New Depth Chart Released by Hurricanes; and Quick Hits from Monday Practice

 Good morning.

Monday update after day off for team on Sunday. Scroll to end of this blog for complete depth chart.

Al Golden released his newest depth chart following the abbreviated scrimmage (lightning) on Saturday afternoon.

*The first-team defensive tackles are now sophomore Olsen Pierre and redshirt junior Luther Robinson. Curtis Porter, who started camp with a black jersey, is nowhere to be found. Golden said he has "a health issue'' that UM is being careful with right now, but gave no specifics otherwise. Darius Smith was demoted to second-team behind Luther.

*At outside linebacker, it's Thurston Armbrister OR Eddie Johnson.

*At safety it's Kacy Rodgers on one side OR true freshman Deon Bush on first team.

* Receiver Allen Hurns, who was upgraded from a red (no contact) jersey to yellow (limited) Monday for what he said was a head injury (also didn't elaborate), has an OR between his name and Phillip Dorsett's. Below those guys are senior Davon Johnson OR freshman Malcolm Lewis.

*Another interesting move on the other side. Receiver Kendal Thompkins, a fifth-year senior, is now listed on top with an OR between his name and sophomore Rashawn Scott's.

*At running back, after starter Mike James, there's an OR between Eduardo Clements and Duke Johnson. Johnson, a true freshman, moved up a spot from the last depth chart, with Dallas Crawford moving down to No. 4.

* At cornerback, Brandon McGee remains No. 1 on one side, with Ladarius Gunter on the other. Freshman Tracy Howard is now listed as No. 2 behind Gunter, with an OR between his name and Thomas Finnie's.

OTHER NOTES:

Seantrel Henderson is still not at camp. Golden said he's still on the team, but "has to get his personal house in order.'' Seantrel, of course, isn't on the depth chart.

Yellow (limited) jerseys Monday: WR Hurns, TE Dyron Dye, CB Larry Hope.

Red (no contact) jerseys: DL Cory King.

I still say redshirt Seantrel. It will help him and the team to have that drama pushed to one side for a year.

looks like we see who will be playing this year and a few others..don't know exactly who will be starting

Everyone already knows Seatrell has become a distraction and has likely very much accepted he ll be a virtual non contributor largely this year. Not practicing at all hurts any player prior to the start of the season. That said...looks like the most important area on the team...after QB.........at the DT area.....is beginning to show early-season stress.THIS has been the achilles heel of the team/program for about the past 10 years.Guys at this spot just seem unable/unwilling to go all out and remain out of shape and properly prepared mentally. Can t understand why NO ONE DT sticks out or is stepping up to demonstrate that HE wants that position.Just perplexing.

Where is DE/DT Jalen Grimble? Where is S Andrew Swasey?

Either those remaining guys recruited by Randy Shannon are not very good football players....OR the guys recruited by Al Golden are just better, hungrier, more disciplined, etc.

Al Golden has the right attitude.

a true freshman at RT is interesting. KENDAL THOMPKINS has finally arrived and hopefully DUKE and Dorsett are able to take some punts and kickoffs to the house this year. Don't think we had a special teams TD last year at all..

Agreed. Redshirt him and let him come back after getting his things together. He'll be fresh, in shape, leaner, stronger and ready for the next season. Next years Oline will be really impressive. We're not losing many there. I say do the same with Raphael Kirby also. He's slated to miss half of this season. Let him recuperate, and stick in him the gym for a year. I can't believe Curtis Porter is hurt again. Hopefully it's nothing crazy, we can use him on the Dline.

GO CANES!!!!

Funny how last week some folks gave me a hard time for suggesting we redshirt Kirby. This is a rebuilding year, building up the team for next year when we will be bowl eligible, so it makes sense to treat this as a multi-year process, and get this team as good as it can be for 2013.

JUST READY 4 DA FIRST GAME
2C WHAT WE GOT. DA U
GOTTA PLAY FAST.

I have always supported the position of hanging in with Seantrel and gave him the benefit of the doubt from the begining..

I am now stating that my support is not there...

I see disregard for weight control in the begining.. playing sporadically, not keeping up with the game, back surgery, and now this year a miriad of personal problems..which took precedence over his loyalty to the team and his team mates.

Frankly I think that there are too many distractions for the team...
This last funeral and he is still not back...

Cut him loose...

Never thought I would say that, but the team has moved on and Coach G is at the end of his patience...
Having Senatrel hang around and have a recurrence of these drama situations does not present a positive note for the team.

Seantrel cannot be brought along this season...and what do we do with him in the interim?...

Break clean, thank him for what he has done and open up the scholly before the NCAA decision...

The team and Coaches have moved on... Coach Kehoe could not get through to this kid...none of the Coaching staff could reach his thinking that this is serious College football...

We all have to handle death in our families and we grieve, suck it up and go on with work and our daily tasks..the world did not stop for us, neither should it stop for Seantrel.

Seantrel it was good while it lasted..time to move on and see what unfolds for you.
Relistic attitudes are presented in realistic situations..sometimes it hurts but paths do take different turns in life...Good luck.
Go 'Canes Always

To Canefan.........Regarding Seatrell.......ummmmmmmm ya think he ll be stsrting anytime soon?Really?????????Having virtually zero practice time and the season starts in a little over 1 1/2 weeks????????

i hope seantrel does not throw away a promisiing opportunity that God has given him to use his athletic skills to earn a college education for free. these guys take for granted what most of us cherish... drama seems to follow these kids around casting almost as big a shadow as seantrel.. he could have been something special for us. i thought something was off when he de-comitted to us after a strong senior year and much ballyhooed recruitment circus. goes to show those other schools may have known something was up with this kid. I hope he has his act together and still comes back strong. it would be a shame if he was added to the heap pile of #1 busts going into college from high school. lets keep our fingers crossed because i dont think he would benefit from sitting idle another year to garner more drama. good luck big man. Go Canes. Cuban Cane 4 life!!

nothings changed. She is a good friend very much like our mutual friend.

Cut Seantrel loose if he wont redshirt. That's it. Enough. This program CANNOT afford this type of dead weight and distraction. When he played he was so-so anyway. Never dominant, never willing to live up to his physicalabilities through sheer work and determination. Always something.

Remember Grimble was a 5* out of Las Vegas....a Shannon recruit....NO WHERE TO BE FOUND NOW....star system sucks.

Hello everyone

Canez1 here. I'm still a blog racist and pretend tough guy over on the perverted lawyer skank website.

There are only three regular posters and they all agree with my racist comments against Jacory and Randy. The only players I ever insult are canes. In fact you might think I'm a gaytor the way I say disgusting things against our own team.

Actually I'm in the closet but coming out soon. Im gay so deal with it.

Come visit our 800 pound recruiting expert that predicts we land a class with 100 recruits.

Everybody's saying release this guy, I don't see the logic in this. He has gone through some tough times and we can't abandon him. We have to help him throgh this. Besides we might need him if we have a streak of bad luck and get some guy's injured. Go CANES and Seantrel

Seantrel and Jalen Grimbel were the two highest ranked players in that Hurricane class. Thats a good reason why rankings mean doodley squat. There are hundreds of lesser ranked players that start for teams all over this nation that are better than perceived 4+ star players. The key is bringing in high potential players and developing their intensity, strength and skills to compete at a high level in training, practice and game time. Golden is doing it the right way and until they get results you'll still have guys taking the easy way out.

I understand that he is grieving, but there is something more to it than just a grieving process. He fails to understand that it is not just about what God has blessed him, but it is also about multiplying what God has blessed him with. When God blesses you with two or five talents he wants you to come back with four or five talents. Do not be the man who God gave one talent and did nothing with that one talent to multiply his investment. What am I saying? When a man as big as he is can only bench 225 eleven times then there is something wrong with his work ethic. Crying out loud Stephen Morris benches 225 eleven times and he is a half the size Seantrel is. Seantrel has to take training seriously or else the next man not nearly as blessed from birth as Seantrel will pass him up.

The whole idea of red shirting him sounds awesome until you imagine the worst case scenario. What if he decides to transfer after sitting out a year? If he decides to transfer then he will be eligible to play the next year. Then again that wouldn't be a worst case scenario. If he decides to buy in like the other players then it would be good for him and the team. If he decides to leave then at least he will no longer be our problem anymore.

Yall some tards! Grimble was not in Henderson class. Wow, when did you all start watching The U play football?

"He fails to understand that it is not just about what God has blessed him, but it is also about multiplying what God has blessed him with. When God blesses you with two or five talents he wants you to come back with four or five talents. Do not be the man who God gave one talent and did nothing with that one talent to multiply his investment."

What a load of garbage. BTW, which god are you referring to? Maybe Seantrel does not believe in that god so everything you just posted is irrelevant.

Come to think of it, either way, it is irrelevant nonsense. There is no sky fairy.

Hello Everyone,

Canez1's stalker is a liar and a troll, trying to badmouth protected Canes sites because he cannot post on them. He hates COH, CS, EOTH, SP, and the rest of those sites that turn off his access after his first delusional ranting. So we are stuck reading his venom on here, until the Herald clears his sick comments off here as well.

The hardware store will sell him a length of rope on that day, and then he will never be heard from again.

Remember Grimble was a 5* out of Las Vegas....a Shannon recruit....NO WHERE TO BE FOUND NOW....star system sucks.

Grimble was not a Randy Shannon recruit, he was a Golden steal late. NOt looking too good for him now, however.

I say do the same with Raphael Kirby also. He's slated to miss half of this season. Let him recuperate, and stick in him the gym for a year.

Honestly with the way things are going on, sticking a couple of guys in redshirts till next season isn't a bad idea. In case of Henderson, there's very little doubt in my mind that he will be back by mid season. Maybe substituting in for starters but he will not be a starter this season in my opinion. Stick Henderson, Kirby in the gym for a year and they will tear up the 2013 season. Otherwise cut Henderson loose. If he can't see that redshirting will be the best for him for his future then let him go. No more "me first" players. Those kinds of attitudes will and have killed teams before. Our Oline is looking great without him anyways. Bunche, Linder, and Feliciano are running it with McDermott and true freshman Flowers. Next year we'll have Bunche, Linder, Feliciano, Flowers, Henderson**, Alexis, Wheeler, Gadbois, Isadora and many more. Henderson can handle special teams duties if he doesn't want to redshirt otherwise it's time to give his scholarship to someone else.

CANES 2012!!!!!

Why would Henderson redshirt? He can go pro after this season, he'd be drafted on the second day even if he rode the bench all year.

@ Eudo

Of course he can go and turn pro after this season if he wanted to. But if he has any intelligence after seeing what happened B.Wash, T.Streeter, and everyone else that left early, he'll choose against that. He has elite size and physical talent but that alone will do nothing for you in the pros if you don't work. In highschool these antics happen and are acceptable in many cases but in college there is no place for that. We all know there is no place for that in the pros also. Scouts will look at him and say he's a football specimen that only comes around every so often, then they'll look at his track record, past behaviors, etc etc. The combine is nothing more than a job interview and if he doesn't interview correctly, then he'll get what he gets. If he does redshirt and get his mind and body right, he'll go in the top 20 of the first round the following season. He needs to boost his resume so to speak. Same thing with B.Wash who admitted that entering the draft was a terrible idea. I'm sure that T.Streeter thought so also. If those underclassmen that left early had stayed along with the class that we currently have, we wouldn't be so poorly ranked(personally care less about that), we would have an elite receiver, great Olineman, a possibly great Dlineman (Forston), and a great DE in Vernon. Forston is looking really good for the Patriots right now. That's a perfect example of someone who really needed time to heal from previous injuries and go out there and prove everyone wrong. Chickillo and Vernon on the ends would be one of the scariest sights an opposing QB could think of. Streeter along with Dorsett, Hurns, and the rest of the receivers would have destroyed secondaries making them look like little kids. In Miller's case since the life of a RB isn't very long I can understand why he would go early. He would have easily had another 1000yd season which would have boosted his resume and shoot him right into the first round. Point to all of this is that if you leave early thinking you can make it instead of knowing that you can make it are two completely different things. Guys like Ed Reed and many others made The U what it is by not jumping to the pros but coming back for their senior years and dominating their schedules. I personally can't wait for Sept.1 to see where we really are.

GO CANES!!!

The depth chart info is ridiculous. A or B, but next week it's D or C. Hopefully no one is holding his/her breath on this "information." This is really non-sense until a game is played.

@ Eudo and Canetillidie
I see no reason to redshirt Seantrel. Let him come back when he gets his head in order, and fight for a spot. He can help the team towards the end of the season when players are nicked up from the season.
If Seantrel then wants to go pro he can. I think he should stay for the reasons Cantillidie stated.
A redshirt would be a waste to me, because Seantrel will be gone after next season if he has a great year.
Come on Sept. 1st

IT"S GREAT TO BE A MIAMI HURRICANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You all don;t get it don't you.

Grieving? Is he grieving more than Mike James grieved when his momma died and he still played the next game?

Please- you all are soft. He hasn't just been injured. he also has'nt lived up to the expectationas and the hype. had he, he would have come in, all 6-8 of him as a freshman and started right off the bat. Truth is, he came in thinking they'd just give him the position and coaches soon realized he was soft and weak and pathetically underconditioned not t o mention probably was clueless. Then the next year he barely did anything, and then got hurt and had surgery. So did Morris- Now Morris through hard work and determination is back to being the starter.

Please--- NO EXCUSES. I'm sick and tired of seeing FIU, USF, UCF ranked ahead of us, notto mention UF and OSU (100% undeserved) and FSU!

corpus. We aren't soft on him, he has been a disappointment all around. That is why we say keep him out until he earns a spot on the team.

@ corpus
I don't think I am being soft.
If Seantrel comes back. Use him.
No he has not dominated so far, but he has not stunk the place up ether.
He came back lighter, stronger, and in the best condition since he has been at the U.
We will need every big body that can play if we are going to move up the rankings.

18 Starters returning for 2013 season. This will be a good year, next year will be over the top.

Remember Grimble was a 5* out of Las Vegas....a Shannon recruit....NO WHERE TO BE FOUND NOW....star system sucks.

****
He was? Ha!

Seantrel is hoping Faulkner has a vacancy at offensive tackle on the extra point squad.

Anthony, what are you smoking, there will be no over the top years at Miami until the probation is over. A good season here and there yes, but over the top. Come on get real, stop dreaming.

I like the fact that we finally have stability on the o line and those guys have time to gel. as for the dt position,we really do need someone to step up and take ownership of the position. completely dominate inside so all our lb's have to do is run and make tackles.

Seantrel is done and not coming back. He's already enrolled at North Hennepin Community College in Minneapolis as a backup plan to keep his academic status intact. He will skip this season and transfer (likely to USC. Kiffen is all over this) during the Winter term, participate in Spring practice and be eligible in 2013 chasing a Ring that others forged the way for. Toliet flushed and best for both parties. Nice kid, but way to sensitive and basically zero work ethic. Reminds me a lot of Marcus Dupree minus the actual talent. Just been coddled his whole life, and when things go wrong, tends to fold his tent, pack up and avoid adversity. Al has bent over backwards for him and is ready to solve this distraction.

Let Golden decide what to do with Henderson- He is the one who best knows the situation and Henderson's intent/reliability.
Whatever happened to Matt Patchan?
My God!!! almost the whole starting lineups are FR and SO. I hope they can deliver
just opinion

I coUld care less about Football...EnoUgh with Ur prayers Canefans. Not even I can help U and where Ur heading. U need more of lUcifer's playahs.

Right on canetillidie. As usual white heron has head in dark quarters

CANETILLIDIE....DH - yea, that's the "right" thing to do in terms of making Seantrel a better player but it doesn't seem like he's much interested in that.

If I had to guess I'd say the message of Brandon Washington going in the sixth round didn't hit home as hard as Olivier Vernon doing nothing in college, blowing away the pro day and combine, going in the third.

But like I say, no reason to redshirt, it's not like he'd stay at UM for two additional years after this one. Not exactly his style. I've never even heard of a sophomore redshirting for non-medical reasons, there's just no chance he's going to do that.

The assertion that "guys like Ed Reed" coming back made UM great is patently false, it's nice and all when they do but the vast majority of great UM football players left after their junior years.

wwooww!!! !!!!!!! i've been a cane fan since 79 and i thought i knew all the players, this year i know 5 starters i gotta get more green & orange going through my veins cant wait for the season to start go canes 4 life.

McGee is the weak spot on D. Find a replacement. He came in with all kinds of ballyhoooo, but hasn't lived up to it. he has not impressed.

This Tracy Howard guy might be a steal.

Cool Cat

I've been preaching that same thing about McGee forever. Make him a receiver or return man. He is not a cover guy in any way.

@Eudo

There were guys that left in their junior years but know what, those guys actually played solid football for the time that they were here. They didn't leave until they left a mark. Look at Jeremy Shockey. He dominated, left his mark, and then went pro and well deserved too. Then Kellen Winslow II comes in and leaves his mark. So on and so on. There were a lot of guys that stuck around and contributed to the success of The U. Even you have to agree to that.

In regards to Henderson and redshirting...I think that he should redshirt "this" season to prep him for next season and the rest of his life. As of right now, if he doesn't take that option, it'll take well more than half of the season for him to get back into the rotation or go pro. He would be lucky to be on special teams with the amount of practices that he's missed. He should redshirt now and move into the gym for the year. Imagine him after a year in the gym....Think about that. Any pro team that would take him now will use him as an experiment because he hasn't done much honestly and he has had behavioral issues. How many times has the negative light shone on him?? He has elite size, that's it. I wish we could say more but really what else is there to say other than his size? Redshirt now and it'll guarantee a spot for next season along with the rest of the behemoths we have for Olinemen. He'll boost his football resume and will go in the first round without needing to be told that he will only to end up in another round like the previous players that left early. I'm thinking long term here. I know that most of these guys don't do that but they should. If he does this there are nothing but positives for his future. As always....

GO CANES ALL DAY EVERYDAY!!!!

Honestly, Seantrel doesn't have the mental capacity to handle the rigors of going pro. He's having trouble at the college level, what makes anyone think that he's going to succeed at the pro level.

Mike James handled his mother passing away by playing ball. He was given his time and he came back to his team, his football family who welcomed him back with open arms. Did Seantrel's mother pass? Father? Grandparent? I know I'm sounding like jerk right now but I'm getting tired of this distraction. Mike James handled his business why can't Seantrel?

They need to give henderson a choice. Redshirt if he dont think he can give football his all. Or tell him he can play but not start. Let him know his playing time will probably depend on if another player gets hurt........just let him know no one is going to hold a place for him if he is not here.

Who ever said Seantrel is going back to USC, please, USC won't have scholarships to throw away next year on guys like Mr Henderson. He may in fact be done at the U but he's burnt his bridges out there. As far as going there to chase a RING, this is USC's year, then their sanctions kick in and they come down to earth with a thud.
