Golden after heartbreaking Virginia loss: "It's really important we don't splinter"

The Hurricanes are back at .500 following a heartbreaking 41-40 loss on the road at Virginia.

Of all five UM losses this season, this one will probably haunt UM coach Al Golden and his assistant coaches the most. UM (5-5, 4-3 ACC) had a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, and then a five-point lead with the ball following a safety with 4:19 remaining.

This loss wasn't about a lack of talent or being outclassed by a better team. The Canes simply blew too many opportunities against a Cavaliers team (4-6, 2-4 ACC) that will be lucky to finish .500.

This, by the way, is Golden's third loss to a sub .500 team in his first 22 games as Hurricanes coach. Golden's assistants deserve to share the blame equally.

Jedd Fisch's offense had the ball in Virginia territory on each of its last two possessions and went three-and-out on each drive.

Mark D'Onofrio's defense, meanwhile, gave up a 12-play, 71-yard scoring drive which made it 38-35 and then a 16-play, 87-yard scoring drive with six seconds left to give up the lead for good. Virginia converted two fourth downs on the game-winning drive including the last one on a defensive holding penalty on cornerback Thomas Finnie.

Afterward, Golden called the loss "heartbreaking."

UM, which was minus two suspended starters (linebacker Eddie Johnson and receiver Rashawn Scott) and two injured starters (linebacker Denzel Perryman and safety Deon Bush), returns home next week to host USF.

We have to see if Bush and Perryman will be healthy enough to return, and if Johnson and Scott will be allowed back. Golden didn't elaborate on the status of either suspended player.

"We just got to keep fighting," Golden told WQAM after the game. "We can't go backwards here. We got to stay together. It's really important we don't splinter, we stay together."

MORE THOUGHTS/NOTES

> Freshman Duke Johnson pretty much solidified his spot as the ACC's Rookie of the Year. He ran for a season-high 150 yards on 16 carries, threw an 8-yard TD pass to Allen Hurns and returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score (the two kick returns in one season tied the school record). His 368 all-purpose yards in Saturday's game helped him surpass Edgerrin James, Graig Cooper, Chuck Forman, Santana Moss and Lamar Miller for all-purpose yards in a season. Johnson now has 1,688 total yards on the season. Willis McGahee holds the UM record with 2,108 in a season.

Yet, it somehow still wasn't enough.

Fisch turned to Johnson with the game on the line -- with UM facing a 3rd and 6 at the Cavaliers 49-yard line with under three minutes to play. Johnson only got two yards on the carry and the Hurricanes had to punt. But Saturday's loss was hardly Johnson's fault.

"The last 3rd and 5, I wanted the ball in his hands, thought he would be able to get us in there," Golden said. "We didn't and had to punt the ball. Duke gave great effort. Last couple of weeks he's been healthy, preparing better. He's really playing hard for us right now."

UM's defense gave up 482 yards of total offense including 388 through the air as Virginia's two QBs Michael Rocco and Phillip Sims combined to go 40 of 51 passing in the game. That's a 78 percent completion percentage. Rocco was completing just 58.2 percent of his attempts coming in. Sims was completing 55.8 percent of his passes.

By giving up 41 points, UM's defense has now surrendered 312 points on the season -- just two shy of the previous UM worst set by the 1984 and 2008 defenses. The Canes have already given up 4,896 yards in all. The previous worst was 4,369 yards (1997).

The records for most yards allowed rushing (2,492, 1944) and passing (2,695, 2009) are well within reach with two games to go. The Canes have now given up 2,310 yards rushing and 2,586 passing after Saturday's loss.

> Gionni Paul ended up leading UM with a career-high 14 tackles. With Perryman and Johnson out, Paul and Jimmy Gaines (12 tackles) saw extensive playing time. Paul was beaten by Jake McGee for the game-winning touchdown pass.

"Obviously we left some guys home that could have helped us here today," Golden said. "We got to get off the field more on third down or the play count gets too high. The play count got really high on us. We didn't have the depth we need right now at the linebacker position and it showed late."

> Defensive end Anthony Chickillo produced his first sack in six games and helped along with Curtis Porter to produce a safety on Rocco in the fourth quarter when it was ruled he intentionally grounded the ball while jumping back towards the end zone. Chickillo was later credited with his second sack on that play.

Despite his effort Saturday, it's clear the Hurricanes need Chickillo -- and other pass rushers -- to be more productive consistently. Virginia's QBs rarely felt the heat on third and fourth down. The Cavaliers were also 6 of 6 in the red zone with 6 TDs against Miami. The Hurricanes have now given up 33 touchdowns in 54 red zone trips this season.

> Freshman Rayshawn Jenkins didn't start for the Hurricanes at safety, but finished third on the team with eight tackles. Jenkins and Bush are the future for UM at safety and D'Onofrio might consider playing both together in Miami's final two regular season games -- assuming Bush will be back.

> Cornerback Ladarius Gunter continues to impress in pass coverage. He had three of UM's five pass breakups. Most of Virginia's successful passes went in the direction of Finnie, freshman Tracy Howard and over the middle against UM's linebackers, who were out of position on many plays.

> A week after going 1 for 12 on third down versus Virginia Tech, UM finished 4 of 10. It's the last two third down attempts that will haunt them.

> Receiver Phillip Dorsett, who had just eight catches for 81 yards in his four previous games combined, finished with six catches for 103 yards and a touchdown.

So first year coach, Kevin Sumlin takes Texas A and M and a young QB into Tuscaloosa and beats #1 Alabama.

No whining about youth from this guy. Key interception on the goal line to seal the game.

Our defense is not improving. In fairness, we did a decent job against the run, and they played aggressively.

The secondary has to be the worst in FBS. Most every QB looks like a Heisman candidate for the past 2 years.

Michael Rocco for the Heisman! Or maybe Sims! Or both!

Poor coaching is the issue. Play calls on the last 2 drives were backwards.

It pains me to say it, but I don't think these coaches will get us there...

What's Butch Davis up to these days?

Dwayne... No one is giving Golden a pass. One of the differences is, these kids didnt quit today. Shannons teams quit multiple times.

Let's be clear about something here. The 3rd and 6 call did not necessarily cost UM the game because a pass play may have been unsuccessful as well. What we do know, however, is that the call indicated extremely poor judgment on Golden's part based on everything that had happened in that game up until that point. What is that we knew? We knew we didn't want to have to see the defense be called upon to win that game at the end.

Just another Heartbroken Fan of "our boys". Won't repeat the obvious as so many have already alluded to...specifically the Defense & the Coaches responsible. But seriously, where is the accountability model? I believe that if Coach Golden is honest with himself at the end of the season, he'll have to have a "One Year Turnaround Contract" with his best friend, best man at his wedding, and our Defensive Coordinator.

I don't blame golden on this one, this is all defense, the offense was explosive and it pisses me off that duke johnsons hard work went to waste, a freshman of all people is busting his behind for this team, he could have gone anywhere and decided to come to miami for this, this offense did everything it could and was forced to work extra hard because the defense cannot come up with anything. Unfortunately d'onofrio is not gonna be fired, but I'd say if the same thing is happening at the end of next year, then its time to put friendship aside and put the team first, d'onofrio wll need to go.

We need new people on defense. I am in LA but I do know Miami is much better than this. Something is wrong. UM staff are worst in particular DC. He should resign before school does and Al Golden is too young to win National title. We may wait til he is 50 years old.......then he cannot say we don't have enough experience.......

I see ya big Cal

What up nash, lol, you caught me. Tell Uchamps, esteban, bg and zak i said what up, and insanez1 too. I had to slide this way, got tired of blondie playing games with the post man. Every time her boy warmashat5 started crying whining about something, she'll start holding up my post or just straight out deleting, so she can keep jugglin his sack, they can have at it now. Than when zak came on hitting em with the facts, he was on point like we be, blondie didn't want both of us over there, so no problem, i did like UM did today, made the choice easy, and came over here.

When people starting taking it to serious and start messing with the controls, no problem, you know you's my dawg and the other few, but man, no time for games, even when i'm not posting blondie likes to post things as if i'm really trying to post, i don't like that fronting type stuff. I haven't even looked over there since i been over here man, but they rowdy over here for sho, lol. Alot of people keeping it and speaking like it is, let the blondes blonde!

Hey mark d'onofrio i really appreciate everything you did for us today, I owe you one buddy, thanks. go wahoos!

you know what? the hell with it, how was brian kelly able to turn it around so quickly at notre dame, how is will muschamp doing it at UF, heck nick saban is doing ok, and the miami hurricanes coaching staff does not even deserve to be mentioned in the same book as any of these coaches. I never expected al golden to come in and win a national championship immediately but geez, how in the world can a team just get completely pushed around on defense the way this team does??? how in the world is this possible, how can any team just pass all day and make it look easy?? you look around college football at every level and only the miami hurricanes get pushed around on defense this way.

These coaches do not have a clue as how to prepare and adjust during games; even with the young talent on this team, we should be 8-3 right now. How confused can a team be? AG is not the answer for this program and I do not care how much Jimmy Johnson gives him a thumbs up. The U gave AG an open checkbook to hire coaches for this program; if RS had the same support or money to bring in coaches, RS would still be in place "winning" games. To lose 41 - 40 to a sucker team like UVA is senseless. How many more excuses can there be for this man (AG). The NCAA should deliver it is punch as soon as possible; maybe AG will take his excues with him? Oh, does have one more...once the sanctions are handed down, he will say to the administration that he was unaware of the pending investigation and bolt. President, do us a favor, fire him now and move on. Remember what I said yesterday, AG will turn our U into another UVA; never good enough to do anything but beat below average teams.

I'm ok with getting out butts kicked by K-state notre dame and florida state, I mean that is what was supposed to happen, I am not ok with letting a crappy poor excuse of a football team like virginia just completely push around this defense like if they were substituted by a pop warner team, boston college almost beat miami and we see how BC's season is going, this is ridiculous and whatever this defense is doing they need to stop and adjust cause its not working.

mike london knows he's a better coach than goldie and he knows how passive oach OH-NO is with his soft zone schemes, lol. Last year it was logan thomas looking all world against us, i think he was 22/23 at one point, than we started off with o'brien from the turtles last year looking all world, and i'm sure there were others, this year, chase rettig(hasn't been heard from since) looked heisman worth, than glennon from NC St., now rocco, the thing that pisses me off is, after colin klein and k st. beat us, oach OH-NO said "well, he does that to everybody".

As if it's ok to do that to us, but than how come after all these no name qb's torch his soft schemes he doesn't make that same statement. We're losing games the same way all those big 10 teams would lose games to us, he's trying to play a big 10 scheme and play that soft zone crap behind it. This is a coward's defensive scheme. t3 plays with heart as well as all the other guys, but this guy needs to roll out.

zone defense will get you nowhere but to 5 & 5, the sad part is, this team could easily be 1 & 9. All i got to say is, don't lose to duke, if we win or lose to usf, that's one thing, but losing to duke is way worst, and usf will be playing to win and with supreme confidence.

Also great call on texas a&m beating the so called "bama powerhouse" with youth as well, "NO EXCUSES". They went in there and went at that team like you're suppose to do it all game long. My main reason for not wanting goldie's boy here is, he's not ready for the big stage if he can't call an aggressive defense or desing one against these pantsy antsy teams we're playing now, we've already seen what he can do against k st. notre shame and the likes.

It's not the fans being crazy, it's actually statistically the truth. Miami is maybe the worst defense out of 120 teams. You can't blame youth. How many other teams out of 120 have several freshman and sophomores starting for them. I'm sure there are many out there. Think about it Miami of Ohio is a better defense than the canes. Toledo, Rutgers, Cincinnati! How are the canes worse than these teams! I mean Temple is better than the canes!! I'm in the military in Japan. I have to wake up 2 in the morning on Sunday to watch a UM game for 3 hrs. It's a waste of my time because how they play. Tired for the rest of the day. Coach D please change your schemes or just go away. I'm really thinking about just not watching UM play anymore. I just have never seen a defense this bad!

To let a receiver get behind you in the end zone one time is a bad mistake but to let that happen twice is bad coaching and very bad playing. Why didn't they call a timeout on the last play just as they do with a field goal kicker?Friend or no friend change the defensive coach. We can't stop anyone.

I was at the game and I said it before, so I'll say it again...... There is NO PLAYER DEVELOPMENT on this team. Chickillo is tied for the team lead in sacks!?!? A freshman (Duke Johnson) keeps us in the game offensively!?!? no one (and I mean NO ONE) on defense has a clue on coverage. Too many times I saw mass substitutions on defense only to give up 3rd and long. I think we need to hear the critics of Randy Shannon to be equally harsh on Al Golden and his coaching staff because this looks similar to Shannon's tenure. I not going to say race is involve here, but why is it that Al is getting a pass when Randy was being question in his 3rd year?

It is what it is, just like all these idiots that want barack obama outta there, but when the worst of them all, the president before him, you didn't hear them ridiculing him like they are doing barack. Same with shannon and people will say "shannon's teams quit" naw, the oc/nipple quit on shannon and therefore the offensive players knew the plays nipple was calling weren't working.

If we had this same offense to go along with john lovett and company shannon would still be here. If john lovett was here, this defense would never have looked this crazy. This ain't temple where the talent was depleted, last year the excuse was "it's a new system, guys keep reverting back to their old habits" now this year, it's youth".

I can't wait to hear what next year's excuse is going to be if we running the same defense.

I don't have nothing against mike brown for the lakers, but i luv how they handled that situation, if you don't know what you're doing, GTFOH! jerry buss had enuff of that crap. Like mitch kupchak said, the players didn't know the offense to well, and like they said, they didn't know if the lakers were going to change for the better and they didn't want to wait 3 months t ofind out it wasn't going to be better".

mike brown going to the lakers is another classic case of a coach coaching to his system and not to the players around him. That's what goldie and this crew he brought in here are doing.

Guys like art kehoe and barrow, you can see the difference in the guys that they are coaching, including george mcdonald. I'm not giving the runningbacks coach credit for duke johnson. coach barrow also has special teams on point and they're improving as well. jedd fisch has alot of potential as being a real solid oc, goldie's boy, i've never seen a coordinator look as nervous as he does on the sidelines when calling the game, what happened to that same so called intense coach during games but he becomes a whimp during games.

Also, if i see him jumping up and down again after a victory, if i'm next to em i'm going to sprewell em!

I have been with Hurricane team for last 4 years in miami during my PhD and never missed UM game since then including today. It is really disappointing in fact that DC has no idear todya's game. I have watched him so far last two years and it seems he has no workable plans and schemes prepared and fit for this team. How long should we wait to see this hurricanes breakout ?

we have a bright future but honestly I cant wait for kevin olsen. Morris doesnt have great Football intellegience and he is really clumsy.

Please, Please fire this DC " right Now!! Let go the hold coaching staff and bring in Butch Davis!!

It sound like everyone has lost faith in this coaching staff! Please Let them go & please bring in Butch Davis. The hold program is in dismay!!

LISTEN THAT'S IT DEFENSE OF COORDINATOR
AS 2GO KNO MORE EXCUSES. YEA WE HAD PLAYER
MISSING THAT SHOULDN'T MATTER D-COORDINATOR
GOTTA GO NOW.

Memo to coach Golden: the splintering is well underway. UM has the worst defense in all of college football. The alumni and fan base are in utter disgust and disarray because of the worst DC we've ever seen. Not only is this shoddy D costing games but demoralizing the fans who are not buying tix and therefore costing UM big $$.

One of the main reasons oach OH-NO has to go, ok, i got tired of seeing shayon green of all people dropping back into coverage, but today, on a critical down he's asking curtis porter drop back into coverage, especially when once he came back, our d-line has been getting a decent pass rush and we're dropping him into coverage, lol, man, he can't GTFOH fast enuff!

Awesome game. It is crazy that Virginia owns UM, no matter how bad Virginia is they have UM's number. Well, UM still has a shot, the ACC is so pathetic this year they still have a shot at the championship game.

"u" said it. "Not even in superman's hands" and you don't leave it on that defense without going for it on fourth down in that field position. You have to ride your offense and you have to open up the play book at that point in the game with only a 5 point lead. What? Because they got a couple of stops late, they didn't think Virginia was going to open it up under 4 minutes when they had scored at will early!!! I don't blame the defense, they were badly wounded and playing inexperienced young backups - why put the game on them they had done their heroics - as best they could wounded as they were - at that point put it on the offense they had the horses to win the game if anyone did. That last offensive series made me sick. u+

Fire DODO-frio!

Simple my hardcore canes fan !!!!!! We need to put pressure on school pres , to rid of golden and his dwarf !! Then get a old school ex players to be a head coach with old school ex cane players as assistance. Anybody on mind ? #1 warren sapp , Clinton portis , Dan Morgan ,Michael Irvin,Gino torreta , ken Dorsey , assembly this type of old school player as a school coaches and you will see the we show up to the games every weekend !! . For sure . And I sure you the recruiting goona be #1 and matter of one year or less.

bsd decision by jedd to not try and end the game with a pass on 3rd and 6.. al should have intervened and called a pass, how do our secondary guys let 2 guys behind them on a short field, a 6.4 ray ray would have been huge as opposed to 5.10 guys. our worst coached game all year, we can make guys that wil never take a snap at quarterback in the nfl look like they belong in canton. all the power schools have one thing in common, heat on the qb, we cannot get close .

One of the main reasons oach OH-NO has to go, ok, i got tired of seeing shayon green of all people dropping back into coverage, but today, on a critical down he's asking curtis porter drop back into coverage, especially when once he came back, our d-line has been getting a decent pass rush and we're dropping him into coverage, lol, man, he can't GTFOH fast enuff!

pb, Porter covered a RB at least 4 times. We played base defense against a 4 WR set that included the RB also lining up wide making it a 5 wide look. We continue to have OLBs over slot WRs. Of course guys look lost. They are trying to match up against players they have no business trying to cover.

Shwarma, u gotta be kidding me.
If we put up 40 points against UVA, that should be more than enough. Point blank. End of discussion.
What about this scheme lets you know how its supposed to be executed?
The truth is the scheme itself prevents proper execution. You cant stop certain things against the pass if your secondary is playing 10 yards off every play. You also cannot stop them if your d-linemen are taking up blocks instead of rushing. You cant even name another team, pro or college, that plays a similar style and is anywhere near dominant.
Stop acting like this guy is Dick Lebeau or Jim Johnson. This guy aint even Vick Fangio, who coached Stanford’s defense under Harbaugh and now coaches the 49ers. And fill free to check out how good the 49ers is. If Stanford can get a DC that good, why cant we?
The offense is conservative? LOL. No, the defensive scheme is........

Golden is a good coach and the team plays hard, but that d is lost. How many of you would fire your best friend? I wouldn't want to be golden right now.

All of these post have A LOT of TRUTH. Golden has the rest of this year and next. If no change then the coaching change is in ORDER. He is not going to fire his boy D'Onofrio, and that will cost him his job!! And to this statement I do find A LOT of truth "UM football/baseball has deteriorated since she became Pres in 2001" You know the saying "until you are sick and tired of being sick and tired you will not do anything!!!"
I tired of talking about this!!!!!

This old skool Cane right here, this is exactly what we need somebody to do to the guy who's suppose to be in charge of running/coordinating our defense here:

Too funny

Do anyone has Al Goldedn email address. I must email him about his sorry D-Coordinator. Fire him now

UM is not the place for young coaches training. What I see is that they are trying to get some experience for them not for our school. Are U kidding me? I am sick of what they say after losing game. I do see they are really losers not our players. I am proud of our players. One more on our QB morris, please try to be smart not be strong? What the fumble is that? I really want to see Olsen asap in QB competition...

Iam a true fan and for the first time i must say miami wont be back till we get a real coaching staff and you wonder why so many recruits are ready to say goodbye

why is it that miami had no one rushing the quarterback on the last play that gave virginia the lead, and why does the defense constantly give the recievers so big of cushion, this happens every game, and is the main reason the they give up so much in the secondary, totally disgracefull, and not the defensre the U should be playing.the canes have a long way to go
before they can even think they deserve a bowl bid!!

I'm not interested in the D-coordinator dismissal.
I'm interested in his execution (literally).
We need a new D-coordinator.
And to those who say we are young, we're not young anymore.
10 games into the season, and the same mistakes are being made.
It's scheme, which is COACHING!!!
Stop accepting excuses, require excellence!
Go Canes!

Appreciate you nash, lol, esteban knows football too, you too. It's sickening though, we wait all this time to get curtis porter back only to have him playing in the secondary, come on, that's the sign right their that this guy is clueless. I guess in the next raising Cane video, coach goldie will have another mystery split lip and scratched up face, won't be long before he has to go to his boy again.

This must be how coach golide went to oach OH-NO last time:

http://youtu.be/xFJThMDLYM4

Why did the article say "assuming Bush will be back"? He is a freshman with a bright future. I can't imagine him leaving after only one year. What's up?

Players might transfer after sanctions. I wouldn't want to stay and play for these idiots.

We can't get a pass rush because the de ends are covering c Thompson in the flats. We finally get out best pass rushing tackle on to put him in pass coverage. Receivers go sit down in the middle of the field and are constantly open. I guess this why we substitute on third down to bring them in to give up a first down. I predicted this young team to go 9-3 this year and it has been hard to watch this coaching staff foul up this team. I like Jedd Fisch until we get down into critical game management. We left about 30 seconds on the clock while we're supposed to be running the clock out. The philosophy of this coaching staff has to go before the totally retard this young team. I was excited about us playing in the acc ship but know I don't want to see us get embarrassed on national tv. Get a win somewhere and put us ought of our misery. The worst part about this is that this team is much better than what they have displayed.

really tough loss. can only judge this coach by next year and his fourth year. This year it's all growing pains, especially on the road. I think they win next week at home and lose to Duke on the road. Just the way it is. Next year we'll have a real solid squad.

I ALWAYS HEARD THAT THEIR IS A LOT OF POLITICS IN THIS GAME. THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE! THIS COACHING STAFF DID NOT WANT THIS GAME. THAT'S RIGHT! THEY DID NOT WANT THIS GAME BECAUSE THEY WANT THE DUKE GAME TO NOT MATTER AS THEY WILL TAKE THEIR BOWL BAN AGAIN THIS YEAR! THEY ARE BANKING ON THAT BEING ENOUGH TO ABLE TO CONTINUE IN THE FUTURE. WELL WHAT BETTER TEAM TO LOSE TO THAN VIRGINIA, WHOSE ONLY BOWL GAME EVERY YEAR IS TO BEAT MIAMI! IF THIS GAME WAS FOR THE PLAYERS THAN YOU WOULD HAVE PUT THE GAME AWAY WHEN YOU KNEW THAT THE DEFENSE COULD NOT STOP THEM AND THEIR DEFENSE COULD NOT STOP YOU! DUKE HAD 150 YARDS RUSHING AND HAD JUST GAVE YOU GREAT FIELD POSITION FOLLOWING THE SAFETY! YET THE COACHES KNEW THAT EVEN A COUPLE OF 1ST DOWNS AND A FIELD GOAL WOULD HAVE MADE IT MORE DIFFICULT FOR THEIR BUDDY(LONDON) TO OVERCOME. THIS DEFENSE HASN'T STOP ANYBODY ALL YEAR! RUN THE DAMN BALL ALL 4 DOWNS UNTIL YOU GET THE 1ST DOWN. NOW THE PLAYER KNOW THEY(COACHES) BLEW IT AND MAY NOW NOT CARE ANYMORE! THEIR EFFORT TODAY OF REFUSING TO LOSE NEEDED THE HELP OF COACHES TO PUT THEM IN RIGHT POSITION TO MAKE PLAYS AND TO CALL THE RIGHT PLAYS! NOW NEXT WEEK THE COACHES EXPECT THESE GUYS TO COME BACK PLAY HARD AND WIN! THEY MIGHT! OR THEY MAY NOT BECAUSE THEY KNOW THIS STAFF DOES NOT INTEND TO PLAY IN A BOWL THIS YEAR! WIN NEXT WEEK AND WATCH THEM LOSE TO DUKE! THEN AFTER THE SEASON WATCH GOOD PLAYERS START TO TRANSFER IF COACHING CHANGES ARE NOT DONE(ESPECIALLY DC AND DL). THIS GAME THEY REALLY SCREWED UP THE PLAYER'S HEADS AND POSSIBLY THE DIRECTION OF THE PROGRAM! REMEMBER PLAYERS PLAY NOT COACHES BUT COACHES DECIDES WHO PLAYS AND HOW WE'RE GOING TO PLAY! THIS IS WHY THIS OUTCOME REST SOLELY ON THE COACHES! THEY SHOULD BE SUSPENDED!

NOW I GUESS THE DECISION TO NOT GO TO A BOWL GAME IS EASIER HU! WELL YES MAYBE IT IS BUT THIS LOSS IS MORE DAMAGING THAN IT MAY APPEAR ON THE SURFACE. GOLDEN KNOWS THE COACHES LET THIS TEAM DOWN! NOW HE'S WORRIED IF HE HAS LOST HIS PLAYERS. HE SHOULD BE WORRIED BECAUSE THIS STAFF SEEMS TO CARE MORE ABOUT HOW IT LOOKS TO THE ADMINISTRATION INSTEAD OF HOW IT PERFORMS ON THE FIELD! YOU WANT THE FANS TO SHOW UP BUT YOU LOSE TO YOUR BUDDY(VIRGINIA) EVERY YEAR! YOU WANT PLAYERS TO COME TO MIAMI BUT YOUR DEFENSIVE STYLE SUCKS! NO ADJUSTMENTS JUST EXCUSES! YOU KEEP SUBSTITUTING BUT WHAT FOR WHEN YOU BRING IN A PLAYER NOT BETTER THAN THE ONE YOU LEFT IN! THE PLAYERS ON DEFENSE ALL YEAR HAVE COMPLAINED AND COMPLAINED TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT BUT NO ONE LISTENS! THE PLAYERS HAVE TRIED TO BUY IN AND YET ON A GAME THEY LOOKED TO THE STAFF TO MAKE THE RIGHT CALL THE COACHES DID NOT! THIS TEAM SHOULD HAVE EASILY WON 9 GAMES THIS YEAR! NOW THEY WILL BE LUCKY TO WIN 6. KEEP TALKING ABOUT THE FUTURE BUT YET WE DON'T HAVE A QB AFTER MORRIS LEAVE! IF THE BACKUP WAS ANY GOOD HE WOULD HAVE PLAYED AGAINST FLA ST! BUT THERE IS AN ANSWER TO EVERYTHING! 1. WIN THE NEXT TWO FOR THE PLAYERS PUT THE ACC COASTAL DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP BANNER UP FOR THE TEAM. 2. TAKE THE BOWL BAN AND THAT WAY NEXT YEAR THE PLAYERS WILL FIGHT FOR OVERALL ACC CHAMPIONSHIP! 3. FIRE DC AND D-LINE COACH. 4. KEEP PORTER AND HENDERSON FROM GOING PRO AND KEEP PLAYERS HAPPY AND NOT LETTING THEM TRANSFER. DO THAT AND THIS TEAM CAN WIN 10-11 GAMES EASILY NEXT YEAR AND NC THE YEAR AFTER THAT IF YOU CAN DEVELOP GOOD PASS RUSH AND D-LINE PLAY. FAILURE TO DO THESE THINGS AND GOLDEN WILL BOLT TO ANOTHER PROGRAM AFTER SCREWING UP THIS ONE. D'OFRIO MUST GO! LET'S START THE CHANT AND KEEP IT UP UNTIL HE IS DISMISSED!

6-6 and 5-5. Still no progress. RS was 9-4 and 7-6 the last 2 years. Going backwards. And now sanctions. This is just the way it is now folks. Time to change expectations and attitudes, and view football like basketball - follow them and hope they do really well once every four years, but that's it. That's okay. About 90 other programs in D-IA enjoy football like this, time we get more humble.

Although, even middling teams don't have to put up with horrific defense like this. I was watching Army play Rutgers, and even though Army never wins, they looked tough. And they hung in there. And they didn't get blown out. Id rather have a 4-8 team like that, then a 7-6 gang of non-takling, offsides, false start, underachievers.

Do any of the big mouthed fans whing here actually go to games at Sun Life?

Wow...what a ride...must say, i was most angry in the.game on the second to.last drive...champions run the ball with duke there and game.over....maybe that shows how low expectations are for our defensive execution...two.points for goldens assistant and one for golden...it the arrangment is for cooridnaters to.call time outs, where is the ownership al....now, al, make a card with percentages for.fisch...that second to last drive....ninty percent runnish....get it....ok ten percent wild cat....and dc, go three man down and three saftys...if oc know the.scheme, 600 yards...but.louiville was running man all day, maybe nc heel said.best...undisciplined football

Maybe UM should replace the football program with a men's soccer program!

If sanctions are severe-this program will be dead for the next 10 years-

Golden is not an elite coach-his best friend is the worst DC in Miami history-

There are question marks everywhere-

On game days Golden does not have a clue-he was out coached today.

The only way you get out of this mess is to hire an elite coach that has proven they can build D-1 programs into championship quality.

Two names come to mind Jim Tressel and Bobby Petrino-I know -I know-

The UM administration will never consider them.

Fire d'nofrio and fire him now. If Golden can't/won't fire him also.

Do the high school players in the Miami area realize how great they would make the Hurricanes if they stayed home? As a unit, they can dominate the like in the 80's and 90's, but by individually going to different schools around the country, they accomplish nothing. Get together, realize what you could collectively accomplish, then decide to make your own legacy, instead of just joining some team you have never cared about.
