOUR HATE IS OUR FUEL, THE MORE YOU BRING THE STRONGER WE BECOME!
GO GOLDEN 2012!!!

Hey trolls you act like this is a surprise where the guys with the pencils put us.
I could care less what they think, or you for that matter.
I like the direction my team is moving. When we win the Coastal this year ( yes I think we take the Coastal). Then we get hit with sanctions, and Gators are our bowl game next year. Can't wait.
You do realize that all your talk is worth squat till the season starts?
You act like you are winning something. Your not. All you are doing is running your mouth, and we laugh at your foolishness.
Can't wait till the season starts, and see which one of you come back on when we start winning and are in the hunt for the Coastal.
Other than Gatorsam all you have shown is that you can throw insults at people who you don't matter to.
Enjoy your lonely weekends, and repeat after me.
IT'S GREAT TO BE A MIAMI HURRICANE!!!! IT'S GREAT TO BE A MIAMI HURRICANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You lonely little boy.
You are patting yourself on the back with one of your other handles and now you are taking Gatorsam's.
Damn son. Grow up and get a life.

It gets better and better.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Yahoo Sports is reporting that a former Miami football employee linked to one-time booster Nevin Shapiro helped members of Al Golden's coaching staff with recruiting, which could be another NCAA violation for the troubled program.
Citing unidentified sources, Yahoo Sports says former Miami assistant equipment manager Sean Allen not only contacted recruits and provided impermissible benefits, but did so with Golden's "direct knowledge."
Earlier Friday, two people with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press that NCAA investigators visited Miami for several days earlier this month as the lengthy probe into the Hurricanes' compliance practices continues.
The university did not have any immediate comment.

Gatorsam, I am talking about non conference schedules not conference games. The truth is the SEC doesn't play anybody of merit away from their stadiums unless it is a place that for all intensive purposes is a glorified home game. And until they do they are not what ESPN or anybody else claims them to be. When they play great teams from other conferences at their place and win then and only then will they have the right or respect that they phantomly have now. And those preseason rankings are garbage. If they are so good as the stooges at ESPN want everyone to think they are then they should have no problem going into somebody elses house and winning. That is a good team not a Georgia State, Wofford, Jacksonville State or any of the other cream puffs they play out of conference.

What UM homer is really saying: I like my canes regardless of what anybody says. It bugs me that another school in this state casts a big shadow we can't get out from under, so I will cast as many rhetorical stones as I can in their direction taking comfort in the fact that I am at least chaffing a few of their faithful.
It's cool man. We get it. But for S's and G's humor us by calling into WQAM or the Jack show and riffing this argument. Just want to hear a somewhat learned sports radio guy who is also a homer hesitate and awkwardly acknowledge you before he quickly moves on to the next caller.

Yo cane trash
Yo U aint got no mo championships so U don't matter. U so dense U don't get it. The SEC has all the respect in the world. They earned it on the field. Dah U aint got no respect. They also earned that on the field. No conspiracy by ESPN. They just like to promote the winners, like the SEC and not the whiners like U.
And now there is this new twist for the NCAA. Some Pee Wee dude implicating Golden Retriever with recruiting violations. Who's in charge at the Coral Gables dUmp?
Man it sUcks to be U. Ur saga continues. Who's next.
Bunch of pathetic LOOSERS!!
