Kirkland tells UM thanks, but no thanks

They tried.

UM coaches met with Booker T. All-American offensive tackle Denver Kirkland Saturday and his mother, but weren't able to sway him to commit his stepfather, Shanton Crummie said.

"We appreciate everything Coach Golden and their coaches did in giving him another chance to be apart of their class and talking to him about what happened," said Crummie, who did not attend Saturday afternoon's meeting but gathered the details of it by speaking with Kirkland and his mother.

"The confusion here is that not many people were aware they had been telling us things were getting tight with scholarships. We told them Denver might have a decision by Feb. 1 or Feb. 2. We were just surprised and upset when they came to school Thursday and told him they couldn't wait any longer. We thought he would have until Signing Day as long as we told them they were in front or close. But they couldn't wait."

A source told The Miami Herald, assistants Art Kehoe, James Coley and Micheal Barrow were among those who attended the meeting. Head coach Al Golden was not there, the source said.

Crummie said Kirkland had Miami high "up there with Arkansas" because of academics, but when they pulled the scholarship he was hurt and just never felt the same again.

"In the end we have no bad blood with Coach Golden or UM," Crummie said. "We understand what happened and they explained why they did what they did. They were hoping they could change his mind, but after talking it out he just decided it was best to move on."

Crummie said Kirkland will decide between Arkansas and Florida State and make his announcement on Signing Day.

UM still has hope it will land Kirkland's teammate star linebacker Matthew Thomas. National Signing Day is Wednesday.

ACtually Calvin, Univ of TEXAAS and some other big schools have their classes rapped up by March or april for the following year, and AL GOLDEN IS TRYING TO DO THAT.........THE U SCHOLARHSHIP OFFER, WHEN OFFERED, IS ACCEPTED OR YOU MOVE ON. Artie Burns moved up to #70 overall regardless of position on ESPN for example, and hes never wavered.....Kevin Olsen, #1 qb in New Jersey, never wavered. Alquadding Mohammed went on tv at the army all amercian game to say yes.

My point is Golden is sending a mesage that the U offer means WE DONT PLAY GAMES.

I put that list out because we are going to nail most of those kids...........

Calvin, If Al Golden does get the bulk of these highly rated kids, are you going to give him his due or continue to babble about your college football intellect and what Miami "should" do?

I am also not surprised that you and Jim "Mangina" Gallo have struck up a bromance. The IQ bewteen the two of you is probably that of a pinto bean.

Frankly, I was more entertained with CanesNoles85 rationale that FSU is better than UM because their women are loose.

Bring back the loose women!

Hey Calvin I'm not in love with AG I just think he deserves a chance without his hands tied with these sanctions. And the reason I say "deserves" is because he did'nt bail when all this stuff that had nothing to do with him came down. Nobody would have blamed him, hell I think most thought he would cause thas setting yourself up for failure and this is his career , not a great recipe for success , yet he is still here working to make this thing work . He should get a chance , if it dont work out then we can all move on. go Canes

You know what's funny is, alot of people don't respect kenny phillips and what he does, but that man is a baller, superbowl champ along with antrelle rolle, that's another one of them things, when has that ever happened, to Miami safties playing on the same team at the same time, lol.

Al Golden was opening up slots for a reason. U dont launch a 4 star Olineman from Miami unless hes playing games and b you hear talk hes not coming to Miami(remember our OC coley was at FSU).

2. There is a reason he hasnt filled the slots open yet with Thomas, Grace, Collins, Coley ,Cunningham, 3 DTackles, yet. IF HE KNEW MOST WERENT COMING, DONT YA THINK MIAMI HAS A BACKUP???WE HAVE TOO MANY SILENTS RIGHT NOW SO SOMEONE HAD TO GO. We have 3 Oline committs, and if was jerkin us around, LAUNCH HIM.

Look , 2 1/2 more days, then U will all come on here saying Golden wont coach them up, they will be busts. etc.

Even if we dont get Matt Thomas, Grace, Coley or Cunningham at Wr or both, Collins, 3 DT's, I AM SURE WE HAVE A BACKUP, OR KEEP THOSE SLOTS FOR SUMMER TIME KIDS THAT FELL THRU THE CRACKS..........

HURRICANE WARNING IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!

They say juco Lb committ Donte Bond is a DE, so that means no LB committs right now, no WR committs , and no RB committs(Ray lewis is athlete and lockley that committed va is athlete)
So if your a local kid that wants to play early, (FSU HAS 4 LB COMMITTS ALREADY), Why would U not sign?
Thomas and Grace make perfect sense and Grace and Tracy Howard and Lewis our Injured WR were teammates, Collins would split carries with DUke and play immediately, and the 2 Wide Receivers Jordan cunnigham and Stacy Coley can also play right away with NO WR COMMITTS>

Al is setting himself up nice. Do we maybe not get all of em? possibly? But, Depth charts matter, incoming class matters, and miami has no committs and the pending kids all fit those positions and AL is opening up slots. ......so lets see on wednesday.

I would b happy if we got half on that rivals list of panelists

I don't get to hype over recruits coming in, i kind of wish it was still like the od days when alot of people had no clue of who was coming in and where they were from until they got to UM. Now these kids are getting exposed to grown-ups who call them names because their recruiting process is being exposed publicly, so now people get to see all the normal back & forth that goes on in the recruiting world.

So if goldie gets all these guys, i'll just be glad that he got alot of guys that he's suppose to get in our own backyard, nothing special to me. You remember in his own words when goldie said to that idiot reporter "aren't we suppose to win these battles in our own backyard against bama and Fsu".

Now if he goes and gets impact players from out of state, i'll be impressed if they become impact players. I don't get hype over highschool recruits, get hype over players that actually start making plays during real UM games.

For instance, whatever d-tackles we might end up with, i don't see none of them starting over the d-tackles we have now, so i won't get hype about some highschooler coming in until he proves himself and justifies the hype. In fact, the guys after curtis porter and olsen pierre will make some noise this year, guys like corey king and dequan ivery and even earl moore, those guys are not trying to get beat out by some freshmeat coming out of highschool, those guys are still hunyto, i'm mr interested in teguys already on the team.

Like what are we going to do with jelani hamilton come next year, alot of talent that this coaching staff is trying to figure out where to put em.

It's funny to me how alot of people keep dogging keith bryant cause that man keeps playing round with these recruiting sites, i'd do the same thing with alot of these grown-up clowns getting frustrated cause that man keeps em guessing, he's doing right, everbody will know when h signs. That man can careless about these recruiting sites in his business. He's having fun, of course go and get free food and free gifts, lol. Yet if that man comes here, alot of people will be glad he's here.

Don't be hypocrites with these kids and the recruitin process, that's why alot of yall shouldn't kno most of the information that's been put out their, makes you become judgemental maniacs.

Seems like this Calvin guy is getting all butthurt. Dude, it is all just speculation, get off the high horse and be optimistic about what this class can do for the future. I thought we are all supposed to be Canes fans on here, but all I read is a bunch of winey babies! Come on Man!

lol..please golden hs been playing games with these kids all year.....I still dont know why paul was let go...do you?...fyi, nothing is ever "mutual"

Not that i like the redskins, but i would luv to see mike james play their. Imagine that man behind that type of o-line blocking.

Hre's to hoping we james coley doesn't come home and try and run the same version of offense that gumbo redneck fisher is running. The same one that inept 117 seems to have semi figured out for 2 years straight.

rofl, excues can only be used for so long. They should've fired oach OH-NO after saying what he said after that k st. game. goldie has no crdibility when it comes to trying to co-sign for inept 117!

“Wherever she likes the best on my official visit, that’s where I’m going to end up at.”...matthew thomas after under amour game....

"Thomas visited FSU a week ago and labeled the trip “perfection.” Perhaps more significantly was his mom’s approval. At one point, after Thomas watched the Senior Bowl with coach Jimbo Fisher, defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt and linebacker’s coach Charles Kelly, he slipped on an FSU jersey. “I like the way that looks,” his mom said, according to Warchant.com. “Just the way it should be.”

thomas and kirkland both go to fsu.....this plus they are best friends / teamates....

It's going to be fun to see who's use to playing in big games. We already know, ray lewis got a superbowl ring already, we already know ed reed got a college championship already. We know frank gore got a championship already, anybody think tommy streeter feels like he made a mistake now, lol.

anybody think tommy streeter feels like he made a mistake now, lol.

Posted by: Calvin | February 03, 2013 at 06:14 PM

Streeter got drafter barely. He lost quite a bit of money by getting out last year. Now, he is on IR. That will be a great way to win the big one, sitting on the sidelines.

I'm trying not to go to sleep while alicia keys sings this national anthem, can she hurry up!

I like that coin toss, no handshakes, time to go to war. suggs trying to look at gore like that, gore ready to run thu em, this game is off the chain!

I got the harbaugh brother for san francisco going deep early, he doesn't know how to play conservatve. At the same time, 2.0 e-reed is waiting on em!

In the real world there is consequences for your actions. On Al Golden's team, if you steal a laptop, you're not living up to your end of the bargin and are of the team. If you work at a corporation and violate their rules you get fired. Welcome to the real world

Let's not compare this to corporate jobs, like jim gallo said, do ou really think if it was duke johnson or smo17 who stole that laptop it would've been handled the same way.

A corporation/company peope work for, they pay you to do that and more often than not, those companies aren't promoting family values. When you go to work is someone giving you a pre-game work speech saying "let's work for each other today, let's dominate this work and we'll be champions".

I highly doubt that's happenng man at corporation around the world!

bring in alex smith, lol!

i knew reed was going to get one, if san francisco gets down 21 to 3 and have to pass, reed will have an opportunity to definitely be the defensive mvp of the game.

The ravens playing UM style football, deferred to the 2nd half, goldie comes in and keeps starting the game with our offense, lol. UM football, always defer to the 2nd half, but i guest if you don't have no faith either in your boy as oach OH-NO, i can understand why you do it.

Sit Tight Fellas, enjoy the ride, The U is on the Rise!!!..........Coffee is for closers only...And Al drinks alot of Coffee(if you have seen that movie you will know what Im talkin about).....

Oh Gallo, you are really something. I looked up the meaning of Gallo. Loosely translates in the Cherokee tongue as "Indian who makes love to Buffalo."

Hey Calvin you cannot let a player get away with stealing anything ,and yes it might have been different for Duke or Morris but it as not them so that gives you the opportunity to send the right message to the other players . Go Canes

Isnt Gallo a cheap wine? (sorry there Jim)

I mentioned earlier but How come when miami pulls a scholly from some primidonna we dont need wanting is 15min theres article after article and blogs. The Gators pull the scholly on Daytonas(Higher ranked then DK) Quinton Powell and no mention from the turd or any espns or rival headlines like the U did.
Because when your down people like to kick U.

Cant wait to be back on top again, muschump and dumbo at FSU will flock something up...

Nobody is saying let a plaer get away with stealing, he's not the first player to steal something at UM and won't be the last, there are alot of in houe things yu can do and before kicking a player off a team omake restitution, goldie doesn't understand that part yet. He'll soon come to realize he's dealing with a different minset of playersdown here. It's easy when you making over 1.5 million a year to not understand, bobbybowden understood it as well as many college coaches. You take care of your players you don't always just throw them out to the wolves.

Also, this message means nothing but just don't get caught. Where finnie went wrong is who they were trying to sell it back to, before that they were straight, that's what the other are thinking.

People think cause these players are on schalorship they got money, lol.

Somebody didn't pay the electrc bill, they trying to do everything they can to help the 49ers out!

That beyonce concert burnt up all the lights!

No pregame speeches in the real world. They EXPECT you to have a strong work ethic, be responsible, and accountable for your work. If you're not, your replacement is being interviewed on the conference room. That's what happens in the real world when they can't depend on you. He's teaching these kids life lessons and football.

That Edwards kid that decommitted from Syracuse is rated the #1 FB in the nation, big kid, and his visit went well at THE U this weekend. We need to nail him and Collins. Get some bruisers in there..

The last great NY rb the canes went to get was Stephen Maguire. You guys remember him running over Notre Dame in that game . He was good till his knew injury,. I hope it works out with this Edwards kid. Runs like a gazelle for a big fullback and can be a downhill and side to side runner

A couple of things

That last series for san fran showed the exact same play on the same spot when UM played ohio st in 2002. Difference is the refs didnt throw a flag. Phil simms said good no call just like dan fouts did back in 2002.

Frank gore brought them to the 5... And they didnt give him the ball????.?after that? Serious?

Ed reed is first ballot hof

Ray lewis hof

The U has just won the superbowl!

FYI, Arkansas landed 3 commits today and added another RB. Alex collins was deciding between miami and ark. Good sign

What's funny about UM now is, just think, if the world as we know it is still around, warren sapp, a fist ballot hall of famer, ray lewis will be a first ballot hall of famer, ed reed, first ballot hall of famer, JEROME BROWN & SEAN TAYLOR, 1st ballot hall of famers. I would like to know if their has ever been 2 college teammates that are both 1st ballot hall of famers(sapp ray lewis).

These words apparently have the same meaning to the All-knowing Calvin:

There
They're
Their

Miami-Dade education at its best.

Also, we know reggie wayne will get in the hall one day, devin hester will definitely get in, andre johnson, frank gore, edgerrin james should get in their for sure. Guys will start getting in their now. I like that irvin and sapp both will be hall of famers and still commentating, lol together along with neon deion.

You're right Calvin. They all should get in THERE. You should've learned this in Elementary school.

Manny needs to update his picture up there.

Your right man, AG dropped the ball on Kirk.

2012 casualties:

duke and morris - caught with laptop / 40 hours of community service and 1 game suspension (education still paid for and no problem with team)

thats how it would have gone done down....

so ga cane: it would be different if it was morris/duke...but it isnt so its OK.....got it.

no wonder kids are not jumping to committ to UM

I wonder if we really see a suprise by wed:

collins - kirland - thomas....is there a randy shannon effect going on behind the scenes...who knows but is very interesting this NSD

all 3 go to arkansas....

Miami might get one or two more 4 star, for sure nobody will see DK, he is hurt by Miami, needs to grow up, he understands limited scholarships, plus I thinl new OC knows the way he will flip.

Looks like Miami hasn't thrown out the trash Manny. You are a moron.

Did you catch the Rivals.com College Football Home Page, and Recruiting home page? There is an article by Dallas Jackson that just bashed the U and Golden, referring to the "stunning decline" at UM.

Most of it is old news, seasoned with the Kirkland story and references to Harris and Campbell local coaches and self-proclaimed voices of the Miami youth coaching community.

It is a blatant and deliberate Yahoo-sponsored bash of UM, designed to disrupt Miami recruiting.

It is a piece of garbage by a puny intellect, Dallas Jackson, who makes little attempt at objective analysis.

Speaking of "stunning decline," Dallas, don't forget the trash employer, Yahoo, that you work for. A joke in tech circles...And along with your colleague who believed every word out of a psychopath's mouth (Shapiro), you people are an embarassment to what used to be a noble field of endeavor, but at Yahoo is simply more cultural sleaze. Shove it, twerp.

Let people talk because in the end hate , jealousy and animosity can only go so far until it back fires in someone face. The U will be back soon , there is only one way to go and that is UP. Peace!
