ACC releases statement regarding Miami Hurricanes and the NCAA investigation

The ACC released the following statement from commissioner John Swofford on the NCAA's case against Miami:

"We are supportive of Miami's continued efforts to work with the NCAA on bringing resolution to this case. Miami's cooperation throughout this process should be commended and they have self-imposed significant sanctions. They've been forthright and diligent in their efforts to fully cooperate with the NCAA and it's time for this case to be brought to closure."

Is there anything more pathetic than someone who spends his time insulting people on the internet?

Calvin, I love how you defend Shannon's record from year 3 on, but you're oh so willing to oust Golden after 2 despite coaching in an environment a million times more challenging that what Shannon ever faced. All real Canes wanted to see him succeed, but he didn't. Golden is showing a lot under very difficult restrictions.

Gallo, have you forgotten the last 3 years already? And Butch Davis helps us how?

I think Jim Gallo and Calvin like pretending they're at Penn St.

Go Canes!

Nice of the ACC to support Miami.

Coker tanked the program and had to go. We ALL wanted Shannon to work out but he wasn't a good enough head coach. Brought in talent but none of those players ever became stars.

Shannon didn't win enough and UM was getting BLOWN OUT of games and BLOWN OUT of bowl games, he's a UM guy through and through but he had to go.

Most think that Golden's said all the right things and made all the right moves since he's been here. The team's looking better and there is much more confidence that the program is headed in the right direction.

Golden's only mistake has been in his support of D'Onofrio, the defenses have not been acceptable by any standard.

Al Golden believes that D'Onofrio's a good coach and that he was left with no players to work with.

I think MOST Miami fans don't trust Golden on that. I don't, D'Onofrio's bend but don't break defense seems to be a bad fit for the fast instinctive players that UM recruits.

Jim Gallo is blatantly that Gators Troll guy, don't bother with him. Calvin seems sincere but give it a rest already, no one likes D'Onofrio, it's no reason to dump on the entire program.

D'Onofrio won't be fired until the end of next year at the earliest. Bring it up again then.

Calviv, This is not UFelony...There ,it may be ok to "Choke coaches" so bringing back that walk-on would not be likley. Just read a story on another site that said a legislator sent a letter to the attorney general to investigate the ncaa for engaging in unfair trade practices in violation of floridas deceptive and unfair trade practices act....BRING OUT THE BIG GUNS!

Gallo: I see Mr. Chicken #### is at it again.

I agree with you Eudocimus, I thank Calvin is not a bad guy! We all hate D'Onofrio because of his defensive style! If this defense don't get better next year he will be forced out! Also Good news! The attorney General is going after the Nc2a on um behalf. See sun-sentiel.

Ill give Calvin some credit on the Shannon thing. A, THE U should not b hiring a 1st time coach, former player or not. 2nd, coker left the team bear. I rmbr shannon stating he couldnt even dress 40 or 50 kids for some games......3rd. he did have a tie i think in the 2011 draft for most nfl players drafted)overall), not 1st rounders.
So the U is still a football factory. BUT, He needed to go the Temple Route like AL and learn as a HC for 3-4 years then COACH THE U
BUT I AM WITH COACH G........hes the right guy to lead the ship

but we will have probably the best offense in the nation next yr. Top 5 qb check. heisman RB favorite. check . JUCO #1 TE , and 2 highly rated fr TE's check. top 3 OL check. TOP WR's and Depth CHECK. OFFENSE IS LOADED, I MEAN LOADED NEXT Yr

d nees to come around

All you need to know about talent and how it develops came from the Green Bay Packers. Sam Shields didn't even know how to watch tape to study routes and become a better defender. Really? If you can't teach a kid to watch tape, how can anyone defend Shannon on developing talent?

canetrash is aka jls14234 from the gator blogs. he tries to make valid statments , then when u prove him wrong he throws out 9 year old insults or the infamous DCP. I suggest U stop in a gator blog once in a while to heckle him . I do.
J , your still a loser!

This is where people start mixing reality with half the facts. First, shields only played db for one year and it got him ready to even compete for a db spot at the next level. So the coach who said that, while he was right, let's be realistic, shields didn't even know where to line-up often times as a db, but shannon and coach mcgriff got him off to a solid base. Now if shields was playing db at UM for 4 years that comment by that greenbay coach would be valid in terms of it showing shannon didn't knwo what he was doing. But you didn't hear them say that about brandon harris or bruce johnson or dvd or ryan hill or kenny phillips or randy phillips, all who played in the pro's.

So that statement wasn't a knock on shannon or mcgriff, that coach was just surprised at how good shields was without knowing how to look at film. So that's what i call distorting the facts and not analyzing reality. Also you have to remember, shields didn't even want to make the switch to db, i actually said shields should switch to db after his freshman year, i could see it than myself. Same thing with nuke/darnell jenkins, should've been a safety.

If shields was under coach goldie, he would've been another player kicked off the team and another young man who's college career at UM would've been over, instead he's in the nfl and being productive, this is why alot of us got a problem with the goldie approach. goldie is treating these players like all of them are going to be polished products, apparently goldie doesn't think he can help to mold these young men in 4 years to be better men, it's easy to try and make yourself look good when you got guys who're going to follow the rules most of the time, but it's the guys who may not follow the rules that really shows the ability of a coach to have a positive affect on their lives.

sam shields credits shannon and coach mcgriff right now. Just think how many old skool Canes wouldn't have been on this team or would've never made it to the pro's if coach goldie was here along time ago, JEROME BROWN, alonzo highsmith, eddie brown, irvin, perriman, blades brothers, sapp, tolbert bain, cotez kennedy, i can go on and on. They would've treated cortez like they've been treating curtis porter, but one things for sure, none of those players would've stood for this defensive scheme.

Shannon was never hog tied and made every decision including keeping Whipple as his offensive coordinator, screwing up recruiting, and allowing the players to be out of position on a consistent basis, so give your Bu11sh1t lies a rest for once. And if Shannon was such a great defensive coordinator then any high profile school would have gladly paid his contract out, so that argument holds as much water as a mesh jersey does, which is none. Even a dumber comment was that he is selective over what job he takes as to the reason he isn't a DC now or HC for that matter. There isn't a school out there that wants him as a DC, period. He has lost his way and confidence and is doing just what his capacity as a coach is, which is a position coach and that is it. Shannon should have been better than he was but he just like his first offensive coordinator Nix was finally exposed as the frauds that they are. Anybody heard what Nix is doing now? I haven't. At least Shannon is a position coach, for now, but that is due more to his ability to have ties to south Florida rather than his ability to coach.

Calvin, where have U been. UM was being investigated. Golden wants to keep this program as clean as possible. I would bet when it is all over , he will deal with this stuff much better. At least quit defending these kids for doing stupid stuff. You learn right from wrong at a much earlier age than these kids are. They know, if U do somthing stupid ,there are concequences.Al lets them know that before they get here, unlike muschamp, who tells them we have an attorney at your disposal if U need one.

Why do the posters to this blog still want to write comments about Calvin and Gallo. Just let their rants go on without any further comment. Skip over them as I do. When I see the name I do not even stop to read one silly word.I f.eel the responders are doing more damage to this sight than good. I love the U of M I bleed orange and green in a world that is covered in light and dark blue and red. Thanks

yes skip us over....nobody cares, these are idiots....larry coker was one of the greatest coaches UM ever had......he and shannon in 2001 coached THE GREATEST team UM ever had.....

the guy was offensive coordinator from 1995-2000 can coaches the GREATEST players the NFL ever had.....

60-15, 34-11 conference, 1 natonal championship with 4 bowl wins.....golden/dnofrio still had beat stew in their pants.....you new so called cane fans are outsiders that know nothing.....

butch davis - jim coley - randy shannon - art kehoe - michael barrow - luther campbell - dade/broward - sunlife....thats all we need

fire shalala and get randy back....

nobody gets kicked off the team or has to go to any stupid camp the get a scholarship....

and let me tell you little green peas....al golden is not gonna make it here at UM....he can add all the stupid teams to his sceduale he wants to that will make his record look good....but that will hurt UM even more....2012 he had a mutiny, in 2013 the captian will be locked in his room until the ship gets back to base....

Randy Shannon super coach. Well respected. The darkest days in Canes history happen under his watch Orange Bowl last game. Humiliation by Virginia. Where was the Defense and Offense . Than the Powerhouse USF bulls where was the defense and offense. If Shannon was the man what happen? We want Butch Davis. Give me a break. Butch couldn't coach a little league football team without breaking rules. They would be on probation the next year. Calvin I am Jerome Brown first cousin. And that's real talk. Jerome would slap those knuckle head players around. The players you have listed who are not on the team. Their head was somewhere else.and now they are somewhere else.Keep up the good work Al. Their is light at the end of the tunnel.

Somebody just said under shannon we got "blowed out in bowl games"
////////////////////////////

Miami vs Cal24-17
Miami vs Wisconsin 20-14

This is what i mean by another distortion of the Truth, in every bowl game shannon coached in, we had a chance to win those games in the 4th quarter. First off, shannon took a bunch of True freshman in 2008 to a bowl game and almost beat cal, than the next year, played wisconsin with a qb(in jcory harris) who was playing without a thumb that needed surgery and still had the ball with a chance to win that game on the last drive.

To many people act like shannon was coaching UM when they got drubbed by notre shame, that was jeff stoutland coaching that game.

Explain to me why goldie has been a headcoach 5 years prior to coming here but in his first 2 years he's only 2 games better than shannon at 13 & 11. In fact, if goldie doesn't make it, he'll be the first headcoach at UM who was a headcoach somewhere before he got here that won't win a national championship since schnelly.

Nice to meet you, but do you really think your COUSIN would want to play on a defensive line that ask him to stand the o-line up, than go to your primary and secondary rush moves. Or better yet, do you think JEROME would've tried to cover a runningback in the flats like clown 117th keeps asking of curtis porter. That type of defensive philosophy doesn't work here and it would've made our defenses look pathetic. Now it's True and you tellign it when you said JEROME would've slapped a few of these players around but under coach goldie, HE'd be suspended indefinitely or kicked off the team doing that.

This defensive scheme we're running, i'll willing to bet house money it'll never be a dominant defense here running that under clown 117th, he doesn't even have a feel for the game.

And please don't fall for that crap about the 0-48 last game in the O.B., with that roster shannon was left with, this is the same year where shannon had a qb on the roster that went 1-14 against nc st. come on man, you know it's not fair to judge shannon in that 2007 year with the garbage he was left. But you saw what happened to Virginia the next 2 years under shannon once he got his players, but nobody wants to give em credit for those wins.

So i'm not saying shannon was the greatest headcoach in the world, i'm not crazy but what i am saying is, had they given shannon more time and the money they've allowed coach goldie to have to get an oc, shannon would've had this team in contention for a national championship by now, because one, our defenses under shannon/lovett were real solid with alot of games where the offense didn't show up, if shannon was able to get dirk koetter or marc trestman here like he wanted in the first place instead of nix, than the administration hired nipple and made him assistant headcoach, shannon would've been alot of closer and going into this next year against muschamp, it would be a dog fight.

I have no confidence we're going make driskell look like garbage, no qb has looked like garbage facing us in the last 2 years, they've all looked like first round draft picks.

CAlvin= Loser
Gallo= Worse Loser

OK, let's see- 47-0 pasting against UVA at the OBs last stand.
Losing to USF.

Jacorry Hartris- his hand pick chosen one throwing 4 picks against Ohio State.

Jacorry harris throwing 3 picks against Clemson and 2 of them pick sixes

I had enough. You are such an idiot, Your momma must have slipped at Walmart in the vegetable aisle while she was carrying yo and landed on her belly

The Florida Attorney General received a letter from a Florida state legislator asking him to be invesigate the NCAA's probe of UM. Apparently, there might be more to the miss using the bankruptcy proceedings and the NCAA violating Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Act.

Calvin, did you man up and apolgize to that guy who you told to do his research on Shannon's contract? You were wrong about Shannon not being able to get his money from Miami if he took the DC job at Texas.

And how are you right, if a headcoach gets fired, does that means his contract is terminated to as well and the school doesn't have to pay him the rest, is that what you're saying to us!

Remember all of you fb brain guys, RS had the numb#1 class in 08 and I must say it was a BIG BUST, So a few guys got away AG Get guys who fixs his personality, Kirkland, noway, thomas wasn't a miami guy. Miami rake in a very good class golden is bring big ten fb to the ACC Awesome.!

Sorry Calvin but you need to do your research! While contracts are usually written with that clause to protect the University. That wasn't the case with Randy Shannon. His contract said that if he was fired without cause that the UM had to buy out his contract regardless if he was employed or not. The buy out for the remaining money owed was $1.5 million paid out in 4 payments. Shannon sued Miami because they prorated his payments at 5/6th's (since he was let go 10 months into the calendar year) and they didn't pay him the bonus money for the team going to the Sun Bowl since the Canes were bowl eligible at the time of his firing. Don't act like Gallo and try to push your speculations off as fact.

Gallo, Butch Davis is NOT the answer because North Carolina fired him after their football team ran into trouble with the NCAA under his watch. Is that really what Miami needs at this point? If they hire Butch Davis then the NCAA might as well as set up a permanent office on campus. Stop being a dumb arse and look at the BIG picture. As for those scholarships. They had 3 allocated for Matthew Thomas, Jay-Nard Bostwick, and Keith Bryant. Those guys just filled their scholarships. As for him saying that they probably only have room for one more, remember that the NCAA notified UM about the investigators mess up before they went public with it. Miami could have very well had changed their tune thinking that the tables had turned against the NCAA.

Gallo just comes on to see how dumb posts he can put up in a day...

Get Randy back....lol. That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. Let's get Coker as oc and jerry Sandusky can call the d from his jail cell.

I agree Calvin. Randy should have had 5years. Al. Golden wouldn't have to suspend Jerome Brown. He would have transfered. If this DC came back. Im with Al but not on defense. Let's see how this year plays out. If nothing changes show Randy S real money for DC. Hey Al put Ray Lewis the dad to work. Don't just let him sit in the stand or on the side line.

Jim Unfair trade practice would not apply here at all....no trade was engaged.....butch davis did nothing wrong at NC....ncaa cleared him.....butch davis is all about performance and he has proven he is a winner plus was able to take a snactioned UM team and make them better.....randy shannon was DC of the 2001 team (the greatest ever)

randy shannon had alot of top florida leans in 2009 including TEDDY BRIDGEWATER....we didnt give him a chance in retrospect....should have never fired him and the way he was fired was f'''cked up...shalala all the way

al golden looses on average 7 games a year...that is his stats....why are we even bothering with a medicore coach? lets see up 52 points 2 mins to go in Duke game and still biting your nails for a win....unbelieveable....or the virginia game or better yet the BC game where chase rettig was on a sightseeing tour.....

tHE troll MUST go! tHE FOOTBALL PROGRAM HAS GONE DOWN HILL SINCE DONNA BECAME PRES. fire HER

I think based on what I see on thse blogs ALL the time that Calvin/Gallo both have some type of learning disability, as they say the SAME things over and over and over again, like a little baby screaming in the corner who wants to be heard. Calvin, what I'm saying is if you don't know what's in his contract, don't ASSUME that it's the same as most of the others and try to pass it off as FACT. You said that nonsense about Texas and Shannon not being able to get paid if he took a job elsewhere. That's simply not true.

Your post makes absolutely NO sense. I told you and provided you with the links that showed that Shannon was entitled to the buyout of his contract (regardless if he was employed elsewhere) if he was fired "without cause". Where and how could you get that I was saying that if a head coach got fired, the school wouldn't have to pay him?

just tell the truth is all....stop lying about shannon and how great golden is because it is not true...

any stats or facts you need just ask...I have it all

"She should also be ready to reveal the charges against UM. After demanding and lauding the principle of transparency, she should practice it. Shalala’s indignation is valid — and strategic. But her school, under her watch, has been accused of “lack of institutional control,” the Doomsday Switch of NCAA accusations. If that is unfair or unsubstantiated, then show why."

roberstson is right on...exactly....as I have said....what would UM sue over to begin with and do you really want to open up a can or worms with more shapiro claims that are supported with credit cards reciepts, photos and phone records....shalala has no idea what ncaa has and to be cavalier and mouth off like UM is goiing to take it to ncaa is stupid and rookie.....

any action from UM only create more issues for UM....the smart thing to do is let ncaa save face....negotiate behind the scenes and hope UM s met most of the sanctions already...let ncaa levy a token sanction for apperances and let it DIE and MOVE ON.

she is an idiot...watch, more to come

No trade was engaged? Does the $8200 and a disposable cellphone provided to Shapiro in exchange for information against Miami not constitute "trade"? I'm not a lawyer and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night so I'm not going to pretend to know Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade practices law. I'll leave that up to Florida's Attorney General. I just included the link to the article and passed on the Legislator's concern.

why is shalala even still here? will the board ask for her resigation? Is this something already in the works but she dosent know it or is looking the wrong way?

holding a check and "lack of instituional control"...how does a CEO survive this? any other corporation would remove her by the board of directors....

she is trying to rehabiliate herslf....dont be suprise if she is fired....

She has to stay on now in order to fight the ncaa. You can't ask a new prez to take time from more important matters to fight those fools.

first of all unfair trade pertains to a commerce issue.....there was no commerce or any type commerce agreement between the ncaa and shapiro....so those transactions did not produce and unfair advantage that gave shaprio and the ncaa a competitive advantage in the market place....paying for someones phone bills to get investigative information is not a unfair trade practice no is it illegal & ncaa has given UM the reciepts of this transaction....the AG is looking for headlines is all....

If this blog keeps on the way that it is, then Gallows and Calvina could write notes to each other and one could have the option of reading their love letters..

As we have said many times ignore and skip is the formula that is best re these 2.

Note the trend...Kill you with mundane stats..bring every discussion to randy,. and criticize everything Coach G does because he can't relate to the 'hood..

If one needs to keep reading this crap ad infinitum then fine..if not skip the dribble and follow the headline.Today it is Comments on the NCAA, which their posts do not address in any detail..here we are discussing the merits of shannon.

This is a Calvina and Gallows Conspiracy to turn anything that is headlined into their own shannon and butch fest... dragging other posters in who go for their buffonery.

Can't you all see this agenda..in fact go back and read posts for months and this is a recurring theme.
Do not fall for their S**** because it does not help our 'Canes and it is distraction from two trolls that have been kicked off other boards, and detracts from our recruiting and discussions..

Calvin explain to us why you were kicked off other blogs?...we need details.

Thanks,

I have said it before, no more thugs at the U, whether they come from South Florida or not. Yes let's sent a message to the local High Schools. Shape up your kids as soon as they walk in the door. Hey Calvin why dont you just say if hes not a homeboy you wont like or give credit. RS cant coach, cant recruit and had no restrictions when he "recruited" and still was lazy and lame. Set up shop @ Arkansas w/ your boy. It fits your intellect.

Come on man, it's common sense that no school wanted to hire shannon in the midst of him having to sue Miami as well. Do you really think shannon could have just walked right into another University after being fired an owed money by another University, that's just not common sense, and that's before the lawsuit. Do your research, there is a reason most fired coaches don't take jobs right away after getting fired.

Maybe you can apologize for trying to sound like you have the facts, but shannon sat out for a few reasons contract included.

Read Florida's deceptive and unfair trade practices act. It covers more than just "commerce" issues. It covers both for profit and non profit entities. You could say that the NCAA had an "interest" in Shapiro's information and violated its own policies in order to obtain an unfair advantage over UM. I dont know for sure but I think that's where Abruzzo was going with his letter to the FLORIDA AG (who isn't looking for headlines because he's not the one who wrote the letter requesting his office for the probe). I agree that UM should make their NOA public but not until after the punishment has been levied and UM decides to sue or appeal.

I'm not the one trying to pass off speculation as FACTS. Personally, I think Shannon wanted another head coaching job and didn't want to take a DC job. He was getting paid by Miami regardless (see the links aka research) so why would he take a job that he didn't want? He could work as a college football analyst for ABC or ESPN to keep his name out there and hopefully get another Head Coaching shot. Thats just what I think he was doing but I'm not going to make up stuff like Texas didnt want to pay him and whatever. Why don't you do your research and gives us your sources instead of talking down to people and calling them out when you, yourself are only speculating (based on your common sense).
