Eddie Johnson, Malcolm Lewis among new starters on Canes depth chart

UM released a new depth chart this morning in preparation for the Kansas State game on Saturday.

The biggest changes?

> True freshman Malcolm Lewis, who scored a touchdown versus Boston College, is now listed among the starters at receiver alongside Phillip Dorsett and Allen Hurns.

"Just have to keep working hard to maintain it," Lewis said Monday of moving onto the first team.

> Redshirt freshman Eddie Johnson is now listed as the starter at strongside linebacker ahead of Thurston Armbrister. Miami's defense looked dreadful against BC, giving up more than 500 yards.

> Junior Seantrel Henderson is now listed as the backup to Ereck Flowers at right tackle. That was obviously expected since he is no longer on the scout team. We'll see how much Henderson plays at Kansas State and if he gets in the rotation. Flowers graded out at 90 percent in his first college start.

> We have a couple new names as backups at defensive tackle. Jalen Grimble and Earl Moore are now listed behind Darius Smith and Luther Robinson (he was there last week) is listed as the co-backup along with Corey King to Olsen Pierre.

Sorry, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, I don't speak "idiot".

Are you asking me to explain why the DC deserves to be criticized?

We lost 6 games last year because of the defense.

Gave up over 500 yards of offense to BC.

That's just common sense.

Gt 7. Vt7. Intetesting. And VT playing 2 down linemen. What's up with that

Well for such an elitist you got it. Very poor reasons. We were in every game it was japickey that could not produce. And it was amazing he got as much as he did put of the NW nobodies.
In case you missed it we won at BC, had three turnovers, had a goal line stand, and held BC scoreless for most of the game.
Once again no facts for you.

Eudo ksu had 8 returning starters but lost their starting lt and wr before the season started. On defense they have aurther brown with over 100 tackles las year but their next three leading tacklers are cb s and a weak side line backer. I'm not sure how much depth they have but I think we have more talent than they do. Bill Snyder is a excellent coach and will get the most out of whatever he has. I think this is a very winnable game if we focus on Klein and Hubert the tailback(1000 yds last year). This is the first somewhat option team we will face. I would like to see more from Cleveland waford Clements Tyrone Cornelius. It's critical that the dlinemen as a whole come to play this weekend.

Tallycane: Art Brown left UM and turned into a superstar at KSU. He might be their top defensiveman. But we gave up way too much on D against BC. Again, it looks like we got great athletes but not a lot of people who known hands down how to play the individual defensive positions.

We will win 4 NC's and they will still bring up RS. It is just how some of us 'Canes fans are.

Mike James should be the starting Fullback, if anything!

MJ is not a Tailback!!!

I became a superstar out there because ksu made that defense for him. There have been numerous players that left UM and played exceptionally well. We had a shortage of development while Shannon was here due to the revolving door of coordinators and assistant coaches. I remember that year we got graham from bbal and he dropped to big critcal post when we played at vtech in the rain. True he only played one year for Shannon but I haven't seen him drop anything in the league. The other corner that played for green bay was on a team that won a Super Bowl but I don't think he did to much after that. I read people talking about they can't wait for Shannon's players to leave well Morris played a good game the majority of the oline played well. Let's not forget that duke Perryman I think we're coming to UM anyway but they were verbal commits for Shannon. These players come to UM becuase of the brand. It helps that golden is a good coach and has brought a different level of accountability and energy here. I will take a win anyway the d will be alright as soon as we figure out who needs to be on the field. I hear all this crap a bout fsu but I beleive they a fragile and even though they tried to play wv those first two cupcakes haven't helped them but hurt them. Fsu lost the star de along with the cb they are turning into the real fsu. Go canes

Yes, the DC is Garbage!

However, we are stuck with him!

Here's to hoping the DC asks for HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Va. Tech escapes with a W at home. Sickening. If this game matters for us, I believe they can be beat. It will take a pass rush and strong secondary play. We are already better on offense.

Tally,
You are right. People say. "Thank goodness all Randy's guys are gone" or "I can't wait for all Randy's guys to be gone". Those are the most idiotic statements around. The entire starting O-line (Wheeler, Linder, Bunche, Feliciano, McDermott and yes, the troubled Shandel Henderson are all Randy's guys. Only Ereck Flowers is a Golden recruit. Perryman and Chickillo are Randy's guys (They committed to Randy, he got fired and Golden and staff did a good job to keep them on board). Allen Hurns is a Randy recruit, so is Stephen Morris.

This coin has a flip side to it also. Kendal Thompkins, Brandon McGhee, Vaughn T., Davon Johnson, Curtis Porter and Luther Robinson are Randy's guys too. All I am saying is, to just randomly throw statements out there about RS (because he is an easy target) without any thought or research is just asinine. Golden and his staff (especially Coach Kehoe) are doing an excellent job of developing talent that unfortunately Randy and his staff were not able to develop. Golden is also bringing in game breakers of his own (Ereck Flowers, Duke Johnson, Malcolm Lewis, Tracy Howard, Deon Bush, and many others that we will see as the season wears on). He is also bringing back size, strength and conditioning to the team. Randy and his crew were lacking in this faze of coaching also. All I am saying is, people just throw statements out there because it is easy to pile on and not get called out about it because RS is a pariah.

As regards KSU, they also graduated 3 of last years O-Line. Their strength, next to Klein.
I heard the game with Missouri St. was very close till the last quarter.

Watched the VA Tech/GA Tech game. Neither would have beaten us last week.
Surprisingly, big mistakes from VA Tech's special teams.
BIG area of concern for me is GA Tech's line blocking scheme, which is mostly dive at the ankles and knees, illegal in the NFL, but apparently not in college football.
They often attempt tackles in the same manner. That will cost them dearly against us when Duke's carrying it. Just hoping they don't injure somebody bad. I think GA Tech plays bush league football.

Everybody needs to just quit bitching and whining and be glad we finally have a competent HC and a team that fights another team for everything instead of quitting during a game when things go bad. Has everyone forgot that this team is loaded with true freshmen, redshirt freshmen, and sophomores. Was I disappointed Saturday by the defense not looking dominate? Hell yeah, but it's going to take time for these young guys to learn the defense before we can look like we did in 2000 and 01. Ed Reed, Vilma, wilfork, and all of those guys didn't look so good when they were at the same stage in their careers and we all thought Butch didn't know what he was doing then either.

To my Miami Hurricanes and coaches as well, thank you, keep working through the process and look forward to you whoopin K-States arse this weekend
Canes all the way

I will take a win anyway we can get it.

After watching VT and GT last night. They are both beatable. QB play on both teams was not very good.
We win at K-State we can win the Coastal division.
Lets hope the D fixes the blown assignments, and we knock K-State's QB out of the Heisman race.

IT'S GREAT TO BE A MIAMI HURRICANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the defensive know it alls on this blog that said four down linemen were a must and the Miami DC should run it.
Last night VT GT game you saw two or three down linemen. Hey smart guys what's up with that.

See, the problem with critics are they really hate themselves. How would you bash your own team cause it didnt go the way you wanted it. Lets say it was a champioship game, would having 1000 passing matter if you lost. Tell me what defence in the country looked great over the weekend. If you wanna go by stats, i guess we shouldnt fear no team on our schedule cause, k state was tied 9-9 in the third quater by a scrub team. Ej manual was rattled by murry state, vtech has no offence at all. But mind you, it was the first game and boston college had a new oc in doug martin and the defence didnt have any tape to practice that. The d line was soft, but thats not coaching, we have no stars on the dline. They will get better but they are not game changers. But what we do have is the will to no sit back and look at other teams destroy us. Any win right now we should be happy with. Why critisize cause we are the 2001 hurricanes, the greatest team ever in college football. No you are not gonna get that, hell, even alabama couldnt do nothing with that squad. Let the people enjoy, and stop crying and giving that negative talk. Keep ya negativity at home, cause if you were not hidden by these website blogs, I'll knock ya out and strip ya cane stripes.

championships...

well said and a good summary of where it is...

Dont expect to win against K-State(but wouldnt be surprised if we did) but their defense gave up alot of yards against a division 2 school, so I expect alot of scoring on both sides. Good win after being down 14 and this team is much more conditioned then in past years.

The Defence is really young and will get better. I really like #44: Eddie is a play-maker; the more playing time he gets, the better Coach Do will look.

Sam well said. Exactly the summation needed

ACC year End Statistics...UM

TOTAL OFFENSE 4533 (mia)....4319 (opp)
Total Plays 737 788
Average Per Play 6.2 5.5
Average Per Game 377.8 359.9

BC TOTAL OFFENSE = 542

Either Miami has to drastically lower the 359.9 or significately raise the 377.8

lets see what happens but so far no change from last year.....

I dont care about any negative comments here I am PUMPED. The returning players and specially the freshmen have me smiling, we are a much better team than any in the last 10 years. Defense was scaring me early but the adjustments and corner blitzes helped out in the 2nd half. BC is no cupcake regardless of what that idiot gator Mark B wrote.
He was scared to say he is a Gator troll because they sucked so bad this weekend but we know. Game time is Cane Time baby!!!

Well mr gallo you seem to be dipping to much into the wino. Perhaps if you got it together you would see after game one we were 0-1 to a team that had two total wins all year. This year we are 1-0 with an ACC win to a bowl team of last year.
Yep, sure is no difference.

IT WAS BC,BUT IT WASN'T BOWLING GREEN..I FOR ONE DON'T THINK THE ACC IS AS BAD AS MOST SAY. NC,VA HAVE EVOLVED INTO TEAMS THAT BRING IT EVERY WEEK. AND WHO KNOWS WITH GT, ALTHOUGH THE TRIP OPTION SEEMS TO BE WEARING THIN LOOK AT MONDAYS GAME. AND VT,,,,DO THEY GET EVERY BOUNCE OR WHAT??? THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS, THEY ALWAYS BEAT U BY 1 MISSED TACKLE.
THE GOOD NEWS FOR US IS THAT THE O WAS FAR AHEAD OF THE D. WE SHOULD SEE NOTICABLE IMPROVEMENT THIS WEEK FROM THE D, WITH THAT AND THE O BEING MORE COMFORTABLE. I'M OPTOMISTIC. AND SPECIAL TEAMS ARE SOLID, ALL AROUND. BOTTS IS AUTOMATIC, CLAW WILL MAKE THEM ALL, AND THE RETURN GAME WILL BE DEADLY, EVEN WHEN WE START TO WORK CRAWFORD IN.
