Canes land commitment from hungry, versatile, athletic 2014 Hialeah QB Alin Edouard

Just when you thought the recruiting news had reached an end point down in Coral Gables, here is some more for you: Al Golden and his coaching staff have landed a commitment from another quarterback of the future -- 2014 Hialeah High standout Alin Edouard.

The 6-2 3/4-inch, 185-pound signal caller, who stood out at UM's Junior Day last weekend, picked up three new offers around lunchtime Wednesday: Boston College, Penn State and Miami. By dinner, he made up his mind. He called UM associate head coach Mario Cristobal and told him he wanted to be a Hurricane.

"When I went to Junior Day at Miami I felt like I was already home," Edouard said. "I was the only QB there. I got a chance to speak with [offensive coordinator James] Coley for awhile just one-on-one. He basically wanted to find a quarterback who could run and throw, have accuracy and be a leader on the field. He said I had all those tools.

"When I called Coach Cristobal tonight I don't think he saw [my commitment coming]. I kind of caught him off guard. But he was very happy. So was Coach Golden."

Hialeah coach Mark Berman, a coaching veteran of nearly 30 years in Miami-Dade County, said the Hurricanes have landed a rising star. After starting in a handful of games a sophomore, Edouard started all nine games for the 5-4 T-Breds this past season and put up decent numbers in a Zone Read spread offense. He completed 64 of his 132 attempts for 926 yards, 9 TDs, 9 INTs and ran for a team-leading 559 yards and seven touchdowns. Berman said Edouard has a lot of room to grow because he's only been playing football since the ninth grade.

"When it's all said and done everybody is still going to offer the kid," Berman said. "Miami got in at the right time. He had a great junior day and has really been doing well during 7-on-7. I think Coach Coley saw his arm strength and saw what he can do when he takes off running. Alin runs a 4.6.

"Everybody in college football today is running a zone-read, whether it's in a two back or one back spread. UM ran a lot of zone read last year. I think Coach Coley's philosophy is similar to Coach Fisch. What Alin gives you is that extra ability. He can take off any moment and break off a long run. He reminds me of a young Vince Young."

Edouard, the first Hialeah player to commit to UM since defensive lineman Adewale Ojomo, said he grew up a Canes fan since middle school. "I used to watch Jacory Harris in the seventh grade a lot and always admired him," Edouard said. "I've even built a little bit of a relationship with Stephen Morris from going to games.

"I'm going to say this is it for me. I know there are always other opportunities that might come. But I'm sure I'm going to Miami. They want me to play quarterback and that's what I want to do."

Edouard said he had previous offers from Ole Miss, FIU and Louisiana-Lafayette before Tuesday. Berman said Canes fans should follow Edouard closely his senior year and take a look at his junior highlights to see "the kind of hungry player he is."

"He can throw every ball out there. His arm strength is as good as you're going to find. Maybe I'm prejudice. I think he's the best quarterback anywhere around here," Berman said. "He goes all out all the time. The first game of the year we had a running back break like a 70-yard run down the field. You know who was his lead blocker? Alin. He's done it two or three other times. He just loves football."

> Berman said UM has shown interest in a couple others of his talented juniors at Hialeah including center Alique Terry (6-2, 285) and defensive tackle Tony Baxter (6-3, 300). Neither of those players though have offers from the Canes.

Welcome to The U. Kids sounds hungry to me. Sign him up, Maybe a red-shirt since we have Olsen next year as a RS. So, we could start to build up the QB pipe line with talented and mature players when their turn comes.

This kid is scary. Long strides. Reminds me of colin kaepernick. I likey. New cane.

Welcome

But heres the low down of the U:

11-0 in the ACC
20-3

Miami deserves a#1 ranking. Theyre for real. Larkin is for real.

11-0 what

11-0
What?
11-0
What?
11-0what what?

What? What?

Come 2013 and 2014, Canes Football are going to be doing what Basketball is doing this year...

Slaying giants baby...

Much needed addition giving his skills shown on the footage above, I'm willing to say he will leave a legacy at UM... This team has quickly become a loaded with future household names... But AG should offer the kid Quincy Wilson the kid is goin to be a game changer on the defensive side

Wow, He looks so much like Jacory harris!! Same rubberband arm....but he can run well!!!

I will say this, i think jedd fisch ability to evaluate qb's was based more on his self confidence in his ability to coach qb's. The 3 qb's we brought in while jedd was here(dewey, williams & crow, i'm not going to count david thompson) but those 3 are real suspect, nothing special about them and will prabbly get passed up by these guys coming in. Although preston dewey might be decent, i know he's accurate though, but ryan williams, lol, crow, lol, dewey to me has the best chance of holding kevin olsen off.

If lil ray is not going to stay at runningback, i highly doubt this tennessee commit at 170lbs soak & wet is going to stay at runningback. If he is, he won't see the field for at least antoher year, i'm almost certain he'll be on the defensive side of the ball in order to be effective or he'll be a receiver, but a runningback right now, lol. If this guy stays a runningback, that's going to be fun to see how he actually holds up.

I could careless about who's committing for that 2014 class, i don't care to much for highlight tapes, they're just that, highlight tapes so they're suppose to look good, he might be a goo player but the sorriest tape i've seen so far is rashard robinson, whoever made his highligt film was trippin. Anyway, he'll do well in baton rouge.

Based on the video Alin certainly looks to be faster than a 4.6 forty.

He's deadly accurate and is a football player with great instincts.

When you watch the video keep in mind he was a junior...this kid has big upside.

Another great job Coach Golden and Mario.

This kid is really something. He reminds me of Tyrod Taylor. So, I'm guessing Olsen will be redshirted and will battle in 2014 and Alin will redshirt and battle in 2015. If this is the case then our pipeline of QB's has gotten unbelievably solid.

Good highlight video. Kid has some great skills. I love watching a QB that can toss a 40 yd pass on a rope. Has good running skills with good evasive moves and an excellent second gear once in the secondary. I only saw two weaknesses in the video. First is having happy feet while in shotgun. In college games this could cause a false start of an early jump by the opponents DL/DEs. Second is his throwing to RBs in the flats. Too many were behind the runner. All-in-all, a good find.

Great recruiting news with this young man and two recent 2013 signings! Alin has the hearrt of a True Cane!

Congrats to the Canes Hoops team for a tough road win. They sure found a way to make it interesting in the last few minutes. Great tenacity by a great team!

Got to say, some bad calls by the refs in this game. And the female Espn commentator slobbered all over FSU throughout the game. You would have thought FSU was trouncing UM. She extolled the virtues of Snaer in the clutch, and so when it was crunch time, he threw up an air ball. Very fitting.

Great job Canes...Keep strong against Clemson this Saturday!

This guy we got from Tennessee today is a solid player, he gonna bring some additonal speed in the game with Duke Johnson and the guy from Virgian,,3 star player score 24 touchdowns this past year with 2400 all purpose yards,,the athletes are coming~

IF WE CAN JUST FIX THE DEFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL AS WELL THAN WE ARE PRIMED FOR A NC RUN IN 2014 AND 2015. THE KEY IS A ACC CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR, A BOWL GAME VICTORY, AND ANOTHER GOOD RECRUITING CLASS AND YES WE CAN WIN A NC. TO DO ALL THIS THE DEFENSE MUST IMPROVE FROM 117TH TO TOP 15. IF THIS HAPPENS AND OFFENSE IMPROVES FROM LAST YEAR THIS TEAM WITH IT'S SCHEDULE COULD GO UNDEFEATED. THAT'S RIGHT I WANT TO BE THE FIRST TO SAY IT! UNDEFEATED!!. THE TOUGHEST TEST WILL BE AT FSU, AND AT NC. WITH AN IMPROVED DEFENSE THAT PRODUCES SACKS,INTS,AND LOSS YARDAGE WE CAN BEAT BOTH. THE CANES HAVE TOO MUCH EXPLOSIVENESS ON OFFENSE TO STOP FOR 4 QTS. WITH DUKE,MORRIS,DORSETT,HURNS,WOFFORD,SCOTT,WATERS,AND THE ENTIRE OL RETURNING PICK YOUR POISON. NC HAS NO BERNARD THIS YEAR AND FSU HAS TO USHER IN A NEW QB. IF THE CANES CAN BECOME A DOMINANT PASS RUSHING TEAM, THEY CAN FORCE TEAMS TO HAVE TO TRY AND KEEP THEIR OFFENSE OFF THE FIELD BY TRYING TO RUN THE BALL. THAT'S MAKE THE OPPONENTS ONE DEM. THIS MAKES DUNNO JOB EASIER AND LET'S PRAY HE DOESN'T BLOW IT. GO CANES 2013 ACC CHAMPS!!!

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY KID!

11-0 in the ACC

20-3 overall

#1 seed in the tournament?

Will the NCAA allow UM to play in the tournament?

So far no new from the NCAA

Were supposed to conclude their self examination report last week and hand out the Notice of Allegations Monday. So far nothing. They keep Miami hanging. Hurting the U in different ways. This is fraudulent. Wish someone did something at the government level. Maybe Marco Rubio canintroduce a bill sanctioning the NCAA or limiting its power.

Don't look now but that's 3 2014 commits from SoFlo. Dumbasses.

Olsen is the QB of the future. A pro type QB, not this spread zone read crap.

Reminds me of RG-III when he runs and Aaron Rogers when he throws. An overall Johnny Manziel and sure Heisman contender in 2014.

Appalachian St., FIU and LA. Lafayette's Loss and oUr GAIN !!!

Nice! Go Canes

After watching Olsons highlights, the kid can run. Will be a good weapon to have when he gets in trouble.

@360cane

So were Keith Bryant and Alex Collins....

It ain't how many commits you get but how many u SIGN!!

Besides its not the 'cruiting I'm worried about with Al and his bunch its getting out coached game day after game day. Whitlock tried to put the bug in our ear 2 years ago but mugs insisted some type of nick satan clone...bafoonery...

Especially dumbnofrio...

Al running around pissed at some local HS coaches all the while giving his Mac crew a pass.. Hypocritical if you ask me...

The offense had as many new freshmen and new starters as the defense and finished in the top 3O or so...

Mugs hollering the defense will be better...I hope so, they can't fall much further being 117th. Tha fool would prolly have problems stopping the offenses of MNW or BTW!!!

Hell Miami (OH) finished higher...if that don't embarrass the hell out of ya I don't know what will

they mysterious scholarships have appeared, lol

"The only thing I'll say and I don't believe in airing that out publicly so I'm not going to that. Again, there is a difference between pulling a scholarship and having none left. It's tough when you get to this point in the year. If it's any normal year, I can absorb going over one. But we had a hard ceiling this year because of the self imposed penalties and I was up against it. The commitments that i had gotten a run on commitments Wednesday, Thursday and you're out. So, that's all I can say to that in terms of just making sure we're on the same page. I was against a hard ceiling and I had no room."

but not for you denver kirkland....welcome cornelius elder and ryheem lockley....

Great, another highly ranked recruit. He is the #12 rated 2014 QB from Florida. Looks like a Manziel and Luck combination but only better.
Golden is got to be the best recruiter ever, we are primed for an ACC ship and a run at the NC.
We are so loaded, no one is going to be able to stop our high scoring offense. James Coley is a genius with tons of experience, he will unveil the never seen before 6 TE set and will befuddle opposing defenses worst than he befuddles Donofrios defense on a daily basis.
Don't be surprised if Golden brings in 2 more WR before all is said and done.
Go Canes! Go Golden!!

and still no word from the NCAA.

UM has to solve the free-throw issue....they almost lost last night because of it.....if you dont hit those baskets when you go to the line....you will not advance in sweet 16....not against teams like indiana...how about those uconn huskys.....beat syracuse.....

here is a team on sanctions (uconn) playing like they are in the sweet 16....thats how you recruit for next year......too bad golden didnt do the same playing fsu then putting on a show for recruits in sunlife in front of home crowd.....its called growing pains, lol

Gaklo you st-pid dooshh- The FSU game was close. Um had FSU against the ropes. They lost but it was a hard fought game. Recruits would have been impressed by the crowd and the energy of this FSU-UM game. But you wouldnt know what that is like because a dweeb like yourself likely never played a sport in your life- unless you count pin the tail on the racoon

Go canes-
I stand with the U

I'm just wondering about this young man from Tennessee, did Al Golden and staff get Sileo's permission? After all the kid isn't from the 305, hey Little Luke did they check with you? What's up here? Who do they think runs the U's football program, the nerve they showed without checking with these two giants of football knowledge in south Florida!

A road win is a road win Gallo....its tuff 2 win on the road.
#2 Nice pick up. He is still a Jr now in high school, so we wont get him until the fall of 2014, if he redshirts, he can be olsens backup or possibly beat him out..... Dewey was rated an ESPN 150 an Elite 11 qb as well so no one is talkin about this kid. ITs like the Dorsey thing. Everyone wanted the kenny kid, that quit to play pro baseball and was like oh crap a skinny freshman qb, well dorsey went to 3 bcs bowls.

You have to have qb depth, Injuries happen all the time. We are loaded with qb depth now. RB Depth , WR Depth, Next yr, Id say we take 3-4 DT's and we shuld b in good shape

Jim Gallo....What Syracuse coach Boeheim said to ESPN reporter Andy Katz applies to you. If the shoe fits......

larkin and scott are dynamic and larkin is nice and aggressive...but still free throws can sink them....Um was not good last night.....if ian miller FSU hit that 3 pointer...UM would have lost....the momentum had shifted to fsu...however, hitting those free-thoew would have negated fsu last minute surge

got to fix it

I get the impression this kid is in NEXT years class. If he is I won't count him as signed yet that's a year away.

Corn Elder from the local paper..

One time for #57 on the current roster

http://www.tennessean.com/article/20130213/SPORTS07/302130159/Ensworth-s-Corn-Elder-picks-Miami?nclick_check=1

I love it...kevin ollie (rookie) carves out jim boeheims terrible 2-3 zone defense, lol, then he goes crying like a b...tch to espn...maybe

"So the falcon's heard the falconer, huh?
Gordon Gekko

maybe boeheim can barrow doris burke's tampon, lol

Gallo you keep beating a dead horse about Kirkland. AG pulled the scholarship because he knew Kirkland was not going to Miami. Why do you keep harping on this with a kid that was not coming here any way ? These scholarships are not appearing it's just that AG was going to limit the amount we use to help with the sactions but if a good player comes along that wants to be a Cane you can't pass them up.Go Canes

ROFL, OH NO, bring the fire. They don't know, but just ask cool cat what he thinks of clown 117, he calls em "dunno today, dunno tomorrow just dunno" rofl. Cracks me up every time. I'm no jason whitlock fan, but he was making a whole lot of sense to me back when you posted up that article and for 2 years now, he's been right on point. He might just look better this year though because of mario and coley who understands this level of football a whole lot better than goldie.

But from a defensive standpoint, and it's funny to me how in the off season, clown 117 looks relaxed as ever cause he know he has a job until September, but right now, he's stealing money. We keep hearing they're witing for guys to get bigger and stronger before we can have a good defense, what i want to know is, while the guys are smaller, why are they still not in position to make plays, getting bigger and stronger i not going to help with that, that's for sure.

What's the difference in running a zone while smaller or stronger. If that's what they're waiting on, we might as well start recruiting nfl players than. This is not penn disgrace, we're a speed defense, they got 3g looking(slow as molasses now) like a typical big 10 d-linemen.
/////////////////////////////

At the rate goldie is going, you're going to start hearing announcers say, "it use to be Miami with all the speed on defense, but they're getting out speeded today, times have change, alot of teams have speed now these days"

That's the direction we're headed in, it's a philosophical flaw that won't bring a national championship here with that defensive scheme, it's to easy to get abused running that crap!

Did we get the HGH test results yet from the baseball team?

gacane...sorry thats not what golden said....

here is his exact quote.....

"Again, there is a difference between pulling a scholarship and having none left. It's tough when you get to this point in the year. If it's any normal year, I can absorb going over one. please cut and paste where he says kirkland wasnt comming?

I've never been a fan of the spread, I'm a pro-style guy myself, but this kid is a good athlete and I don't recall ever having that type of athlete lining up at QB....could be interesting

MY PREDICTION FOR 2014 RECRUITING:

HUGE HAUL

Why?

1) NFL Playoffs and Superbowl was showtime for the Canes program. Every kid who wants to be an NFL star realizes that The U never stopped being the NFL Pipeline Program

2) NCAA a55-suckers has spent up their 2+years their sham

3) Canes Basketball + Wade/James: this is the interesting part: what kid wouldn't have stars in his eyes to realize that The U isn't just a powerhouse tradition, but to be reminded we are in an INTERNATIONAL and SUPERSTAR city. What football kid wouldn't want to be at a school where stars like LBJ and Wade showing up to our basketball games? Rubbing elbows with greats?

You can't ignore the star power.

How the hell's going to show up at Arkansas? FSU? UF? USF? Even Alabama?

Every HS Kid is realizing that The U is on the rise. Superstars, including movie and music stars are frequent fans at the Heat games. Every kid will realize if he wants the opportunity to shine on one of the BIGGEST STAR stages in sports have that chance here.

It's like a wanna-be actor going to Hollywood where the stars are made.....

4) And i have a great marketing tool for both The U and The Heat. Form a deal where The Heat players show up to Canes games, and Canes kids showing up to Heat games. Increases the Canes/Heat relationship, increases Canes fans to buy heat tickets. Win/Win.

Don't you question for one moment that AG isn't seeing this and working the back channels to increase our visibility to the kids.

Canes Basketball, Heat basketball.... star level recognition and championship caliber teams on the rise.

And the rising tide will lift the Football program as well.

westcoast....nobody cares about those thngs....thats why the top florida recruits all went to alabama, ND, FSU and florida.....

kirkland and collis went to arkansas, which couldnt be farther away from all your desperate reasoning, lol

BUT SERIOUSLY:

I am tired of this Miami Herald "Hurricanes" blog.

Our basketball team is doing the equivalent of the Football team beating Alabama, FSU, Oregon, Kansas State and there's literally NO coverage by Manny and Susan. NONE!

F*ck when are we going to get some REAL Hurricanes coverage? They are still fixated on recruiting!

Dan Sileo said it right this morning "4 out of 20 recruits will end up starting at any school, it's great to get good recruits, but it doesn't mean squat until they show up, practice and make the starting team..."

Maybe some of you need to take that info in and move on already. These are HS school kids who haven't proven anything yet, and likely won't for another 1-2 years.

The performance of the 2013 Canes will still be 95% dependent on the kids coming back from the 2012 team.

Forget the recruits and leave it to the coaches to coach them up.

Let's move ON ALREADY!

Talk about beating dead horses....

We are good without any help from the u. Worry about your PEDs.

PS no NCAA sham, you penalized yourself so there is truth to the Shapiro stuff. Kyle Wright sang like a canary....

Gallo it was well documented that Kirkland was asked to give a committment and he would not , common sense tells you that he was not coming ,you don't have to be a genious to know that. Because I am not all knowing and privey to all this inside knowledge as you are it is my opinion that AG had a number in his head that he wanted to stop at and being sure that Kirkland was not coming decided that was the number , but did not anticipate these new commitments that were excited about becoming Canes he had to raise his own number , remember he was the one putting a cap on the scholarships not the ncaa so he used his own discretion .Go Canes

GALLO:

You know how/why the scholarship disappeared for Kirkland and re-appeared for Elder and Edouard?

BECAUSE AG IS THE MOTHEREFFFING BOSS!

DUH!

If you actually worked a job for anyone who owns their own business you would understand. The boss will do what he damn well wants to make his business successful. Who gives a damn what you think of his style.

If you do question it, maybe you ought to study a couple of guys who also don't stay true to their own script..... Saban and Meyer.... real losers for not keeping their words with recruits?

You're right WestCoastCane. Those two idiots, the All-knowing Calvin and Cameltoe Joe Gallo, have the football IQ of a pinto bean. They would save everyone a lot of grief if they would just trade emails and write their dribble to one another. Nobody here gives a f**k about their opinion on how Al Golden is managing the Canes. If they were such geniuses, we'd see them on a college football sideline.

GALLO:

"Nobody cares about those things"

No, nobody who sits at home all day and doesn't even go to a Canes game cares about those things.

Real Canes fans and recruits do care.

Your exhibiting your ignorance all too clear Gallo.

Jim gallo was raped by his puppy while his patents watched... This guy is a class a screwball nut job... How can you deny or disputes what westcoastcane is sayin Miami is the best city an one the top international cities anywhere... Someone loan him a gun with two bullets just incase the fckn dummy missing his in his suicide attempt

The 3 qb's we brought in while jedd was here(dewey, williams & crow, i'm not going to count david thompson) but those 3 are real suspect.....What have these 3 done?? Luckily RS managed to snatch Morris 3 years ag0..

I'm starting to believe that Jim Gallo is actually Manny Navarro. His crazy comments keeps the blog busy with commentary

Gallo was dry humping the Canes basketball team only a few days ago gleefully claiming they would be in the NCAA's finals.

After reading his band wagon comments I predicted after a loss he would be tearing them apart.

Obviously, I was wrong, because after a great, close game with the Noles he's taking shots at the kids and coaching due to them not winning by 30 points or more.

Additionally, he continues with the Kirkland lies and other lies about Coach Golden.

When the Canes come out strong on the football field this Fall his position will be that their success has nothing to do with Al Golden, but should they lose a game then he will claim it's all Al Golden's fault.
