STORYLINES
LAST WEEK: The Canes are coming off a 41-32 win at Boston College in the opener where they played a dozen true freshmen and rotated a total of 25 players on defense. The freshmen hardly looked as bad as the defense. Duke Johnson earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors after dashing for 135 yards and 2 TDs on just seven carries. Right tackle Ereck Flowers graded out at 94 percent and receiver Malcolm Lewis hauled in four catches and scored a touchdown. Defensively, UM forced three turnovers including a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown by middle linebacker Denzel Perryman. But UM gave up more than 500 yards on defense (including 441 through the air, 3rd most in school history) and blew coverage schemes several times
K-State, which beat UM 28-24 at Sun Life Stadium a year ago, struggled for three quarters against FCS opponent Missouri State last weekend, leading just 9-6 before going on a 42-3 run over the final 22 minutes of the game. Junior running back John Hubert picked up 95 of his 152 yards on 12 carries on a long touchdown run. Tramaine Thompson returned a punt 89 yards for a score, giving K-State their 82nd non-offensive TD since the 1999 season, tied for most in the country with Virginia Tech. Quarterback Collin Klein, who lit up UM a year ago and whom Golden referred to as the best running QB in the country Tuesday, finished 19 of 28 for 169 yards, 2 TDs against Missouri State. The Wildcats gave up 323 yards through the air to Missouri State, but were pretty stingy on run defense (95 yards on 26 attempts).
INJURIES/SUSPENSIONS: The Hurricanes come into the game relatively healthy (only DT Curtis Porter and LB Raphael Kirby are out among those listed on the two deep). Backup defensive tackle Luther Robinson (personal issues) did not make the trip. The Wildcats have three players listed as questionable: OL Nick Puetz (foot), OLB Boston Stiverson (foot), TE Andre McDonald (personal issues). Puetz is the starting left guard. McDonald and Stiverson aren't listed on the two-deep.

Miss me yet?
Posted by: Randy Shannon | September 08, 2012 at 12:57 PM
They have to put pressure on this team. We are making thei offense look real good.
Posted by: Tallycane | September 08, 2012 at 12:58 PM
Linksys im with you. Expect the worst hope for the best.
Posted by: Joisey Cane | September 08, 2012 at 12:58 PM

Posted by: mikeS | September 08, 2012 at 12:58 PM
okay...that was a win...showing a little heart.
17-3, let's get it in the endzone here and let the chips fall where they may.
Hopefully, the quitters have left this blog already.

WE DIDIT! WE DID IT! WE STOPPED THEM FROM GETTING A TD!! GEEEZ!
Is it me or do D'nofrio remind you of Tom Olivadotti?
Posted by: The U is the U! | September 08, 2012 at 01:00 PM
hey randy, i will never miss 48-0.
Posted by: mikeS | September 08, 2012 at 01:00 PM
Can't complain about the offensive line play, because there isn't any.
Posted by: F. T. Ardkowalczyk | September 08, 2012 at 01:02 PM
one team is attacking on D and one team isn't making mistakes on O...guess which is which?
Posted by: The U is the U! | September 08, 2012 at 01:03 PM
NJShore...this is testing even me!
Posted by: The U is the U! | September 08, 2012 at 01:04 PM
Lost in how awful Mark Ohnofrio is was how completely stupid the rehiring of Arthur Francis Kehoe was. This line couldn't block a dead field mouse.
This is the worst team in the history of the University of Miami football program.
Shut it down.
Posted by: F. T. Ardkowalczyk | September 08, 2012 at 01:04 PM
well # 70 on the O line is getting beat like it's cool
Posted by: DarinD | September 08, 2012 at 01:04 PM
It might be 31-3 at the half
Posted by: Ted | September 08, 2012 at 01:05 PM
3 and out D, lets go
Posted by: NJshoreCane | September 08, 2012 at 01:05 PM
Ok F.T. its official your a douche bag.
Posted by: Joisey Cane | September 08, 2012 at 01:05 PM
What did you expect.almost 600 yards last week against BC. Golden and DC should have never been hired. Golden had losing record comming in and DC has no experience. DC can not plan effectively against the opposition. Takes time and experience to do that. This is gonna get real ughly now. Another let down, I'm sick over it.
Posted by: Jim Gallo | September 08, 2012 at 01:06 PM
You have to remember our team is young even if it pisses me off.
Posted by: Joisey Cane | September 08, 2012 at 01:07 PM
just remember, this is before the penalties hit, just think how bad we will be after. golden has done a decent job recruiting, but if i am a recruit, i scratch this team off my list. watching this, why would anyone who wants to compete for anything come here. we just keep getting worse.
Posted by: mikeS | September 08, 2012 at 01:07 PM
the fat lady has sung, how far we have fallen.......... another disappointment year ahead, maybe next year, but if we dont get some MEAN?ANGRY D lineman there will be no change... good luck all Im outta here no need watch anymore today, we are being out coached "AGAIN" by Bill S.
Posted by: keith | September 08, 2012 at 01:08 PM
...they keep showing that d#@m Flutie play...now THAT was a terrible D...
Posted by: NJshoreCane | September 08, 2012 at 01:08 PM
And so is Gallo, its Goldens second year. Typical Miami fan. God im glad I dont live there anymore.
Posted by: Joisey Cane | September 08, 2012 at 01:08 PM
Jim...not lost on Golden...yet...but Playing this break-dont-bend D is even worse than Olivadotti's Dolphins D scheme. LB's 6-7 yards off the line?
Posted by: The U is the U! | September 08, 2012 at 01:09 PM
young is just another excuse we make every season.
Posted by: mikeS | September 08, 2012 at 01:09 PM
We are getting throttled by a poor mans Nebraska.
Posted by: Tallycane | September 08, 2012 at 01:09 PM
Hey Mike have you seen the roster.
Posted by: Joisey Cane | September 08, 2012 at 01:10 PM
I'm sick of hearing about being young. Your excuses are your own. There's a difference between being young and not being good. They're not good. Regardless of age. Is Brandon Linder young? He's been here three years and he's still getting flagged for holding. Is Ramon Buchanan young? He's been here since Jesus was a baby and still has no idea what he's doing. We went out and hired this clown who looks like the love child of Rod Blagoevich and Howdy Doody and handed him the job of rebuilding this program based on the fact that he managed to win a few games at Temple after they were booted out of the Big East and went to a smaller conference. He. Cannot. Coach. Period.

Eddie Johnson and Denzel Perryman are gonna be some beasts!!!!
Posted by: snug954 | September 08, 2012 at 01:11 PM
Every quarterback has the best game of their career against us. I wonder why.
Posted by: F. T. Ardkowalczyk | September 08, 2012 at 01:11 PM
embarrassing...
Posted by: The U is the U! | September 08, 2012 at 01:11 PM
I still love my Canes, but I want ALL the defensive coaches to go. This team is so unprepared!!
Posted by: DarinD | September 08, 2012 at 01:12 PM
Playing a basic strong side saftey and corner and they just split them. Most basic defensive coverage plans available.
Posted by: Joejackson | September 08, 2012 at 01:12 PM
Have you seen the majority of the team they are true freshman and sophmores. Just having a couple of seniors or juniors in there doesnt help much.
Posted by: Joisey Cane | September 08, 2012 at 01:12 PM
more excuses, its goldies 2nd yr. lets see, saban, meyer, stoops, all in their 2nd yr of taking a lousy team and not just competing, but winning the NC. its just reality, golden is not the coach to bring us back.
Posted by: mikeS | September 08, 2012 at 01:13 PM
...no tangible reason for me not to give up here, but i'm not...zero stops on D could have been expected...no TD's on O, definately not expected.
LETS GO O!!!
Posted by: NJshoreCane | September 08, 2012 at 01:14 PM
Whats pissing me of is how K State is not getting called for holding.
Posted by: Joisey Cane | September 08, 2012 at 01:14 PM
Let this be a lesson to everyone: what works in the Mid-American Conference does not work when you're in the big leagues. We needed to beef up to play with the big boys, and, instead, we went with a snake oil salesman who brought in his own confederacy of dunces and has absolutely torched this program to the ground.
Posted by: F. T. Ardkowalczyk | September 08, 2012 at 01:14 PM
Joisey Cane, that arguement is crazy, look at the U teams that won, it was the underclassmen that caused opposing teams problems.
Posted by: DarinD | September 08, 2012 at 01:14 PM
we look like Savannah State out there on D...The LB's are showing effort, but if the DL doesn't penetrate, the CB's sit in a 2 deep zone, and we keep sitting 6 yards off the line, this won't end...
Posted by: The U is the U! | September 08, 2012 at 01:14 PM
By the way those juniors and seniors arent Golden's.
Posted by: Joisey Cane | September 08, 2012 at 01:15 PM
Missouri State wants to schedule us for their homecoming next year.
Posted by: F. T. Ardkowalczyk | September 08, 2012 at 01:15 PM
Storm Johnson is out there balling today against Ohio st.
Posted by: Tallycane | September 08, 2012 at 01:16 PM
I'm completely baffled. What kind of defensive preparation is going on. Our defense seems so unprepared.
Posted by: Michael L Pratt Sr | September 08, 2012 at 01:16 PM
No Joisey, but he's been coaching them for two years...and scheming for games!
Posted by: The U is the U! | September 08, 2012 at 01:16 PM
Novel idea...blitz the linebackers!
Posted by: The U is the U! | September 08, 2012 at 01:17 PM
Hey DarinD maybe if Golden would do a Johnson or Erickson and pay to play. We would be better, but he doesnt want to go that route.
Posted by: Joisey Cane | September 08, 2012 at 01:17 PM
What was the point spread on this game. 70??
