New Depth Chart Released by Hurricanes; and Quick Hits from Monday Practice

 Good morning.

Monday update after day off for team on Sunday. Scroll to end of this blog for complete depth chart.

Al Golden released his newest depth chart following the abbreviated scrimmage (lightning) on Saturday afternoon.

*The first-team defensive tackles are now sophomore Olsen Pierre and redshirt junior Luther Robinson. Curtis Porter, who started camp with a black jersey, is nowhere to be found. Golden said he has "a health issue'' that UM is being careful with right now, but gave no specifics otherwise. Darius Smith was demoted to second-team behind Luther.

*At outside linebacker, it's Thurston Armbrister OR Eddie Johnson.

*At safety it's Kacy Rodgers on one side OR true freshman Deon Bush on first team.

* Receiver Allen Hurns, who was upgraded from a red (no contact) jersey to yellow (limited) Monday for what he said was a head injury (also didn't elaborate), has an OR between his name and Phillip Dorsett's. Below those guys are senior Davon Johnson OR freshman Malcolm Lewis.

*Another interesting move on the other side. Receiver Kendal Thompkins, a fifth-year senior, is now listed on top with an OR between his name and sophomore Rashawn Scott's.

*At running back, after starter Mike James, there's an OR between Eduardo Clements and Duke Johnson. Johnson, a true freshman, moved up a spot from the last depth chart, with Dallas Crawford moving down to No. 4.

* At cornerback, Brandon McGee remains No. 1 on one side, with Ladarius Gunter on the other. Freshman Tracy Howard is now listed as No. 2 behind Gunter, with an OR between his name and Thomas Finnie's.

Seantrel Henderson is still not at camp. Golden said he's still on the team, but "has to get his personal house in order.'' Seantrel, of course, isn't on the depth chart.

Yellow (limited) jerseys Monday: WR Hurns, TE Dyron Dye, CB Larry Hope.

Red (no contact) jerseys: DL Cory King.

Seantrel is a head case, nobody would take him and have him poison their locker room - cut him lose and start from scratch with another RT. To think that he was not only a 5 star but the number 1 ranked recruit in the nation when he transferred here from USC... what a waste of talent.

Start Tracy Howard!

Seantrell is not there mentally. I wouldnt cut him loose, but the kid cant help the team.

All y'all gone eat y'all words talking bad about seantrel somebody dies in this man family and y'all saying get rid of him. You people funny & dumb if the coach not talking bad why or y'all talking bad. He will still play for the U and be another NFL star from the U deal with it go canes

Bob, boob, whatever the h--- your name is. Miami has young guys that can carry them through this season and make run next year. What do you smoke, the backups are freshmen, redshirt freshmen, and sophomores. Probation may catchup in the end but not next year.

Go clean the meth lab in your tub and stfu!

first off seantel is out of sight out of mind right now...they the guys on the team attitude is if he is here he's here..... if not what did Golden say"one man out next man in" (old cliche road warrior terror dome movie). The depth chart is showing who is gonna play this year..their is only eight true freshman on the depth chart and one starting and 4 on the two deep..common sense would tell people that Gaines.Buck.and DP are gonna be the starting backers..the primary cbs will be gunter ..howard.and with mc gee playing nickel cb.. safetys telamaque and rodgers..the dts are the only mystery pretty much..i mean eddie johnson and ambrister and mccord jelani hamilton D bush .they are what you call package guys..nickel..3rd and long..goaline..really not assignment football really don't have to grasp the whole playbook..just certain parts and as the season progress they will have a better grasp and better understanding of the playbook..tracy and duke will get plenty of playing time..howard is what you call a boundary or cover corner..with mcgee playing on the inside he can concentrate more than likely on the opposing teams best wideout..kind of like your coach literally telling you to just stick that guy and follow him where ever he goes..no checks. no getting in the right spot just follow that guy..the best thing on the depth chart IMO was ..no change on the oline..and kendal thomkins stepping up..notice Malcolm Lewis is 3rd or4th and herb waters is 3rd string..all upperclassmen ...which i feel is better than freshman get significant snaps at a skill position.. im not saying that in the middle of the season they won't be getting significant snaps just not at the beginning ...I like coach Golden bcuz he said a few things but the things i remember he said is better conditioned, competition , and depth....i am excited but i feel like it is a wait and see for the first game but i am very very optimistic...

oh yeah about the freshman look at AC and D perryman stats at the beginning..those first 3 games DP had 9 tackles tot..4th game he had 7..he got better and better threw out the year ..the freshman and the team will get better threw out the year..if they win those first two games than BCC..watch out

It would be nice if Seantrell would get his stuff together and come back and gain the necessary work ethic he is going to need when or if he ends up in the NFL. But at this point that kid has been nothing more than a bust along the lines of that ballyhood LB recruited by Coker. Even if he does go pro Seantrell would be cut in no time and at the rate he is going he would be lucky to get drafted in the 4th round. So there goes any guaranteed money. Either way its good to see that our OL is having time to jell together. I tell you one thing, this is going to be an exciting year just watching these young Canes grow up before our eyes.

You beat me to this. I didn't know about the Minnesota thing (are you positive?) but I've had a feeling all along that USC was just too strong on his mind.'Especially now, off probation, ranked #1.
If in fact Kiffin is behind this, that could be construed as ANOTHER egregious violation, and as it is within the 5 year NCAA window, could get USC at least 2 more years on probation.
Kiffin has MANY detractors, and if there is a smoking gun, you can be SURE it will turn up.

Bob, you don't know Kiffin as we in TN do. (I hate the Vols, but that's what we get here)
Kiffin cares not a whit about the players, just his own self aggrandizement, and if a 350lb 6'6 O-Lineman can protect the new USC QB when Barclay leaves, you can BELIEVE Kiffin will get this kid a scholarship, even if it means finding away to cut another player out of one.

Trust me on this.

Calipari gets kids for one year, then off to the NBA. Seemed to work OK for him.

Susan just can't get off her obsession with Sentrel after missing her interview. Also she and other writers dislike closed practices.
Golden is doing the right thing, keeping this private. Sentral needs to grow up and get with it.

Ahhhhhh, beautiful 58 degree morning here in Minneapolis.

U CaneclUcks see Ur pathetic 3 n 4 Deep Team Roster ? ... U have 1--O-Linemen, 1--D-End and 1--L.B. that would even see the field for the Gators as rotating backups... THAT'S IT !!! 3 Players on Ur entire #55 Ranked team period...

oh, maybe Ur Heisman Punter would actUally start.

Lots of speculation on Seantrel Henderson, including a rumor that he has enrolled at a JC near home and will go to USC. Why would they want him? He could be a blame others type who is "special."

Bottom line is the Canes do not need this guy. He is flakey and a negative for the team. He is unmotivated and consistently a distraction. He has not shown dominance or desire.

So, he lost weight, so what?

He was drawn to Shannon, not Golden.

Let's get behind Ereck Flowers at RT. He is a tough kid who wants to be a Cane. We don't need any more 5 star busts who are over-hyped underperformers. UM needs to be solid as a team that wants to play hard.

Whoever died, it is unfortunate. Nonethless, Seantrel, time to get with it or get off it. We have already wasted too much energy on you.

KMSP Fox Channel 9 in Minneapolis is reporting that Sentrel Henderson, the former Number 1 High School Football recruit out of Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul will enroll at the University of Minnesota, redshirt and be eligible to play Football during the 2013 Season for the Gophers according to reliable sources within the University. Henderson is not expected participate in any Gopher Football related activities until after classes begin on Sept. 4th. When contacted, a Henderson family spokesman has requested respecting they're privacy at this time as they are dealing with family personal issues and a statement will be released soon. KMSP Fox 9 will respect the Henderson family's wishes and will report any further information as it becomes available.

Gatorspammer, you obsessed sicko, when we finally play you cowards, we will see who has the better players. UNTIL THEN, troll, take your lies and insults to gator Clause, where they belong.

We are not rivals since you chickened out and unlike Notre Dame have yet to come back, we are not in the same conference, and you do not have anywhere near the top history that Miami has.

You don't have to go away mad, fool, just go away.

Strange, there is no link on their website to your information MikeB.
Please provide a link, so we can confirm your story.

If this post in regards to the university of minnesota gophers is true, then good luck Seantrel. We have plenty of Olinemen that are willing to kill themselves everyday to get just a little bit of playing time. Even if you do go up there to play for anyone else you still have to sit out a year, next year. He should stay here and redshirt this season to be ready for next season and then he can go pro if he wants. He'll have a much easier time doing that here with Swasey in the gym than he would up there. Maybe he couldn't handle the heat (most people from the north can't) and maybe he just thought that his size would be enough to get him through college. Sorry man, but that was wrong to assume. Good luck with whatever you do, just make the actual decision fast because football is about to start and THE U WILL START WITHOUT YOU.

LETS GO CANES 2012!!!!

I stated that we should cut Seantrel loose and wish him well.

All the posts about red shirting him, admits that this would be a dubious position to say the least.
What do we do with him in red shirting?.. I can't think of a positive thing to help Coach G mold the team into a Real team...with Seantrel hanging around..

What has he done this year to HELP the 'U' grow and develop?. Nothing.

Drama is great on the stage...No need to red shirt..

Time for Seantrel to pack and go, and while at it grow up and know that if his attitudes don't change he will not even sniff the NFL...they don't put up with drama and nonsense as Johnson found out.. Fast and quick is the NFL way.

Like any Corporation, decisions have to be made for the benefit of the Company ( the 'U', the Team) not the individual prima donna.
Great guy, get your house in order down the road, and it was good while it lasted.
Go 'Canes Always

i love it
