Confirmed: UM Canes DT Luther Robinson will not travel to Kansas State -- not good for a position that was already in need of help

Way up in the sky en route to Manhattan, Kansas for Saturday's noon game at No. 21 Kansas State.

Ah, airplane Internet connection -- the marvels of modern technology.

The not so uplifting news: CaneSport.com reported this morning that defensive tackle Luther Robinson will not be traveling to Kansas State, and I just got it confirmed by a UM official who did not want to be identified. Suffice it to say that the UM official is well informed.

The UM official said Robinson "wasn't out there all week, so I don't believe he'll be traveling. He's currently on the team, but his status is unclear.''

I have a feeling Robinson's future with the team is shaky, but don't know what the resolution will be.

CaneSport reported that "apparently, his dad went off on the coaches this week because he thought Robinson should have played more in Boston. ...Apparently, Luther got caught up in it and actually refused to practice at least one day this week. Details beyond that are still sketchy.''

From what I've been told, this is pretty accuurate.

If you recall, coaches wanted Robinson to switch to the offensive line in the offseason, but he emphatically did not want to do that. Then he got into great shape, Coach Al Golden said, and became part of the rotation at D-tackle.

Robinson forced a fumble in UM's opener at Boston College.

On the newest depth chart released Monday morning (two days after Boston College game), Robinson, a 6-3, 288-pound redshirt junior, is listed as a co-backup (along with redshirt freshman Corey King) behind starter Olsen Pierre.

Golden told us Corey King would travel to Kansas State, but he didn't say anything about Robinson.

Good point Real Coach!

Rebuild true! But good coaches know their players, can sense these things and take care of them before they escalate to this level. Golden needs to show his hand but in a way that he does not lose the player or players. Easy? No way but that is why he gets paid the big bucks.

WOW! THIS LUTHER SITUATION FOR THE GOOD OF THE TEAM MUST BE HANDLED CORRECTLY! 1) HE SHOULD BE SUSPENDED FOR A GAME OR TWO BUT NOT THROWN OFF THE TEAM UNLESS HE REFUSES TO APOLOGIZE TO THE COACHES,TEAMMATES AND TO THE ATHLETIC DEPT. IF HE REFUSES TO PRACTICE,WORK HARD AGAIN THAN HE IS GONE! WE NEED FORMER CANE PLAYERS TO TALK TO THIS GUY AND GET HIS HEAD STRAIGHT! AS FOR HIS FATHER HE SHOULD BE THE FIRST TO APOLOGIZE AND REALIZE JUST HOW HIS STUPIDITY COULD HAVE HURT MORE THAN HELPED HIS SON. GIVE LUTHER A CHANCE TO REDEEM HIMSELF BUT WITH A VERY SHORT LEASE. WE WILL BE FINE! CANES 34 K-STATE 20. 2-0....BOOK IT!

You guys are playing K-State today. Do you wonder why K-State is a successful program? Do they get 4 or 5 star players? The answe is no they don't, but they get good players and they coach them up. They have great relationships with the parents, and Coach Synder cares about his kids. Everybody wants their kids to go to a Division one power houses, but are they really best for your kids, the answers is not always yes. Their is more pressure from coaches to succeed. If I had a kid I would want him to go to an environment where winning is important, but it is not the only thing in life. Another examples is injuries, we sometimes need to free up scholarships and kids that get injured are not helping the team, so just use your imagination and the answer is yes, we get them out of the program. College sports is a business, and if you are not helping us win, then you are no use to us. The Hard Reality of Life.

Some advice for parents who have kids in sports. Parents now have a powerful research tool called the web and social media. Coaches fear this as you may not believe. Research former players from the schools that you want to attend. Contact them thru Facebook and not just the star players, but all of them Ask them what they think about the program and the coaches. The more people you talk to the better information you will get on the program. As far as the Luther problem, remember this is a newspaper article and everything is always blown out more than what it really is. This could be a really small incident or something bigger, but if the coach is good they don't want this to get out because it does hurt recruiting.

All you posters are way off base....

Coach G had to react to this situation..
He after all is in control..but as a Leader of any Corp. he has to also take into account 3 things:
1) The severity of the act, 2) the action to be taken, 3) the consequence of the action to the group or organization.

I can see that many of you are making comments without having knowledge of handling people and making Corporate decisions.

Coach G does NOT have depth at any position..we are not a loaded team, we are rebuilding.
Considering the situation, he made the best Corporate decision in not letting Luther travel and the matter is certainly not over. The decision has to be considered based on the act, and how it affects the team short term and long term. Remember we cannot plug in players, they have to be developed so here comes the process.

Like it or not the "throw him off the team " mentality has to be tempered with a redemptive out, so that the player will learn, and the team and other players, will not suffer because of a selfish act.

Settle down everyone, and use Seantrel as an example to see how Coach G handles this..
Coach is a leader and he is also a motivator.Give him room and Cheer for our 'Canes without ripping decisions on which we are not privy to the truth of what occured.

Canefan72 you need to relax..your point is made but don't push..you are going to loose.Coach G and Coach D want to win just like you..so settle down. Agree to disagree and when the 'Canes beat Kan. State eat crow.
Go 'Canes Always

My last comment is about Coach G. He is one of the few good ones left. The university of Miami has a great coach and should do everything in its power to keep him. He cares about the kids, but he does make them accountability for their actions. With everything that has gone on at the U, most coaches would have left the program. Be Happy with Coach G, he is one of the good ones.

I agree insubordination is bad and not tolerable but it keeps happening, that is the problem. You can't just keep throwing these guys off the team. You guys know this problem just did not happen overnight. So Golden needs to put on his listening ears and have a sit down prior to a kid not showing up to practice. I understand some kids just don't get it and will never get it but it is becoming a yearly issue with Miami. IDK the answer but Golden better get some or he will lose the whole team. Because this stuff spreads like wild fire.

Real Coach,

What do you means Luther Robinson isn't an adult yet? He's 21 years old? GTFOOH! This isn't Pop Warner! Luther Robinson was a lazy slob. The only reason he got another chance was because Golden is a master motivator and got the slob to get off his lazy ass and get in shape. Then once the slob finally gets in shape and gets a couple reps and forces a fumble Dadda wants to tell Golden how to captain the ship and his slob tells Golden he isn't going to practice? Well if the parent has every right to get involved slobs life then Golden has every to tell dadda and slob to take their ball and go home!

Considering Robinson isn't on the trip to Kansas would you say Golden or dadda and slob won this temper tantrum?

GD! Where did this entitlement attitude come from? Golden don't play that shyt!

Canefan72,

I see you're nothing but a troll. Are you a Gayturd or a Semenhole? This is where you respond with "Physics tells me that 3 D-linemen can't take on 6 or 7 O-linemen". What kind of a psycho stalks another a message board of a team you're not a fan of? Got some real issues fruitcake.

GoCanes,

These entitlement issues keep coming up because Coker and Randy ran a country club atmosphere where players were recruited to Miami to become great just by putting the U helmet on on Saturdays for a decade. A "meme" attitude was instilled deep within the program. Golden can only recruit so many players per year. He's done an excellent job weeding out the "meme's". Luther Robinson is about all that's left and if his dadda didn't get involved none of this would have gone down IMO.

The formula is so easy. Breed an atmosphere of competition that's so competitive that if you take any plays off or choose to skip practice you lose your spot on the depth chart and watch the cream rise to the top. Luther and his father tried to makes demands that Luther was cream. Golden proved he's shyt out of luck. Better get back to practice Luther. If you don't shut your mouth and work hard for a spot your days of being a Cane are numbered. Your scholarship is renewable annually and Miami doesn't owe you shyt! They're paying big bucks to give you a shot at your dream while giving you a top notch education in the process. Might want to tell dadda to shut his piehole.

Canefan'72 writes on and on but doesn't understand 1 of football's basic plays. Let me try to explain it like I do to my 6 year old daughter:

When you are on D and it is 3rd and long you have 3 basic choices:

1. Play your base defense
2. Bring 5 or more guys
3. Rush 3, drop 8, keep the play in front of you forcing a punt.

She got it on the ist try.

1979 alumni here. I have seen it all and waited since eternity for Miami to come back. Not like some green pea class of 2016. Lets see what happens today Lets give the coaches a chance however Golden is on his 13th game (7-6). His playes all have good experience since at their positions since high school, so stop the BS about being too young. The KSU and Miami rosters are almost identical size/height) Some things to consider: 2010 Clemson 6-7/ 2011 10-4...Baylor 7-6 then 10-3, Kansas Sate 7-6 then 10-3, Michigan 7-6 then 10-3, Cincinati 4-8 then 10-3, Michigan 7-9 then 10-3, Georgia 6-7 then 10-4 just to name a few. So this year no exceptions for a city and team like Miami....were Miami for god sakes. Golden came here with a losing record and the DC had absolutley no experience. Golden and company have to prove it. No more excuses....reuslts only allowed

deanD: All those players were out of control as well. You dont remember like I do...the Texas game, North Carolina game, the fatigues....Hill in the tunnel. Players were out of control at that time even with Johnson and Erickson. Thats what I loved about them. Stop blaming players. Its the coaches job to manage the teams attitude as well. You cant keep losing players....this is very concerning.

luther left cause the coaches told him he was going to be on the scout team
