3-star Virginia athlete Ryheem Lockley added to UM's 2013 signing class Tuesday

The University of Miami has confirmed the addition of Virginia Middlesex athlete Ryheem Lockley to its 2013 signing class.

Lockley (6-4, 220) picked UM over Virginia, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia and is expected to play tight end or wide receiver at Miami.

Lockley committed to Miami on Feb. 3 following his official visit, but did not sign his letter of intent on Signing Day as the UM staff was unsure whether or not they would have room for him. His academic situation also remains an issue.

“It’s looking like they’re going to be able to get him in 2013,” Middlesex head coach Josh Franke told InsideTheU.com. “The last thing we are waiting on are his SAT results. It seems like it's a good possibility (that he'll get in to UM this year)."

Lockley ran for 1,034 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns with 598 receiving yards and eight touchdowns as a senior in his first year playing wide receiver. Prior to this season, Lockley was the starting quarterback for three seasons. On defense he totaled 50 tackles with two sacks and one interception playing safety, linebacker, cornerback, and defensive end.

He is also a standout basketball player averaging over 30 points a game and is a two-time all-state performer.
Lockley is a three-star prospect ranked 23rd in the state of Virginia according to 247Sports.

Hola Soldy! Entertaining to watch these clucks get all stuff about their done nothing hoops team. 1st round exit? 2nd round?

OH MY GOD UM IS RANKED #3!!!!

((((Crickets)))))

We have an over abundance of tight ends, and wide receivers...
Needed to zero in on boosting our D, and adding depth to our D.
That is a priority.

Go 'Canes

It sounds like he could be a sleeper...he would probably be rated higher if he wasn't playing so many positions. ..good pick up..Welcome to the U.

Great Canes teams of the past were built on blue-collar, 3 star kids who were athletic.

This kid fit that mold. Once he gets placed into a position and focuses his skills, i think he'll be a star for us.

looks like he may be a good fit just have to wate and see the U has in the past and even last year devloped good players.we are the U and ready to show it com on ncaa hit us with your best shot we always come back fighting GO CANES. watch out for our hoops keep up the great work!!!!!

I'd like to see him play safety. Nevertheless, he seems like the complete package. WELCOME TO THE U!!

CANE4LIFE

The OC last year did not do a good job of developing and rotating our TE's. Just another typical case of not knowing players well enough.

JJ stockpiled so many superstar players, when they got in da game there was no need for development.

WONDER IF WE CAN USE HIM @ OLB? WE NEED TO TOUGHIN UP OUR D AND GET SOME KILLER DT'S & LB'S. GOLDEN IS WORKING HIS TAIL OFF THOUGH. GO CANES!

I'm still waiting for da next willie Smirh to surface at UM. Smith was from Carol City and was hands down the best TE EVER to don a UM uniform

Willie Smith

MANNY AND SUSAN!

Did you read the Herald's statement on their commenting policy? This blog should require people to sign in, maybe not Facebook profiles but at least having to register one email with one username to comment.

I would prefer no comments section in the Miami Hurricanes blog to the embarrassing, obsessive trolling back and forth here.

"In print, we have carefully articulated viewpoints, signed by the author. Online, anonymous posts often devolve into a volley of name-calling.

These caustic comments would never be printed in The Miami Herald. We believe they shouldn’t appear on our website.

Beginning Monday, readers who want to comment on stories posted on MiamiHerald.com will be required to log in using a Facebook account. We believe that anyone who has something to say should be willing to put their name to it.

For years, we have wrestled with this dilemma. Tens of thousands of users comment on our online stories each year, a virtual town hall that at its best creates robust community conversations on important issues. Too often, however, the rational voices are scared off. It is one of the complaints we most often hear about our website."

I don't know about Goldie working his tail off or how else do you explain not getting any DT's, a definite position of need. How do you go OHFER, at that position?
Any stiff can coach running backs, Hurlie Brown, Bobby Brown, the late James Brown. Hell, you just tell them to run to day light and try not to get flattened along the way. Mario, was an x O-linemen and is now coaching TE's and Caroll is an x-TE coaching WR's. Odd combo's, I'll admit. I guess we don't need Carroll as Nat'l recruiting coordinator, since we aren't recruiting nationally and maybe had we been recruiting nationally we would of gotten a DT.

Woot Woot Arty !!!

5shipsago: That's benen part of the problem with "Goldy's "team." UM is not going after those players in the Muck like they used to. U know, the guys down there chasing wabbits and actually catching them. The state of Florida has enough second tier athletes at every position for UM to get some stellar defensive recruits, but that hasn't happened.

I like Hurley and know Hurley, but he's not the right person to coach RB's. I don't like Mario at TE coach. I don't think U throw Hurley in a coaching position that involves one of the nation's best RB's. I'm not sure what "Goldy's long range plan is, but is does not include winning and his past football record shows it.

It sounds like he could be a sleeper...

That shoUld work out great for U since more than half (over 25 stiffs) of the 2-**-3-*** dUds Goldie has signed the last 2 years, couldn't even make most Top-20 Programs roster and they'll be comatose and inactive on the sidelines their entire []_[] careers...

It's the new []_[] Thang... We gotz 40 2 n 3 Stars which adds up to more than 20 4 n 5 Stars.

We have an over abundance of tight ends, and wide receivers...

Needed to zero in on boosting our D, and adding depth to our D.

Get Ur ResUme in early before Goldie bolts on U after 2013.

Is there such thing as a 6 T.E. Offensive Set ?

Hes rated as an athlete, and regardless of positon, was between #21 -35 on all the sites as the best player in Virginia. Bascially the 23rd best by 247 sports which averages all of them. And to what was said above, because he played multi positions that sometimes lowers ur rating because you didnt solo in 1 area. A top 25 out of virginia??? Thats exactly with Butch Davis Said in his article 2 weeks ago, to quote"""he skipped the 5 star guys"" he loved the 3 star guys that were athletic and played multi sports. Well. hes a 3 star guy, an athlete, and scores 30 a game in basketball. WELCOME TO THE U

Here's Rivals link to him, rated the #21 player in Virginia http://rivals.yahoo.com/miami/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-3121;_ylt=AjuK4J7AKf6DXVQMT4xg78hGspB4

Funny that the Canes have still put more players into the NFL the past five years of our down teams that FSU AND UF.

You hear anything about FSU or UF players except how much Tebow sucks as an NFL player?

UF/FSU celebrates top recruiting classes but those are usually kids who peaked and hoghschool and on downtrends in college.

UM picks the up and comers. Shannon couldn't develop them, but Golden and Company are changing that theme. I smell UM NC blowing in the wind for 2014.

Oh boy, here goes dom again, with the glass all the way full analysis again. So right now, goldie has built a wall around Nigeria, and at the pace he's going, he's about to build a few chicken coup's in Virginia, especially if this Michael parker committs, this is goldie's team, but we don't need another safety, or more offensive players unless goldie has bound himself to out-scoring people since he knows his boy oach OH-NO will not be improving anytime soon.

brent pease is waiting, this danny dilliard guy might actually start surprising people, althoug i think gus edwards coming in had more to do with coach terry being a syracuse alum. Anyway, congratualations to coach terry on his promotion and waiting until after signing day and taking one for the team, especially if he was up in people's living rooms till the 11th bs'ing so you know his name is mud now if he did that, lol, but i don't think he rolled like that cause it would've came out by now though.

Either way, we start winning and looking like a well coached team and get to the point where we don't beat ourselves and force teams to have to play their best game just to have a chance to beat us at the end is when i know we're headed in the right direction. Right now, i don't see that type of coached team.

Also, we need to be way more physical than the other team. On defense we need to come out and set the tone and let them know what type of game it's going to be the whole game.

gallo, you checked out that new raising Canes video, lol, it's funny how they showed about 2 guys committing, even though i understand why, it's just funny since we only got about 4 guys from Miami. Either way, stacy coley is going to have fun. This is going to be the audition year for hurlie brown and brennan caroll on the offensive recruits we get come next year for sho.

I kind of like matthew thomas going to Fsu though, it's guys like him and keith bryant going to those schools that make the UM-Fsu game that much better. For real, i was watching that Fsu-gaytor game last night and the gaytors actually had some of them Fsu boys looking scared. karlos williams got humbled and wasn't playing with the same confidence he had playing against us. We need to get back to taking peoples hearts again.

Also, in the video you see 3g real quick, that man doesnt' look nothing like a defensive end no more to me, he'll probably be even slower come this year. We need guys to dis-engage from blocks real quick. Also, alot of guys needs to stop engaging blocks so much, but that's what they're teaching though. It was funny seeing oach OH-NO and tracy howard interacting, looked a lil akward, and p.w. messing with deon bush. Anyway, i want to see what this defense is going to look like.

Also, for those who don't think where a player is from don't matter, lol, must of never been on a team before. The home team normally always rule, that rule doesn't apply though when Miami guys leave the state case when we go to other places and play, it's always clear that "the Legend Continues". Most of us are already tried and proven so when we go and play in other states, we force them to have to raise their games up.

So any player that comes to this team from out of state will only have some real say so if they prove themselves. Like ed reed told laron byrd when he came to Miami "1st off, DON"T EMBARRASS LOUISIANNA", cause that's what we do down here, we already trying to dog our boys everyday, so someboy coming from somewhere else, gone really have to show-out in order to be an get accepted.

SO Do I west coast. This is our ""1999"" year, getting it 2gether, then our 2000 year will b 2014, the 1st year of the 4 team playoff. Duke, tracy,Deon Bush will b juniors, 2 more top recruiting classes. and we will b loaded.

I agree with dom and it cracks me up to read dumba55 posts from calvin (luke campbell) and cool cat.

Cool cat says that willie smith was hands dwon the best tight end from the U. Really cool cat?

Bubba franks
Jeremy shockey
Kellen winslow jr
Greg olsen
Jimmy graham

Shut up, dummy

Dom is right somehow, but i feel last year was 1999.
Next yr will be 2000, when U climbed the polls, then beat #1 fsu, only to be ripped off by the BCS?
2014 imo will be sort of transition, bc will be breaking in a new qb.

Someone please help me understand why most of our state of Florida kids like to sign with some out of state school?..If you look at all the other states. Most of there top kids stay home and play ball for their state schools....If these kids would just stay home, none of the Florida schools would never have any problems winning....

But let me get this straight, we got a 3 star tight-end from Virginia, but let travis johnson walk, lol. We got a 3 star tight-end from VA but skai moore gets no offer and denver kirkland gets his schalorship pulled, lol. Ok, play times over, time to start showing some real progress. Also you heard the recruits that went to Fsu say, i'm talking the d-linemen, that odell haggins is what got them their.

jethro just doesn't come off as a guy that can get guys in from this side of the country, he's a west coast type of coach. Him going up against odell haggins who has a proven track record or him going up against dan quinn the d-line coach from the gaytors, this is why goldie should've definitely had kept coach petri although i understand they didn't want that style/technique that petri teaches to go with this defensive scheme they're trying to run.

Welcom to The "U" Ryheem Lockley. A greta addition to this class.

Check out his video. Looks very physical.

Go Canes

Brennan Carrol is the worst coach I've ever seen in my life. I went to an open practice last year, and I couldn't understand a word coming out of his house. He also screams at his players for no reason. Not effective, and he's a premadonna. That guy only has a job bcuz of his daddy, Pete. Brennan Carroll is a joke.

Jethro is a great coach, the only west coast guy that needs to get lost in Brennan Caroll, and remove his title of National Recruiting Coordinator, that guy can't recruit a dog a bone. Hes worthless.

The staff is starting to look right though, the only slappy left is Brennan Carroll, get rid of him Goldie.

Hey TOM- Carroll just recruited the best Juco tight end in the country in Sandland and a real stud in Dobard . Before you open up your ignorant keyboard do a little research.

/////////////////////////////////////

If he was any type of coach and it was obvious, he would've known not to let asante be 270lbs or let dyron dye be 275. Any coach yelling at players that big to get open, definitely don't know wtf their doing and have no business here. Now he's the widereceivers coach, i wasn't sure why coach goldie hired him in the first place now we're moving him to the wideouts, oh boy. We only got a few more coaches to purge off of this staff and we'll be straight.

will muschamp is a goon, lol, they asked that man at halftime: reporter: you're facing the number 1 defense in the nations, what have you been able to do to rush for over 100 yards against them already?

muschamp: "well, we've run the ball against everybody, we feel like we played better defense this year"

lol, i never understood why the gaytors were happy they got muschamp, but with his mentality and for real, the gaytor administration don't do to shabby of a job hiring headcoaches. Some might say they messed up with ron zook, but if it wasn't for zook and his eye for talent, would've been a different look.

muschamp has them boys playing physical, he's actually a good fit for the gaytors. Alot of people kept saying we got the better headcoach between goldie and muschamp, i never understood that one either. They'll both go head to head in both of their 3rd years, No excues.

2 Kinds of People on this BLOG:

A) Those who already know EVERYTHING

B) Those who have a "wait and see" attitude

GOOD RECRUIT COACH GOLDEN CONTINUE TO STOCKPILE THE ROSTER WITH TALENT AND ATHLETES WHO CAN PLAY MORE THAN ONE POSITION, THIS WILL HELP AFTER THE SANCTIONS TAKE AFFECT WITH THE SCHOLARSHIP LOSES. IT'S A LOT EASIER TO PUT A GOOD PROVEN PLAYER AT ANOTHER POSITION OF NEED THAN TO RECRUIT A PLAYER WHO IS SUPPOSE TO BE 5-STAR AND TURNS OUT HE CAN'T PLAY AT ALL. WE NOW ARE LOADED AT TE SO IF CLEVELAND AND DYE WANTS TO PLAY I SUGGEST THEY LEARN HOW TO RUSH THE QB. THE CANES ARE BUILDING AND IF THEY CAN WIN 10/11 GAMES THIS YEAR AND I THINK THEY WILL THIS TEAM WILL BE EVEN BETTER IN 2014 IF WE CAN FIND A QB. GO CANES 2013 ACC CHANPS!!!

This guy, although would be absolutely annaialating as a FS, I believe Coach just signed the second coming of Andre Johnson. Build his strength and work on his speed; holy ###t, this will be very interesting.

Iagree with Leviathan

Calvin you are a know nothing (thinks he know everything) turd in disguise.

Cool cat- thank you we all know where the Muck is and what it stands for. Funny. Where are all the kids from the muck? Was Duke Johnson from the Muck? No.

Youmust be from the muck except instead of catching rabbits your --pid aft a55 probably just sat there and ate them afterwards.

@WestCoastCane. You forgot to include bloggers that can't spell, use all "caps" or "lowercase" too!

Jim Gallo blathered:

Golden asked how many scholarships were self-imposed. He answered; "Can I answer this question? I feel like I'm in court. I've been at this for two years. I can't answer that."

“He is done at UM...it doesn’t matter....dnofrio will fail next year and tat will be he nail in the jersey boys coffin....”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Coach Golden did what any good business person or quality head football coach would do when asked a question, in this instance, a recruiting question, that he and the university have good reasons not to answer. HE DIDN’T ANSWER!!!

Yet again, you don’t understand that Coach Golden’s lack of response is tied into the NCAA investigation, and speculating, most probably has something to do with a negotiation in process with the NCAA. Your naïve statements only rival those of the infamous Calvin.

As for you failingly trying to prostitute the Kirkland story to try and carve-up Coach Golden …Kirkland’s visit to the “U” left ALL of the coaches with the clear impression he was not interested in signing with the program. The two schools that we know for a fact used the NCAA investigation the most to hammer Miami were Arkansas and FSU. What two schools did Kirkland and Matthew Thomas sign with? Arkansas and FSU! Yet, you ludicrously claim that the NCAA investigation had nothing to do with this year’s recruiting class (or the two classes before this one since the NCAA started investigating Miami) and didn’t influence Miami kids to sign elsewhere.

Kirkland had numerous opportunities to signal the Miami coaches that he would be a Cane, but refused to do so, and the kid deserves credit for being honest, because he was NEVER going to be a Cane and pulling the scholarship offer had NOTHING to do with that. Yet, people like you Gallo say and write lies in a cheap, ignorant and misguided effort to try and damage Coach Golden.

Finally, you living in Manalapan, New Jersey and constantly calling Coach Golden and D’Onofrio “Jersey Boys” in a derogatory manner cause me, and I am sure others, to wonder if our two coaches slapped you around on the Jersey Shore and this is your cowardly and childish way of trying to get back at them. C’mon Gallo…did Coach Golden and D’Onofrio make you their girlfriend…you can confide in us Gallo…your secret will be safe with us.

Today is the day NCAA is supposed to give allegations to Miami, whats up? Donna needs to put presure on this with lawyers and closely check NCAA facts which could be not the truth, after all Mark and the boys have all lied in this matter.

Um yea. This is typepad.com. So stop posting terms & conditions from miamiherald.com. You look silly.

They are not going to clean this crap up so simply ignore it. These clowns have been going at it for over 6 years now. It's the same wash, rinse, repeat. Simple garbage. Just keep scrolling.

They are victims of the envy curse. We have more championships, more documentaries, better tv ratings, better academics, etc. Let them bash us. It makes them feel better about their pathetic lives.

Will someone PLEASE hire Calvin. His wisdom and coaching Sbility is being wasted on this blog. He could roll out championship team after championship team. Get this guy a head coaching job pronto!!!

I did not see any details on his football game. His signing is a plus in getting another player. It is also a minus in signing another out of stater.

Definitely a minus signing an out-of-stater.

There is an extension in the works for coach, and Brennan is the second most important staff member.

Anthony Chickallo needs to lose at least 15 lbs. He was so good at the point of attack his first year, then he gained 30 lbs. His soph year he was SLOW. poeple running around him all day, and getting no push. LOSE WEIGHT CHICK!

facts: let me educate you on reality.

1. golden lied about the kirkland situation
2. there is no negotiation procees allowed at this point....UM complys with ncaa request is all...after UM is served with notice of allegations UM can take it to appeal committee
3. kirkland does not have to committ t anyone prior to national signing day....do merit scholarships or financial aid recipients have to respond prior to deadlines...NO
4. Golden said there were limited scholarships but he was the one to limit what was avalible...not ncaa, so how did one not be availble when kirkland was approached after the BT parade...but the following day 1 is made avalible to curb blowback
5. as a DIRECT result of goldens actions..UM gave arkansas..kirkland & collins
6. both said they were UM leans but the coaches and action via kirkland swayed them to arkansas

UM football will go the way of the dolphins and UM basketball will mimic the heat....

1. golden lied about the kirkland situation==> How do you know this, moron? Where you there? Are you Kirkland or his family?

2. there is no negotiation procees allowed at this point....UM complys with ncaa request is all...after UM is served with notice of allegations UM can take it to appeal committee. ==> Unintelligible

3. kirkland does not have to committ t anyone prior to national signing day....do merit scholarships or financial aid recipients have to respond prior to deadlines...NO==> He does not HAVE to do anything. But when asked, he should respond truthfully. Do other recruits here and at other schools commit prior to signing day? Yes they do, moron.

4. Golden said there were limited scholarships but he was the one to limit what was avalible...not ncaa, so how did one not be availble when kirkland was approached after the BT parade...but the following day 1 is made avalible to curb blowback. ==> Speculation by a delusional idiot.
