Unfortunate news for the Miami Hurricanes: OC Jedd Fisch leaves UM for same position at Jacksonville Jaguars

We all knew this would happen eventually.

I, for one, was hoping it wouldn't happen this season, but, naturally, not convinced that it wouldn't.

Hurricanes offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch, all-around good person, smart person, great communicator and teacher -- not to mention well-loved by his present and former players -- has left the University of Miami to become an offensive coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Great hire by the Jaguars. Big loss for the Hurricanes.

The breaking news, first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, came on the same day Miami quarterback of the future Kevin Olsen is visiting the Coral Gables campus with his parents. Kevin really likes Jedd Fisch, as well as Coach Al Golden, and repeatedly has said the coaches are a big reason he's strongly committed to the Canes.

Fisch did wonders with Stephen Morris, and former quarterback Jacory Harris for that matter. But we all had a strong feeling he wanted to return one day to the NFL.

So now, in between hosting recruits today and dealing with the NCAA issues, Golden has to find an offensive coordinator that will make everyone feel willing to keep their commitment.

Hurricanes fans must feel like punching bags by now.

sorry pea...class of 1979, you like most here are new to UM and cane history....I hate to see what this team has come to....and you praise a guy that leaves the day before the most important recruiting day for 2013...you act as if it OK....he put himself before the team...fine..do what you have to do, but I am not going to throw roses at your feet like you do as he is leaving....like I've said....F.....CK HIM

good point emil: the guy looks like a jerk with that stupid look on his face arms crossed against the goal post...what a poser....

downward spiral continues. Mario Cristobal as the OC will be the final nail in the coffin.

Congratulations Coach Fisch. You don't owe anyone anything. Your first responsibility is to your family. Best wishes always. The reality of it is if you have outstanding talent, and you hire a competent replacement then everything will be just fine. It is not as if someone is going into a nine hour surgery for their heart or brain. Just hire a suitable replacement and keep moving forward.

Idiot Jim Gallo, So Pete had no trouble in firing MC huh. Did you see who he hired, Ron Turner with a .034 winning percentage at his 2 college HC stop. That made a lot of sense. Do you really know how stupid you sound. What a morn.

Idiot Jim Gallo, it was ok for Fisch to leave, he's bettering his himself. What you do is congratulate him. tell recruits that your OC got an NFL job because he did a good job here, and that you find an equally good OC. This happens all the time. Stanford just lost their OC to the NFL a day ago. If you think this is something new Jim, you don't know football.......very evident from your posts.

My son is a Gaytor fan and just a troll trying to cause trouble. He has been upet ever since Nick Saban and Alabama made Timmy Tebow cry on the sideline. Please forgive him, all he has is this board to vent on from his basement.

Good luck Coach! Thank you for coming to the U when we were down and for trying to build us back up. I wish you nothing but good luck and success in your next stop and throughout your career.

mike your an idiot...you think it is easy to hire at FIU...please ron turner is a good pickup and a much better coach than Mario....he has tons of experience....the point it Garcia was serious and made a move against a local hero....that takes guts...someone that will not settle for mediocrity...

our stats are worse....no ad, worst recruiting class on record....13-11, #117 defense...ru in dreamland?

time to clean this house out...golden too, lets start fresh...get a big name in here..pay all the money....this aint working

Everythings going to be alright! It's only football, not world peace.

I know football a lot...jedd didn't have to go at all...plenty of nfl positions today and in the future, there always are....he was supposed to be committed to UM like golden said everyone was....to build the brand back up....then 2 years later he bolts...

wait let me guess....its all randy shannons fault or larry coker

Jimmy didn't I tell you to mow the lawn and get off the internets! Sorry your gaytors got manhandled by Louisville.

Constant coaching changes are a ‘normal’ part of today’s football. Look at Oregon, FSU, Florida, etc.

The world has not come to an end for the Canes due to Jedd’s promotion, not even close. You cannot blame a guy for following his dream and that‘s what we are seeing, not an indictment against the Canes or due to the NCAA investigation.

Had Jedd made a sideways move and joined another college football program as their offensive coordinator then that would have been a shot into the side of the Canes. Again, the man was given a HUGE promotion and his dream was realized to be a NFL offensive coordinator.

As for the timing of the move? The timing is NEVER good and it is this time of year that college football and the NFL coaches plays musical chairs.

Who knows, maybe Mario Cristobal will be named the new offensive coordinator, which would be fine with me.

Al Golden has the Canes on an upward trajectory and the coming years will be a lot of fun.

Good luck Jedd!

Everythings going to be alright. It's football not world peace.

I liked Fisch...I'm trying to justify this as ok for us.
How about us averaging only 12 ppg vs the three ranked teams we played?

Lol he is a gator fan. There is no way he is a canes fan. Canes fans know if golden wanted to leave he coud of , For some good schools. Tennesee, arkansas, and wisconsin all came after him and he stayed. If he wont leave for them why would he leave at all. As for firing him or his staff please. He has done a good job rebuilding. This team should be a 10 win team regularly if scholly reductions dont hurt to much for a while, Golden has set that up . as for the d please no team in the country started more true freshman on d.

Correct, Jimmy just gets upset when he sees the momentum your program has. He knows that year after year the Gaytors are going to be made Nick Saban's girlfriend and this is why Urban left his team...he knew he could never win the SEC as long as Saban was there. Also, he is pretty mad that his team got DESTROYED by Louisville.

sorry tcu had more freshman on defense and the team as a whole than UM...they ranked #16 in defense....as for rebuilding golden rebuilt nothing....everyone on the offense except Johnson was a Shannon recruit...

Anthony Chickillo? is this the recruit that has zero up field push and cant handle a double team at all or a defensive line that is horrible?

THANKS COACH FISCH FOR A GOOD JOB YOU DONE HERE AND MUCH SUCCESS IN NFL UNLESS YOU'RE PLAYING THE DOLPHINS. FOR ALL THAT FISCH NEVER THREW A PASS, NEVER BLOCKED ANYONE,NEVER CAUGHT A PASS,NEVER SCORE A POINT SO WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? SOME OF US FAIL TO REALIZE THAT PLAYERS MAKE PLAYS!! THE CANES ARE LOADED ON OFFENSE NEXT YEAR REGARDLESS OF WHO CALLS THE PLAYS OR WHATEVER IS CALLED. MORRIS IS A SENIOR WHO KNOWS HIS TEAMMATES AND CAN CHECK OFF TO ANY PLAY HE THINKS WILL WORK BASED ON WHAT HE SEES. WHOEVER THE NEW OC WILL BE I JUST HOPE HE IS A PASS ORIENTED COACH WHO BELIEVES IN GETTING THE BALL DOWN THE FIELD. THERE ARE GOOD OC OUT THERE WE JUST NEED A GOOD ONE WHO USES THE SPEED WE HAVE TO OUR ADVANTAGE. EVERY ONE SEEMS TO FORGET THIS POINT. WITH A NEW OC IT MAKES IT HARDER TO PREPARE FOR US NOW BECAUSE TEAMS HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE OFFENSE WILL RUN AS OF YET. NOW YOU CAN'T GO INTO SPRING OR FALL KNOWING WHAT THE CANE OFFENSE IS ABOUT EXCEPT TALENT. JUST IMPROVE ON DEFENSE AND WE WIN 10/11 GAMES EASY. GO CANES F..K GALLO!! 2013 ACC CHAMPS!!

Jedd Fisch statement: "I want to thank President [Donna] Shalala, Athletic Director Blake James, Coach [Al] Golden, the coaching staff and all of the incredible student-athletes that I have come in contact with since joining the program [in] January 2011. There are 32 NFL Offensive Coordinator jobs and the opportunity to become the Jacksonville Jaguars Offensive Coordinator this year was based on all of the successes our program has had in the past two years. I am so excited to watch the Miami Hurricane and Jacksonville Jaguar football teams compete for and win championships this year and the years to come. There is no doubt that this program is one of the premiere in the country and I am grateful that I can always say I am part of the Hurricane Family.”

I miss you Tim Tebow!!!

Golden should promote Terry Richardson and hire a QB coach in order to maintain continuity with the offense. TR is a great recruiter in the South Florida area. Black parents would love this move.

Jim Gallo if you had been around UM since 1979 you would know that they never won with high paying established coaches, they brought in guys on the rise to make their own legacies.

F__K Jedd Fisch for leaving for the NFL?

F*ck you, you're one of the worst sports fans I've ever come across, a spoiled little brat crying about 18-21 year old college students who you can't get vicarious self esteem through anymore.

Get a life because THIS, posting your ignorant, misinformed, miserable rantings all day every day, is no kind of way to live.

No worries, we'll just shift Coach D'onofrio to Offensive Coordinator. If his defenses were that porous, just think how great his offense will be...
Joking of course, Go Canes!

What a great statement from Fisch.

Class act.

Look, those who've been follow Miami football for the past 10 to 15 years, Miami always was NFL product, players and coaches.Every NFL teams have at least one or two Hurricane in its roster.Coaches come and go,Miami will be NFL pipeline.A G knows how to recruit, we'll be fine,we are in South Florida where the best High School reside.

As a Head Coach, the objective is to hire the best possible assistant coaches, and if you do, they are more than likely going to be recruited by other teams... The fact that the offer came from the NFL is a validation that Golden successfully hired great talent. Instead of bemoaning this news, we should all be praising Golden for a great hire. And most recently, he hired Mario Cristobal. Golden is proving that he's a heck of Head Coach and Leader. Thank you Coach Golden for being great at your craft. Please stick around and continue to build a great program that has the ability to reload/restock with great talent - coaches and players. You da man!

Dumb Jim Gallo, Jim 1st of all, of course he had to go, an NFL OC probably makes 800k to 1.5m, a U OC makes quite a bit less. Secondly as far as FIU is concerned, you don't replace a coach that has had success with one that hasn't. Garcia did a very stupid thing, he didn't have a replacement for ready. It wasn't a gutsy move, it was a very stupid move. Fisch's move was very smart, bad for the U, but smart. No one should blame him for leaving for a position that pays him much more money. You show haw little you know with each post. Really man I feel for you, you don't know how stupid you sound.

BornCane, great post/

If no one wants your assistant coaches, you shouldn't want them either.

Get Chad Pennington. Has NFL experience. He is a student of the game and can teach it. Had more football smarts than talent as a player. He is young and has the charachteristics and background that will appeal to recruits and their families.

jim gallo, calm down man, jedd leaving like he did, now goldie knows how ray ray armstrong, gionni paul, finnie and the rest of the ones goldie tried to let go, got exposed with that kelvin cain situation, lol.

jedd leaving right now is kind of funny to me, lol. If goldie got blind sided, maybe this'll help him understand how to treat other situations different. He'll be crying again. I'm starting to wonder if guys want to work for coach goldie now. Cause when you think about it, we all know why coach kehoe and coach barrow are here, UM to the fullest, and we also know why oach OH-NO is here, nobody wants him so he can only go where goldie takes him. brennan carrol, means nothing, he hasn't proven he can actually coach.

Now which unit is coach goldie going to run and hide with this year, last year he tried to make i seem like he had a lot to do with the offense(of course that was the most positive side of the team), come this year, i'm sure it'll be special teams, but like i said it a post some time back, if i was one of the offensive coaches, no way goldie could've even seem like he was trying to address something on offense that he thought needed to be fixed when you got a defense ranked 117th.

The main reason i liked jedd being here was because he was the best oc we've had here in a while now. But i didn't like the fact that we were running what seemed like an old version of the Fsu offenses, and just leaving maurice haggens on the bench for basically redzone and goal-line situations.

Also, goldie saying when mario got hired "jedd fisch will still be the oc and calling the plays" that statement right their never made sense to me and i'm sure jedd was thinking, i smell a rat, time to go. If shannon was the headcoach people would be blaming him left and right for people leaving, lol. I think if mario became the oc though, we'd get back to our more traditional offense, this move hurts smo17 more than anything though, but the coaching carousel is in full effect.

Also, i never feel bad when an ex gaytor leaves, those guys are always suspect to me, if it was up to me, jedd would've never been here just off that alone, no matter what good anybody has to say about em. Let's see goldie take over the offense and make those decisions now too, since he was trying to somehow take credit for the success the offense was having!

Where's Randy Shannon? Lol Shannon had trouble luring top Coordinatoors to The Canes. Al Golden will face those troubles. UM is a pit stop for coaches seeking bigger paydays. No AD, No OC and the NCAA violations looming. Its going to be one of the toughest recruiting seasons for the Canes.

Gallo are you a Gators fan?

I tell you what, the best thing coach goldie can do and it's simple, we don't need to be out here trying to outbid guys for this rotating coordinators, we need to go back to our roots, all goldie needs to do now is bring back don soldinger, the time is ripe. Let soldinger be the oc, don will make sure our offense is on point, plus he can take over the runningbacks as well. Either way and however it is we need to get soldinger back in the fold.

If you already had to reach back and get kehoe, kept barrow and got mario, only 2 moves left to make, bring shannon back to be the d-co and and soldinger back and just figure it out from their. Plus you wouldn't have to worry about these guys going anywhere. soldinger could've left Miami along time ago, he's not interested in leaving Miami, shannon would come back with the quickness, and we'll be right back where we're suppose to be, with a coaching staff that's here for the long haul.

In fact, hell, if they don't bring soldinger in for the oc job, call sonny lubick and see what he's doing. The funny thing is, the 2 guys shannon wanted, trestman is now the headcoach of the bears and dirk koetter is just got a contract extension with the Atlanta falcons til 2014, lol.

The main thing is, goldie needs to repent for his sins(ray ray, vaughn telemaque, travis williams, gionni, finnie, luther, tracy, cain, and others, if not, he'll continue to have to go thru these trials and tribulations.

indiy499 Seems Jacksonville does want our assistants. Didn't they just hire Fisch. God, really.

Yo cane trash

U know of all the coaches U had lately, Fisch was the only one worth a dime. He is the only one to leave for a better job.
All the others were either fired or moved laterally.
Even the ADs moved laterally.
It all means UM is a big dUmp and everyone is trying to get the heck out.
Good for Fisch
The one and only former cane coach to leave as a promotion.
The one and only phase of the team that worked now has no leader.
How long is Golden Retriever gonna take to find someone else?
Just promote Mario and get it over with, no one else will come from the outside.
BTW, indiy499, good to hear that I'm Ur fave. Now don't get all stoopid on me like all Ur fellow loosers on this site U hear.
Bunch of pathetic LOOSERS!!

That was his point Mike, i think you just responded wrong.

Oh shut the hell up already Calvin. You or Gallo don't know sh4t about football or Miami. You two are just two little b8tches that are scared to death about what we are going to do to your little p8ssy Gaytors next year. And Gallo all U and your black panther wanna be Calvin know is how to read a stat sheet, which is just about what every other woman knows how to do. Which is nothing.

JF had an opportunity to leave for a better job. That is what one tries to do. He did a remarkable job with S Morris. Give him some credit. AG will hire an OC
if he does not offer to Cristobal. The UM will overcome this. As someone else said if this were Ala then everyone would be congratulating the school and the individual. AG is an intelligent and very competitive individual. In the long run we will be better. Count on it.

fire the staff, that will be real smart, people, Fisch took a paycut to come to Miami, the guy have a family to feed, and Miami isnt a cheap place to live, what what was he making $350 to $375 per year? Come on, this not a negative, this is a selling point that the NFL is still looking at all hurricanes for professional careers!

Screw cap Gallo, how is the mantindo game doing for you?

hey jim gallo, you want them to lie to recruits? that would be a low life....he did the honest thing and people will appreciate it, except for you I guess.

now go get butch davis to run this offense

Thank God! Jedd sucked!

nobody said to lie to anyone...just stay committed like you and golden said you were when you took the position....you were already in the NFL for 9 years....so this is not an "opportunity"...if you still wanted to be in the NFL you should have passed on UM....then you depart at the worst possible time with the only window left to SAVE one of the worst recruiting in UM history....you bolt.....no problem saying....F.....ck Y....u
