Previewing Spring Practice for the Canes

With spring football practice set to begin Saturday (scrimmages are set for March 23rd at Traz Powell, April 5th in Naples and April 13th at Sun Life Stadium) here is a look at the top story lines at each position entering camp. (FYI, UM is expected to release a new spring depth chart in the coming days.)

OFFENSE
- Only five seniors who appeared on the two-deep were lost to graduation: running back Mike James, offensive tackle Ben Jones (one start), backup left guard Jeremy Lewis and receivers Kendal Thompkins and Davon Johnson

That hardly seems tough to replace, but the big transition here is coaching. Offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch (Jacksonville Jaguars) is gone along with receivers coach George McDonald (Syracuse) and running backs coach Terry Richardson (Jacksonville Jaguars). James Coley comes over from Florida State with only one year of play-calling experience to take over for Fisch as offensive coordinator. UM promoted Hurlie Brown to running backs coach and hired Larry Scott away from USF to coach tight ends after Brennan Carroll made the move over to receivers coach. UM ranked 37th in total yardage offense (25th in passing; 87th in rushing) and averaged 31.2 points per game in 2012 (49th out of 120 FBS schools).

QUARTERBACKS
Returning starter
17 Stephen Morris (6-2, 214, Sr., Miami Monsignor Pace)
Backup
11 Ryan Williams (6-6, 223, Jr., Miramar High)
Redshirted/Reserves
13 Gray Crow (6-3, 222, R-Fr., Clearwater Countryside)
12 Preston Dewey (6-2, 208, R-Fr., Austin, Tex.)
19 David Thompson (6-2, 207, R-Fr., Miami Westminster Christian)
Fall arrival
Kevin Olsen (6-3, 196, Fr., Wayne Hills, N.J.)

> STORYLINE: There is no reason to be worried about the starting spot here as it looks like Morris and Coley are hitting it off. But it will be interesting to see who among the returning freshmen catches the eye of UM's new offensive coordinator. David Thompson will not be around because he's playing baseball, but Gray Crow and Preston Dewey will. With Kevin Olsen set to arrive in the fall and 2014 commitment Alin Edouard (Hialeah High) already handpicked by Coley the pressure will be on for Crow and Dewey to do something this spring. If they don't, don't be surprised if they end up elsewhere.

RUNNING BACKS
Returning starters
8 Duke Johnson (RB, 5-9, 188, So., Miami Norland)
33 Maurice Hagens (FB, 5-11, 238, Sr., Tampa Bay Tech)
Backups
23 Eduardo Clements (5-9, 192, Sr., Miami Booker T. Washington)
25 Dallas Crawford (5-10, 190, So., South Fort Myers)
Redshirted/reserves
32 Danny Dillard (6-2, 225, R-Fr., Venice)
Walk-ons
27 Jameson Labady (5-11, 215, Sr., North Miami)
48 Brandon Yosha (6-0, 183, So., Carmel, Ind.)
Fall arrivals
Augustus Edwards (6-1, 222, Fr., Staten Island, N.Y.)
Cornelius Elder (5-11, 170, Fr., Nashville, Tenn.)

> STORYLINE: Coming off a fantastic freshman season Johnson should look even bigger and better coming off off-season workouts. The concern here is who backs him up moving forward with Mike James gone. Clements (neck) has health concerns. Crawford carried the ball just six times for 23 yards last season. He will be given first shot and we also should get a good look at Dillard in camp. But those are just two names. Incoming freshmen Gus Edwards and Cornelius Elder won't arrive until the fall. But if Crawford and Dillard don't impress in the spring, Edwards and Elder may actually come in and compete for playing time right away.

OFFENSIVE LINE
Returning starters
79 Malcolm Bunche (LT, 6-7, 323, R-Jr., Newark, Del.)
70 Jon Feliciano (LG, 6-5, 314, R-Jr., Davie Western)
62 Shane McDermott (C, 6-4, 296, Jr., Palm Beach Central)
65 Brandon Linder (RG, 6-6, 312, Sr., Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas)
77 Seantrel Henderson (RT, 6-8, 340, Sr., St. Paul, Minn.)
Backups
74 Ereck Flowers (LT/RT, 6-6, 314, So., Miami Norland)
63 Danny Isidora (RG, 6-4, 312, R-Fr., Weston Cypress Bay)
75 Jared Wheeler (C, 6-5, 312, Sr., Plantation American Heritage)
64 Hunter Wells (OL, 6-4, 300, So., Canton, Ill.)
Redshirted/reserves
76 Taylor Gadbois (OL, 6-8, 310, R-Fr., Dallas, Ga.)
Spring arrivals
Hunter Knighton (6-5, 265, Fr., Pottstown, Penn.)
Sunny Odogwu (6-8, 311, Fr., Baltimore, Mary.)
Fall arrivals
Alex Gall (6-5, 295, Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio)

> STORYLINE: The huge bright spot entering camp and the season is the return of all five starters on the offensive line as well as four solid backups in Flowers, Isidora, Wheeler and Wells. Will any of those guys push for a starting spot? Flowers and Isidora probably could. The stories to follow this spring are newcomers Sunny Odogwu and Hunter Knighton. Golden is thrilled about both. They need to show they can be ready by 2014.

TIGHT ENDS
Returning starters
46 Clive Walford (6-4, 248, Jr., Belle Glades Glades Central)
Reserves
82 Asante Cleveland (6-5, 260, Sr., Sacramento, Calif.)
Walk-ons
43 Sean Harvey (6-4, 260, Jr., Largo Indian Rocks, Fla.)
Position switch
95 Jake O'Donnell (DE, 6-6, 243, R-Fr., Doylestown, Penn.)
Spring arrivals
Standish Dobard (6-4, 255, Fr., Belle Chasse, La.)
Beau Sandland (6-6, 255, Jr., Woodland Hills, Calif.)
Fall arrivals
Ryheem Lockley (6-4, 217, Fr., Middlesex, Va.)

> STORYLINE: Al Golden told our Barry Jackson earlier this month Dyron Dye and David Perry were being switched to defensive end. Why? Because he was bringing in two studs in Dobard and Sandland, considered the top JUCO tight end in the country. Both should look good alongside Walford (25 catches, 451 yards, 4 TDs) as pass-catching tight ends moving forward.

RECEIVERS
Returning starters
4 Phillip Dorsett (5-9, 187, Jr., Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas)
1 Allen Hurns (6-3, 195, Sr., Miami Carol City)
80 Rashawn Scott (6-2, 202, Jr., Melbourne Central High)
86 Herb Waters (6-2, 185, So., Homestead)
Backups
9 Malcolm Lewis (6-0, 192, So., Miramar)
6 Robert Lockhart Jr. (6-1, 188, So., Delray Beach)
Redshirted/Reserves
81 Jontavious Carter (6-2, 203, R-Fr., Cordele, Ga.)
15 D'Mauri Jones (6-4, 190, R-Fr., Leesburg, Fla.)
Walk-ons
18 Chad Barnes (5-8, 170, R-Sr., Weston Cypress Bay)
37 Alex Irastorza (6-3, 190, Sr., Miami Columbus)
87 Garrett Kidd (6-2, 186, So., Midland, Mich.)
24 Joey McNeill (5-10, 172, Jr., Newton, Penn.)
24 Stephen Sweeney (5-11, 184, So., Ridgewood, N.J.)
Fall arrivals
Derrick Griffin (6-6, 215, Fr., Rosenberg, Tex.)
Stacy Coley (6-1, 175, Fr., Oakland Park Northeast)

> STORYLINES: Dorsett (58 catches, 842 yards, 4 TDs) proved to be the go-to target for most of the 2012 season and will once again enter camp as that guy. The players to watch will be Scott, who was suspended indefinitely after nine games and was having a stellar season (35 catches, 512 yards, 3 TDs) before that and Lewis, who of course was having a great freshman season before dislocating his left ankle and fracturing his fibula. Lewis, I'm told, will not participate in team drills during the spring but will be around.

DEFENSE
-- There are only three seniors from the two-deep that are gone: starting cornerback Brandon McGee, backup defensive tackle Darius Smith and backup safety Vaughn Telemaque. But there were other losses. Cornerback Thomas Finnie was booted off the team after being involved in a laptop theft on campus, third-leading tackler Gionni Paul was booted from the team, and fourth-leading tackler and talented outside linebacker Eddie Johnson remains suspended indefinitely.

The Hurricanes had a horrific season in 2012 on defense statistically, ranking 116th in total yardage, 112th against the run, 102nd in pass defense and 82nd in scoring defense (30.5 ppg). They also produced just 13 sacks in 12 games. The good? UM produced 22 turnovers on defense -- 11 INTs and 11 fumbles.

DEFENSIVE LINE
Returning starters
71 Anthony Chickillo (DE, 6-4, 265, Jr., Tampa Alonso)
91 Olsen Pierre (DT, 6-4, 296, Jr., Rahway, N.J.)
96 Curtis Porter (DT, 6-1, 308, Sr., Charlotte, N.C.)
51 Shayon Green (DE, 6-3, 260, Sr., Tifton, Ga.)
Backups
94 Kelvin Cain (DE, 6-3, 245, Sr., Clovis, Calif.)
99 Jelani Hamilton (DE, 6-5, 271, So., Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas)
17 Tyriq McCord (DE, 6-3, 236, So., Tampa Jefferson)
92 Jalen Grimble (DL, 6-2, 292, Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.)
66 Dequan Ivery (DT, 6-1, 303, So., Lake City, Fla.)
67 Corey King (DT, 6-1, 292, So., West Boca Raton)
72 Earl Moore (DT, 6-1, 300, So., Tampa Hillsborough)
93 Luther Robinson (DT, 6-3, 290, Sr., Fort Pierce Westwood)
90 Ricardo Williams (DE, 6-5, 251, So., Homestead)
Redshirted/reserves
87 Jacoby Briscoe (DT, 6-5, 312, R-Fr., Lafayette, La.)
97 Dwayne Hoilett (DE, 6-3, 247, R-Fr., Vero Beach)
Position switch
49 Dyron Dye (6-5, 258, R-Sr., Sanford Seminole, Fla.)
85 David Perry (6-7, 265, Jr., University School)
Fall arrivals
Al-Quadin Muhammad (6-4, 225, Fr., Ramsey, N.J.)
Ufomba Kamalu (6-5, 280, Jr., Butler Community College, Kan.)

> STORYLINE: UM's run defense was a complete joke for most of the season -- surrendering 217.92 yards per game. But over the final three games, the Canes allowed an average of just 137 (that would have ranked 32nd as a season average). The common denominator? A healthy Porter at defensive tackle. He played in just four games last season, starting the final three alongside Pierre. Porter has played in just 15 games over his four years at Miami. Aside from him, it will be interesting to see how Chickillo (team-leading four sacks) bounces back from an average sophomore season. Will he get pass rushing help from any of the sophomores or redshirt freshmen? McCord produced 3.5 sacks last season. Believe it or not, he and Cain (1 sack) were the only other defensive ends to sack the quarterback. Dye and Perry move over from tight end and will attempt to become pass-rushers themselves.

LINEBACKERS
Returning starters
59 Jimmy Gaines (6-3, 232, Sr., Getzville, N.Y.)
34 Thurston Armbrister (6-3, 222, Jr., Hollywood Hills)
52 Denzel Perryman (6-0, 230, Jr., Coral Gables)
Backups
31 Tyrone Cornileus (6-2, 215, Sr., Stone Mountain, Ga.)
56 Raphael Kirby (6-0, 223, So., Stone Mountain, Ga.)
58 Gabe Terry (6-3, 215, So., Palm Beach Central)
Redshirted/reserves
54 JaWand Blue (6-0, 210, R-Fr., West Boca Raton)
Suspended indefinitely
44 Eddie Johnson (6-1, 234, R-So., Stone Mountain, Ga.)
Walk-ons
47 Akil Craig (6-1, 226, R-Sr., Tampa Jesuit)
57 Nantambu Fentress (5-9, 205, Jr., Nashville, Tenn.)
Spring arrivals
Alex Figueroa (6-3, 225, Fr., Stafford, Va.)
Fall arrivals
Jermaine Grace (6-1, 196, Fr., Miramar)
Devante Bond, 6-3, 230, Jr., Sierra Community College, Calif.)

> STORYLINE:  Losing Eddie Johnson could hurt the Canes immensely despite the return of a couple of other veterans. Gaines, Kirby and Perryman are all coming off injury-plagued seasons. It will be interesting to see what they can do when fully healthy and recovered and coming of a good off-season. The new arrival -- Figueroa -- has a chance to put himself in position to compete for playing time. It will be interesting to see just how much talent he has along with Blue and Terry.

SECONDARY
Returning starters
2 Deon Bush (S, 6-1, 195, So. Miami Columbus)
37 Ladarius Gunter (CB, 6-2, 196, Jr., Montgomery, Ala.)
30 AJ Highsmith (S, 6-0, 208, Sr., Missouri City, Texas)
29 Rayshawn Jenkins (S, 6-1, 203, So., St. Petersburg Admiral Farragut)
22 Kacy Rodgers II (CB/S, 6-2, 212, Sr., Southlake, Texas)
Backups

21 Antonio Crawford (CB, 5-11, 188, So., Tampa Plant)
3 Tracy Howard (CB, 5-11, 185, So., Miramar High)
Redshirted/reserves
35 Nate Dortch (CB, 5-11, 175, R-Fr., South Fort Myers)
11 Larry Hope (CB, 6-0, 183, R-Fr., Miami American)
Walk-ons
38 Jordan Tolson (6-1, 192, Jr., Inglewood, Calif.)
Fall arrivals
Jamal Carter (6-1, 175, Fr., Miami Southridge)
Artie Burns (6-0, 183, Fr., Miami Northwestern)
Ray Lewis III (5-10, 192, Fr., Lake Mary Prep)

> STORYLINE: The cornerback position has just one proven starter back in Gunter, but plenty of talent and potential with Howard and Crawford coming back after playing a lot as freshmen. That trio will be interesting to watch throughout camp along with the progress of Dortch and Hope, who were both redshirted last season. The safety position appears to be in much better hands in terms of experience. Can Jenkins and Bush push Highsmith and Rodgers out of the starting lineup for good? Strong reinforcements will arrive in the fall in terms of Carter, Burns and Lewis III.

SPECIAL TEAMS
18 Matt Goudis (K, 6-0, 172, So., West Hills, Calif.)
Walk-ons
46 Ricky Perez (K, 5-8, 182, So., Miami Krop)
88 Zach Costa (K/P, 6-2, 209, So., Hillsdale, N.J.)
88 Ronald Regula (LS/TE, 6-2, 225, Jr., Miami Palmetto)
27 Ricky Carroll (P, 6-3, 185, Sr., Mission Viejo, Calif.)

> STORYLINES: You can't underestimate the losses of kicker Jake Wieclaw and punter Dalton Botts. Both were among the best in the ACC at their respective positions. Now Goudis, who participated in just three kickoffs, is the likely front-runner to handle both of those duties.

Gallo, I posted where I got the ranking info from. All those kids are highly ranked, 247 sports combines all 4 sites and lists each national rank.
The 2 nigerian guys both made the prep top 20 and the juco 100(1 and 1). Dobard who U put not ranked made espns top 150 players, Bond made Rivals Juco 100, the list goes on.

none of us on here said star system is the best anyway. Butch Davis's exact words were give me a athletic hungry 3 star over a 5 star primadonna anyday.

Once you get past the 1st 10-20 kids or so, its all about how they react in college. 1 kid gets a 4 star from Kansas, might b a 2 star in FL because theres so much talent.

Bottom line is the team has the most depth in 9 years, has a good chance at winning 10 or more this year as we go 3 deep at all the skill positions and have a good SR QB and the top 3 O Line in the country.

As long as the DT's and LB's stay healthly(we played young DT's due to injury and all 3 starting LBs were out for most of the season) then played freshman DBS. it all adds up to 112 or 117 rank.

With the looming sanctions, UF/FSU/ALA/ARK all negatively recruited vs UM, thats why its easier to get out of state kids that dont hear the drama talk as much

sorry....canesport.com / rivals.com

click the name...then look under national rankings....this class are nobodies...

example: kevin olsen....rivals.com rivals250 (#111 national rank) All those rankings are based upon rivals top 250 national ranking....this class is weak..period

golden recruting class 2013 based upon rival top 250 national ranking:

devante bond - not rated in top 250
artie burns - #187
jamal carter - #238
stacy coley - #111
standish dobard - not rated in top 250
augustus edwards - not rated in top 250
cornelius elder - #157
alex gall - not rated in top 250
germaine grace - #201
derrick griffin - #43
ufomba kamalu - not rated in top 250
hunter knighton - not rated in top 250
ray lewis - not rated in top 250
ryheem lockley - not rated in top 250
al-quadin muhammad - #49
sonny odogwu - not rated in top 250
kevin olsen - #200
beau sandland - not rated in top 250

only 2 from dade county...artie burns and jamal carter....golden recruiting is a complete failure...try to defend all you want....data/stats tell the story, the rest lie

wes, we got ivery, briscoe and eddie moore(and I think 1 more) DT last year, and Komalu this year is rated 12th best Juco DT on espn juco 100.

GOlden has to take 3 at least in this class but if you look above at Mannys post, we have alot of young DT"s along with the 5 star kid Jalen Grimble who is a jr now. Porter and Robinson and Pierre if healthy are a good group of DTs and we can rotate the young guys in 2nd an 3rd qtr so the studs r fresh.... now we have depth

please the only reason UM has been winning is because of randy shannon....he saved goldens ass now for 2 yrs....golden has a press conference and tells the miami herald that he took over a team that was descimated....complete lie....

if morris goes down UM is totally screwed....williams,crow and dewey havent taken a snap in 2 YEARS....golden/dnofrio are rookies trying to lead a brand like UM..it aint gonna happen...

Our final rank on the 247 sports composite, averaging in espn.com, scout.com,rivals.com, finished #11 for the 2013 class with the 3 out of state additions. #3 player in TX regardless of position Derrick Griffin, Mr Football 2 years in a row in Tennessee Corn Elder, and #23 player in VA regardless of position Lockley.

With looming sanctions, Golden landed top 10 last year and #11 this year....... He didnt allow fsu and uf to pull away as long as you finish in top 15ish, your pulling in great talent.

Per Tom Luginbill, in his 15 years of recruiting , Miamis TE class is the best in the history for 1 class.

Had we given out 25 ships instead of 19, its a top 5 class due to the curent rank 11 now.... Thats how DEEP this class was with talent

Dom: you like to make up your own stories....

Heres there updated link on 247 sports. #11 Miami
http://247sports.com/Season/2013-Football/CompositeTeamRankings

Hope Coach Carroll can help Phillip Dorsett at WR become more consistent.Guy could be a playmaker but makes KEY drops at worst times in BIG games.(Remember Notre Dame?).HE must improve or take a seat to Coley or someone better. On defense...it seems Eddie Johnson is outta here.Kid is out of control and unstable emotionally obviously.AS THE ENTIRE WORLD KNOWS......Miami s DEFENSE is the question mark again(and again and again)and if the DC cannot "coach up his players"....the Canes will be only an average to occassionally good at times team. There are a couple of good players coming in but they re inexperienced. If the DT s and D line improve their overall STRENGTH,Foot speed and TECHNIQUE and rush the passer......they ll be IMPROVED.How much is the million dollar question. Will it be enough? Will it be significant?THAT is the KEY to this team. The DC has benn criticized heavily but duly so.HE has alot to PROVE.

Team Rank
11 Avg Rating: 0.8944 ACC Rank: 2

Ranked #11 on 247 sports as of their updated class rankings, with looming sanctions just 3 spots behind fsu and 7 behind UF again WITH LOOMING SANCTIONS.

Thats a testament to how good a job golden has done recruiting. With Coker or Shannon, during this looming time, we might have been in the 30's and it would be 4 years before we are good

Who cares about UF. They lost a ton of talent and getting them at home in 2nd game of the year is gonna b Sugar Bowl 2, we are way too explosive and should win that game by 1 td or more.....

2. IF U follow sports Gallo, Northern FL had most of the top recruits this year, so fla was way down, and of course gators will have more FL recruits. But Golden got Mr Football in TENN, Nys #1 RB, Texas #1 Wr/TE/HB, Juco #1 TE, top 2 players in New Jersey.

who cares where they came from, they are all amercians

Gallo Said: "Please the only reason UM has been winning is because of Randy Shannon."

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

And Randy Shannon was fired for what? Maybe Gallo will lead a campaign to re-hire Randy.

Let me guess Gallo, you want to hire back Randy as head coach and Butch Davis as his defensive coordinator and…wait for it…Joe Pannunzio as the special teams coach, you know the guy that celebrated if his kick-off team only allowed a 45 yard return…the good ole days—right Gallo?

Clearly Gallo's already problematic mental state is deteriorating before our very eyes.

I dont see why he wastes his time . hes a gator, go to the gator blog... Cant wait to smoke UF on Sept 7/8.

#2, he has made up his own rankings as he goes..... Gallo, had UM had 30 spots like the gators, they would b higher ranked as they have more top players at their positions than UF.

Why do you guys listen to Jim Gallo, Dom, Canetrash and others? I do not even read their post, just move on to the next one. It's just that simple, go to the next post. Based on our situation, I think the coaches are doing a great job. Go Canes!

Its a C A N E Thing--your right ATL cane. Get to know the name is C A N E S Canes..........Our Deepest roster in 9 years is starting to scare some of our muschump and dumbo fans...........Goldie goes in and lands the best juco player, best rb in Tenn, best rb in ny, best wr/hback in Texas, top 2 players in jersey, top 2 db's in so fla, the #2 olb in so fla ,and the list goes on.............
Its a cane thing

Yesterday, the NCAA was back to their old dirty tricks and leaked information found in their notice of allegations.

Keep in mind, these are "allegations" submitted from an organization that has already admitted that 20% of their investigation was corrupt.

I am certain Miami's attorney's are in the process of picking apart the NCAA's corrupt investigation line item by line item and will destroy Emmert and his hench-people in front of the sanctions committee.

The NCAA continues to use vile practices trying to damage Miami as much as possible, thus validating Donna Shalala's decision to fight back.

Finally, in my view most of Donna's ire is probably due to Emmert leading her to believe he was in her corner based on the self punnishment steps and unprecedented cooperation by Miami, thus a negotiation to close this matter with time served was a done deal, only to have Emmert ambush Donna at the very end.

After that retarded statement by Gallo about RS I have decided to skip anything he writes. I have to say that was one of the most ignorant statements even he has made. And if the other deans list Candidates from retard U ( Calvin,Canetrash,Canekiller) continue with their nonsense I will skip them also,I am a Cane fan thru and thru unlike them so not really interested in ignorant statements the the retard Quadruplets. Go Canes

Yo cane trash

Yo dom the dUmb clUck is out of control
Canes got the best TE in Idaho, the best RB in Rhode Island, the best WR in Alaska and the best OL in Africa.
Too bad they play in Florida and have to compete with FSU and UF for talent, imagine if the canes played in Nairobi or Juneau. Then they would be the best team in their State or country.

Yo Miami Marky says to fire the Troll and boycott the games until it happens.
I thought there was a boycott already and that is why no one goes to the games.
Tarp is going fast.
More tarp sold so far in 2013 than all of 2012. Do U think the weak arse schedule has something to do with that?

Yo step up to the Golden Retriever Challenge
He should guarantee 8 wins or more
Man up and speak up, U made the soft schedule
No excuses clUcks

Yo can't wait til the Spring game
7 TE sets
No punting
8 WRs
No FGs
Offense and more offense
No defense........

LOOSERS!!

http://www.eyeofthehurricane.net/

Just the facts, I totally agree 100% with the statement. She even reported the negative leaks in the media, fale info in the media, stains the U and does effect image. Its cost us with some local kids, but thank god Goldie has landed top national players as replacements.
#2. They are trying to do everything to smear the name. U would think after Shapiro said "millions", and now its 170 inc $ he put into his biz, validates what we have been stating. Time served.

#3. To let this drag out since 2010 and 2 plus years in the media HAS NEVER HAPPENED> Penn st got whacked immediately. Other schools wait the 3-6 mos and thats it. Essentially, the NCAA has helped us as we have served "" probation"", worse proation then when ncaa says probation. USC's $ was more, and their case wasnt illegally tainted and they got 2 bowl bans. Reggie bush alone was almost 300k accordin to ncaa letter.

Since the infractions committee is a separate dept, they have to tread lightly on this . Worse case, even 3 schollies per year should b time served since goldent took less scholarships this year....

This new amount that the NCAA is working with, ($170K) shows that large numbers that were thrown around, (Millions$ as per shapiro)without substantiated proof of validity by the slimeball, catches him in another lie.

Our team has not only worked, but co-operated with SELF IMPOSITION to lessen the impact of these sanctions when imposed. ( I think there will be, some, but not much more than USC at best.)

Dom is correct..using Penn State as a template of 4 years for their horrendous accusations, it does not matter , the number of people involved, but the perception of involvement to the NCAA and it's members. This is their red flag for punishment.
We are going into the 3 rd year of our self imposed "Probation" so I agree with Donna Shalala that we have paid the price, and even the intangible loss of recruits (which if quantified) would be HUGE, so be done with it. Move on.

Our team for Spring will be ready and let the competition begin...This will be a year for many guys on D to step up and complement our O in a 9-3 win year.
Bring on Spring Ball.
Go 'Canes

10-11-12 Wins, ACC Conference Champs and BCS Bowl Bound...

Here they go again Arty. Right on cUe.

Deja vU U all over again going on Ur second decade.

Offense is loaded 3 deep inc top o line.

Defense(if healthy DT's porter/robinson) will be grossly improved. Manny said the last 4 games put us in the 30s instead of the 100s and porter was back, our best DT. These guys bash because goldie got 1 DT in this class, but the 4 last year should all b better and gives us the most Dline depth in years. Theres like 9-10 guys on that line that were 3 stars or higher at DT position, not even counting the DE's and DE's coming in(Muhammed).

Beating the gators in week 2 when there replacing so many kids, considering they struggled early last yr with a sr laden team, we should be favorits in that game.

Lastly, thease bashers look at #s and dont see we played w.o are top Dt's, 3rd string LBs with no exp, and freshman db's played the most time.........

Theres a reason vegas put the U @25-1 to play in the title game. They like our schedule, know we can beat Fsu and UF, and have our best roster in 9 years....

Dear Dom,

Do U Have One ?

I am going to have one with the canes storming thru this schedule and watching U idiot bashers cry when the canes beat UF and then beat FSU 2 times inc for the BCS Orange or NT game.............

dom" make up whatever stats you like.....this is the rivals250 ranking as of 2/28/2013

devante bond - not rated in top 250
artie burns - #187
jamal carter - #238
stacy coley - #111
standish dobard - not rated in top 250
augustus edwards - not rated in top 250
cornelius elder - #157
alex gall - not rated in top 250
germaine grace - #201
derrick griffin - #43
ufomba kamalu - not rated in top 250
hunter knighton - not rated in top 250
ray lewis - not rated in top 250
ryheem lockley - not rated in top 250
al-quadin muhammad - #49
sonny odogwu - not rated in top 250
kevin olsen - #200
beau sandland - not rated in top 250

florida got almost of all of the top florida recruits....live whatever fantasy you want...I dont care....the stats are worse every year that golden has been here.....all the production is comming out of shannons players....

butch davis hc
randy shannon dc
jim coley oc

thats what I am for....

Gallo they dont rank juco players in rivals 250, so take off a ton of players off that list. Pull up the rivals juco 100, bond is there, pull up rivals prep top 25, ogdawu is there, pull up espn juco 100, komalu is there, rivals juco 100 and espn juco 100 sandland,

The best part of the season will the blowout of the gators in week 2. They wont b able to slow down our offense. period........fsu is a rival and kept us on the schedule, but UF is personal. When Jimmy beat them like 3-4 years in arow, last time 31-4 in 87, they got tired of having an extra loss on their record so they cut the series of a st rival. What a bunch of weak sisters.

2. Gallo. Too bad UF has never gone undefeated, ever in the history of their school.

On Offense, go position by position, with the addition of mr football 2 times in Tenn to backup Duke along with the #1 rb in ny Edwards, and the addition of Juco #1 TE, 2 more espn 150 TE's Dobarsh and Tx Best player Griffin, and the deep threat of the #1 wr in fl coley, this possibly could be a better offense than the 2001 team since Morris slings it better than Dorsey.

If the D stays healthy, theres no reason we cant run the table. The team is loaded

Gallo since U like using Rivals, just click on avg star rating . Fsu and uf have a 3.5 avg star for 30 committs for uf and 20something for noles, miami is 3.44 with only 19..........basically the same talent brought in during sanctions.

What that says is Golden should smoke muschump and dumbo on the recruiting trail when this is off us. Considering he has 4 local studs already on the 2014 class, I expect a top 3 class this year

Dom-

It seems to me that Donna Shalala and the team she has assembled to fight the NCAA should keep the pressure up on Emmert via the media. And unlike the NCAA's spineless leaking of information by an "anonymous source" in their continuing effort to damage Miami in the eyes of the media and public, we should stand tall behind our information releases.

Separately, the incredible challenges that Al Golden has faced in his first two years with the Canes through no fault of his own would have destroyed a mere mortal.

Despite the idiocy posted by the usual brain-dead suspects on this blog concerning Coach Golden, if his agent made it known that he is available to talk there would be a long line of quality schools backing up dump trucks filled with cash to hire the man.

To that end, a highly placed individual in the Notre Dame hierarchy said that Al Golden would be a top candidate to replace Brian Kelly had he jumped to the NFL.

Yet, through the extraordinarily damaging Shapiro firestorm Coach Al Golden has taken countless bullets from foes, and some claiming to be friends of the school, yet his loyalty has never wavered.

I believe Al Golden will go on to be the best head football coach in the history of Miami Hurricanes football.

FYI 2012 class had Jacoby Briscoe 300 lb DT rated #27 in Louisiana regardless of position. Earl Moore 300 LB DT rated in the FL top 100, and 3 star Daquan Ivery a Louisville committ that golden converted on 2012 signin day......those guys give the Porters/Robinsons/Pierre's/Grimbles, DEPTH.....Rotating in DTackles, something that Miami started in the 80's and we can now do again.

Freshman DTs need a year generally in the weight room to get that bulk into shape.... Add the JUCO guy Komalu the #12 DT in Junior College ,and all of a sudden we have a nice mix of DT's

After 2 mediocre seasons and sporting one of the worst defenses in known history some idiot says that Al Golden will go down as one of the best football coaches in UM history.
The argument goes that it is the NCAA that is holding Golden back from showing the rest of us all his greatness. In fact he is more than a mere mortal, which means he is an in mortal aka a god.
Al Golden the god of the canes.
The best coach ever in UM history.
Form someone that claims to have just the facts.
Just the facts mam'

Just the facts, I am 100% behind Golden. Not many with a 3 yr witch hunt can land #9 class last year and #11 overall on 247 this year and keep the U roster relavent and loaded with athletes. Many schools would have lost out on top studs and finished in the 30s . Louisville comin off a sugar bowl win finished ranked #39.......we have looming sanctions and this man delivers 52 kids in 2 years with a ton of #1 players at their position. Top Qb, Top Rbs, Top TE's, TOP WR's, Stud young Olineman, Stud DE's, Stud Lbs, stud DB's,(the 4 best DBs in so fla are all canes and are sophomores or yonger. Howard, Bush, Burns, Carter...

As they get older now, and next years class will have no holds bar limits meaning it should be a top 5 as so fla is loaded and we have 2 five star Rbs coming Michel and Yearby, its a great time to be a cane. Golden gets paid enough where he doesnt have to leave for $, has a contract till 2019, and has built depth to where we can withstand even if we get 5 scholly reductions.
Next yrs class has 2-3 top 100 players at the DT position besides the two five star rbs in so fla, and are loaded I believe 8-9 of the rivals 100 are from so fla,and golden will have a shot at landing all of them.

This should be put down when we win the title in 2014 season of how he built the program during a bad time of negative recruting.

Who can land basically two top 10 classes with that pressure hangin over the program. GOLDEN. and thats why these jack arse's come on hear. THEY FEAR THE U AND FEAR THE TIE

Kool aid drinker, We are talking about the future. We all know we were playing young kids and had our best DT's and best LB's out for most of the year and freshman db's getting most of the PT. No one is stating it based on that. Jimmy Johnson lost 5 games in his 1st year and got spanked in the sugar bowl in year 2, but he was building the young talent and then year 3 was the 86 team that was dominant.

Butch Davis took over in 95 and lost 3 games or more until 2000, but he was building the talent during sanction times. These past 2 years have had basically probation and negative pub, yet Golden somehow delivered to us a team of blue chippers at almost every position and 2-3 deep.......Now, are they young? yes,. Can they win out this year?? yes, but 2014 is the yr I am predicting a big run where we are fully deeper and more competitive, and thats the 1st year of the new playoffs..... The team , not being a homer, is that loaded.
Offense has a top 5 qb, top rb, best TE's in country, and deepest wr group in the country with Texas #1 WR Griffin and #1 rated wr in FL Coley, and the oline is the best we have had since the 01/2 seasons.

Defense when healthy is a totally different group than the team that played last year. Lost our top 2 DT's most of the year, played 3rd string LB's most of year, lost Ray Ray our best DB, and played Fresh DB's most of the year.... TOTALLY DIFFERENT TEAM THIS YEAR ESPECIALLY ADDING THE JUCO PASS RUSH GUYS.

dom and just the facts, a marriage made in Golden Heaven.
They validate each other's delusions.
Just the facts is the spiritual one, dom is the numbers and lists and rankings one.
They will join Laz at the park this Sunday for weiners and brats.
What a beautiful thing to behold.
Weiners, brats and lots of Golden Kool Aid will be flowing.
A spiritual experience.

Its a canes thing, you just dont understand. Get to know the name. per bennie blades, its C A N E S
Its gonna b a long year for rebuilding FSU and UF.....haha Lets see the gators replace 30 guys, they arent at alabams level and lost their backup qb. who we told to get lost, we are that deep now.

#2. FSu will b breaking in a new freshman qb, and revamp their entire D. Lost all their coaches, almost every 1, and lets see how Dumbos recuiting has worked.

Miami, we return 20 starters, the top offense in the nation, and a ton of young defensive talent ready to step up. TIMES R CHANGIN

I hope you bring that wealth of knowledge to the CANEFAM picnic this Sunday at Amelia Earhart Park, Pavilion 9. I think Zack Krantz from the Joe Rose show will be there. We bought a life size Cane Monopoly game and I going to be the Ibis. We also will have Ron MaGill there to introduce some of Africa's wild animals so the coaches are familiar of which animals to avoid of recruiting trips. We are also building a paper mache statue of our lord and savior COACH GOLDEN

GO CANES!

thats because nobody gives a s...it about junior college players.....

here let me sell it out again for you....top florida recruits 2013:

Top Florida Recruits from 247/sport 2/28/2013

#2 Vernon Hardgreaves - florida
#4 Matthew thomas - fsu
#6 Kelvin Taylor - florida
#8 Demarcus walker - fsu
#9 Ryan green - fsu
#11 Danile Mcmillian - florida
#12 Artie burns - UM
#14 Stacy coley - UM
#15 Marcell harris - florida
#20 Ira denson - fsu
#22 Ahmad fulwood - florida
#25 Caleb brantley - florida
#27 Keanu neal - floida
#30 Jordan sherit - florida
#32 Alvin Bailey - florida
#33 Jamal Carter - UM
#34 Freddie stevenson - fsu

top recruits dont want to come here because of golden and dnofrio....and the local high schools hate golden....thats why only 2 kids from miami are going to UM...pathetic as can be....

Dom
I agree with you.
The NCAA leaking information is also ammunition for UM lawyers. It poisons UMs case further bc it affects 2014 recruiting that much more. This is unprecendeted. 2 1/2 yrs, NCAA lack of institutional control, 3 recruiting cycles. This is worse punishment than USC and osu combined.

Stop engaging the mental midget gallo, calvin, cool cat, and the inbred waste of his daddys DNA, canetrash.

UM al golden lost all UM's top tier recruits:

alex collins
denver kirkland
terrell brooks
matthew thomas
jaynard bostwick
keith bryant

and look at the looser scheduale next year.....

fla atlantic / 3-9
savanah state / 1-10
usf / 3-9
gt / 7-7
nc / 8-4
wake / 5-7
vt / 7-6
duke / 6-7
virginia / 4-8
pitt / 6-7

UM used to be the greatest powerhouse in the ncaa....look at what we have become and the koolaid drinkers think dnofrio or golden will win us a national championship...UM is not in the same league as the top ncaa teams... UM is the same now as FIU

al golden was never a candidate for ND....or tennesse for that matter...nobody wants him today. Go to any ND blogg or ND article on the web...nowhere does it say al golden was a candidate...al golden was saved by randy shannon....all of his recruits are starting next year....none of those juco guys are gonna beat randys boys out of a position....as for 2014, who knows if any of those guys will end up at UM......

alex collins
denver kirkland
terrell brooks
matthew thomas
jaynard bostwick
keith bryant

dom said all of these guys will committ...but never happened...2014 ranking means s...it now

"We also will have Ron MaGill there to introduce some of Africa's wild animals so the coaches are familiar of which animals to avoid of recruiting trips."

Dude you are killing me, this stuff is classic.

" We are also building a paper mache statue of our lord and savior COACH GOLDEN"

Again, you the man.

Gallo just posted: "UM's Al Golden lost all UM's top tier recruits"

You're lying again, as earlier on this thread you said it was Miami's 2013 schedule that caused Collins to sign with Arkansas over the Canes .

Didn't your parents tell you to always tell the truth, because, as you've proven once again, you can never keep up with all the lies?

Gallo, a true college football fan knows 1st a lost recruit isnt a loss, we lost collins, well we signed #1 rb from Tenn and #1 rb from NY. he lost out on Thomas, well he came back with 4 star #2 OLB in So Fla and espn 150 LB Jermaine Grace. REBOUNDIN TOO, Al can play some ball..........

And, no one knows if that whole list U write up their become flame outs. Ed Reed was a 2 star. Ill take a hungry 2-3 star athlete vs a kid who peaked in high school vs weak competition and just looked better but has a BAD work ethic.

Landing 3 DT's in last years class and 1 this year gives us 4 good ones for the rotation. 2 DT's are from So FLa and in rivals 100 and Im sure we will get 4-5 next year..................

Laz, Brats and wienies are ok, but we can make a clay statue our of coach? Paper Mache?

gallo I might have missed on a few calls(got caught up that week), but the point is not taken bad kids that dont fit the program. He could have sent out schollies to kids that played those positions, but he wants top tier talent. But as I posted, we rebounded from missin on that list with
Jermaine Grace ESPN 150 OLB 4 star and #2 OLB SO FLA
Derrick Griffin, #1 Wr/Hb in TX and #3 overall in TX
Corn Elder 2 time Mr Football in Tennessee
Ryheem Lockley, #23 overall in VA regardless of position

again, 3 DT's last year ,1 redshirted)Briscoe) and 1 Juco transfer (espn juco 100 Komalu) gives us 4 guys to rotate with the SR and JR Dt's.

Well, espn moved us up all the way to #15, 247 sports which avg's all the sites moved us to 3 spots behind FSU at #11 on only 19 committs when UF and FSU had alot more

Gallo, all those Northern FL Gator recruits are overhyped. Driskell was considered the best qb in florida and top 5 in US and he cant throw a decent pass. Their Backup Qb that signed with UF over U has transferred and al golden told him we dont want u last month when he called.. LEts see your gayturds replace 30 lost players. Now Muschumps overhyped players have to step up, urbans players are almost gone.....6 loss season comin

FSU...... Break in that Freshman qb winston, try and replace all those starters lost on D. Its going to be a long yr in Gainesville and Tallahassee.....
