UM Canes point guard Shane Larkin named to Bob Cousy Award watch list

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – University of Miami sophomore point guard Shane Larkin has been named to the 2013 Bob Cousy Award watch list, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Thursday.

Larkin is one of seven ACC point guards on the watch list. The Cousy Award, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtics great Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guard in men’s college basketball.

More than 80 candidates were nominated for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award. Through eight games, Larkin is averaging 14.8 points and 4.1 assists in 35.4 minutes, while shooting 55 percent from the floor (44-of-80), 51.7 percent from 3-point range (15-of-29) and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (15-of-18).

The watch list of candidates will be narrowed down over the next three months; the final 20 is slated to be announced Jan. 1, while the final 10 will be unveiled Feb. 1. The final five Cousy Award candidates will be announced by March 1.

A premier selection committee has been appointed by the Hall of Fame to review the final five candidates in contention for the nation’s top collegiate point guard award.

Riding a six-game win streak, the Miami Hurricanes resume play Saturday at the 2012 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu. Miami (7-1) opens against host Hawai`i on ESPNU at 12:30 a.m. ET (Dec. 23)/7:30 p.m. HST (Dec. 22).

Go canes!!

one more scorer/slasher and we are good.

Didn't the 'Canes just get Adonys something-or-other from Orlando? 5-star basketball recruit? Does the Herald have anything on this?

A little concerning with what Larranaga has done in recruiting. The guy from Princeton NJ is supposed to be good, and Larkin was great, but after this year the 'Canes lose 6! seniors. Six! That's half the team. And the only people Larranaga has brought in is Larkin and Jerkiri. He be better get moving. UM might be awful next year.

Im sorry, but Swoope and Okpajori and cuttin it.

not to go off topic. But when the heck are we gonna learn what the ncaa has on miami or doesn't have. I for one am getting tired of this dragging on and on.

Mainecane, I am right with U. There should be a time limit in which they the NCAA has to go ahead a devulge any allegations against a program. This is ridiculous how long this crap has dragged on. If they can't get their information to the supposed offending party then it should be nulled. It's kinda funny to me that they can have a father basically admit that he basically pimped his son out to the highest bidder, allow the kid to play in the National Title gameand not penalize that school at all and rule on it quickly for certain schools of certain conferences but if a school is not one of their traditional favorites they try to screw them over has long and hard as they can.

The NCAA is purposely dragging their feet as this routine is an extremely severe form of punishment. This will make 3 years of recruiting that they’ve allowed this investigation to hang over our heads. Once again, this is by design, not an accident or the need for this ridiculous amount of time to conduct their biased investigation.

I just think they should know if the stuff is true out not by now. I mean come on. This is killing recruiting this year. Everyone was saying that allegations should be made public by now, So im just getting pissed, Maybe miami fans should band together and sue the ncaa over this crap, A class action suit that forces the ncaa to be at least quick in there investigation, I feel really bad for golden on this the poor guy has had to give up 3 postseason games already, lost practice time and is recruiting against the negative stuff all the time. Once this is over if he stays i can't imagine what knd of classes he can get.

Can't believe it's taken this long.

Merry Christmas to all of you who bleed orange and green.

I also hope "Nevin S" is right about Butch Davis; is the "S" for Shapiro??? Hahahaha. Butch Davis is a way better coach then Houston Nut, and recruiter. Since Pete Garcia likes the National Attention (ala Isiah, or Pitino), the whole theory that they are waiting for the Bama/ND is possible. I think they might also be waiting for the sanctions to hit UM. We all know that for FIU to be something, its more than just getting a coach. You need the players, that is why Butch Davis is so key. Butch can look a player in the eye, and tell them they can go the NFL if they go to FIU. Cristobal, if he was lucky was only able to get max 1 or 2 of those players per year, and that is what he would have always been able to do. I think Butch can get 8-9 of those players per year. If he stays at FIU for the long run, he can get 12-20 has he once did at UM. Recruiting is 24/7, 365. FIU needs to work on getting those players that are considering UM to come to FIU, It's been over 10 years since UM has won anything. The kids in H.S, middle school, and pop-warner dont have a loyalty for UM as they once had. The kids in Miami-Dade County know about the good things that are happening at FIU. FIU is growing into a University that has become a viable option for an Elite athlete to go. Great City, Great Campus, Great Academic Programs, Great Students. It is not a hard sell. Kids these days are all about going somewhere new. Look at college football today. If this has been the plan all along, then Pete Garcia needs a raise.

BTW, what is up with UM playing FAU next year? Are you kidding me? Wow, talk about being insecure about your program huh, UM? Your guys are a bunch of vaginas.

A bunch of vaginas huh? Well.......well....... since your into name calling, then, you are nothing but a wang!! So there!!!

FI who? These guys were talking the same frap 2 years ago and it all fell apart.

You will find definitely plenty of details like that to take into consideration. That's an excellent point to bring up. I provide the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly you'll find questions like the 1 you bring up where probably the most vital factor is going to be working in honest superb faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged around things like that, but I'm certain that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment's pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
