Day 1 of Hurricanes' spring football: Golden & James Coley, Hurlie Brown, Larry Scott sign in

Notes from Day One of UM spring practice at Greentree Field, where it was a brisk morning in the mid 50s and there was lots of loud music, including the Harlem Shake (players started doing the Shake during stretching) that blared from the loudspeakers:

Golden on...

*How the changes in the offensive coaching staff (new OC James Coley, new tight ends coach Larry Scott and new RB coach Hurlie Brown) have changed things: "Very little. Coach Coley and the offensive staff have done a great job of keeping the nomenclature, keeping the terminology, so that it's not a radical change for [the players]. That's very unselfish on their part, putting the players' first.

*Coley: "He brings a lot of energy, a lot of knowledge and passion. He's really done a great job taking over. He's put his ego aside because we really didn't want to mess with the quarterbacks and offense too much in terms of the terminology. He has adapted and learned some new terminology. He's putting his spin on things, which is great. He needs to do that. He needs to own it. We're very pleased with the way things are going.''

*Scott: "Larry is the consummate professional, just really brings a depth of experience to that position. I'm really pleased that we got off as well as we did today on offense, despite all the transition.''

*2013 schedule (which appears to be much easier than last year's): "I don't worry about that. We're going to play them one way or the other.''

*Who impressed him during the UTough off-season strength and conditioning program: WR Herb Waters, "RB Dallas Crawford, FB Maurice Hagens, TEs Clive Walford and Asante Cleveland, OL Sunny Odogwu, OT Seantrel Henderson, G Jon Feliciano, DT Curtis Porter, DT Olsen Pierre, LB Alex Figueroa, LB Raphael Kirby, CB Tracy Howard, CB Ladarius Gunter ("He might have had the best offseason of anybody'') and "Highsmith and Kacy were steady as always.''

*Here's who we saw on crutches: linebacker Gabe Terry (right foot in boot), defensive end David Perry (he was recently switched from tight end and had his left foot in a boot).

* We knew those two would be missing spring football, but we didn't know Kacy Rodgers II would come into spring football injured. Rodgers, not listed on the two-deep spring depth chart at safety, is recuperating from minor knee surgery, according to Golden. Rodgers was on the sideline and could not bend his left leg, keeping it very stiff when he walked. "That could be a little while longer, but we expect him to return.''

* Safety A.J. Highsmith, atop the depth chart, wore a red jersey Saturday for no contact. Golden said he has a "little hamstring" injury, but had a "tremendous offseason" and should be back when he's healed.

* Golden confirmed that linebacker Eddie Johnson is still suspended, and that he did not take part in the offseason UTough strength and conditioning program. Golden said he is "hopeful'' that Johnson will return, but unfortunately, the talented redshirt sophomore doesn't have a great track record.

"I'm hopeful. I pray for him everyday that we'll get through this and we'll make it back but it's on him to be honest with you. He has been suspended. He's on campus but he's suspended.'

* Position changes: former DE Tyriq McCord to outside linebacker -- "That's pretty much what he was before. He worked at open-side end or strongside-linebacker for us, and then obviously rushed the passer on third down.'' TE Dyron Dye to DE, where he started his career at UM -- "He had a really good offseason and he's really serious and focused right now.'' TE to DE David Perry -- "Perry is out right now, but he's a welcomed addition to defensive line. We couldn't do that a year ago because we couldn't do that a year ago because we didn't have [former DE and now TE) Jake O'Donnell over there and Beau Sandland and Stan Dobard over at tight end.

*RB Eduardo Clements: "We're hopeful [he returns]. Everything we understand is that he is healing and he should be able to return to the action, but that's out of my hands.''

*Rashawn Scott (previously suspended): "He did a good job and earned an orange shirt.''

*Stephen Morris: "Tremendous first day. He really must be studying the playbook like crazy. There's a self-assuredness, there's a confidence and there's a poise about him that he probably didn't have at this time last year.''

James Coley, the new offensive coordinator:

* On whether he is resorting back to the playbook they used last year or is incorporating his own plays: "It’s a little dabble of both. Football is football. We brought some new things in on Day One and kept some terminology to make it easier for the transition. But obviously we’ll be doing things the way it’s best for this team. So, as far as scheme, we’re going to use our personnel."

*On QB Stephen Morris: "Phenomenal. Sharp kid, a real good qb, a great leader. Things get taught and then he reteaches them."

*On RB Duke Johnson: "If you don’t use him you’re crazy. He’s a dynamic player. He’s explosive. He’s what you want in a guy with the ball in his hands. He changes the scoreboard."

* On any good natured ribbing from friends because he made the switch from FSU: "You can just imagine. It’s been crazy. But it’s all fun. I don’t take it personal. This is my team now and these guys are my players, our players. This is my family now."

*On being back where he grew up in Miami: "Great. I wish the Orange Bowl was still around. That’s a sentimental deal for me. It’s crazy driving by 95 and not seeing the Orange Bowl, you know what I mean? But it’s been good being back home. My dad came to practice today and that’s something I haven’t experienced in about seven years."

*On what his offensive philosophy might be with the Hurricanes: "I think it’s important, especially here, to create a vertical passing game because you have a big offensive line and you can create a vertical running game so I think they go hand in hand rather than dinking and dunking. I think there’s places for a dink and dunk offense but I think this offense needs to be an explosive offense.’’

Tight Ends coach Larry Scott:

*On his lineup of TEs: "They're talented. They do a good job of retaining information. [New junior-college transfer Beau Sandland] "catches the ball well, runs around well and he's focused.'' [Freshman Standish Dobard], as far as raw talent, it's all there. Once he gets it all and continues to learn and develop and mature he's going to be really good.''

Running backs coach Hurlie Brown:

*On Dallas Crawford: "Dallas is one of the hardest working guys I've been around. He works his butt off, he's extremely smart, he's up for it. He's very competitive and loves the game.''

*On transitioning from being a former DB coach: "Attention to detail. Coaching is coaching. As long as you're organized, and that's the biggest key, understanding what your role is and allowing those guys to perform. And teach -- I've got to study a lot more because it's new to me, but that's what you do as a coach.''

Let all these cane bashers on here bash all they want. No one would have said notre dame would go 12-0 last year, but with the experience they brought back, they pulled it out. The canes have a better team than notre dame had last year with all the new talent and the injured guys back, and offense is just as good than any team inc alabama in the country.

Susan, can we ban the UF and FSU homers that rip your blog ? remove their IP's? lol

This is the canes year. Top Basketball Team, Top Baseball team undefeated, and soon to be Acc Champ football team. BASHERS? What dont U get? I know being fans of uf and fsu n not being able to be a top team on aregular basis is tuff, but when saban went to alabama he lost 6 games his 1st yr and DIDNT HAVE SANCTIONS for 3 years pending.
Golden has loaded the roster with athletes all over the field, and now the team is ready to win. Unlike weak sisters to the north, 3 of our losses were to undefeated Notre Dame who played for title, und k state at the time who almost played for title, and at time top 10 FSU........UNC and UVA losses were late losses by combined 5 pts.......Playing 3 top 10 teams for a young team was tough... BUT IT BUILT GREAT DEPTH.

no one expected the U basketball to b good, but Coach L has recruited and built depth ,and now with experience we are winning. Same thing for canes football.
As I mentioned, the 99 canes lost 4 games and gave up 40,31,28,27 times and everyone (bashers) still said Miami was years away, but in 2000 we came on strong. This is 2000 all over again

Gallo is now blaming Coach Golden for injured players not participating in spring drills.

Gallo believes Coach Golden should take the crutches away from Gabe Terry and defensive end David Perry and demand that they practice.

This guy is a five star wingnut!

All these Gallo's are jealous the U football team is almost back to being dominant. With a loaded team, most of our fr got the experience last year, and the team is deep. Its time to win now

Arguing with Gallo

If you got time to waste, better to go scratch yo a55

F*ck Everybody. Go Canes!

Get to know the name. Its C A N E S CANES!!!

Reggie johnson is invisible right now.

He needs to muscle in and dunk that sh$t already!!!

Come on boys, get in the paint!!

Stop the wild shots and move the ball inside

Our team was off tonigjt and Kelly was on fire.

Its a tie season between UM and Duke although we destroyed them and they squeaked past us.

I would bet on Miami in a showdown

Too bad the RESIDENT Cane bUbba, DOMINICK, bloody well FAILED to mention one IMPORTANT tangible bout' MIGHTY Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish had a very, very, very good DEFENSE going into the 2012 season. dUh. Eh. What say.

Heck, Notre Dame's only relative weak spot on defense was their very YOUNG defensive backfield. Nonetheless, that D-unit IMPROVED immensely as the season progressed. Otherwise, the Celts would've NEVER went undefeated. Eh.

Too bad Marky Mark, and SOME of his assistants, terribly, FAILED to improve the ENTIRE defense as the season moved forward in '12.

Damyum y'all Hurricane in-denial goons. Why do y'all believe Miami's defense finished RANKED No.117 in the entire nation.

Again, that's No.117 in all of major college football!

Oh, one more solid-on-down factoid. The Canes absolutely DON'T have no Manny Teo on the D-unit this season.

Here's looking a 8-4 in 2013!

And seriously y'all Cane bUbba's. It's a bloody crying shame that Stevie Morris and the O-unit don't have NO BACKUP, again, this season. A crying shame of a tragedy.

Otherwise, IF Miami DID NOT have one Marky Mark D'Onofrio. I could easily SEE-r a possible 10-2, B.C.S. bowl type of campaign.

Bon jour et Bonsoir

Too bad the RESIDENT Gator bUbba, Gallo, bloody well FAILED to mention one IMPORTANT tangible bout' MIGHTY Louisville.

The Cardinals had a very, very, very good DEFENSE going into the 2012 season. dUh. Eh. What say.

Heck, Louisville’s only relative weak spot on defense was their very YOUNG defensive backfield. Nonetheless, that D-unit IMPROVED immensely as the season progressed. Otherwise, the Cards would've NEVER went undefeated. Eh.

Too bad the screwball muschamp, and SOME of his assistants, terribly, FAILED to improve the ENTIRE defense as the season moved forward in '12.

Damyum y'all Gator in-denial goons. Why do y'all believe Floriduh’s defense finished RANKED No.118 in the entire nation.

Again, that's No.118 in all of major college football!

Oh, one more solid-on-down factoid. The Gators absolutely DON'T have no Manny Teo on the D-unit this season.

Here's looking a 4-8 Gators in 2013!

And seriously y'all Gator bUbba's. It's a bloody crying shame that Jeffy Driskel and the O-unit don't have NO BACKUP, again, this season. A crying shame of a tragedy.

Otherwise, IF Florida DID NOT have one screwball Muschamp. I could easily SEE-r a possible 5-5, type of campaign.

Bon jour et Bonsoir

Once again, the refs help Duke to a victory.

D, Notre Dame had a crappy offense, so that kind of makes it a moot point. Miamis offense next season might b the best in Hurricane history if you keep refernecing last year. Morris beat Kosars record, Duke beat portis's freshman rb record, WR's are deep and now have #2 and #3 on espns wr list and got the Juco #1 TE and espn 150 TE to add another element to Morris's passing game.

We played 3rd string LB's, top DT's were out leading to Double teaming chick, and we played mainly freshman in the D backfield. Yes, that leads to a bad season. With 8-9 DT's , a ton of loaded DE's, loaded LB depth, and a great dbackfield, this should be a totally new d......

The offense might be one of the best ever in U history

FSU and Florida have something coming to them this year!
Both lost a lot of guys. Florida doesn't play good at the beginning of the year, my routes them. Then FSU, new qb, same old FSU, oh I forgot we got Coley doesn't we know all Dumbo's play calls and what he likes to do in situations. Now get off the cane board!

WE get UF breaking in a new team(Lost 30 or so kids), at home in week 2 with our entire team back included a loaded offense and the new studs coming in august. I like our chances in that game. Fsu lost a ton on d, new qb, and lost 6 coaches/CO_ordinators also...

Well hate to see a loss but the encouraging thing is the young men on the basketball team did not quit and actually had a couple of opportunities to actually steal this one by not giving up and playing hard. Coach Larranaga has done a great job with these young men and given our basketball team an identity and maturity. Cameron is one of the toughest places to win at, and these boys showed everybody today that the Canes are for real. Once again great job guys even in a losing effort.

Nice report, Susan. Excited about this season!

Tough loss to Duke. Without Kelly being unconscious, we could have won that game. But we had our shot at the end, just couldn't hit the three to force OT.

Let's win the last 2 games to be OUTRIGHT ACC CHAMPS!Let's fill the BUC and show our support for these guys! They are a tough team with a lot of heart!

A note on announcers: Vitale ought to hang it up. The guy must have needed several drool bibs because of his incessant raving about Duke. Kelly will surely be canonized by the new Pope very soon. When UM beat them by 27, it was again all about Duke losing.

To hear him and the other doofus tell it, UM is only winning because our team is old!

The age chart please...

I wish these TV guys would STFU and just announce the game. Most of the blabber from TV types these days has nothing to do with what is happening on the floor.
Vitale becomes the story, not the two teams that battled it out tonight.

Ebay item: Dick Vitale's dozen drool bibs from the DUKE - miami clash...MAKE OFFER, BABY!.

Go Canes!

golden has done nothing.....the whole offense is totally randy shannons....golden hasn't developed any of the other QB's....this offense is nowhere near the offenses of Erickson or Johnson.....those teams had the best vertical passing game that coley wants to get back to.....

again discipline issues are the norm with golden.....Johnson and scott..I am thankful that randy Shannon got UM morris and duke Johnson....

coley is not going to wait on the sidelines too long going with jedds offense....I will not get excited about our offense until I see how it try's to transition to coley's schemes....that can be a real problem...well have to see

coleys offense in 2012 was better than jedds:
#19 fsu - 6601 @ 477.54 per game and 68 TD's..12-2
#37 UM - 5282 @ 440.17 per game and 45 TD's...7-5

the WR position is still a big question mark.....there is no vertical passing game and it shows in the stats:
depth means nothing..performance is what counts:

#2 WR - soph marquise lee (socal) 1721 yards with 14 TD's @ 132.38 yd. per game
vs.
#71 WR - soph phillip dorsett 842 yards with 4 TD's @ 70.17 yd. per game.....give me a break....extremely weak at WR position.

Dom is an idiot....has no idea what he talks about....

al golden will always be a mediocre coach...he is 40-45 with an average loss of 6.4 games per year at 7 yrs......bobby Bowden was a coach for 50 yrs and lost 129 games...his average loss per year is 2.5.......golden has been a coach for only 7 years and he already has 38% racked up in losses compared to Bowden and he still has 43 yrs to go.....the guy is a 5/7 loss per year coach...that is his statistical makeup.....this why a change has to be made....UM will never get to the show with him...NEVER

dukes win tonight means nothing....its all about the seating and UM will get to at least elite 8....everyone is losing so not that big of deal....

much better 3 point shooting and free throw line....that's what I was looking for tonight

SEPTEMBER 07th 2013

The Cane’s Reggie Johnson had a nightmare game tonight that in no way reflects his true talent and conversely Duke’s Ryan Kelly played out of his mind posting a career game. Both of those examples are anomalies and despite the tough loss the Canes had to come away from that game feeling very good about their prospects going forward.

Duke enjoyed home cooking regarding the officiating, but that comes with the territory, much like when playing Notre Dame in football at their place.

The Dave O'Brien/Dick Vitale broadcast team was fingernails on a chalkboard. Vitale’s endless blubbering about Duke is understandable, but O’Brien’s biased act is just another example of the countless ESPN Miami haters.

As most all of the basketball experts agreed after the game—Miami has a very special team and on a neutral court they can beat any team in the country.

The next number of weeks should be a lot of fun for Canes Basketball fans.

It is being "rumored" that LSU’s Les Miles may be fired due to an inappropriate relationship with a co-ed.

DOM I'M IN AGREEMENT WITH YOU MAN IF THIS TEAM COME TOGETHER AND IMPROVE GREATLY ON DEFENSE THEY CAN GO UNDEFEATED. AND AS FAR AS THE OFFENSE BEING VERTICAL PASSING? WELL A LOT OF THAT WAS TAKEN AWAY DUE TO DUKE RUNNING 50-60 YARD TOUCHDOWNS,BREAKING IN NEW RECEIVERS AS STARTERS AND MORRIS 1ST FULL YEAR AS A STARTER. NOW THAT IS ALL OVER WITH AND COACH COLEY WILL THROW THE BALL DEEP DOWN THE FIELD! HE ALREADY UNDERSTANDS THAT IF THIS OFFENSE BECOMES MORE VERTICAL DOWN THE FIELD IN THE PASSING GAME DUKE MAY RUSH FOR 1500 YARDS EASY, AND MORRIS WILL THROW 35 TOUCHDOWNS!! I THINK EVEN SOME OF THOSE GOALS CAN BE EXCEEDED WITH THE SCHEDULE WE PLAY!! BUT THE QUESTION STILL REMAINS DEFENSE MAN! THE DL HAS DEPTH BUT THEY MUST CREATE SACKS (40)AND THE SECONDARY NEEDS MORE INTS(25) AND KEEP PORTER HEALTHY AND GET PIERRE TO START DOMINATING MORE AND YES THIS TEAM CAN AND WILL BE UNDEFEATED ACC CHAMPS!! BCS BOWL(ORANGE) WINNER'S! THE COACHING STAFF MUST HAVE THESE GUYS READY TO PLAY EVERY GAME ESPECIALLY ON THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THIS NCAA CRAP THE CANES WILL NOT GET THE BENEFIT OF THE CALLS!! THE MORE THEY WIN THE WORST IT WILL GET! THE NCAA CANNOT AFFORD THE CANES TO GO UNDEFEATED WITH THE WAY THEY HAVE SCREWED UP THIS INVESTIGATION! WHEN THE U WINS IT'S GREAT FOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL BECAUSE THEY ARE AMERICA'S MOST HATED COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM. JUST ASK ESPN!! GO CANES! 2013 ACC CHAMPS

gallo, you see cristobal got here and now you look and asante is down to 258lbs, down from 270 last year, plus this scott guy understands that too, tha's one of the main reasons you knew percy pringle a.k.a. brennan carrol along with coach goldie didn't know wha they were doing in regards to weight managaement with the tight-ends. Having dyron and asante at 270 plus is incompetent coaching, at least that's what i need to start seeing, the weight management get in check.

This same thing needs to happen to 3g, we'll see though, but chick at the weight he's at now, it will not make him and explosive defensive end. Also, these coaches are not trying to bring eddie jonhson back if they've moved tyriq to the outside, which is outside is the question. Who cares about this black jersey crap, i don't myself at the same time, whatever works. Not allowing eddie johnson to go thru U-tough is a joke too as well.

Anyway, ej44 will be alright one way or another, like i said earlier, if the situation between eddie johnson is what it is, than use the resources around you at your disposal, let eddie johnson sit down with guys like irvin, ray lewis will be around the team, alot of guys who can reach eddie johnson on a level goldie can't. The discipline tatics on this team need to be refined, it's not a reason we're 7 & 5 either.

gallo, i don't want to see it happen myself, let's just keep smo17 healthy this year, shannon got blamed from these idiots as they claim for "not having a back-up qb ready to go when jacory got hurt" which is one of the dumbest things i've read, he came in with the worst qb situation at UM since costa was the qb here, shannon is the one who actually upgraded the qb position at UM and as it stands right now shannon brought in 2 capable starters at qb in jacory and marve, but all people want to do is blame shannon for marve leaving when it's obvious marve wanted to be the starter instead of competing and rolled out which i think was not a bad decision for him because he wasn't going to beat out jacory anyway.

They have to have sense before you can talk any into them. ;-)

Randy turned out to be lazy and vindictive. He set the program back more than Larry Coker. If he wasn't my friend I would be more descriptive. Calvin you can right and make up whatever you want but it's basically historical in relationship to the facts. We are closer to the local high schools at any time since the JJ time. Your skied and possibly racist view not withstanding.

With 9 true freshmen contributing heavily on defense? You guys really have no clue when it comes to scheming a D, huh?

BCS, 10-2 record with 9 true freshmen. Freaking goooooooood luck with that.

Bama played 2 just to give you an idea and had 6 or 7 seniors on D. We had 2, VT and BMcGee.

Please do not give RS credit for Duke Johnson. Duke would have been here even if we were coachless. Oh wait. He did.

I think we lost Eddie Johnson....to still be disciplined at this point and to start the new season like this is outrageous. There is no way he comes around at this point...I would say he HATES golden now....he is going to transfer, you'll see. Lets see what they do with his scholarship.....I would make UM pull it after the Kirkland fiasco....then transfer to another team. I am sure he can get another scholarship somewhere else.
Take Morris out of the picture and the QG situation is dire.....without him (injury) UM gets killed....but wait...Shannon should get a renewal check, lol.

Marve would've been a better qb than Jacory he just wasn't given a chance. Shannon completely mismanaged that situation and stuck us with Jacory. Thankfully, Whipple got us Stephen Morris.

sorry.....Shannon recruited morris and duke (whipple had nothing to do with any of those guys)....jacory was the best QB UM had at the time...marve was a disaster..totally

duke Johnson recruited on 9/20/2010
Stephen morris recruited on 8/3/2009

Whipple found Morris and asked Shannon to bring him in. Shannon probably took his head out of the sand on that date.

Calvin is the dumbest mofo on this bloig- Dude- you lost all of your cred a century ago. WHY YOU STILL EVEN TALKING FOOTBALL HERE? JACORRY IS THE WORST QB IN THE HISTORY OF MIAMI. JUST LOOK AT ALL OF THE GAMES HE LOST BY THROWING INTS. lOOK AT THE BIG TIME GAMES ( WITH ABOUT 3 EXCEPTIONS IN 4 YEARS THAT HE SINGLE HANDEDLY LOST BY TRUNING THE BALL OVER. look at all of the bowls he lost. ) I MEAN, EVERY TIME HE THREW THE BALL MY SPHINCTERS TIGHTENED!. Randy Shannon started up with that garbage QB shuffle bc he couldnbt make up his mind and bc he had flat out promised the Harris family that Jacorry would start as a freshman. Thank God he didnt start him against Florida. He would have thrown 6 picks. That was his word for J12- a fake a55 5-star, fake a55 Fl Mr Football to come to Miami. Yeah great recruiting.

Yesterday was the worst one day in UM sports in 3 months. Hope the UMbaseball team wins the series with Florida today. UM basketball needs to regroup and win the next two to clinch at least teh ACC-co championship. Who would have thought that Miami basketball would win the ACC ch. before UM football??? With Duke and Carolina, and Maryland and UVA? NEVER>

Shannon had nothing to do with recruiting Duke Johnson, since he was a kid Duke was always coming to Miami.

How dumb can you possibly be?

Marve didn't really play so not sure why he was a disaster. Jacory must've approached the world record for picks. I can still remembercwatching the usf game and waiting for jacory to blow the game.

Larkin = ACC MVP

Kelly had a once in a life time performance and Reggie had a sub par day, and we were still in the game till the final second. Can't wait till tourney time.

canejunkie: your an idiot like 98% here.....jacory was recruited directly out of northwestern by Shannon....marve was a disaster because of all the hype being Mr. football. Then he gets in an accident right before the season....then he transferred out of UM.....jacory was always shannons guy...whipple was long gone....please....

duke was not just coming to UM....he has to be recruited to get a scholarship....Shannon found duke....golden is a failure.....so keep trying to defend him...all the stats and history ALL show differently.....

UM will NEVER amount to anything under golden....so until he is gone....just assume I will be the lone voice for his departure.....

Marve admitted taking handouts from Nevin. He hated Randy for going with Jacory. He "...couldn't play for coach Shannon". I have no real proof but I believe Marve took those handouts on purpose and then worked with Nevin, who hated Coach Shannon for telling the players to stay away from him, to torpedo Miami. How is it UMs fault if a player colludes with a criminal booster to inflict sanctions as revenge for feeling that Randy Shannon was prejudiced against white people?

People also criticized shannon unjustly for rotating jacory and marve in their first year, but yet they want to blame shannon for not having a back-up ready, lol, idiots. Now who on here thinks we can win with ryan williams as the starter and crow and dewey have no game experience. crow & dewey are the main reasons qb's are being recruited even more, they're saying olsen is already better than crow & dewey as well.

gallo, you can tell who on here actually knows football and who doesn't. For someone to say shannon set the program back, lol is always comical and shows their stupidity. shannon wasn't the one handed a team full of fisrt round draft picks and on cruise control to win 2 national championships, he was handed a team with kyle & kirby as his options to be the starting qb's. Anybody that thinks jacory was a bad qb don't know football or what affect coaching has on a qb.

When mark nipple and his yahoo offensive mentality was brought in, that began the interceptions. Many people on here don't realize the offense nipple tried to run was based on the "air coryell" princicples of offense which even at the pro level resultes in all of his qb's having a high number of picks, than mike martz when he was the rams oc installed that same type of offense, while they made alot of explosive plays kurt warner still had a high number of picks, than he went to chicago and jay cutler's picks went way up.

So to try and run that system with a first time starting qb in his first year in that system you get what you got. Had jacory been under an oc like jedd fisch who actually understands qb's and offense, jacory was better than marve no matter what people try and come on here and say. jacory proved it when nix was the oc on the field. came in and bailed us out against at 2 or 3(maybe more) games the year marve was the clear cut starter.

For those who are trying to turn the marve/jacory situation into a racial conversation are Supreme idiots, but it is comical to see that being said. It's clear shannon upgraded & brought the talent level back up at UM, it's clear that shannon headcoached teams played way better defense than what we're seeing and have never seen at UM. It's clear that shannon as a first time headcoach, for goldie to only be 2 games better than shannon was in his 1st 2 years after being a headcoach somewhere else for 5 years is lacking the ability to put together a dominant team and a championship team.

It's also clear that goldie's mentality is not the right mindset right now for UM by him trying to get this team to feel like they accomplished winning the acc coastal side of the bracket is pathetic and not being real. You don't celebrate something that was handed to you by another teams demise that actually beat you on the field. If goldie was real he would've said to the team, "look, i know they say we're the coastal division champs, but we lost to unc, and that's not the way we do it here at Miami, so come next year, be prepared to go out their and win it the right way and that's out-right, nobody hands us anything, we go and take what rightfully belongs to us".

Marve had one decsecnt game against wake forest. Marve was more of a running qb because he wasnt very accurate. Shannon did botch that qb situation up by letting marve start against fla after he had been suspended against the first game of the year. Marve started the majority of the games that year and a couple of the games jacory had to come in and save the day. Fans talk about jacory throwing pick but so did marve. I was at the game on the cold night in the A where he was threw a pick six to Johnson and looked like some complete garbage.. If marve was so good why didnt he do anything at Purdue? A good qb is a good qb regardless of what school he goes to.

You're flat out wrong, Duke Johnson would have come to Miami no matter who the coach was, any Hurricanes fan who followed his recruiting knows that.

But you can't admit you're wrong because you're a person of very low intelligence and character.

Randy Shannon was a terrible head coach, that's why he's never going to get another head coaching job in his life. He had to be fired, he was killing UM, we were getting blown out by bad teams multiple times a year.

You're the one with no defense, Al Golden is a clear upgrade from Randy Shannon.

Would've set the right tone, instead he's trying to make it seem like he did something that hasn't been done before, i'm embarassed for the team for having somebody do that. goldie just needs to update his outlook and recognize what school he's at. People keep saying shannon was vindictive and this and that, but at least you didn't see shannon kicking players off the team at a premium like goldie is doing and who seems more to the vindictive side, when a player like sam shields was in the shannon doghouse, he became a better player and now is excelling in the nfl, when players get in the goldie doghouse, the hand writing is on the wall that they 99% of the time won't be back, in fact, they normally don't make it to the doghouse they just get kicked off the team.

He/goldie says he's praying for eddie johnson, lol, come on man, cut that out. Had he not tried to sell this team off as being the coastal division champs i might've believed em, but to many times i keep smelling fraud traits in the air with this guy. First press cpnference to the alumni
"Please comeback and be apart of this program" just didn't sound right, next "We'll love our players" i mean are you sure you will, what coach goes out of their way to point that out.
Biggest fraud screen "i challenge anybody, when you looks at oach OH-NO's track record, he's one of the best out their" if he meant one of the best at being bad 117th, ok, you right.

I'll stop their, are we going to really travel down this path when this guy hasn't won a championship nowhere on his resume and trying to set the litmus test by pointing out a guy like Muhammad wilkerson is not it. Anybody heard from him while he's been in the nfl. Their is only one standard goldie should be pointing to and his has plenty of them to point the players towards, we don't want to here about your temple or Virginia coached players, means nothing here.

This has more of a sound ring to it, i'm not sure how the white part gets involved whe nit comes to marve though, but the collusion part is on point. This man needs to post more often!

Garbage whipple was also the qb coach for mcnabb and Big Ben and it is well documented that he taught the qb to throw to an area of the field even if the wr is covered. He never changed that play or the personnel 27picks in two years on the same play. That play worked twice against fsu and this idiot kept running it even thought all the teams we played set up their defense to stop that play.

Once again, this man knows what he's talking about, good to see another real poster on here. Agreed on shannon not starting jacory that game, but i understood it, plus he had already given his word and stuck with it about marve being the starter, but it was clear jacory's talent level but more importantly his football mind was way above marv'es and patrick nix, it was evident when jacory came in and we were at our own 1 yard line and that man checked/audibled off and threw that slant pass to kayne farq on the money that j70 had more balls than the oc an understood nix's offense way better than marve.

after jacory did that, nix(doo-dooed in his draws) came back and ran the ball about 3 straight times instead of letting j70 stay in attack mode.

These bozo's want to pass shannon off as not giving marve a chance when the man started basically every game in 2008 that he wasn't suspended in. I like how shannon suspended that man right before the opener, kept his word, let that man go thru spring training with a an honest effort and shannon basically said, "you thought i forgot" lol go sit down. People crying about the timing of it all, did it matter, he knew the rules just like the other players.

rofl, nipple is to offense what oach OH-NO is to our defense, okay, okay, even nipple wasn't this bad though! It's a crying shame though when we got a coordinator that makes mark nipple look like a quality coordinator. The biggest indictment to me of mark nipple though was even his own son didn't know how to run that offense, and i'm sure the playbook was laying around somewhere by the toilet and on the kitchen counter in their household and his own son looked like trash in it, come on, it was high time for him to go, no adjustments, just a brain-locked oc than worst of all, he had an attitude like the offenses failures were a result of the players not executing and not him.

When he never ran this offense nowhere, than i heard people saying jacory never threw to his check-downs, their were no check-downs in that offense, I REPEAT there were no check-downs in that offense, learn how to watch football people who said that!

Also those individuals who keep for some reason trying to compare goldie to jimmy johnson, don't disrespect jimmy johnson like that. goldie doesn't have nowhere near the confidence or heart that jimmy johnson had, once jimmy johnson got Baptized by JEROME BROWN on what was getting ready to happen to oklahoma, it excelled his confidence level that much more but jimmy was a fighter way before he got to Miami it was just a perfect match but after that, jimmy felt like any team he coached could beat anything team they went up against.

We were that dominant that it was being talked about in many circles of one day seeing if they could set up a scrimmage game to see if a college team could actually beat a pathetic nfl team. You don't hear them saying that about no other college teams like they said it during our time.

In the mean time, goldie's over here not sure if he can beat duke, let alone k st. or notre shame and has been hell bent on softening up the schedule, does that sound or seem like a move of a True championship coach to anybody on here.
