Golden's post-game comments after Va. Tech win

Al Golden's post-game Q&A with reporters after the 30-12 win over Virginia Tech.

On his impressions from the team’s performance…

"I'm excited. I feel like we healed up, I feel like we grew up. Holding them to 12 points is significant without Denzel [Perryman], without Deon [Bush], I think some other guys stepped up. I'm real proud of their effort and the fact that a lot of the young guys are not young anymore. They had a good look, they prepared well, we had good practices. I felt good coming into the game, and the kids responded."

On the importance of a bye week...

"We all seemed fresh. Let's all be real - that was really hard. The first eight weeks, and the opponents we ended up playing out of conference and away, that was difficult. I just think last weekend we got them back. We only practiced two days in the bye week. Good sense of mind, good focus and good energy. I thought they were really resilient tonight. They were tough."

On the lopsided time of possession and score...

"We had good field position because of one Duke [Johnson] return and a turnover I believe. Obviously there are a couple of red zone opportunities we didn't convert early, or it could have been even bigger at the half. Nobody got down. Even when we sputtered on offense in the third quarter, the whole third quarter basically - hats off to Virginia Tech, I thought they did a great job, they had a great scheme, gave us a lot of problems there - our guys hung in there and had some big drives to end the game."

On the play of the team’s defense...

"We held them to 12, and we gave up about a 75-yarder - it looked like he started here and ended up in Coral Gables. It was just one of those deals. Our MIKE linebacker was matching around and he fell down and it just opened up. I'm real proud of how resilient they were. We weren't great on third down on either side early in the game, but we ended up getting another takeaway down there on the goal line. There were a lot of guys who stepped up and really did a nice job for us when they got an opportunity today."

On being in first place in the Coastal Division...

"It's critical. I know everybody wants us to be national champions yesterday and get back to the BCS games and all that, but the reality of it is that the pathway through that is the Coastal. It's almost like we have to re-educate our team that that's how you get there. You get there by getting to Charlotte, and then you have a 50-percent chance of going to a BCS game. That's what we have to do, we have to educate our team, because our fanbase doesn't really understand that right now. They look at the Notre Dame game and it's all in or bust. This game coming up against Virginia is critical. It's truly critical for us. We have to get focused, get right, and get back to work."

On the fourth quarter spark on offense...

"I think we stayed with it. We found a couple of runs that worked. It started with Rashawn's [Scott] conversion on the third-down play. That was big. He and Stephen [Morris] read each other's eyes and made a big play there, and then we got some runs going. I thought Mike [James] and Duke [Johnson] ran really hard, and then obviously knocked them off the ball a little bit."

On winning games without explosive plays...

"We're better on defense. It showed that we're making enough plays on defense that we don't have to have prolific, explosive plays and still win. Obviously the punt block helped. We have to do a better job covering kicks, but it showed we could win in a different way. We didn't quite have enough against North Carolina to pull that one off. It's nice to do it this way."

On the improved play of the team defense...

"I thought our defense hung in there. They did a great job in the redzone and ended up doing a good job on third downs late in the game. We got a couple of sacks, we started to get after their quarterback - that's critical, We haven't had that from a four-man rush. Olsen [Pierre] came up big the one time, and a couple other guys did a really nice job of getting to him. It makes all the difference in the world. Finishing with an interception was great."

On Deon Bush’s injury...

"Deon's been struggling with some stingers. We'll evaluate him, but I think the best thing to do was to shut him down. It was on fire for him. There was some pain. Denzel just wasn't quite right. We'll put him back in a boot, and hopefully in nine days he'll be ready in Charlottesville."

On a strong special teams performance...

"They looked good in the return game. I think it was Gabe [Terry] that blocked it, right? We put him in a different position this week and challenged him, and Rayshawn [Jenkins] and those other guys, he just went out and did it as perfectly as you could do it. He stayed low, got his hand down nice and low. We missed on some of those opportunities earlier in the year. Mike [Barrow] has been working the heck out of it. Mike designed it, and the kids went out and executed it. I'm really excited we had a chance to do that finally."

On wearing orange uniforms with orange pants...

"I wanted them to have fun. It was a tough eight weeks. We had a chance to get a break, catch up on school, and get healthy. I just wanted them to have fun. It was a little surprise for them. I think they were excited about it. I guess that means we have to keep wearing it, I don't know. It was good."

On the success of trick plays...

"That was big. Dallas [Crawford] did a nice job, and he threw it really well. I guess you could argue he should have thrown it in the flat to Duke. But he made a decision and Kind of zinged it in there. I keep saying it, Dallas is coming on now. Dallas is starting to do a good job for us and grow up. I'm excited about Dallas. Obviously Dorsett made a great decision getting us some more depth and throwing it across the field to Stephen [Morris]."

On the expectations inside his team’s locker room...

"We're trying to learn a process and get better. We've been focused on the Coastal. That's what our focus is right now. I'm glad I'm coaching at a place where the expectations are high. At the end of the day, When you can meet the expectations of your fanbase, you're going to be in a great spot. We're going to keep doing it. We just need a little bit of patience because of how young we are. We're growing up. Guys are fighting hard, they're working, they're getting better. I'm excited. A lot of guys stepped up today that hadn't - Curtis Porter, Jalen Grimble, Tracy Howard early in the game, [Rayshawn] Jenkins in his coverage. I can go on and on. Guys stepped up, and guys that are going to be here for a long time, and I'm excited about that."

71 yard touchdown pass from erickson to hill...then hill runs into tunnel of texas with 6 guns blazing....an all time cane classic....dont even go to the miami games...just watch old games on utube...then come back when Miami is in top 10.....lol

your article title is absolutely great. "Golden's post-game comments after Va. Tech win" too much informative article post. I hope you can post this kind of article again.
Thank you.

Little jimmy U are forgetting to change your identities before each post.

championships...dont worry Alex Collins will let Golden know I'd say by the end of the month he is gone....he aint feeling Miami anymore. Miami will not be able to recruit really anyone now for at lest 3 yrs with sanctions which will be harsh when they come down from ncaa.....also Golden moight lose keith bryant as well to fsu.....his mom is alumni and wants him to go there....sanctions/bowls will help her cause....Golden is in trouble

Little jimmy, little jimmy now that Collins and all the othe rrecruits see that Goldens teams are for real as they are players are going to be chopping at the bit to get a scholarship to come here. Fisher can't coach up there at the school northwest of us, and Golden is putting this team in position to win the Coastal division in only his second year on the job with a team loaded with freshmen. Plus players are seeing that they can come in and play immediately as freshmen as Golden plays the best players regardless of age as he has shown and not to mention the ladies of South Beach are alot better to look at than those up there at that school northwest of us.

I believe that if we had our own stadium near the campus or on campus, we would see a larger crowd for every home game. most of the big names school have stadiums on campus

UVA is wearing nc state out 23-0 at nc state. UVA has had our number as of late and this will be a tough game for us in Charlottesville. So lets not crown this young cane team yet. This is our most important game of the year.

collins is already gone....we are 5-4 and will end up at 6-6...how can we be for real? recruits have already mentioned the empty stadium as negative as well as sanctions....as for the freshman they are blowing us up....only shannons recruits have saved UM from total destruction....we will lose to both uva and sfla...

yeah sure, big mouth. UM will lose to USF and Duke. Sure. huh huh. What an idiot you are. You make no sense.

The only expectation for this season is progress, so we're right on schedule. The defense is coming around and they are developing some nice players.

There is no reason for the Hurry Canes to lose to Virginia unless the Canes get a fat head from somehow thinking they now are great when the truth is simply that the VT QB had a horrible day. Okay, yes the Canes played well, but not great, yet.

The Canes had better strap on their helmets and jocks extra tight for VA because it is whipping NC state badly
ANNNDDDDD
VA will be playing at home and have the incentive to avenge VT's humiliating loss in Ft. Ldle.
Annnnddd
have a good season by beating the Canes,
ANNNDDDD
VA will be primed to whip the Canes unless the Canes are psyched up for the game and can keep from making stupid mistakes like offsides or other penalties, fumbles, Morris throwing interceptions.

AND we need Clemson to beat Duke, tonight.

Keep dreamin little jimmy thats all U got.
Tally I was watching UVA game too and I agree with U that they have bben a problem and looked pretty good today. I don't see how they have had such a bad year. I know they got that kid that transferred from bama in Sims but to me NC State just looked like they had to show up for the game today with no emotion or energy. If we come out with the right mindset we should be fine but I know that coach for UVA is a good coach and he will have that team ready for us. They ain't going to bow down and just let us walk over them. If our guys will just forget about the Tech game and focus on what they need to we can win this game.
Junk, Yeah I agree progress was our goal this year and so far we have met that objective but we have to keep these young players focused on the task at hand.

U know guys I agree that we need our own stadium but what our University and leaders should be doing is promoting the fact that we are one of the few schools in America that play their home games on an NFL field.

clemson is not gonna lose to duke....even if we win the remaing games we will not get a bowl invitation...all this is green pea psysho-babble...we will NEVER be a top 10 team or BCS contender with D'nofio at the helm...his stats are no where near what is required to be relevent. 4400 yards defensively back to back years...no way. As for our freshman...they are not good. period. With the high likelyhood that collins and bryant de-comitt...and sanctions, this program is done. All what is left now is noise of limited success..like a gambler at the tables that is losing his shirt but wins a hand here and there and now thinks his luck has come back.

We need to blow UVA out, I'll never forget them closing diwn the OB. We need to run up enough points to get their coach to pass out. No mercy for that team.

I saw a dude wearing some U stuff and repping the U at Byrd stadium in the GT Maryland game. I just saw another dude wearing the U colors AT ND stadium in the ND-Pitt game.

Is there any doubt about the marquee name of the U? I was on top of AspenMountain with my U hat one fday and I had some old dudes throwing up the U at me.

Its about this M--fing U. Cane 72 with your cutsie babble and Jim Gallo aka stoopid, you all are soft.

We the U.

Win or lose. Theres nothing like the U.

And I stand with this U.

the path to success is thru the defense....no exception. defenses win games....we are so far from that with our 4400 plus yards when REAL teams are at:

fsu - 2044
alabama - 2240
ND - 2344
LSU - 1944

we are double that but this HC Golden is unwilling to make a change....our wins have been luck..I was at the BC game...what a joke that win was....and 5-4 is nothing to be proud of

It's amazing to me hearing a guy who is suppose to be coordinating the defense keep saying "all that matters is the score at the end of the game". Than when i constantly kept hearing him say "we shut this/that team down in the this quarter or this half" i knew than, this scrub doesn't know what he's talking about.

What matters the most is how the scores were gotten at the end of the game. With these defensive numbers we have, unless those numbers are slashed by a third come next year, but this will be the third year of guys like olsen pierre, 3g, laen grimble, eddie johnson, finnie, corey king, those guys will be going into their 3rd year. Next year, we should definitely began to see a better rotation of d-linemen, with the crew we have now and the crew we have waiting in the wings, we definitely have quality d-line guys, just a matter of them maturing and growing.

goldie definitely does have a good plan in place and he's definitely a good program builder. I can see the potential it has, but will these coaches, besides kehoe & barrow evolve into champions. It's one thing to be a coach, it's another thing to be a championship coach. kehoe has been a champion multiple times over, barrow has been a champion at UM so he knows what it's suppose to look like and him being a defensive guy, i'm sure this scheme is not to his liking overall but at the same time it's good for him because this does kind of highlight the linebackers a lil bit more as well.

We have players that have a need to play more aggressively than what the scheme is calling for, the conflict is, these coaches feel like you can play more aggressively within the same scheme. The 4-3 requires you to be more aggressive than the 3-4 from the secondary on down. You don't find to many 2 gap d-linemen.

This team can't blow anybody with the philosophical coaching we have right now. Until the coordinators start taking advantage of prime opportunities, than we'll began to become a dominant team. Right now, from an offensive standpoint, i'll take jedd fisch over nix & nipple anyday of the week, but he now has to decide what type of offense he wants to run, he's doing to much flip flopping than the guy who's suppose to be coordinating the defensive guys in oach OH-NO.

At least stick to a certain formation per drive, use good gains off of running plays to now get the play-action and the tight-ends involved. The problem with these west-coast offensive minded guys is, they don't involve the tight-ends much. Also, the west coach offenses tyr and use tight-ends more like receivers.

We have to get back to being a physicaly running team, to many times we abandon the run when it's 2nd & 7. Also, seems like if we pass on 1st down, whether we get yards or no yards, we come right back to a running play. jedd has to get back to having the defense back on it's heels again and don't become a stagnant oc.

Canefan72, i don't think smo17 is a national championship type qb, while he does have all the physical tools, the work ethic as well, his eyes for the game in game right now are not their. He just doesn't make a whole lot of efficient offensive plays just yet from that qb position.

Defensively, this is the philosophy that goldie is going to stick too, so time will tell on that side of the ball. I personally don't have any faith in oach OH-NO. Maybe this defense will start looking better as the d-line improves, but right now, this defense is giving up way to much.

Our defense doesn't intimidate many people, and i don't think this scheme will help teams be intimidated playing us as well.

Gallo is a troll......needs to get a life.

An impressive win today by Virginia on the road at NC State. They might be getting their chops after a tough season to date. Not good...

The Canes must bring their A game, a consistent offense with an intermediate passing game when needed, a deep threat where Morris is accurate and the ball caught, good pass prtotection and strong running with Duke breaking some long runs and Mike James banging away. Passes to TE and RBs.

The D must play with intensity, and the secondary must cover better. Love the play that Olson Pierre made, taking down the 265 lb Logan Thomas with one arm while in the air. Hope Perryman and Bush are ready! Both are hitters...

This will be a tough test, and Morris in particular must play a consistent game and not miss underneath routes that are open, as in to Duke...Touch please, and good play calling...

Go Canes! Payback for the times Virginia embarassed us! Virginia!

Win the Coastal and play in the ACC Championship. Screw the NCAA. They will hammer UM if at all possible, no matter what we do. And we have done a lot of mea culpas already.

Win first Coastal and press ahead as you normally would...Let the chips fall where they may!

Word is Kyle Wright snitched too? What happenef to the guys that used to love this school.

For shalala or anyone who might read (fingers crossed) - if we clinch we CANNOT impose a ban. Why? Two reasons. One? It took us almost a decade to get to the champ game and now we have a bcs chance we back out? No. No way. Two? What are the chances when they dock us scholarships that we get back to it when we couldn't with the scholarships?
This team could win out, and if it does, and stays healthy, it would be a different team facing fsu for a chance for a bcs game WHERE? IN THE EFFIN ORANGE BOWL.

DO NOT SELF IMPOSE A BAN IF WE CLINCH.

Watching the Pitt/ND game was like watching Miami's stupid coaching.

Pitt was ahead in the fourth quarter 20-6 using an aggressive defense. Pitt went into a Miami DC prevent defense, and the ND offense rolled over them.

Pitt could have won on a field goal, but their stupid coaching did not center the ball in the middle of the field, nor emphasize to the kicker to line up correctly, just like Weiclaw screws up half the time.

Pitt could have also won by running its first down play after it intercepted with about two
minutes left to play to get the clock running to force ND to burn its time outs. Instead they threw incomplete passes, so ND got the ball back with all of its timeouts and tied up the game, again against the Pitt DC using a stupid prevent defense instead of blitzing and spying the running ND QB.

Damn, I hate stupid. The eighth grade trolls on this site who know nothing about good football, good coaching, and good formations keep coming and posting tripe about this player and that, building a program, all about the UUUUU, what a crock.

Winning games and filling the stadium is all about good attacking defensive formations, good blocking on offense, perfection of pass patterns much more so than recruiting great players or building a program or a stadium or loyalty to a certain college.

And again, if Morris and his receivers will stay after practice and practice ten yards and in and out patterns, 15 yard in and out pass patterns, 20 yard in and out timing patterns, etc, Morris will take this team to a NC. His style and passing evinces that he has the potential to be another Dorsey or Kosar or Erickson or Kelly. And he is smarter than testawho who threw away a NC to Penn State.

canefan72. You should have called into the stadium and spoken directly to the Pitt coach>

"Hello?"
Hey coach, my name is cane72
Im here in south florida and I thinkI know more than you, despite your 15 years of D-1 coaching
This is what youhave to do, coach.
Put 4 down linemen.
Blitz.
And line the kicker in the middle
'capeesh?

Uh, what's your name again?

Cane72.

Where did you say your calling from?

South florida.

Sorry not interested. click.

CaneFan72,

Agree on the odd call of Pitt running right on third down, and then the kicker, who was 3/3 at the time, missing just to the right. A blown chance to win and an odd play that you rarely see.

Also agree on Pitt backing off their aggressive defense. Cost them the game. Usdually a mistake, I think. Why not use it on Hail Marys, but use the two deep with a lead?

Yah, Morris should work on intermediate routes. Fisch should use dump offs to the RBs and TEs instead of sideline passes which rarely gain much for us. Other teams pull that off, but not UM for some reason. Often, the defense has 2 tacklers and we have one WR blocking on that play.

Don't see NCs happening anytime soon. We do not have the quality players yet to approach this level. But the ACC is a ticket to the BS and opponents are beatable.

I am hopeful but not sure about the coaching in terms of ability to take us there. I like Golden and the staff, but believe they are about a Penn State style football team. Don't think that will cut it these days.

Thopugh you take some knocks on here, I appreciate the valid points you do make...I mean, you are a Cane alum, right, so how could you not?

Go Canes!

Man, i was watching the end of that game to and thinking the same thing. The sad thing is, those pitt coaches will probably start practice on monday or tuesday blaming the players, saying we got execute, this and that. It was frustrating watching them give away that game like they did.

It reminded me of the 1st year norv turner was the oc here and it was the last game of the season, if we beat new england we win the division if we lost to new england we're out of the playoffs. So the dolphins were up by 10 with some where around 4 mins to go with the ball at around our 10 yard line, here we got ricky williams leading the league in rushing that year, what does norv do, comes out and throws the ball 3 straight times, new england had 1 time out. We punt the ball and that punt returner they had/have kevin faulk i think immediately returns it close to a touchdown, new england eventually scores, than onside kicks, get the ball and ties the score, overtime, and something like the first play of overtime, the patriots went for the homerun, game over.

After the game they ask norv turner why did he pass the ball 3 straight times when new england had either 1 or no timeouts, the idiot said "cause they had 8 men in the box", lol, you have to laugh to keep from slapping em.

Same thing last night watching that pitt coaching staff start getting nervous even when they had the advantage to win it in overtime, scared man coaching will normally always leave you on the short end of the stick.

The blueprint that other teams have taken to beat notre dame is from the Stanford game. If Stanford had a vertical passing game they would have beaten notre dame. We had one but couldn't execute. I'm still sick about that game. Dorsett dropped some sure td's and on the defensive side highsmith could have taken a pick to the house. I would have liked to see how they would have responded to being 14 points down to us.

Poor crowd bring down the prices. My car cant see the game 30.00 way to much. Also turn down that anoying music and comercials. Would like to talk to my neihbors during breaks in the game. And maybe the crowd noise could reach the fied.

Cane72 & dbc, it's a 2 fold problem why those crossing routes are not called that much for smo17. He has a hard time picking up the linebackers when he comes out from under center, which is where those crossing routed normally work on play-action coming from under center because as yall know, it forces the linebackers to check run and than opens up the space needed behind the linebackers.

Well, in the past 2 year, most of smo's picks have come with him trying to throw the ball in those areas of the field, so i remember when jedd said, if a play doesn't work, he just throws it out the playbook. Which means, he basically doesn't call it again or even look too. When we go shotgun, the linebackers are already takign deeper drops so that negates alot of those crossing routes so what jedd tries to do than is run alot of rub routes up field, which is good and bad, because smo is like a jump shooter.

He needs to get lay-ups first, than slowly he'll start hitting the the longer shots. His incinsistency stems from jedd not getting him in a groove with certain play calls and smo not understanding how to keep moving the sticks, to many times he's going for the home-run on third downs instead of going for the 1st down.

j70 was a way better qb the smo because he understood the game 2 times better than smo from a mental standpoint. Every time morris tries to stand up and check us off to a better play, he's at about a 98% failure rate at doing that, he tries to do it with confidence he just doesn't understand the game that well or his teammates yet.

When j70 checked off to another play he was at around a 95% success rate or positive yardage to his check-offs.

Calvin,

Nice analysis, and I appreciate it.

Then how about curls or outs or the TE down the middle as alternatives for an intermediate game with crossing routes?

Morris has got the arm and these, plus dump-offs to the RBs, might be better alternatives to sustain drives. I like getting Rashawn Scott in on the intermediate action since he has good after catch speed and moves.

The TD pass to Hurns in the Va Tech game was great and well-timed. Hurns is also a nice out receiver. He was wide open, as was the TE up the middle on 2 successive plays. But Morris' ability to read the field is inconsistent and he did not see them. Big pass rush as well.

Funny saying that about a guy who broke the UM and ACC records for passing yardage, no?

But Morris, with all the good things he has done, has work to do, as many have pointed out here. Looking for consistency in drives, better calls by the OC at times, a ball control game with the deep threat looming for the defense.

And if the opponent's front 7 is especially strong, stop running the ball up the middle! Pull blockers and go wide. Both our RBs will have a better shot at yardage.

Hope we have that complete game against Virginia this Saturday. We may need it as they will be riding high after yesterday.

Go Canes!

Morris needs to work on his deep ball. He's got no touch with that thing, give the reciever a chance. Throw it in like you did on the first play of the ND game.

The Troll needs to decide if she's going to resign when the sanctions hit. How is it that Randy Shannon had more sense than her? She caused this situation, so any attempt to offset sanctions should start with your resignation.

dbc, the only tight-end we got that can get somewhat open is clive walford, these coaches have allowed asante and dyron dye to put on to much bad weight, at 270/275 pounds, you not getting open on your own. clive is at/around the right weight for him. That's the main reason he's the only one catching passes out of all our tight-ends. They tried to make asante to physical looking and at 270lbs, when i heard he was up to that weight i just shook my head, because it tells me these new guys are more concerned with the eyeball test more than they should be.

Alot of the routes we ran with j70 was because he understood how and when to release the ball and his accuracy was on point. morris having the stronger arm, alot of times strong arm guys don't release the ball when they should, so while they can get the ball their faster, they still hesistate instead of anticipating the route.

That pass to hurns was one of the best anticipation throws morris has made his whole time here in game and it was accurate. j70 made those type throws more consistently, which is why our offense under him consistent had 4 and 5 minute drives. If we could merge shannon's defensive staff with goldie's offensive staff, we'd be one of the top teams in the nation.

smo does not know how to run an offense and doesn't understand down and distance just yet. takes to many bad chances and makes to many pre-determined reads and keeps missing mike james wide open in the flats to many times, that play was there all day long against Fsu's defense. Especially on that stupid fade route call to robert lockhart, lol, who's idea was that, this man hasn't caught a pass all year long in game and we're throwing fades routes to him. If anything, herb waters should be getting more burn, but our wide receiving crew is legit. Just growing up.

I'm curious to see how angelo jean louis stacks up, he'll surprise me if he's effective, but if we add stacey coley and jordan cunningham to this crew we already have, we'll be straight at the wide out spots for years to come. d'mauri jones has a whole lot of talent as well.

Throw in alex collins an with kevin olsen to push these other 2 qb's we have in preston dewey and the other guy, we should be good to go in the passing game.

I'm not sure why people think it should be easy for us to win out, that's only True if the defensive scheme is their for us to do so, but if we're going to continue to play it vanilla and have teams going up and down the field on us burning up clock, alot of these games are going to be tuff.

If you don't run the ball correctly, you're not going to be a good redzone team. For some reason in jedd's mind, going 3 and 4 wide inside the 5 yard line is a high percentage play. That's where goldie needs to step in and say, we need to go power I and put it on kehoe and his guys, they're waiting to get it done.

The Troll needs to decide if she's going to resign when the sanctions hit. How is it that Randy Shannon had more sense than her? She caused this situation, so any attempt to offset sanctions should start with your resignation.

shannon is smarter than the average out their and is not a money sniffer like troll shalala. So lo-cutt and shalala couldn't wait to fire shannon, they wanted him to kiss their butt for allowing him to be the "first black" to coach at UM. He wasn't having that, so they felt like he wasn't showing any appreciation since he wouldn't talk to certain boosters or try and be all cozy and buddy buddy with alot of those nerds.

shannon could careless abotu all that hoopla and that will never be his thing when it comes to being a headcoach. So they constantly handcuffed shannon than the ultimate was this administration hiring nipple and forcing him on shannon by making him be the assistant headcoach to try and make him be a eqaul to shannon.

Than when you add nevin shap into the mix telling lo-cutt to get rid of shannon and they nipple in on it too, why else would an oc call for jacory to be under center with no backs, and everybody running deep curl routes. Or better yet, j70 knowingly needed surgery, so we play unc, and instead of calling running plays, nipple is slinging the ball about 45 to 50 times that game.

He was pissed because although he was the assistant headcoach, he wasn't in charge of the personnel. So that's why you would see after offensive series, jacory would come off the field, and sit to himself, him and nipple wasn't even talking, where do they do that at. nipple was on the verge of getting whooped for real. Than once goldie came on board, nipple was trying to beg to keep his job here, goldie basically said, GTH outta here.

If you're to dumb to realize that by back-stabbing shannon you really and Truly only back-stabbed the kids that were here, you don't need to be coaching college kids.

Didnt Shannon hire Whipple?

Nope the administration did, but of course that's not news that's going to be made to public because it would make the University look bad, locutt was the main culprit behind it. Just another one of those moves that helped to handcuff shannon, which is why nipple was arguing with shannon right before the half of the clemson game.

Yep because it took him to long to call a timeout. Shannon also cussed out the reffs and butch when Barney got those picks and forward lateraled the ball and unc ran foe about forty yards the other way. He also had the same problem with him that year we played California in the micron pc bowl. Jacory threw too many picks to the same play and same area of the field. Doesn't make any sense why run that play action pass play when you have thrown 27 ints in two years just because it worked at the beginning of the year against fsu in Tallahassee. The first offensive play when we played at Ohio state was the worst playcall ever. He had the qb call an audible where the two offensive tackles motioned out and ran a ten yard quick out with both of them. Dumbest play call ever to get ten yards. How far did he think the tackles could run if they caught the ball. Whipple had the audacity to call that play in the middle of the field nowhere close to the endzone. I would have fired him then for putting those tackles knees at risk for minimal gain. I beleive they bout whipple in to be the head coach of that team. What the ad didn't know was that just because whipple was qb coach to mcnabb and Big Ben didn't make him a competent offensive coordinator. Whip was the worst IMO.

Great points although it was nix who was the oc when we played cali in that bowl game, because after that game, several people including shannon were about to beat the snot out of nix.

When nipple called that formation against ohio st., to show how stupid the play call was, ohio st. didn't even burn a timeout, they just started laughing themselves. It was also another way to try and embarass shannon. That whole first series was stupid which led to the interception because everybody knew that year we just threw a whole bunch of curls routes on 3rd downs.

shannon basically was in a no win situation once they hired whipple and made him the assistant headcoach. nipple kept trying to blame jacory and wanted to start smo, but smo wasn't ready and as we can tell, he's still not ready as of yet, just doesn't make enuff plays.

Yeah he threw for alot of yards against NC St., but it was alot of the plays that he didn't make in that game that's still the main problem. If the offense becomes more efficient, we'lll definitely have a chance to be more explosive, the o-line is doing a real good job.

wass up Canes

I been just listening or reading alot of stuff about our Canes. Fact is:

1. We won
2. D'Fino has to go (yes the defense played their best
game, but bc of individually effort)
3. Jedd Fisch 3 games in row, horrible play calling
4. Stephens Morris is to comfortable with his position. Qb competition needs to be reopen
5. as far as the attendance Thursday. Plp relax we continue to win theyll come. But prices must drop for parking, ect. Also the old OB seated less and was much smaller than this piece of crapp stadium.

Orange on Orange unis look awesome. They look good because we have a sleek white helmet...

Even our security plays more aggressive defense than goldie and his boy oach OH-NO! This what the crwod came to see:

All due respect Rchy12, opening up a QB competition with 3 games left, after the QB throws 2 TD's and no interceptions does not make any sense. I understand your frustration with the 3rd quarter performance of the offense, but the least, and I mean LEAST of this teams problems is at QB.

Does anyone really beleive that brining in Ryan Williams at this point of theb season would benefit the offense? Golden would lose the locker room and the continuity of the offense would be gone. I know the offense is not perfoming the way we would like and I know that Stephen Morris is no Andrew Luck or RG3, but cut the kid some slack. His is NOT holding the team back.

All of you who want to replace Morris, please name me the game that he has cost us?...........(crickets). By the way, what the heck has Ryan Williams shown any of you that makes you think he is better than Morris? Was it his sensational Spring Game? Was it the way he lead the game winning drive against UNC (a game where if Morris doesn't get hurt, we probably win)? Were you all privy to the Spring and Summer practices that were closed to all, even the media? I guess why you guys love Williams is because he lead Miramar to the state title game, yeah that must be it.

We won...and the defense played well. I'm not sure why the defensive coordinator needs to go.

Do you have any proof the administration hired Whipple. I thought the head coach hired his own staff. They didn't hire these coordinators.

Calvin, Shannon was not handcuffed by anybody other than himself. He hired the guys and his problem was he gave Jacory the position with no competition. He sucked as a head coach point blank. I agree whole heartedly with U that Shalaber should be forced out, and I applaude Randy for standing up to Shapiro and the administration by doing his best to keep his players away from the little piece of scum, but he is to blame for himself being fired as head coach. If he was such a strong man and coveted by so many in CFB, he would have just resigned and told SHalber and the rest to take the job and stick it up their ass because it went against what he believed in as a coach. Randy should have been ready but wasn't. I do believe that he will get another DC job somewhere in a year or two and if given the chance to be a HC again he will not make the same dumb mistakes he made while he was our HC.

I think Morris has played better than Jacory played last year and with the type of personel we have he is probably our best option. Morris needs to be more effiecient on his short to intermediate throws but as far as the long ball I can;t remember us ever having a QB with a stronger arm than that kid has got maybe Vinny back in the day but thats it. I believe Williams should get a series in the second qtr and possibly 3rd qtr but in all reality we havent been in a situation yet to where I could blame Golden for not doing so. Williams would need a better O line and running game and then he would probably be the most viable option because of his accuracy. However Morris due to his ability to scramble and launch a ball about 70 yards to this point has been one of our most valuable assets. I have seen teh kid throw balls that if anybody else threw them would be a pick 6 but its thrown so hard they can't handle it. Plus I like Morris's attitude.

Junk, The DC doesn't need to go anywhere. He has done a great job improving these young players each game.

Do you have any proof the administration hired Whipple. I thought the head coach hired his own staff. They didn't hire these coordinators.

Every year shannon got rid of somebody off the staff, and justifiably so. The administration did not want another firing because it was the wrong type of headlines thye didn't want in the news so of course the higher-ups knew about the fall-out between shannon and nix after the bowl game with cali and they knew about the fall-out between shannon and bill young after the Georgia tech game which also help prompt bill young to say something along the lines of "i'm sure he knows defense better than i do" so he jetted out.

So after shannon basically escorted the 2 coordinators he hired out, he hired john lovett, that was his 3rd d-co, at a major University, those are the type of mistakes a first year coach is just not going to be allowed to keep doing(hiring and firing), so the administration stepped in and hired nipple, particularly lo-cutt, made him the assisant headcoach, case closed.

Ask yourself, did shannon make any other coordinator assistant headcoach, wasn't going to happen. shannon almost had the staff in place he needed to get us back to prominence again, would it have been championship caliber, if he had the right support around em and learnt not to go with them grudges to much, other than that, right now, goldie just gives the media a little more of what they want as well as boosters and they like how he represents UM, and he does do a good job of that as well.

When it comes to coaching football, the majority of this staff has to evolve into championship caliber coaches.

your a complete idiot....DC has racked up almost 5000 yards vs benchmark teams at 2000 at this point....also Goldens record is worse than shannons at this exact time....Golden 34-44 overall and 11-10 miami....shannon was 12-10.....both Golden and DC need to be replaced....stats are the proof
