« UM Canes WR Malcolm Lewis "done'' for season; Punter Dalton Botts has sprained ankle | Main | Quick UM Canes recap from today's press conference with Golden: Not so good on Denzel, iffy on Dalton, good on some others. »

New UM Canes Depth Chart with your Monday morning coffee: Seantrel Henderson now a co-first-team starter

Good morning.

Miami just released its newest depth chart on the heels of that impressive win over Georgia Tech and heading into North Carolina State week.

* Seantrel Henderson is now listed as the co-first-team left tackle with Malcolm Bunche.

* Ben Jones, who coach Al Golden said had a really good game and graded a 90 percent at right tackle against the Yellow Jackets, is now co-first-team right tackle with Ereck Flowers.

* Rashawn Scott takes the place of starting wide receiver Malcolm Lewis, who is out for the season with the ankle injury he sustained Saturday.

* Jake Wieclaw is still listed as a backup to injured punter Dalton Botts (sprained ankle, but not high-ankle sprain, according to Golden), though I doubt Botts plays Saturday. Again, we'll see. Also, Golden told us last evening that young kicker Matt Goudis has punted better than Jake in practice. He didn't do that well in his only punt Saturday, but it was his first shot.

Someone needs to keep asking the Canes who they are playing this week. Hint: It ain't Notre Dame.

NC State is 3-1, too. So, someone needs to tell the Canes that NC State can play for real. And the Canes better strap on the pads and shoes real tight and stick to the same formations on offense and defense they have been winning with.

And keep getting in better shape. Good conditioning prevents injuries, too.

Sue Sue,

When did Kelvin Cain get put on the line? Wasn't he a LB?

is nc state at home? great fight sat .... i live in atl and nobody is talking about it...they are shocked...but still mo love for canes...i prefer it that way...let us prove it on the field young men!

whats the status with denzel perryman?

Tough game coming up. The GT win was a tremendous confidence booster. This team has heart and is lead by a coach with heart and passion as well. Gotta love it. No quit in these guys! They are involved and fighting hard...

Now it's up to us, the fans, to stop whining about concessions, parking, so much to do in Miami (blah, blah) and a noon game time and get out to Sun Life and show these guys some love!

Come on, bring an ice bag, UM has something really positive going on. Let's show our support at what is likely to be a tough ball game! Be there for the walk before the game.

Stop the NC State QB. Pressure gets his attentioon and he is not that mobile. Keep our passing game going. And Duke will have a big game!

IT'S GREAT TO BE A MIAMI HURRICANE!

There's no reason for UM to get a big head after Saturday's win. We know this team still has problems, especially on defense. Most, if not all remaining games will be a struggle for this young team. The kids have to stay humble and keep their focus.

I appreciate the improvement in our team this year over the past several years. Our team is stronger, more determined, has more stamina and is better prepared for gametime. Having been a fan of the U since the Miami - FSU game in the Orange Bowl in 1953. I've witnessed all the good and bad years we've had. I like the progress our team has shown this year and barring terrible NCAA penalties, I think next year will be our breakout year. There is a lot of room for improvement but it feels good to savor the progress we've made. It is always GREAT to be a 'CANE. Particular salute to our Coach. It does go without saying that he has done a tremendous job with the team in tough situations. We have the right man for the job. Fans can question a Coach, players worth their salt.. don't.

I admit that I didn't really expect this team to come back against GT. Nor did I expect this team to come back against Boston College. They won 2 close games they could have lost. This offense is good enough to score against anybody in the ACC. The defense is still a work in progress, but I need to see more on defense.

I meant strap on the leather helmet.

don't comment about the Canes unless you go to the games and support this team. All U people call the radio shows and post on blogs but don't show up the game. Will all my true Canes fans stand up and show up to the game on Saturday. C A N E S!!!!

It is hard to come off an emotional high on the road in the backyard of GT and come away with a WIN..but it felt good..
First 1/4 The 'U'
Second 1/4 GT
Third 1/4 Even
Fourth 1/4 The 'U'
Overtime the 'U' the Win.
More defense, settle into an uptempo game, accuracy and good decisions by Morris, with James, Clements, and Duke very much involved in a contrlled running paced game, and we have a good chance of keeping it close and walking away with a win...4-1
One thing we do not need are more injuries. We need Wieclaw and Goudis to step up. We can win against NCSt.
Go 'Canes Always

Vaughn Telemaque lost his starting spot? I dont think he even checked in against GT. What a disappointment...

Stay focused Canes!! Don't look past NC State...

What's the status of Denzel Perryman's injury?

Michael: Cain is one of the most versatile players on the defense, but the DC doesn't want to use him. He's the perfect schematic player at DE or LB. I feel bad for Lewis, he can play.

The offense has no problems. But the defense cannot go on like this and expect the O to bail it out every time. I saw a lot of poor tackling, bad positioning and just plain lack of a will to do something. McGee's run down was good, but that play could have been prevented.

UM did not win this game, GT lost it.

NMBCane: Telemaque is off to a very disappointing year. The secondary looks lost and he is not providing any kind of leadership. I don't know if he's hurt or what but I didn't even notice that he was in the game.

The DC has to find a way to play Cain.

Telemaque didn't play because he's not fully recovered from his knee problem. Look for him against NC State if he's fully recovered.

b-zo your most likeky the worst. stay at home wuss who never has been to any game, not even HS. the pack will rule

I don't think
the Canes can stay focused week after week,
the coaches are worth a plugged nickel,
the fans are worth a GD,
the whole school sucks,
miama is a gangster, drug town,

and i am jealous of the brilliance of the real canefan'72. He is my hero and i would gladly let him have his way with me, the women in my family, and my pet sheep.

The pack will rule?
LMAO. Poor troll has no idea about what REAL wolfpack fans say.

Vaughn Telemaque lost his starting spot? I dont think he even checked in against GT. What a disappointment...

lol @ this comment.. He is still hurt.

The Curse wingnut is up at 4 in the morning obsessing over the Canes and making his daily, stupid prediction of UM doom. Nice call numbnuts! LMAO @ you!!!

The Curse of Art Kehoe at 4:48 AM September 22, 2012

This one will be over by halftime. A veritable laugher. Just try to keep GT under 400 yards rushing. Miami does have the 102nd ranked rushing defense, surrendering a dreadful 4.2 yards/carry, while GT has the #3 nationally ranked rushing offense with 374 yds/game.

UM is a 14 point dog. Ouch. Could we see the historic 472 yard mark surpassed?

The pack sucks and only ignorance speaks of the u like that keep being jealous

I count 35 to 37 sophomores and freshmen in the two deep. The excuse that this team isn't an excuse at all. I would call this team being young and lacking experience a fact.

20 of those sophomores and freshmen are on the defensive side of the ball. Those of you ripping on Coach D should really pull your heads from butts. He's doing an amazing job considering what he has to work with. Dan Sillyho and all of you haters need to either STFU or be patient and watch these kids grow up. Scheme and coaching has nothing to do with it.

Let's go Canes!

Let's see, Miami has played three teams who excel at and live by rushing the football. Gee, I wonder why a young defense with no experience or depth would be ranked so low in rush defense when they played two teams on the road that are among the nations elite at rushing the football?

There's lies, damn lies, and then there's stats. Our fans post these stats as if they mean something. I see a young team that is 3-1 and leads the coastal division when everybody picked them to fail. The coaches so far are exceeding expectations. The fans once again are a complete failure.

@dbc
Excellent rallying cry for our fickle fan base. Though it is true that this is Miami fun-in-the-sun Florida, we still can find time to attend a Canes game in support on the ground level of what I think is something special developing!
I for one am at every home game, as are likely most here.
To all our other Cane brothers and sisters, get on board!
We've got a great coach and some extremely talented, determined, and well conditioned players!

GO CANES, BEAT NC STATE!!!

Couldn't say it any better myself. Great job!

It's funny how our fans pass judgement by watching a 3 hour game on their tv set. Are they in the film room with the Players? Have they evaluated the learning curve of our young players? Are they out at practice watching who translates what they see on film to the field? Do they quiz the players and ask them what their assignment is in situation downs?

Just because you watch games does not make you a coach. Please stop. You make yourselves look dumb especially to those of us that have played, studied film, and understand assignment football. These kids in no way can remember everyone of their assignments. I don't think you understand how confusing it can be when you're only in your 4th game of the season facing a team you'll never see that offense again until next year.

Stop pretending to be an expert just because you've watched games your whole life. This is why it is extremely tough for players to talk football with the common fan.

I wish I wasnt stuck in GA and back in SFLA. I would be at every game! I am proud of this team and love watching them grow from week to week! Golden is a great man and coach! I love what he is doing with this team! When the playoffs start, Miami will be in the mix!!!

Everybody's entitled to their opinion on here no matter how obscene or ridiculous. While I'm completely elated I'm still not seeing the on the fly adjustments or the ability to communicate it to the players on offense and especially defense. I was shocked to see the middle screen on the James late TD. Would love to see 2 TE run formations, short passes to FB and more seam routes to make safeties make decisions. 36 straight points on the defense continues to show the inability of this DC. Stunts and blitz packages are not too difficult for these kids and would allow use of more personnel. These kids have more talent than these coordinators can teach. The Gaytors and FSU are rolling and we have to bring in professional coordinators to combat their talent advantages and keep us from falling behind in recruiting the top talent. People the oil light is on and we need the best engine and body guys in the business if we expect to compete in "Daytona"

Very happy to see guys like davon johnson and mike james step up and deliver. Couldnt be happier for the program and Golden. That being said, the D Coordinator is still one of the worst ive ever seen. Im not here to bash him personally. I dont know the guy. But it is certainly fair to question his soft zone approach to defensive playcalling. He has never adjusted to anything an offense has thrown at him. He blames the kids for "Blown assignments last year...then this year its...blown assignments. Perhaps your assignments are not right for the athletes you have at your disposal. I never...never...never thought id see the day our corners played 10-15 yards off the line of scrimmage. It makes sense that tracy had words with donofrio. I dont blame the boys for being consistently out of place. THats not youth...thats every offensive coordinator in the country having your number. GO back to the first game against maryland. Hes been getting outcoached since day 1. I hope im wrong. I hope im just not a genius like donofrio and i cant see the progress...i hope we ball out and get back to our identity as a defense first team. But i dont think im wrong. I think donofrio refuses to admit his soft approach simply doesnt work outside of the MAC. Stop being so scared to give up the big play and let these boys eat. 4-3, man up and let them go hunt. THats how i feel. I may be wrong, but its just an observation.

Lets see if goldens decisions are worthy of him taking over this team....lets see what he does with his DC. At the rate we are racking up yards against soon youll need a stewardess.....how about the OC play calling...exciting right. Also the #4 team FSU in the country as 8 more jr/sr on the roster vs us. They are all freshman and sophmores....so enough with the "this team is young" stuff. Im not a player, Im a fan that expects alot more than some green pea sitting in his dorm smoking weed. I am not Golden fan. I would have looked harder and taken more time rather than rushing the decision. But he has a chance to prove himself and is getting his 2 million. He got 80% of his targeted recruits.....so lets see how he handles his defense going forward

ugocane: FSU has only 8 more (jr/sr) combined than us. They are play the same young guys. We see if it is a process. Wins are all that matters. Prediction as long as the current DC is there. Miami does not have a winning season. I see it already in the statistics. Lets see whos right, shall we. Dosent matter who Golden hugs or how many tissue you use. This is how seasons are won:
1. Miami defense = 1814 yards @453 avg
2. NCS = 1300 yards @325
3. FSU = 736 @184
Contenders are under 1000 at this point....
Alabama = 185
LSU = 199
Miami remaining: current defensive standings
NCS = 325
FSU = 184
ND = 291
NC = 322
VT = 328
Virginia = 407
Sfla = 384
where do you think the term defenses win games....put the bong down and go to class

Tampacane,

How are you not seeing on the fly adjustments? GaTech made adjustments and went on their 36 point run. Coach D made adjustments and shut them down there on out. You don't see adjustments because you have made your mind up and will never allow yourself to see whats right in front of your face.

As for attendance, the Miami fans suck at attendance just like they suck at evaluating coaching staffs. There is zero excuse to miss any of the 6 home games this year. Did any of you catch that? There's 6 days out of this entire year to show up and support your team. There's 359 other days in the year to do whatever else it is you clowns do. Show up and get your butt in the seats and support this young team that is fighting tooth and nail to win right now.

As for the dude complaining about ticket and parking prices? GTFOOH! You can put your tickets and parking pass on a payment plan. Just because you failed to plan doesn't mean you couldn't have had great seats for 6 home games.

For a bunch of people who claim the coaching staff shouldn't make excuses about a young team with no experience all I see is whining and excuse making out of this bunch.

I expect it though because I know how dumb most of you are. Yes, I would like to biggie size my combo meal fools.

cool cat- If there was a Heisman trophy for the dumbest comments about Miami football, you'd have the trophy the last three years and you are well on your way to winning this years.

"Miami didnt win this game, GT lost it"

OK. If you win someone has to lose correct? So Miami won and GT lost correct? Ok so what is your point, or are you so distracted by the roicket you are building that you cant make sense?

Let me give you a couple of examples of how Miami won:

438 yds passing by Morris
4 TDs by Mike James
ONLY 270 rushing yds by one of the top rushing teams the last 5 years
Miami puts over 600 yds of offense on an Al Groh Defense full of potential NFLers including stud Jeremiah Attachou

A key defensive stop on 4th down and 6 inches by the D
AND DESPITE:

Horrible referreing like that ghost call that someone bumped into a referee that gave GT a first down.

Despite the emotional shock of seeing a brothers ankle snap in half

Despite the fact that they were playing away in hostile territory

Despite the fact that they gave away a 19 point lead followed by a very dumb fumble by Dorsett that would have given Miami potentially 3-7 more points.

Whgere then, did GT lose the ball without Miami having anything to do with it?

MrMia,

Coach D will go down as one of the best DC's this program will have ever had by the time he leaves. I've watched 10 years of a base 4-3 Tampa Two get burned left and right while zero adjustments are ever made. Just wait until the defense grows up and has experience. Being able to show multiple fronts in a conference with so many varieties of offenses is going to be huge. That 3 man front that idiot Canesfan 72 keeps bashing is what the NFL is running. This is NFL U correct? Yes, it's taking some time to install this defense because it is complicated. Once the boys get it offenses are going to get shut down.

If we had that Temple defense when Golden and Coach D left last year we would have won the ACC.

Defense gives up 453 average yards per game against nobodys but KSU....and these fans think there are adjustments.....thats funny

Jim Gallo,

FSU has played two teams of the weak sisters of the blind and poor, Wake Forrest, and Clemson. Wake has shown their new QB isn't ready and Clemson was throttling FSU until they finally adjusted and out manned them. How many yards are you expecting most of those crappy teams to have put up against them?

How could you even mention Bama in year #5 or #6 with coach Saban? Do any of you clowns ever sit back and think about what you post before you make your stupid comments and compare apples to oranges?

Let's compare Bama's two deep to Miami's two deep on defense. You think Bama has 20 freshmen in their two deep? Just STFU and quit looking like a mental midget.

+1

Some of these so-called fans are just dumb. They'll look for any negative to try and justify their stupidity while the coaches are working miracles with these young kids. Davon Johnson was a bust until Golden started coaching him up. Dyron Dye was a DE or a TE until Golden landed him at TE and he's now our best blocking TE. Tommy Streeter was a bust until Golden set him loose. Ben Jones graded out at 90% through 55 snaps this weekend.

Every where I look I see development by a coach who can actually coach. Thank god that moron corch we last had is gone. The only reason he got a shot at HC at Miami is because Paul Dee extended Cokers contract. That's just another topic our fans are clueless about. Idiots want to tell us Miami doesn't pay their coaching staff but yet Coker was the highest paid HC in CFB. Golden is getting paid very well and he wins he will get a nice raise.

Jim Gallo,

There were no adjustments against GaTech? You're an idiot. How did Miami shut GaTech down and come back to win without any adjustments as your stupid comments suggest?

Is this where you compare a veteran Bama squad to a Miami squad with 20 freshmen in the two deep? Keep looking stupid Jim!

What's the record again? 3-1? Nobody's but KSU? You mean that KSU team that beat OU this weekend? And the stupidity flows from Jim like diarrhea from a hooker with dysentery. Keep up the hate for Coach D Jim. He will prove you wrong like you always are.

I appreciate the improvement in our team this year over the past several years. Our team is stronger, more determined, has more stamina and is better prepared for gametime. Having been a fan of the U since the Miami - FSU game in the Orange Bowl in 1953. I've witnessed all the good and bad years we've had. I could not have said it better myself, Sir.

GO CANES!!

Some of these comments ate so misguided. You want to critcize this team for not being the Canes of the 80's. We are trying to recover from years of bad recruiting and coaching....just enjoy the process.

FSU has same team makeup with 736 total defensive yards vs Miani with 1814.....right Clemson is weak...you a complete idiot if you think that.

Also:

Golden / 1-11, 4-8, 5-7, 9-4, 8-4, 6-6
33-40 and 23-17 conference with no bowl wins

Coker / 12-0, 12-1, 11-2, 9-3, 9-3, 7-6
60-15 and 34-11 conference with 4 bowl wins

oh not to mention as offensive coordinator for Miami from 1995-2000 where he went 51-20 and 33-9 conference with 4 bowl wins

fuuny thing about statisitcs....cant escape them

I think ill go with coker.....open the window, too much smoke in your dorm room

Walt how can next year be a breakout year with at least 5 lost scolarships and 2 bowl appearences. Next years recruiting is gonna be terrible.

Jim,

Like I said, you're an idiot and your stats are complete BS. FSU has the same makeup? What a load of shyt!

FSU returns 9 starters on offense and defense.

Miami returns 4 starters on offense and 4 on defense but it looks like they include Perryman, VT and Buchanon in those stats and they didn't play against GaTech.

Like I said, you're stats are BS and you're an idiot.

You are quick to show the difference between Coker and Golden but lets compare your stupidity shall we? Coker was handed the keys to a Ferrari and he drove it off a cliff with a trunk full of dynamite. You could see the explosion for miles and miles. He went 12-0 and got fired after 7-6.

Golden was handed a Temple program that was about to end football all together. They were so bad they got booted from the Big East. When Golden took over there were 44 scholarship players on the roster in total. He could barely have a scrimmage when he took over the program. When Golden left his Temple squad beat UCONN by two TD's. That UCONN squad won the Big East and played in a BCS bowl game.

Now let's fast forward to where these coaches are today. Golden was highly sought after and landed at The U. Coker couldn't find a job as a HC until a start up program took a leap of faith on him.

If you want to go with Coker then haul ass from our fanbase and don't let the door hit you on the way out. That Road Runner squad of Cokers needs some fans considering it's a start up program.

If it isn't the Corch Randy Shannon slurpers showing their stupidity it's the Coker idiots. If the Canes under Elmer Fudd were a stock you would have dumped before his last season. It was obvious to anyone with half a brain he had no clue what he was doing and was in over his head by that time. GD it is good to have fist pump and radio gone.

Fightingibis
I hope youre right. But i would bet my paycheck im right. Again theres no reason to get personal. I just happen to see what i see. We are giving up 226 yrds a hame on the ground. Most of that is due to scheme. Our linebackers start so far from the line of scrimmage. Our line drops a 3 man front in 3 rd down situations when we dont have a proper noseguard. We dont have the horses to play his soft zone scheme. It doesnt work. When has he adjusted to the screens...when has he adjusted to the quarterback draws up the middle...when has he played press and put pressure on a team? Never. The same plays we get burned on last week are the same plays we get burned on next week. Thats bad playcalling. I certainly give you every right to speak ypur mind...after all we are all fans who want to see our team do well. But i cannot ever believe that donofrio is going to be the best d coordinator to come out the u. That sir is quite ridiculous. Also...i live in tampa...i saw the tampa 2 crush every opponent for years. Anyways its not like a tampa 2 is the only play out of a 4-3. I hope youre right...go canes

Sorry green pea......go to FSU roster almost identical % of freshman, jr, sr and soph....So let Golden play his sr/jr instead...they are at almost every position on the roster.....cant you even read green pea?

Now those big wins at Temple:

2006 - bowling green
2007 - northern ill, ackron, kent state, miami (oh)
2008 - easten mich, ohio, army (plus some already mnetioned)
2009 - buffalo, SUNY, navy, toledo (plus some already mentioned)
2010 - villanova, central mich and uconn

wow those are some Miami catagory teams....ty so much for the info, lol

Jim Gallo,

The rosters are not almost completely identical. Numbers don't mean squat. Of course freshmen are going to RS's. Where those numbers vary are starters. This year FSU had 9 starters on offense and defense return. Miami has 4 on offense and 4 on defense and as I already stated VT, Perryman, and Buchanon didn't play against GaTech. The breakdown may look the same but the experience and depth sure as hell isn't even close.

When Golden took over at Temple they were THE WORST football program in CFB. Does that compute BS stat man? They had 44 players on a roster that should have 85. By the time Golden left his Temple squad beat UCONN who won the Big East that year and played in a BCS bowl and the Big East asked for Temple to rejoin the conference. That's trending upward. Does that compute moron?

Notice you didn't mention Coker this go around. Coker took over a monster. His first year he won the National Championship because all he had to do was not mess anything up. By the time he left the team played in weedeater bowl and barely got by Nevada. That's trending downward. You follow or this too much for you?

Congrats! You're stupidity far exceeds what I initially thought. You'd think you'd wise up and just stop looking like a fool but in typical Miami bandwagon fashion you'll continue to show just how stupid you can really be.

Jimbo has been at FSU for 6 years. He's been the HC for 3. Yes, FSU is finally looking they turned the corner. Beating Murray State, Charleston Southern, Wake Forrest, and Clemson all at home to open the season showed real balls!

Moron...

Depth chart next game:

Contains 25 jr/sr out of 31 positions. Only 19% are fr/soph...81% are experienced..so where does all this "young" stuff come from? its all BS as always. Look at FSU...almost exact, not to mention all the other top teams in the top 25.

MrMia,

It has nothing to do with scheme or coaching and everything to do with youth and zero experience. Right now this defense is playing back and keeping the play in front of them. As they grow up and gain experience they will get aggressive and blitz more.

You may think a defense should be lights out with 19 true sophomores or younger on the depth chart but I assure you it doesn't work that way. The only fix is time and experience. Ed Reed wasn't Ed Reed until he hit his junior year. Has everybody forgotten when Butch marched the youngsters into Syracuse territory and they proceeded to pound those baby Canes 66-13? Then stupid fans like you clowns flew a plane over the OB with a banner that read "From National Champs to National Chumps, Thanks Butch!"? I remember it like it was yesterday. You clowns were wrong then and you'll be wrong again.

You shouldn't go betting your paycheck, your family is going to need every dollar menu deal they can get their hands on judging by your posts on here.

Jim Gallo,

Once again you are full of shyt. There's 25 Juniors/Seniors on the two deep. There's 6 Juniors/Seniors on the 1st string offense and 6 Juniors/Seniors on the 1st string defense.

Let's not forget most of these Seniors and Juniors you speak of were labeled busts or were never going to amount to anything until Golden started coaching them up and getting the most out of them. These were the players from those 6-6 teams you like to mention. The future is the true sophomores, RS freshmen, and true freshmen. There's 55 players added to the roster in 18 months under Golden's watch. Stay tuned hater! These coaches will have you change your screename shortly.

Jim Gallo your eyes are turning brown...
