Perryman expected to be out for Georgia Tech; Duke named ACC Rookie of Week again; Seantrel could win a starting job this week

Barring a huge surprise, the Miami Hurricanes will be without starting middle linebacker Denzel Perryman when they play at Georgia Tech Saturday.

Perryman has a deeply bruised high ankle sprain -- according to someone close to him -- that will keep him out at least a week if not longer. He has a protective boot on his ankle and will be reevaluated later this week when the swelling goes down.

All coach Al Golden told the media Monday morning was that Perryman didn't practice and that he didn't know his condition.

UM will likely turn to junior Jimmy Gaines in the middle this week. He and sophomore Gionni Paul took the majority of the snaps at middle linebacker Monday.

Georgia Tech has scored more than 50 points in back-to-back games for the first time since 1936. Against on Saturday, the Yellow Jackets ran for 461 yards and passed for another 133.

> Freshman running back Duke Johnson was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday. Johnson scored four touchdowns in Saturday's 38-10 win over Bethune-Cookman and ranks second nationally in all-purpose yards.

Jorge Milian of the Palm Beach Post and I spoke to offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch at length today about how he plans to balance his desire to use Duke often in his offense versus protecting him and making sure he's around for the duration of the season. So far, Fisch said he hasn't had to overuse Johnson because Mike James (5.2 yards per carry) and Eduardo Clements are doing a good job. He estimated Johnson got in for about 35 snaps Saturday. I'll have more on Fisch later.

> Golden said offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson is in the mix for a starting job this week -- at left or right tackle -- after having his best game for UM since Golden has been around. Fisch said Henderson continues taking most of his reps at right tackle in practice, but he could start at left tackle. Coaches don't see it as a big deal that Henderson isn't taking reps on the left side. Henderson got in on 52 snaps and graded "very high" according to Fisch.

> While safety Vaughn Telemaque remained out of practice in a big, bulky knee brace Monday, there was some positive news. Freshman linebacker Raphael Kirby and receiver Allen Hurns were out there participating in practice. The real test, though, will be Tuesday.

UM didn't do any hitting Monday. Players wore shorts, jerseys and hats during Monday's practice. Golden said he wanted their bodies to take a break.

God Speed D. Perrymen you will be missed.

UM needs to keep Perryman out until he's fully recovered. This is a nagging injury and will reoccur easily if he comes back too soon. Players can lose an entire season if the injury is mishandled. He could easily miss 3 to 4 games. He's too valuable not to be cautious.

Time for gioanni Paul to step up!

Perryman is out?! F*^K! Can someone please give me some good effing news (Duke aside) about the team?!

And I thought Georgia Tech was gonna beat us silly before smh lol! We really are going to get worked without Denzel but this type of injury needs time to heal properly. He needs at least three weeks off. This team has to suffer growing pains anyways so this will be good experience for the next man up.

We are in serious trouble.

We have had GT's number for a few years now.....this week will be the week they "pay us back"....wish I had a better feeling but....our Canes will not win this one this week.

horrible news, the gameplan has to be running the ball and controlling the clock, limiting GT's offensive possesions.

The Canes have had the right blueprint for stopping GA Tech the past two seasons. Can these players execute? The loss of Perryman is a hugh blow. I believe the middle linebacker is the most important position to countner GA Tech's offense. I think the Canes will lose but I'm not expecting a blowout.

The triple option can be stopped only if our D-Line can penetrate the line of schrimage and disrupt the play before they begin. Good luck CANES, go get em.

Perryman out = 500 rushing yards for GT. This one could be uglier than K State.

stop the FB dive...it predicates their offense...I am in ATL...They have already chalked this one up as a W....Let's show them that we may be young...but we can fight with them! How about frickin' Morris looking like the starting QB that earned the job...and run some QB draws, etc...their defense is improved, but I think we can score on them...my concern - as is everyone's...can we stop or limit the big plays from their attack? STOP THE FB dive...if we cannot, they will run on us for 400+ yds...they will key on DUKE...he's no longer a mystery...the OL needs to step it up...I thought was supposed to be our strength this yr??? Like I said, talk in ATL (RADIO, TV, etc...)we got this one..its only Miami...LETS SHOW THEM WE CAN AND WILL FIGHT FOR 4 QTRS!!!...We have talent. God Bless all my Canes! and a speedy recovery to Denzel Perryman...

OlSage is dead on the key to stopping GT is penetration, unfortunately we now have the worst collection of DT's in Miami's history, well at least the last 30 years. Also Jimmy Gaines is a good kid but he's not the answer. His reaction time is slow, and he can't shed blocks, he's just not that talented.....go with Gionni and pray that we can outscore GT.

Will fly into ATL friday nite, alot of smack comin from those bumble bees, think this will be an easy game. Lets get this win and stay in first in the Coastal!! Go Canes!!!

The key to victory in Atlanta is being able to respond when Tech scores. This is a huge game for the Yellow Jackets, and Bobby Dodd will be sold out. Offense can't afford to a bunch of 3 and outs, and defense must must get off of the field.

"I tell ya, we don't get no respect"

Hopefully Gionni steps up like he did last week because we have seen Gaines and he is nothing more than a back up. (ex. Kacy Rogers) Our LB core has a chance to be really good next year, Denzel, Johnson, Gionni, Kirby, Terry, etc.

Did Cain did lost in all this? Henderson should sit some more, I don't think the OL problems are that dire.

The option of GT will define what this defense and the DC is about. Gaines reacts too slowly. When 'Ole Uncle Luke said Duke was the best ever at UM, he might have called that one right. This kid can play. Now use Duke to develop the passing game.

Morris needs to tuck the ball and run...he has good speed, and field awareness, instead of trying to read and overthrow, missed timing etc.Get your game back and add another dimension.

Fake the hand off, keep the ball and go..It will also put the defense on their toes, to address that QB mobility...
I think with a game plan to prevent Al Groh and his guys from teeing off on us, we need to mix it up.

The offense will have to help carry our defense in this game more than ever with Perryman out..
I feel for the guy especially knowing that he has improved and is a leader..

We need to change up a lot and show GT a few new wrinkles that they have not practiced for..
Coach um up Coach and I hope injuries do not become a major factor.
Go 'Canes Always,

The OLine will determine the outcome of this game. They need to open holes for the running backs. If there was ever a game to win time of possession it is this one. Morris and the receivers need to have their best game. Score quick.
As always
IT'S GREAT TO BE A MIAMI HURRICANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The U is going to get beat like a drum by GA Tech. Thank God there won't be many in the stadium to see it. Actually, they should only play teams from 2nd tier conferences. At least that way they may have a chance of winning.

Ouch! we are nearly a two touchdown underdog this week. I wonder if we will ever be favored this season LOL.

If you saw Stanford's offense power, baffle and pound USC's defense then you would agree after the dust settles from this NCAA crap then he (Stanford's OC) should be our Head Coach. They don't use the excuse of being an academic institution. We need Mr. White (Pulp fiction) to come in and do a quick fix of this program. I really like Golden, but he is too committed to the Buddy system and our program needs "Professional" caliber O and D coordinator coaches! Would you want the PE teacher teaching your kids Chemistry? Get my point! Gentlemen there is a fire at the front and back doors. We're gonna get fried if this administration doesn't get proactive.

What in the hell makes you think that David Shaw is the answer to our problems. He inherited a team that was loaded from a future hall of fame coach. He did win a big game last weekend and called a good game but Stanford slipped a little last year and once Harbaughs boys are gone then we will see just what he is made of. But until then he hasn't done anything but beat a conference opponent.

WE GOT SOME CANES OVER HERE come on baby canes step up,maybe we can pull something out of our a$*, Morris can't play like he did last weekend.

Need the baby canes to step up. Come duke, gionni, chick, Deon, Tracy, Eric, Phillips, rashawn, etc. Make this your coming out party and show everybody what the future holds!

Oh, jelani we expect big things from you too!

Want to get bigger crowds at UM football games? LOWER the price of parking! $30 is ridiculous, a football ticket is cheaper than that.

Looking good against Bethune-Cookman doesn't mean much against GT. Seantreal could be in for a rude surprise if he starts.

Something has to be done about our defensive schemes, every team that the canes play put up career numbers. We need to blitz and put pressure on the QB.

I disagree Ba/

Jackie Wilson of BCU is a great athlete andhe tried to do the read option several times. Miami's D played more aggressive, and penetrated more. I think it was somewhat of a good rehearsal for GT.

I know GT. There D is aggressive. DEnds are studs. This game will hinge NOT on whether we can slow the triple option down but on whether we canscore on them. Their corners are suspect. Their safeties are OK. We can chuck the ball on them, provided Morris plays smart.

At 6-6 last year you all are telling me that this Defense is that muchworse than last year? NOT buying it. Only SeanSpence was worth anything. Forston was a fat slow lazy punk and didnt do much. The D played well against GT and will do again this year. Limit their possesions. Watch the full back!!!!! Watch the full back. the A back is a little beatle thats hard to tackle- Godigh #25. So tackling in space will be important, especially inthe perimeter.

Watch Duke's carries people. We will need himlater inthe year eg vs FSU. Im serious. At this age they can burn out and get hurt.

Did you see Kansas ST this past weekend?

They were 28 point favorites against N. Texas and only won 35-21! Are you going to tell me that N Texas has better talent than the Canes? NFW! Their coaches came up with a plan to contain K.ST. UM Coaches dont have a plan nor a clue!

We are going to play base D-fense against GT and they will steam roll us. Easy Money GT only favored by 13.5

Go Canes.. Better times are ahead

Even with a solid defense, the triple options scares me. Morris inconsistency scares me. I think the defense will make some big plays and have some key stops, but will we be effective on offense and do more then just give duke the ball and "hope"

LISTEN I'M IN ATLANTA AND EVERYONE FEELS LIKE WE ARE GOING TO GET RAN OVER AND SMASHED BY 30 PTS. THIS IS THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO PULL THE UPSET. WE DO HAVE SPEED AND IF WE STOP THE FULLBACK(A-BACK), MAKE THERE CB TACKLE IN SPACE WE CAN BEAT THEM! THERE IS NO MATCH FOR DUKE SO WHY NOT DEVELOP PLAYS OFF HIM THAT OPENS UP FOR OTHERS. HURNS IS ANOTHER MATCH UP PROBLEM FOR TECH, THERE CB ARE INEXPERIENCED. SO EXPLOIT THEIR WEAKNESSES, CONTROL THE BALL, AND WE PULL THE UPSET. ...MIAMI 27 GA. TECH 17....

All fair comments except for the Idiot who said no one will show up to see us get beat like a drum.
Um, the game is in Ga.

I hope it's not deja vu '08. This may be overstating the obvious but our D has to get off the field. They will go for it on 4th from the 50 yard line- in.

Make them beat us through the air!

We'll have to score 40+ to win this one.

GO CANES!!!

-------------------------------------------------------

I cant believe that KSU was as jacked for the NTS game as they were for our Canes.

Anyway, the comment about "easy money" makes me now feel alot better about our chances,

The bookies never lose!!

GO CANES!!!

The one thing any of the upperclassmen know how to do is stop GT's option. They've done it for several years in a row.

Canes win with defense. If they cannot stop the dive the game is over and I mean all game they have to stop the dive. This will be a blow out unless there is an effort by the entire defense to stay in their slots and not free lance-the long pass will be for the one who they feel will bite. Stay in your game plan.

reality says GT will kick our butts. blessed are those expect nothing, for they shall not be disappointed. a good thing for canes fans to remember this season, to keep the bad thoughts away. both sides of the ball need to improve, alot. GT should have this game in hand by half, unless morris and co. can put points up. GT will score, alot, so must we. go canes

Unfortunately, GT may break the record for rushing yds in a college game. They're not ready yet and on top of it all, injuries are greatly testing their depth. We have been hit especially hard on defense.

41-13 GT is my prediction

good one mike, i think its going to be a few tough years also. but hopefully these young canes can like they said, shock some people.

MOST OF YOU ARE SO CLUELESS ABOUT FOOTBALL. COACH GOLDEN SAID YOUNG NOW ALL YOU DUM A----HAVE THROWN ALL OF THE OLDER PLAYERS UNDER THE BUS. IN TWO YOU SAME A--HOLES WILL BE THROWING THIS CLASS UNDER THE BUS. REAL FANS WILL BE AT THE GAME WIN-LOSE-DRAW. ITS OBVIOUS YOU MOST OF YOU DONT GO TO THE GAMES. IF I WERE A PARENT I WOULD NOT WANT MY SON TO COME TO UM BECAUSE THE FANS ARE FAIR-WEATHER, DONT GO TO THE GAMES AND THREAT THE PLAYERS LIKE S--T.

With Virginia tech losing to pitt, obviously anything is possible, but most likely it will be another very rough day for us canes fans because georgia tech is better than they've ever been and option defense has to be flawless...
One more thing, about Susan asking about noon games, they should not happen in miami Florida, especially not home openers. In places like Columbus against nobody teams they pull 100k, and what does that give them? 8 home games and five weeks in the beginning of the season at home against nobodies for a sure 9 win season...and it can't be undersold that we had just gotten slammed the week before by ksu and fans were not very happy with um to begin with.
But I think I just pointed out how it may be Hurting as greatly to have these noon games. Alabama had little time
To prepare for Arkansas, I think they were ready.

perryman out an kirbys back most likely atleast i hope so cause well need him even though he hasnt seen any live pt besides the scrimmage but i thk if he plays hell fill in just fine and i also like gionni paul as well an eddie johnson has played well also just wish they were all healthy at once but besides that our deline has got to show up once again and they will be getn cut blocked the whole game so i hope the conditioned well an ready to rumble wit the ramblin wreck GO CANES DO WRK BABY DO WRK HURRICANE 4 LIFE#H4L

I'm not convinced that gtech is that much better than us. Va should have lost to PED st and looked absolutely clueless against gtech. If we stop the fullback we have a chance because they can't pass. I think we should be able to pass on them as much as they run on us. I beeilve we were scarred of ksu in manhattan due to our unfamiliarity with them plus they are very physical. I'm not sold on tech just yet. How did vtech lose to lowly pittsburg.I don't like the way our defense has been playing and it's time for the dc to get the job done. If not golden needs to be on the hot seat about that. I like golden but he needs to be accountable for almost 1400 yards in three games. And yes we must be very careful about using duke to much. Te's and tailbacks must contribute more.cleveland ,Clements and James have to give us more than what they are giving.

cdtt, im glad we have fans? like you to tell us how dumb we are. maybe golden will hire you to coach the kids, better yet, you could lead the cheerleaders and get the crowd in the game. ps, can you spell dufus, thats your new name

Golden isn't going to be on the hot seat yet, its year 2. Do you really think we're any better with a new coach? Even a new dc, with a new system doesn't improve this team at all. We had Young as our DC and still got torn apart.

look, jimbo fisher 22-8 and 2 bowl wins right out in 3 years.....brian kelly (ND) 190-66...butch jones (cincinnatti) 43-24....chip kelly 37-6 in just 4 yrs at oregon.....lane kiffin (USC) 27-14 in 4 yes....how about chis peterson (boise state) 74-7...wtf.....some of these bloggers are completely cluless about where Miami should be and who can get us there...it aint his staff..they dont have it....including the people all the way to the top. if UM was a company and the brand sunk to the level it is at...everyone would have been fired! I could go on and on about other teams that within the first 3 yrs are already contenders. Golden has nowhere the mess butch davis had...golden hasnt lost 1 scholarship....BD lost 24, wtf are you talking about. last year miami the defense gave up 4319 yards...were almost at 1500 and were on our 3rd game not to mention we still have the an enormous hill to climb ahead......there is no way statistically we can be better than last year.

Canes will beat GT by 2 touchdowns

DEBBIE: WHEN SOMEONE WITH THE NAME debbie post comments, no one really pays attention because you are more likely a real cheerleader and really don't understand the basis of my comments. Bottom line the fans are dead in miami and would not last in the SEC. Stay in your lane cheerleader.
