Good morning.
We got our newest depth chart this morning, two days after UM released another chart minutes before kickoff Saturday at Soldier Field.
Olsen Pierre is back as one of the starting tackles, opposite redshirt freshman Corey King, who made his first start against Notre Dame. Pierre was injured but Al Golden said he will play against North Carolina.
Gionni Paul is starting again at weak-side.
At cornerback, Ladarius Gunter is now listed as the starter, with freshman Tracy Howard and sophomore Thomas Finnie co-backups.
Mike James and Duke Johnson still have an "AND" between their names as co-first-teamers at running back -- as they did when UM released the depth chart before the game.
Seantrel Henderson started at right tackle Saturday. The depth chart says: Ereck Flowers OR Henderson, as it did before the Notre Dame game.
Clive Walford, who had a nice 28-yard catch Saturday on that unforgettable opening drive, is now the starting TE.

SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN

I hate to say this but I am and I hope Golden and his team reads this blog. I say remove Brandon Mcgee & Phillip Dorsett. Dorsett has no business starting after his performace in the Nortre Dame game. I can see 1 or two dropped passes but 4 to 5 come on man! I been reading alot about Roert lockhart I say throw him in. Or better yet allow Davon Johnson the opportunity to start. He deserves it I think he catches the ball and he tries to make something happen all the time. So why not? Fire the entire Defensive staff 500 plus yards a game is piss poor coaching. Mark D couldn't stop a middle school offense. Da%^ shame how bad our defense looks this season.

Was at the game. Can't believe I froze my arse off to watch that pitiful performance. Pathetic, brutal and unwatchable. The only saving grace was Soldier Field. Awesome venue to watch a game.
Posted by: canzfan | October 08, 2012 at 10:43 AM
Canzfan bro I know u was disgusted watching that mumbo jumbo. I know Edgerrin James and Clinton Portis was like man what the Hell is this! Man If I was running that rock I would of done this and that. I know they was shaking their heads @ Golden and his crew.

Until we get some real defensive lineman. Miami's defense will continue to look bad.
Posted by: Coach C | October 08, 2012 at 10:47 AM
Had a great time at the game Saturday, until the ass whooping that is...
No excuses, Notre Dame dominated both lines, the tempo, and the game.
Fortunately for UM their two embarrassing blowout losses have been out of conference, and FSU and Va Tech are beatable!
UNC's up second in a GREAT October of UM football!

I live in Iowa and went to my first canes game live.......man was it dissspointing! I'm a believer in golden but man I just wanted us to compete! What I would give to have wannsted or Shannon back at d coordinator!!!!!!! Our defense is getting worse!!!!! And doorsett is good man!!! Hes not perfect but he will bounce back! We should recruit d lineman only lol!!!!!!
Posted by: mat shiltz | October 08, 2012 at 11:04 AM
@Matt Shiltz Dorsett maybe good peeps but you can't throw away a game like he did. He killed the momentum a few times. Him and Jon Feliciano I already knew we was going to loose when I seen them mess up. And FYI Stephen Morris when u see a receiver having a bad game like that please stop throwing to him. Try someone else. I seen that Rashawn Scott was ready to do somethings so did Davon Johnson. He should hit the tight ends more.
everyone is killing us with our own strategy. Tight ends we throw to our tight ends once or twice a game. What kind of mess is this Jedd? Smh fire the entire staff and start from scratch. Bring back Don Soldinger, Randy Shannon,Dave W,Butch Davis and Jimmy Johnson for A.D we would have the U back in no time. I see why our old A.D Eichorst hauled a#$. We're fixin to get hit hard with a sanction thanks to Pee Wee.

They just don't have the talent to play they way they want to play.
-You can't coach someone who has no talent.
-You can recruit the best talent when under ncaa investigations.
-If you were a top player would you go to Miami due to the ncaa
So until this NCAA thing is over they will continue to have recruiting problems which means they will have to take players that just don't have the ability to play at this level and if they cant play at this level then you cant coach them to be better.

Does any one know if North Carolina will debut new uniforms against us Saturday? I hope not since I believe the ND unis had a lot to do with our performance, those things were so ugly it must have thrown us off our game. Had to be the uniforms.
Let's get back to playing in the ACC, where we belong!
Posted by: delUsionalcane | October 08, 2012 at 11:31 AM
I agree with most of you. We have some talent but the holes in our game are huge. We can only compete with the best when we are flawless. We need to get stronger on both sides of the line. Heavy bench squat and deadlifts. We get blown off the ball, 340 pound man should be lifting alot more than these kids are. Any one can get stronger thers no excuse. I really thought that chickillo would be more explosive by now. Good luck canes lets play mean and we can win.
Posted by: Jbarry | October 08, 2012 at 11:52 AM
Fire the defensive staff at the end of the season !! Bring in Greg Williams !!! We need more size and athletic D lineman. Defensive line stunts and better schemes in the secondary. Run the ball Fisch And throw to the tight end !!!!!

THE MIAMI HERALD
After the most recent Manny Navarro/Miami Herald UM hit piece (yesterday) let's hope the Canes administration never again allows a Miami Herald reporter to step foot on their campus. Although, they have proven it would require a Seeing Eye Dog for their gallant reporters to even find the UM campus (more on that later).
Navarro and several other intrepid reporters at the Miami Herald have been attacking the Hurricanes or diluting their accomplishments on and off the field for many years and yesterday’s article is just one more ugly example. They are truly the enemy amongst us.
They devoted enormous space on the FRONT PAGE of their failing newspaper as though they were reporting on a September 11th type of attack. Then, they allocated another 2 full pages in their section A to add to their full out attack on our local university.
The Herald also planned their September 11th style attack on Miami to land in their Sunday edition to destroy any excitement or good feelings Canes fans might have enjoyed had the Canes beat Notre Dame the previous night.
The story they scribbled on their pages is hardly new and has two goals...to destroy the University of Miami’s athletic program and possibly get the smear merchant reporters some face time on ESPN.
When one considers the world issues currently taking place and the Miami Herald believes the biggest story in the world that demands the majority of their front page is the Nevin Shapiro matter, which speaks volumes as to the qualifications of their management and reporters.
But, here's the thing, if they are right about their published accusations it informs the readers of one undeniable fact--the Miami Herald is the most inept newspaper on the planet as they had no worldly clue these alleged infractions were taking place for approximately 10 years right under their dislocated noses and took an out of town internet reporter to scoop them. This realization as to the lack of qualifications of the Miami Herald is a much, much bigger story than the Shapiro matter.
After reading yesterday’s venom and factoring in the overall quality of reporting of the Miami Herald I cancelled my subscription to the paper today after approximately 50 years of being a loyal reader and subscriber. I encourage others to do the same.
Posted by: AND NOW FOR THE REST OF THE STORY | October 08, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Davon Johnson has been playing really well the past few games. He caught everything thrown to him at ND and gave an extra effort to get more yards each time. He made several clutch catches in the late drive against GT. He reminds me of Brett Perriman. There is no question in my mind that he needs to be starting ahead of Hurns and playing more..Golden needs to make that happen!!!
Posted by: Jeff Claudy | October 08, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Dear Rest of the Story, If the accusations are not true the Herald really messed up, if the story is true there won't be anything left of the U's football program to mess up. Golden must be thinking--"I'm too good for this. Did it really come down to a place that protected child abusers and a place that allowed everything but child abuse. Why didn't I stay at Temple."

Man I was completely and utterly pumped for this game. Hell I might as well have knocked out a priest on the street in front of a cop I was so pumped for this. But damn man, talking about leaving me with the worst sickening feeling in my stomach that I have not had in yrs. I'm not going to lie, this loss to me, feels like losing to usf. ND is 5hit, plain and simple and we let them do what they wanted. Cierre Wood from ND said that our players gave up in the second half. I personally believe him because that is what I saw saturday night. We gave up and let them score at will. Our Dline might look big but are kids going up against men. I promoted our Dline up and down at the beginning of the season and have been let down. I also put blame on the defense on D'Onofrio. He has had 2 yrs and we have gotten worse, not better. He decides to make adjustments far too late in a game to make any kind of a defensive stand. On offense I believe we should have just kept sending our WRs down field every freaking play until someone catches the stupid ball. Dorsett what the hell happened to you man?!?! Hell we had what seemed to me to be about 9-11 dropped passes. He hitting them deep until they start backing up every player they have and then run the ball. Dorsett drops 2 TDs, Feliciano holds and calls back Morris's run TD. 2 garbage personal fouls on punt and then out of bounds that kept NDs drive alive and the go ahead TD. David Perry was pushed into the punter and no one looked at it twice. Then Eddie Johnson gets called on hitting out of bounds. That ND player was still on the field while Johnson was diving in the air to tackle him and once he stepped out of bounds, EJ made contact. His momentum carried him so that's not a penalty. But it's a neutral site for ND (bull5hit) so leave it to the refs to handle the game as usual. Sorry, not going to apologize for that comment because those two penalties were pure garbage. I'm simply left with a disgusting feeling STILL in my stomach and it's MONDAY. C'mon GOLDEN I know Coach D is your friend but as your friend you need to be honest with him and I mean now. He needs to get it together or fire up that resume. Maybe bring in another DC and have Coach D as an assistant DC. At least he'll still get a check. Absolutely disgusted. ND is not better than The U. I don't care what they did that night, they're not better than us. We let them win by folding. I hope that everyone woke up this morning by being slapped in the face by COACH GOLDEN. Coach, my faith in you has not changed. I see the passion in you that I want for my Canes but I have lost ALL FAITH IN D'ONOFRIO. At least Fisch went all out on the first play. That was exactly what we needed from the get go, hit'em in the mouth and don't let'em up. But we did let them up.
LETS GO CANES WE GOT UNC NEXT! LETS GET THIS CONFERENCE TITLE!!!GO CANES!!!

I'm sorry for the long rant but I had to unload my feelings. FOCK ND.
GO CANES!!!

Good points here. Didnt know why they put that in the suday papper after a loss. Old info. Pen st just beat a top 25 team on sat. Our sanctions will be nothing like penn states. This will be over alot quicker than u think and we will rise to the top again. But it will never be like before other teams come down to s. Fl and compete for the kids not like before.
Posted by: Jbarry | October 08, 2012 at 12:27 PM
I agree Jeff Claudy, he should start.
Posted by: CANETILLIDIE....DH | October 08, 2012 at 12:28 PM
yes the defense is bad, but look at the depth chart, mostly freshmen and sophmores. Lets not sentence phillip dorsett to death just yet, I'm sure you guys didn't think that at the end of the NC State game, I am concerned about jake wieclaw, mark my words this team will be faced with a game that will be decided by a field goal and I'm not sure we can count on him, mentally, he's just completely out of it. This team has a good chance of going to the ACC championship game, given the circumstances, that would be a huge accomplishment. GO CANES!
Posted by: johnny | October 08, 2012 at 12:35 PM
I was at the game and share the disappointment of others. However, we need to give Dorsett a break. I can remember an FSU game in the OB when Santana Moss dropped a sure touchdown at the 5 yard line alone, on the first play of the game. He turned out great and I think Dorsett will as well.
Posted by: Mcanes | October 08, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Yeah it is very sick feeling. I didn't think we would win the game but to get beat like a drum on a national stage is very disturbing. That game didn't mean anything for the acc but everything for our respect and reputation. Envite us to a big game under the lights and we fold. We could have been up by either one the passes to Dorset and came away with nothing. Then we dropped an int that we could have returned to the house. Amagine how hyped we would have been had we caught those passes. Hopefully we are itching to get back on the field to get this garbage out of our system.
Posted by: Tallycane | October 08, 2012 at 01:02 PM
Djohnson should start and play more but Dorsett must be given a chance to redeem himself and I beleive he will. We must learn from this experience that it doesn't happen again.
Posted by: Tallycane | October 08, 2012 at 01:04 PM
Always a Cane fan. Sat's game disappointing however I will be there for the next one. Tempo of game set when 3 would be TD's not produced. Defense keys off offense. Does the defense not study films? The same plays work against the D game after game. This should be a lesson. If you do not want to continue getting beat by your opponent, be stronger.
Posted by: Swampbilly | October 08, 2012 at 01:10 PM
It doesnt matter if he changes the chart 1000 times. Until he fires DNO we are getting diferent names same result. Members of the 500 club and such good members that the 600 club has invited us. Thats yards FYI
Also look at the facts: We recruit top 20 and top 10 classes every year, our players are all state all county etc. And of the 110 other schools that are supposed to have less inferior talent we are ranked LAST IN D!!!
HEY open your eyes it is COACHING not youth. Ahh and if you know a little bit of the sport IT IS EVIDENT the D is out of place 90 % of the time>>>>>>
Posted by: jerry | October 08, 2012 at 01:16 PM
DON'T go no purchase tickets for this crap...If you didn't know our new administration doesn't care about winning, they only care about ratings as for football and making money for other stuff, not football!!! So if you are a recruit DONt waste your time comming here !!! Go to a school that has an administration that is not CHEAP and realy cares about winning!!
Posted by: jerry | October 08, 2012 at 01:24 PM
I like the offensive approach that was taken from the offensive coordinator. My heart goes out to Dorsett,if only he can hang on to any of those passes. The defensive approach I just don't understand. They are not aggressively pursuing the opponent's offense. I believe I have been reading all off season about this vaunted strength and conditioning program, and the "bad apples" who didn't buy into it left prematurely for the NFL. Supposedly, Miami had the eighth best recruiting class in the nation, I am seeing freshmen having impacts on other programs- something just isn't adding up here.

I felt the same way about ND, really not that good. We did everything possible to stay out of that game. That said, where are we as a team if we let them run up the score on us?

Rest of the Story....
I don't see it, sorry. The allegations are what they are, the sanctions are coming, don't blame Herald.
Shalala needs to go so I hope you aren't sticking up for her. All of this happened on her watch with her people.
I will agree the reporting stinks.

If ND is not that good then what are the canes? What are they besides a total embarrassment? Giving up 500 yards and 40 points a game, disgusting. How dUmb can you be to say ND is not that good right after they demolished you?

This coaching staff needs a wake up. Let these kids play pressure defense send the dt's up field let the lb's play down hill. put the cb's in man all game long and you will see a defense cut it's yards per game in half.

Maybe you didn't see the game but we gave up. If you give up early enough, you allow the opposing team to run wild and that's what happened. Sorry if we kept our heads up we would have been fine. But it doesn't help when we have a DC that is oblivious to the fact that he is a DC and should make adjustments when needed not wanted during a game. We're good enough to beat them and we laid an egg. We beat NCST with tons of mistakes and now they just beat FSwho formerly ranked #3 in the country now knocked down to #12. So what does that say. We can beat a team that can beat a #3 ranked team but we can't beat a #9 ranked team with no real offensive threat. We made them look good. Even one of NDs players openly said that in the 2nd half we "gave up". That's what I saw so that ND player said the truth. Don't know what you saw but I saw a team give up.

YOU LISTENING COACH D'ONOFRIO?? PROBABLY NOT BECAUSE YOU'RE BEGGING YOUR WIFE FOR SEX BUT SHE RATHER SLEEP WITH A WINNER OR AT LEAST SOMEONE WHO PUTS UP AN EFFORT. WHAT'S WRONG PERFORMANCE ISSUES NOW AFFECTING YOUR WORK LIFE? BE A MAN DAMMIT!!

@ Canesjunkie
I hope that Golden went and woke up every player with a slap in the face this morning screaming to get the F up and get ready to pay!
In all honesty, yesterday, I had to do something to get rid of my frustration because hitting the gym didn't do it for me. So I drove out to the glades and brought a few of my toys with me to shoot a couple hundred rounds. Believe me, it's a stress reliever.
GO U!

It was 13-3 in tne second q. Miami gets the ball back. Great field position. They drive. Theyre at the 30. Fourth and 5. The kicker has missed five of the last six fgs. There is a minute left and we have 2 time outs. And you make him kick it? Are you efen serious?
You go for it. If you dont make it, same result. Im not a betting man, but chances we convert a fourth and five is better than wieclaw making a 47 yarder. No? If we score, its either 13-6 or 13-10. All new ball game.
But the second half began with the same crap. ND played 3 or 4 different plays:
A read option,
A funky pitch out to the rb
Or a lateral pass to a wr that was free with miami defenders ten yards back. Simple. At least 6 yds.
Reboot. Repeat. Do over. And over. And over. Till the defense gets tired and starts arm tackling, then wood bReaks free for a 50 yarder.
And anthony chikillo remains an enigma. He is nowhere to be found. He is running around like a chicken or playing paddy cakes or geting pancaked.

why blame the herald for anything....the season is over. All that is left for excitment is duke and fsu..were not going to a bowl game even if we qualify. Golden will/should give it up anyway to preserve recruiting....if sanctions hit after 2013, advise is to become a gator fan. Thats all that is left in florida beside retirees, lol. I still say another shoe is gonna drop....

CANETILLIDIE I feel your pain, and I know that the feeling just gnaws at you because the product is there but the end result is disappointment.
My thoughts are, with all the comments about us giving up after two intense games and showing that we played to the end under pressure and still won, (after loosing to KState) I thought we turned the corner and would fight like alleycats for a win come H*** or Highwater.
This never happened with ND.
In reviewing this ND game two things stood out.
1. The offense after drops, misscues, and penalties became totally unhinged..Now they tried to get back on track but nothing worked..Young team, on the road they got frustrated and especially Steven started throwing low and inaccurate passes no one could catch.
2. The defense played well in the first quarter, then out of position guys were free lancing, not holding postions, and not wrapping up..Plus they were gassed being on the field for such a long time...U tough is good but not indestructible..they got tired and pursuit suffered. Thus the lack of intensity in the 4 th quarter.
Here in the Mid Atlantic my flag is still out and we still have our 'Cane parties. We are still ardent fans and will NOT make a heartbreaking loss dull our ardor.
My take:
1. Draw up new schemes for N.C. on defense that they have not seen before..
2. Switch up the formations and play like we did againt GT where you match up and play man and then drop out to cover your area.
3. Even if you get thrown over the top, bring the blitzes to keep the QB honest... rush him and he will start reacting...Bring some heat.. and show some inventiveness in adjustment, not just tweaking on the run and adjusting 1 or 2 plays.
4. Our running game should be crucial...Run, run , and run..third and long when they think pass run the ball.
We have good athletes in James, and Duke let's use them.
N.C. can be beat. In fact I think when the team realizes that the importance of this game rides on our ACC Conf. hopes they will come out and play well..
We have a lot at stake, and all those players have pride along with a positive statement that a win over N.C would bring...It can be done..
You get down, pick yourself up and go Kick some A**.
The team is young but our intensity level must be super high to get a revenge win on N.C.

The "DC" saga:
Teams that play U are averaging 557 yards a game.
...Mr. DC: U are killing our program.
There are NO bright spots on D.
...Mr. DC: U are killing our program.
Teams do NOT fear UM like in the past.
...Mr. DC U are killing our program.
"Goldy? Why do U put up with this guy?
...Mr. DC U are killing our program.

532: What the heck are U talking about? There are probably three bright spots on the defensive side. Chick is one of them.

Gallo the other shoe will drop on your head.
It will be a welcome day when you become a Gator because you surely aren't much of a Miami fan.
Our program will survive and become stronger no matter how many shoes you dropped on it's head.
You may not be od enough to rember Butch bringing back the 'Canes after the Pell fiasco..
Been there done that so please become a Gayturd and hit yourself in the head while you are at it with both shoes.
Thanks,
Go 'Canes Always

Make that 4: Perryman, Johnson, Paul, and yes Chick. Cain is an unused secret weapon.

@ UGoCane
Thanks man I'm getting over it and thinking of UNC now. It did suck though but all said and done. I agree with everything you posted and hope that Coach D actually does something because if this continues I see Golden getting pressure to replace him. I want to see Fisch unload on the tar5hits defense.
GO CANES!!!!

Beating UNC and solidifying our lead in the coastal will provide some healing from that arse kickin we received.

Miami is improving but it is not yet in the league with top 10 or even top 15 teams.
The DL and other positions are being pushed around like blocking dummies. They need a real strength coach not someone who has survived through the Coker and Shannon era.

@DNix
Agreed, but we need to make a statement when we do it.
GO U!!

Improvement Improvement Improvement...7th game we are half way through the season...as a team they should not regress....8-4 is good..9-3 is great...10-2 is f'n awesome...but it starts with improvement...another 400 yard game is crap...the talent speaks for itself...we have had the most guys i believe acc player of the week...and as far as the offense goes they had an off game...Dorsett..duke...morris..scott..the line...james...are really good..also hurns..they had an off game..the defense has to show some type of improvement...i know i write that in my blogs..but it has been for two years they have been getting ripped on long runs..last year what is was no players at d tackle..this year what youth...another 400 yard game and then what "coaching" d'onofrio has to improve period..the defense best game was georgia tech and that aint saying squat..the facts lead that it has to be improvement...another horrible game and you might have to pull a georgia tech...(golden was the line backers coach under Al Groh) we have to see improvement
