Gameday blog: Canes at Kansas State

The Miami Hurricanes will be taking on 21st-ranked Kansas State at noon this afternoon Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. The game can be seen on FX.

Our Susan Miller Degnan is there to cover the game. I will be here at home watching the game on TV like most Canes fans. Feel free to participate in our CoverItLive.com chat below. All you need to do is sign in with your email address.

LAST WEEK: The Canes are coming off a 41-32 win at Boston College in the opener where they played a dozen true freshmen and rotated a total of 25 players on defense. The freshmen hardly looked as bad as the defense. Duke Johnson earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors after dashing for 135 yards and 2 TDs on just seven carries. Right tackle Ereck Flowers graded out at 94 percent and receiver Malcolm Lewis hauled in four catches and scored a touchdown. Defensively, UM forced three turnovers including a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown by middle linebacker Denzel Perryman. But UM gave up more than 500 yards on defense (including 441 through the air, 3rd most in school history) and blew coverage schemes several times

K-State, which beat UM 28-24 at Sun Life Stadium a year ago, struggled for three quarters against FCS opponent Missouri State last weekend, leading just 9-6 before going on a 42-3 run over the final 22 minutes of the game. Junior running back John Hubert picked up 95 of his 152 yards on 12 carries on a long touchdown run. Tramaine Thompson returned a punt 89 yards for a score, giving K-State their 82nd non-offensive TD since the 1999 season, tied for most in the country with Virginia Tech. Quarterback Collin Klein, who lit up UM a year ago and whom Golden referred to as the best running QB in the country Tuesday, finished 19 of 28 for 169 yards, 2 TDs against Missouri State. The Wildcats gave up 323 yards through the air to Missouri State, but were pretty stingy on run defense (95 yards on 26 attempts).

INJURIES/SUSPENSIONS: The Hurricanes come into the game relatively healthy (only DT Curtis Porter and LB Raphael Kirby are out among those listed on the two deep). Backup defensive tackle Luther Robinson (personal issues) did not make the trip. The Wildcats have three players listed as questionable: OL Nick Puetz (foot), OLB Boston Stiverson (foot), TE Andre McDonald (personal issues). Puetz is the starting left guard. McDonald and Stiverson aren't listed on the two-deep.

They got lucky last week. It's only going to get worse when they face g.t. and f.s. and v.t. and virginia etc. You get it. This team is a joke!

Orlando, probaply both.

Wow im actually excited about the INT.

Hurrican'ts and Deadfins will be lucky to combine for 4 wins this year. I hate this.

Had enough of Colin Klein!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Insult is par for the course on this blog apperently.

2 things... Great play by McGee, and how many times are they gonna show this stupid ass Doug Flutie hailmary play?

Pete, I'm not embarrassed, I'm disappointed and feel the pain of our guys.
When you get legitimately beat by what appears to be a REALLY superior team, how can you be embarrased?
We get beat by Bethune-Cookman next week>>.THEN I'm embarrased.

mr pratt, what i have coached or not does not matter, any football fan can look at this game and the games of last yr and see the same game plans. no changes. it is what it is. lousy

Boy, Duke no hands.

Who would have thought "football town Miami" would ever be at rock bottom with the current state of the Dolphins and the UM football program? This hurts to watch.

and even BC said it last week, they were prepared from LAST yrs game films. no changes on defense.

Looks like Duke let the publicity get to him a little. hang in there man....

Hey Linder y D*** Head

I see why they had to go quick passes with Morris... holds the ball way too long if play is not designed for a short pass.

I hope these young coaches improve.

I must forget this game, as tomorrow my Fins are prolly going to get the same treatment from the Texans.
I can't handle the present and the past piling on me tomorrow. haha.

I meant, Hey Linder you know better D*** Head.

If we can score a TD, onside kick it.

Dirty play by Mueller. Should have tossed his as#.
1st penalty all day for KSU...either they're extremely disciplined, or as usual, we're getting a bit of the shaft.

Imagine Jacory taking that hit??

Greg, Morris is going to be one sore mother tomorrow through Wednesday.
That was a late hit as well.
Jacory would have split in 2 with that hit.

Like I said, FT, they have NOT quit. The defensive just is completely outmanned and out schemed.

Great playcall coming out of the timeout. This program is an embarassment. Bottom 10 in the NCAA.

Seams like a tun of confusion coming out of a timeout. That is a coaching problem and not a talent problem.

Argh, that same stupid roll out to the left! Morris is right handed...that play has lost yardage both times in the red zone.

Morris should have scored, but the receiver out there had no clue.

i do need a sedative. disappointment all over. the turd pig disappears and then the turd jim gallo appears.

at least we changed the field position. if we cant score, we can change something.

IMAWriter thats what Ive been saying. Somthing stinks in Denmark, and I dont mean the Canes.

so much for that

Keep in mind, MISSOURI STATE kept Kansas State to a 9-9 tie until late in the third quarter.

We are worse than Missouri State.

Fire the Tie.

Remember that sadly we should have had lamar, streeter, b Washington, and olivier playing this year!

I dont understand with all those running plays qb runs there havent been any penalty call on KSU

Chickalo is getting his booty kicked at DE turned in and muscles out.

I think its cute watching kids coaching kids...

when they said fear the tie, i didn't know they meant his own teams fans.

Joisey, as much as I'd love to to think it's the officials that are beating use, that's clearly not the case.

However, we CLEARLY have problems in the red zone, and that is a coaching problem.
Last week and this, some truly head-scratching play calls.
We're depending on Morris to do too much.
Quick throws, a draw play, etc, not Morris running around having to make decisions with 3 guys coming at him.

I am not impressed by Al Golden at all. This team is regressing from last year. Are we even in the top 50. To put it in perspective: Are we the 5th team in the State.
1. FL State
2. Florida
3. South Florida
4. UCF
5. Miami

They are down there with FIU and FAU.

I was hoping the canes would be a respectul and give me a reason to look forward to football on the weekends. However, based on what I am seeing we better be ready for Bethune Cookman next week and I would not be shocked if we lose. Man this sucks!

Third and goal, forth and goal. We have talented running backs, and receivers. So we get Norris running twice? Did he not remember Jacory Embarresed from last year on the last play. Get a new offensive cordinator now!

22 its time for the benvch for him.

They are clooering the people DE and outside LBs.

The D play calling is ridic****. Forgot how to spell it.

man, and we still neet to play virginia tech and florida state

Golden and staff are getting a lesson in coaching.

why not just play everyone. the experience might? make a difference down the road.

UCF and S Florida have yet to prove it against REAL competition consistently.
Miami still 3rd, or maybe 2nd, as UF not the Tebow UF.

Fans, lets put this game behind us, enjoy next week's victory, such as it its, and hopefully our defense will mature, play smarter and quicker, and the schemes will be more aggressive.
Bend not break is not UM's way.

Oh how I miss Bill Young's defense. Keep defensing D'onofrio Golden and you'll be gone before long.

hurting big tim: exactly, who would have ever though Miami teams would sink this low. Its funny when SOBE went from seniors and rocking chairs to clubs and salsa music...teams went down hill.....lets blow up SOBE and bring back Biscayne dog track, Wolfies and the pier, lol

Orlando - FIU is better than we are right now. #6 in the state. And dropping.

d'onofrio will just blame the players
